“in three, two, one, happy birthday, y/n!” your best friend, haechan announces aloud for everyone in your apartment complex to hear at 12 in the morning.

“come on! make a wish before the candles blow out!” winter, your cousin, urges you with a big smile on her face.

having just finished your night time routine and prepared yourself for a night's worth of sleep, you were rather shocked to see them with one of those trendy bento cakes and rainbow colored party hats adorning their heads.

despite your confusion, you walk up towards them with a grateful smile resting upon your lips. “seriously, when did you guys plan this?”

“oh, it was all my- ow, hey!” haechan gets cut off midway through his statement because of a nudge from winter’s elbow.

“what he was trying to say was it was all my doing. you’re welcome bubs!” your cousin beams, eyes creasing into crescents. “though i’d wish you’d hurry up. this cake isn’t holding itself up for you, y’know?” she adds on rather playfully but you can tell she truly meant it.

gathering a deep breath, you blow out the candles and cheers erupt from the people you deem closest to you. winter then sets down the cake on your coffee table in relief as your best friend slings his arm over your shoulder.

“sooo y/n, got anything planned for the year? a small resolution or something like that, i don’t know.” he rambles off, suggesting the idea of having a goal to work towards now that you were deemed an adult (though, haechan kept referring to this as the year that marks your jail-ability era).

you feel a little tingly from his touch, even when you know the two of you are just friends and nothing more. what you’re feeling is probably just a phase. it’ll go away.

“i’m not really sure, got any ideas for me?” you ask the two instead, eyeing them both in a back and forth motion.

“we can always work on that dating experience of yours- last i remember, it was up to the high number count of… zero.” your cousin chips in from the side as she slices the cake for the three of you to share, her tone sarcastic while she teases you.

it’s true, you didn’t have a lot (re: any) of experience in the dating sector, but perhaps that could change starting this year. “that… might not be such a bad idea.”

haechan’s interest seems to have been piqued — he’s making that look. that specific expression where the corners of his lips turn upwards, a brow raised, and that glint in his eye. oh, you know it all too well.

“come on.” you urge the boy. “start sharing your idea. i can practically see your mind ready to explode.”

“well, since you’ve asked me ever so kindly. how ‘bout a bet?” he starts, taking a few steps towards you with that cocky expression of his. “i bet you 10 dollars to kiss someone in two months. not that hard, right?”

“what- you want me to kiss some random person for 10 bucks?” you gawk out in surprise.

he only shakes his head, “i never said it needed to be a stranger. just, someone in general.”

you processed the idea thoroughly, running all sorts of possible scenarios in your head. wouldn’t it be much easier to kiss… haechan himself? that just seemed like the most plausible approach for you.

he wasn't a stranger — the furthest from one. you were comfortable with him. the kiss didn’t have to mean anything (though it might mean a tiny bit more to you), and in addition, you’d be making some cash.

everything seemed to check out. the only problem was that you had to ask him to kiss you. still, surely this was better than any other alternative, right?

“i’ll do it but… can’t i just kiss you and get it over with?” you finally voice out your thoughts, pretending to make your question sound playful in case the request backfires on you.

“you’re my best friend, that’s a little odd, don’t you think so?” haechan replies in the same tone, lightly ruffling your hair before going over to retrieve a slice of cake from winter.

ouch. way to have your first bit of “dating experience” be your best friend… friend zoning you. what a lovely start to your 18th birthday.

D-13.

a few days had passed since the bet you made with haechan had been established, but not one ounce of progress had been made.

to be fair, how were you supposed to kiss someone else when all you’ve ever wanted was for that kiss to be with your best friend? that’s tough luck.

you attending classes today doesn’t really help with your thoughts either, especially when both haechan and winter had been asking about said progress one after the other.

you’d be lying if they weren’t starting to give you a headache.

as if on cue, winter approaches you, some lecture books in hand and her bag slung on her shoulder. “y/n! how’s your progress?” here we go again.

“just as i told you yesterday, nothing yet.” you reply with a small sigh.

winter senses the frustration behind your words, encouraging her to suggest ideas to help you. “how about finding someone you like? it might make it easier for you know… to kiss them.”

“i don’t think that’s still a good- actually, you might just be onto something, minjeong.” your gears start to churn in your mind. in order to wash haechan off your mind, you might as well find someone else and maybe get an actual relationship out of it.

the idea was just perfect for you.

“have i ever told you how much i love you? i gotta go but i’ll see you after class, winter!” you excitedly bid her a goodbye, rushing to your classroom so you could better plan out your new gameplan.

though the most ideal situation was long gone, you now had a back up plan and you weren’t going to back down so easily from the bet.

you were now busily scribbling on your notepad, forgetting that a new student was to transfer into your class today. the teacher calls upon your attention and as you look up, your eyes land on a boy with great resemblance to a cute bunny.

apparently he’s the new transfer student.

the teacher gives him a moment to introduce himself. “hello everyone, my name is na jaemin. i hope we all get along!” so that’s his name, you thought to yourself.

surprisingly, he was told to take the seat in front of yours, offering you a small smile and a curt wave, one that you gladly return, before he takes his seat.

actually, maybe you really could forget haechan for just a teensy bit.

a week goes by without haechan seeing you once. an entire week. was he always this eager to see you? to bask in the warm sight that is you? he thinks he must be going crazy.

the only time he ever gets updates about you is through winter which aren’t much to go on. he does remember a key detail she mentioned previously about how you’ve been spending time with that new student, jaemin.

what was so special about him anyways? well, he was surely going to find out soon.

as the bell rings to signal the start of recess, he dashes out of his classroom, taking big steps towards yours.

there, haechan finds you in his seat and he’s about to approach you until he sees you’re in the middle of a conversation with the one and only, na jaemin.

“this is how you do this, right?” jaemin asks you, directing your sight to a piece of paper that has a bunch of math formulas written on it.

“yeah! i’m surprised you got that rather quickly.” you compliment the boy in front of you with a small laugh.

your thoughts on jaemin have changed drastically since the first time you met him. he’s a sweet boy, someone you could never take advantage of. it just felt wrong to you so you just dropped your entire plan as a whole.

it was alright to lose the bet. at least you kind of made a new friend out of it, right? you smile to yourself at that thought.

to haechan, however, your smile is so bright in jaemin’s presence, it’s practically blinding everyone in sight. have you ever smiled at him like that? wait- why does that matter?

he doesn’t like you, no way.

you’re best friends, yeah. his love for you is as platonic as can be — at least that’s what he tells himself.

for someone as bold as haechan, he can’t seem to find the confidence in him to walk towards your table and steal your attention. instead, he steps out of the classroom, unnoticed by you.

D-5.

“JAEMIN DID WHAT!?” haechan yells into his phone, winter being on the receiving end of the call.

the girl tuts, “scream one more time and i’m hanging up on you. and yes, i heard he confessed to y/n. i don’t think she gave him an answer though.”

