Ye olde cat boys....

(I'm working on a bigger piece rn, so I colored this sketch in the meantime :DD)

I realized this is basically a more realized version of a sketch from really early boy king days:

"Fighter… There's something about the loops," Loop's eyes refuse to meet yours, their brows knit in… confusion, worry?

"Yeah?" You say, because this isn't usually how they talk about things.

They breathe, in and out, a little unsteady. You see their chest rise and fall, heave with effort.

They look through you. "Oh… Stars, hah! I don't know how I didn't see it before."

"… What are you talking about?"

"The loops…" They say, voice softer than you've ever heard them. "I-I think there's something wrong. Well, that's a given, I suppose, but I— never mind. Something's… broken."

You don't hear the rest of what they say because your blood turns to ice. Something's broken, something's failing, rotting. They told you they couldn't, uh, see that far, right? Communication cuts right about when you get to the King. But they must have been lying then, right? Because if they couldn't reach you at the King, there's no way they'd know about… that.

You haven't told them what the Head Housemaiden says, have you? You feel like you'd remember that. And they seemed… too earnest to be playing some kind of prank. You feel sick. Like you're choking. There's a thread tugging at your chest, pulling you along,

"Is— Fighter?" Loop is looking straight at you now, eyes wide, almost desperate (almost haunted).

You. Went back? How? Why? The only time that had happened without you dying was… was when you talked to the Head Housemaiden.

The Heart of Hyrule Modern AU pt 1

Alright AU dump let's goooo

Let's get some character stuff down for the 3 grown ups (not including Malon)

Time

He's a retired adventurer/hero. He's actually been knighted by the crown but he only agreed as a favor to his old childhood friend, the crown princess Zelda. He's pretty well known as more myth than man for his monster slaying escapades.

Mysterious origins abound. No one except for Malon knows how old Time is and where he's *actually* from. He is in fact from the Kokiri Forest which is a common fairytale. His mother left him there while fleeing the civil war which ended a few years after his birth.

Able to sense magic. Uses it sometimes.

He's married to Malon. When Talon passed, Malon inherited Lon-Lon Ranch. Everything is in her name. He has a coffee mug that says 'Princess' on it as a joke. They also joke he married her for the horses. Lon-Lon Ranch is small, mostly managed by the two of them and Twilight.

Time's pretty reclusive. He doesn't like to go into town. There's rumors about him bc of it, but Malon throws hands for him.

Time and Malon "hired" Twilight as a ranch hand when he showed up on their doorstep with an old ad in the paper from when Talon still ran things. They couldn't just let a kid like him out of their sight and have essentially adopted him.

They also look after the others. Their home is a safe place for the younger ones to go when they need it. Also they pay them to help out with chores (esp during the summer).

Time has issues with chronic pain which is part of why he stopped going on royal errands. His back and knees are pretty rough.

He keeps out hummingbird feeders for both birds and fairies.

Caffeine addict. Always has a cup of coffee within 5 feet of his person. Malon buys his coffee mugs. They are all jokes at his expense.

His favorite food is milk. The colder the better.

Not a strong reader. Malon taught him how to read.

Warriors

Next oldest. He's 22, just slightly older than Twi.

He's a city boy. He left his family's primary home there to live in their summer house in town. It's a big manor and he lives there alone. He doesn't really like it much but he doesn't know what else to do with himself

Heir to a weapons development company that got its foothold in the war. wealthy upbringing. His dad's been married three times so Wars has a large amount of step and half siblings he's not close to. He himself is an "only" child. He does not get along with his father and doesn't know the rest of his family well.

He was in school for architecture but is taking a break bc it got to be too much for him. He works part time at the city office as a clerk.

Doesn't make friends easily, is used to getting picked on.

Emotionally neglected/abused as a child. Struggles with being too clingy when he makes a genuine bond with someone. Lots of feelings of insufficiency

Prolific dater for a while in high school. Cheated on his partners. Had one extremely toxic ex as a teenager (theres cw worthy stuff here so i wont mention it in this post) and has been put off on ever having any real relationships with anyone ever again.

Touch aversion bc of the aforementioned. Doesn't mind if it's Wind or Twi tho. Slowly warming up to the others.

He struggles to relate or says very ignorant things sometimes just bc of his privileged upbringing but he's doing his best to learn better.

Came up in private school. Had nannies until he was 14. Nowhere's ever really felt like home to him

Writes poetry and paints. Greatly enjoys romcoms.

