Okay, okay, so, to get the easy stuff out the way:

I unfortunately made another hasty post, I didn't elaborate enough, that's definitely on me.

In my defense, it's 2:30am, I need to be up in five hours at the latest, and I saw the fifth post hating on jegulus and/or other fun parts of the fandom that I genuinely cannot find anything objectively problematic about.

I got pissed.

I tagged my post, and I agree that I further fueled the discourse.

This has been something that I've done before, unfortunately. I'm used to thinking of tags as part of screaming into the void, I'll be sure to erase them after this.

But as you said, it's normal for there to be discourse in fandom.

And honestly, that's what I usually do. Ignore it. Like I do with a lot of things I don't agree with on the internet.

I don't remember contributing to this whole ordeal before tbh, and I've been here for a decent amount of time.

But I got so ticked off, I wanted to get it off my chest for once.

Lost my grip there, but I honestly didn't think too deeply about it.

Anyway, yes, yes, obviously it's not entirely made up. We have the HP series, aka the source material, in which we do see quite a bit of Remus and Sirius.

I was more referring to the fact that every single other character in the marauders era, is, in fact, made up.

It's undeniable that, despite the bits and pieces we've heard throughout the books, we can't possibly have any sort of concrete understanding of how these characters were during their Hogwarts days, before the war.

Not only because the bits and pieces don't in any way make up a whole picture, but also because some of them might've been entirely unreliable.

So these characters; younger Remus and Sirius, as well as James, Peter, Lily, Regulus etc etc etc, have more or less been crafted on very arbitrary ideas.

They are made up, and very rarely reconcilable to their adult counterparts, which makes sense from several standpoints. (E.g. their canon characters have been severely beaten down and traumatized. AUs take place in entirely different settings; the context changes entirely, and so do the characters)

Now, as for the nazi allegory, I assume you're referring to a) morons who are glorifying the death eater tattoo (jesus christ), or b) the 'Slytherin Skittles'?

In b's case, I'd wager it started with Regulus and the potential to explore the Black Family dynamics, which then escalated to giving him his own friend group and creating entertaining dynamics between them.

However, I genuinely do not see the harm in this.

It hardly matters that they're canonically deaths eaters, or that they were most likely blood supremacists and horrible people; or whatever else could've been going on with them.

They were so barely mentioned in the actual story. Doesn't matter what effect their existence had on the story and how it served the narrative, because they were barely ever directly there.

We know next to nothing for fact. So it's next to impossible for most people to care for their actions in canon, and just see them as blank canvases.

I can't really fault them for that.

People project whatever they want on characters that are firmly established and thoroughly explored; characters that are borderline non-existent are free real estate.

And yes, changes can totally be problematic.

A prime example is definitely the hyperfeminization of Sirius, to make wolfstar fit the classic heteronormativity that plagues queer ships.

As for the romanticization of abusive romance tropes, I honestly have never seen it.

I mean, I hear people complaining about it, but I swear to fuck, it feels like you guys are fighting ghosts sometimes 😭

Either it's a part of the fandom I've somehow steered clear of, despite being balls deep in it, or some people are exaggerating, which isn't out of the realm of possibility, but I kind of doubt that's the case.

As for toxic masculinity, again, I literally haven't seen it. Hand to my heart, scout's honour, I have not.

Hyperfeminization? Definitely.

Toxic masculinity? Macho men? Written in any context that's not challenging it, and is promoting it? Nope.

Representation is important, and that was the other part my post was based on.

I've seen people hate on the liberties others have taken to explore gender through these characters, which ticked me off even more.

And this is coming from a cis individual, who doesn't really fuck with he/they Sirius, they/them James, etc etc.

I don't think that there's any harm in people creating/enjoying content that is representative of their struggles/experiences with gender (or any other part of life).

Usually this hate, from what I've seen, comes from people who prefer sticking to the canon part of this whole story.

But I physically can't sit here and list off every problematic thing that has happened in this fandom. I don't have the energy. And that's not what the post is about anyway)

This is meant to be fun. This is meant to be a break from real life stress.

It's not meant to leave you exhausted because you're too busy apologizing about not taking something too seriously, or defending your ship preferences.

In the end, however, I obviously get what you're saying. There are harmful changes that deserve to be pointed out.

But I never said that they didn't. Calling out the notions that are inherently problematic when perpetuated is important.

