I fell head over heels for the composition its really really unique and it works wonderfully! Their colors were gorgeous and very well balanced, they rly took the prompt and made it their own and it worked wonders :)!

ive done a lot of translating to high valyrian in my day and id like to think im pretty good at it sometimes (the way ive spent literal hours researching how just one piece of grammar works to change a noun to an adverb or something is maybe insane)

anyway all that to say i usually know what to look for and how to apply it, but i am struggling with this new bit im trying to translate. “i disdain all glittering gold.”

ive replaced disdain with hate cause there doesnt seem to be a word for disdain in valyrian and hate is the closest approximation. same with glittering — replaced that with shine, and had to manually transform that to an adjective (jehikagon -> jehikere? dunno if its right)

so what i have now is “nyke buqan unir jehikere aeksion”

(im not as concerned with getting the word order right as i am with the rest of the grammar)

ive learned from a previous answer “nyke” is potentially (probably) unnecessary here, so that leaves it as “buqan unir jehikere aeksion,” but the unir there in the middle kinda makes it feel off and im not sure if maybe that also needs to be part of a compound word like valar or how to make it one if so because idk what part of valar is all and what part is men and how to fit aeksion into that equation.

i lost track of what my question was originally meant to be but i guess im wondering if im on the right track and if theres some guidance you may have to get me all the way there.

Uhhhhhh... Not to be that dude, but...maybe be more concerned with that...?

I'm not sure if you know about this site, but my wiki is exhaustively updated with respect to High Valyrian, specifically. There's a team of people that work on High Valyrian and it's massive. For example, you could go to the entry for jehikagon and see that jehikere is wrong: it should be jehikare. And, of course, it has to agree with āeksion (note the long ā), so it should be jehikarior. To get the sense of repetitiveness (with "glittering"), you might add ā- to the front, so ājehikarior.

Now for "all", why not use the collective? This is how you get "All men must die", so it should work for "I distain all glittering gold". That would be āeksior. Of course, it would need to be in the accusative, so altogether it would be ājehikarior āeksȳndi. By adding the repetitive you kind of get the aliteration, too, since they both begin with ā.

Finally you have "disdain", for which buqagon serves. Aside from sound a little more posh, the difference between "disdain" and "hate" in English seems to be one of duration. The words "disdain" and "loathe" seem to emphasize that this is a character trait rather than a reaction. If you disdain something, you've given it some thought, have experience with it, and may use this as a way of describing or characterizing yourself. You can do this with "hate" as well, but it's a much more common word, and so can be used in other more basic ways, whereas "disdain" and "loathe" tend to only have specalized uses. To try to approximate this, you could use the frequentative with buqagon to imply a lengthy duration. That would give you jobuqan "I disdain". In fact, you could even use the aorist if you really wanted to imply that it was a description of yourself, i.e. jobuqin.

Now that you have the pieces, though, I really hate to say it, but the words must be in the right order. I mean, you can change the order of the noun and adjective, if you'd like, but you simply cannot put the verb first and think you've created a Valyrian sentence. It's not just "kind of" wrong: it's completely wrong. It'd be like suggesting "I him saw" is close enough in English because the forms are correct. It's not. It's wrong. This is not a minor part of the grammar you can ignore. High Valyrian is aggressively verb-final. The verb must be at the end.

All in all, that gives you:

Ājehikarior āeksȳndi jobuqin.

oh this is gonna be so hard considering he has no name (and i will never give him one). this is a huge ramble www under the cut it goes

okay first of all: his reflection is kai-shirr. that boy is his spitting image, except tarts dad was older and had pale blue hair and eyes, hahah. that first time tart saw him on the kholusian coast felt like being gutted with deja vu. he was born in ilsabard, maybe around corvos, in a village of mixed miqo'te tribes. hes from a big family w many siblings and half-siblings. the second oldest and strongest of the boys, all set to be warriors who will defend their home from garlemald. he took good care of his little siblings as a kid, then started to take up mercenary work really young to help provide for the family. or well. actually it was to gain his fathers approval. bc his old man really, really hated that his son was gay. he kept trying to do more, be more famous and achieve impressive things, bring in more money, its no use. there was a limit to what a guy could do in backwater ilsabard. so he went okay! ill go be famous in eorzea and then youll see, pops!! so off he went, bumping into a young viera in the woods and becoming fast friends w him, then the two joined the wol and her elezen partner as a party of adventurers in ul'dah. and they got a full party later on and became friends forever (citation needed)! yay!!

