MORE Romantic TK Moments

A while ago, I made a post about some of what I see as the most romantic Taekook moments -- in other words, moments in which Taehyung and Jungkook have interacted in a way that it’s easy to read as romantic, or that have been romance-coded.  This post is basically the sequel to that one.

Obviously none of these things “prove” that they’re in a romantic relationship, but they are things that could be indicative of a romantic connection between them, for which romance is the easiest or most obvious explanation, or things that show their special bond and would make sense as a display or giveaway of romantic feelings.

I’ll talk a bit about each moment or type of interaction and give some context where it makes sense to do so, but as before, this post is mostly just a list for your enjoyment!

Jungkook is prone to giggling -- it’s one of his most adorable traits -- and he’ll easily laugh at any of the members when they’re acting cute or silly, but he seems especially prone to Taehyung’s antics.  Jungkook giggles at Tae even when no one else is really paying attention, thinks every little thing he does is cute or hilarious, and laughs hysterically when Taehyung is goofing off.  If Taehyung is playing around, Jungkook is giggling about it.  It’s like the dopamine just bubbles out of him whenever Taehyung is acting silly.

During the flying yoga episodes of Run BTS, when everyone was doing their individual poses, Jungkook was content to either watch from his hammock at the back of the room or follow along with the tutorial for himself, but when it was Taehyung’s turn, he hovered close by to watch, paying close attention specifically to Taehyung.  He was so focused and helicoptering so close that the photographer had to move around him at one point.

I absolutely love how visibly fond Jungkook is of Taehyung, especially in moments like this one where he isn’t the center of attention.  It’s like if he knows people are focused elsewhere, he can just be free to react naturally, and naturally for Jungkook is being fond and adoring of Tae.  In this moment, the group is doing their “For Youth” choreo, the little shoulder bounce that Tae came up with, and Taehyung is singing his part.  You can literally just watch Jungkook melt when he looks over at him.

Taehyung is pretty visibly fond of Jungkook too.  A lot of the times when Jungkook is making speeches or giving thanks at award shows, you can see Taehyung standing behind him or off to the side, completely fixated on him, so focused on listening to what he has to say and with the fondest, most attentive expression on his face.

One thing Taehyung and Jungkook can always be counted on to do together is giggle.  The way they joke around and play together has been consistent since they were literal teenagers, and they still do it now.  This is sweet no matter how you slice it, not to mention adorable, but the thing that makes it skew more romantic to me is the way they’ll make eye contact with each other when they do it.  The eye contact, the close faces, the way they’re completely tuned into each other in their own little world, all add an element of comfort and flirtation to interactions like this one.

I see Taekook’s photos of each other from their Instagrams lambasted by non-Taekookers all the time as being unduly hyped up, but to me, these photos definitely stand out as being potentially significant, and it’s all about the context.  The argument against them is that they’re just posts on social media, and social media is not an indication of any kind of relationship, romantic or otherwise.  I agree with that.

However, I feel it’s necessary to look at the context in which these photos were shared, and when I do that, I can’t deny that there’s a lot of possible significance in the fact that they were shared the way they were.  Both sets of photos were posted within the first few days that the members had their IG accounts, they were both the first photos either of them posted with another member, they were posted in the same format (solo selfie on the first slide, duo selfie on the second), and they were posted within a day of each other.

I’m not saying everyone has to see that as significant, or even that there’s only one way in which it could have been significant, but I definitely think all of that additional context adds a lot more to these photos than just being random photos posted randomly to social media with no meaning behind it.

JK singing “you are the cause of my euphoria” and pointing at Tae.  Could just be goofing off, but it’s definitely romance-coded.

The look on Tae’s face when Jungkook pulled up in the Telepathy Run BTS episode.  I mean, I don’t even know what to say about this one, y’all.  The way his face just lit up like that.  I’m so soft for this and if this doesn’t prove that they are, at the very least, friends who are completely enamored of each other, I don’t know what will.

I’ve already talked about how Jungkook thinks Taehyung is hilarious and adorable, so I won’t harp on it, but seriously, maybe this is my biased thinking presenting itself, and I do know that Jungkook is fond of all of his members, but I feel like you can really see a particular softness in Jungkook when he looks at Taehyung, even when Tae isn’t doing much in particular.

Here’s a good example of just that.  During the Busan rehearsal, Taehyung was bouncing around and being cute -- notably just for Jungkook, it seems -- and Jungkook looked at him with this huge, happy smile and giggled at his antics.  Here’s a video so you can see the whole clip.

