And now a rambling and too brief review of "The Outfit" by Darwyn Cooke, he which he adapts the sequel to "The Hunter" by Richard Stark, as Parker finds himself targeted by the mafia, only for him to turn the tables on them.

The Outfit. Быстрый обзор. Криминальная драма про мафию, с детективным сюжетом. Чикаго 50-х. В ателье модного закройщика тусуется мафия, используя его почтовый ящик для связи. Выясняется, что среди бандитов завёлся стукач. И начинаются смертельные танцы. Интересный, но несколько тормознутый сюжет и слишком явный акцент на личности самого закройщика, что бы не заподозрить его в каких-то делах. Первое время кажется, что закройщик пытается выжить, но чисто сюжетно, понятно что он не простой доходяга. Но увлекательно. Побольше бы динамики и может быть каких-то других сюжетных акцентов. Но кино неплохое. Was musing on that Nino sees Chloe breakdown scene you suggested and on one hand I really like it. On the other hand I kind of feel Audrey should be saved somewhat for an in person appearance perhaps. Especially as she otherwise seems to ignore Chloe.

Also cos of in light of what else we discussed regarding Andre's parenting choices... Well, imagine this.

Nino managed to swing a visit cos Gabriel is busy in meetings all afternoon, and so the boys are playing some video game or fiddling with Nino's music when Chloe just bursts in and then slams the door.

She doesn't quite look like herself though, new outfit, jewelry, oh and also looking borderline feral or nearly zoned out. She just sort of angry rants, a tone more extreme than the worst of her acting out, only to snap to something else, and then someone else. Like she's cycling through impersonations or just can't find a voice.

She can speak though, saying she needs, clothes, spare clothes, any clothes! She doesn't want to wear this anymore! She rips off the necklace and smashes it, rips the hat on her head to shreds and shrieks before peeling off with arms full of clothes and sealing herself inside the bathroom.

Nino is not sure if this is a tantrum or something significantly worse.

Adrien's both kind of lost but also determined and low key forgotten anyone is watching as he tries to talk to Chloe.

Mentioning how he hasn't heard "That voice" in a while and asking if she's wants to talk about it.

No, she doe snot want to talk about it. She does not want to do that voice. She does not want to perform this way for 'him' or anyone. She doesn't want to be 'her' anymore. She wants to be someone else, anyone else!

Nino doesn't notice a black blur zipping out of Adrien's ring to eat a nearby Akuma.

In her ranting, Chloe reveals her father had orders theoutfit gifted to her and placed on her bed with an invite to lunch. She wore it, she went, she did exactly as she always did and put on a show for him.

But it didn't feel like before, it didn't even feel like lying, it felt like wearing someone else's skin and now she can see how it looks from the outside, because she is outside it. Barely even in her own body it seems and all too aware of what it is her father wants.

What he's always seen her as, what he was trying to remind her to be. Her mother. Yet now its worse because she knows its not what it should be, she can't even lie to herself anymore, that this is what she should want or find useful, because it doesn't work.

She feels twisted and wrong and angry!

A mirror smashes and Adrien forces his way into the bathroom to find Chloe frazzled, hair in ruins, clothes shredded, herself partially dressed and her make up violently disarrayed and her hand bleeding.

Adrien freezes then steps back but opens his arms and Chloe flings herself at him, screaming into his chest.

She doesn't register Nino but Adrien briefly remembers and glances back with a terrified stare. Nino just gives him a serious nod and zips his lips before slipping out.

Slight Adrien scene musing on how he's not that good at comfort as his mother usually intuited what was wrong and otherwise cuddled till he felt better. Meanwhile he can't put words to what is wrong, or do anything about it and Chloe's response to affection oscillate wildly between clinging onto it like a life preserver and nearly panicked rejection. He's grateful that at least this time he could do this much.

Cut back to Nino who looked up Chloe's family situation on his phone as he went home.

He finds out her mother does indeed exist, is not dead like he initially assumed but seems absent. He's confused and concerned and then freezes when he sees a picture from the Style Queen Magazine. Audrey in a white and black jumpsuit, with a necklace just like Chloe's had been, matching sunglasses and hat posing with a male model, hanging off is arm like Nino had seen Chloe do with her dad so many times.

He always took it as her trying to be both a daddies girl and more mature than the, at the same time. Now he thinks he has an entirely different understanding of what it means. A part of him is grateful is is apparently 'just' a performance. Another part of him is horrified his mind even went there or that what he just saw could somehow be acceptable, because its not and-

He sees the Akuma before it gets him and Nino starts running.

He cannot, cannot let it catch him, not this time, not this way.