he was always the moodmaker of the group. the guy who kept everyone lighthearted and motivated. though more like the big brother or nice senpai than a class clown. unfortunately unlike at home hes like the youngest in the party so it was pretty silly seeing him give pep talks to the other guys visibly older than him wwww. hes also the kind of guy to instantly jump into a situation whenever one came up like "no worries ill handle this one! oh god oh fuck–" well he always managed somehow. despite being impulsive and kinda dumb miss wol trusted him the most to handle situations w her and be her cotank hehehehe. hes also a crazy workaholic. like you wouldnt think so bc hes very sociable too but his days were like 50% work 40% shooting the shit w everyone in town 10% everything else. he thinks life can only get better when you achieve more!!! insane achievement hunter mindset going on here. theres always something to improve at everyday, or else something new to learn. he could not sit still and never spent more than 2 seconds at home. which you can imagine was pretty sad for tart. haha. but he was also a very positive and caring person, always looking for what he can compliment out of any and all situations. its so out of pocket too sometimes, but no matter, the important part is staying positive!

if that sounds like toxic positivity, ohhh yeah lmao this guy was. he certainly was. he would never, everrrr show anyone his negative or vulnerable side. hes the guy whos supposed to cheer everyone up! it wont do to have him bummed out! well he would never admonish anyone else for having issues, but himself, most definitely. if he had problems he would stop at nothing to solve them. if theyre unsolvable he would stop at nothing to do anything else that would count as an achievement to make himself feel better. oh yeah man this is totally never gonna backfire horribly and ruin the family you built with your own hands (citation needed)

Yakuza Fiance Manga Comparison ep 11

Two eps to go. Ep 11 while still good is a return to form as the ep drops quite a lot of details from the manga, some small, some fun and some a real shame to drop. You'll find these under the cut. And like always cause I'm lazy I'm using scans.

Ok so the first weird change you can almost just call an animation error its when Kirishima takes Yoshinos bag. You don't actually see him take it in the anime, he just kinda has it, its weird

The manga shows us that the intent was coming up behind her and grabbing it but like the anime just has a close up on a side view and then he has it, again just weird.

Tsubaki and Shoma's arguement actually goes on a little longer in the manga.

While I wish it kept the boxes I am like so insanely happy they folded in the extra that explains their beef. The bathroom scene was a volume extra I was convinced the anime only's would never know what started it.

Sadly the Renji goes down memory lane scene is cut short from the manga

This didn't really hit me the first time but it is weird how he goes from talking about drinking to the car, and well this is why.

The scene in the basement is pretty one to one though I'll say this the manga is bloodier. Like it really looks like Kirishimas nose was broken whereas the anime its just like kinda red

Not really a change more like an issue over censorship or maybe technical limitations.

So there's actually a little scene with Yoshino and Tsubaki to ease into the conversation about her dating Kirishima in the manga

ITs not much of a loss but adds some character touches

This however is a sad loss here cause it touches on Yoshino's fears with kirishima

She just sorta makes a face in the anime.

And this right here like it feels like it was meant to be in but was cut late cause theres this flash of white after the sales person bit

This montage of their weirdly domestic life is a real loss to me, just cause it's funny a cute and proves once again that Tusbaki is right.

So they cut out the bit that explains the lighter gift better

If you're like me and know little about lighters based on shape. A gas lighter is harder to use and takes more time, which is why Yoshino bought it as a gift.

Ok so technically theres nothing different in this scene it's just another sins of the father bit.

So Shoma in the manga hasn't really questioned anything Renji has done up until this point. He's speculated a little but and has thought to look into things overall in terms of more higher up issues but not Renji himself. Its not till after this confrontation that Shoma starts digging in. BUT the anime has added two scenes that could imply he already is questioning. Maybe I'm reading into things but that's the vibe that he's already wary and kinda contradicts this scene.

So we loose out on some Yoshino and Tsubaki content

We get more of Tsubaki's Renji simping but more importantly we get Yoshino piecing together what went down. It also lets us know that she is very observant as Renji tried to hide what was happening but she always knew.

We also got more of Yoshino with the bat in the manga

It doesn't add much just kinda explains more why she's worn out at the end. (plus its fun)

And this scene looses a little more character too

I feel her frustration haha

Overall the button sequence is a lot longer with a lot more confused Kirishima it would actually be a lot to show but here's some of my favorite bits

We also miss out on Kirishima being so extra

And some more goading

(also just fyi if you think Shouma looks good in the anime he's like 10x hotter in the manga)

So we get more of a natural scene change with Tsubaki and Kirishima

It's not a lot but adds more to the characters overall, and flows better.

So again we loose this

like I think an anime only might be able to piece together that Yoshino knew what was going on and that she figured out why Kirishima did what he did but it sure as hell is harder for little reason.

The rest is pretty much beat for beat with the manga. I guess for covering four chapters this isn't too bad but I do think this ep looses some Yoshino insight which always sucks but at least it didn't feel weird while I watched for the most part.

