Red Hot Winter- Chapter 19
Tumblr media
Chapter 19- "Roll like Thunder"
"Who's Kaleb?" Asked Elena. She and Elijah had taken Davina to have lunch before the young witch continued her studies with Bonnie that day. "Bonnie tells me he's been crashing your lessons from time to time."
"I met him when I was grabbing some herbs in the city's garden. He approached me, told me he was a witch, and said only a witch would know which herbs to collect." Davina replied.
"There's more to it, isn't there?" Asked Elena.
"It seems like he knows a lot more than Bonnie sometimes as if he…" She didn't have a chance to finish. Kaleb approaches their table, taking a seat next to Davina.
"Davina, so good to see you! That must be Elena." He said. "Davina told me a lot about you like you were the older sister she never had." Elena smiled at the compliment. "And you are…?"
"Elijah Mikaeleson." Replied Elijah, extending his hand. The moment Kaleb touched his hand Elijah knew. Kaleb was his brother, Kol Mikaelson. "Elena, why don't you take Davina home? Me and Kaleb need to have a little chat." He said, letting go of Kaleb's hand and looking at Elena. The vampire nodded. Kissing him briefly, she took Davina by the hand back home, though the witch didn't know why.
"I suppose Mother put you up to this, brother." Said Elijah.
"Well, Mother did tell me to follow Davina around, she never said anything about flirting with her." Said Kol, smirking.
"Elena is going to kill you again the moment she finds out about you, and I might be joining her this time."
"Oh, but Mother will put me in another body! Honestly how many times can a Petrova doppelganger kill me anyway?"
"You get any closer to her, and I'll rip your heart out!"
"Brother, I don't intend on doing anything against Elena, or Caroline for that matter."
"Then what are you doing here?"
"According to our Mother, our Father might be coming back into our lives soon. The witches have been talking to her, and his soul's already got a footing here. It's only a matter of time before he takes back his body, but you and I both know Niklaus fears him the most, especially now since he's got a part of himself all the way across the pond."
"What does Mother want?"
"I don't care what Mother wants. I want to talk to Niklaus."
"You want to switch alliances?"
"I figured our brother could use all the help that he can get."
"I cannot promise you that you'll leave the compound alive."
"Well, I'll take those chances over siding with Mother and Finn any day."
"Why are you doing this?" When Kol didn't answer, Elijah knew. "It's Davina, you're in love with her. You know she'll protect Elena, that's why you're switching sides."
"The details don't matter. Take me to Niklaus."
Elijah stood up from the table and walked his brother back to the compound. Entering his house, they both went to Klaus's study, finding the hybrid very nervous, looking at the box he got the previous night.
"Elijah, didn't I tell you I had important plans for today, and none of them includes Davina's study buddy?" Said Klaus.
"It's very nice to see you too, brother!" Said Kol.
"Brother? What do you mean?" Asked Klaus.
"Niklaus, it appears that Finn was not the only one Mother brought back from the dead. She brought Kol back as well." Replied Elijah.The blonde puts the box inside his back pocket and walks up to his brother.
"I can hear his heartbeat, and he is not on vervain." Says Klaus, after smelling him. Deciding to compel him, Klaus continues. "Tell me your real name."
"Kol Mikaelson." Replies Kol.
"Oh bloody hell!" Exclaims Klaus, throwing his hands up in the air. "Maybe I should call Elena and tell her to finish the job she and her brother started in Mystic Falls."
"Brother, I assure you I am not here to cause any trouble." Says Kol. "I swear on my life."
Klaus looks at Elijah, still distrusting of Kol.
"It's true, brother." Confirms Elijah. "Tell him what you told me Kol."
"Mother says that our Father is coming back. He's already got a footing in our world and it's only a matter of time before he comes back here."
"Kol…" Warns Elijah.
"And she knows where you're keeping your daughter."
"Elijah, this was supposed to be a good day." Says Klaus, visibly angry. "I have a very important thing to do later, and none of this news is particularly pleasant."
