Shuffle your favorite playlist and post the first five songs that come up. Then copy/paste this ask to your favorite mutuals. 💌
I couldn't choose between playlists so you get the twice the amount of songs.
songs I'm vibing with right now playlist:
Scared of the Dark (Lil Wayne/Into the Spider-Verse) || Queen of Kings (Alessandra) || Paralyzer (Finger Eleven) || I Wanna Get Better (ATC) || Blood // Water (grandson)
songs that are just from musicals or movies that i like to sing to:
El Tango de Roxanne (Moulin Rouge) || What is This Feeling? (Wicked)|| Who I'd Be (Shrek) || Music of the Night (Phantom of the Opera) || A Star is Born (Hercules)
also while i'm here, i'll proudly say that i'm terrible at making playlists and i'm the person that just puts vaguely similar songs in playlists and then i just shuffle every playlist when i listen to them. there is no order in my playlists
#ask with hope#cakemoney#also because you just asked in a reblog tag i'm answering here#there are three drawers in the fridge#usually the highest one is the smallest and that's the cheese and sandwich meat drawer#then it's the veggies drawer and fruit drawer at the bottom#except my bf and i usually put the fruit on the middle shelf because we'll forget its there if its not directly in our line of sight

My biggest hangup with cooking vegetables with my dinners is that it’s impossible to purchase one portion of most veggies. Like, eating by myself, I’ll never need an *entire* sliced onion, or whatever number of veggies get bundled into one purchase, like a bag of green beans. How can I work around this so I’m not wasting money by using half a product and then letting the rest go bad?
2 things.
First: Do you have access to refrigeration?
If you have a fridge, you can put the green beans in the fridge to prolong their life.
If you have a fridge, you can cook enough food for 3-4 meals and then before sitting down to eat your portion of dinner, put the extra meals in an airtight-sealed storage container in the fridge so you can eat it for lunch tomorrow & dinner the next day.
Most cooked food is good for like, 4-5 days in the fridge. Having leftovers available means I don't have to cook tomorrow, I can just scoop some into a bowl, put the rest back, and reheat what's in my bowl using a microwave or stovetop pan.
If you don't have access to refrigeration, come back and we'll talk about options.
--
Second: "I’ll never need an entire sliced onion"
..... wwwwwwhaet? Hi, my name's bewilderment, nice to meet you. What on earth are you talking about?
Eating an entire onion is fine. You're allowed. Onions are tasty. You can also eat raw onion on salads, tacos, & various other shit.
I've never encountered a casual dinner recipe that could be ruined by cooking a whole onion instead of half of one.
You're allowed to eat a meal that's just a huge pile of cooked onions & green beans with spices on it. It's great. There are no food cops that will materialize at your door to stop you.
You're also allowed to eat just an entire can of green beans as a meal, or just a whole bag of carrots.
You're also allowed to cook your whole sliced onion, and use some of the cooked slices in tonight's meal, and store half of the cooked onion in the fridge to drop into a noodle dish tomorrow night.
You can also cut the onion in half, use half of it tonight, and half of it tomorrow. Leftover raw ingredients are also an option.
--
I guess I'm a little confused why you're holding on to produce and not eating it - or you're buying so much produce that you can't eat it all in 1 week.
Fresh produce should get priority when choosing what to eat. If there's fresh veggies & fruit available, every meal should include some.
Stir Frying uses a lot of fresh veggies all at once, so is a good option if you need to quickly use it up.
There's loads and loads and loads of vegetable-heavy recipes available online. Write down what ingredients you have a lot of and look for recipes that include them.
Making SOUP can also use basically ALL your remaining veggies, if they're reaching the end of their lifespan. Soup broth can be frozen for months.
You can also chop a bunch of veggies into itty bitty bits, dump the whole pile into pan with some oil, fry until they start to change color & soften, then dump in a can of diced tomatoes & a shitload of herbs and spices to make Sauce to use.
For the rest of the week, all you need to do is cook some noodles, meat, or hell - bigger chunks of vegetables!
--
If you have a hard time remembering when a vegetable might go bad, or keep forgetting you have a vegetable so it sits in the fridge till it rots - stick a whiteboard to your fridge, with a dry-erase marker.
Write the NAME of the veggies and the DATE you put them in, and the DATE you need to eat it before.
When figuring out what to cook check that list and pick 1-2 of the oldest veggies so you can use them up before they go bad.
--
If the problem is forgetting your veggies exist when they're out of sight in the bottom drawers of the fridge, then don't put them in there!
For a long time, I put most of my veggies in the little shelves on the fridge door, and put all my sauces in the bottom drawers, so I could immediately see all my produce every time I opened the fridge.
--
My advice boils down to:
Eat larger amounts of vegetables.
Eat vegetables with more meals.
Seek out recipes that use them, if you don't know what to do with what you've got.
Use refrigeration to prolong the life of both raw ingredients and leftovers.
Make and Eat Leftovers.
Keep track of your produce better so you know what's more likely to spoil soon & can eat it before the bacteria do.

Cooking Lesson
Toki Wartooth X Fem Reader
Summary: Toki is not the best at cooking and after one more mishap during making snacks, (Y/n) decides to teach him how to cook a meal.
_______________________________________
(Y/n) turns up her nose at the smell of burning plastic once she enters the very large kitchen in Mordhaus to get a snack and a drink.
"stop burning the plastic Toki! " she scolds as the burning smell whiffs through her nostrils. "ai!" Toki yelps in surprise as he is snapped out of his daydreaming. Rushing over to look in the oven, which's once again ruined by molten plastic at the bottom of the heat source.
"nei, nei! Nots agains! Fucks!" he yells in frustration and tries to take out the mess from the oven to get rid of with charming pink oven mitts.
"I thought you were in charge of the snacks around here?" (Y/n) wanders over to the double-door fridge to get a cold soda and then approaches the kitchen part where Toki is located. If a fire breaks out, she would be here to help, (Y/n) eyes the fire extinguisher that is hanging in the corner. Not to mention that there are sprinkles installed in the kitchen after a few too many incidents.
"Toki ams in charges of snacks! But the others don'ts wants to eat the greens!" he explains sadly, throwing away the still smoking and charted piece of plastic with the black-as-coal corpse of some food inside.
"at leasts you dos…" he sighs and looks away almost out of shame. (Y/n) is not a picky eater at all and would eat all the exotic fruit salads that Toki is good at making. It’s cooking foods that he wasn’t very good at, or he loses his patience with cooking foods most likely. (Y/n) opens her can of soda, takes one chug of it and thinks hard. Despite having her own room in Mordhaus, (Y/n) still lives in her own place in a dingy apartment in the nearest town. Completely self-sustainable and independent for years since moving out. The band is fascinated with the fact that (Y/n) is an adult who owns a license and can cook her own food. "you know what Toki? I can help you make snacks. In fact, I can even teach you how to cook." she suggests and helps the rhythm guitarist with cleaning the leftover mess up a bit. Upon the suggestion of assistance, Toki looks at (Y/n) with wonder "You can cooks?" He asks in astonishment, causing (Y/n) to chuckle. She never fails to surprise the band member every time with her domestic skills. "Sure I can!” (Y/n) smiles at him. “And I will teach you the basics if you wanna make good snacks." Toki nods excitedly in response to (Y/n). It is a great opportunity to spend more time with his friend, and she gets to teach him her ways of cooking food! That’s a double win for him.
