I'm so jealous of people who get so productively obsessed with The Thing and make so much stuff for it that it becomes Their Thing. I'm ngl HH/HB have interesting writing when it comes to lore and the animation and character designs are something I like..... but the actual character writing (esp in the case of. Stella) and lack of growth is kinda fucky. On one hand, we've only had a small handful of episodes when you compare it to big budget cartoons that air on TV or streaming services, but on the other it still feels like they're lacking a lil. there's also some pretty blatant cultural insensitivity issues

as for the behavior of the people on staff, most of the animators seem nice enough. Viv herself gives me the ick a little. I don't think she's the worst person in the world (I used to admire her a lot at one point), buuuut it's someone I would try to avoid. she makes me uncomfortable. the harassment and bullying is never okay though, whether it be from the creator, critics, or fans

I feel like I've been very nice about this before and I always figured it would all just disappear after a while, but this insane Ryan Guzman hatred is getting out of hand. And frankly? It is pissing me off!

So, let's get something very clear here:

This whole concept some people have in their head that Ryan is the reason why Buddie won't ever go canon? IT IS WRONG!

The man has screamed Buddie from the beginning. He came up with the name for Christ's sake. Just because some of you only joined the fandom after 7x04, doesn't mean you get to shit on this guy. You don't know the lore or the history. So shut up!

This idea that Ryan is a bad actor and he is botching up his scenes with Oliver, because Oliver clearly plays Buck as in love with Eddie?

Buck is sooo much further on the Buddie path than Eddie is. All he has time for right now is his son! Ryan is NOT going to play Eddie smitten with Buck, because he isn't there yet in the narrative. He obviously cares deeply for Buck though and we see it in everything Ryan puts into his acting. He is obviously a talented actor and artist. So again... SHUT UP!

If I see any of you threaten the man over a fucking fictional ship on a TV-show? I will report you on whichever platform you are on and I'll make sure that everyone knows who you are so they can block you accordingly. Are you insane?! You cannot threaten people for doing their job.

Stop spreading the narrative that people can't be forgiven after they apologise. What age are you? Four??? Of course people can be forgiven. It's called growth. This insane cancel-culture that has been growing rampant for the last couple of years has gone to all of your heads. Wake up and SHUT UP!

For years now this fandom has been a great place to be in. I love it here! But I've had it with the insane hate-campaigns against a guy just doing his job.

Oomph— okay people, these are my personal takes! And just know things are gonna get a bit heated. (Also!, I’d like to hear what you all dislike or hate about epic/the fandom aswell!)

Okay I’ll talk about Epic the musical as the musical itself, and then the fandom because they also help make up Epic.

Epic the musical

I honestly love this musical so much do it’s gonna be hard to find personal dislikes.

-Plotwise, I kinda dislike a the plot a bit, I don’t know why but I do dislike some of the changes made in the musical compared to the odyssey, they’re cool but sometimes I feel like it’s a bit too much. Such as the whole Poseidon stabbing thingy. (I’ve talked about this b4)

-Polites, I don’t dislike him, but I dislike how fast his character came and went, I didn’t feel sad for Polites when he died because we only had a small amount of time to know him., and Compared to Eurylochus I was devastated when he was cooked like bacon. I felt his character was just there… then continued to just be there.

-The demonstration and characterization of Telemachus, I think many can agree when I say I do not like how infantized he is portrayed, or kidlike, this has made people confused about his age, he’s 20/21 people.

-The musical sometimes Justifying Odysseus’s actions here and there and making him look real good. Of course the musical is from Odysseus’s pov so it makes sense.

Now…the fandom…..😀

-the mischaracterization of characters. Such as Eurylochus, Odysseus, Penelope, etc. they believe characters have a one track persona, and that’s it. But in reality they are all very diverse

-lying/spreading false information. I see it all the time specifically twitter and TikTok. Polites having a daughter, Penelope in wanting to get shot by the arrows, or she’s standing behind them???, Telemachus and Circe that’s not in the Odysseus it’s a different story and a modern spin of the story of Circe. And whatever made up shit some create to win arguments.

-tearing down different art styles. This really irritates me, though it’s a small majority, it’s agitating how they easily tear down lots of very talented epic animators and artists, because that artwork is their babies. It’s so disappointing to see.

-odysseus being infantised. I hate this. Some people in the fandom make him an uwu baby boy who can do no wrong and well “everyone else is at fault but Odysseus” it irritates me.

