#bruce wayne#jim gordon#*panelsandpages#batman#batman 1940#sarah essen#jim x sarah#jim x bruce#batgordon#brucejim#jimbruce#there’s something abt how deliberately gordon’s affection for batman seems to reflect an affair#how he stands as this point of tension between sarah and jim. how sarah can’t seem to stop resenting batman for how he pulls gordon away#from her and yet acknowledges that in the end gordon’s the one letting himself be dragged away#and the way it’s all so complicated by the fact sarah and jim’s own relationship begins as an affair#and it’s justified in their minds by this idea that they share smth barbara wouldn’t understand. that their duty to gotham#gives them a responsibility and a burden and a tragedy that they only find recognition of in one another#YET batman and gordon have that same understanding. that same responsibility and burden and duty and tragedy#and it’s apart from sarah#and while here she claims she can’t stand to see how batman reduces gordon#you can’t help but suspect that the reality is much *more* personal#and much more abt sarah’s own insecurities abt gordon finding someone to share gotham with that isn’t her#meta