"Kol wants to join us." Says Elijah. "He wants to switch sides. He is a witch now brother, and I know we've got two of the greatest witches known with us, but with Father coming back and Mother knowing what she knows, we need all the help we can get."
"Do you trust him? I'm sure your lovely Elena doesn't, since he did try to kill her brother."
"Are you two really talking about me as if I'm not here?" Asked Kol. "I know a lot of witchcraft, Niklaus. I can help you."
"Why do you want to join us?" Asked Klaus. Elijah smiled.
"Go ahead Kol, you tell him." Said Elijah.
"Mother told me to keep an eye on Davina because she was on your side, but I never expected to fall in love with her. I can't keep helping Mother and Finn and ending up hurting her, or someone she cares about. She'd never forgive me." Replied Kol.
"What do you think she'll say when she finds out you're not Kaleb?" Asked Klaus.
"She might say she never wants to see me again, but I know her better. She loves me just as much." Answered Kol.
"You're free to join us, Kol." Said Klaus. "As long as you tell her the truth. And if she doesn't want you after that… I believe Elena will take care of that." He said smiling.
Kol smiled and left the study to find Davina.
"What important thing do you have to do today, Niklaus?" Asked Elijah, as soon as Kol was out of the room.
"It doesn't concern you brother." Replied Klaus. "Now leave, please. I need to continue my preparations."
Elijah smiled as if he already knew and left his brother alone, going to find Elena.
Later that night Klaus took Caroline out. He had specifically asked her to put on a dress he got her recently: a white lace dress and the way it shimmered in the light made him fall in love with her even more. It was absolutely stunning; the skirt was light and airy with small details that brought it to life. The waistline was decorated with delicate blossom-like embroidery and lace. The sleeves were long and elegant, and the neckline was just as intricate. The dress was the perfect balance between simplicity and beauty - it was absolutely made for Caroline.
They went to a garden in the city, that somehow Klaus had made empty at that time, and he had also ordered food for them from the restaurant he had taken her to when she first arrived in the city and he had convinced her to stay.
"You look magnificent tonight my love." He said when they sat next to each other in the blanket after they had eaten.
"You don't look so bad yourself, you know." She said, smiling. "Thank you for the dress, Klaus. I loved it."
"I knew it was made for you when I saw it, you deserved it." He said, kissing her neck. "Caroline I'm sorry."
"Sorry about what?" She asked, suddenly worried.
"I promised you I'd take you to see the world once you came to me, and I haven't done that. I didn't keep my promise. Instead, I put you in the middle of a war."
"Klaus, do I seriously need to remind you we are both vampires? Well I mean you're half vampire." They both laughed. "And we have eternity to see the world. I knew you had enemies, Klaus. But that never stopped me from wanting you."
"I love you so much, Caroline." He said.
Klaus's eyes sparkled in the moonlight as he pulled Caroline closer, pressing her body against him. He ran his hands softly through her hair as he looked deep into her eyes, his heart pounding in anticipation. He finally laid his lips against her own, feeling a wave of relief as he kissed her passionately. His embrace was tender yet firm as if to show his love and admiration for the woman before him.
Caroline responded eagerly, her lips meeting his with the same urgency and passion. Their kiss was passionate yet gentle, each move highlighting their connection and understanding for one another. Klaus and Caroline stayed in each other's embrace for what seemed like an eternity, neither one of them wanting to let go of the moment.
Reluctantly, Klaus separated himself from her, hearing her whining.
"Trust me, love, there is nothing I want to do more than to kiss you but I need to do something first." He said, standing up and bringing her with him.
Taking her by hand, he led her to the garden's fountain, which was also empty of tourists, but she wasn't complaining though she knew he probably compelled the security guards to not let anyone in at this time.
He turned to her, and all she could see in his eyes was love, pure love. It was the same look he had when he talked to Hope through the phone, or when he declared his love for her over the time they were together.