-Media illiteracy, sometimes I believe some people don’t understand the story sometimes, and how it’s supposed to be a tragedy. (This can also be in the mischaracterization idea)

-The inability to understand other perspectives. I’ve seen plenty of debates but I’ve also seen people bring down others for having differing perspectives, I’ve experienced it myself. In fact I at one point was receiving some incredibly rude stuff in my inbox for creating fun drawings of Eurylochus, and enjoying his character.

I’ve deleted both twitter snd TikTok for most of these major points. Both sites are addicting, and so very toxic based on the people on it.

Of course these certain people make the fandom look real bad, but it’s so common and popularized within the fandom.

I wanted to put this out here for folks to be aware of even though like... most of my mutuals probably know this already.

A bunch of us Solasmancers of various kinds gather together on a Discord server called The Fen'Harem. What you may not know about it is that it's probably the nicest, most chill, most supportive, friendliest online community I've ever been a part of.

No, really, we're like aggressively supportive of one another. When you're feeling down or self-critical, you will absolutely be hit with a deluge of supportive messages, digital hugs, and kind words. It's sort of incredible.

Anywho, there's a good chance if you've read more recent Solavellan (or Solas anything, really) fanfiction and sometimes fanart, you've probably come across one of the authors/artists that hangs out or lurks in our halls. You might have even come across the following tag:

#The Fen'Harem Made Me Do It

This tag's starting to see use on both AO3 and here on tumblr (maybe elsewhere like BlueSky, but I haven't checked). What it means is that the person posting likely is on that server and/or that server is directly responsible for harassing supportively inspiring that work into being.

My own fic, That Year at Arlathan University, is just one of many examples of this. For real, I would have never come up with any of these ideas without the Fen'Harem. I certainly wouldn't still be writing it without them, either. I fell back into Dragon Age fandom with Veilguard at launch; that I'm writing the same crack story almost half a year later is kind of insane. And I've genuinely made some lovely friends that will have a hard time ever getting rid of me now.

This community is incredibly talented and have helped me with innumerable things:

Getting through a very rough depressive patch with unemployment

Helping me get over my fear of writing and posting smut

Inspiring me to be more sex positive overall (which, truthfully, has had an incredibly positive impact on my health and marriage)

Giving me a group of friends I love and know are always there when I need them... and know that I'm there to do the same

I'm a community manager by trade, over ten years of it. Take it from me when I say that these sorts of communities are precious, rare, and take a lot of work to maintain, especially as safe spaces that happen to attract a lot of marginalized folks (fandom do be like that). I'm always grateful I have this place, and it's hard for me to not check in on everyone at least once a day.

(Damn I really be the only one submitting Persona 2 confessions, huh?)

Alright lads, time for the Persona 2 fandom’s occasional reminder that Jun isn’t a submissive bottom. (INHALES DEEPLY)

Jun in canon is a very capable, powerful, and intelligent person. Not only did he lead a whole entire CULT for who knows how long, but he also could beat the hell out of Tatsuya and the gang with no issue (he deadass held Tatsyua by the neck with ONE FUCKING HAND.) Not to mention that boss fight required 5 PEOPLE, (6 if you’re including Anna in that) to beat him. His ultimate persona, Chronos, is a whole ass TITAN in mythology and is technically the dad/grandad of the P2 gang’s other ultimate personas.

In terms of personality, there’s this amazing post by “maritessa” that translates some of Jun’s Japanese dialogue and reveals that not only is his speaking style more casual in Japanese compared to English (he isn’t like Yusuke in P5 where he speaks like a sickly Victorian child. Not knocking on Yusuke tho love that artistic/autistic fucker) but he’s also more authoritative, repeatedly telling the gang to stay on track and where to go next. I remember “maritessa” saying that Jun felt like the leader of the P2 gang in Innocent Sin instead of Tatsuya and I wholeheartedly agree with that.(Kind reminder that Tatsuya REALLY doesn’t know what he’s doing half the time). His voice is very deep in Japanese too which is very cool (Bryce did a good job as Jun in English too)

However despite Jun’s clear strength, intelligence, and leadership skills, he’s always headcanoned as this submissive, wimpy brat who’s only there to fawn over Tatsuya. Now, WHY has Jun been twisted into this borderline unrecognizable version of himself? Well for a number of reasons actually: he’s short, he’s gay, he has feminine looks and hobbies, has cried at least twice, y’know, completely ASININE REASONS. The amount of fics I have read where he’s this weak, overemotional BITCH that squeals every time Tatsuya so much as BREATHES or has Jun bursting into tears at the sight of a hat dropping pisses me off. And you know damn well that Jun’s always the bottom in any intimate scenes. Why? Besides the previous stated “reasons” it’s pretty simple: Tatsuya is TALLER. That’s it. Ain’t. That. Fucking. L O V E L Y.