Constructive criticism is welcome. It's crucial. It only adds, it deepens people's understanding of media and brings attention to problematic aspects of certain interpretations.

That's not what I was referencing in my original post; at least, not intentionally.

I was talking about how so many people love to mindlessly complain about things they don't like, without actually bringing up any substantial points.

The only goal is to tear other people down.

As we've agreed, some of these changes are problematic.

But so is the way some people convey their disagreements.

Some of y'all use your complaints about new character developments to also hide your general prejudice against something.

Like, there's no need to get this heated over genderfluid Sirius.

In this particular instance, it's because the general concept of the 'new model' is pretty mainstream, so it's hard to avoid it. So I know that I'm being a bit unfair when I say, 'ignore it'

Ignoring it is rarely easy though, no matter how mainstream or minor.

It should be, because logically this is all fictional and it doesn't matter if someone dislikes your OTP, or if you think someone's hc is painfully unrealistic.

But we can't help it. It's impossible to care about how fictional something is when it means so much to us.

And seeing something antithetical to our interpretation can feel like some sort of personal attack, even when it's really not.

Part of it also stems from how, when you see fifty other people throwing in their two cents, you also want to.

Because it's a base instinct to want to be heard.

All that said, ignoring it, despite the circumstances, is often the best way to go, because a lot of the time it can be irrational.

Hating on someone because they don't like your ship can be irrational.

Starting a fight over someone's differing interpretation of a character can be irrational.

Think critically before you speak, and be careful when phrasing your points.

Being respectful is crucial, and if you're not getting the same courtesy, then stepping back is the smarter choice.

I'm still working on always maintaining these things myself.

I've been doing a bang-on job, broadly speaking.

I had a slight moment of weakness earlier :P

(For those wondering, I took the og post down. It wasn't anything tragic, I just said that most people who complain about the fandom's toxicity actively contribute to it when they hate on stuff others enjoy.

Hello all

First off, I want to apologize for the abrupt hiatus I took. I'll be the first to say I shouldn't have been constantly scheduling stories like that. In a way it was a ploy to try to get me energized and continue writing; as someone who's always planned things out, it seemed like the thing to do. Well, this time it didn't work out and I ended up driving myself into the biggest burnout hole I've ever been in. Combined with that was the stresses of the job I had. The work environment was INSANELY toxic, to the point I had to quit back in March. My boss made me choose between seeing my brother - who is a marine - off the day before he set out to sea or keeping my job. Of course, you can guess which I chose. With the state of the world, my brother could very well die out there; that day could have been the last I'll ever see him, if we're being realistic. That added onto the mistreatment I was facing concerning my disability and I was OUT. I've felt so much better these last couple months. Not everything is peachy keen, but I'm mentally and emotionally better now. My physical well-being has taken its toll due to the work they had me do (which they weren't supposed to, but what's done is done), but I'll cope. All I know is that I really want to get back into writing again. But this time I won't be planning things ahead or setting strict, near impossible deadlines for myself. For once I'm going to be nice and easy on myself and not be a perfectionist, lol. The fact that I've made the decision to pursue my dream career as a librarian (very nervous, haha!) will really force me to be gentle with myself and take my time writing. Again, I'm really sorry for leaving y'all hanging for so long. There will be more stories soon, the top of the agenda being the conclusion to my Beach Episode mini series. It'll have been a year since I started it next month (June), so I hope y'all are ready for more summertime shenanigans! In the meantime, I'll try and post some past pieces I've yet to post here. Given the current events of Chapter 7 in Twst, I hope you'll enjoy them! And one other thing: I'd like to introduce y'all to a certain project that's been in the works for almost two years now. A good few of you expressed interest in my characters in the past, so for those who don't mind dragging out the box of tissues, I welcome you to this story. It is a slow burn - a sorta one-sided enemies to lovers arc (the enemies part being the one-sided bit). I hope you'll join me for the ride. Who knows, if this becomes popular, I might just create a silly little crossover story featuring this au and the canon; a more light-hearted fan fair for those who will not be joining us. I do understand you all need context on Persayis and her pairing with Lilia before continuing, however. So, over the course of this week, maybe a bit this weekend, I'll be posting installments of her story via that presentation I mentioned earlier. You'll be the first to see it outside of some friends of mine, so I'm a tad nervous, but I hope you'll like it. In and out of Twst, Persayis is one of the best characters I've ever written. She's the favorite child right now, haha! Like the AU, Persy's story is Chapter 7 levels of dark, so be prepared for that if you're going to dive in. For those who love angst, you might want to stick around for this one. That is all I'll say for the time being. As I said, I'll be taking it easy on myself, so no strict deadlines. Do you do scenarios or headcanons? If so, how many characters can we request for scenarios or headcanons? Would you do the same prompt with different characters? Can we request for gender neutral reader? Are there any topics you won't do like rape, suicide, etc? Do you do poly ships x reader? Would you mind if we request for Alternate Universes or Aus like AU where the character lives happily? Would you mind if the request is suggestive, implied sex, or mentioned sex but no explicit sex? Would you do NSFW requests? For Baldur's Gate 3 requests, would you mind if we don't specify the race/class to leave it ambiguous or if we ask specify the race/class like human/healer? What kinks would you accept for requests? Thank you in advance!

