How after every game, win or lose, he comes to you with a small, sweet smile, and a warm hug, strong arms wrapping around your waist holding you close to him as a thank you for cheering him on the entire time, how every night when you two crawl into bed he holds you while he nestles his face into your shoulder knowing he can rest in your arms when your fingers comb through his hair, how he holds your face with the kindest expression gently wiping away every tear with his thumbs when you're crying with the sweetest hug after because he can't think of any better way to show you just how deeply he loves you. Tsukishima's arc is (kinda) subversive and I need to talk about it!!

Also known as: Tsukkiyama is so everything for me pt 3 (but it's not shipper-y, it's about canon)

Haikyuu!! is definitely a Shōnen Jump series, with great execution of old & gold tropes: the "light" and "darkness" double protagonists, multiple rivalries, training arcs and tournament arcs one after another etc. But Tsukishima Kei's character arc, specifically, kinda... breaks? and maybe even makes fun of the classics? (Which, if it is- very fitting for Tsukishima, huh)

You're probably familiar with "talk no jutsu" meme. In case you're not - it comes from the prequel to absolute banger series Boruto (I know this joke is overused. I like it, leave me alone), which involved its main character resolving so. many. troubled characters' arcs by leading them to light with his mid-battle speeches about hardships and hope and friends and trust, that people couldn't help but meme it. However, Naruto is indeed one of generation-defining sort of series, and as overused as it may be, this plot point creates many a powerful, emotional moments.

Haikyuu!!, of course, also does this. Having Hinata first blindly (literally and figuratively) trusting Kageyama, then (also literally and figuratively) grabbing Yachi's hand to help her take a step forward. Oh, also giving Asahi a thing or two to think about? All that jazz.

And I, personally, fully expected this to happen with Tsukishima. When the time comes, it will be mostly left to Hinata to, Idk, annoy him into character development I guess? This is shōnen, he's the "I can show you the world~" hero, that's just how it is, right?

Wrong.

We get the tense lead up. We get the flashback. We get the "Can ye help him, o protag-kun?" scene with Yamaguchi. And Hinata goes, basically: Uhhh... seems kinda like a you problem? 🤨 (Off-topic, but I l-o-v-e this as a Hinata character moment, too. This was maybe when I started legit liking him: realising how actually emotionally mature he is? The dude knows when it's not his time to get into someone else's mess, he sees the "do not enter" sign and is chill about it. I'm so sad this part of him gets overlooked so often)

The dialogue here is very simple, but very significant:

"Hinata, what would you say to Tsukki? Like you did to Kageyama and Yachi" <...> "What would you say to Tsukishima, Yamaguchi?"

This is where my theory that this is a little jab comes in - because in meta way, you can read this as, wouldn't it make more sense if the person he's connected to the most would be the one doing the talking? Not the random passerby protagonist like y'all like to do. But maybe I'm just weird. Even without any sort of meta reading though, this is still a great character writing.

Because yeah, why would Hinata talk to the guy? They don't even like each other. Hinata says it as it is: I have no idea what his deal is, there's nothing for me to say. They're also very different people, and whatever Hinata would say, honestly, is likely to not even resonate with Tsukishima. And that's not even accounting for the fact that Tsukishima might not listen to Hinata, at all. With all his defensive walls that Hinata is never shown to be invited inside or breaking through. But it's told to us ahead of this with visual language that Yamaguchi is.

Yes, I am talking about the headphones off while they walk together despite both being silent scene. Which seems a pretty obvious showcase of Kei's willingness to listen, if not him actually waiting for Yamaguchi to say what's on his mind.

And- of course it's him! If there's anyone there Tsukishima might allow himself to not build a front for, that would be the childhood friend who's known him since elementary school. Who knows him inside and out. Who knows why he's like this. With anyone else, it would be so easy to brush them off by a simple "You don't know what you're talking about, why do you even care". But... Yamaguchi knows. And Yamaguchi cares. Because that's his best friend. And Yamaguchi is the one person Tsukishima never just brushes off, actually, if you pay attention.

It had to be Hinata.

But in Haikyuu!!, it had to be Yamaguchi. To get Tsukishima Kei moving, it had to be his caring, supportive, strong-willed but not pushy, and very, very cool best friend.

P.S. For ppl who wanna say this type of rule-breaking isn't that uncommon nowadays, please also note Haikyuu!! did this in 2014, ie 10+ yrs ago.

"Y-You really didn't need to...!" "Please don't worry about me, I really don't need another sports sneakers, the one I already have is still in good condition!" Says Daichi holding up a pair of worn-out sneakers.

The truth is that he is not someone who has little money, the real problem is that he is a cheapskate, someone of the type who is stubborn about their own savings. He will only buy something new if it is already in a state of disintegration...💀

But you are here to change that! Always reassure him that everything is fine and that you really don't mind spending your own money just to see his happiness, as every penny is worth it.

By becoming more confident about this matter, Daichi will no longer worry about it as much and will try to be more relaxed about it.

For the team, it's as if you two were Karasuno's parents: Daichi being the responsible and sometimes strict father, and you being the cool and caring father who always gives the best gifts on holidays (see what I mean?)

You care about the team as much as Sawamura, as you were able to see up close the trajectory and evolution of everyone by his side.

So you always love to help everyone on the team if they are going through any difficulties.

Couldn't find a bus to take part in a match? In the same second you find one ten times better than the one they were planning to travel on. Is any gym equipment damaged? The next day you show up with a brand new one. Are they hungry after a long day of training? When you all leave school, you immediately go straight to a steakhouse, all expenses at your own expense, of course.

It's canon that Daichi is one of the characters with the biggest appetite in the series, so it's not an exaggeration to say that most of the things you give him as gifts are edible.

And as much as you can buy whatever food you want, he always preferred your homemade food.

The way you prepare each dish, always making them with the greatest care in the world, was certainly something that was worth much more to him than fancy and expensive things.