Jun’s main shtick is he is a walking contradiction. His soft and feminine appearance/interests contradicts his authoritative, calculating, and sometimes cold personality. He’s loyal but cruel, kind but vicious, selfish yet selfless. The guy has literally gotten into fights repeatedly because he actively waits for the bullies to approach him FIRST out of underestimation before he kicks the shit out of them. Hell, that’s how Jun got into Kasugayama High in Innocent Sin IN THE FIRST PLACE. It’s a DELINQUENT SCHOOL afterall. (Meanwhile with Tatsuya he always tries to AVOID school fights after accidentally hurting a few people with his Persona, instead preferring to run away when someone challenges him) 

Jun is perfectly capable of throwing hands on his own without needing his precious Tacchi like everyone thinks he does, but little do they know that’s what he WANTS. Jun WANTS people to underestimate him so he could get an advantage and turn the tables. His “Fawn” action when talking to demons? An act. Jun knows that if he acts weak, some demons will lessen their guard around him. He is a MASTER manipulator. In fact, Jun’s so good at putting up a harmless facade that it tricks the FANS themselves, which both fascinates AND bothers me because on one hand: his talents knows no bounds, but on the other hand: I have to scroll through hundreds of people calling him a frail baby kitten even though in reality he has killed an unknown amount of people and especially started The Rapture.

In conclusion, Jun is a good character, is ACTUALLY the one who’s wearing the pants in the relationship instead of Tatsuya, and I am completely normal about the character.

I’m going to set the record straight, and I’d suggest you read carefully before making any more baseless accusations. Nurchie is an actual artist—a trained one, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in digital art and two-dimensional studies (drawing and painting) from a prestigious university. She has 16 years of professional design/digital art experience, and a publicly documented portfolio going back well before AI art even existed.

go look at her earliest work on Deviantart and you'll see how precisely detailed she draws hands, fingers, and clothing. Everything, really.

If you had bothered to do any homework, you’d see that her work reflects thousands of hours of dedicated practice and the expertise of a seasoned digital artist.

Calling her work AI generated is BEYOND insulting. it’s lazy, dismissive, and downright disrespectful to a person who has spent years honing her craft.

She doesn’t ask for clout, she doesn’t do commissions, she doesn't have a patreon or Kofi. She only made a Twitter years ago because I asked her to share her talent with the world or she wouldn't even bother.

This tendency to label any polished work as “AI” just shows ignorance, plain and simple. Real artists deserve better than to have their skills lumped in with AI machine-generated content by people who can’t tell the difference.

Each of her digital paintings takes anywhere from 30-80+ hours. For Altered State specifically, she's been working on all these art pieces for months while I've been on a posting hiatus. Her incredible work keeps me inspired; I would have literally quit ages ago. We go back and forth on details from the writing in the fic and I see these changes she makes in real time.

She paints in her limited free time for these niche fandoms because she loves the stories and wants to support the writers in it. In a world where fandom is becoming increasingly commodified, she is a rare gem.

Angry rant alert

I am so fucking tired of people drawing/writing Scar with no wheelchair.

If you're an artist, you got this far with drawing you can fucking learn how to draw one. It's not 'too hard' it's your own ignorance. I don't care if it's 'not canon' stop being a pussy and using that as an excuse and just say you don't wanna draw/write your sexy Scar that you drool over in a wheelchair because you think wheelchairs are unattractive. It's not a good look for you. If you're not doing it on purpose and it's subconscious you can unlearn ableism, I hope this is a wake up call.

I'm a wheelchair user and we already get no representation as it is. Do you know how heartbreaking it is to see like 90% of the fandom fucking ignore his wheelchair for the sake of not being bothered to learn how to draw it OR because they think it's unattractive?