“sorry, look, i was just really surprised.” a deep sigh comes out from haechan before the call goes silent. he takes the time to process the situation, but the idea of you and jaemin being together just rubs him off the wrong way.

“doesn’t she see how bad he is for her?” he finally reasons out.

“uhuh, in what sense exactly?” winter retorts.

“he’s probably just using her to gain attention or something! can’t i look out for my own best friend?” the response is laughable, even to haechan, but he goes along with it.

winter laughs into the call, “are you even hearing yourself? that’s pretty baseless, even for you haechan.” she replies shortly afterwards. “seems to me like you’re jealous.”

“are you hearing yourself, winter? no i’m not! get your head screwed on properly!” haechan answers back in the same incredulous manner as she did to him just a few seconds ago. “who would i even be jealous of?”

“jaemin. who else? i think it’s pretty clear to most. you aren’t that great at managing your feelings, y’know-” the girl’s voice cuts off for a second, “-oh, i’m being called to dinner now but seriously, get yourself together haechan. i know you like my cousin. bye!”

the line goes beep and haechan tosses his phone onto his bed. she really did just leave him hanging like that. how could she after bringing that idea up?!

jealous? not a chance. haechan never gets jealous.

D-4.

haechan wakes up the next day feeling tired, having not slept a wink after winter’s words kept replaying in his head.

i know you like my cousin.

you like my cousin.

you like her.

and these same words follow him as he makes it all the way to school. perhaps seeing you in school would help him understand his feelings better.

he really just wants this to be over with.

with trudged steps, he makes his way to your classroom and luckily enough for him, there you were already in class before the first bell rang.

he blames it on the lack of sleep but you look so ethereal sitting down in your chair as you bop your head lightly to the music that’s presumably playing on your earphones.

the sight is something to behold- that is until he pivots his head ever so slightly and sees jaemin accompanying you. god, why does he have to be there.

so maybe haechan does get jealous. sometimes.

maybe that’s why he acts without thinking, swiftly dragging you from your chair and out to the school courtyard despite your protests.

“hyuck let me go-” you grumble, tugging on your arm but he doesn’t budge one bit. it’s only when you reach a bench in the furthest part of the courtyard he decides to get go of your wrist.

“seriously, what is wrong with you?” you scoff out in disbelief. “this is the first time we’ve spoken in days. i think you could’ve just asked me if you really wanted to talk.” with the addition of those words, haechan finally realizes what he’s done. he knows it was wrong but he isn’t going to back down from the argument that was brewing between you two.

“me? how about you? you’ve been so lovey dovey with mr. perfect all this time! don’t you have yourself to blame on why we haven’t seen each other in so long?” he spat out coldly.

your heart sinks, and yet, you can’t help but feel even more enraged. its true, you’re part of the reason for the lack of communication between you two. after all, communication is a two way system. but doesn’t that also mean he’s also to blame?

“i enjoy jaemin’s company a lot! is that so wrong?” you shoot back, biting your bottom lip before mumbling the latter part of your statement. “at least he isn’t as grumpy as the person standing in front of me.”

ouch.

the boy hears this and gets ticked off even more. maybe it really is the lack of sleep but he seriously can’t understand her reasoning anymore. instead, he assumes she’s just doing all of this for the bet.

“do you really want to win the bet so bad? if that’s what you want, just kiss me and be over with it. i’m literally letting you win. you can stop seeing jaemin now.”

and that’s when it hits you a little.

why is he bringing the bet up all of a sudden when you just want a genuine relationship with jaem- oh. he couldn’t possibly see you as someone like that right? he said it himself! he doesn’t like you and even denied your request to kiss him a few weeks ago.

but, if that were all true, what other explanation would there be to his actions?

he takes your silence as a no, prompting him to leave you in the courtyard all alone.

you couldn’t seem to understand him at all no matter how hard you tried.

as soon as you got home from classes that same day, you rushed yourself back home and into the comfort of your bed and pillows — treating them as if they were your closest confidants and cried while you shared your troubles.

it wasn’t productive on your end but it was much needed for you to at least think straight. you’d been bottling your contemplations all day long after all.

here you are laying lifeless on your bed, using all your braincells to dicern what the fuck happened earlier this morning.

you know haechan doesn’t like you. you’ve said it to yourself so many times now.

maybe he’s just jealous you’ve been spending more time with jaemin because, although you have different intentions before, you realized you couldn’t see him in that way nor had the heart to just use him for your own gain.

haechan was a different story though. you feel flushed just thinking about him, knowing full well the both of you are in the middle of an argument between each other.

remembrance of the frustration hits, making you groan at the thought of having to remedy it. if you and haechan had anything in common, it would be the stubbornness you both share.

the last time you both got into an argument this big was back in junior high. neither of you spoke to the other for an entire month. it got so bad that both your parents had to call each other up to devise a way to get an apology out from the both of you.

though it would make the entire situation much easier, your parents no longer delve into these types of problems — and neither do haechan’s. you’re both all alone to fix this one yourselves and you wish you’d been more grateful to your parents for mending your relationship with haechan.

deep down, you already know the both of you will struggle to find the right timing, but you certainly hope that day would come soon. you didn’t exactly like being away from him either (even if he made you feel like shit for the rest of the day).

you decide to sleep off your worries for the night, hoping and praying that tomorrow would be a better day for you.

D-3.

tomorrow is not any better of a day.

jaemin and haechan both invited you to eat with them for lunch which quickly escalated into a light argument between the two. you couldn’t even bring yourself to butt into their conversation, seeing how they were fighting over something so silly.

“i’m her best friend, we do this pretty much everyday!” you hear haechan yell at jaemin, his frustration for the other getting the best of him. “plus, i need to talk with her. without you.”

“if the two of you are just best friends, then what gives you the right to dictate her answers?” jaemin fires back, keeping a calm and collected appearance throughout.

this shuts haechan up and the entire cafeteria goes dead silent. oh boy, did you want to curl up into a little hole. everyone was staring and you didn’t like that one bit.

nevertheless, you decided to be the bigger person — uttering a small apology to jaemin before walking off to the table you usually sat at with haechan — the latter following you a few steps behind.

neither of you speak as you begin to eat your separate meals, another sign the relationship between you two was starting to fade out into dust.

winter joins your lunch table shortly after witnessing the drama unfold, she looks at haechan with an unreadable expression and the boy stays quiet during the whole meal.

didn't he say he wanted to talk? an apology for the day before would have been nice.

you get fed up by the silence, placing your food back on the tray before picking it up. you mutter a quiet “i can’t seem to understand you at all.” directed at hyuck before leaving and switching over to the table where jaemin and his friends are sitting.

it all happened too fast and haechan didn’t realize you were leaving until you already did. he really did want to talk but how was he supposed to do that after having that situation with jaemin?

he wanted to calm down first but you had other plans. you really left him in shambles this time.

winter can’t help but sigh at the ongoing conflict. she silently wishes she wasn’t involved this much if it was going to turn out like this.

