There is a certain genre or at least niche of ambient music that is just so….comforting? Like it’s really depressing to an extent but also feels like home. I can lose myself in the vibes and let all the emotions repressed for years and years just flow. It takes me back to being a teenager laying in bed, 3am on a school night listening to sad music, staying up so late I knew I’d hate myself in the morning, but for these hours only I exist. The world is at peace and I could lose myself in a world of music that brought out emotions that I struggled to grasp during the day. General teenage angst and feeling out of place in the world, as most do coming into the world. And I guess I never really outgrew that teen, just repressed it and moved on. But somehow hearing a song that utilizes haunting sustained chords, small notes that feel like whispers in an abandoned building, reverberation that surrounds you like a blanket, it just feels like belonging.

That night, I caught inspiration and decided to make a sketch of the text that was built in my head:

18 p.m. A lonely surf, a cool wind that chills to the goosebumps, the cry of seagulls in the remote distance.

He was standing by the lighthouse, old and rusty. A tall man with the eyes of a falcon. He stood motionless, noiselessly, looking at the endless horizon line that was being obscured by a thick fog. His bruises under his eyes were like a moonlit night, making it clear that his dreams were restless, and it was impossible to find peace inside.

Cold hands dug into the pockets of his jacket in the hope of getting at least a little warmth. The mask let in the prickly cold air and the sea scent. It was an evening of peace. Loneliness. He didn't think about anything except how he wanted to put life on pause.

Suddenly, someone's hand slowly rested on his heavy shoulder, and a barely perceptible warmth ran along his side.

Soap: Are you all right, Lieutenant...?

He was silent. His eyes became empty and glassy from the cold air, but he continued to stare into the distance like a mute. MakTavish pursed his lips and turned his blue eyes to the vast expanses of the sea valley, without removing his hand from the man's shoulder.

Ghost: These waves remind me... of them...

Soap took his hand off his shoulder and exhaled softly through his nose, staying close. He, too, began to feel the weight that hung over the Ghost.

Soap: Simon.... What do you mean?

He asked softly, lowering his eyes to the Lieutenant's rough elbow next to him, as his hands were hidden. The ghost was silent for a minute, until he decided not to speak again.

Ghost: You... There were exactly the same waves in your eyes

There was silence and only the sound of rough waves complemented it. Soap's brows furrowed a little, something inside contracted, but he couldn't show it so clearly. His arm gently wrapped around Simon's shoulders.

Ghost: I hope you're happy now, Johnny....

A hoarse voice broke through the man's lips, it was a matter of minutes when he finally accepted what had happened. Bitterness flowed through his veins, and his teeth bit through his own lips, releasing drops of blood.

Ghost: The eyes were the same blue, and the body was as icy as those waves...

Soap's hand was getting lighter, and the warmth from his hands was disappearing on Simon's shoulders. He mingled with the wind, but remained close to the Ghost, even if they were separated by such a line as life and death.
