... You know when I think of the fact that Queen Victoria was 18 when she became queen. And Zuko was not even 17 when he became Fire Lord.
AND
The Fire Nation had Steam Power!!! And a global Empire!!
....
It makes me really miffed that we were denied the absolute epicness that could have been Avatar's "Victorian" Era.
Like seriously, Japanese Victorian aesthetics were fantastic!

Headcanon that after Roku died, most of his descendants denounced him and backed Sozin. Ursa was born in this environment, and grew up a lot like Mai, expected to put everything aside for her parents' political goals. She married Ozai to "restore her family's honor" in a sense.

Maiko shippers please listen to More Than I Fear You. It changed my brain chemistry and is literally one of the best things on the internet. The animatics are also a beautiful bonus.

can i ask which comics are the ones you don't like? i thought "the promise" and "the search" were pretty good, but i never read any of the ones that came after that.
I only like two Avatar comics. "Lost Adventures" because is just the characters doing their thing, and the recent "Azula In The Spirit Temple" because it was the first time in many years in which anyone on the writting team remembered "Oh yeah, Azula used to be an actual character that just happened to have a breakdown in the finale instead of a deeply offensive, ableist mockery of mentally ill people that we have be constantly physically abused when she's doing literally nothing just because mentally ill = evil"
That's not to say there aren't any good moments in the comics I didn't like, only that:
1 - There's not enough of said good moments for me to want to read it again.
2 - There are way too many HORRIBLE things in them for me to consider them canon.
I still prefer most of them to Korra though, because at least I was just angry instead of angry AND bored out of my mind.

We needed season 4 called The Book Of Air dedicated to finding the hidden descendants of air nomads (cough Ty Lee cough one of them secret tunnel folks cough) and I don't mean whatever that "bending powers in a t-shirt gun" was in Korra, the growing pains of returning home after war for EVERYONE, and an Azula gets her much needed hugs arc. They could have used Ozai loyalists as the bad guys and used nobody shoots lightning at Zuzu but me to take them down at the end.
Cause seriously Azula is a 14 year old child abuse case who got hit by the daddy's been playing you this whole time truck in the last (?) episode and she needs so much help.
And I don't mean a straight jacket and jail. Like what is even up with that in the comics? Zuko thought that was a good idea? The Zuko looking at his sobbing hysterical sister like someone just murdered a turtle-duck? The Zuko who watched Katara's homicidal revenge arc in the splash zone? The Zuko who's had the aforementioned 3 year journey into acceptance of Ozai's inability to love anything that's not himself? That Zuko?
you ever think about how Zuko had 3 years to come to terms with the fact that his father never loved him and Azula had like. two hours. like Zuko had this whole dramatic character arc where he struggled to do right and Iroh was there to support him meanwhile Ozai was like yeah here’s a hollow title shithead. gonna go burn the Earth Kingdom without you lol. if i got done dirty by my dad as bad as Azula got done i’d start shooting lightning with my hair down too.

I love how Azula was “I’m gonna take over Ba Sing Se but I’m gonna do it with culturally accurate clothing”

Katara's so valid for that. I mean, considering the Avatar is viewed as the equivalent of god... can't really blame her.

This was a shitpost, but I accidentally made it too realistic.
The shitposty part of this was supposed to be what Ceroba said in the previous comic and how absurd it was but even with it's.. yikes.
My craving for ansgt is so bad when I try to make a shitpost it becomes depressing ... (´。_。`" )