D-2.

haechan knows he truly has to make it up to you (including a long overdue explanation of why he’s been acting weirdly the past few days) but doesn’t know how to do that. apologies never came easy to him. his mind couldn’t help but go blank everytime he tried thinking of a way to approach you without making things more complicated than they already are.

the sheer amount of times he’s hit a brick wall has him calling the only person who probably knows more about you than he, himself, does.

he picks up his phone, searching through his contacts before landing on a single person, now waiting for the phone to ring.

“hello?” winter’s voice reaches him through the call. “i knew you’d call after what happened at the cafeteria.”

it takes a moment for haechan to answer, “maybe if jaemin wasn’t so aggressive–”

“you both were. now spill, have you gotten your feelings sorted yet?” the girl pushes his dramatics aside, getting straight to the point.

“i… think i do. you were right all along.” haechan finishes. although it was hard for him to admit at first, now that he’s actually said it out loud, it might be the first time he’s been feeling a sense of clarity after so long.

winter hums at his confession. “at least you’re finally taking a step in the right direction. now, to win her back…” she smiles to herself, already having a plan in mind.

you, on the other hand, have been seeing haechan and winter together often for the past week. naturally, your mind begins to wonder if your own cousin is the reason why haechan rejected you way back during your small birthday celebration.

the evidence matches up pretty well — he probably couldn’t reject you directly because she was in the room with the two of you that day. he isn’t spending as much time with you anymore because he’s spending time with her.

they look good together.

those words linger in your head more than you’d like to admit.

you feel cast aside by the people you’ve known practically your entire life but you don’t have much of a choice but to return to jaemin’s company. after all, you chose to eat the rest of your lunch at his table instead of the one that brought familiarity to you.

D-DAY.

day after day, the two of you just seemed to grow even more distant and you wondered if the end of your long-term friendship was nigh approaching. you barely saw him roaming through the halls of campus anymore, much less your cousin.

you didn’t dislike the new friend group you had (jaemin introducing you to his friends after you finally told him about your situation with haechan, but you couldn’t help but feel… dissatisfied with your current situation.)

as your class ends, you prepare yourself for another silent walk home. despite having those new friends, you felt lonelier than you ever had. you missed them. you missed him. and yet, life seemed to have other plans for you.

even trudging down these halls filled with other students made you lonely.

truthfully, you would do anything to have them back- a pain to your forehead snaps you out of your thoughts. you had bumped into someone. well, not just someone, but the person you’ve been longing for the most.

haechan. he was right in front of you after who knows how long it’s been.

you felt like crying on the spot but held in your emotions to appear like your life was anything but lost. haechan knew that look on your face, presuming you haven’t been well ever since the two of you have spoken. he takes your hands that have slumped to your sides into his, and the small gesture reminded you of the warmth he’d bring into your life.

“are you up for a short conversation perhaps?” you only nod and he takes that as a signal in the right direction, though, he isn’t used to you acting around him like this. oh boy, this was going to be more than a short conversation.

haechan leads you into the gymnasium and the two of you sit down by the bleachers with no sight of other students in the area.

“before you get mad- i wanted to apologize first. i shouldn’t have acted the way i did. i was childish.” he begins, holding eye contact with you to show his sincerity. “frankly, i was jealous. jealous you spent more time with jaemin, and you seemed to enjoy you time with him more than the times we hang out together. i shouldn’t have made you feel sad in any way, but i did and that’s completely my fault. i’m sorry.” you know his words hold both his feelings and the truth.

he wasn’t going to lie to you. he never once did during the time you knew each other.

however, what he admitted to had you flustered.

he was jealous of you and jaemin? it was a little hard to believe until you remembered the latter confessed to you the past week. oh god, did word of that spread out? nevermind that, what happened between you and jaemin was the least of your worries, the boy in front of you was. what if haechan got the wrong idea from the rumors?

“it’s not completely your fault. we both were pretty stubborn.” you reply, a soft chuckle leaving your lips to ease the tension between you two. “and if… if you’re curious, i never returned jaemin’s feelings back.

haechan gets pretty taken aback by your statement, now wondering why you brought it up. “oh… i know.”

“you knew? did winter tell you?” you question in anticipation. “i guess the both of you are pretty close now.”

“she did but i swear our friendship is nothing like that!” it was his turn to get flustered. “she could never replace your spot in my life.”

“i’m a little confused though after all of this…” you gesture out, referring to the situation that has just recently moved past you two. “what spot do i even have?”

he pauses, taking his time to think of the right words he wants to tell you but they all get stuck in his throat. the expression on your face showed how you took his silence negatively, prompting him to speak. “i like you. i couldn’t admit it even to myself for the longest time and-” having enough of his rambling, you inch a little closer and give him a kiss on the lips.

it’s brief, and yet, it continues to linger on his lips. “you kissed me.”

“why do you think i never gave jaemin an answer to jaemin’s confession?”

“so you were really saving it for me? i’m honored.” he chuckles out, playfully holding his hand to his chest.

“well, you should be.” you add on with the same bright smile he’s seen you flash at jaemin, except this time, it was absolutely for him.

“i guess that also means you won the bet?” he recalls, a brow raising at you.

you give him a light nudge on his shoulder while suppressing a giggle, “oh, shut up and just kiss me. you owe me 10 bucks by the way.”

a/n: hi anon! i decided to use what you suggested, hopefully your okay with that and how i wrote the story :) and honestly just writing this i'm getting more and more excited for their actual debut hehe <3

also i had so much fun writing this especially the interview part lol. this is the first time i've ever finished writing someone in one sitting!! i was so into this <3

being an idol was something you always wanted to become after seeing celebrities on tv sing and dance. you were luckily to be accepted as a trainee in a company and trained for a good 2 years before officially making your debut as the lead vocalist. you were very loved by your fans for being both talented and having a warm personality.

right after you debuted, your first music show appearance would be on music bank. your group was one of two groups chosen to be interviewed by the mc's eunchae and chaemin. needless to say that you were thrilled.

when your group members were all done getting ready with their styling, you were then escorted to the room where your interview was going to be held. that is where you met zerobaseone, the group who was joining you for that particular interview.

one of the boys signalled for the other members to be prepared to introduce themselves. "1, 2...d1, be the one! hello, we are zerobaseone!" they all exclaimed then bowed afterwards.

your group followed by your own introduction and the moment you looked up from bowing, you made eye contact with the guy standing in the centre. you had no idea what his name was or who he even was but you felt your heart start beating.

"we recently debuted with the album youth in the shade, we hope you have lots of interest in it!" the boy in the centre said. you nodded and thanked them as they handed their album to you that was signed.

your manager took the album aside and you did the same exchange with them by handing them your debut album. that's when you were called for the interview and you all stood there, excited but nervous at being able to promote your group on tv.

as they counted down from ten, the interview began and eunchae began speaking. "chaemin! did you hear? there's two new groups in town who are making a big splash in the hot month of july!"

chaemin then nodded, "of course! their hot debut is definitely a hit, let's meet them! welcome, zerobaseone and (group name)!"

once again your group introduced themselves to the viewers and zerobaseone did the same. the cheers you both received were such a indescribable feeling, seeing all the fans with banners and lightsticks really made it seem like your dream came true.

afterwards the interview went excellent! your leader took over most of the talking and you all made a great impression. but even throughout the interview, you couldn't stop thinking of the boy standing in the centre. he shined so bright even with his other eight members surrounding him.

your group headed back to your waiting room and you were the last member trailing behind everyone. but just as you were about to head in, you felt a presence linger behind you.

