An Update to how the Baldur's Gate 3 campaign with @thebreadtree is going:

These are our current Discord Usernames. This Game is unlocking new things that I didn't know I would ever experience. It is truly a wild ride.

Also, my dice are cursed. I lose so many times and roll crappy numbers. It's driving me insane. I don't know how often we had to reset simply because I didn't roll well enough, but the fail would completely ruin everything. And it's not like I only miss the high rolls. Those are of course difficult. It's mostly actually the low rolls that I miss, which makes it worse.

Still having a lot of fun, of course. Genuinely, I can only recommend the game.

★  PREFERENCE OF COMMUNICATION: IMs are okay but discord is best! I am very chatty on discord sometimes, and the search function is really helpful for me when it comes to going back and finding old things. I'm also just on discord basically all day in some capacity, so I rarely miss things for long.

★  MOST ACTIVE MUSE: I can basically write any of my DR OCs at the drop of a hat, although Shinobu is the one who I am currently writing most, and have the easiest time writing because of that. I think for me, though, it's more "do I have energy/creativity to write right now at all" rather than if I have muse for a specific character or not - it's not usually the case that I struggle with a specific character at a time when I'm otherwise writing easily.

★  EXPERIENCE / HOW MANY YEARS: I started off on a forum in maybe 2006 or 2007, did some stuff on livejournal, had a cup of coffee at Gaia Online, and settled on Tumblr in maybe... 2012? 2013? I've done some things on discord (don't love it for RP) and google docs (it's okay) since then, and a handful of other places, but I think I'm just Here Now, like furniture.

★  RP PET PEEVES:  

I have talked about these all so many times so I'll try to keep it brief hahaha.

People who repeatedly drop threads without reaching out to say anything (this is my #1 pet peeve), and people who generally cycle "taking on too many asks/drafts, then dropping all of them, repeat."

People who habitually archive/delete and remake their blogs, especially if they don't make any changes to how they run things, who they interact with, etc. I see it as, like "bringing your bed to your new apartment and being confused as to why you still have bedbugs."

People who post tons of OOCs, as well as things like memes, starter calls, ship calls, etc. while having a massive backlog of drafts and inbox things already.

People who treat OCs/female characters/female OCs dismissively, or as stepping stone interactions.

★   PLOTS OR MEMES: Plots. I honestly don't like memes very much since I feel like they seldom lead to the kind of long-term interactions I like the most, but they're so entrenched on tumblr that I just kinda have to accept them. I would much rather talk to people and plot out loose thread ideas than send in a dialogue prompt from a movie I haven't seen and hope it gets answered and hope that that answer feels like something I can respond to and hope that my reply gets replied to and it's actually a thread. I like doing stuff that develops across multiple threads too, and plotting is much better for that.

★  ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSE(S)?: Not really, I don't think. There are pieces of me in all of my characters, of course, and there are superficial similarities sometimes in terms of like, hobbies or interests, but I think the characters who feel like they got more of me mixed into them are like, D&D characters, or characters from my other blogs.

Recommendations for additional/alternative social media?

This blog and my wider public social media presence are approaching two years old. While it has been a good time and I am grateful for the following I have attained and friends I have made, I am curious about using other social media. Sure, Tumblr is not the most obscure social media, but it’s more niche than a lot of others. I am interested in taking commissions some time in future and am interested in growing my audience in general, but I also just want to discover new artists and find new inspirations. I already have Reddit and Discord accounts, but from what I understand most people do not use Reddit for personal-blog type social media even though you can post art there, and I’d prefer to keep Discord for personal use. Remember even if I where to create other accounts, I’d probably still use Tumblr as my primary social media

I left Amino off of here because I have not heard of anyone using it in a while but from what I heard it kind of went down the shitter. Bluesky (?) and ToyHouse are off of here because those require access codes (and I haven’t heard anyone talk about Bluesky in a hot minute), and I feel weird about just asking people for them. Creating my own website, wether that be through Neocities or straight up learning code, falls under the same category as YouTube, where I am interested but don’t have the skills or the time to learn the skills to operate them.

If you're interested in semi-literate Identity V roleplay involving ships (WeepyMike, Nortpheus, and VicDrew are my big ships that I will definitely want to use) with a primary focus around Joker and Mike, dm me and we can make a discord server. Some ground rules!