- kohane likes fantasy as a genre and especially appreciates intricate worldbuilding (i think shed like stuff like dungeon meshi and LOTR)

- she also likes yuri (popular hc i know snnsns) and i think shed like either cute and funny ones (like cant defy the lonely girl or kase san) or deeper, grounded series with themes of becoming who you truly are in spite of societys expectations (like run away with me girl)

He had been previously talking and walking amongst some other of the nekoma team, such as Yaku and Kai. Kept an eye out for when he saw you, which didn't take too long, much to his enjoyment. Without much of a word, he went to greet his lover, who hadn't noticed him just yet. "Looking for a volleyball captain?" wrapping an arm around the lovers' shoulders.

"Tetsuro!" You jumped but quickly swaped to a smile, "I was looking for you." Lover had explained, looking up at him while intertwining their hands together. Slowly started to walk around the open room.

"Here I am. Did you enjoy the show?" Hummed from his height, squeezed your hand lightly yet in a wholesome move. "You all did amazing out there." Praising the effort they had put in only made his grin widend a little further. "Thanks, lovey." Planting a kiss on the base of your hairline.

Haikyuu and it’s characters have such a special place in my heart. I should have watched the show sooner, but I am happy that I watched it back when I watched it.

I relate to the characters so much and can’t help but be inspired by them. Characters like Yamaguchi, Sugawara, Oikawa and Kenma all are characters that I desperately needed. Their characters teached me so many things.

Yamaguchi, who teached me to be more confident. He teached me that just because I am not as great at something as my friends, doesn’t mean that I’m useless and I can always find ways to improve.

Sugawara, who was ready to give his place as a starter setter to Kageyama, who is seen as a volleyball “genius” and “king”. Yet he was not bitter, but instead helped him. Sugawara showed Kageyama what he can do better, even though it meant that he himself wouldn’t be the strongest setter of the team anymore. Suga teached me that it’s more important to just help others out and push them to improve, instead of feeling jealousy. And sometimes what my friends need is someone to count on to help and support them.

Oikawa never got into nationals in high school, yet after time skip he’s playing in the olympics, his coach being the man who inspired him to become a setter! He didn’t make it as far in high school as some of the other characters, but he still made his dream come true.

And Kenma, the character who I relate the most. He was the one who truly pushed me. He is a lot like me, not the most athletic or social, rather playing video games, but easily bored if he falls into a full routine. He doesn’t play volleyball because he likes it, but rather because his friends do and it became a routine to him.

He sees the world like a game, but when the game is too easy, he becomes bored and depressed, yet there isn’t a reason for him to push himself to try harder, to take the harder path.

But when he is pushed into giving his all, forced to make an effort, he starts having fun. He learns that sometimes taking the harder path and actually making effort can make the end reward better, fun and more satisfying.

His story of learning to have fun while playing volleyball is something I relate to, both in volleyball and other hobbies. Volleyball was the first just a sport that I liked the most because it forces you into team play, but when I actually started playing seriously (or well, half seriously since I don’t play professionally), I noticed that it was more enjoyable to see my team win. Like Kenma, I don’t have the plans to become a professional player, but I will now continue playing it for fun.

Kenma clearly didn’t know fully what he liked and unlike everyone else he knew, volleyball didn’t immediately suck him in, but with time he learned to enjoy it.

This accidentally turned into a Kenma rant, but I don’t give a fuck. These characters teached me so much and make me actually fully push myself to do what I enjoy!

This is (partly) why Haikyuu is my favorite series and why I really needed it in my life. I don’t think I would be who I am if it wasn’t for the whole cast of characters inspiring me.

Solo Leveling Season 2 - Arise From The Shadows- Episode 10 Review - Let The Raid Mission Commence!

To be honest, if you’re going to introduce this many characters, at least put a text box on who is who because it’s hard to keep up! I get that they do announce the characters and the cast list on social media, but what about the people who don’t have an account? How will they know who is who? On top of that, the localized Japanese version of the anime gives the Japanese hunter different names, so it’s a hassle for me to look up their actual names on the Solo Leveling wiki.

The training session with the Korean and Japanese hunters was nice to see, but it’s mainly to show off some of their abilities. But like, I can sort of figure out that most of them are probably going to die and that the story wants to make it seem like the Korean S-rank Hunters are weak, but they’re probably the ones surviving the whole ordeal. The main highlight is the Jinwoo vs Goto sparring match. While the condition is that they both go all out, Goto actually does leave a cut on Jinwoo’s face, showing off his power. However, it does seem like Jinwoo was holding back, but correct me if I’m wrong. I wonder what sort of fighting they’ll show from the Japanese hunters later on.

I honestly liked that the 4th Jeju Raid Mission is gathering up all the hunters that Jinwoo previously worked with like Lee Joohee and Song Chiyul from Season 1, Go Myung-hwan and Park Heejin from the Red Gate arc, and the Strike Team from the A-Rank Dungeon arc. As an anime-only, I can tell that it’s a serious feat when everyone gathers for a big fight. It’s perfect for the climax of the second season!

However, Jinwoo doesn’t participate in the raid mission as he wants to focus on his family. People might criticize Jinwoo and the writer for this, but Jinwoo is not some American superhero with the “great power comes great responsibility” thing. His first and top priority has always been his family. Also, with his actions ever since obtaining the system, he had been questioning his humanity, so needing to be with his family is also his need of affirmation about it.