"Great! How about we start right away. We're in the kitchen right now anyway. " (Y/n) grins and takes the moment to drink the rest of her soda and throw the can away to get started together with the rhythm guitarist.
~~~~
"First things first, we gather the tools we need to cook. You know pot pans and a spatula of sorts." (Y/n) explains to Toki, opening a low cupboard and taking out the pans that she would need for a dish that she plans to teach Toki. A very simple meal that shows the basics, should be right to teach for the first cooking lesson.
"Okay." Toki inspects (Y/n)’s movements before following and opening a drawer to get some cooking tools.
"We are going to make something basic, just some pork and cooked veggies and potatoes, that should be nice for the very first lesson." (Y/n) says, picking up the ingredients from the fridge that she needs for the tutorial that she is about to perform for the rhythm guitarist.
"If you can get a cutting board for me?" (Y/n) requests politely, Toki goes to look for a cutting plank to cut the green beans. He finds one and brings it over back to her, the smile on his face never fading as he places the cutting board before her dutifully.
"Okay, Here. I'm gonna let you cut the vegetables."(Y/n) instructs while handing Toki a kitchen knife to cut and then places the green beans on the cutting board. "Can you cut these, carefully?" She asks him and he nods in response. Toki stands before the cutting board and gets to work, gingerly cutting the green beans into niche little pieces, just as she had asked. (Y/n) watches for a moment and then retrieves a pot to fill it with water and let it boil for the green beans and potatoes.
(Y/n) lets the water boil while taking a moment to stare at the back of the guitarist’s head and takes notice of something. She digs into her pocket and takes a hair-band from her pocket, she stands behind him and gently gathers his hair in one hand.
"Hm? Whats are you doings." Toki questions while momentarily stopping the knife, trying to turn back to see what (Y/n) is doing with his locks.
"Pay attention Toki! You’re holding a knife.” (Y/n) scolds in a rather playful tone. We don't want hair in the food do we?" She says, taking the hair-tie and putting all of Toki's hair in a loose ponytail that falls down his back neatly.
"There." She smirks at her accomplishment. It took a lot of trial and error for her to figure out why there was always hair in her food, long hair should remain tied while working with food. Toki is now sporting a low ponytail and It looks rather cute.
(Y/n) turns back to her own work of her own work, gathering the pork burgers and some oil to put in the pan. The stoves in Mordhaus are pretty brutal and they heat things up a whole lot faster than (Y/n)’s own stove at home.
"Ouchies!" Toki suddenly yelps in pain, the knife clatters on the metal counter as he drops it instinctively. Flinching back from the counter and clutching his right wrist tightly.
(Y/n) jumps at the sound of her friend yelling, seemingly in pain. She already concludes that Toki must have accidentally cut himself while cutting the vegetables. She feels partly responsible for this incident now.
"Toki, I told you to be careful!" She scolds quietly and gingerly grabs his hands to make him let go of his own wrist to take a look at what he did. It’s not the worst thing in the world that (Y/n) has seen. Then again, a musician’s hands and fingers are sacred. There is only a single cut, that slices over the back of his index and middle finger. Toki hisses as it’s bleeding quite hard.
"Hold it." (Y/n) turns back away and gets the first-aid kit that should be lying around here somewhere. Luckily she was able to find one under the sink. Turning back to a panicked-looking Toki, she waves him over. "Come here." She orders him and Toki doesn’t think twice. She grabs his wounded hand, Opening the water tap and holds his hand under the cold water to clean the cut, letting the water wash it out.
The guitarist hisses in discomfort as the water makes the cuts slightly sting. Once the blood is a bit cleaned up, (Y/n) gets two band-aids and wraps each injured finger up, dressing the little wounds up neatly.
"There, see? You're still alive." (Y/n) jokes, noticing how sad Toki looked at his now bandaged fingers.
"Shall I cut the vegetables?" (Y/n) asks and Toki nods in response, inspecting the bright blue band-aids on his fingers and stepping aside to let (Y/n) do the cutting and he simply watches. (Y/n) resumes Toki’s work, slicing the green beans into pieces, then she picks up the board and slides the vegetables into the pot with boiling water to the knife.
"I didn'ts knows cookings had so manys steps." Toki looks in awe at what (Y/n) is teaching him, peering into the pot to see the green beans be enveloped by the bubbling hot water. "This is actually a pretty basic thing to know." (Y/n) replies casually, stirring the vegetables with a spoon before returning to the cutting board to get the pre-peeled potatoes to boil as well. Toki manoeuvres around (Y/n) to keep watch, getting out of her way when she turns around.
"My parents taught me how to cook, they’re supposed to teach you everything. Didn’t yours?” (Y/n) is a little too focused on her cooking to really filter herself. And once she realises what she says, she kind of pales. Turning to look at Toki, he is staring back with a completely empty look. It’s really scary how Toki can suddenly lose all life in his eyes like that. “Oh my god! I’m so sorry. Fuck…” She quickly apologizes for being so insensitive. Toki blinks a couple of times and the life to his pale blue eyes returns, (Y/n) looks back to her cooking out of embarrassment.
(Y/n) is slightly aware of his childhood, which explains his behaviour today. But she has a hard time relating to him, her own childhood was great. Loving parents and loving siblings, still in contact today.
"Here." (Y/n) breaks the uncomfortable silence and gently takes Toki's hand, placing the spatula into his hand. "make sure that everything is cooked evenly." (Y/n) instructs as steps aside for him to take charge. motioning for Toki to try and flip over the piece of meat. "see?"
Toki successfully flips the patty over, hearing the meat sizzle from the searing heat. The guitarist smiles brightly a his accomplishment. “Looks! I dids it!” He points at the pan. “Very good! You’re getting the hang of this." (Y/n) praises with glee, patting him on the back of his shoulder. The guitar feels a sense of pride upon receiving praise from his friend. There is nothing like quality time together. "This is funs." Toki replies with a smile, cooking the patty by himself now..
"I know right. Eating a meal feels a lot more rewarding when you made it yourself. It's a handy skill to possess." (Y/n) explains, lifting the lid of one of the pots to check in on the boiling vegetables, it’s going good so far.
(Y/n) smiles, blinking at the steam that hits their face. "Alright, it's almost ready." She drops the lid on the pot. "I'll get some plates and then dinner is ready." She then moves away to gather the items she said she’d get. After the plates are prepared for a dinner for two. After baking the potatoes and the green beans were cooked, and The meals were complete.
~~~~
Once the dinner for two is done and served. Toki and (Y/n) sit down at the nearby table to try the dish that they just made together. In all honesty, for Toki the meal is amazing, probably the best meal he can remember having. he eats the pork patty with glee and (Y/n) looks upon her guitarist friend with amusement as he finishes his meal. he seems to really love it.