"um, excuse me?" you turned to see that boy you noticed from earlier behind you. his face looked so...perfect. like everything was sculpted to perfection. his downwards smile when you noticed him made your cheeks heat up. keep your calm (name)!

"oh! hello!" you bowed. he did the same and did the honours of introducing himself first, "my name is zhang hao! i'm the centre of zerobaseone. i just wanted to say that i really liked your debut song." oh so that's what his name was, zhang hao. it sounds pretty just like him.

"oh wow, thank you! my name is (name). i watched your debut as well and i was very impressed!"

he then shyly looked to his other member standing behind him before turning back to you, "is it okay if we can shoot a tiktok video together?" was this really happening?! the cute centre boy of his group asked you to film a tiktok with him?! you couldn't say no and followed him to the iconic pair of staircases that nearly every idol danced in front of for collabs at music bank.

"are you ready?" he smiled, his other member from before was filming it for him and before you knew it, the music began. you became fully immersed into the song as if it was your own debut and put your effort into making your cover good.

when the music finished, you once again bowed to him but it wasn't until that you were about to return to your waiting room that zhang hao stopped you once again.

"yes?" you asked. he seemed flustered but took his phone out and opened the contact app, "um, i want to get to know you better and get close. can we exchange numbers?"

his other member began chuckling to himself as zhang hao sent him a glare but retained his focus to you, once again showing his downward smile.

at first you were worried about the stacked july comeback lineup but now you were so thankful that you got to debut in the same month as him.

"of course! here, i'll put my name and number." he handed you his phone and you did exactly that.

"your name is (name)?" he said while staring at the contact, you nodded, "that's me!"

"thank you! i hope we can keep in touch!" he said while waving goodbye and heading back to his waiting room with his member who was filming the tiktok.

"me too! have a good day!" you responded. you went the opposite way and just then you heard his other member say something to him.

"hyung has a crush~" they said, zhang hao playfully nudged their shoulder.

"stop it!" you couldn't help but giggle. now you just had to wait for him to message you first, hopefully this encounter turns into more.

I told myself to just chill out and forget about it, but it's been weeks now and I can't get over how angry spy x family made me. Like on the surface, the premise is really funny and interesting. You have a spy, an assassin and a psychic who are all playing family and none of them know about each other's secret identity (except for the psychic kid). Hilarity ensues, whatever. And going into the story, I understood that the driving plot was Twilight's mission so there would be a lot of focus on that. But there are only three main characters, so I naively assumed that Yor and Anya would still have some stuff going on with them outside of the mission plot. Twilight and Yor both have secret identities and secret jobs, so you would think that would create conflict for them, like it's literally the most obvious plot option for the story and somehow that never happens??? There's not even anything about conflict of scheduling, like Twilight has a mission while Yor has an assassination job so they keep trying to get the other to take care of Anya. Or Yor assassinates someone who was really important for a mission Twilight was doing. I even hoped that there might be some side plots about Yor's job, and her needing to hide her family from her secret criminal activity or something, or like someone from Anya's past who was involved with the experiments on her coming back into her life for drama. Like these two characters have really interesting backgrounds going on with them, so one would assume that the story would take advantage of that. AND IT DOES FUCKING NOTHING!!!! Anya plays a really big role in the mission so I can understand maybe not doing as much about her past, but the way Yor gets sidelined literally makes the story bad. Her only role is to occasionally knock out one Twilight's enemies unknowingly and then worry about how she thinks she's a bad wife and mother. And it's just so annoying because I actually do think a story about a woman who never really saw herself getting married and having a child because she kills people for a living, but being forced into it to protect herself and her career from the authorities is really interesting and worth exploring! But we never actually see the assassin side of Yor, we never see her cruelty or the danger a career like that might be to a family. Instead, we only ever see Yor trying to be a good wife and mother, so we have no reason to believe any of the doubts she has about herself.

So I'm more than halfway through season 1, and Yor hasn't really had much focus in the story other than when her brother was introduced (still not really about her but...) and listen, I'm used to this, I've been in the shounen trenches, I know how this goes. I'm patient, I can wait for something good about Yor in the story because it has to be coming, there's no way someone would just waste all the potential of their story like this, right? All the potential is there, this shit can practically write itself. And then this episode starts with Yor coming home late unexpectedly, covered in cuts and in an awful mood, and I was like omg we're finally doing it, this is what I've been waiting for this whole time, she fucked up an assassination attempt and now this is gonna be about her trying to fix the problem. Well, turns out it was a fake out and she was actually secretly trying to learn how to cook because she felt like a bad mother and wife. I wanted to kill someone for real, I was so angry. It's sooo bad too, because it would've been kind of funny if we had been seeing Yor doing assassin stuff up until this point, and then the first time Twilight suspects she's doing something nefarious, she's just taking cooking classes.

And then for the rest of season 1, Yor's main conflict is that she starts thinking that Twilight should get together with his coworker because she's a bad wife and mother, but her reasons have nothing to do with the actual reason she might be a bad mother (she's an assassin)!!! Why did you do this to her!!!!! Like the story is so much more boring and worse because you didn't take advantage of the characters and narrative that you created Endo!! This thing had so much potential and the sexism ruined it so badly that I don't want to keep watching it

Apparently Yor gets some more focus in season 2 so maybe I'll give it a go but season 1 was so awful about her writing that I don't know if I can put myself through that. Whatever. Yor and Silvia, I love you and I could save you, I could write you so well, I know it

Hey! I see you're into fragile/higgs ship and caught myself quite like them too recently (tho i've been in DS fandom already for a year and mostly thought about them as a friends)

Just wondering why do you like them? Do you have any headcanons/interesting thoughts? I'm very curious 👀

Hi! First of all apologies for the wall of text you're about to get, but unfortunately you came knocking at my door after I spent nearly two months ruminating about this ship basically by myself sooo I'm dumping it all here

Well the short (lol) version is that in my first playthrough I mostly just absorbed the characters and storyline, but by the time I got to their final scene on the Beach I was like wait a minute... their whole shared storyline feels way too loaded for them to simply have been business associates, that shit is personal, even Higgs wanting to damage Fragile feels way too pointed to just be justified by "he was a turncloak with a secret agenda." Now, I'm not against a "they were simply close friends" interpretation, it works just as well to explain the emotional weight of their falling out, BUT I also cannot ignore the zest, the flavor, the spice of them actually having been involved romantically at some point. And honestly going into my second playthrough with the shipping goggles on I can't help thinking that Fragile speaks about Higgs like he was an ex that hurt her, and the way that she is suspiciously cagey about the specifics of their relationship makes my ears shoot up like a German shepherd.