Also, the ants make me feel like the author was aspired by Hunter x Hunter’s Chimera Ant arc. I mean, there’s an Ant Queen and she gives birth to a humanoid Ant King who is probably the biggest threat to the Hunters. I just hope the creators of Solo Leveling aren’t being flagged for plagiarism because of this…

Okay, I looked at the voice cast for all the Japanese hunters shown in this episode and it’s a pretty crazy cast. I mentioned Goto and Hanekawa in a previous review, so I’ll skip them. The four that participating in the sparring match: Kenzo, Kanae, Minoru and Atsushi are voiced by Tomoaki Maeno (Hak from Yona of the Dawn), Yui Ishikawa (Mikasa Ackerman from Attack on Titan), Jun Kasama (Aran Ojiro from Haikyuu) and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Inosuke from Demon Slayer) respectively. The ice mage with the gas mask, Kei, is voiced by Tetsuya Kakihara (Natsu Dragneel from Fairy Tail) and the hooded man, Ippei, is voiced by Kent Ito (Goro from Oshi no Ko). Tatsumi, the glasses guy with Kenzo, is voiced by Chiharu Sawashiro who is known as Miyuki Sawashiro’s younger brother. Akari, the girl with the buns, is voiced by Nene Hieda, whom I am not too familiar with. Reiji, the man with the brown hair and the vice leader of the Japanese hunters is voiced by Yuya Uchida (Naoshi Usui from My Happy Marriage). The Ant Queen also got a well-known voice actress as Noriko Hidaka (Akane Tendo from Ranma 1/2). A lot of these characters have such big-named voice actors and the fact that they were casted for such minor roles means that Solo Leveling is obviously a big deal in terms of popularity. Like, would the production staff go out of their way to cast like seven big names if this anime wasn’t so popular?

Fun fact: this episode aired on March 8, which is Sung Jinwoo’s birthday! Also a crazy way to end an episode on the MC’s birthday by having the episode end on that bloody cliffhanger. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen! Let me know your thoughts about this episode!

kagakuro canon?

okay, this post will be a compilation of evidence and arguments on why i actually think kagami and kuroko is a canon pair.

disclaimer: they're not even my fav ship (it's midotaka), i'm really doing this cause i can't stop thinking about how canon it seems... (and cause it's fun)

right, so...let's start with the basics, shall we?

their relationship

well, i haven't watched many sports animes but kuroko no basket follows a classic plot that we all know:

two main protagonists that don't know each other enter a random and medium team, both with a goal. one is a prodigy and the other one is really bad at first sight but when combined with someone else they really show their potential.

yeah and in the end that "someone else" is mainly the other one, obviously. they always have that "we complete each other" talk and that's the whole plot.

we can see that in haikyuu, yes (and i've only watched a season and a half by pure pressure), but in knb we see that too.

kagami's the prodigy and kuroko is the "weak" one, their goal is to play against all of the members of the generation of miracles and win. they can only do that together, that's the start of everything!

in knb's case the plot is much more interesting than that, but it is still what the anime revolves around.

them being together is what makes them strong. they need each other to get in their best forms and they will stay together. kagami's the light and kuroko's the shadow. they're complementary.

i'm sorry, but that's a gay plot. - really, i've only watched sports animes with a canonically gay main characters, like sk8 the infinity and yuri! on ice, or with this fking sus idea that is litteraly the plot of the anime (i WILL say that it's even gayer than the gay ones. IT'S THE MAIN IDEA).

but that's only what i think, right? so let's proceed to actual arguments and evidence.

first things first...

them and the girls.

kuroko and kagami both show little to no interest in any girl in the anime, while all of the other seirin members and a lot of other characters do constantly.

momoi for example;

she's in love with kuroko and makes it pretty clear. on the other side, he also makes his disinterest clear, still treating her well cause he's a decent person, of course, but always letting her know he doesn't like her back.

in kagami's case, while every other seirin guy totally drools over her - even junpei, who has shown to have feelings towards riko - he almost ignores her existence. moreover, he's even judged by the others for 'not knowing how to treat girls' in one of their few interactions.

and you could say it's like aomine; momoi's even his type but he just doesn't like her. it's a normal thing. they care for each other and see one another like brothers, there's no romantic feelings. kagami and kuroko could just be the same towards her.

but that's why i have more arguments, obviously.

before that tho, there's alex too. there's nothing much to say since anyone would be uncomfortable in being kissed out of nowhere by someone in their 30s especially when youre a minor. and kagami does, even tho he's already used to it.

i just think it's weird for the author to make this much fan service towards her, making her be naked around his house and stuff, and make him, the main 'victim' of that fanservice inside the anime, be uncomfortable (even riko blushed when she kissed her).

we all know that it's not only "how americans are seen in japan", it's pure fanservice. it's already problematic. he isn't trying to make it less problematic by making kagami uncomfortable, that's just how kagami is.

the character's bible.

now we're starting to get somewhere.

for those who don't know, kuroko no basuke characte's bible is a book that contains canon data about the characters. we also have some interviews, with diferent questions that are answered by the characters.

one of those questions is what their types of girl is...

kuroko: gentle people

kagami: stable gir……person……

kise: a girl who won't tie him down

midorima: older

aomine: girls with big bust

murasakibara: tall girl (if taller than me, then forget it)

the only ones that dont especify gender, even tho asked for type of > girl < it's kuroko and kagami.

you may think midorima is included but actually not (still have my own headcanon ofc but)...

think of it like asking someone for their favorite type of fruit. "sour" is an ok anwer, you don't need to specify saying "sour fruit". but answering you like "sour food" instead it's another thing, it's weird... like you purposely said it to indirectly say you don't like fruit or you simply like all types of sour food.

it was a weid example but y'all understand my point, right?

it's even more weird since kagami was going to say girl, but hesitated. like...why? why would he hesitate and then change it to "person" for no fking reason? sorry, it's too sus for me.

ok. then there's the relationship pages. kuroko and kagami's (obviously) to be more specific.

momoi: girlfriend?

kise: friend

murasakibara: friend?

midorima: this person is difficult to deal with.

okay, this doesn't prove anything by itself, and as is writen "old partner" (wow i cried) in aomine on kuroko's one we know that this means partner as in basket of course.

also! don't mind the "girlfriend?" in momoi, she refers herself as kuroko's girlfriend (that's why it's there and with a question mark) but that's all. it's canon that he doesn't like her, like i said, and they don't end up together. (ofc it's okay if you ship them duh- i'm literally doing a whole blog on kagakuro, i'm not the one to judge)

i just think it's a great addition, i couldn't leave it out of here and it's also SO cute even platonicly, c'mon.

