Miguel has many talents, but drawing is not one of them. He has an indispensable need for perfectionism, so anything he was automatically good at frustrated him massively. 

Since you've shared your knack for drawing with him, things have somewhat progressed between you both. Your relationship wasn't definite as of yet, but it was like the wedge between you two dissipated, like there was no longer a divide. You both spoke more freely with each other as if there was now a common understanding, like there were no secrets, well, still some secrets.

So now, when you'd hang out, you kept your doodle pad away, preferring to immerse yourself in conversation with Miguel rather than sketch your time away. He noticed how you were more present, more attentive while you were with him, and though he'd never admit it aloud, it made his heart feel full for you to want to spend time with him.

"You got your uh- notepad?" he asks, changing the subject of today's events at HQ.

"Always," you smile, head tilting to the side as if to understand him better. "Why'd you ask?"

"I want to try something," he sheepishly grins, his demeanour coltish as he avoids your gaze. "Can I borrow it?"

You playfully squint your eyes as you watch his expression soften. "I suppose,"

"And a pencil?" he adds, his tone sweet and juvenile as he extends a hand. 

You weren't completely certain about what he had planned, but you had an idea.

"Okay, turn around a bit... no, towards me... now, put your arm up... yeah, on the table... no, your elbow. Mierda," (shit) he chuckles, shaking his head. "Put that there," he grins, adjusting you, moving you around in your chair. "Now, relax," his smile widens as he gazes at you across the table. "Hermosa," (beautiful) muttering under his breath.

His grin slowly fades as the lead touches the paper, looking stumped as he peeks at you over the notepad. He softly sighs as he begins to sketch you, glancing up at you every few seconds, sometimes looking at you more than necessary. 

"How's it looking?" you sweetly ask, trying not to move too much.

"It's uh- it's," he pauses, masking the unsatisfied look on his face. "Good," he shrugs, his tone unconvincing as he continues to draw you.

He didn't have to say anything for you to know what he was thinking. His expressions were clear enough, even if he thought he hid them well. 

"Can't wait to see it," you reassure, your eyes soften as they meet his. 

He sighs heavily as he guides the pencil over the paper, flick-like strokes around the page as if he's sketching your hair. "It's terrible, cariño," (honey) he huffs, visibly frustrated as he drops the pad to the table. "Sorry,"

"No, no, don't be," you grin, standing from your seat, joining him on his side of the table. "Can I?" you ask, reaching for the pencil tightly gripped within his fist.

He nods, extending it towards you with a wry smile.

"Why you being so hard on yourself? It looks good," you partially lie. 

It wasn't an awful drawing. It just wasn't great. You hated the idea of lying to Miguel, but surely this one time would be okay, a small white lie to avoid hurting his feelings. For someone who doesn't often do anything artistic and creative, it was actually a pretty solid effort. And although he wasn't one to care for art, you could tell this meant a lot to him, like he was trying to impress you or show another side to himself, a softer side even. 

You could tell that he was frustrated in his attempts, so you reassured him, placing your warm palm over his forearm. "I think it looks great, Miguel," you smile. "Would it be okay if I help you?" you question, being careful with your wording to avoid the possibility of upsetting him.

"Go ahead," he nods, scooting his chair closer to you, resting the side of his head in his hand like he was getting comfortable to watch you. "I'm sure," he says, answering the question you had in mind, noticing the quizzical look in your eyes.

"Okay, so," you grin, looking at him. "I think it's the angle. It makes the proportions look funny, and it makes my nose look enormous," you playfully scold, earning you a soft laugh from Miguel. "But, you did the eyes well- wait a second, why are my lips so detailed?" you coyly smile, slowly turning to face him.

He doesn't answer. He shrugs, avoiding your gaze.

"Okay, okay, I'll drop it," you say, hiding your smile behind your hair, shielding the side of your face with it.