- I only do literate, no * or stuff like that (I'll write an example).

- I'd prefer it to be on Discord.

- I only write as my OC's. I feel very comfortable with them. You can be just canon characters if you'd like, I don't mind. If there are lots (like battles was stuff) in a scene, I'll do my best to help you. (I would prefer if you'd be a canon character though.)

- This is going to be a one-on-one roleplay. No groups, it's too chaotic for me and I'd get too overwhelmed otherwise.

- You have to be at least 18+ age range.

- No minors, because I will be doing dark themes, NSFW, and the like. And no, I will not make exceptions. (Please don't lie to me about your age, that's just fucked up and I'll immediately block you if you do.)

- You have to have canon knowledge of what we'll be roleplaying (that would be obvious lmao.)

- You have to put in just as much effort as me. It's frustrating when I come back to a two liner reply. Especially since I write A LOT. It would just discourage me. 50/50 is preferred. Don't force yourself to write if you don't want to (have health issues, feeling down in the dumps, ect. Please tell me if something is wrong of course.)

Valrel sighs as she crouches on the railing, arms bent on her knees as she looks down at the city lights. It's beautiful tonight, from up here at least. She'd just gotten done with a full sweep of the surrounding block two times, making sure everything is right as rain. She'd been planning this for a month, so it best work when the time was right. She'd kept track of all the potential threats, witnesses, and the people that live in this expensive apartment complex. From all walks of life, but they're all rich - particularly the ones on top. At the penthouse.

Flipping up and over the balcony railing above her, steps silent as she crouches again. The wind passes by, playing with her loose white locks as she forms water around her fingers. Flexing them, her eyes glow under her blue opaque visor - the water slips in under the crack of the locked glass door. Boom. Open. Using her other hand to slide it open, taking a step in.

She'd taken the precaution to loop the empty rooms camera for around 10 minutes. That's all she needs. Security is down around here. The residents did go on a nice vacation away from Blüdhaven, fortunate for her - not so much for them. They won't even notice anyways. Still, Valrel footsteps are silent as she makes her way through the roomy living room and to the home office, sliding in, she's quick to go to the safe and start with picking the lock with her powers. Staying alert. Nightwing might appear like he usually does. Not that she minds his presence...he's just distracting when she's doing something she deems important. Valrel huffs to herself, smirking lightly with amusement quirking her expression.

She won't say she doesn't have fun when he decides to come around.

I've been writing for 11 years now

Usual style is what I think it's called literate with like 2 or 3 paragraphs usually

I have a little trouble with certain letter and words sounds so it's possible I'll be making mistakes like trading "will" for "you" or stuff like "brief" for "breath". I usually pay attention but it happens, so let me know and I'll edit the reply

I don't currently want to join any groups as they take too much attention

Will be replying at least once a day but I usually manage to squeeze in 2 or 3 replies. Depends on partner speed too! :D

I prefer fantastic plots in some way or another over slice-of-life things. That means if the setting is modern there's got to be something else going on

I don't focus on smut ever, but I can write it if you really want to. Otherwise it's all fade to black and headcanons

Trigger Warnings and the such: I have no triggers for content except characters that smoke weed, specially if they keep talking about it. Otherwise it's all good. We can always talk about content deeper depending on the sort of rp we're planning to do!

WON'T WRITE: Serial killer/slasher, incest, abusive/toxic/mean spirited relationships im general - I'm all in for complex, angsty, grey area ships. Stuff like too much devotion or forbidden love and all. Just not obsessive, destructive, controlling etc

Echoing prev tags about a lot of RP spaces being super uptight, restrictive, puritanical, et cetera, but I also wanna draw attention to the opposite.

Online RP is like... potential groomer PLAYGROUND. My first experiences with RP included doing 'Animal Jam mating'. I moved to Pokemon Showdown after that and was introduced to 'proper' ERP by a 20-something year old man. I LIKE doing ERP, and I liked doing it with my friends who I actually trusted, but should I have been introduced to it by some random dude who was always a little bit of a creep? No. No I should not have been.