and it also adds to the idea that they "complete each other" as in the sports anime plot.

okay, we've seen a lot of stuff now, but let's go to the thing that actually made me wanna do this post...

i was rewatching knb normaly until this happened:

translation: "i know one! they're so cute as a couple."

at first, i just laughed and imediatly took this picture to show my friends how canon they are (as a joke at the time). i was using my computer to watch and for some reason i can't connect my netflix account on it, so i was watching in a pirated website.

in this types of site, the subtitles are often translated by fans and since they are made by non profecionals, they always have a lot of mistranslations and typos. some fans like to purposely chance the translations too to make it more funny in some situations.

so after a while i figured i HAD to know if it was real cause i didn't remember to have seen this at the first time i watched.

i even took notes of what episode that was to check later in my tv's netflix, in both my language and english subtitles... but i am impatient so i did my research.

also, there’s this scene in the middle of the seirin x yosen game where kagami says to kuroko: “besides, between my past with tatsuya and my future with you, it’s obvious which is more important” AND IT’S SO CUTE this scene lives in my mind rent free i love them so much even platonically-

Haikyuu Cooking Skills Tier List

Years ago I made this tier list for fun! But then I looked back on this tier list and realized I made a LOT of flaws on this so I deleted the original one and made a new one! Check it out!

Haikyuu Cooking Tier List (2nd Attempt- NEWLY UPDATED VERSION)

So now that I updated my tier list, I also updated my Headcannons. Like I said this is just for fun so it’s probably still not very accurate! Again it’s not serious and is just for fun.

The tier list also applies to BOTH cookers and bakers!

Now here are my personal headcannons:

As we all know in the timeskip, Osamu owns his own restaurant and Tendo is a famous chocolatier. So ofc they’re the amazing cooks and bakers!

Fukunaga in the timeskip is a comedian in his own restaurant so he’s definitely up there but I still think Osamu and Tendo would be the better cooks.

We saw a quick glance of Kiyoko in the kitchen and I can assume she is an AMAZING cook! I think she’s just lowkey good at everything TBH because she’s the IT girl who is athletic (from running and jumping hurtles), organized (obv since she’s a manager), beautiful (again obv), and skilled while cooking!

Kita could be a creative cook but because of his methodical character, I think he would prefer following recipes.

Akaashi is a great cook but he either is at work or is at Bokuto’s games the majority of the time so he just either prefers to make simple on-the-go recipes or ordering out. Obviously Onigiri Miya is his favorite and I think he makes every excuse just to see Osamu (they’re besties your honor)!

I really ended up changing Kageyama’s tier drastically because of another cooking tier like this! Since Kageyama and his sister really seem to take care of themselves, and I think both him and Miwa switch days on who cooks. It made so much more sense since when I thought about it because I don’t really see Kageyama’s parents around them.

I think since Sakusa is so close with Atsumu and the Inarizarki team, I don’t think he really ever has to cook. He just eats what Osamu and Kita makes like Atsumu does. He just offers to help clean up since he finds cleaning relaxing (compared to cooking).

Ushijima, Hirugami, Yaku, Semi, and Iwaizumi are so “career focused” and have their careers take up the majority of their lives so they really don’t think about cooking.

Daishou probably loathes cooking but does it on the days Mika is tired like a sweet husband should!

Kenma also probably hates cooking (since he canonically has a small appetite) and is probably too busy to cook the majority of the time (because HE HAS TOO MANY JOBS AHFJRA). But there are days he will do it just because he knows Kuroo will lecture him if he doesn’t eat.

The whole Nekoma team including Kenma probably meet up at Fukunaga’s comedy bar to eat and hang out with each other as a team weekly! I can imagine Kenma and Yamamoto telling Fukunaga how proud they are of him as their fellow second year.

Makki and Mattsun always order out, because both of them are either not the best cooks or are just too lazy to cook.

I literally cannot see Suna cook! I think he would also lowkey abuse the fact that Osamu is such a great cook (I mean I would too lowkey).

And you cannot tell me that Hinata and Lev wouldn’t burn the kitchen down together! Not to mention, the chaotic trio (Noya, Tanaka, and Yamamoto) probably burned the kitchen down at one point too.

Living for the Training Camp!!!

I spent the day being not productive in anything, so I only watched through episode 8 today, but I'M HAVING GREAT FUN, THANK YOU! The training camp is so fun! SO MANY CHARACTERS TO ENJOY. Also just fyi I saw that someone who commented on the last post isn't a fan of Haikyuu ships so, you know, just so everyone knows I do genuinely ship characters in this show. Sorry I guess?

Hinata is getting a little too overzealous here. When he ran into Asahi, I was like HONEY THAT MAN IS DOUBLE YOUR SIZE HE'S GOING TO CRUSH YOU (and that would crush him because he's a gentle soul). That being said, it was sort of disheartening to see no one believing in what he was saying and wanting to improve. Like, hey coach, isn't the whole point of a practice game to, you know, practice? Why not give it a shot? But whatever, I don't know anything about volleyball!

YEESH the fight between Kageyama and Hinata hurt a little. There are many things that I've gone into this show knowing about, but this wasn't one of them, so it caught me way off guard. I feel the worst for Yachi, honestly. It's like Tanaka said, the whole thing scared her pretty bad. THIS ISN'T WHAT MY DAUGHTER SIGNED UP FOR ACTUALLY. Oh and Hina's whole line about how he thought he found more than a partner, but a friend? Brb I'm dead. That one was like a bullet to the heart. Kageyama really hurt him.

I honestly love seeing everyone working so hard on new skills and wanting to improve. Asahi and his serves, Noya working on that fancy set (and the fact that they decided to practice together is feeding my little Asanoya heart- I fear they are my Karasuno favorites, closely followed by Tsukkiyama, WHICH WE'LL GET TO), and the attackers working on the synchronized attack were all really cool to see. I like being able to see them work and grow!