"Don't hide it," he mumbles, extending a hand, reaching for your hair and brushing it behind your ear. He smiles, noticing the blush form over your cheeks. "Show me how to improve it,"

So you did. You sat close together, inches apart as you made minor adjustments to the sketch, adding shading and highlights as Miguel admired the process, watching the drawing come to life. His eyes dart between you and the finished sketch of you on the page, a sweet, sincere smile spreading across his lips. "Hermosa," (beautiful) he whispers. "I'm gonna frame it."

hopefully whatever happens after this will help alicia and lloyds relationship feel more balanced (rn its like fine but it definitely doesnt carry the same weight as llovier to me, simply bc we dont really see alicia and lloyd relying on each other in the same way javier and lloyd do - idk how else to put this but the "power balance" in their relationship feels different than lloviers if that makes sense, bc so often lloyd is doing things for alicia and that's just It yknow?)

anyway back to the top! we've got some really really nice panels of lloyd i just really like these in general,,, i like when he looks determined and serious and focused,,, it is cute

also explicitly mentioning this while also showing alicia IN the unfrozen time bubble with lloyd DOES make me worry a lil bit,,, what if smth happens,,, does fate still affect them when Most of the time across the world is frozen?? im scared,,, but also excited for more alicia lloyd scenes i can explain why in a bit,,, but also scared,,,

tyrant alicia looks cool as ever tho holy shit im VERY glad that the artist gave her a full set of armor and everything, so often we see fantasy stylized women's armor that really doesn't protect anything at all but alicia's armor is really nice and clean i like it,,,

also another panel of lloyd being cringe and javier being embarrassed,,, they're so stupid i love them . LET LLOYD BE CRINGE LET HIM BE FREE

also thinking a LOT about these two panels bc,,, not only bc i really like how he looks in the second panel here, but also,,, well as i was reading this i hadnt realized that lloyd would be going off by HIMSELF to the mountains,,, i thought javier would go with him (bc he always does,,,)

i talked abt this when i reacted on twitter but like. javier asks if he's going by himself and lloyd goes "yeah it's fine" and javier doesn't question it, we don't see him objecting or anything,,, bc of course, lloyd will stay safe. that's what he says, so that's what'll be true. javier is also perfectly aware that lloyd can't be harmed by monsters, he's a sword master and has his singing. so the knight lets him go, bc this is a lloyd with a plan, and javier trusts his lord. but also it seems like javier doesnt really realize what exactly it is that lloyd is subjecting himself too. idk if he realizes that every time lloyd freezes time THATS whats freezing his heart; all the knight knows is that lloyd is dying, but the engineer has a solution so surely it's okay (it's not, lloyd is DYING IN THE COLD). jesus fuck

like i imagine if javier realized what exactly it is thats causing lloyd to Die is the exact stuff he's doing to stop fate and save everyone, he'd object immediately and try to find something else,,, but lloyd you fucking MARTYR u dont even say anything abt it and u GO OFF ALONE IN THE COLD WHAT ARE DOING WHAT ARE YOU COOKING. okay i was gonna end the post there but i scrolled back up to review and realized i forgot to actually explain why i am excited for more alicia lloyd scenes so that's gonna go here now i guess LMFAOO

i really really hope that alicia and lloyd have a closer, more quiet moment to talk about their respective lives and history with losing loved ones and feeling isolated as a result. i WAS gonna talk abt that in a dedicated alicia post but i guess itll make a cameo here too lol

bc if u think abt it, suho and alicia both went through very very devastating losses. they both lost the lives of the people who cared for them most, and in very very tragic ways (suho's parents committed, and alicia's parents were slaughtered / alicia's brothers put her in a 'kill or be killed' situation). it's really unfortunate, it's life-altering, and it follows you,,, and then the isolation that comes after that makes it all even worse.

of course, we see suho very explicitly going through throes of isolation through endless work, endless school, and the sheer struggle to just survive to the next day by himself, with no family to support him. obviously, we don't see alicia explicitly having this experience, but i think it'd be reasonable to believe that after the death of her family,,, it was just her. she lost her parents and her brothers, and now she's the only one with the magentano name, and you can't exactly have an empty mantle now can you?

she probably didn't really have anyone to talk to about this. probably just a bunch of old coots on that board of nobles, who have to help her with this "being queen" thing, u cant exactly talk abt ur trauma to people who are technically working for u, who care more abt their status in the kingdom than anything else. and at such a young age, too... like yeah she's surrounded by people technically, but how many people around her actually care for HER, and not for her new status as crown princess? and then as queen? like no wonder tyrant alicia comes to be because of a betrayal from kyle, no wonder she's worried abt letting lloyd into her heart. she's probably been worried about betrayal from a loved one all her life bc of what her brothers did,,, that must be so isolating, and lonely.