"Love, I never expected to fall in love, much less when I was looking to break the course my mother had put on me. When I saw you in the run-down small-town bar, I knew you were my queen. I also knew I needed to let you come to me by yourself. I might've been the villain in a lot of people's stories my love, but I wasn't going to be the one in yours. I've shown kindness to someone who never deserved it because of you, Caroline. You make me want to do better, to be a better person, a better father to my daughter. I loved you in silence for such a long time love, and I've waited for you, however long it took. It was never about taking you, it was about loving you, giving you the love you deserve." He got down on one knee, revealing a ring. The band of the ring is a precious mix of silver and gold, creating a rich and unique tone. In the center of the band is a deep and dazzling amber stone that seemed to have a soul of its own, meant to symbolize the love between the two of them. The amber stones' warm, honey-colored tones were mesmerizing and completely captivated Caroline. Inside the ring it was written "ᛗᛁ ᛚᛟᚢᛖ. ᚲᛚᚨᚢᛊ" which meant "My love. Klaus"
"Caroline Forbes, would you give me the extraordinary honor to marry me?" He asked, looking deep into her eyes, which were filled with tears.
"Yes!" She exclaimed, smiling. "Yes, yes, yes, a thousand times yes!" Klaus smiled, and he slipped the ring on her hand. It looked perfect.
He got up and held her, taking a spin with her in his arms, hearing her laugh. He always wanted to hear this sound.
"I love you so much, Caroline." He said, holding her face.
"I love you too, Niklaus Mikaelson." She said. "Always and Forever."
His heart was about to burst out of his chest with the happiness he felt at the moment the words left her mouth.
Without a word, Klaus pulled Caroline close and sealed their vows with a passionate kiss. He wrapped his arms around her, kissing her passionately. She felt so overwhelmed with emotion as this moment felt so surreal. They had gone through so much, and standing there amid all their love, she couldn't help but feel more than grateful. It was an intense, magical moment that left them both in tears, but these were tears of joy and excitement that symbolized a new beginning for them both. Now, they were ready to start a new life together and leave the past behind. As they stepped away from their kiss, Caroline looked up into Klaus' eyes with joy and love that he had never seen before. They were ready to embark on a new adventure, and the future looked brighter than ever, even though a thunderstorm was closing in.
They got back to the compound a few hours later, where Klaus listened attentively to Caroline's plans for their wedding, telling him she wanted to get married in Mystic Falls to which he agreed. He would do anything for her.
They agreed to break the news to everyone the next day, since everyone seemed to be asleep already, and Caroline wanted to tell her friends at the same time.
As they were getting ready to go to bed, Klaus realized something was bothering her.
"What is it, my love?" He asked, bringing her closer to him.
"There is something you should know Klaus." She said.
"You can tell me, my love, we're gonna be married." He said, smiling, managing to make her smile too, but it quickly faded.
"When Stefan got back to Mystic Falls, Damon came back too and I was jealous of Elena being with Stefan so I decided to try my luck with Damon." Klaus didn't interrupt her, he knew there was more. "Damon, he… He would drink from me and he would… he sexually assaulted me Klaus, and he compelled me to forget. It wasn't until I was turned that I remembered."
Klaus held her close to him, with his arms on her waist. She held him back and clutched to him with all her strength and might.
"I'm so sorry you went through that, my love." He said. "I could never do that to you, and I never did that to anyone before. I could never take what wasn't mine. I'm so sick that people like this exist. I promise you, Caroline, that I'll never let you go through something like that. Never, I would rather die."
He lay down and let her cry for the version of her that was attacked years prior, and kissed her tears away. At the same time, he knew what he had to do as soon as he arrived back in Mystic Falls.
Find Damon Salvatore, and make him pay for what he had done to Klaus Mikaelson's Queen.

Currently thinking about tiny Klaus, maybe five or six years old, coming across his biological father in the woods by their village.