He promises it would stay secret and even if he has to escape Paris he is not going to break that promise.

Anything else? He can deal with later.

Or so he hopes.

Nino: "Oh, not today mother fucker." *whips out a hairspray can and a lighter*

HawkMoth: "What the FU-!"

But yes! That could work too!

I think I would have Chloé's breakdown be . . . a little less extreme? At first. Like, this is just me personally, but the reason I chose Audrey the first time, is Chloé probably has an easier time seeing Audrey as shit, considering she's often absent, and rarely if ever acts pleasant towards Chloé, so her blow up wouldn’t be as extreme, so Nino would actually stick around. Like, the scene you describe? Oh, Nino is NOT sticking around for this, this shit's all KINDS of personal, Nino has not unlocked that level of friendship yet. He is keeping his mouth shut and LEAVING.

Like, I feel Nino should be eased into realizing how awful the Parents are. Like, let's say Adrien's birthday is the point where he starts thinking, "Oh. This doesn’t feel right." It’s also the point where Chloé and Adrien might start going "Oh, someone trustworthy!" Like, not full throttle, but they stop toning down their "jokes" as much around Nino. They invite him to more things. He sees more stuff. He is not a jerk, so the Chloé and Adrien trust him more. The cycle continues.

Not sure how well I'm explaining this . . . Ok, you mentioned before dividing the seasons into "Eras of Understanding"? For Nino, specifically, I feel he needs to"levels" of understanding with both Adrien and Chloé, and they don’t happen concurrently. Like, I think you said it, (or someone else?) but Nino still has his own thoughts on Chloé. His own bias. Like, no Chloé's never been a jerk to him personally, but he's still be in the same class as her since kindergarten. He's seen how she treats others, and he isn’t a fan. But when Adrien shows up, he offers a new perspective. Chloé doesn’t treat Adrien like she treats the class. She’s actually a FRIEND to him.

When Nino starts hanging out with both of them - like, let's say after the birthday, Adrien starts inviting him along to hang with both of them. Like, before, it was just the two of them (Adrien remembers Nino's questions from the first day, even if he wasn’t a dick about it, it made him wary), but the birthday showed Adrien that Nino can totally be cool with Chloé! Sweet, now I get to hang out with BOTH my friends! For Nino, the same thing showed Chloé acting like an actual friend to Adrien, which would be the biggest knock into his bias. Like, clearly Chloé isn’t just a bitch to everyone, she actually was a good and decent friend to Adrien! Ok, maybe he misjudged her a bit! Maybe she just doesn’t really like anyone in their class, that isn’t actually a crime. Like, she doesn’t have to be RUDE about it, but still.

So, Nino hangs out with the pair more (and Sabrina, cause let's be honest, she should technically be in the Trauma Trio first, her dad ain’t great either). And the more he hangs out with them, the more he realizes Adrien's dad SUUUUUUUUUCKS. So bad. Like, his level of understanding on Adrien's situation is pretty immediate. But, regardless of how well he's now getting on with Chloé, his bias is still there, preventing him from seeing Chloé's in a similar situation. Like, it isn’t conscious! It isn’t on purpose! But Nino is dealing with YEARS of seeing Chloé one way, and maybe a few weeks or months through someone else. Chloé, at this point, confuses Nino more than anything. Because Nino's still seeing her as "Daddy's Little Girl" and "I Get Everything I Want", which makes it really weird for Nino that Chloé GETS Adrien. Chloé UNDERSTANDS Adrien and his situation far better than anyone could if they were just a bystander. And at first, Nino's chalking it up to them being childhood friends, but sometimes she'll say something that makes him go "wait, that was pretty specific". "Oh, that sounded like experience . . .". "That. That sounded PERSONAL, is Chloé ok?"

Like, Nino's teetering on realization, but his old biases are making it difficult to really grasp the scope, you know? Like, he starts to realize it’s not all sunshine and rainbows for Chloé, but Nino's trying to downplay it to himself. "Maybe her parents are just busy?" He isn’t calling Chloé a liar, and he believes her when she complains, but he wonders if it’s being exaggerated to make Adrien feel less alone? (Part of Nino is aware he's stretching at this point.)

The scene I first came up with is Nino getting smacked in the face with how "oh. Nope, apparently Chloé understands Adrien because they are in the same situation, fuck", and giving him the opportunity to offer the same support he was offering Adrien. Cause, like, I don’t think he was DENYING Chloé support, but when Nino thought it was mostly just Adrien with the crappy home life, his focus was on supporting Adrien, and seeing Chloé as another support. Now he realizes they BOTH need support.