so yes, i think alicia probably went through a long bout of isolation, too. and i think alicia and lloyd should Talk about it and have a heart to heart and go "jesus fuck we went through it,,, but we have found people we can rely on. and isn't that wonderful,,," and then alilloyd will have a wonderful leg to stand on yay

i WOULD go on longer about alicia in this rant but i wanted to save it for the post i was planning,,, i couldn't help myself this time though, bc it seemed relevant LOL

seeing you having self doubts makes me realize that as an artist you never stop having them no matter your level. so im here to say that everytime you post, im in awe. i stop and stare at whatever you post. the way you use colour.... your lines and composition..... i have spent ten minutes looking at your flight rising skins, a thing i know nothing of. you've made me want to learn how to use colours better. even if you became solely an oc posting artist, i would still follow you. even if you only posted obscure media or studies, i would follow you. i would still follow you whatever you posted bc i absolutely adore your art (and your takes but we are talking abt art rn)

how do you get people to take notice of your commissions? ive been at this for five or six years now and can count the number of comms ive gotten on one hand lmao

WELL this is always rly hard for me to answer bc it really depends on So Much Shit... 😭

like for one thing a lot of it is genuinely luck. like. luck in terms of who sees your work and wants to buy it at the same time mostly? BUT ALSO, this can be helped a bit by How you increase your reach--reach is very important if u wanna sell comms.

ive found what worked for me is drawing fanart, which i know feels like a cop-out to a lotta ppl but it honestly works! and by attracting attention with fanart ive been able to get more eyes on my work and increase the chances of getting a bite :]

another factor is unfortunately following, but that relates to ^ reach and attention on ur work so i dont feel like i need to rly dive into that again x'D

customer service is important too imo. like, how nice and pleasant and easy u are to work with :3 ive worked hard to be really approachable and easy to work with so i think this plays into things. i want ppl to wanna work with me again yknow? if the experience is pleasant then theyre more likely to return <3

one last thing is that like...hmm how do i word this. the appeal of ur art does matter to Some degree i think, but not as much as i think ppl assume? like ok. there are ppl with insanely detailed and intricate work that looks incredible like painterly masterpieces but they are Unable to get commissions bc of some other factor like lack of reach or something. then there are ppl with really simplistic art styles that may seem significantly "less quality" than the painterly masterpieces from the other person but they get commissions out the wazoo. so while i think you do have to have some level of appeal with your art, i dont think its the Only Thing that matters bc like i mentioned ppl dont always care abt how the art looks in terms of "quality" PLUS art is very subjective and one thing could look insanely good to one person but it looks like shit to someone else yknow? so i dont like to place a lot of emphasis on this.

in relation to ^ this, i think popularity matters to Some degree sometimes. i do know ppl who have kind of "lower-quality" (i hate saying that) work compared to others but still get an insane amt of comms bc theyre way more popular. ppl want to say they own a piece by this popular artist yknow? if that makes sense??? so just reiterating its not always about how the art looks, sometimes its other stuff in addition to it

uhhhhh gosh. i hope Any of this was helpful, like i said this is always an extremely difficult question for me to answer bc again things that work for me do not work for everyone because we make different things and are different people! i consider myself EXTREMELY lucky to be able to get the amount of comms i do (i do this for a living; commissions are my Only income which is why i put so much emphasis on them) and i know a lot of people cannot achieve this sorta thing and thats rly sad but its not always completely in our control :(

pls talk more abt the stupid art trend of only drawing neutral faced white women no matter what its something that has been eating away at me as i see the community of artists growing ever more. it frustrates me so much cause like??? is that really the extent of your creativity? some... nameless attractive woman?

I'm really not an art historian or even an extremely analytical person, so take all I'm about to say with a grain of salt, it truly is just my off-the-cuff assumptions.

First of all I wanna clarify I don't think painting a pretty girl for the sake of painting a pretty girl is inherently creatively bankrupt, I'd be a hypocrite if I said that. Plus there are many many examples of artists having a POINT when choosing that subject matter and I don't wanna be throwing them under the bus. If you know a Pretty Girl(tm) piece of art that you think actually has a message that is enhanced by the usage of that sort of face, assume I'm not talking about them.