Obviously Klaus has no idea who he is, but Ansel’s been watching and knows exactly who this is. Esther has forbidden him to speak to the boy, but who would be the wiser?
Anyway, Ansel wants to know absolutely everything about Niklaus but has to limit himself to just a few questions—about Mikael, about home, about what he likes to do.
To little Klaus, it’s such an inconsequential thing. But to Ansel, it’s everything. And it’s painful—because Niklaus can never know the truth, and Ansel can never truly know his son.

"Relax, darling!" Kol Mikaelson x male reader
I don't really know what's that supposed to be but I like Kol a lot and... Well, that's it. The title and the gif don't really give a hint of anything, which is sad.
Tumblr media
You never thought much about Klaus's family. Honestly, you never even thought you'd meet them.
The Original Hybrid was more than just your maker. Your savior. He showed you, the last of his hybrids, that you don't have to be a lone wolf.
So, when he said he's going to New Orleans, of course you go together. With or without the sire bond, he had your loyalty.
"Who's that?" You asked him when you guys went to this old house on the French Quarter. The place had some distinct stints. Rain, forest, a little sulfur... Magic.
"Do you remember how the Salvatores killed my little brother, Kol?"
"Yeah, you made me collect his ashes." You rolled your eyes, smirking.
"For a reason. I made some contacts and brought him back. As a witch, even. And I need you to protect him."
You shrugged, not really objecting. Orders were orders. Klaus held one of your shoulders and smiled. "You know you're important to me, right?"
"Yeah, the last of the hybrids and stuff." You agreed.
"Not only because of this." He made you look at him. "You made me feel like I wasn't an abomination that made other abominations when the world said otherwise. I will always be grateful for this."
Smiling, you hugged him. Had to take those rare moments where your alpha would open up so easily. "I love you, Klaus. So, go on. I'll take care of your lil brother.
And so, time goes by. The whole mess about Klaus's baby with the werewolf lost princess Hayley Marshall, Elijah showing up and then Rebekah too.
Apparently they didn't knew about Kol's ressurection, something about Klaus planning stuff.
"You know, love, we could just get out of this bloody house and have some fun, even that if only for a night." Kol said, one afternoon at the house you guys were in. "This place is covered by spells, I can use a glamour and you could... Definitely wear something better."
"Excuse me?" You laughed. "What is wrong with what I wear?"
"Nothing, it's just... Meh. And if you want to get laid with a girl-"
"I like boys, Mikaelson. Well, girls too. Actually, I like everyone. I'm bi, I guess." You shrugged, not really caring about labels.
"Oh. Okay. Well, then you really have to change your style. Be a little hot than just pajamas with crocks." He smirked.
Living with him was surprisingly good. Not as chaotic as Klaus made you think. Kol was as deep as the rest of the family.
One night, really late, he came to your room, asking if you could talk. He opened up about things. How being dead was like and how he missed his littlest brother, a boy named Henrik, even after a thousand years after his death.
And maybe, just maybe (for sure) you were having feelings for him. When he touched your shoulder, you'd have shivers running through your back.
When he talked, you just wanted to close your eyes and appreciate the sound of his voice.
And when he walked around shirtless... Good gods, that made your inner wolf howl.
But he was your alpha's brother. Not only that, he looked straight. So you buried your feelings, as you "should."
When everything was fine and Hayley finally gave birth to the baby, a little girl named Hope to which you instantly liked (because babies, you know? especially such an important baby), Klaus revealed who's the witch that helped him with his enemies.
So, yeah! The Mikaelsons were finally back together, everything was fine for once and they were a family again and all that.
"Hey, where are you going?" Klaus asked, showing up in front of the room you had at his house.
"I have some friends in New York. Gonna spend some time there. I mean, you don't need me anymore." You smiled. Not that you were sad, but it was a fact. He had his family. "Your brother can look out for himself."
"He can, for sure, but I need you around. You're family too, Y/N." Klaus said. "Hope could use an older brother."