Twilight

Next oldest at 21. He's from Ordon which is an occupied territory of Hyrule

High school dropout/teenage runaway. Has his GED.

Orphaned, found by Rusl when Rusl was out on a monster hunt. Raised by Rusl and Uli.

Ran away at 16 after fucking around with dark magic and finding out. Saw Some Shit. Still has nightmares. He's still in contact with Rusl and Uli and they know he's safe but he's doing some "soul searching" and so hasn't gone home.

The dark magic let him go to the spirit realm. He can turn into the wolf as a result (and has to bc he gets grouchy if he's Hylian for too long). Some of his keen hearing/smelling carries over. Can see spirits. Nobody knows yet.

Tried to make a living at first as a freelance monster hunter. Got his ass handed to him a few times. Eventually blew into town as a very hungry/sick 17-yo and wound up at Lon-Lon looking for work

He doesn't feel like he deserves Time and Malon's love but they care for him like he's their own kid. He's always working extra hard to try and make up for it.

Missing his left arm from the shoulder down. Lost it to the monster that attacked his village shortly before Rusl found him.

Does not like when people offer their help when it comes to his arm. He will let them know when he needs a hand (kek).

Extremely fond of and good with animals. Also really strong once he got healthy again. Very capable on horseback, adores cats.

When he can't be found at the creek or stables, he can be found sleeping in various places around the farm. Always has cats on/following him.

Reads a lot, draws too. Fishes often. Works on his truck with Malon and Four.

Looks up to Time, best bros forever with Wars, very close with Wild

we share the same brain!! actually working on the cat au ask right now, but have a few irl emergencies that prevented my writing, and here’s a little bit of it! but first let me just say this is 100% my thought process if you and rook have yet to neuter the kitties. oatmeal and nebula have a romeo and juliet love story! \(//∇//)\ more under cut! this isn’t canon in the au or anything but a fun concept!!

Malleus Draconia - As Leona argues with him half his brain has melted to this is the greatest cat. Cat precious. My firstborn is the best in this world. The other half of him smugly picks up his son in his own arm, the cat against his own bicep as he begins talking about how regal he is. Honestly, his cat is just happy to spend time with him and begins playfully nipping at him after not getting enough attention.”

anyways back to the ask!! I’d like to imagine if that actually happened then leona would freak out at malleus, while malleus is shocked he is getting his first grandchild with you already as you reiterate that is a cat, and you both are not married. he’s not listening, to you or leona. they end up being that in law family that despise one another thoroughly like my child is too good for your child but i don’t want to lose custody of my grandchild. cats tend to have multiple kitties at once so im thinking depending on the amount the may definitely mean the boys now live ay Ramshackle with the kittens, with Nebula nipping at her dad proudly showing him her babies and Oatmeal showing his dad his babies too, forcing the two men to bond despite their prominent scowls, but they avoid being too loud because you remind them kittens are sensitive to noises. (。-∀-)

they’d definitely end up trying to adopt the kittens when you graduate.. but that custody battle is a talk for a different day. on the bright side Oatmeal and Nebula finally get to stay with each other openly as they raise the kitties.

Oughhhhgh Haruka getting more confident from hanging out with everyone and getting such positive feedback… I’d imagine the back to back innocent verdict and night of compliments would do wonders for his psyche ;-; And same for Muu and Amane! Minus the inno verdict, but the sudden influx of explicit compliments and acknowledgement of “hey, that was fucked up what they did to you, okay?” I wonder if there’s any awkwardness since After Pain directly follows Bring it On, but I like to imagine Fuuta and Muu have a deeper talk about things in private (and maybe Muu hesitantly mentions her involvement with Rei in preparation for INMF…)

Damn, who’s going to give the sex talk to the kids after Yuno’s vide-- Shidou. Sidou does. Without hesitation. They have to stop him because no one wants to hear it and everyone there already understands the basics.I love the idea of she, Mahiru, Muu, and designer Mikoto chatting about everyone’s fashion sense (I can imagine them poking fun at Fuuta’s tracksuit and Shidou’s patterned shirts.) And planning shopping trips that include everyone!!! Amane and Kotoko are given no choice in the matter, and a lot of the guys are genuinely interested in coming along.

Awww, I love the thought of Haruka getting into a “boy” interest with Fuuta and Mikoto -- he never knew what it was like to have brothers but he’s really enjoying it <3 (Also I’m cracking up over Fuuta trying desperately to convince them “it’s not cringe!!!”)