Of course, (Y/n) is enjoying the meal herself as well. As she had mentioned before, a meal is way more rewarding when eating. Some people think cooking is a waste of time because eating it takes about 15 minutes. Whoever thinks like that doesn’t take pride in their own creations, which is very sad.
the the green beans are perfectly boiled and the potatoes are well baked and have a crunch to them, in (Y/n)’s opinion, that’s a good thing.
"Wowee! This is so greats (Y/n)!" Toki cheers with a mouthful of food. "Be proud of yourself Toki. We made this together." (Y/n) replies with a smile, taking both hers and Toki's plates and utensils to clean them up.
"cans we do this agains sometimes? Then yous can helps me makes snacks for the others." Toki asks rather sheepishly, standing up and following (Y/n) to help her with the dishes.
"Of course, we can do this again! I'll help you become just as good at cooking as me. Maybe even better!" (Y/n) winks at the guitarist playfully, smiling cheekily at him. Toki turns cherry pink in the face at (Y/n)’s gesture, and then returns the smile.
"it's a deal then."

I like this one a lot. And I hope you do too! It’s really cute and it doesn’t have a lot of plot to be honest. It’s a simple story.
Thanks for reading.

Good morn - YIKES!
My first chore this morning was making complicated, delicious breakfast sandwiches for my son, husband, and myself. A laudable and nutritious goal, but I was hindered by discovering the veggie drawer had a layer of Slime™ in the bottom.
I pulled out all the unslimed packages (fortunately the tomatoes I needed for the sandwiches were unharmed!) and set the whole drawer aside to be cleaned later.
Later actually happened, unfortunately. The culprit turned out to be half a forgotten cucumber, which almost completely dissolved. As a farmer and parent, I have a pretty high tolerance for grossness. This was pretty bad, though. After rather a lot of wiping, rinsing, spraying, and re-wiping, the veggie drawer was once again fit to contain food. I pulled the (blameless, unsullied) fruit drawer out and cleaned underneath both of them.
Not the end of the world, certainly, but. Yeeeeegh. Not a great way to start the day.
Next project will be restoring water to my late father's house. The pump in the wellhouse had an Issue last week. My husband thinks he has the correct replacement part, and if all goes well he'll call me shortly and I can test the water inside the house while he scrutinizes the electrical switch in the wellhouse, a hundred yards away. If that doesn't fix it, we will need more expensive and complicated repairs to the pump itself. *sigh*
#farmblr#farm#home repair#why is the well so far away from the house anyway?#nobody knows#one of those late-1800s decisions#probably made sense at the time

it look me nearly 30 years but i’ve finally started doing things that make my life easier. incrementally, of course. i didn’t start doing all of this overnight. anyway, here’s some stuff i’ve learned:
i buy pre-washed/pre-cut fruits and veggies when i can so i’m more inclined to actually eat them (vs. having to wash/cut them beforehand)
also: frozen and canned fruits/veggies are good. if they fit with your lifestyle and get you to eat things that are good for you, do it
actually using the reminders app because i made it even easier for myself by adding a widget on my home screen (general rule: if you have a mental block to doing something, see if you can remove steps)
i keep notepads and sticky notes in every room in my house so i can write down things (usually groceries i need) as i remember them
i keep a bunch of plastic bags at the bottom of my bathroom and desk trash cans so i can replace them easily
i keep cleaning supplies in multiple, relevant places in my house so i’m more inclined to use them (i.e. carpet cleaner in my bedroom; sanitizer in my bathroom, etc.)
i place a bunch of small trash cans around my house where i tend to make more trash (laundry, desk, etc.) and i line them with grocery bags so i can take them out quickly when it’s trash day
my biggest organization tip (that doesn’t sound all that impressive, really) is making sure everything has a designated space. i use a lot of clear containers so i can see what’s inside and so everything has its own space, even in drawers or shelves
noise-canceling headphones are a godsend. doing laundry and dishes are excruciating and exhausting because they’re both too damn loud. i started wearing noise-cancelling headphones and i have so much energy afterward and i don’t lament the idea of having to put away my silverware lol also if i’m overstimulated from a long day of work, sometimes it’s nice to just not hear anything :^) it blew my mind how much shit my stupid brain was processing without me realizing
i have meds that are more effective if i take them at the same time every day so i set a repeating alarm to take them. that wasn’t always working so i started putting my meds in a daily pill organizer. i take them every day now because i don’t have to remove them from their various containers every time lol. every sunday i make a note to refill them for the week! and the individual days pop out so i can just grab the days i need if i’m spending a weekend away
i’ve tried to recognize where i’m imposing bizarre arbitrary rules that make my life harder. ex: for some reason i convinced myself i’m only allowed to do laundry on weekends and i’m not allowed to run small loads. that’s simply not true lol
in that vein: there is no rule that says you’re not allowed to sit down while cooking. my knees are much happier when i take a chair into the kitchen with me.
sometimes i get so depressed i struggle with hygiene. when i’m not feeling so shitty i try to stock up on things that’ll help me feel better during that time like dry shampoo, oil blotters and baby wipes.
i keep a little hygiene bag with my medical/emergency bag. it has hand lotion, chapstick, nail clippers, a small hairbrush and other things i might need to make myself more comfortable while i’m out and about (think: hangnails, chapped lips, dry skin, etc.)
i’ve struggled for a very long time with flossing because it’s awkward and difficult and sometimes painful. at the guidance of my dentist, i bought some individual flossers. still didn’t use them. wanna know why? the stupid plastic packaging was too loud. i took them all out and put them in a little glass jar so i can grab one super easy. sometimes i’ll even sit on the floor while i floss to give my knees a break.
there are literally no rules. do what you can to make things easier. there’s no one watching you, judging your every move and calling you lazy. and if anyone does call you lazy for trying to make things easier or even more comfortable, they’re not worth listening to. anyway i hope my ramble list helps at least one person lol

realizing that the whole "out of sight out of mind" thing for adhd is real has honestly changed my life because now i can alter how i do certain things so they don't leave my sight/mind and for other things i can bury them in cupboards to never be seen again which is so cool and definitely a problem for future me. I'm just happy my fruit and veggies aren't left to rot in the bottom drawer of my fridge anymore and now I can consume them all in a timely manner. the hallway closet though? i don't know what's in there. i mean i do, but i also don't.

Some things that I've changed in my environment that have SEVERELY increased my quality of life in terms of dealing with my limitations-
1. Trashcans in every room. We used to only have a kitchen trash can and a bathroom trashcan, and when you can barely get out of bed/off the couch, it's really nice having a trash can nearby.
2. The only things that go in lower cabinets are either rarely used, or something I certainly won't forget about. No food in lower cabinets EVER. (While cleaning out my kitchen in like 2020 we found things that expired in like 2009 in the bottom cabinets bc they were so underused)
3. Easily perishable or forgettable things (fruit, veggies, meat) are all eye level in the fridge/freezer/pantry. Memorable things (treats, drinks) can go lower. I also removed one of the drawers from my fridge and made that just a water bottle shelf.