I like to think Zuko does eventually quietly hand Azula documents from the Father Lord's era that reveal how poorly the country was being run behind the war front and little Miss Hyper Efficiency Perfectionism simply can't help herself.
Like, she probably starts doing the mental math and soon she's torching her desk because, like, the Fire Nation had been on a fast track to wide spread food shortages or something.
And that would have been before Ozai's comet fueled slash and burn tactics he'd basically prompted her to voice for him. Y'all remember the Painted Lady episode right? Think of that village as just one of hundreds outside the capital or the rich people vacation hot spot of Ember Island. (he who burns the fall crops in the land he is trying to take over when the home country's productivity is being slowly smothered by the environmental impact of war has no right to be so proud of himself).
And Azula further loses it at the number of incompetent bootlickers her father had running the non-war related offices. She sends for a document or some other information and none of the old men running around bowing can answer her questions. She tells them she wouldn't trust them to keep tabs on a single toddler (Mai's parent's level of competence comes to mind) in a private palace courtyard let alone the day to day running of her country and fires most of them on the spot.... (With only minimal blue flames involved, won't Zuzu be so proud of her). Soon half the domestic affairs offices are being run by much younger people. People who almost meet her unrealistic expectations. Not surprisingly many are female. Only slightly surprisingly (given her use of the Di Li) many are colony kids of mixed heritage.
Many, many of the old regime and their sympathizers are not pleased but who's going to argue with the pet dragon keeping Fire Lord and his 'I have shot lightning with intent to kill before, hope you have the Avatar's healer girlfriend on speed dial' sister?
Azula as Zuko’s Royal Advisor is where I see her ending up after everything is said and done. And yes I am ignoring the messy trash that is the comics.
Zuko hands Azula his regency seal and then foists all his paperwork off onto her as revenge for trying to kill him. She swears up and down that this is much worse then what she put him through; he just laughs at her.

Medic Danny + DC
Danny doesn't to Phantom , as it would stand out that while Fenton is gone Phantom is at same place. And he doesn't want to fight.
While on a vacation in the States, Danny utilized his ghost ice to freeze his parents' portal, ensuring the safety of Amity Park during his absence. Just to make sure Amity Park is okay while he is gone.
With the help of Wulf's teachings, he traveled around the world using a portal, eliminating the need for a plane or expensive travel costs.
However, his travels were interrupted by the constant need to provide first aid to injured individuals in cities such as Gotham, Metropolis, Star City, Coast City, and Detroit.
Danny had to perform first aid on many people while visiting the cities.
He could say he had helped more than 200 people already. He stopped to count after helping so many people that it kind of happen so many times while the summer vacation. But was happy to be able to help them all.
Upon returning to the border of Amity Park using his portal, Danny discovered that the entire town was at peace, as the ghosts had stopped causing trouble.
As he returned home, he noticed the whole town was doing a Ba Sing Se.
Although his parents were irritated with their frozen portal, Amity Park was happier. And while his parents were angry and didn't give up trying to melt the ice. Amity Park was happier, and Danny could use his own portal to visit the zone. So he left the portal and lab on ghost ice.
However, when Danny suddenly vanished, people began to search for the small but skilled first-aid provider.
+++
After Danny was suddenly out of the radar, people noticed and started to search for the tiny, thin boy.
The people who had met Danny were really distressed by the amount of first-aid skill he possessed. It spoke of experience that someone so young shouldn't have.
Amanda Waller was pretty interested in him. After all, the boy had helped her and her daughter when they almost became casualties of a Superman vs. Brainiac fight. So she called her agents to search for the boy.
JL meeting
Green Arrow called DIBS on him, and he would sponsor him for the future when he wants to study.
Bruce himself said the same as he noticed they all talked about the same boy. Superman wanted to thank Danny because he saved many lives while Kal was busy fighting against Brainiac.
Flash only met him once, and because of how fast Barry was, he just brought the wounded to the hospital because it was much faster.
The few heroes who didn't meet him listened to them argue.
Having no idea that few villains who Danny helped too, as civilians were having a similar moment.

Suki's eyes are not green.
They are grey or when we can see them most clearly in strong daylight, they are blue.
A blue leaning in the direction of dark grey rather than bright or light blue.
But again not green.
This has been a public service announcement for fans of Avatar the last Airbender.