How do you start gender hoarding? I know that it might sound like a stupid question, but you see, I live in a place where trans people and nbs are looked down upon but lesbians and gays are ok. (rural Australia)

So my view of gender is very “traditional” and where I live there’s only really female, male, trans and (very rare) nonbinary. I also have highly suspected autism/ self diagnosed yet I don’t see gender in a way I hear people with autism do, probably due to my upbringing

I want to know from a person like you who knows the “newer” ways of gender how I should gender hoard and not stick myself to just the traditional genders

its not a stupid question at all!! ill do my best to answer! so i identify as agender transmasc. agender goes under the trans umbrella and nonbinary, but i dont see myself as gender neutral i just have no gender. now going more into the transmasc, just means i feel more masculine. doesnt really effect the way i present my gender any differently, hmm i guess i dont really know how to explain it. i dont understand the concept of gender, i dont understand a lot of social constructs, i honestly think its sort of unneeded. my gender is complex in the most noncomplex way, its vast and its tiny. ive made my own genders based off of feelings and intrests, i think thats the best way to get started with genderhoarding. making your own ideas, analyzing yourself. (personally its helped me become more aware of who i am!) imaginationnnnn!! creativity!! make something up, no ones stopping you! the way i view gender is its what makes you, you. it doesnt have to make sense to anyone but you. it doesnt have to make sense! some of the things i tie in with my gender are the rustling of leaves in a forest, fog in the early morning, large fields, chaotic music, soft stuffed animals, the smell of pavement after it rains, soft piano music, acoustic guitar, the moon some of those things are real different!! and those are some of the things that i view my gender as! i think its a lot easier too with the internet, theres a ton of people who have similar ideas and interests so they also make genders, sexualities, and flags to go along with them.

i have a board on pinterest that i frequently add stuff to, i could link it here if you would like! i also save just anynthing that pops up if it remindes me of my friends or it seems cool. it doesnt mean i identify with it, but its cool to read about them! i keep track of them in a notebook as well!! my genders relate to my hyperfixations, mostly. Hyperfixations and anything that i can relate too! ex. horrormasc: a masculine aligned horrorgender. fits both definitions (1: a horrifying/all over the place gender, and 2: a gender related to different horror genres) raingender: a xenogender connected to the rain scenekid/scene neutral, oldwebemoic, onlineboyic, endspacic etc, etc. dont feel rushed at all to tell your boyfriend! when i started feeling more comfortable telling people, i made sure to have articals pulled up to read, notes etc. so it would be easier to sort me thoughts? get it out more smoothly. i also wanted to talk about self-diagnosing!! i hear so much negative about it, but honestly, its good to research and try and find out things about yourself. that my opinion. and not for longterm, just for a bit until you can get evaluated. gahhhhh self diagnosing is valid and it makes me so mad to see people who think its not. granted, some people to just see a couple things and "oh yup got that" but when you really spend time looking at signs, symptoms, traits it can be very beneficial in the long run, and also just to check before you go get evaluated also i apologize if this is insanely long, or if it makes no sense. im sleep deprived, im trying to fall asleep gahh i hope this helped even a little bit!! if you want me to expand on anything or explain anything further feel free to dm me!

ok onto the fic itself, i have a few things to say:

1) i will never get over the way you build up to the climax of the fic. like, from the beginning, its always so obvious that something big is going to happen and i just can never wait until the next update to find out. i dont think ive ever skim read one of your paragraphs because every word pulls me in a makes me want moreee.

2) the way you use imagery in your work is actually something i think should be studied because you do it SO WELL. an example from chapter one that i cant stop thinking about;

His mind whirls. He’s back to spinning out of control. It feels as though his head might come off his shoulders, twisted and twisted and twisted around, thinning his neck, and becoming too unsteady.

like hello???? i can picture every tiny little detail of this moment and its insane how you can just do that.

3) the chemistry between your characters never feels forced or awkward. ive noticed that you dont use dialogue too much when writing smut and i love that because it lets the reader really visualise whats going on. but when you do its absolutely perfect. the way you kept the power dynamics going steadily throughout and even when they were talking on the balcony, it just made me realise how much you really care about what you write and it made reading so much more enjoyable.

theres literally like a million other things i could say but im not gna ramble here. instead, take some snippets that i especially enjoyed that i will think about for a long, long time:

A shiver wracks Steve’s body, accompanied by a rough exhale that fills his bedroom—a confession of how much he’s enjoying this by its very nature.