And of course, the common problems with RP spaces still persist. Elitism, literacy if that matters to you, people actually being respectful of your character and boundaries. I get WHY people gravitate towards AI bots. Though they're harder to communicate with and don't always give good results, they don't say no. They don't yell at you for making a mistake. They don't berate you. The RP space I was in was EXTREMELY toxic and not healthy for me to be in as a 13 year old, even though it was a 13+ space. Multiple mods were outed as groomers, some of my friends and I were viciously harassed by people much older than us, activity dropped hard after the move from Pokemon Showdown to Discord.

At the same time, I DID meet most of my closest friends through RP. RP is one of my favorite hobbies and something I don't think I'll ever be able to fully let go. It helped me process a lot of trauma, explore my sexuality in a (mostly) safe environment, and become better as a writer. On top of that, giving me some very close connections. I don't regret my time in RP spaces. At the same time, I don't blame people for not wanting to be involved in them, whether as kids or adults. Seriously the only good, relatively popular adult RP site that I can name off the top of my head is F-List, and even THAT site has a whole host of moderation and community issues. I used to be one of many kids who would sneak onto F-List because it was one of the only good, active sites with an anti-censorship policy, and... do not do that. Don't emulate me. It's not worth the risk to yourself or others.

I think AI fucking sucks and prefer playing with an actual person, but in terms of like... safety? Online RP spaces are not safe for minors and never were. I would genuinely rather teens be frisky with AI bots as opposed to either A) getting involved in adult spaces because they can't express anywhere else, or B) situating into 'kid/teen friendly' servers that are rife with grooming where the topic of ERP is an open secret more than anything else. And even if they're NOT in a predator-ridden space... the aforementioned issues of creative repression, elitism, and struggling to find partners you jive with persists. Shit sucks.

i dont like the idea that kids these days are doing their fandom rps with ai chatbots. that's how you're supposed to make lifelong friends as a weird really online teen.

Why did you choose to share on Tumblr rather than the other more popular social media platforms?

Twitter doesn’t lend itself well to archiving. On Tumblr, you can add whatever tags you choose to differentiate between different types of posts, making the process of going through your blog history much easier. I can tag my #resources, #100daysofcode, #asks, etc and it’s so much more accessible to both visitors of my blog and myself. The same goes for other blogs. For example, if I wanted to see what someone has posted or reblogged about the programming language Javascript, I can either go through their #javascript tag or use the search function and see if they’ve mentioned it anywhere.

The culture is also very different from social media like Twitter, Instagram or Tiktok, where it’s frowned upon to go through people’s blogs. On Tumblr, it’s encouraged!

It helps that I was already a regular user of Tumblr, so of course it was my default choice. 😊

Do you prefer it/Why do you like the Codeblr community?

I do! I’ve met some sweet people. A lot of people I know have also said how much more welcoming Codeblr is compared to the coding community on Twitter, but as someone who’s never ventured there I can’t really shed light on the differences.

As for why I like the community, it is very approachable and welcoming! I love being able to participate in conversations, and being able to see what everyone is doing.

How long have you been a member of Codeblr, and how active are you in the community?

I’ve been in the Codeblr community since March of 2023, and I’d say that I’m fairly active! I reblog resources from other blogs on a daily basis, and every once in a while I post about my coding progress as well: what projects I’m working on, things I’ve been learning, and so on. I make some of my own resource posts too - an introduction to computer systems masterpost, a list of sites where you can learn robotics for free, a list of raspberry project ideas, and a post I keep adding onto which contains resources on how you as a person in computer science can help the environment. Once in a blue moon, I’ll get an ask looking for advice on where to start programming.

Six months ago in April, I started the Codeblr Blogs Unite discord server, which has since then been joined by 150+ members. It’s a nice little community, and I’m proud of it, but it could never have been possible without the lovely people inside making it happen.

In what ways has Codeblr contributed to your learning and growth as a coder?

Where would I be without the countless posts of resources and tutorials people have made? Probably a lot more clueless. I also wouldn’t really know anyone else who also codes, which would be a right shame.

Recent ones would be about discussions on how to fix Windows 11 (had to help my Dad who accidentally installed it), posts about best practices regarding code, conversations on the benefits of Firefox and Linux (and it’s distributions like Linux Mint), and a post by @xiacodes detailing how to network on LinkedIn.

Have you participated in any notable collaborations or group projects with other Codeblr members?

I haven’t, sadly, but it’s on my to-list!

