Given adequate funding, she hopes IndigeHub can build a network of food hubs across the Navajo Nation.
The hubs seek to produce, store and distribute food to the one-quarter of Native Americans experiencing food insecurity
In addition to the Navajo Nation, grassroots food hubs are also emerging in places like Arizona. The Star School, serving primarily Native American students near Flagstaff, is developing a food hub with a local food store and growing produce in a greenhouse and garden. Further to the south-west, the Nalwoodi Denzhone Community nonprofit operates a food pantry, a local food store, a community kitchen, and a regenerative farm and mobile chicken tractor on the San Carlos Apache Reservation.
“If we can build these hubs, we can fill those gaps in the food system,” said Adams.
Hill agreed, saying the food hub model is a step toward food security and food sovereignty long denied to Hopi people. “If we don’t have access to and control over the food system, our seeds, and food production,” she said, “we become extremely vulnerable”.

i wanted to share my updated web layout, since tumblr's trying to move away from the profile sites and onto the boring little blogs in the dashboard :)
i'm still using the same template i was before, but now i have a little floatie of visser three (which i commissioned from a mutual as a birthday present to myself) and i've managed to make it look even more outdated... which is my goal. after all, animorphs takes place in the era of geocities.
eventually i'll update it to something a little more personalized, a little more over the top, but for now? i think it's pretty cute :)

Nothing quite matches the frustration of having 7 papers you need in a row be behind a paywall and not on sci-hub

It also like potentially opens up the avenues for names being a status symbol... like Fabrica Whatnot's family might obviously not have the same access to old books as others
i just want you to know that this hit me like a bag of rocks and i cannot stop thinking about it.
it makes so much sense to me! i love the idea of the richer, more elite families having access to media from previous civilizations gatekeeping their knowledge and using it as a status symbol.
It also actually raises the question of the Plinths having that knowledge before getting to the Capitol. The possibility that some people in the Districts who are wealthy enough might have access to old books (or that unknown to the Capitol some old books are in the Districts), or perhaps, encountering people from the Capitol and hearing/getting a chance to read them and imitating them by giving their children names based on old stories.
Anyway, gatekeeping knowledge feels very on brand for the Capitol. I was inspired by reading about private libraries in the Italian Renaissance (although book scarcity was also like because books weren't easy to make even with printing presses), but gatekeeping knowledge is also very much a weaponized tactic now.

On your studies and research section: "Note: I would never be caught encouraging anyone to do anything unethical..." Tbh I think it's more unethical to put research behind paywalls. Why? Because scientists usually don't make money off of their publications, so they aren't really losing anything if you read it for free. As a result, surprisingly many authors are willing to send a PDF copy to you if you ask them directly via their email. They usually love receiving emails about their papers lmao.
For the record, I totally agree.
This was a tongue-in-cheek paragraph to inform people that Sci-Hub exists and how to use it.
Note: I would never be caught encouraging anyone to do anything unethical. Therefore, I am not going to advise anyone access paywalled research using Sci-Hub. For those who don’t know, Sci-Hub is a website that seeks to make all scientific research free and available to everyone, hosting upwards of 84,000,000 academic documents. Again, I cannot advise you to copy the url or DOI codes of paywalled research and paste it into Sci-Hub’s website in order to access that research for free.
When you go around making enemies, you kind of want to stay as squeaky clean as possible because people who want you banned look for the most ridiculous reasons to report you.
On the other hand, Tumblr has an entire #piracy tag with people proudly supporting pirating media.
So I'm not convinced Tumblr would actually care, which is why the newer page has a whole color for paywalled works that are sci-hub compatible.
I really do think it's a shame how publishing works, where most authors will see next to nothing for their works while publishers are able to make bank on them.
In truth, I don't believe knowledge should cost. I don't believe that research that could make the world a better place if more people had access to it should be locked behind paywalls. Knowledge is far too precious a resource to hoard for the elite.

I did not know what point nemo was so i looked it up and it is realy cool. And i love that the colosest people to that point are astrounauts on the iss and how fiting it is that the iss will chash in point nemo in 2031. From the darkness of space to darkness of ocean. I know it will probably not be filmed but it would be soo cool to se the iss chash in the ocean.
yeah! point nemo is pretty cool... i get really sad every time i remember they're decommissioning the ISS in 2031... they really don't need to, i dont think they have to,,, i love it very much bc its the one space astronauts regardless of geographical borders spend time communally watching over our beautiful planet, this marvelous blue rock, like-- that's home. it's the only one we got. and at the ISS, petty squabbles of governments and tyrants look so fucking small, astronauts have said that it is incredibly humbling and life-changing, to see the planet so.. vulnerable. it makes you want to protect it. to marvel at the beauty and terrifying endlessness of space, and know that the earth is a responsibility and one you cannot take lightly.
i feel like decommissioning a space like that is so counterproductive towards our collective growth as a species. it feels like the end of something genuinely noble, the one thing we did right and now we're stopping that too. like it's only the first steps towards capitalism in space, locking away space research that used to be done for the sake of knowledge and learning because it doesn't make money per se. its only seeing space as a means of commerce, a means of monetary gain and exploitation, putting up borders where there isn't supposed to be any, and using that as a whole jumping point for the "mars tourism for the rich!" "space walk for the rich!" nonsense and i just hate that. so so fucking much.

by the way guys, if you ever need/want to read a scientific article that is paywalled, you can also use scihub.
Scihub was made with the purpose of making knowledge accessible to general people.
Tumblr media
Every article has a specific code called doi. Just take that code, paste on sci-hub and voila!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And here's more about the project: https://sci-hub.ru/about
They have a LOT of articles in their database. A LOT.
If you can't find the doi of the article somehow, you can use libgen.
You can find a whole bunch of articles by name there. Unlike scihub, you don't need to put the doi code in the search.
Libgen uses scihub as a mirror for a lot of articles btw!
ALSO, Libgen is pretty good for pirating books and ebooks!

Are Deer Nocturnal
Deer are fascinating animals known for their adaptability to various environments. A common question among wildlife enthusiasts is, are deer nocturnal? While deer are primarily crepuscular, meaning they are most active during dawn and dusk, they can adjust their behavior in response to environmental factors, such as human activity and predator presence. In heavily populated areas, deer may become more active at night to avoid dangers. This flexibility in their activity patterns allows them to thrive in a wide range of habitats. Overall, understanding whether are deer nocturnal can enhance our appreciation of these graceful creatures and their survival strategies.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Aspires to Revive India as a Global Knowledge Hub
Tumblr media
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his vision for India to re-emerge as the world’s foremost knowledge centre with a focus on advanced and research-oriented higher education. This declaration was made during the inauguration of the new Nalanda University campus, named after the ancient and revered seat of learning that was destroyed in the 12th century by invading armies.
PM Modi emphasised the resilience of knowledge, citing Nalanda as evidence that intellectual pursuits cannot be obliterated by force. He envisioned India playing a pivotal role in the 21st century, particularly in Asia, aiming to become a developed nation by 2047. He highlighted that historically, all developed nations had become economic and cultural leaders only after excelling in education.