okay i just went back and rewatched all the scenes from this season involving dazai and/or chuuya, now that i know that chuuya was pretending to be a vampire the whole time, because. i was possessed by the soukoku brainrot. anyway 10/10 recommend, knowing what theyre actually up to adds so much flavour

first off. dazais whole "chuuya, wake up. our fate will not end here" monologue is SO funny now. his dramatic ass deliberately planted himself in front of a camera and put on a show for fyodor. no wonder chuuya cut him off partway through lmfao he is SO sick of him. i would also bet that chuuya shooting him in the shoulder wasnt part of the plan (bc lets face it, he fucking would), and thats why dazai yelled and cursed him out- because he genuinely wasnt expecting it. of course it could all be part of the show, but its VERY funny to imagine that chuuya was like "hey i bet i could shoot this bastard right now and play it off like it was part of the act" and then just did it. i hate them so much

theres also the chuuya drowning monologue. now, i think its safe to say that dazai knew how that was gonna shake down, given that he clearly knows chuuyas powers better than fyodor, and he couldve reasonably predicted that fyodor would catch on in time to make an escape plan. which means this one was also completely for the drama of it. however, if you wanna get a little angsty about it, dazai is basically trusting that fyodor will save chuuya here. hes deliberately trying to kill both of them and if fyodor isnt clever enough to escape, he just killed chuuya while chuuya was IN DISGUISE TO HELP HIM and COMPLETELY AWARE OF WHATS HAPPENING. do you think there was any part of dazai that considered that these could be his last words to chuuya? he does seem to be genuinely reflecting on their history, given the flashbacks that play in the background (although that could just be for the viewer, of course, and not a reflection of his actual thoughts) so...... it might not be ENTIRELY for show. but maybe im just saying that bc i want to believe that dazai was being at least a little bit genuine when he straight up admitted- OUT LOUD- that they do actually understand each other and have a genuine connection even though they dont get along. because holy shit

one last thing. when dazai reveals that chuuya stopped the bullet and goes "we used to do this all the time, remember?" ????? hello?????? like i know chuuya has stopped bullets plenty of times. but stopping them RIGHT at someones skull, especially DAZAIS where the gravity manipulation would vanish as soon as it touches him..... how many times have you needed to do that?? and why????? like its just casually so fucking chaotic, i love references to their past like that because it can be easy to forget the kind of shit they got up to. i should rewatch the arc where they first met.......

anyway this has more than made up for the lack of chuuya content. knowing that chuuya was aware the whole time and pretending to be a vampire...... and that dazai knew that and was just putting on a show...... i will be going insane about this forever. theyre literally soulmates theyre desperate to kill each other theyre so fucking dramatic i want to hit them with my car. thank you for coming to my ted talk

I love your otto brainrot. He's favorite person to gush about in this series. I also love your analysis about one of the latest chapters and regarding Otto! ust, chef's kiss.

Anyhow, I would also like to add a crack theory about why otto never talked about his dp allowing him to talk to infants too. In this moment, it very much be because, as you said, he wants Spica to be eliminated. But! We're thinking small here. My question morphs into a more general perspective; why would Otto, and tappei to an extent, keep such information about his dp under wraps for this long, way before these Spica shenanigans? And I feel like the author may want to expand on that regard. Because as far as the rest of the crew knows (and as far as I remember), they know he can only talk to animals. But that chapter states he can talk to any living being (?), which I think may hint to it being a bigger fucking deal than we may realize. Like outside the Louis development, as well as Otto's frustration development, this power in of itself can cause a ripple of what Otto's capabilities are, and to not underestimate it.

So, now I wonder, would tappei utilize this tidbit for more development about Otto's power? What do you think?

Nice. survival of the fittest and things just die sometimes (ottos made various animal friends throughout his life and Many animals have smaller lifespans than him as well + some, such as bugs, are more fragile than him) and animals take actions according to their Nature (even if its. Bad, by human moral standards.) and all that - so i think the double whammy of ottos dp and him taking on merchant ideals is very much partly why hes so insane fr HAH.

A: It's not the letters, but the speaker's intent that he picks up, so he could tell the difference.

but no yeah like........ ottos dp is specifically about Animals and well. humans and demihumans ARE animals. so it makes sense that it carries into humans and demihumans a bit so the whole catching someones intent thing is super fascinating and i feel like he could Definitely utilize it for more of his schemes?? esp when you combine that with the usual ways he uses his dp with animals - his power is Perfect for spying on others and gathering info in general. from my understanding of his power though, animals have to agree to help him, but given he can communicate with them and hes. well hes a good talker and also a bit of a manipulative bitch (affectionate) so like getting animals to help him doesnt seem like too much of an issue usually for him. so no but yeah his power is like. Off the Charts. and now we got big confirmation in the main story that he can UNDERSTAND PEOPLES INTENT BEHIND THEIR WORDS....? no yeah i think tappei will at least utilize it for the louis-spica plot things (ie otto wants her dead so hes just not gonna say anything about how he knows her true intent isnt to actually hurt anyone).