How do you view the importance of diversity and inclusion within Codeblr?

Extremely important. If people don’t feel comfortable asking questions, then they’ll never learn things and the community will lose out on a lot of potentially great work and friends. If people only have one perspective, then they’ll never broaden their horizons. It's no fun seeing people get shut down just because of who they are.

As someone not straight, fully white, or male, it’s in my best interest that people like me are able to continue eating at the dinner table (so to speak).

Of course, the inclusion of beginners is important as well. In some spaces, it can become quite cliquey - people who are further up the learning pole might look down on you for not knowing anything and ignore so called simple questions, but I think it's important to foster a place where that doesn't happen. How are they supposed to get past basic questions when you make fun of them? We are all here to learn, and we have to start somewhere.

Have you observed efforts within the community to foster an inclusive environment?

Of course! Heaps of people have made that effort just by being all-around lovely people. 

Off the top of my head, @tenaciousdeveloper is somewhat like a mentor to all of us; @blackjackkent offers live tutoring streams; @xiacodes is so helpful and nice, welcoming newcomers to the community (she offered to help me with my LinkedIn profile the other day!); @a-fox-studies writes about chronic pain and how that affects her; @leaveblackkbrosalone helped me with some issues for a project of mine; the list goes on and on.

I am making an article about us! Well, about the coding community on here (#codeblr)!

I got advice from a frequent writer on Medium that I should write about something I am passionate about and to find out what exactly, she said "What topic would you talk about for hours in front of an audience?" and honestly it would be Tumblr, but more especially about the Codeblr community!

I've made some notes on what I want to talk about. It's still not complete as I made the notes around midnight last night so I was a bit tired whilst I was typing but I will take time to talk to people, plan the various topics I want to cover properly and get enough information!

🤔 What's my aim with writing the article?

To shed light to the community and the hard work everyone has put into their codeblr/studyblr blogs. From people sharing resources, to those who share their programming progresses. Someone asked me time ago about sharing their codeblr blogs on their resume/CV and on other social media platforms - if people can share their YouTube, Twitter, Instagram account on coding, why not their Codeblr blog? Your Tumblr blog is just as worthy as someone sharing on Twitter. Plus it's nicer and more welcoming here~!

Anyhoo, if you see your name in the list, I will ask permission to mention you! I won't force it or anything.

So the one thing I say is making this mandatory tells who is really interested in writing with you.  Who has read your rules,  and overall helps take out some of the guess work.  This choice might not be for everyone at all but I prefer it.  I don’t mind going through and filling out several trackers so that I can give everyone the best results possible on starting something up together.

I’m going to call this a tutorial but it is a guide or a what is on mine that I found was super informative for me. You can use this to build your own or even just get an idea of what one could look like.  The indie world is vast and can feel overwhelming at times but this interest tracker thing helps.

Make a list  (public preferred.  Private is okay)  of who all filled it out.  Mark a number down for each person in the order they filled it out.  This way you can go back to say number 8 and get their information.  Easier to cross reference and get information without having to click through 7 responses just to get to the one you want.  I make mine public so that way my friends don’t have to ask me “did I fill this out?” they can just look for their name on the list.

BLOG URL;

An important one to know who is filling this out.  Allowing people to put several blog urls is an option that worked for me.

MUN NAME;

Some people share the same alias but that is okay.  With the blog url and this mun name?  You can now tell who filled this out!

MUN PRONOUNS:

Helpful to start a conversation with them.  Now these can change so always check pinned post / rules page before hand if you can or try not to use pronouns at all until you can crosscheck the information.

MUN AGE:

Just a generalized thing can be overly helpful.

MUN BIRTHDAY:

Allowing people the ability to leave blank but I’m someone if I get friendly?  I want to wish you a big old happy birthday on your special day.  I thought this was really special and could make me stand out in a way. 

TRIGGERS:

This is often in a rules page. I put it here as a fast way of okay we are plotting and I need to know this as I’m not at my computer at the moment but I have this.

Since some people might be uncomfortable with a topic but it won’t leave them in an anxiety attack or something.

HYBRID WRITING PLATOFMRS

Some love writing on discord just as much or MORE than writing on tumblr.  This allows that as an option.  