The specific format I will write in is not really decided, I usually just start writing and see where it takes me. I would love to do multiple characters for the same prompt, but the characters I will right for as of right now are very limited simply because I have not yet familiarized myself with their character. Currently I will write for Gale (BG3), Arthur Morgan and Charles Smith (RDR2), and Harvey (Stardew Valley.)

If you request gender neutral reader I can try my best, but if you want a smutty story with gn reader it would get difficult. I am open to doing AFAB gn reader for smut, so the reader would have fem body parts but would be referred to with they/them pronouns. If you wanted a fluffy piece that doesn't require the descriptions of certain body parts, the reader will not be specified as AFAB and could be imagined with male features. If you would like a work around to this, I will take requests that specify the 'reader' or OC you describe, which I would be open to doing gn and possibly male readers.

The things that are strict no's for me are not really clear, but I can list a few that I know I will never do. I will never write for rape/noncon, suicide, self harm, or anything along those lines. As I go on, I will make it clear what I will/won't write as requests come in.

The only poly ship I am open to doing right now is Arthur x Charles x reader. I would love to do other pairings in the future, but I only have the experience of this ship right now. However, I am up to trying pretty much anything! If you have an idea for a poly ship that you would like me to try and write, I can certainly attempt.

I love AUs, and I am a huge fix it fic writer. I hate sad endings and I would absolutely love to write happy AUs. Other AUs are also welcome, including (but not limited to) soulmate AUs. I write smut, and I love doing it! Don't be afraid of sending smutty asks or requests. For BG3 requests, if you want an ambiguous reader, that's totally fine, but depending on the request I might need more details. For kinks, I don't plan on doing anything with scat or stuff like that, and I won't do noncon. Dubcon is iffy, I'm honestly not sure and it would depend on the context. Before I answer your question, I highly recommend you peruse the Fanlore Wiki; it's a good place for new people to learn about fandom terms and history, so check it out if you need further clarification, as my answers are based on my understanding of each of the things you're asking about from being in TOO many fandoms for TOO many years, LOL.

I'm not going to go into everything, since fandom is SO huge and there's so much about it that I can't cover it all, hence the link to Fanlore, so here are immediate answers to some of your questions:

Drabble: A fic that's exactly 100 words

A 221b Ficlet: A fanfiction exclusive to the multiple variants of Holmesian fandoms that's exactly 221 words long, and the VERY last word of the fic starts with "b".

Ficlet: A short story, usually under 1,000 words but can be a little more.

Oneshot / vignette: A short, single chapter "scene" fic, essentially a story covering a missing scene or an out-of-context situation. In a similar vein, there's Two-Shots, which is basically a oneshot but from two different perspectives (ie. First chapter is situation from character A's POV, and Chapter 2 is from Character B's situation).

Podfic: An audiobook of a fanfiction. If you prefer to listen to stories, rather than read them, there are a tonne of amazing podficcers recording stories in multiple fandoms.

Five and One (and variations of): A story that depicts "Five times that Character [verb] [insert situation here] and one time [insert contradicting situation here]". It's basically 6 one-shots in a single story that has the last "one time" situation be a feel-good FINALLY ending. Some authors split them up into single chapters per situation, and others write the whole story as a single chapter.

Meta / Metafic: An essay or story based on analysing a piece of media. The Fic version expands upon a theory within a given fandom so that the theory fits into the narrative of the show.