but i feel like otto could possibly use it for plans... or accidentally catch tidbits of info he shouldnt. im not entirely sure how, but. well. roswaal still hasnt delivered on his promise to kill everyone if even one person subaru cares about dies and Now roswaal knows that 1. otto plans to continue opposing subaru and emilia and keep pulling strings and 2. subaru wants louis to stay alive because he cares about her. it seems like massive emilia camp inner conflict is bound to happen at some point hah... the current situation is a ticking time bomb T^T and thats ON TOP of otto still working on restoring the book of wisdom... it all makes me wonder if otto will overhear a convo he shouldnt and catch the true underlying intent to otherwise innocent dialogue. or something like that.... or if louis's intent fluctuates in some way which otto will be Very aware of. if that happens. or if someone else somehow figures out ottos hiding the fact that he knows louis is innocent via his dp alsdjflsjdf. or maybe roswaal hints at his genocide plan and otto figures out the intent???? everyone is at a stalemate atm fr and im fascinated to see what comes next.

like i really feel that hes so tired of things happening throughout his life out of control (remember his bad luck T^T and the way his dp used to fuck him over in his childhood? yeah T^T) that hes been trying to exert more and more control over his camp. bc like. vincent asking the emilia camp for help was nudged into that direction by otto. ottos also stepped a bit out of line by being hostile to julius and anastasia bc. otto that shit was unncessary aljsdlfjd theyre your camps allies!!!! and now ottos letting his camp be sus of louis by keeping quiet about her true intent. like otto is straight up like. hes kind of possessive of his camp isnt he? bc hes so fixated on making things go the way he wants (not that he wanted to help vollachia, but he wanted to help subaru and emilia which is why he pushed things in that direction, and now he wants to kill louis). it all makes me wonder if he'll ever have to use his dp against his camp given hes. kind of already doing that by lying to them - though itd probably be difficult to use his dp more actively against them if only bc they all already know what his dp is. theres no element of surprise there, but i think with the right circumstances he could possibly use it to figure out Something at least. bc like while he Does feel guilty, there is next to nothing stopping him from doing more shit on top of the shit hes been doing so far in arc 8 HAH. his moral compass is just literally broken and pointing straight down to hell. that mixed with his stubbornness and intellect and anger is like. well anyone going against otto is pretty fucked.

like. what is stopping him from sending a little bug to spy on subaru at all times. probably the fact that subaru and co. have a high chance of maybe noticing it and noticing that ottos keeping. too close of an eye on them. which would stop otto and his new declared "i walk in darkness" goal but all of this keeps making me wonder what lines otto WONT cross. and how far hes willing to go to do what he thinks is necessary to save his camp. and also what the consequences of his decisions will be.

Welcome to Day 2 of my self-imposed challenge for October, where I listen to 31 albums I haven't gotten around to listening to yet in an attempt to clear through my overwhelming Spotify library and document my thoughts.

The Weird And Wonderful Marmozets by Marmozets!

So I found this album actually a few days ago on Google, my homepage has news stories, and an article brought up this album as being "the weirdest rock album of the decade" and I was simply intrigued by how they worded it. I quote "mixed mathcore, punk, indie, and alt-rock into a fresh new take that took the scene over by storm." and as someone who loves a bunch od those things- If not all, I pulled up my spotify IMMEDIATELY to add it. I didn't even bother reading the rest of the article quite frankly. I'm sure it's alright but this, seemed like everything I'd be interested in.

Upon the first track it immediately engaged me with the drums and riffs. Almost electrical in a sense that it ignites the energy and then pulls away to allocate for the vocalist to yell... WHICH... as I'd spoken before I'd just found this from an article so I did not have a whole lot of prior knowledge on the band. I did look a little through their catalog to see they've been inactive since 2017 and that they only have two albums out and an EP(?). I'll have to look into the other album at a different time more in depth, but the female vocalist was NOT expected but holy crap!!!! She literally comes into the track and absolutely owns it. If I could explain her voice, it reminds me a bit of Against The Current's vocalist X Bea Miller during her "Not An Apology" album X Cassidy Mackenzie's covers on YT. Like- it's got a similar sound definitely but unlike anything I'm familiar with.

I adore it! The realization that I have not found many bands with a female vocalist with this type of sound is insane. The only thing however is I do not entirely love the lyrics. Yes, everything SOUNDS great, but the lyrics. It's giving Disney Channel Pop-punk. Which isn't a bad thing at all, but genuinely the sound is great, but the first track fell short in the lyrics.