What really bugs me is the sheer prevalence of it EVERYWHERE and how incredibly unexamined it often gets from both the artists themselves and the audience observing.

because here's the thing, I'm pretty sure I know why they're choosing a perfume-ad-type woman as their subject. Over a very very long time that specific type of face has become the Neutral Beautiful Subject in art. A: it's a human face, which our monkey brains immediately respond to. Humans see a human face, we instinctual pay attention, that's just kinda how we work. B: it's a young unblemished face with no indications of personality or personal agency or identity that could impact the viewer's attraction, and it is assumed the viewer finds the face attractive. C: It's a white feminine face/form that has an extremely long and complicated history that I won't be able to adequately layout here (again, not a historian) but is firmly entrenched in western society as being, of all the bodies, the most synonymous with beauty and art.

So from the artist's perspective, this is a very very useful subject matter because we, as an audience, have been trained not to read into it as the Neutral Beautiful Subject Matter. The assumption is that we will like looking at it, but it won't distract too much from what else the artist is doing, the technical skill they're putting in or the unusual medium or whatEVER it is they wanna flex. That specific face is visual shorthand for beauty, and we're not intended to read into it beyond that.

But that's, like.... bullshit?

It's BULLshit that we are supposed to just accept that face as the neutral symbol of beauty. It's not neutral!!!! It's EXTREMELY political!!!!!! When you make that face the subject matter of your art with NO indication that we are supposed to take ANYthing else away from it, then you, as an artist, are in fact making a statement that you are seemingly completely unaware that you are making.

All SORTS of very very heavy social things go into that seemingly passive face. The dehumanization, sexualization, and commodification of women. The deification of white femininity. The fear of age, of disability, of injury, of sexuality outside man-attracted-to-woman. The very idea that all of this could in any way, in any universe, be considered neutral.

And I don't think all the artists who create using this kind of face are rubbing their hands together going "nyehehehe, today I will support a lot of heinous cultural bullshit for profit nyehehehehe" Most of them just aren't looking at it past face value. Again, it's a useful device. It's largely popular, it will get you views and attention and as an artist myself I fucking GET IT man. I want money too. I have rent too.

But i'm just... tired. I'm tired of it.

I'm tired of how unquestioned it gets. Of how much it's rewarded.

I don't have anything else to add, I don't know how to fix any of it, just, augh.

1. are you named after anyone? No, fun fact my parents still hadn't chosen a name for me when we left the hospital! They chose my name pretty randomly from a baby book I think. My middle name's from some great aunt on my mum's side but I never knew her

2. when was the last time you cried? umm two weeks ago when i realised I was gonna have to submit my final essay a day late

3. do you have kids? um NO at this age??? Maybe down the track but yk, depends on the partner/circumstances/general state of the world I guess

5. what sports do you play/have you played? I've been playing soccer nearly 10 years now and it's one of my favourite things, I also did gymnastics, AFL and swimming when I was a kid.

I am extremely sympathetic to like, marxism isn't a moral system its a critique of the world that emerges out of the logics of that world itself. and yeah the problem with the bourgouise isn't that they're greedy but also it definitly is a theory of social change I'm sure there was some bullshit he said afterwards i kinda clock out after abt 5 words into a sentence but he definitely said "men make their own history". So the like kinda subjective question of like 'how much can you handle your shit? is all of this just intolerable for u to the point you turn up dead somewhere' becomes politically relevant and like yeah! Questions of self-actualisation, thriving artistic communitys, comradeship as a mutually-cultivating political relationship actually are politically important and they have attendant questions around 'what do we want from life?' 'what does caring for each other look like?' 'is it possible to face daily open assaults and not attack back' become pertinent political questions.

I think of this Fanon passage in relation to what a lot of left-leninists I've always really respected in relation to their statements on the Palestinian resistance and i cant refind the article right now so take it with a grain of salt but one of those genuinely decently internationalist 4th international type guys had an article where they basically suggest like? More patience like thjey have full support for palestinian liberation, they say no nonsense about the sanctity of israeli soldiers lives and they dont foster bullshit hope in the capacity of the israeli working class but there's still a like 'this isnt going to work, therefore its a display of fanatcism not a reasonable response to the situation' But like, how could you not go to the first person who gave you a gun and let you fight against the imperialist war machine that has kept people in a fucking open air concentration camp for years? This just is what people in intolerable situations do - they fight back. And they did spark and international movement! And a global revoloution rly is the only way to make sure apartheid never exists, to make sure the brutality of the prison is gone forever. It's like they've already assumed a kind of narrow-minded nationalism in palestinian freedom fighters instead of one orientated towards a more global transformation.