Bless their little country hearts for not being able to recognize what is and isn't the Tokyo tower. Hina baby, never change. Also KENMA!!!! MY BABY BOY!!!! And husband Kuroo! WOO! I LOVE TRAINING CAMP!

So many fuck up moments for Karasuno and I am wheezing. It's either laugh at them or die from secondhand embarrassment, and I choose laugh. Look at those boys run. Please tell me they win a practice match sometime during this week. They're killing me here.

I AM VERY HAPPY TO BE GETTING A TSUKKI ARC. He's a salty bitch but he's genuinely one of my favorites. His and Yamaguchi's friendship is really nice. His annoyance and reluctant bonding with Kuroo and Bokuto (BOKUTO!!!!!) is so fucking funny to me. Kuroo really knows how to get under people's skin and I enjoy watching it very much. ANYWAY. THE TSUKKI AND YAMAGUCHI FRIENDSHIP BACKSTORY IS JUST. UGH. Tsukki was genuinely a really sweet kid (especially to Yamaguchi) and he admired his brother so much, but that one lie just destroyed him and, seemingly, his enjoyment of volleyball. I think it says a lot that not only has Yamaguchi remained by Tsukki, but Tsukki has let him stay. If he wanted to get rid of Yamaguchi, I have no doubt that he could. But he doesn't, and I think it's because he does genuinely value their friendship. When Yamaguchi runs after him, he turns around and gives him his full attention. Even though Yamaguchi's words don't convince him to change his mind about volleyball, he clearly takes them to heart, hence why he approaches Kuroo, Bokuto, and Akaashi (mostly Kuroo and Bokuto but, you know, Akaashi is there). And he seems really pleased that Yamaguchi said something to him, based on his smile and calling him "really cool" (or badass in the English dub). So, you know, he clearly values Yamaguchi. This episode is one of the big reasons why, of all the childhood friend pairings (as platonic and romantic), Tsukki and Yamaguchi are my favorite. Also, it's my understanding that calling someone by their given name is an indication of closeness in Japanese culture, and Tsukki calls Yamaguchi "Tadashi" a lot (though to be fair, it seems like a lot of the guys on the volleyball team call each other by their first names, and almost everyone calls Daichi Daichi). The fact that their friendship could've been started with Tsukki insulting both the boys picking on Yamaguchi and Yamaguchi himself is kind of hilarious to me. But either way, their whole relationship (especially as children) is very sweet. Love them.

ANYWAY, THAT WAS A VERY LONG RAMBLE ABOUT TSUKKI AND YAMAGUCHI. I'm excited to see next episode with this new fire in Tsukishima. I'm also pretty sure this is going to be the episode with the Bokuto, Akaashi, and Hinata vs. Kuroo, Lev, and Tsukishima matchup, so I'm very much looking forward to that.

OH BY THE WAY. BEEN MEANING TO MENTION THIS ONE FOR THE PAST FIVE DAYS OR WHATEVER. What do you mean Coach Ukai's English VA is the same guy voicing Adam in Sk8 the Infinity? I HEARD HIM TALK AND I WAS LIKE "I know this motherfucker."

haikyuu rewatch s01e01

i've been itching to rewatch the series lately and a few years ago i did something similar for miraculous ladybug where i wrote up like a stream of consciousness/commentary post and made a gifset for each episode and i wanna try to do it again for haikyuu?? we'll see if i stay committed or not lol—gifsets per ep probably a lot more likely to continue than commentaries tbh, these things are long and not thought out so,

anyway let's start with episode 1, who wants to take bets on how many times i get teary-eyed?

ughhhhh how did i not know IMMEDIATELY my first time watching what a fucking banger of a show this would be. this opening scene is sooo aah. the voice over with the sounds of the balls and shoes, the actual content of the 'a tall tall wall' monologue, and then the visuals of just hinatas shoes stepping up to the line and then 'it was a view i could never see on my own' and the rest of the teams shoes step in??? FUCK

holyyyyy and bc im obsessed i know who is who based on their shoes in that lineup and after thir 'onigaishimasu' and they run onto the court they all run in at different speeds?? and like tanaka goes quick and kageyama bounces on his toes and tsukki is all like unenthusiastic?? what the fuCK bro

no one cares but my japanese is surprisingly better than when i first watched (at which time i knew nothing) and i can actually understand a few bits here and there without the subs

reading the occasional katakana in the background is fun too. mmmm i should try looking at og scans of the manga to see how the sound effects are intended to be read, ive heard the way furudate incorporates the characters into the action as the sound itself is really well done

let me tell you i had relatively low expectations for haikyu my very first time. i just wanted something easy to watch while i ate my lunch during the day, and i thought it would just be a predictable underdog story where hinata gets revenge for middle school. and i wasnt against that, i was relatively entertained this whole episode, then it gets to the end and reveals that kageyama has to be his teammate and i was like OH this is gonna be GOOD good. immediately have me hope and reassurance that the show knew what it was doing and wasnt gonna just be typical cliches etc