Another good indication of a very close relationship and deep awareness of each other is the way they gravitate toward each other, turn to face each other, and stay in each other’s orbit.  It’s like they’re always paying that extra little bit of attention to each other, always hyper-aware of one another, and always at some level have a desire to be close to each other.

The below example is from after the VMAs in 2021, but there are so many examples of this.  Jungkook clinging to Tae at the Busan World Expo announcement, resting his head on Tae’s shoulder at the White House, Taehyung turning fully toward Jungkook in the Special Photo Folio Bangtan Episode that we just got, and Jungkook being attentive to what Taehyung was saying in that same episode, even though several people were talking over each other at the time, hovering around each other in the kitchen -- I could really go on and on.

They gush about each other, praise each other, and hype each other up so much.  Obviously, again, I’m not trying to say that this is behavior that’s exclusive to them, but I would say that the words they use for each other are particularly high praise.

For example, in his camping live, Jungkook called Taehyung the most handsome person he’d ever seen, and in an OT7 live from earlier this year, when Taehyung said that he wrote more than one song in just 30 minutes recently, Namjoon said, “Are you a genius?” as a way to marvel at Tae’s ability, and Jungkook answered, “He is!”

Taehyung is just as admiring of Jungkook, telling him that he’s the most talented person he’s ever known in his Winter Package voice recording to him, and calling him the best voice in Korea in the same summer package where Jungkook challenged him for his use of the word “friend” and told him to introduce him well.

Jungkook and Taehyung praise each other so often that one of my favorite TK creators Peachlesslyyy has a whole video of it, which you can watch here, if you’re interested.

Tae running his fingers through JK’s hair to wake him up in Memo 2021 is another one of those very specific moments where I don’t really have much to say about it, because it really just speaks for itself, doesn’t it?  At the very least, this shows that they have a very close bond, as Taehyung isn’t just touching Jungkook’s hair, but running his fingers through it, over his scalp, and really ruffling it.  This is quite an intimate touch.

And finally, consider it an honorable mention, but you know I had to include the hand-holding moment from the Busan concert.  I will die on this hill lmao.  I believe that out of all the moments I’ve included in both the original post and this one, this is one of just a couple of moments that happened onstage (the other being Jungkook smiling fondly at Taehyung during “For Youth”).

You are perfectly free to take nothing at all from this interaction, I get it, I really do, but like the IG photos, for me this one is all about the context.

What makes this moment feel significant to me is that it happened at the Busan concert specifically.  That was a concert that was notably almost entirely free of fanservice, especially in terms of any kind of over-the-top member interactions.  But here were Taekook, holding hands during their moment of the song, nevertheless.

Jungkook held out his hand, literally reached for Taehyung, and even though Tae visibly found a way to complete the interaction without holding Jungkook’s hand (tipping his mic to him), Jungkook didn’t drop it, literally kept his hand in the air, confident and waiting for Taehyung to take it -- which Taehyung then did, with a sweet smile, after quickly glancing back in the other direction.  You can draw your own conclusions from that progression of events, but those are the facts.

This moment, like all of these moments, can of course be interpreted in multiple ways.  None of them are, on their own, inherently romantic (which is true of any and everything we’ve seen from all of the members).  In my opinion, though, they certainly add up to create a compelling pattern.

One narrative I absolutely hate is that Instagram is more of a personal account for the boys then what Twitter and Weverse are. I know this is a narrative only spread by tkkrs, but it's annoying and honestly disappointing that they are willing to ignore all the post the boys have made in the last 8 years on, even TK's, because they got to two selcas of them on IG.

If you think about it, IG is just a combination of Weverse and Twitter. The boys have spent years commenting on each others post on Weverse, nothing different then what they are doing now on IG. Then with Twitter, the boys are posting the same kind of pics on IG that they have been on Twitter for years. The boys have always posted their music recommendations, they have always posted pictures and videos of their pets, they have always posted the little adventures they went on a daily basis. Even the things that were unique to each boy and helped army identity who made a post is the same. Jungkook continues to post boxing videos and selcas and Tae used to always post pics and clips of his face and Yeontan. Nothing has changed.

I'm almost certain that the only reason they are using IG is because it's easier, especially with the break. The fans want to know and see the boys interacting. With IG they can post comments to allude to them hanging out without actually showing anyone. Tkkrs must truly be naive to think that the boys are actually setting up "dates" where their 30+ million followers can see it. Each platform the boys use has a specific purpose and since IG basically encompasses all the traits of Weverse and Twitter, that is what they are using now, but they do still go on Weverse to interact with fans every now and then since that's the only place they can do that.