AND THEN the second track hits. And holy damn the fry in her vocals absolutely was not expecting. GOOD. I completely fucking loved that shit, and it's much more up my alley with everything it is.

Which is amazing because when I write a band au, this is the sound I'm envisioning. This sound. It's so fascinating. Grabbing your attention with the drums and riffs and then toned down to let her be known full force. Such a interesting sound and I think that this track genuinely was everything. "Captivate You" completely enamored me as well, I adored it. A lot of this album I can say I genuinely loved to experience. I don't know how I hadn't found these guys before now!! I would've eaten them up years ago I think. The lyrics sure aren't as mature as I'm familiar with but I think the vocals are genuinely such an eye opener and theres a handful of absolutely amazing track on here. Semi replayabilty, I think I could definitely listen to this a bunch and not feel bored and its a decent length. 46 minutes! Not bad at all.

Would I recommend this? Hm. Possibly? I'm not too sure, I don't think I'd recommend the entire album because it can feel a bit cheesy but I think it's sound is something I have NOT seen before in bands I'm accustomed to listening to. It sets them apart having that female vocalist for me, which I've prompted to educate myself on more bands with female vocalists because it seems that most pop-punk is male dominated, unfortunately. Which this is definitely something of a gem. I think its a good thing to take a chance on if you enjoy the genre and want to switch it up. There's good stuff here. It would be worth the time to give it a spin if you wanted to, but I don't think its a needed thing in full if you just want to see the good stuff. There's cohesiveness, but not all songs are differentiated to where it doesn't feel too different from one another. There's good to be had here, and I did enjoy my time and will be relistening to this record, but there's also better introductions and examples of pop-punk as a genre.

step being step, and them being telepaths, i always thought they had ways to protect their mindscape just in case something happened, so those are going to be added along with the actual descriptions of the mindscape! ill add a bit of what their thoughts sound/feel like because it goes hand in hand for me

Caine- their mindscape is a mix of both the farm and the rangers HQ, because those two were the most fomative places in caine learning what to do and how to be. for a long time they werent anything but a vessel for what others wanted. his mindscape will shift depending on what caine associates the person with the most(fun fact, ortega is more or less at the midway point between the farm and the rangers. it makes for,,, an interesting look to his mindscape). the only thing that doesnt change, though, is that it always feels strangely impersonal, like hes viewing his own mind in a third person perspective. their mind is firm yet adaptable, and while his shields arent,,,,the greatest, they dont need to be. he keeps track of the mental feel of anybody in their brain, and arranges something accordingly. whatever seems to be a particular persons weakpoint, hell pick up on and project. its difficult to find anything in their brain (that sounds like an insult but i Swear its not) since its bare of more personal objects or revealing factors. they use their observations and skill to make sure nobody can do much to their brain– just like a fight, find his opponents weakness and take advantage of it to win.

i always saw his thoughts as a mix of ortega and chens, most of them being short and clipped, but restless. hell often get lost in them, though hes always aware of whats going on around him. their imagination is surprisingly active, and they also come with a healthy dose of overthinking :D

Cyrus- i was mentally shaking your hand when you talked about cyrus mindscape. the core of his mind is exactly what you described; its a blaze, with near welding-torch focus towards its victims. youll be burned if you try to get close. but hes making sure nobody reaches that far. the surrounding area is a icy and cold, giving anybody inside absolutely nothing. hes laid tricks, of course: fading tracks in the snow, an odd rustle of bushes here or there, but mostly speaking its entirely barren. its a test of endurance, and hes depending on people failing from the environment before they can do any real damage. only the people who know him or are observant enough can figure out which way to go. as a little bonus tidbit: prehb cyrus' mindscape was a forest in midday, where the heat was just intense enough to feel it beating on your back. there are still remnants of that in his current mindscape, though the trees are fallen over and theres no sun to be found.

his thoughts are very final, for lack of better word. theres hardly room for doubt in them, though often times he'll ruminate on an idea to make sure everything is up to his satisfaction. despite the outer shell of his mindscape, his thoughts Do feel warm, but its more like friction burn

Cecilia- her mind is surprisingly open, and it is showy. its a museum, and when you enter theres a velvet carpet with those massive marble stairs in the middle and a beautiful chandelier overhead. every floor has paintings of things shes done, with the first few floors consisting entirely of her proudest moments, including the sidestep ones. im sure theres at least one painting of the nanosurge in there, she didnt like the fact that nobody knew she stopped it. there are some more quieter, but still happy memories when people go up, ones with ortega, argent, herald, and more. theres an uneasy feeling at about this point, though. the farther up they go, the stronger that feeling grows, to the point where the mental pressure could crush them completely. ceci doesnt need tricks like the other two do; she exercises power as her means of defense. its coupled with more disturbing paintings too, ones that depict things like the farm and the void. the lights get dimmer, theres less exhibits, and the final floor is just. empty. empty, and utterly lonely. what are you doing up here? theres nothing for you.

shes in the same boat as ortega, aka her thoughts Never shut up. shes creative and excitable, and its easy to get wrapped up in her thought processes. there doesnt tend to be repetition or circling, she doesnt stay on the same thought for very long.