"She will have Marcel." You smirked. "I think we both know I'll always be a burden to you, Klaus. I'm the last hybrid, a living memory from a time when you weren't so good as you're today."
"You are absolutely crazy!" He huffed, loudly. "You are not a burden to me, Y/N! You never were! You are important to me, to this family, to Ko-" He interrupted himself, but you got it.
"Kol? I mean, yeah, we're friends, but...
"He likes you, I noticed. You make him happy, even if you're both just too damn stupid to notice it. So, go on! Leave us! Make us feel like garbage for not being enough for you!"
You looked at him, changing glances. And then you both laughed like crazies. "That's low, Klaus!"
"Had to say something to make you stay. So please, stay. And talk with my brother before I have to make you both make out."
Later, during dinner, you sat between Hayley and Rebekah. In front of you, Kol tried to glance without looking obvious, to which he failed.
"Can't you guys just talk? This is making me disgusted. It's annoying. Just fuck already." Rebekah whispered to you. Of course, all the vampires could hear it, so when everyone but Kol giggled, he knew something was up.
"What?"
"Nothing. Your sister is just bugging me." You rolled your eyes, giving a little shoulder bump on her. "We could talk about her and Marcel, what about that!"
"Please, no. It's already too weird that my step-son is dating my sister, I don't need the details."
"Well, Y/N's basically your son too and Kol and him are teasing each other forever. Let's talk about that." Everyone was surprised that Elijah, of all people, came with that. Hayley giggled.
"Ah, well. There's no point in denying that I think this handsome warlock in front of me is hot as fuck." You blinked at him.
"I think I'm full of dinner already. Y/N, please, would you help me with some spells?" Kol got up, and went to you. Without even flinch, you got up and followed him.
Out of their sight, you guys made out passionately. And for a long time during your life (mortal and immortal), everything was fine. More than just fine, you were happy.
BONUS! Meeting Freya, after coming back from the honeymoon.
(because hell yeah you guys got married, and Kol was now a heretic. Something about his blood still having the vampire curse and activated when you guys got attacked by the Strix).
"What the bloody fucking hell have you got us all in now, Niklaus?!" Your husband said right after the teleport he casts worked on you both.
"Like we didn't had enough to give us headaches." Rebekah huffed, but came to you, giving a hug. "I missed you so much. How was Paris?"
"Great. We had the time of a life in there. The food was great, the fashion too, until a bunch of crazy Elijahs wannabe came after us!" You glanced to your former Alpha. "Could've told us there was a sireline war going on."
"I didn't knew. Until Lucian told me."
"Urgh. Lucian Castle. I remember when you introduced us to each other. I hate that guy. He's clearly jealous of you." You noticed, and then went to get some bourbon. And finally, you noticed her. "Hello?"
"Oh, yeah. That's our oldest sister. Long story short, she was not dead, but cursed to sleep for a hundred years. Meet Freya." Klaus introduced you to her. "This is Y/N, Kol's husband and a hybrid."
"Nice to meet you." She greeted. "Seems like I'm the only one without a person, huh?"
"I know a girl I could introduce to you." You smiled, already planning everything.
"Easy, Y/N, she's my sister, not a toy." Kol joked.
"Shut up." You smirked. Hayley called you, and came to the room with Hope on her shoulders. "Oh my god, she's all grown up!"
The Mikaelsons smiled. Even after all that time, it was so good to see Kol and you together.

Part of the Family
Tumblr media
Enzo St. John x Mikaelson! Reader
Part 1 of 4
Words: 2621
Summary: After leaving the Armory, Enzo is devastated to find that his family was a group of thieves and liars.  Determined to help your boyfriend through this, you come up with a wildly romantic solution.