WIP: Acronym for "Work In Progress", which is an unfinished published story. Some authors "write as they post" while others finish multiple chapters prior to posting them, but only post chapters one at a time on a scheduled basis, which keeps people coming back to the story until the end. The latter USUALLY guarantees a full-story inevitably being posted, so it is the more preferred type of WIP.

Short Story: a story under about 10,000 words

Novella: a story between 20 and 50K words

Novel: Anything over 50K words. I think past a certain number (100K?) it becomes an Epic, but I'm not 100 on it. Google says it's a story that spans multiple "books" and time periods, so I'm not sure.

This one honestly gets tricky and holds a lot of nuance depending on the ship. All platonic relationships are fine, so I'm going to answer in the context of romantic relationships:

As a general rule, we do not allow significant age gaps where the older one knew the younger one as a minor. And since grooming and all forms of abuse are not allowed, none of the pairings should contain any of those elements. Unfortunately something like (canonverse) Henry/Owens would contain something like that given that Henry is a prisoner in Hawkins Lab (even as an adult), where Owens works. An AU or a different backstory could change that, but if you have a firmer idea of what you want to do, it would be easier for mods to answer your question. Also, given the fact that Henry is a major villain and murderer, just keep in mind people may not want to work with that content.

Something like Stopper is a really gray area too, so we just ask that you do not include any elements of them knowing each other earlier on.

Sorry we don't have a more definitive answer for this, but these two ships particularly are a very gray area that could have some banned elements and we would really need more details.

Would Eärendil have come to meet Elwing?

Would Ulmo's "the true hope of the Noldor lieth in the West and cometh from the Sea" still stand?

Turgon did send out ships to the 'uttermost' West to search for Valinor and ask for help, to no avail. Even if adult-Eärendil went out on his own as the others seeking the aid of the Valar, would he still succeed? Would we have everyone's favorite twins, a self-sacrificing voyage to Valinor, a War of Wrath, the changing of the world, the Ban lifted, a Númenor and from there basically everything noteworthy that happens in the Third Age?

Idk. Not to take away agency in the context of the narrative OR defend the unsavory side of his character as it's presented to us but to me, Maeglin has Doom (the way Mandos likes to say it🙄) written all over his forehead. And, Ulmo did warn Turgon the curse of the Noldor will 'find him' too via treason in a very typically-ominous Ulmo speech (bless him).

So like Bilbo will stretch this out and ask, could that mean that if it hadn't been Maeglin, it would've been someone else/had to be? To get the same outcome? *sniffs*

Conclusion: Maeglin saved Middle-earth, actually (kidding-KIDDING don't waste your tomatoes on me).

But really I find it an interesting topic to ponder

I was debating to write descriptions of my top fave ships here but it got too long so I think it's best to put that in a different post.

I don't mind since I have a tendency to settle into niche popular ships (ie. LimGuda) and rare pairs (ie. XanLena, IdaTatsu, JuAli, KuroEne)

And two of these ships are OC ships (ie. XanLena, IdaTatsu)

XanLena is my Canon/OC ship with Xanxus and my KHR OC Selena (my beloved wife <3)

The WATGBS AU version of IdaTatsu is basically like an OC ship cuz it hinges entirely off my and my friends' writing. Charas yoinked from canon but rewritten/revamped entirely to make our own OC lore.

KuroEne perfectly aligns with my chara/ship tastes. I love ships that are deadly and passionate :)

With my interests I usually have a main ship (possibly 1 - 3 main ships) that are my main focus (who I'm mainly obsessed with), and then a bunch of multiships on the side (secondary focus for me)

So for me that'd be KuroEne (+ KonoEne and HaruTaka), and then my other ships and multiships. Since I'm a 9/6 main/enthusiast

As I said, as long as the ship isn't boring, painfully mid, and/or bland, I am open to multiships of my faves.

I tend to ship my top fave charas together as long as they have an interesting dynamic.

KuroEne are my top 2s so that's a given for me

Me: OOO good question. I imagine he visited the general vicinity she was in and Ene who was probably going through public spaces' cyber worlds, sees him and ends up jumping from electronic devices to chase after him in the city. Because he looks like Konoha and she can't afford to have the opportunity escape her. So, just as he intended, Kuroha sets up a meeting on purpose by letting Ene follow him to a secluded place where they can talk, just the two of them.

Ene: (I swear he went this way...?)