On a Doylist level I also find it interesting that Kojima gave Higgs extra backstory that connects him to Fragile in the Director's Cut, and also how the behind the scenes for the DS2 mocap show Troy and Léa sharing a scene... I think Kojima is not done intertwining their story and we'll get more info in the sequel.

Now for the headcanons... I have enough that I might or might not be writing a long-ish fic about it, but I want to finish this Director's Cut playthrough before completing it (I could just look stuff up on the wiki but that's not fun). Also I have some art in the pipeline about it that I hope to post within the week. Anyway, the bite sized version of how I envision their relationship:

I hc Higgs as being immediately attracted to Fragile but not really acting on it, while she develops her attraction after getting to know him a little. Then she's down bad but she doesn't even realize it until it's so obvious it hits her in the face

A few people at their joint Fragile Express/whatever Higgs' operation was called co-op assume they are an item long before anything ever happens, because they just hang out together a lot. They have a similar penchant for corny jokes and puns and enjoy some light banter; Fragile finds Higgs' flair for theatrics endearing, while he is drawn to how gentle she is because he has known so little softness in his life (also he thinks she's insanely pretty, which duh. It's self evident because Léa Seydoux) (it's his first serious girl crush anyway; I hc him as bi and as having had mostly experiences with men before her)

They bond over their DOOMS condition and Higgs is fascinated by Fragile's powers, while she is less enthused by all the collateral effects. In my hc, at this point she has yet to become as skilled at traveling through dimensions as she is in the game, which makes her reluctant to agree to Higgs' requests to show him the Beach. This sows the seeds of his resentment towards her, because he feels she has a privilege she doesn't make use of and doesn't want to share.

They are both pretty touchy feely (canon!) so when their relationship goes from friendly to romantic it gets physical immediately and enthusiastically. Yes even accounting for the worldwide lowered sex drive. If there's one thing I never do is put characters in horny jail 🫡

 I think Fragile got to know a version of Higgs that was quite different from what we see in the game, which you sort of can gauge from the more optimistic pages of his diary. Like there's a part of him who's starved for love and connection and a sense of belonging and gravitates towards people like Coffin (he never had a mother) and Fragile herself; ironically, the pull towards Amelie answers to the same need but in reality it feeds on his more nihilistic, call-of-the-void side. I'm not saying that Amelie brainwashed him or anything, but I think she saw what was already there – a  deep seated resentment towards a hostile world and towards those he feels got handed a luckier deal than he did, that he countered by clinging to the notion of being special because of his DOOMS, but then there's someone like Fragile who's even more special and doesn't seem to be doing much with it. Amelie gave him a chance to fulfill what he felt was his potential and shared her power with him, but the tradeoff was severing  the connections he had, "killing" the part of him that wanted to be loved to make space for what he perceived as a higher form of love ("I found someone who completes me" which he says to Fragile specifically like he wants to rub it in her face? Like she wasn’t  enough to fulfill that role?)

That’s why I think it’s significant that he lost his hands with his power-up, because the (holding, welcoming) hands are strongly associated with Fragile; and to me it makes sense if he purposely ruins her body also because it’s a way to stifle his attraction to her. There’s also a lot of projection because HE is the one who’s felt like damaged goods all along, who grew up being  crushed psychologically and physically. I also think that both of them coming close to annihilating the other but choosing not to – leaving them in a dicey situation but not entirely without escape – shows in some twisted way that their bond still exists, which makes me giggle and rub my hands like a nasty little goblin knowing we have another game coming.

So… That’s the gist of it. Sorry for rambling on but as I said, I don’t really get the chance to talk about this ship much – greetings from rarepair hell, etc.

okay honestly i suck SOOO bad at headcanons because the characters i tend to develop them for are also the characters that are so deeply attached to my own brain that we end up kinda bleeding into each other. there are two different percy jacksons to me—the one i play with in his natural environment and view as a really compelling and interesting individual, and the one that has been inside my head so long he's molded into the shape of my skull. sometimes the line is blurry which is why a lot of my headcanons aren't actually backed up by anything in the canon. i do really like PR/Filipino!percy as is, but bpd!percy doesn't actually make sense (in my opinion) for the way he narrates in the first series. you could argue for it in heroes of olympus but i honestly like your bipolar!percy better and think it makes way more sense.

THAT BEING SAID. i refuse to believe that annabeth chase doesn't have bpd. the attachment issues, the constant fear of abandonment, the sudden mood shifts. it makes her bitterness toward rachel make more sense—percy is clearly her fp (favorite person) so of course she's scared of being ignored or replaced. she was probably panicking constantly throughout the last two books, thinking percy would completely cut contact with her if he got with rachel. it would also better explain her struggles with luke, and with morality as a whole. she seems to have trouble seeing situations and people as anything other as completely evil or completely good (in the first few books at least, she does get to work through this to some extent). her mother? perfect, a genius, always right about everything. her father? horrible, irredeemable, worst parent in the world. of course, this is a struggle for a lot of kids and teens (morality is hard and complicated!), but combined with everything else—and from personal experience—i think bpd works extremely well for annabeth.

as for PR/Filipino!percy, i just think it's neat :3 it could be either or both, but the idea of sally jackson being an immigrant or a child of immigrants makes for some really interesting ideas and goes well with the themes already present in the books. her being a first gen college student would be so cool and so sally, and her financial/familial success would feel even more vindicating. plus it's so tough for neurodivergent kids who are also poc. it would add another layer of bitterness to percy, and possibly another parallel to luke. i personally don't think the luke/percy dynamic is as good or interesting if luke is white and percy is poc, especially because to an extent, luke is RIGHT, and it's kind of uncomfortable to have the only white guy be the most revolutionary character (even if he goes about that revolution in the worst way possible). i was really excited when pjotv cast charlie bushnell as luke and i desperately hope they actually acknowledge that he isn't white (i'm not super optimistic but there's still plenty of time). because that's fucking important. he grew up in a place where he already felt unloved and betrayed by his father and ashamed of his mother, but it would make such a huge impact on his psyche and perspective if his community also alienated him. for context, the town luke canonically grew up in is like 97% white in real life. luke probably felt like he had to be better than everyone around him just to get the same amount of understanding and recognition and love as them. imagine how much harder his anger at the gods—at the world!—would hit. and then imagine if he had that in common with percy. imagine if they bonded over that anger when percy first got to camp (TLT musical, anyone?). and imagine, after luke has gone to kronos's side, percy looking at him and seeing the exhaustion and fear and resentment in his eyes and recognizing it. because that's what percy sees when he looks in the mirror.