Try and come up with an excuse, tell me why you think you don't have to draw/write him in a wheelchair. Yeah? You thought of one? What shitty excuse is it? Maybe it's because you're 'not talented enough' you can learn. Is it because you don't wanna be offensive and mess Something up? It's more offensive to ignore his disability. Is it because it 'wouldn't work in the fanfic/drawing' yeah well guess what? Wheelchair users have to go through that shit in real life. There is ALWAYS a way to make it work because WE have to. We have no choice. If your excuse is 'well I don't want to so I don't have to' you're openly admitting you're abelist. Maybe you're thinking 'oh well I'm not rude to disabled people' if you didn't dislike them or think disabilities are ugly tell me WHY you don't want to draw/write it then.

End of rant. Cosplayers are exempt from this, don't buy a wheelchair JUST to Cosplay. If you wanna still be mindful of his disability you could always do cosplay photos/videos sitting down, or you could make a model cane instead (which obviously isn't as good as a wheelchair and you shouldn't do that in your drawing/writing however if you're a cosplayer it shows you're still being mindful of it and not erasing it completely)

Edit because somebody is ALREADY being stupid: I don't fucking care if cc Scar said it's okay to not draw his Character in a wheelchair. Tell me why YOU don't want to. Tell me why YOU feel relief that he's said that. I wanna hear it.

Edit 2: Hopefully last edit. I've been told that apparently some people were harassed for drawing Scar in a wheelchair 'wrong' and I want to say, fuck those people for giving people a hard time. As a disabled guy I would much rather people draw wheelchairs 'wrong' than not at all. Drawing them is hard! I literally use a wheelchair and I can barely draw them! Please don't let those awful people offput you from drawing a wheelchair. If you do it and post it and people get mean about it genuinely tag me and I will take care of it. I really do feel for people who don't do it out of fear, and for you this post is irrelevant. If you're too scared because of the harassment you or someone you know has faced, please try and get over that fear but that is an actually genuinely valid reason. I really do encourage you to draw him in a wheelchair though.

Honestly those tags were meant to be a joke, to an extent. I don't really know how to describe the Mako Effect in fandom. Tlok is genrally a bit of an odd fandom to be in, because most of it seems to be so weirdly focused on Korrasami, to the point where the artist who made the recent comic about Mako and Bolin was getting harassed for only putting in one panel of them. Like there is a bit of a weird "my way or the highway" mindset. I assume its because the tlok fandom has had to deal with a lot of pushback and unfair criticism due to people not liking Korra and le homophobia, so now some people tend to overcorrect.

But going back to Mako, I guess what I'm trying to convey is that he reverses a lot of tropes that are usually given to female characters? Like first off, while men in centres of love triangles aren't unheard of, it's usually the other way round, with a female character being pursued by 2 men.

And I think people do give him at least some of the shit female characters in his situation get. People don't like that he's struggling to make a decision and dont think he 'deserves' the attention.

A turning point in Mako's perception by the fandom seems to be Korrasami going canon.

I think then Mako started getting the reversed version of ye ole "female character getting in the way of yaoi" treatment. Like I remember the weird 'headcanon' that Mako would be somehow against Korrasami, or be downright homophobic, which is odd because his canon reaction is "a little surprised but extremely supportive".

Mako also very explicitly takes on a caretaker role with others, Bolin, Korra and Wu specifically. And while that shouldn't bd gendered, this is something once again often assigned to female characters. There's a reason people joke about Mako having 'eldest daughter syndrome'. And people seem annoyed by this set of traits he exhibits too. People will constantly rag on him suddenly doting on Korra (after she was kidnapped by an unknown party and turned up battered, bruised, exhausted and starving) while he was dating Asami, or having 'no personality'. But idk man I just think he's doing his best.

People will also like... constantly discredit his skills, despite him being an really talented bender. Though this also applies to Bolin, so who knows.

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that a large chunk of the tlok fanbase likes to prop up their female characters by putting down a male character who only committed the crime of being traumatised and awkward, and I have seen this so many times with the genders reversed. It's odd lol.

“I’m glad you came to one of these things, I’ve been trying to get you to go for months.” 

Your eyes dart around the arena, trying to take in the sheer amount of people— mainly fans of your brother’s band— packed into the seats above. It had to be claustrophobic in those seats. Luckily, Harry had suggested you sit with his band in the artist section in the pit. While you appreciated the bottle service it came with, you couldn’t help but feel out of place amongst such talented people. All of them had millions to their name and you were living in a tiny apartment working a typical 9-to-5 job. 