4. Easy meals live in the house at all times. Frozen chicken nuggets, ramen, and canned soup are my go-tos. All of them can be microwaved and ready in under 5min.
5. I can't actually remove my cabinet doors for Reasons but if they can be, my upper cabinets stay open.
6. I got a freestanding pantry from like home depot, and that's where most of the food goes. That way it's all together and I can see it all at once.
7. Snack Box. I always forgot about my bread in the bread box because I couldn't see it, so now the bread lives in the fridge (keeps longer) and snacks live in the bread box. They're usually long keeping snacks like nuts and microwave popcorn. I also used neon stickers to label it as snack box so it draws my eye.
8. I hang ALL of my clothes that I can, and they're hung on a rack in the living room. Things in a dresser or closet would vanish for me, and I HATE folding clothes. This came in sections until I found the best solution. When I was younger we just piled clean clothes on a couch and left them. Then I started keeping clean clothes in my hamper, dirty clothes on the floor. Now I keep most clean clothes on hangers, socks and undies just tossed in some fabric storage boxes since those don't have to be seen to be remembered, and hampers are for dirty clothes only.
9. When possible, I have 2 rescue inhalers. One lives in my backpack and the other stays in the house. If I have three then I have one by my bed and one in the living room.
10. Blankets and plush toys are in arms reach of anywhere I sit for a long time. They can help my anxiety and my tics.
11. I have a one month pill organizer that uses dates not week days. I also have alarms that tell me it's time for my meds. I found voice clips of someone saying "stop what you're doing and take your meds or you'll forget" for my night meds, and a song that's like "just go take your medicine right now, I'll wait" for the morning. The pill organizer lives next to my favorite spot in the living room. Fill it up once a month and be set.
12. This is a big one- forget about "normal". So what if it's not normal for my clothes to be in the livingroom? Now that I see them I wear a bigger variety of clothes. Also- don't let people guilt you for doing what works. My refrigerator water dispenser is broken and I hate drinking water out of cups, so I get water bottles. Yes, plastic bottles are bad for the environment, but dehydration is a lot worse for my health (i have a reusable water bottle i use sometimes but i dont always have energy to fill it). If what works for you isn't like the "correct" choice, that's okay.
Take care of yourself, in whatever way works.
The was long but maybe it'll help someone else. I learned a lot of these solutions on my own once I stopped caring about "normal" and just played around to see what works.
More How To Manage ADHD
“I never remember to take out the trash until my trash can is full, at which point the trash bag is really heavy and the stuff at the bottom has been rotting a while, and it’s awful!”
Small brain: “Try to train yourself to take out the trash on certain days at certain times.”
Large brain: “Buy a tiny trash can. Now you HAVE to empty it.”

Operation Functional Home: Take Two- Day 2
Had a proper sleep in for the first time in months, was mostly lazy today.
Project of the day was cleaning and organizing the main compartment of my fridge. I bought some of those clear bins for produce, however I will still be utilizing my drawers as my fridge is small.
Top left shelf and drawer is cheese and cooking related dairy.
Top right is leftovers and must go items.
Center is spares/apple ale, the gallon of maple syrup and sides like garlic confit and salsa I will dig for in the back. Front of shelf is either quick perish produce, produce I use often, and a thawing corned beef roast (closest I could get to the bottom of the fridge)
Bottom shelf has all my eggs from my hens on the left, and the snack drawer on the right. The drawer also will hopefully help support the weight of the shelf above.
Crisper drawers have fruit on the left and veggies I have plans for on the right, ie I will go looking for the squash to make bacon sauteed squash. Sharp eyed viewers may spy my fruit dip in with the fruit drawer, I eat it with grapes, if they are together I might actually eat the grapes.
The door is a project for another day, but as it's generally organized with most common items on top shelf, random things I use sometimes in the middle, and wine/cider/herbs on bottom shelf, all I really need to do is check dates/freshness and wipe out the pockets.
Improvement tasks:
-Cleaned out the cabinet of the fridge
Maintenance
-2 loads dishes
-2 cycles of laundry including fold and put away.

Let's see.. ooh, cookie dough. We can have that for desert. ugh, most of this is either leftovers, condiments, drinks, or fridge-kept snacks..
[Leonardo opens the large drawer on the bottom of the fridge, looking in the freezer.]
Ooh, orange chicken! meat, plus if I make some rice we have most of our bases covered! I could make fruit smoothies, too..
[He puts away the pre-packaged salad, grabbing more fruit and putting the box of orange chicken on the counter. He then grabs a bag of rice from the cupboard beside it, washing it and putting it in what looked to be some sort of fancy pressure cooker.] This ought to do..
[Leonardo preheats the oven as well, then taking out two knives and cutting boards.]
You wanna work on smoothies or veggie salad? [He asks, holding out the handle of one of the knives to her.]
A puff of blue glittery smoke appears and takes the shape of a small form with clear silhouettes of horns, wings and a long tail but only a pair of big golden eyes appear clearly within the smoke shape. The eyes blink rapidly.
"Well....at least I'm consistent with my mistakes in portaling. "
WHO ARE YOU?!

[Steve]
Slowly rolling open the bottom drawer of my dresser, I sort through until I find a pair of clean black jeans. I’ve already peeled off the old bottoms and washed off my skin with a wet rag pumped with soap. Sighing, I lean against the dresser slightly as I slide the new pants on. Then, I slide the drawer closed with my foot, glancing up at myself in the mirror.
I look tired, probably more tired than I actually feel. It’s been a long day, to say the least. To be honest, I’m surprised that everything was resolved so quickly. I wasn’t too sure at all when Bucky decided that he would take over, but I guess he knew what he was doing. Poor little Willa was terrified; I never wanted to put her through any of that. It was important that she faced her fears in regards to Bucky to rekindle their relationship, but when it became so much that she actually wet herself from fear, I was seriously considering putting a cap on the whole situation.
I guess I’m just thankful it all seemed to work out in the end.
Not wanting to leave the two alone for too long in case Willa needs anything, I make sure to waste no time in getting back out of my room and down the hall. I can hear Bucky talking as I enter the living space, his tone slightly raised and softened to accommodate the young child he’s with. He stands in the kitchen over a pot of something that’s steaming; Willa sits near him on the counter, listening to the man intently. “I’ve never been much of a cook myself; Steve can tell you that. I’ve gotten better, though, ever since I was rescued and started living on my own. Hopefully this doesn’t turn out too bad,” Buck chuckles.
“What’re you guys making?” I ask as I walk over to join the two. Willa lifts her head a little bit when she hears my voice, and I smile at her. Bucky turns to me and gestures to the pot.
“I thought we could make some soup. I saw chicken and veggies in your fridge,” he explains.
Shifting over to Willa, I offer a nod, fine with the idea. The child tenses as I near her and looks up at me, her eyes wide. “I’m s-sorry,” she apologizes quickly, “I didn’t mean t-to, won’t do it again; I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay, sweetheart. I know you were scared,” I tell her reassuringly. Though the girl still seems uneasy, she says no more about it. “I’m gonna make something separate for her, since she’s still transitioning from her restricted intake at Hydra,” I explain to Bucky as I go into the fridge, retrieving the ingredients needed to make a smoothie. The brown-haired man nods, a hint of sadness in his eyes as he looks over the child in front of him.