THIS IS A REWATCH REVIEW THIS IS MY SECOND TIME SEEING THE MOVIE

*cracks fingers* alright here we go i pulled out the laptop to write this review i have so much to say

this is my first rewatch of the movie and i think when i watched it the first time in the cinema i was just so hyped and happy to be watching it that i just wanted to enjoy it and i didnt really think about it too deeply you know? but now rewatching it lets me think about it more and kind of analyse it properly so :)

okay first of all !!! i spent the entirety of this movie either grinning ear to ear OR crying because i love it sm. and i do not exaggerate how much i fucking cried bc istg i would wipe the tears away and calm down and then start crying again the second the next scene started like it's not even funny

i adore the relationships between karasuno and nekoma so so much like it's so cool seeing the characters and their parallels and then also their rivals yk like how daichi and kuroo are both captains and they've got that whole thing going but then there's also the rivalry between kuroo and tsukishima!!! and it's the same with shoyo and kenma and then shoyo and inouka LIKE IDK I JUST ADORE IT

furudate writes relationships so wonderfully whether you choose to interpret them romantically or platically i just think they're all so deep and important and have so much depth and importance to the plot and the characters' own development and growth it's so lovely

so the relationships! first of all yamaguchi and tsukishima. we didn't see too much of them in this movie but the little bits we did i ADORED SO SO MUCH!!!! like tsukishima saying "he's someone who's going to surpass me" about yamaguchi OH MY GOD SO CUTE and then their little high five :((( i love them sm

tsukishima himself i just love a lot especially in this movie. he has one of the best growth arcs i've seen and it's so cool seeing how much he changed from the beginning to starting to join in more in s2 during the training camp bc of kuroo and bokuto and then in s3 to stopping ushijima's spike and falling deeper into volleyball like he's so cool!!! seeing him battle against kuroo in this and LAUGH and beat him like wow he's great and he's so petty too i love him lol

KUROO AS WELL!!! i love love love all the little flashbacks they had, especially the one of kuroo and kenma in their childhood when they went to the volleyball place and they had the line about "lowering the net" because as a manga reader, knowing what kuroo ends up doing for his job and how he works to lower the net is such a cool like arc? like seeing how much he grew and how he grasped that and did it himself to help others is so lovely

if i started talking about kenma and shoyo i fear i would never shut up. their friendship means the absolute world to me like they were besties from the moment they met, calling each other by their first names when no one else calls shoyo that except for nishinoya like !!!!! kenma being besties with him when he basically doesnt talk to people like that just goes to show how much shoyo draws people to him. the fact that this friendship fully helped change the way kenma looks at volleyball because he found a worthy opponent and a worthy boss and it made him acknowledge that volleyball was FUN!!!

kenma admitting that volleyball was fun might just be my roman empire (along with one other line i'll talk about in a bit) like IT HAS SUCH AN IMPACT YK???

so many things in this movie held such impacts i think. like kageyama giving shoyo a chance to pick himself up and hit the ball. his little "fly" LIKE YES THAT'S HIS FUCKING PARTNER AND HE'S GOING TO HELP HIM GET BACK UP!!!!! and then shoyo fucking FLEW SO HIGH AND HE SLAYED WOW WHAT A GUY

shoyo's growth throughout this series (especially including the manga and brazil + timeskip stuff) is so wonderful to look at because he really grew so much and we got to witness every little bit of it like isn't that so cool??? we got to see him improve little bits of himself throughout the series and i just love it so fucking much

i need to start wrapping this up bc i've been yapping for so long okay last couple things

"thank you for teaching me volleyball" I FUCKING CRIED OKAY KENMA SAYING THAT TO KUROO IS THE SWEETEST THING EVER LIKE :((( fully attributing that he wouldnt be here today had kuroo not taught him to play volleyball and asked him to play everyday isn't that CRAZY

also i love love LOVE that kenma and kuroo were the first two to bow to nekomata and say thank you, paralleling the scene of them seeing him when they were little kids and like idk i just thought it was a really cool scene

i know i said i cried a lot during the movie but genuinely the last couple minutes from when the match ended onwards when u see them all celebrating or whatever and then speaking to their coaches and then each other!!!!! daichi and kuroo hugging, and then kuroo and tsukishima etc was so so cute to see i love the relationships between the two teams. also seeing grandpa ukai hold his hand out to the fucking tv I FUCKING LOST IT like my eyes hurt from crying so much okay i think my yap is over :D if u read this all then i hope u enjoyed my ramble lol

"Sure. So for Geto it's mostly that I don't like villains with a bigoted ideology and he's too incompetent to even fall in the "love to hate" category. Really, the worst thing a villain can be is incompetent and Geto in Vol 0 is barely better than your average disney villain. Doesn't help that he never gets pushback on his ideals. Gojo tells him in Premature Death that killing people is bad, but that's it. He spouts his bullshit about how genocide is totally necessary and Yuuta stands there like "idk you might be right, but you want to kill people I care about and that's the real crime here". Nobody really engages with his ideology except Yuki I guess, but that was before he became an antagonist. I could forgive that to a degree if he was at least a real threat, but he isn't. You don't get any of that with Geto, he's not even fun to hate because he barely provides any pushback. He's a bad villain and I dislike him as a person as well. His descent into embracing the superiority of sorcerers and resolving to kill all non-sorcerers was well written, but I don't feel for him at all. Good riddance to the guy, I'm glad he's now dead both in body and mind."

When previously asked about JJK Antagonists I didn't mention Geto even though... he is my favorite.

It should also be said that, in terms of scary movies, I love a good creature feature or a deluge into the supernatural but, the scariest movies to me? Will always be the ones with human villains because they're far more plausible.

That summation of Geto is that person's opinion so I, personally, am unmoved by it. I've seen so many piss poor interpretations of Gojo and Geto's characterizations that it's honestly just best to let the story play out so people can retroactively come to some sort of understanding. Moreover, I think there are a lot of people who struggle to concede that, between Gojo and Geto, there was always love. Without that, you can't understand his spiral, you can't acknowledge the humanity of the villain. Moreover, to not understand Geto is to not understand Gojo. And.. since JJK seems to very much be a circular parallel between SatoSugu and ItaFushi, if you can't understand them you miss the whole story.

I'd be curious what villain doesn't have a bigoted and/or radical ideology, especially in shonen? They're meant to be horrible and hard to empathize with. Unless that person's tolerance for villainy is Oikawa from Haikyuu? Most stories hinge on the main character espousing a piece of whatever makes villains.. villains. RE: Yuji being a cursed vessel, Denji being a devil, Tanjiro's proximity to demons, Eren being a titan, Kaneki being a ghoul... I'd argue Naruto and Nine Tails but literally haven't seen the show at all to confidently compare.