“It’s not really my crowd.” You reply honestly, raising your glass to your lips. Even the water tasted expensive. Suddenly you were all too aware of how underdressed you were for the award show. The dress you’d picked out— your fanciest one— still didn’t compare to the designer gowns and tuxedos in the crowd around you. “Don’t you ever get overwhelmed with all of this? The people, the lights, the cameras…”

Carding his hand through his dark curls, Harry gives you a slight shake of his head. “At first, yeah. It’s tiring for sure. But you get used to it after a while.” You can’t imagine how he possibly could get used to it. One Direction’s management worked them to the bone and then some.

Louis, seated to the right of you in the red, leather booth, nudges your shoulder a bit. “I just like to imagine everyone naked. ‘Helps loads.”

Niall groans from across the table and kicks the boy’s shin under the table. “Of course you imagine them all naked, you cheeky bastard.” The brunet gives Niall an eye roll and ignores him.

“Well it does. It helps me, anyways.”

With his hands covering his face, Harry interrupts Louis. “Can you maybe not tell my sister to imagine people naked? It’s weird, thanks.”

Reclined with his arms crossed, Liam picks up on the sudden change in Harry’s mood and points it out. “What’s got your panties in a twist, then?” He sits up and waves a hand in front of your brother’s face to get him out of his thoughts. He swats Liam’s hand away dismissively and looks away from the group.

“I think I know.” Zayn watches how Harry’s eyes keep flickering over to the stage where Ashton, Luke, Calum, and Michael are preparing their gear to perform in a few minutes. Every so often, the boy on the drum kit allows his eyes to wander over to your table. “Ashton keeps lookin’ over at his sister.” 

Oh shit. 

Initially, you didn’t think sitting this close to the stage was going to cause a problem, even if your seat gave you an unobstructed view of the stage and all four of them. The hook-up happened almost a month ago, after all. He couldn’t have still been thinking about you after all that time, right? What a stupid thought that was— Ashton might have been a gentleman, but he was anything but discrete. 

“It’s just a coincidence.” Harry states calmly. He finally breaks his gaze away from the boy and looks back at his bandmates. “Besides, he has no reason to.” Liam laughs a bit under his breath and earns a death glare from your brother. “What’s so funny?”

The boy shrugs and looks away. “I don’t know, would it be that crazy if he had the hots for your sister?” 

Harry scoffs and crosses his arms defiantly. “No, but he shouldn’t.” 

Niall leans over to Louis. “He absolutely does.”

Your brother’s eyes fall on you once again. “Well, do you have anything to say?”

You stay quiet for a moment, determining how you want to respond to his question. Lying wasn’t something you two did often to each other. For the most part, your relationship as siblings was relatively strong. But you weren’t the best at hiding your guilt, so you lower your eyes and shrug. “How would I know?”

The lights in the stadium flicker. The performances of the night are about to start— the opener being 5 Seconds of Summer. Luke approaches the microphone in the front, garnering cheers from just about every person in the stadium. Placing a hand on his guitar, he begins to play the intro to their most popular song, “She Looks So Perfect” alongside Calum, plucking away at his bass, and Michael, walking around his side of the stage and leaning forward into the crowd. Ashton slams his foot down on the base drum rhythmically, admiring the crowd from behind his set up. Again, his eyes always find you.

The song gets the crowd cheering and singing quickly. You can hear the fans in the wings screaming along to the song and even some celebrities in the pit bobbing their heads along to it. You don’t blame them, the song is an earworm. 

After the song ends, however, they don’t immediately segway into their next one. Instead, the boys take out their in-ear monitors and lean into their microphones. “We’re gonna do something a little bit different today.” Luke announces, his hand wrapping around the base of his microphone.

“A song sandwich, if you will.” Michael jokes, making the others giggle. 

“A song sandwich.” Calum repeats with a giggle, glancing over towards the right side of the stage where the guitarist stands. He recenters his focus soon after. “Before we got on, we actually changed the set-list. We wanted to play three really well known songs of ours but—”

“Ashton had other plans, so we’re playing two popular songs and one song in the middle that hasn’t come out yet.” Luke interrupts, earning laughter on stage and in the crowd. The boy on the drum kit sits up a little, untying the bandana from around his forehead and shaking out his hair. The action results in a loud cheer from the wings. With a big smile on his face, he flips his hair back and drapes the cloth over his microphone. “Oh, Ash’s got something to say..”