AUGHHH. anyway.

those are some of the feelings i have about these headcanons. not sure if any of it makes sense but i'm not going to edit this massive block of text because just looking at it makes my head hurt 👍

did you anticipate there would be a celebration for Simeon´s or for most of them “Christopher Peugot´s” birthday in the TSL fandom? considering Levi is a part of it actually yes you did but that isn´t the point, buuuut that´s the perfection distraction you need for him not only would he like to see his fans and how they see his work but Luke asked you for a distraction so they can put the finishing touches on his surprise party

also it had the added bonus of both of you enjoying some nice peace and quiet in the Human World away from everybody else and you got to give him his present early it was a bunch of kisses <3… and he got a printed out, leather bound and 100% comprehensible dissection of his work because you are very normal about it, honestly it´s more like the ramblings of a madman but he could understand it so mission accomplished also he did seem to enjoy that you liked it so much to do this so mission even more accomplished in your eyes

but back to what you two were there for it´s … honestly a pretty nice convention in your eyes but that just might be because you didn´t encounter any gatekeepers so far which greatly improves everything

you were holding Simeon´s hand and looking up at him “so watcha think about this? kinda interesting huh?” he was looking around “it´s… a really interesting experience” you had to hold back a laugh “if you think this is interesting now you should see how it was on social media” this caught his interest “there was even more?”

“so wanna check anything out? there is a lot of TSL themed things we could choose from” Simeon was still holding your hand and you don´t think he will let go of it anytime soon “Leviathan said there would be some people´s attempt at remaking food from it”

“sooo snacks first or did you want a cook book?” Simeon lightly moved you along “knowing you I think food would be a good way to start, we will be walking for a while and you skipped breakfast again” he was still smiling at you but more in the “you better watch what you do now” way, just slightly hiding the rage behind it

“you noticed?” wrong thing to say before he just seemed more upset at you “yes and if we get home we are going to have a serious talk I hope you know this” you physically deflated “yay… even more scolding”

both you and Simeon got some food, looking at it you wonder if Simeon based the description of those foods on Devil and Angel foods they sure look like them, tastes a lot more different though but that might just be the lack of of weird ingredients

he thought for a moment “I heard people were displaying their artworks and interpretations of my characters and I would love to see those, it´s rare for me to find them” yeah you know why it´s rare, this man can´t work anything more advanced than a type writer most of the time and teaching him has… mixed results most of the time

“it´s your day Simeon, we´ll do whatever you want” he gave you a smile “I would love to, but you should still enjoy this day with me”

this man really is to sweet for words “don´t worry I´m sure it´ll be plenty of fun!” you gave him a bright grin and walked towards the stands

it was really impressive in your opinion but some of them seem to get a rather critical eye from Simeon, most notably the ones who are either selling replicas, figurines or outfits from the series guess they can be glad they don´t work with him, he did help with a stage play in RAD and it wasn´t easy

you saw him take a look at all the art that´s being displayed and he looked so happy about it, there is everything from all forms of drawings, figurines, even some out of Glass and some even were showing of their writings, it seems like he really took a liking to the people´s writings he seemed to enjoy reading them and giving the people compliments and in some cases some well meaning critiques not to say he didn´t enjoy looking at the other art works just that he paid a bit more attention to those

this really wasn´t what you were expecting when you left Luke alone, poor kid even promised he had everything under control when you wrote him a quick text a couple of hours ago…

Simeon though looks really calm like eerily calm so calm your sure everybody that´s in his vicinity should evacuate before they are they are face with his wrath

notes from week four :p

happy kay mccall week everyone i hope you enjoyed kay mccall week. i love her, and i love her love for bev, and i love her hate for tom. this is the exact woman we want bev marsh to have as a friend, someone who will look out for her and give her honest opinion on men like tom without ever making bev feel at fault or guilty. the care she shows bev in this scene is sooo important to me because this seems to be the only adult friendship beverly has, and i also like how it continues the themes of what love&friendship mean, especially for adults working with confusing childhood trauma:

i also appreciate that the book is written so that as the characters as adults remember things we as readers experience it for the ‘first time’ as well, since the two timelines are interwoven to emphasize how a traumatic childhood will continue to impact adulthood. this section for example comes right after bev meets up with kay after leaving tom, and shows how beverly felt about her father as a child:

the horrible truth is that her father is both extremely abusive while also occasionally acting like a father should. bev knows he has the ability to love her and care for her but he doesn’t, and that must mean it’s her fault, the same way she’ll take the blame when she does something ‘wrong’ and tom punishes her for it. while kay on the outside can see it for the abuse it is (and beverly knows on some level that it is wrong), it’s still difficult for bev to accept that she deserves more because growing up she was taught that love is something you have to be good for, something earned through obedience. it’s also telling that her mother suspect that her father is sexually abusing her but unwilling to explicitly ask beverly or explain to her what is and isn’t appropriate for a father/daughter relationship. i also like that the horror in this scene comes from beverly seeing all the blood in the sink but both her parents being unable to; beverly thinks she’s going crazy, again blaming herself and making her feel isolated.

i also really love this bit of foreshadowing:

throughout the rest of the chapter we get more of her friendship with ben, eddie, and stan which is really fun, i particularly enjoy the laundry scene. it’s just another incident where the kids are forced to take matters into their own hands. i also really like that we get stan’s scene in the standpipe, but his reaction to it is very interesting as well:

this is honestly theeee stan moment to me. that last section i so generously highlighted for you is literally burned into my mind i love it so much. and it makes sense, that this is how stan thinks and how he processes the world as a child, already so logicbound that as an adult he would not be able to accept it. i also like that in this chapter he’s described as small, economical, and graceful, kind of emphasizing his weird rational adult mind and his actual age.

up next we get the second interlude! mike hanlon’s family is so interesting to me, and i like that there is a lot of his personal history tied to the town history, like his father seeing the bird after the fire at the black spot and will hanlon’s own feelings of being called to derry to have his family— again there is a sense of fate and destiny, like stan uris noting that ‘everything leads to everything’ mike notes that there are wheels of the universe, and they seem to be geared towards making each of the seven losers meet, manipulating even their parents to this end:

‘good can be awful as well’ is also interesting— bad consequences of good actions? it’s definitely ominous, and adds to the dread that’s building in this chapter.

the same concept of circles comes up in the next chapter as well, once all the losers meet and get reacquainted. mike feels like their original circle of seven has been broken with stan’s death and they will be forced to make a smaller circle, which is something he is unsure about. i actually really like how uncertain mike is in this situation, he’s just presenting the facts and his theories as he understands them. he truly does not expect any of the losers to stay, but he could not break their promise to come back. he’s just doing what he thinks is best to keep them informed. there’s a great line in this chapter about how librarians sit on the ‘peak-seat of eternity’s engine’ and i think it’s a perfect description for mike, who sees and hears as much as the town will tell him (and let him save— there’s already been a few instances of mike being noted as the man who is trying to preserve histories and certain parts of derry, like the alladin).

anyways, back to the circles, this time noted by bill denbrough at the losers reunion:

time is the thing in this novel i think i find most compelling. time is the circle drawing them in, unable to let them go on. their memory loss is the same as losing time (remind me to revisit THAT idea in the last chapter), but it’s also interesting that this one paragraph connects a direct line: time = pennywise = losers, all interwoven and possibly unable to escape each other. pennywise wrote come home, come home, and it’s implied earlier in this chapter that there is a love and need for pennywise in derry’s residents, and i think that while the losers promised to come back pennywise might also need them to, definitely wants them to. like mike hanlon said, a certain order needs to be restored, and the losers left behind unfinished business in their childhood. time = pennywise = losers because they’re all circling around that one event 27 years ago, and none of them can move on until it’s all truly done.