Pulling out the blender from the cabinet above the sink, as well as a cutting board and a knife, I cut up the fruit, throwing it in the blender along with some protein powder, supplements, and yogurt. “Big noise,” Willa tells Bucky, a warning she’s gotten in the habit of giving everyone before Bruce or I turn on the blender. Buck and I both smile at her adorableness, and my friend nods at her.
“Okay, dove. Thanks for letting me know,” he plays along. Pressing down on the power button, the machine whirs to life as I glance over at Willa to see her covering her ears slightly. Just as I’m turning the blender off again, once the mixture is smooth, my phone vibrates. I pull it out of my pocket to read the screen. It’s a text from Tony in the team’s group chat.
Tony: Team meeting in 10, 50th flr- mandatory.
I raise my eyebrows at the text, wondering what it means. It’s not often that we call group meetings, especially only ten minutes in advance. “Hey Buck, Tony’s calling a meeting here in ten,” I inform him slowly. The man nods. “I don’t know what it’s about, but you and Willa can always go hang out on the balcony or something if it’s something he doesn’t want you listening in on.”
“Sounds good to me,” Buck replies as I turn to take out a clean cup from a cabinet and pour the smoothie into it, handing it to Willa.
“Thank'ou,” she cheers sweetly, bringing the cup to her mouth and taking a sip. When she lowers it back down, a thin line of the smoothie has formed on the precious child’s upper lip.
“Looks like you have a smoothie-stache, little missy,” Bucky teases, poking at the girl’s cheek. Willa giggles and I take a napkin, gently wiping off her mouth. My phone vibrates once again; this time it’s a text from Thor. Moments after, Tony responds.
Thor: I am not on your planet.
Tony: Fine. Sit this one out.
“Bucky,” a soft voice says from across the room. The three of us turn our attention over to Wanda who’s entered from the hallway. “I didn’t know you were coming over. How are you?” The older girl makes her way over to us, giving the man a slight hug.
“I’m alright. Just wanted to meet the newest member of the team,” Bucky replies with a smile, nodding at Willa. Wanda nods as he begins to add ingredients he’s been preparing to the pot.
“Do you have any idea what Stark wants to talk about?” Wanda asks me, seeming a little bit unsettled.
“No,” I sigh, wishing I could reassure my friend. “But whatever it is, we’ll handle it together, okay?” Wanda nods, leaning in to give me a half-hug as well. Then, she turns her attention to Willa, who’s still happily sipping on her smoothie.
“And how are you doing, little love?” she asks the younger girl, ruffling her hair slightly. Willa smiles up at her, the green shimmering in her eyes with affection.
“Matching,” Willa replies proudly, pointing to her shirt, then mine. I grin, nodding.
“What are you cooking? I can’t smell anything,” Wanda frowns, turning back to investigate the pot on the stove. Bucky huffs, a frown forming on his face. Wanda pushes him aside and stirs the contents a few times, a look of disapproval washing over her. “Americans have no idea how to cook,” she shakes her head, pulling some spices out of the rack beside the stove. As she shakes in various amounts of each one, the scent vividly comes to life.
“How does she do that?” Bucky asks incredulously.
“You’re no better than Vision,” Wanda sighs.
From across the room, the elevator’s bell can be heard, and soon Sam, Clint, Nat, and Bruce have all made their way out into the common space. “Hey Buck,” Clint greets. Sam, Nat, and Bruce wave over at him as well. “Haven’t seen you in a while. What’s cooking? It smells great in here.”
“That would be my doing,” Wanda grins. As I notice Willa scooting herself a tiny bit closer to me, I wrap an arm around her gently. Whenever there are more than a few people in the room, she tends to become a little bit more clingy, which I don’t blame her for. Living with so many people can become quite a lot, at times. Especially a cast of characters like this. The four who have just joined us all settle down on the couches, resuming a conversation they were probably in the middle of when they came up.
Willa leans her head slightly against me as she takes another swallow of her smoothie, her eyes scanning the room that’s now become rather loud. I lean my head down a little bit and whisper, “I’m not a big fan of meetings.” The girl nods, and I assume she maybe feels the same way.
“This is going to need to sit for at least an hour to let everything thicken,” Wanda tells Bucky in regards to his dish. He frowns again, sighing.
“I should’ve ordered a pizza,” he mumbles.
Another ring of the bell can barely be heard, and the elevator doors open again, this time revealing Tony, Peter, and Vision. The three walk in and Tony’s eyes scan from left to right, counting heads. He then nods, pleased that everyone’s in attendance. In his hands, he holds a large stack of paper. Oh boy, I think to myself. A stack like that always means something’s going down.
“Hey everyone. Hey, hi, hello- could we all zip it? We’re having a meeting here, remember?”
Slowly, the buzz of the room dies down, and Tony makes his way over to the long dining table, finding a seat at the head. Beside me, Wanda adjusts the burner to low, swallowing hard. I send her a comforting smile, and she returns it, though I can see her fear lingering in her eyes.
“Can we gather around? That’s it. Get nice and comfy,” Tony encourages us as we all start to make our way over to the table. To Tony’s right is Vision, followed by Clint, Natasha, and eventually, Bucky. Peter sits to Tony’s left, followed by Bruce, Sam, and Wanda. I wrap my other arm around Willa and lift her onto my hip, slowly walking over and taking a seat at the opposite end of the table from Tony, by Bucky and Wanda. “Oh, soldier. Didn’t see you there. Good of you to join us,” Tony nods to Bucky, causing him to stiffen slightly at the chosen nickname.
“Okay, what’s this all about?” Bruce asks somewhat impatiently.
“Yeah- c'mon, man,” Sam shakes his head, “I was just about to kick Natasha’s ass in the training room for the first time in-”
“You mean the first time ever?” Nat cuts him off with a grin. Sam scoffs and shakes his head again, but clearly knows she’s right.
“Yeah, yeah, that can wait,” Tony dismisses. “We’ve got something serious to talk about. So you all better listen up.”
Setting the stack of paper down on the table in front of him, face down, the man pulls a small cube out of his pocket. Tapping the smooth surface of the device, a blue light flashes to life, suddenly shooting an image into the air in front of Tony, like a mini projector that doesn’t need a flat surface; the screen just structures itself. It’s blank, but with a few more taps on the side of the cube, the scientist pulls up a real picture, one of a city.
“We are… the Avengers,” he begins, “a group of superheroes who have saved the day in times of mortal peril, time and time again. We fight evil, protect those who can’t protect themselves, and risk our lives routinely to get the job done, whatever it takes. We’re the good guys, and the world knows it. They love us, and they’re thankful for us.” My stomach twists as I sense can begin to sense where this might be going… somewhere different than just how much good we’ve done for the planet.
“But…?” Sam asks, also sensing that Tony has more to say.