Just think about it this way, if these accounts were meant to be the boys personal accounts and has no relations to business, why were they are conveniently opened at the same time on the first day of break. Also, why would all the boys get one. Based on who's posting, it's pretty obvious that some members could care less about IG, so why get it in the first place?

Their Instagram accounts are not personal in the sense that many probably think, they are personal in the sense that they are individual and that from what we have seen they have complete control over them.

I think you're a little bit right in saying that it's sort of a hybrid between Twitter and weverse but everyone has their own account. Instagram is purely about photos, videos etc, they don't have to say anything, explain anything, just post. Yes, they are the only ones commenting on each other's posts and some of them are funny but it just proves how new the app is for some of them.

So the accounts are not personal in the sense that they post things from their personal lives, they don't post pictures with their family or of their family etc.

Each member is treating Instagram the way they treat the other apps, that's why no one is surprised that the most diligent in posting are Joon and Hobi for example, and no one is surprised that Jimin doesn't post as much as the others on it.

Funny how for tkkrs a couple of pictures are proof of a relationship but dozens of them, posted on Twitter and Weverse are proof of nothing. Or not, they are proof of fanservice.

Social Media Anon Here!

Firstly, never change Grumpy ;) you are probably the only person on Tumblr to LISTEN to another view and let it change a prejudice.

Secondly, the Padagram/Social Media change bus continues. Don't be fooled people will be looking at positive and negative reactions to that change on social media.

So here goes!

1. They are starting to market season 2 of Walker in Hiatus. That really doesn't happen. That means they know they need to target new viewers. They are acknowledging they have a problem. The main problem is Jared either didn't learn enough about production quality on SPN (Jensen/Misha were both more interested in behind the camera's) or that he thought he could stick a Stetson on and we all had such sh1t for brains we'd watch anything. So they need a viewer boost DESPARATELY and are going all out to (a) persuade Walkers remaining viewer(s) that it's worth sticking around and (b) get back old viewers or convert 1m+ viewers to season 2. So now we see all the cast (and Keegan has more followers than Jared and Lindsay has a VERY engaged following) trying to persuade their followers how fabulous Walker is. Expect this scrabbling to continue if they want their COVID paychecks.

2. Connected to 1, Jared has started trying to break out of the fandom bubble. I don't think he's trying for power couple (the clue in a power couple is that two FAMOUS people get together and create a super brand, here we have one niche C famous guy and a hanger on wife), I think we are in Jared profile raising and trying to raise his recognition score, which is probably a little low having half assed it in the last year and a half. He's doing it by scatter-gunning so I'm not sure it's going to stick.

3. Connected to 2,

(i) if I run my algorithm clean laptop with a "Jared Padalecki" news search, I get (a) a daily mail article on Jared "clarifying the rift" (b) a "hello" magazine saying he's been "inundated with support after death of "family member"" (c) the new york times article on Walker and Supernatural. It then goes into a variety of articles about Jared raising money for Holly's family (fucking atrocious in my view to use her death for publicity) and a series of derivative articles on his mantrum and later explanation. ONLY THE NEW YORK TIMES ARTICLE MENTIONS WALKER other than as a throw away, all of the others link to Supernatural only. Walker isn't on the main radar of anyone as a show. It's not mainstream enough to mention. it has ZERO buzz.

(ii) if I run the same search on my compromised tablet, I get a SEA of fluff articles "jared padalecki goes to venice", "jared padalecki's wife wishes him a happy birthday" "jared padalecki goes to watch soccer" "jared padalecki goes to the wrestling". I'm expecting "Jared Padalecki defecates regularly" tomorrow.

At the end of that I get the same articles as in (i) but the majority of his publicity is still going through the fandom and the, not very viewed, endless zine type websites that update on every episode of every geek show every day.

So we are seeing, and I expect it to continue, a break out Padalecki, (who knows he and his forehead may wish to have a final crack at films), and a fluff Padalecki, trying to stay relevant a year after SPN relevance ended, because he hasn't got the same push for season 2 of Walker as he had for season 1 and Walker has zero presence. No one, not even the fans are talking about Walker.

Will it work? I don't think so. Keegan has 7m followers on Insta and that's because he's a photographer and writer and it's interesting. I would follow his account (I don't), but certainly it isn't a Walker instagram.