Cynthia- you know the "you... are... lost in memories" line in rebirth? thats what cynthias mindscape is like. its a house thats an amalgamation of every home shes visited before: tia elenas, anathemas, and of course ortegas. it invites nostalgia. every object sends a person into memories, using the same system that nightmare loops do, but kinder. the memories are wrong, though. faces can get blurred, voices are distorted, and touch is especially difficult to get right. it can be disorienting to experience these loops, and they become nauseating if you spend too long in them. the house itself is a maze, and it feels like it goes on forever. none of the rooms repeat itself, but they cant be used as a marker either, because it never seems like you can go back to the same room you were in before. thats how cynthia protects herself– nothing is the same, everything is a trap, and when a person falls for it, she can safely extract them from her mind.

her thoughts are long, slow, and careful, and she often goes back to earlier thoughts to consider them further. her thoughts are twitchy too, theyre easily affected by her environment. theyre warm though, and i imagine feels like somebody reading a story to you

jokes on you im going to entertain this because im feeling a little silly. going to be all over the place since its just a bunch of random stuff tying in with the general centipede idea future admin here VV did not think i would need to put a cw on this but this genuinely made me feel bluuuuuugh and yucky so uh. CW on talk about bugs and vague talk of infestations because the admin tried to make a hc on why ragatha is scared of centipedes in particular (admin realizes their phobia of bugs is worse than they thought by the end of writing it they just thought they had arachnophobia LMAO) not even going to bother to tag this

i think its centipedes specifically that ragatha doesnt like. shes okay with spiders, shes fine with flies, hell shes okay witih silverfish (which arguably are just as gross if not grosser than centipedes). its something about centipedes in specific she hates. maybe its the legs. its gotta be the legs

or maybe theres something else? honestly i can see her getting her little fear of the things from a prank by jax gone terribly wrong, or perhaps even an in house adventure

or maybe she experienced something with them in her real life that, despite her losing her memories, she fears the bug down to her very core. something that shook her so deeply, engraining itself into her psyche, enough to carry on even after losing everything that once made her her when she put on the headset

okay jokes aside, originally i was going to go on a tangent about how that maybe her fear came from a really bad IHA.. but now that i think about it, the idea of her going through something in her real life makes more sense. plus as much as i write about jax putting centipedes in her room i dont think he actually did... but what i have cooking in my brain far exceeds the cruelty jax would dare dish out

i dont know about you but infestations can quickly instill a fear in you. i would know personally because when i was younger roaches and silverfish were common in my house hold, especially during wetter times of the year. also crickets. and woop the admin hates all three of those bugs, deeply. can you imagine going into the bathroom as a small child, only to get up and see a roach as big as your hand just chilling in the toilet bowl. do you know what that does to a person

cue that one post where op said they were taking a dump and they poked a weird spot on their wall only to watch in horror as a hoard of silverfish started spilling out of it

genuine fear of mine i hate silverfish kid me used to avoid the bathroom because of them

so anyways with the power of my self projection, im going to apply the same idea to ragatha. maybe she lived somewhere where centipedes were common. sure they might not have been the huge gnarly ones that we all think of when we hear about these things, but i think even the smaller ones would do her in after enough time. could be a large amount of house centipedes but as stated above, it would probably drive you insane after you see enough of them for long enough

How do you come up with the compositions for your comic pages? They look soooooo 👌

short answer is: i hardcore wing it

long answer: i have a very hard time visualizing things in my head. i go into something knowing the list of things i want to communicate and try to construct something thats aesthetically pleasing while accomplishing those goals. i personally think that its very good for me: i never feel bad for not reaching some insane standard in my head, because theres no standard in there. i just ask myself if i checked all the boxes on my list and if the page(s) look good, and if i did im satisfied!

as for page composition itself, thumbnailing is a super important part of the process for me. it helps me lay out not just the panels, but also the speech bubbles. never ever ever design a page and think you can add the speech bubbles wherever theres negative space: a comic is just as much words as it is art; treat them as equals.