Note: Besides being in season seven of Vampire Diaries, there isn’t much else of either show’s plot. I just wanted to write a little series that I thought would be both Enzo’s romantic side and the Mikaelson’s flare for the dramatic. So no deadly threats besides family drama. Let me know if you guys like it! (Note: I’m reposting these because I really wanted to just make some minor edits before I finally finish out this series)
Warnings: Lots of Fluff (and some mild language)
-
The quiet was both peaceful and maddening. You were used to the sound of jazz music in the morning and the strong smell of coffee, but this morning there was nothing. Just silence. You slowly rose from the bed and grabbed the nearest pieces of decent clothing you could find- which just happened to be your boyfriend’s favorite shirt, a pair of jeans and sandals. Your feet made almost no sound on the hardwood floor, but it was enough for Enzo to hear you coming.
“I didn’t mean to wake you, love.” He said, looking out the window of your apartment.
“How could you have? You haven’t made a sound at all.” You scoffed.
“Are you asking me to be louder at seven in the morning?” He turned towards you and you could see the raw emotion in his eyes. He saw you looking and quickly moved his gaze to the kitchen. “Ah, I’ve forgotten the coffee. No wonder you’re in a foul mood.” He had been acting this way ever since he had gotten back from the Armory. Something was wrong, you just couldn’t figure out what. You followed him into the kitchen and wrapped your arms around his waist, placing a light kiss on his shoulder before resting your head there.
“Enzo…” You started, kissing the crook of his neck. “What’s going on? You’ve been acting strange lately.”
“Don’t know what you mean, darling.” He poured coffee into your mug and handed it back to you. You pulled yourself up onto the counter and sipped the delicious warm liquid.
“You haven't played your guitar in days, you won't go out of the apartment, and every time I try to talk to you you seem completely distant.” Even now, he was looking off, not really hearing you. “Enzo!” His gaze snapped to you.
“I’m fine love. Really.” He kissed your cheek as he walked past. Still not convinced, you followed him to the living room where the two of you sat in silence. You took a deep breath, wincing at your own words.
“It’s the Armory, isn’t it? Your family.”
“I said that I’m fine!” He snapped. “Maybe I’m just sick of all your bloody questions.” You scoffed, narrowing your eyes at him and setting the mug on the table.
“You’re so afraid of being alone, Enzo.” You stood and grabbed your car keys. “Maybe you should stop pushing away the people who care about you.” He didn’t even move his gaze from the floor as you slammed the door of the apartment behind you.
Enzo rubbed his eyes. He knew that he shouldn’t have snapped at you. He was tired and hurt over the fact that his family wasn’t at all what he dreamed they would be. They were quite the opposite, actually. He feared that he was exactly like them; a lying, heartless beast who only cared about the ends instead of the means. Looking back at his life only made him see how similar he was to them. And it scared him more than he wished it would.
-
Bonnie gave you the ‘I told you so’ look from across the cafe table. You rolled your eyes. Although your family and the remaining Bennett witch had never gotten along, you had become best friends with both her, Caroline, and Elena. It still hurt to think that you would never see two of your closest friends together again all because of Kai’s stupid curse.
“Don’t say it.” You begged taking a long sip of the new coffee you ordered. She held up her hands and smiled innocently.
“I have no idea what you mean.” She too drank from the cup in front of her. “It’s not like I’ve been telling you for the past year that Enzo is a total dick who is so undeserving of you.”
“We had an argument, Bonnie.” You sighed. “We didn’t break up so stop talking about him like we did.”
“I always talk about him like this.” You pegged your bunched up napkin at her and fell back in your seat. “Look, Y/N, I know you care about him, but I saw what he was like in the Armory. He was so determined to figure out who his family was, I think when he found out who they really were… he broke.”
“I know and I want to help him. I just don’t know how.” You thought of what your life was like compared to his. “I don’t exactly know what it’s like to not have a family.” Every moment of your life was surrounded with memories of your twin brother Kol, or your younger sister Rebekah, or of course your two loving- but insanely protective- older brothers; Elijah and Niklaus. Your siblings meant everything to you, and it was hard to imagine what your thousand years would have been like without them.