“But, while most see us as heroes, there are some who… struggle, to accept that label,” Tony reveals.
“What label would you use, Tony?” Nat questions.
“How about, dangerous?” the man suggests, a hint of venom coating his voice. He taps the cube again; suddenly, the picture of the city has turned into a running video. On the screen, a giant green figure busts through an entire building, sending it toppling to the ground. “New York,” Tony states simply. Bruce grimaces at the sight, and I turn Willa away in my lap so that she can’t see what’s being presented to us. Tony taps the cube again, and a new video appears. “Washington D.C.” Several cars have all smashed into each other. To my left, Bucky sinks down in his chair, and I almost have the urge to tell Tony to stop. With another tap, the video shifts to an entire chunk of land being lifted into the air. “Sokovia.” The film shows people falling off the sides of the raised city, bodies piling up under crumbled buildings. Finally, Tony taps the device one last time and shows a view of a building. “Lagos.” Suddenly, a large mass of red and orange glowing light enters the shot as it’s thrown into the side of the structure. The camera zooms in on a young girl’s face, her eyes wide open and empty, all the life drained out of what’s now just her pitiful dead corpse. Hearing Wanda let out a whimper beside me, I finally decide to step in.
“Okay. That’s enough,” I say firmly. Tony switches off the cube, and the whole room seems to let out a deep breath.
“We’ve been operating for four years with no supervision. The governments of the world can no longer accept those conditions,” Tony informs us. “But, we’ve been offered a solution.” He flips over the stack of papers. “The Sokovia Accords.”
Vision takes the stack and glances over it before he passes it down to Clint. Everyone starts looking it over as it’s passed around, while Tony continues to talk.
“Approved by 117 countries, it states that the Avengers shall no longer be a private organization. Instead, we’ll operate under the supervision of a United Nations panel, only when and if that panel deems it necessary.” My eyebrows furrow in confusion as the packet is put in front of me. Bucky glances at me, the look in his eyes matching exactly how I’m feeling. This isn’t right. Then, I look to my other side, and Wanda seems to be having the same exact thoughts.
“The Avengers were formed to make the world a safer place,” I counter steadily. “I feel we’ve done that.”
“Can you tell me, Cap, where Thor is right now? If we misplaced a 30-megaton nuke, you can bet there’d be consequences,” Tony shoots back. I gaze around the room to find a mixture of expressions falling on the faces of the team. Handing our power over to politicians? Something about that just doesn’t sit right with me. “Compromise and reassurance. That’s how the world works,” Tony continues to reason. “Believe me. The government guy I spoke to, Mr. Secretary Ross, he made it very clear. This is the middle ground.”
“So, there are… contingencies?” Bruce assumes.
“Three days from now, the UN meets in Vienna to ratify the Accords,” Tony confirms. “We need to talk it over.”
“And if we come to a decision they don’t like?” Nat raises an eyebrow.
“Then we retire,” Tony tells her coldly. Nat nods, a smirk on her face, but I can tell that none of us find any actual humor in the situation.
“Tony, I don’t like this,” I start.
“You know what? I knew you’d say that, Cap, and quite frankly, I don’t love the idea of handing over the wheel to new hands, either, but sometimes we gotta make tough decisions for the greater good,” he spits through his teeth, nodding down at the little girl in my lap. I sigh, not ready to get into a conversation about Willa now; not when we clearly have other things to discuss. Luckily, Tony doesn’t go any further down that path.
“I don’t know about this, either,” Sam interjects. “We’re the ones doing the fighting. I don’t want someone else picking our battles.”
“This is the UN, Sam. It’s not like we have much of a choice,” Bruce reasons.
“Exactly. We don’t have a choice. There’s a clear answer here,” Tony agrees, nothing short of exasperated at this point. “We sign them. We give them what they want, before they take everything from us.”
“They’ll come for me?” Wanda asks meekly.
“We would protect you,” I reassure her, but it doesn’t stop her from sinking down in her chair. Willa looks around at the room, her little body beginning to shake. I’m not sure how much she’s picking up about what’s going on, but I know she can tell that a storm’s brewing among us, and however it ends, it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be peacefully.
“I have an equation,” Vision informs us.
“Oh great, this’ll clear everything up,” Sam groans.
“Ever since Mr. Stark revealed himself as Iron Man, the number of enhanced individuals presenting themselves has increased exponentially. As has the number of potentially world-ending events,” the computer-man says.
“So you’re saying it’s our fault?” I ask in confusion.
“What I’m saying is, our existence invites challenge. The challenge turns into chaos. Chaos… breeds catastrophe.”
“I think Tony’s right,” Nat says out of the blue.
“Excuse me?” the man with the glasses stutters. “Am I- did I miss something? Or did you just agree with me?”
“Oh, I wanna take it back,” Nat warns with a groan.
“No, no- there’s no taking it back. Continue,” Tony encourages.
“We need to earn their trust,” the redhead explains. “If we have one hand on the wheel, we can still steer. Staying together is more important than how we stay together.”
“I’m sorry, but… I just can’t accept that,” I say, shaking my head. Tony sighs, the annoyance growing on his face. “The safest hands are still our own. We don’t want them sending us places we don’t want to go. Or not letting us go places that we need to go.”
“Jesus, Rogers. Do you ever just think- could you ever just, even for a moment, just- just stop and listen to yourself? It’s ignorant; you’re so goddamn- no. It’s not even ignorant. It’s just reckless,” Tony grits through his teeth.
“He’s trying to keep politics out of this, Tony, don’t you see that?” Sam tries.
“There’s no sane way to keep politics out of anything! Especially not something like this,” Bruce fires back.
“Oh god,” Clint mumbles. “There’s no way this’s ending well.”
And with that, the room erupts into a whirlwind of voices, all talking over each other, all trying to press their view of the situation. I sigh, trying to find a single person to listen to, but it’s impossible. It’s not a conversation anymore; it’s a chorus of yelling.
The little body settled on my lap has begun to shake more violently, snapping me out of my thoughts. Looking down at Willa, I find that her eyes are wide with fear. This isn’t good for her; these are adult issues, things she should be removed from as best we can. “I have to go,” I shake my head, standing up with the girl in my arms. Tony glares at me, but I speak again before he can stop me. “You’ve said your piece. We can talk more later if we have to.” At that, the noise resumes, though Tony is still staring at me, his eyes narrowed in anger. Before anything more can happen, I turn and make my way out of the room.
“It’s okay, doll. We can find somewhere quieter,” I soothe as I carry Willa down the hall. She buries her face in my shoulder, only letting out a quiet whimper as a response.
We reach her bedroom and I walk in swiftly, closing the door behind us. Making my way over to the girl’s bed, I sit down, leaning back against the pillows that are propped up. Willa is curled up in a ball on my lap, her breathing becoming short and uneven.
“Hey, sweetheart,” I ease, stroking the child’s hair. She flinches slightly, a look of panic in her eyes, and I can tell that she’s just about ready to collapse into a full-blown anxiety attack. “Can you take some deep breathes for me, Willa-bug?” I ask. “In, and out,” I show her. “In, and out. There you go; you got it.”
