Bill Hodges Gallery is pleased to present three booths in this year’s Hamptons Virtual Art Fair, open until September 7. The third booth previewed here is dedicated entirely to works by the artist Romare Bearden. Best known for his abstract collages and portrayals of African American life, Bearden often used a lively color palette to explore themes related to religion and the human experience. This booth pairs large scale, abstract paintings such as The Rites of Spring, 1941 with densely layered, abstract collages like Saturday Evening, 1975, showcasing the evolution of Bearden’s artistic style across his prolific career. ~ The Family, 1975 Color Aquatint and Photoengraving on Paper AP Edition of 25 19 1/4 x 26 1/8 in. “Impossible Spaces” • by artist duo Rachel Ziriada & Mikhail Miller of NASARIMBA @nasarimba_ • Located on the upper level @kingswaymall • [ In this mural we wanted to play with the ideas of interior and exterior spaces. The design was developed from a collage of images of modernist architecture from around the world. One of the buildings is a reference to the Al Struckus House by architect Bruce Goff. ] • Created as part of the Kingsway Mural Project • Kingsway has invited local and international mural artists of all genres to transform drywall into canvas and bring art to its walls. Partnering with Edmonton’s @rustmagic mural festival, they have allocated over six thousand square feet of walls for murals. Artists have already begun work and will continue working throughout 2020. These are temporary murals and it is not known how long they will be on display.