Even so, let's get into Geto.

Gorgeous, gorgeous boy. So earnest, so upright... so forged to break.

I recently went on a tirade about SatoSugu which I won't rehash here because... then I'll feel inclined to add more and no one wants to see an adult woman cry today.

As a character, Geto attempts to be incredibly principled. Design wise, he is stylized with features that liken him to Buddha which I think he individually plays into as well to give himself some sort of identity. From his long hanging lobes signifying wisdom and compassion capable of hearing the cries of the suffering, to his gentle chastising of Gojo's flippancy. He believes that the strong should protect the weak while also keeping the strong in check. But... how would a jujutsu outsider come to such a noble ideal?

We know next to nothing about Geto's parents except that they were not sorcerers and, based on his affectionate ability to recognize family beyond blood ties, I think it'd be fair to make some assumptions about what typically informs a characters predilection for the found family trope. 👀

His cursed technique, I think, creates an impetus for purpose. I don't know how he figured out he could do curse manipulation. But we know he swallows the curse, the likes of which is compared to a rag that had been used to mop up vomit, in order to subjugate it. This process, this martyrdom of ingesting the negative run off of mankind has to have a reason to justify his suffering. Because, as the only person we see with this technique, it must feel like a burden only he knows. Moreover, with a special class technique, it's not like he's given much of a choice. But if it helps people, if it has meaning, purpose... he can endure.

We've seen the perfect storm of events that, don't necessarily challenge his pre-existing ideals, but... force him to question whether the ends justify the means. We can call each of these events a moral injury and I don't think it's a stretch to say that there is a link between staunch morality and radicalism which I'm going to bastardize as saying a person may have their ideals on a righteous pedestal. Believing that if I do "A" and "B" then "C" is sure to follow and it allows them purpose and reason. But life is seldom free of other stimuli. I'm not going to go into great depth about examples of this but suffice it to say, this break in Geto's belief system caused an internal chasm we see immediately.

When Gojo asks him if he should kill the believers that applauded Riko's death, Geto said "no, there'd be no reason" which I believe is sufficient for Gojo since he readily leans on Geto as a moral compass. But Geto keeps rationalizing further, likely to curb his own impulse to kill those gathered ignorantly in celebration. OP talks about no pushback on his ideals but the truth of the matter is the biggest pushback for Geto is internal.

When he decided to slaughter that village, he didn't leave a margin of error to come back from. He had to keep moving forward, keep pushing to achieve this impossible world because to not would mean that the atrocities he committed were done in vain and we know, from his characterization, that he would not be able to accept that. Gojo speaks of Geto not starting a war he can't win during JJK0 which is empirically incorrect. When they parted ways in high school, Geto relented that with Gojo's power, his vision could come into fruition. They both knew he didn't have the means to achieve this but he didn't have anything else to stand on. So he hurled himself further and further from his previous path of righteousness and further from himself. He'd committed too great a sin to not give it meaning. To question it now would shatter him completely.

So much of what makes Geto compelling is the fact that he is inherently characterized as a good person, forthright and gentle. He'd have been a great teacher. In fact, the events that transpired between Gojo and Geto are why Gojo is a teacher in the first place. I believe he tried to be a great father figure to Nanako and Mimiko (again, let's forget the murder for a minute) because he pointedly did not raise them in the ways or traditions of jujutsu society. He protected them as best he could even though they still didn't survive their teenage years because they were ignorant about binding vows with sorcerers! Crazy when you think about it. Even what he thought to be a kindness to them cost them fatally.

Things happened to him, likely intentionally, to create this departure from reality and the jujutsu world. He was forged to break because he lacked the flexibility and nonchalance to not be overly concerned for others. He wasn't a diabolical genius, he was overly compassionate and at a complete and total loss when terrible things continually happened to good people who were already sacrificing so much. Riko Amanai was resigned to give up her short life to guarantee the future of Japan. Haibara was a ray of sunshine who, with the means to do so, wanted to help people. The twins were simply cursed to see things the other villagers couldn't, a burdensome reality that damned them to a life he was finding no meaning in, himself. His weakness perhaps lay in a weakness of character? but I wouldn't even say that, honestly. He's like placid water hiding a violent undercurrent deep below the surface.

The gap between who he was and who he died as should be jarring. It should be a demonstration of the grisly reality of jujutsu society. Where classes of 2-3 children are regularly pressed to fight beyond their means against horrors only they know. The sacrifices of the few to protect the many regardless of their virtue. That's the point. He was a casualty of a system that would always lead him toward a moral crisis.

personal complaining rant about haikyuu and hypermasc fanart--because!!! speaking exaggeratedly for fun, and because i don't think anyone's reading

i just saw very very veryvery cute sakuushi art, right after seeing some haikyuu fanart that i really do not like... thing i've realized is i think i hated a lot of the haikyuu fandom so much because, a lot of the art was very masculine LOL. it'll depend on the fandom side ofcourse... and it's not like everyone drew it like that. but i was always stupid and crazyparticular sometimes. hypermasc depictions of characters, in haikyuu fandom i reaaaally hated it. especially because my favorite was ushijima (>_>) it was over. i didn't know how to explain it back then because i was a kid and totally disconnected from that thought, i decided it was because i didn't like my fav being sexualized(complete lie lmao)