Also sidenote but thank you for sending two asks?? I'm answering this one first since the amoneki ask will take me. A while. But also I read this and immediately went "eto !!! eto holy shit it's her!!" so I must get the energy out (and hope it's coherent)

How I feel about this character:  Goddd Eto is so fucking Cool as a character. She has so many things I absolutely Love in one character. She's an absolute monster in terms of power, eldritch-like, she is a horror beyond anyone's comprehension and I love her so much for that. When she made her first (I think) big appearance in :re (Volume 5. The Kanae Scene) I loved her sooo much more I love her fucked up-ness, I love her Apple and God Thing and 'breaking down people's idols and becoming their god' because I Love religious symbolism. She's so ominous and formidable and she has such a fucking presence, it's amazing, yet at the same time we still see the same loneliness in her that's prevelant in the majority of Tokyo Ghoul, but maybe even moreso. Throughout the series it's shown how important parents and family are and how they've shaped the characters and give them drive (especially considering almost nobody has both parents. alive, and it effects everyone So Much it's a constant theme.) And obviously Eto couldn't really. Have that. At all. And it fucked her up definitely. The loneliness is overshadowed by. The Monstrosity (which makes sense of course, because that loneliness also brews Hatred for the world) but it also cuts through in things like her writing as Takatsuki Sen (which Kaneki obviously picks up on and relates to), the way it shines through when she's able to deconstruct others' desires and wills and suffering (after all, one must experience suffering themself to truly understand someone else's), and the slight respite with Aogiri (man. I wish to know more of her dynamics with the members/executives so bad) god I love her so much, she also has such a cool character design I'm in love with it, I can't wait to see her even more in :re.

All the people I ship romantically with this character:  Hmm since she hasn't made too many major appearances with individual characters so far none really yet? However I feel like I may grow very intrigued in etoken, two people that share loneliness, they're also a little fucked up I think they could be interesting together (I'm certain they're gonna interact more later also i've seen. the eyeball scene (on accident) and honestly yeah that's my kinda Weirdness))

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Again I want to see more of her appearances/interactions with others more first !! But I'd honestly be happy just to see her interact with the other Aogiri executives more, it's pretty entertaining and it's definitely my kinda thing

My unpopular opinion about this character:  I guess I wouldn't really know if anything I thought is considered unpopular haha, I just kinda like her all around okay?

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Well, currently I just want to see her more in general, although I think seeing more of the ways she can totally screw with people would be great, she is so Psychological Horror and I fully support it

a headcanon fact: I am taking this opportunity to increase the religious undertones tenfold. She can pull out So many bible references on the fly (that a lot of people probably don't get) and definitely weaves them throughout her writing (Kaneki canonically knows things from the bible, more than the average person at least, so he would absolutely pick up on them). I think she'd have some very interesting thoughts about the bible and what it says about humanity and the idea of God itself, and she definitely owns one somewhere

• THE SCAAAAR! That’s something I added. Canonically he does have Eyebrow Scars, but the Jaw scar is something I added that will be talked about In The near future.

Dess I am going insane, I have conjured up so much thoughts and ideas about Marx just from the Magolor Epilogue alone that I'm practically EXPECTING Hal to make Marx more relevant in the next game, I am in TEARS I want him and Magolor to INTERACT !! PLEASE HAL PLEASE LET IT BE KNOWN !! THEY ARE GAY !!! THEY ARE GAAAY !! I just . SUUPER wish that like. Kirby characters interacted with each other more. It's honestly all so interesting and super cool-- I want to see Magolor talk to Taranza as though he were a pest ( jokingly ) for staying on his shoppe !! I want to see SUSIE discuss her past with someone like Magolor as they've been through a similar situation- I want to see Marx being a pesky lil guy causing trouble and someone like Dedede trying to stop him !! Magolor Epilogue had so much interesting dialogue, I want wish they'd get an official moment in the game to actually *meet* and *be* with each other. Or at least directly said / more implied ???? Honestly, what do you think about this ?? -Milksi, with many thoughts conjured in their head prior to 100% the game.

Milksi, I am in the EXACT SAME PLACE!! Like, I wrote all my speculation/thoughts/expectations/hopes for Marx to make some actual appearance before it came out and not a one of my wishes came true but they gave us a whole bunch of stuff I wasn't expecting that's somehow better? Because now they're like...

...Ahhh, they're even more tied together now? It's not just "they're both sketchy guys who tricked Kirby for power." The bond between Marx and Magolor continues to grow and I don't want to curse it by hoping for this, but it just feels like Marx HAS to be relevant somehow? Even if he's not though, this game has provided so much fodder for pretending something's there till the next game comes along!

If we're not imagining it and there IS a connection...well, I have no idea where this is leading to. Marx and his ties to the Master Crown (I still can't believe that I'd ever write that phrase. Marx.Has Ties.To the Master Crown) I want him to be okay, because favorite character, and they made poor Magolor suffer sooo much in this game! I just...they both deserve to be okay. (They're so delightful together. How can two characters who've never interacted on screen have such great chemistry? It's unfair! It makes all us Marxolor fans sound crazy, but it's true!)

Kirby characters interacting! We're soooo close too. We got hub worlds in the last two games. And when you look at the increase in dialog from the previous games (where there was typically none until the ending) it really could be building to having some on-screen character interaction.

(I just realized that now that we've seen where Magolor ended up, we can start speculating even more on Susie's poor, miserable childhood. Imagine going through what Ragolor went through only being like... 8 years old...)

(And Taranza. I'm fascinated by Magolor + Spider backstory now! I want to write something about them. Soon...)

(I also want more Marx and Dedede interaction. They feel like they would be hilarious together. Dedede is such a good dad and his relationship with Kirby has gotten so sweet but Marx is such a PEST that you can just see his patience, which has grown with each game slowwwwwwwly get wittled down.)

Two points! First, I can’t fully blame a shoulder to cry on for not having a kiss considering it stars two members of the same band. Given how intense kpop member shipping can get and just the general culture of the industry I wasn’t expecting one. I also am still unclear how much say the boys had in taking the role given the abusive situation the group was in, but they seem to be happily promoting it now so that is good! I’ll give them more slack for not having a kiss than other shows, but I think it shows why casting two members of the same group may not be the best idea.