People say that an artstyle tells alot about the artist, and I think its true! My anatomy isn't that sorted out and so is my coloring style, I'm having trouble trying to choose, so instead, I just go carefree. I'd if use muted then vibrant, vibrant then muted, it's just that: I'm having trouble choosing.

But, I hate how I can't convey my thoughts and feelings into my art, it's as if I just drew something and that's that. It's bland, I'm trying but I hope people can tell, even artists have their flaws or atleast in their own eyes. I want to convey but I don't know how.

Anyways, I just wanna say that your art really tells alot bout you! The way to draw lanky body's, gestural poses, and hair! I just wanna say that I love the way you convey your thoughts and process in a way that I can't, it's what I truly love about your art! conveying thoughts and feelings comes with practice and observation, i don't think there could ever be a way of telling you how to do it since it is very subjective and personal and i don't know you well enough for that.. but maybe you're thinking too much about it? it's not exactly a strict process and the more you intellectualize it the worse it gets. I struggle with this too and I'm not quite there either. I'm happy to hear you think that abt my art though that's very nice of you:") I wouldn't have thought it "says a lot about me" and I'm not sure if there's any correlation between like,, artstyle and someone's personality to be honest but i might be wrong what do i know

Abt the part I use the word "painful", i was talking abt that if the reason behind the gf mention was revealed to be just a way of trying to "shut up" that "gay theories" it would be painful bc we know is a thing that happens in some medias. I know is just a reaaally low possibility, but I wanted to mention that too bc we know it happens in some stories.

I mentioned that possibility bc I really like jwcc queer rep but I always try to remind myself that it's still a show so they're not immune to censure and bad stuff that happen in this kinda of media. I remind myself this so it's not that painful if happens, that is way I used that word, but I do know it isn't that probable in jwct case! (and yeah, like u I don't think queer rep in jwcc is painful or anything)

Totally agree that the subtext thing is really subjective, so I was talking more abt the fact that the ppl in production probably knows that fans see a lot a "gay subtext" on him than saying that I think that the subtext is canon. I never had a headcanon for Ben through, my whole anxiety was just bc of knowing all this context and not knowing if the whole gf reveal will go to a chill thing or not.

i hear you on being fearful about censorship 😭 even if you knew about the production of the show and the people involved with it (which ... it's not like i have some sort of intimate understanding of everything that goes on, i just follow a lot of the team members on social media ^_^;) i think that's a valid thing to be scared of. media has made a lot of progress in terms of queer rep in the last decade, especially in the realm of animated TV shows primarily aimed towards kids/families, but that doesn't mean artists don't still have to fight for the inclusion of that rep. i wasn't super into she-ra, but i do vaguely remember its creator ND stevenson talking about how much he had to negotiate with dreamworks just to make catradora a thing (if someone can find me a source on that that would be incredibly appreciated), and that was as recently as 2020 (if we're measuring by when SPOP's final season aired). that was the same year JWCC premiered, and two years before yasammy would be made official. a lot of doors had to be opened to allow JWCC/CT to be as gay as it is, basically, and that status isn't always going to be guaranteed.

but if i can ease your mind any further: JWCC S5 received a lot of backlash online, and even one of JWCT's early access IMDB clips drew scrutiny from anti-woke conservative types because it dared to portray a diverse cast of characters. that didn't stop a large portion of the crew from digging their heels in and defending their show, though! plus, yasammy are still together, and JWCT shows no signs of rolling back on their queer rep for the sake of appeasing a certain group of people.

so, to go back to ben having a girlfriend ... i very much doubt that such a choice was made out of malice, or to "shut up" any theories about him being gay (generally speaking or in the "i, as a man, exclusively like other men" way). but like you said yourself, there was already a veryyyyy low possibility of that happening.

I keep bumping into people online claiming that Nimona comic was like soo terrible compared to the movie, that it was "poorly plotted" and "ugly" art-wise, and what the fuck is up with that. These people sound like they hadn't read the comic at all, and even if they did and didn't like it, that's Alright but nobody gives you the right to harass the novel fans who say they liked the comic book ending more or that the "happily ever aftering" disappointed them. The movie is Very different and I myself like the book ending because there's so few good tragedies that give me this feeling of "sometimes you just have to accept the good and the bad and move on". I really wish people understood the importance of these stories instead of claiming that everyone who didn't enjoy the happily ever after is "homophobic" (ahem I'm queer and trans and this movie made me feel seen, and I still will come back to the book more often than the movie, unless I'm in a very specific mood for a happily ever after that I Wish these characters could have in the book, but they COULDN'T. That's the fucking point.)