COLORED TEXT:

Not everyone can read it.  This gives them the option to opt out of it.  This is super helpful in terms of being able to know who can’t read it and I need to change my aesthetic for them.

HARD TO READ FORMATTING:

Everyone telling you what makes it hard for them to focus.  This is super helpful in terms of being able to know who can’t read it and I need to change my aesthetic for them.

WHAT KIND OF MATERIALS:

Some don’t like gifs,  icons,  etc to be used.  This allows them the option to pick what is used.

PLOT STYLE:

Some people have a hard time plotting.  I would rather know they aren’t a plotter here and just go in with the memes or something.

WRITING STYLE:

This is more writing length than anything else.  I can see how much is too much for a person with ease here.

STARTER CALL OR ASK MEME.

I love memes but some people might prefer not.  This tells me what is the easiest way  (aside from plotting) to interact with them.

RANDOM STARTERS.

This tells me if I can write freely to this person if the muse strikes.

CAN I SEND MEMES?;

Yes or no answer.  Rarely is this answer going to be a no from what I’ve found out.

HOW MANY MEMES CAN I SEND?:

Tells me how much is too much.

SMUTTING QUESTION;

Tells me who is comfortable with writing the deed and who isn’t.  I put it on there even if smutting at this moment isn’t of interest because the mind could change later.

we were talking about headcanon in the Harry & Ginny discord, when I said that there was a lack of fanfics where James and Sirius kissed, and @ginisbetterthanfirewhiskey encouraged me to write, so here it is :)

'Do you think you kiss well?' James asked, lying next to Sirius, the two of them with a bottle of Firewhiskey confiscated from his father's liquor cabinet, a little drunk after a few sips already taken. Sirius sighed, legs stretched out, knee scraped from when they rolled down the hill last night, taking a walk like Padfoot and Prongs.

'Nobody ever complained. Why? Afraid to kiss Evans and be awful?' He smiled, eyebrows raised.

'We are just friends, don't be stupid,' James repeated, more to him than to Sirius, however.

'Don't lie, Prongs, I know you want to kiss her.'

'Wanting and being able to do are different things. Anyway. Have you never been curious to know if you kiss well? Or if kissing a boy is different from kissing a girl?’ James asked, really curious, blaming the drink that was burning in his throat.

'Of course it's different, it's a guy.' Sirius laughed, taking another sip of firewhiskey and looking at James. 'Do you want to kiss me to see if it's different?' James felt his cheeks flush, watching Sirius look at him curiously as if it were super common to ask a question like that.

They weren't that different in height, even though Sirius had grown almost two heads over that vacation and James only one, and he admitted that Sirius was a handsome guy with gray eyes and long hair. He was naturally charming.

'You can't resist my beauty, can you?' James said, smiling at him, ignoring that moment of shyness.

'You were the one who came up with this, mate.' Sirius shrugged. 'When did you start thinking about it, after you saw me just in a towel?' James laughed.

'Don't be an idiot, I was just curious.'

'And I already said that if you want, you can kiss me, feel free, James, our friendship will remain intact.' He smiled. ‘I can tell you if you kiss well or not, and then you’ll know if you need to go back to training on the pillow to kiss Evans.’

'Prongs ...' Sirius raised his eyebrows. 'Are you going to kiss me or not?'

'You look very excited, now I'm thinking that you were the one who liked to see me just in a towel.' James smirked.

'Yes, I have been wanting to suck your dick ever since.' Sirius said, not holding back his laugh when James laughed, laughing with him. 'Don't be an dumbass, I'm just trying to help.'

'So, okay, let's kiss.' He decided, settling on the bed and placing the bottle of Firewhiskey on the floor.

'Since when are you so articulate? I see you stepping on eggs with the girls since Amelia let you touch her boobs,’ Sirius straightened up too, seeming to find it funny.

'I have improved with time.' James shrugged, and the two faced each other. He wanted to laugh. 'How do you want to do it, do you want to put your hand on my waist... ’

'Just close your eyes and kiss me, James.' Sirius stepped forward, eyes closed, and kissed him.

It was strange, but not bad.

And he also thought he didn't feel much of a difference with the kisses he had with girls, even though Sirius' lips were shockingly the softest he had ever kissed so far. None of them touched, hands firmly on the mattress, and James thought it was weird, too, but it felt weirder to take Sirius' waist than not to.