ASDFSDF Mappi just straight up sobbing and Mikoto handing her tissues 😂 But yes, she also gets choked up during Magic and Amane can’t figure out why. This begins the adults’ efforts to get her out of whatever situation she’s currently in (which Jackalope was already half-working on, but is definitely spurred on by several angry almost-murderers demanding he get it done now.)

I do like that idea of Red more comfortable with showing skin than Blue. (I know people are very emotional about the stalker theory, but I personally never took it in a harmful way. I always enjoyed how it was a symbol of stripping away everything else until you’re left with your true, whole self.) So I like to think that Blue feels too exposed, but Red/Green are the ones who pitched it in a symbolic sense! 

I’m losing my mind at Kotoko/Kazui/Red talking about sparring. Everyone else is like “hell yeah, let’s see it!” and Shidou just sitting there like “you all are going to be the death of me. You are NOT fighting.” Because I really want to think about it happening, I’ll say they manage to sneak away at least once and nearly break a prop in the process, to which even Jackalope shuts them down.

I think they all manage to get pretty serious again by the time T2 rolls around, but the hiatus is filled with a lot of sweet moments and healing conversations between everyone. Also, making so many plans for the future helps keep them sane when some of the project immersion gets a bit too real. Whenever they start realizing they might be condemned for their actions and worried that they’re too broken/they’re life is ruined, they come back to those plans and relax a bit.

Absolutely no pressure, but I would love to hear your T2 thoughts! 👀👀👀 I’m so incredibly grateful you’ve taken the time to share your ideas -- from the very beginning this au has been a big collaboration, so it’s super fun bouncing ideas around :D

Swap au Kim gets drunk and there's a sweet spot in which he's having the time of his life and manages to forget all that's fucked up in his existence just going with the flow and everyone besides him no matter who they are and how the treat him, but less drunk than that and he'll get sober too soon and everythings gonna hit him all at once making him feel twice as miserable, or he'll get even more drunk to the point it completely switches and the happiness and getting along with whoevers nearby morphs into over trusting and sad and as soon as someone is like "look man you're not fine you should go home" he takes it too personal and won't be against getting into fights

thank you so so much !! i really like the idea of the fears being closer than most people think, so that avatars may display traits that dont always align to the "god" they believe is sponsoring them. so hes not necessarily "web" its more like ... he is displaying traits of fear that are divided somewhat arbitrarily? into the eye and the spider...

ok i just realized this is hard to explain so here

im not actually sure this makes enough sense but ill try.... if humans group sections of colors into fears, some might overlap or they might leave out details altogether.... like if the fear of being 'owned' was where teal would be on the color wheel, it might be attributed to either the eye or the spider, depending on who you asked.... but the fears dont really work that way? its more just.... whatever type of fear you fell into, say, 'magenta', and you might exhibit those traits, which is really just whatever suits to best make the specific person monstrous. so, if someone 'became' in a murder-suicide by slowly replacing themself and their loved ones with dolls and their house slowly morphing into a dollhouse, the main fear would be something along the lines of 'people slowly not recognizing their loved ones' but also 'not recognizing themselves and their surroundings' which could be either 'spiral' or 'stranger'.... but really its just like. a flavor of fear? if that makes sense.... sorry, i just realized how hard this is to explain!!

in any case, monster jon is not only touched by almost all the fears at this point, but he is also consuming fear, which allows him to gain a variety of abilities, pushing him towards the center of the graph. i like the idea that the archivist is seen as a parasite of the other fears, consuming and becoming, which makes them more dangerous not only because of their connection to 'watching' but also all the other flavors of fear. which makes the archivist a very dangerous figure throughout history, like gertrude, and doubly so because jon also has firsthand scarring experiences with the other fears.... eventually, this jon would reach the center of the circle once he was marked by all 'flavors' of the fears through written + compelled statements + marks, allowing him to complete the ritual.

his 'becoming' is like exponential growth, so that the more 'fear' he encounters and consumes the faster he becomes powerful. since this is after the unknowing and then oliver banks, hes at a point to start 'becoming' very quickly. enough so that once he records a few statements after hes back the changes set in pretty quickly.... his jaw splits, the eyes open... etc! he does try to hide it from the others because hes afraid of their reactions and how they might react, but soon enough basira does catch a glimpse of an eye or two before he can turn away. luckily, shes disgusted enough that she allows him to continue his 'charade' of hiding under his hair and masks. this also means martin doesnt know! and neither does georgie. it also means that the whole of season 4 becomes a lot longer, with jon trying to support martin from as far away as possible, and martin becoming suspicious from the new rumors around jon and his elusiveness