Ashton laughs a little into the mic and tucks the wire of his monitor behind his ear. “I do. I wanna talk about it. It’s my song. I’m proud of it.” He brings a water bottle to his lips and takes a sip, leaning back to avoid the sound being picked up. He sets it down by his feet and continues. “Funny story, it took three weeks to write this song and it didn’t make it to the actual album, but we’re gonna include it in the B-Sides— right? Is that what we’re doing?” 

His eyes travel to Calum and the bassist nods in agreement. “Right, but I wrote it so quickly because something happened. I met a girl…” He pauses, knowing that the crowd would go insane hearing about his love life. Naturally, they do. “And it’s funny because I actually know her brother. We’re pretty close.”

You swear your heart stops when you hear Ashton mention that. You can feel Harry staring at you out of the corner of his eyes. Desperate to avoid his questions, you pretend to be unaffected by his words.

“And one day, maybe we got a little too close.” 

Oh my God.

“A little too close?” Michael repeats with a sly grin. 

Ashton nods in response, a nervous laugh falling from his lips. “A little too close and maybe…”

Oh. my. God.

“Maybe something happened between us...” The crowd practically explodes with screams. The drummer looks around the pit, eventually settling his gaze onto you and your brother. 

“And I wrote this song about it because I knew that no one would ever believe me when I said it. And it’s called ‘English Love Affair’, I hope you guys like it!” He settles back into his stool and waits for the whine of Michael’s guitar. Upon hearing his cue in his in-ear, he begins slamming his foot down onto the footplate of his bass drum, his drum sticks hitting the middle of the batter head. 

“It started on a weekend in May. I was looking for attention, needed intervention. Felt somebody looking at me— with a powder white complexion, feeling the connection.”

The leather of the booth squeaks as Harry shifts his weight to face you. Even his bandmates throw confused looks over at you. You urgently bring your glass of water to your lips and sip down some of the contents quietly, hoping your brother takes the hint and looks away. He does, albeit very suspiciously. The song continues to play in the background of your embarrassment. Ashton locks eyes with you.

“Dragged me out of the bar to the back seat of her car.. ”

You nearly choke on your water. Your brother is quick to jump on the opportunity to address the lyrics. “Problem?”

“Nope.” You rasp out through muffled coughs. You set down the glass and sink back into the booth. Louis elbows you and smiles. You ignore him out of pure mortification. The song continues, much to your displeasure, and you can feel eyes on you from every direction, or at least from every member of One Direction.

“Next thing we were back at her place, a hideaway in Mayfair, all the great and good there.”

At this point, the song wasn’t even discrete. He couldn’t have been a little bit vague? A few of the members give Harry a knowing look. “Mayfair.” Harry points out with a confused look on his face. “You live in Mayfair.”

“A lot of people do.” Your argument was weak and you knew it.

“Drinking all the way to third base, Princess getting naked.”

“Falling on their faces!”

“The storyline was so ridiculous, every single step had me beggin’ for the next. Before I knew it, it was serious. Dragged me up the stairs and it wasn’t ending there.”

Louis snorts at the lyrics and Harry glares at him. Harry rests his head in his hands on the table in thought. Zayn, who was waiting for your brother to look away, catches your attention from across the table. “Busted…” he whispers, making Liam laugh quietly. 

“So, when are you having him over for dinner?” Niall inquires childishly. The entire band, except for your brother and yourself, giggle incessantly. 

“Oh, come off it…” Harry mutters into his palms. Sparing yourself from the humiliation, you recenter your focus on the stage. 

“When the lights go out, she’s all I ever think about. The picture burning in my brain, kissing in the rain. No, I can’t forget my English love affair.”

“Today, I’m seven thousand miles away. The movie playing in my head of her king-sized bed means I can’t forget my English love affair.”

The song ends abruptly and to no one’s shock, the audience roars loudly. Even the other members of One Direction cheer and clap, poking fun at Harry and you. Sitting up straight, your brother faces you. 

“Y/N.” He forces a fake smile onto his face that barely conceals his horror, anger, and his confusion. 

You manage a weak nod, your cheeks the color of cherries. “Mhm…?”