F: Oooohhhhh. Iirc, Ene can hop onto any devices that as a Wi-fi connection right?

Me: Yeahhh I think so! So I imagined she just jumps to electronic devices/screens to follow him while he heads to a secluded place. After their initial meeting, he has her transfer into his phone. (If he has the resources to have an entire underground lab built, then he can get a phone)

Me: Honestly forget when Shintaro joined the MekaDan. As for Kuroha/Saeru, I think events in my AU happen prior to August 15th to allow more time for chara interactions in general. Imo he spends 1 - 2 years with Ene to maximize the length of the “game” as much as possible

He's literally the only KagePro man (other than Konoha and Haruka) that doesn't look basic af to me. I'm not even into fictional men but Kuroha and Konoha are the hottest/most attractive KagePro men, I'm dying on this hill.

Most of the MekaDan members are teens. Kuroha and Konoha are also the only adult-age ikemen type charas and I generally prefer adult charas and/or casts cuz it's more comfortable for me. Just a personal preference.

Me: Just want to add to this scenario but I just imagined Ene sitting on the bed, and Kuroha getting on top of the bed to sit right in front of her. Ene just narrows her eyes at him and tilts her head with a confused expression when she spots all the snakes still sitting on his shoulders and wrapped around his body. Honestly it reminds me of Sidu’s Outer Science Kuroha illust in her .dsd/V artbook, where he’s sitting smirking while surrounded by morbillion snakes. He seems to be able to make these little snakes obey him. Or they just flock to him. She’s in the heart of the snake’s nest. The den of the beast.

When Ene sees all the snakes on him, she just goes like, “Can’t you send them away before we do it?” And Kuroha just goes like, “Don’t worry, little bunny, I was just getting to that. They’ll just get in the way, anyways.” And he lets them slither off elsewhere. And then he asks, “There. Is that better?”

Ene breathes a sigh of relief and goes like, “That’s much better!” She crosses her arms and huffs in tsundere fashion, “I’m not particularly a fan of snakes…” And Kuroha just laughs. Ene goes like, “What’s so funny?” And Kuroha’s just like, “Oh, plenty. Another bold faced lie. How amusing.”

“I mean… You know who I am. I’m the Snake of Clearing Eyes. And Konoha is the Snake of Awakening Eyes. Considering your infatuation, and the fact that you’re doing this with me… we both know that isn’t true. You could keep up that front and fool Konoha with it, but not me. Wouldn’t it be better if you were more honest? I’m just telling you this in advance for the long run.”

Honestly, Kuroha’s whole scheme in my KuroEne AU reminds me of Kama trying to corrupt Ritsuka (FGO) and “make them fall into the flames of depravity (Kama’s own flames)” by tempting them with carnal pleasures and the promises to be able to fulfill any of their desires. Kama wanted to make Ritsuka theirs and give them infinite love in order to sate them completely and utterly.

He then says, “I understand you’re feeling worried, dear rabbit, but… I’ll be sure to make this pleasurable for you. Tell me what your desires are.” (^-^)

Before he leans in to kiss her, he says, “When you fall into the abyss, I'll be there to catch you.”

The abyss could refer to his end goal plan → Him killing everyone at the end of a Route on August 15th, and the Kagerou Daze swallowing them.

So sorry for the delay on this! Had another AU come up so me and my partner were full force ahead on that and these updates got sidelined, plus I had a week of vacation that interrupted everything. I can’t promise a prompt two weeks for the next one (since classes have started up again), but I'll do my best! I know it's short, but I'll make it up to y'all soon. No warnings, just strangely fluffy violence and the best, funniest line of dialogue in the entire movie made funnier by this new context. Enjoy!

Zac didn't really want to sleep. 

It probably helped that no matter how hard he tried he couldn't, so he found himself sitting on the stump in their makeshift camp long after Emily had gone to sleep.

“What do you think I should do?” Zac turned to his outstretched hand where Lou had not-so-gracefully plopped himself down. He was beyond thankful that the chameleon hadn't been washed away in the river, and was overjoyed when Lou had climbed up to his usual perch on his shoulder after Emily had laid down to sleep.

He needed the advice.

Lou stared back at him with wide, disbelieving eyes, gesturing out around them at the forest with one of his front legs.

“You're right. It is everything I've ever wanted, but…” Zac trailed off, the darkness between the trees becoming impossibly darker as a shiver of fear ran through him. “What if he's right?”