“Try to make him feel like he’s a part of something.” Bonnie suggested. Despite her dislike of Enzo, a part of her did like to think of him as a somewhat ally. She also cared deeply about you and she wanted you to be happy, even if it was with Enzo. “Make him see that he isn’t alone.”
-
“What the hell do you want?” Damon snapped, narrowing his eyes at his old friend standing before him. Enzo pushed passed him into the house. “Come on in.” Damon slammed the door and followed Enzo into his living room.
“I need a drink.” He muttered, finding Damon’s favorite bourbon and poured himself a glass. He drank it quickly and poured another. Damon snatched the bottle away from him.
“Sorry buddy, but I am not your personal liquor store.” He poured a glass for himself and placed the bottle away from Enzo. “What’s wrong with you anyway? Where’s your obnoxious British swagger?”
“Let’s just say I’ve had a rough week.”
“Ah yes, the rest of the St. John psycho clan…” Damon started. Enzo shot him a look. “So your family sucks. Join the club.”
“It’s not just that…” Enzo sighed heavily. “It’s Y/N.”
“So this is a lover’s spat? My favorite.” He leaned against the table with a smirk. “What did the female half of the Devil Twins do now?”
“Y/N didn’t do anything. I snapped at her this morning after she asked about… them.”
“Let me guess, she wants to meet the parents?” Damon said sarcastically.
“Can you take anything seriously?” Enzo growled. Damon wiggled his eyebrows mischievously.
“Nope.” He ushered Enzo onto the couch who laid down, arm slung over his face. “Maybe this is just your turning point. I mean, we all kind of knew that the two of you wouldn’t work.” He moved his arm so he could look at Damon.
“What?”
“Yeah, I mean, sure it was ‘cute’ at first. The two sociopaths of Mystic Falls united by their undying need for mayhem and death.” He gagged. “But we knew it wasn’t going to last. Her family puts each other in coffins, you’re claustrophobic, she has daddy issues, you had a thing for my mom- the list goes on.” Enzo propped himself up on his elbows.
“You think we should split up?”
“Of course not.” Damon took a long drink of bourbon. “Have you not been listening to a word I just said?” Enzo’s brows furrowed in confusion.
“Did I miss something?” He wondered, fully sitting up on the couch. Damon rolled his eyes and moved behind the sofa to get more bourbon.
“I’m Damon freaking Salvatore! Am I really going to tell you to go with what everyone else thinks?” He put his hand on his chest in mock offense. “It’s like you don’t know me at all.”
“So you’re saying not to split up?” Damon smacked the back of his head and Enzo growled.
“Do I need to spell it out for you? Think about it. Everyone thought that Elena was making a horrible decision when she chose me. Despite the fact that she is in a witchy coma for the next sixty years, we still held onto the idea of spending our lives together. Exhibit B; everyone said that Stefan and Caroline were the perfect couple and they were going to live happily ever after- until he made the dick move to run off with Valerie even after we killed Rayna.” Instead of pouring a glass, he just took a swig from the bottle. “The point is: the world is full of assholes who are often wrong. So don’t listen to them.” Enzo blew out a long breath and fell back onto the couch.
“I suppose you’re right.” He chuckled.
“Of course I’m right.” Damon lifted him up from his seat and started pushing him towards the door. “So go find your hot psycho original vampire and make sweet love to her for all I care. Whatever gets you out of my house.”
“Why did we stop being mates again?” Enzo asked sarcastically when he was shoved outside.
“You tried to kill my girlfriend, remember?” Damon thought for a moment. “Then again, I did try to kill yours on multiple occasions so I guess we’re even.” He laughed to himself. “There was this one time, after we-” He stopped the sentence abruptly, remembering that he was standing in front of Y/N’s current boyfriend, so revealing their dirty past relationship was probably a bad idea. “Nevermind. Now go.” He finished and slammed the door. Enzo thought about everything he had said and knew what he needed to do.