“You wouldn’t happen to know anything about an English love affair? Would you?...” You shake your head immediately and he sucks in a deep breath. “‘No?’ ‘No.’ Well, please tell that to the Australian boy walking over here with flowers.” Your head whips around to find Ashton hopping off the stage with a small bouquet in his hands. Leaning over the back of the booth, he presses a kiss to your temple and drops the flowers into your lap. “Oops.” Ashton smiles mischievously at you and waves at your brother as he climbs back onto the stage and the performance continues, leaving the whole table in hysterics.

*Cough* now to get us back on track, my wacky origin story with this wacky ship: technically speaking, the 3rd anniversary update is what got me posting for the crk fandom ealier this year. I remember seeing PV and SM first meeting in Beast-Yeast and thinking "oh why do they kindaaa... U know?" then seeing PV interacts w/ SM in the quiz show segment and how he's subtly fighting back in his own way got me like "oh shit?? Can i have some more pls???"

Anyways, I remember browsing through tumblr not long after, seeing some shadowvanilla fanarts, thinking "wait, is this a ship?? Is this allowed??" and coming across the wonderful, amazing, beautiful Echo paradox AU one fateful day. I've been oar-struck with the ship ever since. All this to say, you and I are in the same boat! It's thanks to other shippers that I got sailing, my art dragging another one onboard is definitely this coming full-circle.

I'm so glad to see such a talented artist joining this shipdom, thank you! As a perpetual rarepair shipper, it's my greatest joy is to see fans express their passion for certain unknown/obscure pairings through fanart, fanfic, analysis etc and getting others sucked into the rabbit hole along the way (ah yes, spreading the brainrot muahaha yesss)

If you're talking about the one deerly depart did then I just have to laugh. Because 1. It's fabulous art and Gin always does fabulous art. And 2. I mean... have you SEEN some of gin's other stuff? That charosika piece is one of the tamer ones. Also, someone paid for it?

I mean this also happened to another artist just a few months ago. This one was I guess a known ra shipper, or at least known for their ra art rather. They've since come out as a multishipper on bsky and are very nice so I always try to give them a like and a boost where I can. Anyways, someone commissioned them for a charlastor piece and it, was, GORGEOUS! It was a nsfw piece but my god there's no denying the sheer talent. Unfortunately, two assholes felt the need to bully them on bsky about it and the piece was taken down. Thankfully the shipping communities on bsky are actually far more civil because I had actual ra shippers in that person's replies saying the same thing we say, "Block the tags and move on this is pathetic"

It was honestly very refreshing. Those shippers I respect, even if because of the ones I don't their ship gives me visceral squick. Not their fault that toxic people are into the same thing. But back to the Charosika piece, like... it's still gay; they're two hot ladies, what's the big fucking deal? It's not gay enough for them now? Or is it just that they're made that yet again; someone saw the chemistry between two characters who have NEVER interacted instead of the chemisuck that their oh so precious canon ship is? And again, I feel like the anger I tend to let out in the asks gives the impression that I hate chaggie. I don't. I really, truly don't. I hate CANON chaggie, I hate the way that the main fucking couple is so watered down you could air hazbin in Russia essentially all unedited. You couldn't do that with the owl house or Steven universe, and Hazbin is a fucking adult animated cartoon! I hate the fact that chaggie content in the fandom is honestly hard to find because I've run the numbers and more than half the fics tagged chaggie are actually stories about other ships that have Chaggie tagged even though it's just a background pairing at best. I hate that a lot of the people who might like Chaggie well enough on its own but have another otp use it to shit on others even though they're pushing a canon sapphic ship yo the side because "Ooh toxic yaoi!" And infantilize one half of a grown ass adult couple! I hate that Viv is now trying so hard to backpedal on how bad the show fucked them up in the first season by going overkill with the chaggie pda when what's really needed is to either fix the writing in their dynamic or let the fucking relationship end because from a solely writing perspective it feels so, so FORCED. Like Charlie cent let go because it's a comfortable if not perfect relationship and vaggie can't let go because this is the literal person who saved her fucking life and being with her means everything even though doing so strips vaggie of literally all character agency and personality!

Deep breaths, side tangent over. But no, my assessment that normies who know nothing about fan culture and don't care to learn because it's trendy are the reason for the rise of fandom puritainism and the obsession with the "it's canon" part of it. And fucking hell I hope they get over it soon.