Read "Suki, Alone". Liked it in general. But can they please, please hire someone who knows both the show's actual events and how to follow through on a character arc? Because guys. Guys. That comic is not implying about Suki what they meant it to be implying, and all because of literally one line.
So like. From a writer's standpoint:
What they meant to do: show Suki as a community-oriented person who cares for her people, and believes in everyone succeeding together.
As opposed to (spoilers): the thief girl they set her up in contrast with, who's pretty upfront and consistent on primarily looking out for herself. She betrays Suki for one (1) corn chip to improve her own life at the prison, no surprise.
But the problem is: they give Suki an inspirational line to the effect of "we're all working together and we'll all break out together"
You know
The thing she does not do in the show
So if both the show and this comic are canon, then instead of setting up a compare/contrast with the thief girl, they've just set up a comparison. One were Suki is arguably worse, because she's been leading a significant number of prisoners on with her "we'll all fight and win our freedom together!" business, only to straight up cut them out of the escape loop and abandon them, whereas the thief is only leading Suki on in the sense that Suki keeps telling her what it's morally correct to think and confuses snide replies with agreement
My dudes. My fellow writers. You people actually being paid for this. There were so many ways to fix those awful implications against our girl's character, the simplest of which would be to not include that line. Or they could have, you know, made it canon compliant with what actually happens in the show, so that this comic doesn't set Suki up as a betrayer instead of a community builder. Like... just send all her good prison buddies off to other prisons in the wake of the warden finding out they're colluding. Have it timed to be right before the next new prisoners arrive, thus setting it immediately before the Boiling Rock episodes, so Suki didn't have anyone left in the prison she'd want to take with her on a breakout. For bonus points, include a page or two of her and her Kyoshi warriors opening up the cell of one of her prison friends post-war, thus implying she's tracking down and actually fulfilling her promises. Maybe even show her doing the same with thief girl, who was established as being imprisoned on false charges anyway, and also showing that Suki is A) the bigger person, and B) willing to acknowledge her own role in mistakes (because I cannot emphasize enough how much thief girl was not hiding her own priorities, and it was Suki who approached HER with all this, not the girl ever doing anything special to weasel her way in) (this would also open up an opportunity for paralleling Suki's earlier in-comic mistake of not listening to one of her friend's very valid thoughts and feeling, which lead to the girl leaving their island alone pre-canon; a "seeing people as they are, not what you want them to be" moment)
Anyway yeah enjoyable enough for a quick read but another one for the "this can't be canon or the characters are So Much Worse than they were in the actual show" pile
At least Aang didn't promise to murder anyone in this one

You aren't the only one.
Commentary from The Search and Smoke and Shadow
From The Search:
G: Azula has two modes- calm and crazy. We took particular care when illustrating the two. When she thinks about Ursa, she goes crazy: her pupils constrict, shadows appear under her eyes, and, when she is at her worst, even her hairstyle becomes chaotic.
GLY: In the original series, Azula was all kinds of awesome. I found her tragic character arc incredibly compelling. She began as a master manipulator bent on power. But when she finally achieved her goals, her mind broke. We gave her a split personality in order to preserve both the manipulative and lunatic halves of her identity.
M: I was concerned that depicting Azula’s fragile mental state in comic form would be difficult, but the combination of Gene’s writing and Gurihiru’s art makes it very clear when Azula is becoming unhinged. Adding Azula to the mix provided a lot of great character interactions, as well as a ticking human time bomb, so to speak.
GLY: Pretty much every one of Gurihiru’s depictions of Azula is amazing, but panel 4 here is my favorite. It’s a small drawing, but they perfectly capture her expression. You can almost hear the clicking gears of nuttiness in Azula’s head.
G: This is the corridor that was shown in the TV show. Here we can see the origins of Azula’s cruelty in her childhood. We think we were able to use light and shadow effectively in this scene.
From Smoke and Shadow:
GLY: When Mai, Tom-Tom, and their parents first appeared in "Return to Omashu", Mai wasn't all that warm to her little brother. In fact, she was willing to go along with Azula's plan to give him up to Team Avatar.
As the series progressed, however, we saw Mai opening up. She made a place in her heart for Zuko. She gathered her courage and stood up to Azula. These changes allowed her to warm up to her brother, too.
GLY: Were you surprised by Azula's appearance? I hope so. The Kemurikage are the embodiment of fear. Since Azula's most potent weapon is fear, it seemed fitting to make her the leader.
As she said in the series finale, "Trust is for fools! Fear is the only reliable way."
You know, the more I look at this, the more I really wonder if Yang just saw all of the worst takes that came from the fandom and just decided to roll with that while writing the comics.