It was James who put his tongue in the middle of the kiss, even more curious to know what it would be like, and even though Sirius looked scared at first, he soon did the same, and the two were actually kissing.

Of all the people he thought he would kiss in his bed, at home, in the middle of the night, Sirius was the last on the list, but James was not sorry.

Sirius kissed well, all those girls weren't lying after all, he wasn't flustered, nor too slow, and for a few seconds, a shiver ran down James' spine, but he was pretty sure it was just the fact that he was kissing someone when he was 16, the hormones were crazy inside him, and he was slightly drunk.

James bit his lower lip, as he used to do when he kissed other girls, before completely separating himself from Sirius, his eyes still closed, feeling a little shy now that he had really evaluated what they had done.

That wouldn't change their friendship, would it? Like, James was sure they were unlikely to kiss each other again, and the thought of Sirius doing more than that to him made him feel strange. And not in a good way.

'It's different to kiss a guy,' Sirius said first. 'But you kiss well.’

'I didn't think it was any different. What do you do on your lips?’ James put his hand on his own, still feeling the softness of his friend.

'It is a moisturizing lip cream.' Sirius laughed, looking embarrassed at being discovered. 'And I? Good kiss?’

'Yes.' He admitted, without shame, picking up the firewhiskey on the floor, which was almost halfway up. 'It was a good experience, you are good with your tongue.'

'The bite at the end? I'm going to start using it.' They went back to their previous positions, legs stretched out and the bottle in the middle of them. 'But I still prefer girls, mate, no offense.'

'Me too, Pads.' James sighed.

'Don't worry, Prongs, I'm sure Evans will like it a lot more than I do when you kiss her.'

'Sirius, we are just friends.' James reminded him, for what seemed like the hundredth time in the day.

‘Now, but every couple starts like this, I’m sure you two are still getting married..’ He said, smiling.

'Haha, I think she would rather die than marry me, honestly.'

Some years later.

'I was right,' Sirius said, sitting next to James, wearing his best suit and with the glass of drink in his hand.

'About what?' James looked at him, also wearing his best suit, but his had been made especially for that date, with some details in gold thread.

'When we kissed, and I told you that you and Lily would one day get married.' James laughed, nodding and watching her talk to her mother at the other table, dressed in white and looking like a goddess, grinning from ear to ear.

'I used the lip bite technique at the end.' He blinked, smiling and feeling the happiest guy in the world.

Hello, I hope it’s not too much to ask, but I am new in the fanfic writers community, and this is the first time when I would love to participate in the FicFest, hence there are some terms I’m not sure I understand. I hope I will not sound dumb, I just prefer to ask so I won’t cause any issues.

Could you, please, explain to me, just so I can be sure, how do you properly promt submission, what is an author sign up and later on check in. Also, just to clarify, I am not trying to joke around or anything, I genuinely do not know these terms.

Hello! We would like to start off by saying welcome to the community! We are honored that our fic fest will be your first.

Your questions are not dumb, and we're happy you asked because we've received two other messages asking the same, so we are more than happy to explain!

Every fest is run differently, so the process may be different for another fest that may interest you in the future, but we have decided to create a Google form for both prompt submissions and author sign-ups, both of which will become available according to the schedule.

Prompt submission:

On January 3rd, the prompt submission form will be posted publicly and kept open for responses until January 31st. Prompt submissions are a fun way for people to share ideas they may have but don't necessarily want to write themselves, and both writers and readers can submit them, but it is not required to participate as a writer. If you have an idea but would rather keep it for yourself to write, we recommend saving it for the sign-up period.

The form will have simple questions for you to answer, including a space where you can type up a prompt. For example:

Person A is a single parent who has moved to a new city for a job, and immediately charms everyone at work except person B, who seems determined to avoid person A. One day, they run into each other while picking up their children from daycare and person A realizes that person B is struggling with balancing life and single parenthood, and suggests they reach out some time if they need help or just a friend who understands, and from there, their relationship grows from reluctant companionship to lovers.

It's a good idea to include details in your prompt without being too specific that a prospective author feels limited in their adherence to the prompt. Include character names if you have specific roles you want to be filled, such as Harry as a baker and Louis as a tattoo artist, or leave it open for author interpretation like the example above. This fest is open to all pairings as long as they adhere to our rule about the relationship being queer, so prompts can be ship specific or can be written as Harry x character if you won't mind the pairing.