Jared is a clever guy, but he's boring on social media. He has a limited appeal. He does family snaps, hunk snaps, flogs orange pee and flogs his show. He says "family" and "mantra" a lot but that's really it. The clue is, if you didn't know who he was and came across his instagram you wouldn't follow him. Why would you? For a video of a guy running up steps? A smug picture of two middle aged men trying to flog you something?... (oh and lots of "brother" comments on Keegan's social media, which is irritating. It's like he thinks that is his repeatable formula and it isn't).

His media approach won't work because advertising and exposure pushes a product. In TV's case, it's not a one off product and there is a lot of competition. Product Jared needs to be more interesting (his mantrum's are the only exciting thing about him - and that is tragic) and his TV show just needs to be BETTER, well, a LOT BETTER.

Soooo, expect the Padapush to continue, but it's not about a couple, it's about individual marketing and for Jared breaking out of SPN bubble. For Gen, it's her tag along profile that she'll never break out of. She'll have to be satisfied with her superpower of being able to persuade people to buy toothbrush's and dog food (if she can).

Expect though the couple's bit to die off a little. Jared is getting over exposed. His engagement rating is plummeting (nearly 3% is a plummet) because of the repetitive photo content. He'll have to back off or people will switch off (I have already). What makes me laugh is.... from the dawn of time when cavemen took their wives 2 miles away for a new cave weekend.... NO ONE HAS EVER BEEN INTERESTED IN SOMEONE ELSE'S HOLIDAY SNAPS.... Gen and Jared apparently need to learn that lesson...

I might stop these posts now because, well, it's gotta be a bit boring for you and I write LONG. :)

I don’t want you to ever ever change, lovely! Also, I’m NEVER bored by your messages! You put so much effort into the research you do and the messages you send and it’s appreciated! <3 

I started following Lindsey on IG because she seems pretty genuine, and her cat is way too cute! Plus, I like her attitude. I haven’t followed her for the whole Walker season, but even she doesn’t post a lot about it. She posts interviews and then posts about that night’s episode, but other than that, nothing.  Can’t speak for Keegan, but how are fans and non-fans supposed to be excited about a show when the people STARRING in the show can’t be bothered? Maybe they’re all aware of how shitty it is or maybe they’re lazy, but it doesn’t make sense. 

I’m always interested to see the difference in an “algorithm-free” setting and one that has an algorithm. I always figured Google was the same for everyone, but seeing the difference in articles you’ve outlined is insane. It really just goes to show that Jared isn’t the star that his stans think he is. He’s not as important as they think he is, he’s just an actor.  It’s even more jarring to see just how little Walker is talked about at all. All of my devices probably have been “contaminated” when it comes to algorithm so I can’t really speak personally about the public and fans talking about Walker or not talking about it. I can say that on the posts about Walker from the Supernatural Facebook page, a good chunk of the comments are people saying they stopped watching, never got into it, or thought it was trash. There are only a handful of comments talking about how they enjoy the show. 

I think it was disgusting for him to use a fan’s passing for publicity. And no, I don’t think it was anything other than a PR stunt. Her family had a GFM going that was promoted by plenty of the case INCLUDING GEN, so you know he knew about it. But for him to make his own special one and then have articles posted everywhere about how charitable he is? That’s gross PR bullshit and I hope it backfires. 

I still follow a few Supernatural fans, Jared fans, Jensen fans, etc. on Tumblr and even they aren’t mentioning it. I think maybe the hardcore Jared stans post gifsets or whatever, but I don’t see much praise for the show itself, just Jared’s looks. Even the fans aren’t biting and that would make me reevaluate everything if I was Jared.

who knows he and his forehead may wish to have a final crack at films You are on a ROLL!  Maybe I’ve become biased, but I can’t see Jared doing films. I mean, I could see him doing like a side character role or something small, but I can’t see him having a big part of a movie. Like I said, maybe that’s me being biased but I see him staying in TV. I could be proven wrong, but I don’t know. 

I agree about Jared being boring on SM. I used to get some giggles from his Twitter posts and even some of his early IG posts because they were goofy, clever, and candid. It showed his humor and was more personable. Now it’s just all fake and comes off as someone whose only motivation to engage with fans is money and that’s a big turn off. 

For me personally, I think that if instead of the “couple goals” bullshit that they try to push for their lavish trips, if they just posted cool pictures they took of different locations, activities, food or whatever, that would be more palatable than all the “Look at my hubster and I! We’re in Italy! Look at how in love we are!” But maybe that’s because I’ve become a bit of a photography nerd? 

I guess time will tell whether or not Jared will make positive changes and if Walker can be saved, but I’m not really optimistic about it.