It's not just about the way the movie ends, it's about the way it differs from the original book and the message that book had. That's what some people didn't like. I myself think it's great to have two messages with these characters. We can appreciate the tragedy of the novel (TRAGEDIES ARE IMPORTANT AND CATHARTIC AND NOT JUST EMOTIONAL SADISM) and we can smile at the movie's ending which is what we all Want but realistically right now we Can't have. Both have their meaning to different people. Both are important. I love both in different ways. I'm happy the movie came out. I just wish some movie fans would stop ruining the fun for the book fans by calling the novel really unjustified words. It means so much to us and it found a lot of us in very dark times, and to be impolite for a second, if I had some wee punk tell me that the book sucks and is pointlessly sad and the art is bad while they were in one room with me and not online, I would start a physical fight and not regret it at all. The book was my suppressed anger relief and my quiet subtly queer childhood when I was 14. Many people will have the movie as their openly queer childhood. But if any of you think it's okay to disrespect what others hold dear because you don't enjoy it or dislike the art, You Suck As A Person. Grow The Fuck Up.

Another thing, ND started making Nimona as a webcomic, in art school, as a way to share feelings he didn't know how to deal with. He was a regular artist telling his story. I repeat. HE WAS A REGULAR ARTIST. Like many people on this goddamn website. It's okay to dislike things, but calling Nimona the comic poorly plotted or ugly is how you kill the young indie artists' desire to share their personal stories. Styles are subjective, feelings are messy, and if you don't like either of those things and want to be super mean abt it, first of all you're really limiting yourself and will miss so many wonderful and thoughtful works, and secondly IT'S OKAY TO JUST QUIETLY WALK AWAY. And also, excuse you, this book is what gave us the movie. Maybe don't show this level of disrespect, if you can't show respect?

Edit: i got very into the respect for imperfect endings thing But i think it's important to say that the book ending actually doesn't fit the description of tragedy, it's just how I view it in my relation to Nimona's anger, but it's actually very hopeful and the characters Do find love and things are looking up for them in the book! It's not a typical happily ever after but that doesn't mean it's just pure suffering. We have the word bittersweet for that

my favorite coldflash episode is probably infantino street. it felt like the writers showing us a glimpse of what could've been in an almost painful way but i just love watching them work together and it was a beautiful farewell to a beloved character that acknowledged how important these two were for each other. we could've had it all... but at least we'll always have infantino street

my favorite barry episode is a tie between 'the runaway dinosaur' and 'the last temptation of barry allen' (tho i haven't watched the show beyond s6 yet so always subject to change)

my favorite len episode... hm. for the flash it's probably 'going rogue' bc i love when he gets to be an asshole and gets away w it 😂 i mean, i know it's controversial but i also love 'doomworld' bc its so fun to see wentworth give us his best disney villain acting 😆 i actually hate most of s1 of legends (big l for me that this is the only season my fave character is in and i can barely stand to watch it...) so if i had to pick one it'd probably be 'white knights' just bc it's low stakes fun watching len be his little con-artist self

Well, I have lots so say (also sorry for not responding earlier and sorry if there is misspelling or some sentences don't make sense). I'm still working on making all the designs so sorry if everything isnt really completed. Also this isn't really shown in the drawing I posted but their hands are sort of like Mona Lisa's in 2012.

Leo is 17, 6'2, and her pronouns are she/him, and she is trans fem (later on in the story which YES I CHANGED THIS bc it fits better for her), and she is based of a red-eared slider turtle.

Raph is 18, 6'6, he/him, bi, and he is based off of a alligator snapping turtle.

Donnie is 16, 5'11, they/them, and they are based off of a spiny softshell turtle. (They are also autistic)

Mikey is 15, 6'3, any pronouns, pan, and he is based off a mix of a ornate box turtle and a normal box turtle. (He also has ADHD)

I also have made my own version of Venus/jennika/Kirby and her name is Artimisa. (I don't really have much for her yet) All I have figured out for her is that she is 16, 6'2, and her pronouns are she/her.

Splinter is present but I haven't really made a design but I have some ideas in mind that I might draw soon.

I have made an idea for April and Casey. For April she would be 20-21, 5'4 (which is apparently the average height for women in the US), her pronouns are she/they, and she is lesbian. The turtles do meet April and I have a little idea how.