Lou stared at him, annoyed and unimpressed.

“I know…” Zac heaved a heavy sigh, his friend’s gaze turning a little smug. “He has been wrong about everything else.”

The glare Lou shot Zac was a clear and slightly exasperated, That’s what I’ve been saying.

“You've gotten me this far.” Sighing again, Zac had to acknowledge that Lou really did seem to always know better than him. And all the wonderful things he’d seen, heard, and experienced so far with Emily would never have happened if Lou hadn’t encouraged him to leave the tower in the first place.

Lou grinned, still smug. Zac laughed a little as he then stuck his tongue out, distaste obvious.

“Yeah, believe me, I know you don't like Brennan.” Zac rolled his eyes. If he knew anything about Lou, it was his hatred for Brennan. Lou had spent the better part of the last couple years mocking him whenever he got the chance. “You've made that very clear. But that doesn't mean he's completely wrong…”

Lou shook his head, climbing back up to Zac’s shoulder with exaggeratedly slow steps. When Zac turned to ask him what was wrong, he saw the challenge in his friend’s eyes and caved immediately.

Lou is right. I can't just turn around and head home now.

“Okay.” Zac sighed, putting his hands up in defense. “Okay, you're right. We’ll go see the lanterns, and figure things out from there.”

He still didn't want to sleep, but he did feel a little more confident in himself now.

Emily awoke quickly to the sharp prick in the back of her mind of being watched. She rolled over and blinked her eyes open, only to find Sir Murphy standing directly overtop of her with a feral grin and a brandished sword.

“Well, I hope you’re here to apologize.” She yawned dismissively, before rolling over to go back to sleep. He really didn't scare her in the slightest.

It was an enraged shout from above her that had her waking up fully, rolling to the side as his sword stabbed down into the ground where she’d been lying. “What the fuck are you on about?!” 

Emily grinned as she popped up to her feet, glancing around and sighing in relief as Zac wasn't nearby. He was safe then, for now. “You’re quite rude, you know. For a knight. I thought you guys were all about manners.”

Murph swung the blade high, Emily easily ducking underneath it. “You’re not worthy of such consideration.”

“Whatever you say, dude.” Her attitude clearly irritated him to no end, his anger making his attacks wild and quite easy for the experienced thief to dodge. Their fight came to an abrupt halt, however, when a voice interrupted them from behind.

“Emily!” Zac froze in his tracks when he saw the knight, holding a handful of berries he’d been forging for ever since the sun came up. Emily turned to him, more confused than anything.

“Did you even sleep?!” She yelled, Murph staring at the two of them.

“Kind of!” Zac offered sheepishly, Emily frowning. “I wake up early every morning, though. That's not new.”

“Oh great. You're a morning person.”

Murph huffed loudly and waved his sword up in the air over his head to get the attention of the two, who stopped bickering to turn to him, annoyed. “I'm still here!”

“Yeah, well, that’s your choice.” Emily scoffed and started to turn away, not managing to hide her grin in time as Murph exploded, “No it is not!” 

“Can you cut it out?!” Zac cut in, setting down the fruit in his hands on the stump he’d sat on before getting between the two of them. “I need her, okay? I've got to see the lanterns!”

“The… what?” Murph lowered his sword a little, careful not to aim it at Zac. He had no idea who this guy was, and didn’t want to hurt him by accident. 

Or, well. If he kept interrupting his attempts to catch Emily, maybe it would get violent.

“Are both of you crazy?”

“I didn't come this far just to have to head back now.” Zac spread his arms out protectively, Emily sticking her tongue out at the knight over her friend’s shoulder. “And she's my guide, so if you want to arrest her or whatever it is, you're going to have to wait!”

Murph deadpanned. “Wait?”

“Boy’s got a point.” Emily shrugged, grinning wide. She lounged an arm over one of Zac’s shoulders, leaning forward onto him. “This is a super important thing for him, and I'm the only one who can help him. So if you want me, you'll have to wait.”

Seeing that Murph wasn’t willing to budge, Zac offered, “You two can go back to whatever weird chase thing you're doing after I see them, okay?” 

“I am not going to aid a fugitive!” 

Murph really wasn’t having it. He was this close to catching her, and now he had to wait a full day before he could do that because some guy wanted to see the festival?

Zac frowned, looking sideways at Emily before letting it morph into a childish pout as he turned back to Murph. “Well, also, you know, it is also… kind of my birthday.”