TIFF 2020: Days 1 & 2

Films: 5 Best Film of the Day(s): One Night in Miami

One Night in Miami…: I guess you could form an argument that basing a film on a pre-existing play would make the feature easier to put together, but that wouldn’t be taking into account the tremendous differences between the mediums, their relative strengths and weaknesses. For her feature debut, the Oscar-winning actress Regina King has cinematically adapted the stage play  by Kemp Powers about a fictionalized fateful night amongst four famous Black men in 1964. Those men, Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben-Adir), Jim Brown (Aldis Hodge), Sam Cooke (Leslie Odom Jr.), and Cassius Clay (Eli Goree), are all in town ostensibly to celebrate Clay’s beatdown of Sonny Liston to first become the heavyweight champion of the world at the tender age of 22. But the film puts them all together in Malcolm X’s modest hotel room, watched over by Nation of Islam security men, to spend a night, essentially, debating the merits of what they bring to the struggle for Black equality and economic emancipation, and arguing back and forth about their distinct positions. Here is precisely where many play adaptations falter, without the dramatic friction of a live performance to power the emotional core, such conventions generally fall flat on the screen, but King’s virtuoso acting instincts serve her able cast well, and her work with DP Tami Reiker allows the film to flow, seemingly organically between its few location movements. Working from a skilled script by Powers, the celebrated figures feel three dimensional, which gives even their more didactic diatribes (Malcolm), and pithy rebuttals (Cooke) enough weight to avoid sounding contrived. The cast work wonders on the material, granting a needed organic vibe to their nonfiction characters, echoing the essences without tipping into caricature. It’s a strong debut for King, and the film’s complex ruminations on the responsibility of successful Black people towards their community as a means of bringing attention to the country’s oppression couldn’t be more on point. At one point Clay tells Cooke the four of them will always remain friends, because they are among the few who can possibly understand what it’s like to be “young, Black, famous, righteous, and unapologetic.”

Shiva Baby: Danielle (Rachel Sennott) is in the midst of having a day. Turns out Max (Danny Deferrari), the sugar daddy with whom she has frequently been visiting as part of her regular prostitution gig, is somehow a friend or cousin of the deceased at the same Shiva she has come to attend with her well-meaning, but completely overwhelming parents (Polly Draper and Fred Melamed). Omar feels guilty for having left, and suffers from having disappointed his father in the process. It doesn’t help him that the culture he finds himself in seems so foreign to him, despite his speaking flawless English. Sharrock’s brand of deadpan perfectly suits the setting, but as funny as the film can be (when asked in a culture/language class to create a sentence using the “I used to” construction, one immigrant offers “I used to be happy before I came here”), it doesn’t paint a rosy affirmation for Omar and his ilk, stuck as they are, as the title suggests, between countries and lives. At first, the film trolls Trump by a sort of subtweet level of backhandedness: Without directly naming names, Souza makes it entirely clear who he finds failing in comparison to Obama’s empathetic, engaging deportment, but by the time the film comes around to his notorious IG account, there can be no doubt the subject of his ire. And seriously how are people not questioning that she spent the entirety of her month picking TEN costumes?  Who has time for this?  I know, i know, a person whose only role in life is to play fake plus one.

I am just so tired by D in particular being utterly dragged down by the useless dead weight by his side and his team’s sole ambition to promote her and make her sound like a decent person.  

If they wanted to praise her, maybe they should have forced her to participate in the zero waste initiative instead of sitting drinking by the pool or have her volunteer to help young girls who have been kicked out of their homes, or have been raped.  Or pick any cause and truly volunteer her time to promote it.  If she is not going to actually get a job and pursue a career, please force her to do something that is actually of value and contribute something good to the world. But to praise her for picking TEN costumes?  

Praise that comes from a man who this year alone won three awards, is starring in a show he created and wrote the music for, has his first big movie premiere this week, is exec producer and star of a huge show on N/etflix, just announced his starring role with 2 A++ lists actors next spring on Broadway, celebrated the 5th anniversary of the festival he created, volunteered his time for the zero waste initiative, performed at several charity events, and was just yesterday name limited series actor of the decade.  Where is the praise for him from his “bride”?  He at least deserves it.

How do they not see how ridiculous it is for someone with D’s accomplishments in 2019 alone praise a person for purchasing TEN costumes for Halloween?  And stans, how do you accept that this is right or normal.  You really know nothing about him and have such little respect for him as a person if you continue to accept the character his idiotic team has created on his behalf.  It is so far from the person he is and that he generally holds himself out to be when given the opportunity.