There is space to write two prompts in the form, but only one is necessary. You can submit the form as many times as you like, so if you only have one idea now and another a week later, feel free to come back and fill out another one.

Author sign-up:

After prompt submissions close, the author sign-up form will be made publicly available on February 1st, and kept open for authors to sign-up until March 13th. Here, we will ask for contact information for all writers so we can keep track of who is writing and find the best way to communicate with each author. We will have a Discord server for this fest that will serve as our form of communication, but it is completely optional and if you choose to opt out, another form of contact will be available.

Along with the sign-up form, a Google doc listing all accepted prompts will be made available for authors to choose from, and will be updated to mark prompts as unavailable as they are claimed to avoid two authors signing up for the same prompt. There will be a space available to choose a second prompt in the event that your first choice becomes unavailable before we are able to reflect that in the doc, and it is recommended but not necessary.

If you are choosing to sign up with your own prompt, this would be the time to do so. The form will ask you if you are choosing a prompt from the list or signing up with your own, and will direct you to the appropriate questions based on your response. There, you will find a space where you can fill in your own original prompt, and that is the prompt we will record along with your sign-up information. This will be the prompt that you are expected to write and submit as your final work.

During the sign-up period, we are asking that each author only claim one prompt. After the sign-up period, all unclaimed prompts will be moved to a separate doc and if you would like to sign up for an additional prompt, you can choose from this list or sign up with you own original idea.

MACREADY from THE THING. as far as i know , they knew poor katie balmayne , in fact i hear that they were A SUMMER FLING way back when. i wonder how they’re coping seeing all these familiar faces again …

aglaia o'rourke was born in glenview, ireland, to a rather large family. aggie had three older brothers, all of which ( aside from one ) exuded the same nonchalant, neglectful behavior that her parents did. the family lived in poverty with both parents struggling to hold down a job due to alcoholism. 

aggie was able to compartmentalize both the physical and emotional abuse that she did receive. aglaia and the brother born a year before her, silas, grew very close. around the time aggie turned 16, she and her brother attended a house party together. it was here that her brother got into a serious fight and ended up being repeatedly stabbed in front of aggie. 

this trauma was only really felt by aglaia; her family did not seem phased by the occurrence, shedding very little tears at silas’s death. this event tanked aglaia’s mental stability, and she ended up moving in with a friend to finish secondary school. 

in 1987, the year aglaia finished secondary school, she left glenview to explore ireland on her own. venturing from town to town, aglaia resorted to robbing petrol stations with misguided souls she met along the way, earning enough to skate by as she couch surfed with strangers. fearless and intelligent, aggie treated her robberies the same way she did chess: something to win at.

at the age of 22, aglaia returned to glenview, a couple years after katie’s disappearance and death. the news had only just reached aggie, and she felt nostalgic enough to return to the town she was born in. 

upon arrival, aggie met an old childhood acquaintance that fascinated her. it wasn’t long that the two resided in glenview, making off to commit a string of robberies in dublin. the year and a half they spent doing this was the best year of aglaia’s life, who reveled in the thrill that their adventures offered. 

the duo got sloppy and even committed low-security bank heists, and this ended up backfiring on them. aglaia was apprehended by the gardai as her partner made away with their money; she was sentenced to three years in a low security prison. 

aglaia spent much of her time alone in her own company, reflecting on her life and decisions. her stint in prison steeled her and only motivated her criminal interests further. she dreamed of leading her own heist team one day, possibly on the coast of the united states. 

upon release, aggie was somewhat of a new person; she had grown to be more reclusive, and fell face first into the throes of alcoholism. attempting a life on the up and up, aglaia spent the next six years of her life as a bartender. 

despite becoming a contributing member of society, she felt as though she was in a haze living such a repetitive, boring life. aggie was suspicious of others and spent most of her free time drinking, reading, or playing chess with willing strangers. 

it wasn’t until an invitation to a wedding in glenview came along that aggie felt a splinter of hope for some excitement. returning to glenview once again has been somewhat of a trip for the stone cold, intelligent alcoholic, but she hopes to find some purpose there.