i like to do thumbnails in batches (at least to the end of a scene) so i know how things flow together and i can ensure that the scene ends at the end of a page, and what pages are on an even or odd page (this informs the placement of page turns, which are very important when it comes to comics. theyre one of the few bits of control a comic artist has over their reader: the reader can turn the page whenever instead of having media happen At them as an a show/podcast. The reader controls the story and its flow in a sense. however, page turns reef control back from the reader and force them to engage with the author on their terms: you may get to control WHEN you see what comes next, but you do not get an inclination as to what that is. you allow them to subconsciously build up the the change/shift in space/jump in time in their head as a scene ends, or the suspense of what could be on the next page if your scene is dramatic. very important both for doing shocking scenes, but also for differentiate between soft and hard scene transitions.)

im also very careful to minmax the number of panels i need to execute a scene. use the minimum number of panels to communicate the most information possible. when i was first learning to comic way back in my syrup steals days, i had to teach myseld to not clutter a page with smaller panels (this was an especially frequent issue with eye panels. i looved having a small panel at the corner of a larger one just showing a characters' eyes reacting. while effective in small doses, this clutters up your pages like crazy). you have to be comfortable leaving things implied and trusting your audience will get it.

i also do not fuck around with establishing shots. even a lot of professional comic artists will only use them at the beginning of a scene and typically its just one big wide shot, which works for movies where scenes are in motion (motion inherently implies space better than a still image), but not so much for comics. i think its both more engaging and informative to microdose on establishing shots at all times. one establishing shot will never be enough to describe where characters are fully. i think its good to get in the habit of treating environments like characters themselves: you want everyone to see every angle of your oc? do that with your environments. it both breaks up the monotony/prevents you from shot-reverse-shot-ing, and also provides a lot of visual information about the space a character is in (and gives lots of opportunities to foreshadow!). this is especially important to do in action scenes: it is so damn easy to lose where a character is in a fight scene, to the point where it just becomes visual noise. you NEED the space characters are in to be well-established before and during a hectic scene, or readers will get lost and be unable to fill in the gap.

of course you need to be efficient here as well: minmax your panels! do establishing shots while characters are talking! explore the space in interesting ways even when something not that visually interesting is going on!

really, the constant dynamic establishment of location, minmaxxing of panels, and equal treatment of panels and speech bubbles are what i think are the most important things when it comes to page layout. this sort of became an Angs Guide To Comicking lol, but i tihnk its useful information. thank you for asking!!

long story short its a murder mystery novel with rich people getting killed and incredibly insane women. <3 its a fascinating metanarrative exploring the love at the core of every writer/reader relationship, and the different aspects of truth. 10/10 stories that haunt you forever

ok sorry heres a longer more detailed introduction because im really bad at not rambling when it comes to umineko. umineko no naku koro ni, or umineko when they cry is a mystery visual novel written by ryukishi07. the first part (the question arcs) and the second and last part (the answer arcs) are both available on steam! the 07thmod adds the stellar ps3 voice acting and sprites. theres also a very good manga adaptation but it requires some digging lets say hehe

the story focuses on a wealthy japanese family, the ushiromiya, gathering on their private island for the annual family conference to discuss the future of the family's fortune. the children of the now dying head, kinzo ushiromiya, are all struggling financially and desperately need kinzo's legendary ten tons of gold, rumored to have been gifted a witch named beatrice. a typhoon suddenly traps everyone on the island, and the family and the servants start dying in impossible occult fashions, seemingly following a mysterious epitaph. the culprit, who keeps sending taunting letters daring the family to solve the riddle, claims to be the golden witch beatrice...

umineko is an open letter to the mystery genre and stories as a whole, with 'and then there where none' by christie being a huge reference. dante's inferno is also used as a metaphor all throughout the story!

its difficult to say more because first : umineko is really fucking long, approximatively 150 hours. its an incredibly rich story packed with fascinating characters and it is 100% worth it but its not exactly accessible. the story is aware of that, and while it will challenge you, it will always do it in a caring way. it wants you to succeed, it begs you to acknowledge it and interact with its narrative, in an almost intimate way. and its for that reason that a more detailed summary wouldnt do it justice.

it also tackles a lot of sensitive subjects, albeit in a very raw and empathetic way. ryukishi07 worked as a civil servant and social issues such as generational abuse and trauma are recurring themes in his work. umineko can be emotionally taxing to read but imo this only goes to show how masterful its execution is.

its a strictly linear, kinetic visual novel, so theres isnt anything that could be qualified as gameplay, but saying theres no player interaction would also be incorrect. its often described as a 'sound novel' by fans as music and sound effects are a crucial part of umineko!

ok i realize how much ive written already god im sorry. tldr umineko very good it fundamentally broke and repaired something in me i will never ever recover. without love it cannot be seen

Things to Do - Alex G. I associate this song largely with Lan Xichen and post canon in particular. This lyric in particular drives me insane /pos "The calculator will make the same mistakes Yeah, I see it in its face" The lyrics in gen I think just really hit the spot for Lan Xichen.