Second, the eighth sense!!!! I’m SOOO intrigued by this one and it has so much potential. I’m super excited about the longer run time and I’m hoping it’ll mean a lot more fleshing out of characters and motivations than the typical KBL. I have some predictions on what’s to come in the next couple episodes based on synopses I’ve seen and I’m interested to see exactly what’s going to go down. I’m also really intrigued by the ex girlfriend. You’re right Korea doesn’t tend to do the evil ex (but they did do the jealous classmate with a crush in light on me!), but we’ll see how far they go with it here. I’m really curious to see what she knows. Jae Won’s friends only mentioned girls when talking about him dating, but she seemed immediately jealous of Ji Hyun. It makes me wonder if Jae Won might’ve told her he likes guys while breaking up with her or something. KBL and BL in general does seem to be trending more towards having more characters who 1) are actually queer (a lot less “it’s just you”) and 2) have figured out their sexuality before the start of the story. I also think Ji Hyun’s little rainbow light in his dorm room is there for a reason as well. Anyway, I’m super excited to see where it all goes! I’m sensing a lot of angst coming our way lol.

Yeah, I understand why there isn't a kiss but I still find that it felt like a romance that needed a kiss and the story didn't work as completely as I'd like without the final kiss. I get it but I also find it a bit frustrating and I do think it speaks to the choice they made in casting and the way fans act and that... that I am not gonna talk about because it's just terrifying.

I am definitely intrigued by The Eighth Sense. It's doing a lot for me in terms of the characters and the story and the progress we're making already in terms of what we might be dealing with and what the story might be about.

I do strongly suspect that JaeWon is bi or gay and that his ex knows but she's the only one who knows... but it honestly might also be about the kind of attention he's paying to JiHyun and her own recognition of that kind of attention when it's turn to someone else so... it could go a lot of ways.

The synopsis definitely promises angst and I don't know what to expect. It feels like they're trying to walk a line between queer media and BL (which is a specific subgenre of queer romance) and that is a line that I... tread carefully with. Because I definitely like BL for what it is and the more the romance turns into a Realistic Queer Story the more I tend to struggle with the media as I consume it.

@absolutebl mentioned the idea of this ending sadly and the more realistic it gets... the more likely that is, honestly. And that scares me. Even bittersweet endings only work for me very occasionally. I like my sap and joy and unrealistic endings filled with fluff.

Yes, social commentary but also mostly fluff and tropes and sweetness.

So... I am definitely enjoying The Eighth Sense and Unintentional Love Story (just to add it here) but they are both walking lines that can change. I actually think ULS is a lot more on the BL side than Eighth Sense, tbh, but I love them both. This is a line that I like treading but then the line snaps and suddenly I am Not So Pleased.

Anyway!

I like the way KBL is going with the honest queerness in the show but I also know that my preference is for BL over more realistic queer media so... we shall see how the story goes!

okay my spoilery thoughts on dragon age absolution are under the cut! do not click if you haven’t watched yet!

on the whole, i found it surprisingly enjoyable! the show probably isn’t that accessible if you’re not already a da fan, i feel like none of the lore actually gets explained at any point ( nor the references to dai ), so its widespread appeal might be kinda meh, but as a fan i really really liked it and you can tell it was made by those who are actually involved with these games unlike other video game adaptations

of course bioware never miss an opportunity to throw a mage extremist/traitor in lmaoo. never trust a mage but that added some interesting layers to hira even if it was kinda sad about her and miriam in the end. i was really hoping that miriam’s decision to choose queer love in the end would be rewarded but alas :(

qwydion and tassia were the best characters imo, tassia in particular was sooo interesting as a tevinter knight commander who actually opposes blood magic and wants to make tevinter better. she also deserves way better than the magister dude. i hope we see both of them again in dreadwolf

i really liked the orlesian and lord of fortune! they were cute!

fairbanks :(((( he deserved better especially as the show had us thinking he was the traitor for most of the show. also that he was voiced by matthew mercer made it all the more sad when he was only in it for two episodes lmao

the references to the inquisition!! cass!!! leliana!!!! the quick two second glimpse of josie!!!! it all made me very, very happy

and last but not least: dfkdhdjfkf meREDITH. i’m so excited for what this means, not just for dreadwolf and the implications of the crimson knight and red templars setting their sights on tevinter, but also the implications on kirkwall. that’s a looooot of red lyrium, varric i hope you’re focused on what’s going on back home while helping out our next da protagonist

The Super Mario Bros. Movie Trailer, Initial Thoughts

I wanted to discuss a bit of my thoughts on the trailer for the new Mario movie.

I am INCREDIBLY impressed by the visuals and the animation. I mean seriously wow. The colors are crazy bright and the animation is smooth, it’s all very fitting for what everyone thinks of when they think of the Mario universe. Everything regarding the settings, character designs, colors, animation, facial expressions, ect. is spot on in my opinion. (I find Princess peach’s nose to be a little off but she’s still gorgeous so I don’t really have anything to critique in this area.)

We don’t have much of the plot apart from the characters, mainly Mario, Peach, the toads, and Luigi, trying to stop Bowser from taking over the world. I’m hoping there’s a bit more depth to it but honestly I would be totally fine with a more simplistic plot for this movie. I’m hoping they put an interesting twist on this but I won’t be disappointed if not. I think this movie brings a lot of nostalgia but with new animation and a more coherent/smooth story line. The nostalgia factor seems to be part of what they’re going for and I think if that’s the intent then a simple plot will be perfect.

Other things I really liked: PEACH!!! I cannot explain how much I love her. (Always always have.) I am incredibly excited to see her in a more action related role rather than the “damsel in distress” she usually plays in the game and other Mario related content. I loved playing Super Princess Peach when I was a kid, so seeing her actually get to fight and be a part of the saving is going to be sooo satisfying. This was the major change from the old content to new, I feel. At least that’s one of the changes that stuck out to me most from the trailer alone.

Now let me hit on some things I don’t care so much for. My biggest gripe is the voice acting. I really don’t feel like Mario (voiced by Chris Pratt) or Princess Peach (voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy) have voices that fit them. Where the heck did Mario’s Italian accent go????? That is so integral to who he is as a character and part of the reason he’s such an iconic character. That is INCREDIBLY disappointing. For Princess Peach, her voice doesn’t fit her personality whatsoever. Anya Taylor-Joy has a very elegant and gentle voice, but Peach’s voice is usually so much more unique. It typically comes off as reflecting a lot of emotion, as excitable, and with a bit of sass. Anya just doesn’t have the voice to suit the character in this case. I’m not against her voicing characters but Peach was the total opposite of the kinds of characters that she could embody well. In short, I’m disappointed with both choices for Mario and Peach’s voice actors. However I will say that every other characters voices apart from those two do sound great and spot on.

So, a summary of my thoughts. I’m excited for the movie and will watch it when I’m able to. I liked the trailer and some of the different characterizations of characters, particularly Peach. I feel like everything about it seems very entertaining and full of nostalgia. I am disappointed with Peach and Mario’s voices/voice actors. They don’t fit either character in the slightest, which is actually kind of a blow to the entire thing considering how iconic Peach and Mario are. I think this could be a good movie but I doubt it’ll be a great one I want to watch more than once.