“L-loud,” the poor kid mumbles as her shoulders curl in towards themselves, her entire frame shaking hard. “P-p-please,” she stutters, struggling to make out the word.
“‘Please’ what, sweetheart? What’s wrong?” I frown, concerned that she’s having such a hard time speaking.
“C-can’t breathe, it-… l-loud,” she hiccups, a few tears escaping her eyes.
“Oh honey,” I croon sadly, my heart aching at the sight of her crying. “It’s okay, Willa. You’re okay; it’s quiet now. It’s nice and quiet, see?” I try. But my words seem to do little to help.
Reaching over onto her nightstand, I grab her pacifier, holding it out in front of her. The girl cowers back, her repeated reaction to the object, but I know that as soon as she has it, she’ll feel better.
“It’s okay, babydoll. It won’t hurt; it helps, remember? Not gonna hurt you.” Thankfully, my reassurance seems to ease her fears ever so slightly, and she allows me to slip the nub into her mouth. Like magic, her body instantly starts to relax, and she rests against me, still shaking, but much less intensely than before.
I rock her back and forth, continuing to brush her hair down gently as we sit together in the quiet. Sighing, I think about what Tony proposed. I can see where he’s coming from, but in the end, I still don’t think it’s right. And judging by some of the other responses from the team, I’m clearly not alone. All I can hope is that things will be resolved peacefully.
Though, I have the burning feeling in the pit of my stomach that they won’t be.

Grocery Store Gardens
Did you know that if you buy just about any fresh veg from a grocery store, you can grow more of it on your own?
It’s true!
While some of these methods might not net you tons of produce, they’re a fun project and can at least save you a little in produce expenditures (and decrease waste!) if you were originally planning on throwing the seeds/butts/eyes of your fresh veggies away, here’s a chance to give them new life!
From Seed:
Trying to harvest and grow fruit and veg from seed is often the least reliable way to grow veg from supermarket produce (due to hybrids and interbreeding, which means you’re never really sure what you’re going to get-if anything- with grocery harvested seeds), but since seeds are familiar, it’s definitely worth mentioning! Seeds that are most likely to grow are those that have not been irradiated (which stops the seeds from being able to grow), and those that are fully mature (for example, colorful peppers instead of green peppers, which are not ripe enough to produce viable seeds). It is advisable to wait until the fruit/veg is very ripe or overripe before harvesting your seeds.
Tomatoes: Slice ripe tomatoes into slices, and place 4 of the slices in a gallon container of potting soil. Cover with a half inch or so more potting soil, place in a warm, sunny place, and keep moist. Seedlings should start sprouting in 7-14 days, at which time you should pull the strongest ones and re-plant them in their own pots. Once there is no longer a danger of frost, you can plant these in the ground outside or move their pots outside on a patio.
Peppers: Remove seeds from ripe (orange, yellow, or red peppers are most likely to be ripe) peppers, dry them for a few days. Once dry, test your seeds by placing them in a clear zip bag with a damp paper towel in it, and taping this to a window. The ones that sprout (time to sprouting can vary) can be moved to starting trays or their own pots. Once there is no longer a danger of frost, you can plant these in the ground outside or move the pots outside on a patio.
Winter Squash: Wait until the squash is as ripe as possible without rotting (slightly rotten is fine if you weren’t planning to eat it, or didn’t get the chance to), then remove the seeds and let dry for several days. Do as you would for peppers. Keep in mind that the squash that grow from grocery store squash seeds may be very different than the squash they came from.
Citrus fruits: Remove whole seeds from the citrus fruit of your choice, and place in a bowl of water. The ones that sink are the most developed and have the best chance of growing. Wrap in a damp paper towel and place in a clear zip bag but leave the bag slightly open. Place in a dark place (like a drawer or in your closet) for 2-6 weeks, until 2 small leaves are clearly visible. Carefully plant this tiny plant in a container of soil. Keep the soil moist. If kept well, this will form a tree that will bear fruit in 3-6 years. In a warm climate the pot can be moved outside, while in a cooler one you may want to keep your tree inside in the winter.
Avocado/Mango: Do as you would for citrus fruits, but instead of waiting for leaves, just wait until the root is about 3in long before taking it out and planting it in a pot (you will have to scrub the mango pit clean, let it dry a few days, and remove the outer part of the pit to get to the large bean-like thing in the middle, you do not have to do this for the avocado). Note that it will take about 8 years to start producing fruit, and when/if it does, it may not produce the kind of fruit you were expecting. But they do make a nice houseplant!
Stone fruits (peaches, apricots, plums, etc...): Place the pits in a small jar of dirt in your fridge for 3-4 months, until they start sprouting roots. When they begin to root, take them out of the fridge and plant them in pots. These are another 3-6 year investment, but of all the store-bought-pit-trees, these are probably going to produce fruit that is most similar to the original fruit.
From an existing base or part of the fruit/root:
Growing things from existing parts of plants will yield you a lot more consistent results and is often a lot easier than growing from seed, but it is a little more of a unique challenge!
Onion/Green onion/Celery: Cut the base off the onion or celery bunch about an inch from the roots. Set in a small, shallow container about half-full of water, coming up only a quarter to a half inch up on the base. In a few days, you’ll see shoots come up and roots start to form. Change water every day or so until there are plentiful roots, and then transplant to a container filled with potting soil, where they will continue to grow.
Turnips/Beets: Cut the root off about 2 inches below the top. Eat the root and plant the top in some potting soil so the very top is just sticking out of the soil. It will grow greens, which you can harvest and eat raw or sauté, and over time the rood will re-grow.
Potatoes/Sweet Potatoes: Wait until eyes start to form on your old potatoes. Cut them up, making sure that at least one sprouting eye is on each piece. Get a deep container like a trash can and fill the bottom 6in with gravel or rocks. Fill the container with potting soil/dirt and bury your potato pieces about an inch deep. They will shoot up leaves and stems within about a week (you can eat sweet potato leaves, but NOT white potato leaves). Place outside if it’s after the last freeze where you live or keep inside by a window. Wait about 4-5 months or until the above ground plants die, then dump out the container and find all your new potatoes! Its like a scavenger hunt!
Garlic:
Outdoor: Stick a single clove of garlic 2 inches deep in the dirt in the fall a few weeks to a month before the ground freezes. The bigger the clove, the bigger your bulb will be when you harvest. Cover with mulch or straw or cardboard or whatever you have if you live in an area with cold winters. Harvest in July/August the next year.
Indoor, for garlic greens: Plant 3-4 cloves in a pot by a sunny window. The cloves will shoot up greens within about 2 weeks, which you can cut and use like garlic.
Ginger: Essentially, take a piece of ginger with some eyes on it (more likely if it is older (but not shriveled) or organic, as conventional ginger is often treated with growth retardants which make it take a lot longer to grow) and do as suggested for avocado/mango, as above. You can harvest the above-ground shoots and it will grow more ginger below ground over time!