The three stared at each other in a deadlock for a long moment, Zac trying really hard not to give in to the knight’s cold stare before the latter suddenly heaved a loud, pissed-off sigh.

“Okay, fine!” Murph sheathed his sword, fuming. “But just until you see the lanterns!”

Zac and Emily turned to each other with a loud cheer, her pulling him in for a hug as Murph stood nearby with a scowl. Lou, who had watched this entire exchange from Zac’s shoulder, turned to grin at Murph—who scowled harder.

“Oh, what are you looking at?”

gonna use this as a jumping off point if you don't mind...

this is SO TRUE and i also need some people to put down the "king steve" label and stigma. like i get it and i'm not trying to pick a fight but i gotta be honest, y'all are the ones i'm talking about when i say this fandom lacks media literacy!!

there's something really important about learning to distinguish between what characters are saying and what is the truth. and think about WHY they are saying what they say, and their motivations and the context in which they're speaking!!!

for example, robin's little "mr. funny, mr. cool, god you were SUCH an asshole" rant? we shouldn't be taking that at face value! we come to understand later that this was her projecting her jealousy about tammy, it's not necessarily true to steve genuinely being an asshole. she is a jealous teenage girl utilizing a device we commonly refer to as HYPERBOLE.

same thing with the way eddie talks about "king steve"! at a point when he! doesn't! know! steve! yet! he later admits that he was wrong about steve!! SO WHY DOES THIS FANDOM CLING SO HARD TO THE IDEA THAT STEVE IS AN IMMATURE BULLY ASSHOLE? WHEN WE CONSTANTLY SEE PROOF THAT THIS IS THE OPPOSITE OF REALITY? (i've heard that the eddie book confirms that the baskeball team won't bully people in front of steve because he'd shut it down. he's a sweetheart and a goofball, he's not shoving people into lockers!)

anyway i've drifted from the original point of the post, but yeah! steve is allowed to be pretty! and that doesn't make him bad! he's allowed to look nice and take pride in his appearance, and even help others with finding their own confidence. there are several stories that i have absolutely LOVED where steve does shave his head, but i agree with some of the tags i saw - this often is a point of catharsis in an imagined post-s5 au where he is seeking to start over. but in normal context? let steve express himself!! be so fucking for real his friends would not be so mean to him all the goddamn time!

there's a difference between gentle friendly ribbing and having the whole party just actually bully steve in a meanspirited way, and i don't love the trend of fics i see that drift more towards the second tack. do you know what i mean?

and fuck it let me throw another peeve in the ring - i love the 'steve has bad parents' trope as much as the next girl but i gotta be honest, there's a pretty big tendency to write steve as if he has never had present parents or as if they are just cartoonishly evil, and i don't get it? that imo is a little bit lazy. it's so much more interesting to explore a dynamic relationship where his parents are maybe a bit distant or uptight but still care about him in their own way, and how the stuff he goes through in canon can impact that and add tension.

anyway i'm gonna stop now, cuz i also know that a lot of these fics are maybe coming from 14 year olds and i absolutely would have considered them shakespeare when i was 14. i'm not trying to bully any children here i just think it's time to challenge! and think of the more interesting story! add some nuance! analyze your media, don't just read the same fic remixed for the millionth time!

i think it’s interesting that so many people jump to steve shaving off his hair as a sign of growth, when i think what we’ve actually seen in canon is much more steve letting his hair grow out, and get messier as he’s evolved and grown out of what people expect him to be.

sure, it still fits within popular styles, but it is different to the way steve in s1 styled his hair, and i think steve having the freedom to grow out his hair and highlight it, etc, says more than steve just shaving it all off. the way his hair has changed through the seasons aligns with the ways steve’s developed, and tried to find himself outside of high school. and shaving it all off, usually in the midst of a mental health spiral, feels more like a step back, and, to me, comes across as this self-hatred punishment, as opposed to healthy growth.

Past tense, he'd used. The implication that they no longer were was clear as day.

It should have struck him as wrong, as an ignorant idea but...

His eyes wandered back to the glass behind them, taking in the two children, his miraculously living son and the small boy in his arms, curled up in a pitiful nest of old sheets on the ground.

Taking in his eldest, sitting on the floor, a wide berth between himself and his younger brother, nursing the wound on his forearm.