So April works at TCRI as a side job while she is at college and when she was walking home she accidentally discovered the turtles while they are trying to go back into the sewers. Donnie reacts by knocking her out (with brick or something idk) and they have to make her she doesn't tell anybody else about them so they bring her down into the sewers with them. That's all I have for that.

This April sketch was from a while ago and it's a pretty rough sketch so it's not that good 😭. I will draw an actually good sketch with colour soon for her and Casey.

I'm also thinking of names for my version/AU and my favorite idea is "Project Renaissance" which does need some explaining of their back story so I'm gonna do that as well.

TCRI would have little underground projects that were requested by the government and the general public didn't know about. One of these projects was trying to make mutate animals into anthropomorphic versions, the projects name being "project Renaissance" with the test subjects being named after Renaissance artists. Splinter is just one of the lab rats that the scientist name and Hamato Yoshi is one of the scientists working for TCRI on this project (I'm still figuring out the rest of that).

for coloring i think thats very much up to the person which is perhaps not what you really want to hear but :<

using myself as example i like warmer tones (reds, oranges, warm greys) and tend to stay within that, and dont use highly saturated colors. other artists may cross all over the wheel and use more or less saturation its just a matter of finding color groups you like i think.

i do not use a lot of actual teaching when it comes to colors i just look at it until i think it looks okay--i tend to use a lot of overlay layers--but theres loads of tutorials for coloring that have actual theory behind them which are super neat!!

also to say that not all art has to have color--a lot of artists i like deal in just greyscale which only necessitates an understanding of value :y

art is super subjective and even then something you might really like that another artist does isnt your cup of tea to create even if you like how it looks. its all about testing and experimenting and finding what you like i think!!

8) Do you take inspiration from real life? If so how do you incorporate it into your fics? sometimes... i take my experiences of universal feelings (like the things i do when im VERY happy or VERY sad and then apply them to characters). characters like natsume (like. loners. etc.) are characters i relate to a lot so i can cherry pick little experiences ive had and fashion them to fit them. i never use the specific way i was abused (tmi) in my writing ever but the feelings that come from it are pretty common after being hurt, so i like to use those. ig long story short i keep the emotional part of my own experiences but discard the specifics.

14) What is something you wrote in a fic that you are hoping readers picked up on but you don't know if they did? And/or, what is something that you were excited that readers did pick up on? im primarily thinking abt all things rancid and delicate rn bc i think that one garnered a lot of attention compared to my other ga fics and also since it was one i put a lot of artistic effort into...

anyway i was very lucky, especially for that fic, that i had a couple of readers who would comment long reviews, discussing p much everything that stood out to them or even quoting passages they liked, so i could see what people were paying special attention to. when im writing i like to do extended metaphors or running themes that keep threads connected. in atrad specifically, there was the heart thing, though that was pretty obvious.

i think in subjectives, i want to imply that theres feelings OTHER than hatred between natsume and mikan because. well. its a romance fic. so i was happy to see comments pointing out that, even tho there was nothing specifically alluding to it, my readers were noticing that there was smth more there! lovely <3

(not in a fic but i wrote a line once that was supposed to be a metaphor i was very proud of but when my mom read it she took it seriously and was like ???? THAT REALLY HAPPENED? and idk if its bc she just didnt catch on or if the metaphor wasnt as well-written as i would have liked.)

16) Do you have a method for getting characters to sound/feel in character? i rly wish i had a more concrete way to put this...

i think its really crucial to have an understanding of the character: what they want, what they fear, their relationships with others, etc--both in the fic and in canon. try to keep the important features that stand out in the characters so they resemble the canon version. (for mikan, for example, that tends to be her optimism, friendliness, and kindness, but also her quick temper and occasionally unreasonable nature and for natsume, his impatience with most people, tendency to be curt and evasive, disillusionment with life in general, etc.)

its key not to stray from those more staple characteristics, even in au, but they can be stretched to fit a role (and this is just keeping them in character from the canon. sometimes ooc is the goal).

sometimes ill just stare at actual art from the manga, like a panel of natsume or mikan or somebody, and think abt lines of dialogue or certain actions, and i'll ask myself if i can see that character saying that or doing that. usually this method just makes me feel rly weird abt writing abt them at all, tho, so its more of a control method rather than some critical part of my process.

yeah ig its just understanding the character in canon and how those traits are reflected in ur fic and keeping those key traits consistent.