a lot of haikyuu fandom sees the boys more as love interests in like, an otome game? or something. or potential husbands. which is fair, people can do what they want... i don't care... well i do care because i hate the drawings and i hate the depictions. but this is my own problem mostly, i didn't end up aligning with most of fan's views on it. ushijima isn't my husband... (gnaws hand) i wouldn't intrude like that... he wouldn't see me like that even if i wanted him to be my wife..... and i would pale in comparison to his other suitors(is now just crazed). not only that i don't align with their shipping views either?! if i was bored by most of the main pairs the fandom decided on when i first got into haikyuu, by now i basically hate them. fuck bokuaka and fuck that one fanfic. (seethe) well actually the ship is fine, most ships are fine or would be fine if i didn't think a lot of the fanwork was atrocious about the characters lol. my art leans feminine, and most of my preferences does too. but i didn't Like the characters that fans decided was feminine like that. i didn't care for them, or i didn't even see them like that! maybe my view of what is fem/masc is a little too jumbled up, but i abide by it. fuck all of this. fuck you. and fuck ushioi. oiushi is fine. ushioi nearly made me dislike oikawa with it's sheer force. oikawa is fine actually he's funny. in fact ushijima and oikawa's relationship IS interesting... i just hate 90% of what i saw of it fanon-wise. sakuushi is precious to me, because gap moe is super. i never liked sakuatsu and i probably never will. i love atsumu but this is not where he should beee...(rolls around). it also made me despise mafia aus by instinct. im crazy but heta is kind of fresh air to me for this, so many cutesy art... so many fun art... and the source material goes with it too. if not outright cute then it's funny, which is cute itself! even if it's dark or weird it's still cute. and so much more ryona than i could ever dream of (Im So Happy). at least back then when i was more brain tied to haikyuu, there were the bunch of people who'd make more cute art. in english fandom, the cartoonish funny cuteness. i find easian fandoms get the characters down in a way i like much more most of the time tho lol. for some reason the jokes people pick up on are different? like you don't see obsessive fan shirabu in english fandom LOL. but seasian fandom does a lot of handsome ultramasc husbando haikyuu fanart(gnaws hand). that's not surprising... i know indonesians like manboobs... whatever idon't even care. i don't care. i don't.

i'm complaining so i might as well, but saddening to me when art of characters being feminine felt so limited. especially for the characters with more "masculine" bodytypes(fuck all of you). again my view of fem/masc is a little jumbled, or kind of weird so my words don't mean much here. but i never understood why characters were so limited by fans in it. if a ""masculine""(fuck you) character were to be given like, a dress, or feminine clothing, it'd be like, deliberately an outlier in some way. like for the "absurdity" of it... they'd never shut up about the absurdity too... i don't care if it's sexualization it's just really annoying to keep being like this guy is so masculine but he's wearing a dress!!! crazy right!!! look how annoyed he is scowling and jaw hard and muscles tense!!! don't you see how crazy masculine he is while in that dress!!!! i'll kill you all. characters flustered in dresses is cute. nobody understands. it's over. it's just strange to see, the only characters where anyone ever acknowledges their feminine traits are whoever people decide are twinks. the characters who isn't usually get focus on how dominant and masculine they are. but if you dig you can find fanart of them in super very cute artstyles! the core of haikyuu is volleyball fun after all. most of the time the characters behave very endearingly, rather than the super macho mafia bosses people are so insistent on. for the majority of it's runtime they're stupid teenage boys, and even after timeskip they're having good fun. they're happy and loving. i really can't stand a lot of the fanart. but if you find right you will find the best the cutest the sweetest. (my current heta twt used to be the acc i used scouring for cute haikyuu fanart and posting them LOL... i still follow some haikyuu accounts bcz of it)(korean sakuushi art!!! the absolute best!!!) ones that really understand haikyuu's cuteness. it's still a manga dear to my heart, even tho i'll avoid checking in the fandom 90% of the time.

3. What fandoms do you write for? literally depends on whatever I'm interested in at the moment. Right now, I go between haikyuu and love in the air. the bulk of my stuff is from high school/early college when i was super into attack on titan and voltron

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

i didn't steal your boyfriend (in fact, i didn't touch him at all): this one is crazy because it's quite literally so stupid LMAO i wrote it when i was 14 and yet it still gets the occasional kudos. madness!!

go ahead and cry little boy: i also think this one is dumb, but i was so committed to it. it's still the longest fic i've ever written and it took a lot out of me. i wrote it between sophomore and junior year of high school and it was a lot. a lot of people over the years have said that they resonated with it, so i keep it up for them even though it kills me inside every time i remember i wrote it lol. i don't think the writing is necessarily bad, but it definitely reads juvenile (which tracks lol). as an adult looking back on it, there's so much i want to change

and i wanna feel it all: my first love in the air phayu/rain fic. this one baffles me too, but more because i literally wrote in maybe an hour or two and a lot of people ended up liking it!

tighter than before, no regrets: another one that i put very little effort into. but i still like this one, it was fun and i don't mind it

me and your boyfriend: this one i'm really proud of actually lol. i got to explore a new relationship dynamic and people were so encouraging. i think it helped me to try new things in fics

5. Do you respond to comments? i try to! i usually reply as they come in so i don't forget. but there are times that i put it off, and then it's been months and it feels like it's too late to respond haha

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? i had to go back and look, but i've written quite a few unrequited love/pining fics (it's my favorite trope), and a few of those ended without the characters getting together/any resolution. i also wrote a few fics about character death so i would count those as well.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? most of them! i'm a sucker for a getting together fic, so that's the majority of my endings.

8. Do you get hate on fics? i haven't in years. maybe since 2014. i guess if people don't like my stuff, they just click off. which is actually nice!

15. What are your writing strengths? i've been complimented a lot on how i write emotions, so i'll go with that. some of my favorite fics and books were the kind where you could physically feel the emotions as they're described, so i think i try to emulate that in my own writing

hands up on your hips - this was a self-indulgent corruption kink fic that i still feel so strongly about lmao. it was something i really wanted to do and i loved how it came out (also it was a pwp i wrote when i was still unsure of my smut skills so it felt extra rewarding)

a proximity thing - this was a friends to lovers fic that i loved writing because i liked describing how the characters felt something building between them both physically and emotionally. it's a vibe i've since recreated multiple times (for the same pairing too lol) because it's one of my favorite aspects of this trope. building on a familiar dynamic and writing how it's slowly starting to morph into something new is so exciting for me