“Why don't we just go out to the Beehive for breakfast?” Ransom questioned with a hand on his hips while you searched the refrigerator to pull out eggs, veggies and ham. You close the door with your hip and walk around your husband with a tired sigh, setting it all out on the counter.
“Because I can just cook for us Ransom. We’ve been out every day this week, and to the Beehive Diner twice for breakfast, I just want to stay home.” You open the cupboards and search for a bowl to whisk your eggs in, and glance at Ransom who seems stuck between agreeing and making an argument that it would be easier to just go. “Besides, I'm making it, you don't have to cook Ransom. If you want to go so bad, go. But I’m staying home.”
His mouth snapped shut and a dark eyebrow arched at you while listening. You sounded tired and even though he thought it was easier to let someone else cook and bring the food to you, you seemed set on just staying home. In your oversized tee shirt that was starting to stretch a bit more over your belly and leggings. “Well I can cook if you want me to.” Ransom finally spoke up, in which You pause, and turn to face him, your hand resting on your belly. “I mean, you do it most of the time, and you are not feeling like going out. Let me.” He stepped forward, catching you by surprise, and wrapped his arms around your waist. “It's about time I learn right? When we have this kid running around, we will be staying home more.”
His logic was sound, and you wrapped your arms around the back of his neck and looked up at him, really touched at the effort he was making with all of this. Your fingers tangled at the trimmed hair along the back of his head, and nodded. “Are you sure you know what to do with all this Ransom?”
He rolled his eyes at you with an exaggerated huff escaping, even though you looked doubtful. “Y/N how many times do I have to tell you I’m not a complete invalid. I had a nanny who I watched cook omelets all the time. Whisk some eggs, add that extra crap, fold it over. Done.”
They were eggs, if he can't cook eggs then Ransom really would be hopeless you thought to yourself. “Okay, I am going to go take a shower then since you are offering.” You tilted to your tip toes and pressed a kiss to his lips. “If you need anything, get me. I swear Ransom, let's not do another roast pork in the crockpot incident.”
“Are you ever going to let that go Princess?” he huffed against your lips, and you fell back to the flat of your feet.
“Maybe next year, you did almost poison your parents after all Ransom.” Your hand slid against his chest as you pulled away with a grin.
Ransom smirked hearing you, wiggling eyebrows as you headed for the stairs. “Maybe that was actually what I was trying to do Princess.” You shook your head at him and went up slowly. Once you left, Ransom almost considered just calling for a delivery from the diner down the road. They made those omelets you so loved, which is what you seemed to be making by looking at the mix of ingredients on the counter. But you really seemed set against eating out, and that would include takeout.
“Fuck its just eggs, damn it. Your better then letting a couple fucking eggs beat you.” He approached the bowl and started to crack eggs into the bowl. Unsure of how many to do, because he had never actually cooked an omelet before, he just did the whole carton. Grabbing a small knife he had seen you use before, he started to dice the veggies, shred some of the ham and set it all aside. “Well it isn’t no Gordon Ramsey, but not’ bad.” He said out loud to himself while inspecting his handy work of wildly sized vegetables.
Now was time for the real challenge. The actual cooking of these eggs.
It took him a few minutes to get a pan that looked like it was made to cook on the stove, which he cranked on the heat and set the skillet down. While it was heating, he waited thinking that the skillet had to be sizzling before putting the eggs in. Once he saw a small curl of smoke roll out of the pan, he took the massive bowl of eggs he had diligently cracked, and tipped them into the pan.
The sizzle was immediate, egg whites started popping out of the pan from where he didn’t whisk them together enough, the smoke billowed up to fill the room and soon the eggs were boiling over the too small skillet to dry on the electric stove top, and catch on fire.
This all happened in moments. Faster than Ransom was expecting, he watched with a colorful string of curses escaping him as the orange flames crackled amid the black smoke.
“Oh you motherfucker!” He turned off the stove and searched for anything to grab the pan with. “Fuck, fuck fuck fuck, son of a bitch.” Ransom is ripping open drawers, and pawing through the cupboard at the bottom of the sink till he finds a hand towel, which he wraps around his hand. Grabbing the handle of the skillet, he shoots for the sink and dumps it all in, turning on the water. Somewhere a fire alarm is blaring and he can hear your footsteps thumping above him to go down the stairs, which he darts out of the kitchen, coughing while using the hand towel to shoo away the burnt smoke clinging to him. “Stop right there Y/N!”
You pause mid step, clutching a towel around yourself, soap still streaked along your shoulders and neck. “Ransom are you okay? Do I need to call the fire department?”
Coughing he waved his hand to have you go back upstairs. “No, it's fine, I got it. You go back to your shower.”
“I think I should really help you…” You started down the stairs, but Ransom went up a few steps to block you and turn you around.
“No, go back upstairs. Your dripping soap all over the rug.”
You try to peek over the railing into the kitchen, but he turns you around and has you start back up the stairs. “Ransom the kitchen is filled with smoke.” You try to stall but he gives you another nudge.
“It's nothing, I got this. Go finish.”
After you finally relented, sputtering all the way back up “I shouldn’t have let him in my kitchen, fuck I hope we can get someone in here to fix it. Maybe Linda knows someone”
Ransom scoffed with a “I heard that, we wouldn't use my mother… BUT THE KITCHEN IS FINE” He raised his voice while you slammed the bathroom door shut. Ransom waited a few seconds to be sure you wouldn’t try coming back down just yet. Then went back down into the kitchen, prying open some windows and went to look at the mess in the sink.
“Fucking hell, I should have just ordered in. Why the fuck didn’t I just order it in?” He heard the shower start back up, and went to the pantry instead, avoiding the stove now. Pushing stuff around while in the pantry, muttering to himself, determined not to make that phone call.
You came back down about fifteen minutes later, cautious as you stepped into the kitchen. The smell of burnt eggs clung to the air, and you started to breath subtly through your mouth, so your stomach did not turn. Ransom sat at the table and you moved over to him, slipping into his lap to see what he had set the table with. Spread out was some of your cups of yogurt, a cut up banana and bundle of grapes, along with your granola cereal.
Ransom's arm circled around your waist, and you reached for a grape, turning enough to offer it to him. “It looks really good Handsome.” You pressed the grape to his lips, and he let it slide in, chewing slowly.
“I can still order in. Twenty minutes for a hot breakfast.” He started and you shook your head, leaning forward to grab one of the yogurt cups to peel off the top as well as the granola to sprinkle in.
“Ransom, this is exactly what your spawn wants right now. Fresh fruit and yogurt. The thought of eggs is a no right now. Might be for a while…”
Ransoms head tilted back while he groaned, knowing it was because he had burned the fucking eggs. Seeing him, you laughed while mixing it up and offered him a bite.
“I am not hungry anymore.” He glared at the spoon of yogurt and you shrugged, taking it for yourself. “I think that stove is broken.”
“I think you just need some actual lessons. Which we're going to do tonight.”
That earned you another groan from Ransom while he pressed his lips to your shoulder. “Fuck it, you should have just let me order in.” he groaned against your skin while you took another bite of yogurt and granola.