-
He found you sitting back in the apartment, with an extremely determined look on your face. When you saw him come in, you stood. You opened your mouth to speak, but he stopped you.
“I’m sorry.” He blurted. You cocked your head to the side.
“For what?”
“Shouting at you this morning. I’ve been thinking ever since I got back from the Armory, panicking really.” He explained. “What if I’m just like them? I’ve lied and cheated and killed to get what I want, much like they have to add to their supernatural collection. I was angry at myself and I took it out on you. I’m sorry.” To his surprise, you laughed.
“You don’t need to apologize, Enzo.” You stepped towards him, placing a hand on his cheek. “God knows I’ve started my fair share of brawls between us.” He leaned into your hand, the tips of your fingers tangling in his hair. It took all of his strength to pull away and continue.
“I haven’t finished.” He paced across the room and your hand fell to your side. “I’m not going to be able to just move past this. I need time. I need to try and figure out what I’m supposed to do now.”
“I know.” You interjected. “I want to help you, Enzo. I want to help you get through all of this.”
“No.” He said bluntly. “I need to do this on my own.” You thought that you could let it go. That you could let him go off on his own to figure things out by himself. But you couldn’t.
“No you don’t.” You snapped. “Enzo, you don’t have to do this alone.”
“It is my family. I need to do this.”
“They may be your blood, but they are not your family.” You put your hands on either side of his face. His eyes were glistening.
“Then I shall never have one?” His expression was so sad, it crushed you. One solution came to mind and it made your body shiver with nerves.
“If you want a family…” You paused and studied him. You knew that you wanted this, but would he? “Become part of mine.” His puzzled expression pushed you further. “Your whole life, you’ve been wanting to be a part of something. You’ve wanted a place to belong. I can give that to you.”
“Y/N, what are you saying.”
“I’m saying,” you took a deep breath. “Lorenzo St. John… Will you marry me?” His eyes went wide and for a moment your heart sank. But then he smiled, sending a bright feeling through you, like a ball of light traveling through your veins.
“Are you serious?” He asked and you nodded. He lifted you off the ground, spinning around and laughing. “Yes. Of course yes!” Your lips collided as you continued to spin. He set you down on your feet, your arms still draped around his neck. “Though you have robbed me of making the large romantic gesture of proposing.”
“Well,” you grinned, taking his hand. “Let me make it up to you.”
-
You curled your toes around the bedsheets and released them, feeling the breeze come in from the open window. You felt a hand playing with your hair and you turned to face Enzo. He twisted a strand around his finger then pushed it away from your face.
“Hello love.” He purred, placing a soft kiss on your forehead. You sighed with content. He wrapped his arms around you and you laid your head on his chest. The moment couldn’t be more perfect. Until you realized…
“You’re going to have to meet them.” You blurted suddenly. He pulled away so he could look at you.
“What?”
“My siblings. You’re going to have to meet them.” He chuckled.
“You’re worried about that?”
“Yes!” You exclaimed. “I would like to be married in New Orleans, since it is the closest thing I’ve had to having a real home.”
“That’s perfectly fine with me.” He said, pulling you into his arms again. You pushed away and sat up.
“I don’t think you understand. We’re not...” You paused to search for the right word. “Normal. Nor are they very hospitable when it comes to strangers.” He sat up next to you, his fingers drawing circles on your back. “We need a plan.”
“I highly doubt-” He started but you cut him off.
“Freya will probably be defensive at first, but if you do nothing to threaten us, she’ll warm up to you. Rebekah will try and get you to give her a reason to hate you, so you’ll have to make sure to be careful. Eventually she’ll accept us since she’s always been a sucker for a good romance. Kol will be fine with anything that brings a party.” You turned to face him, a very serious look on your face. “Elijah is the one you want to impress. He’s the only one who can stop Klaus from killing you.”
“Stop Klaus from doing what?” Enzo exclaimed.
“Niklaus is very temperamental when it comes to his sibling’s relationships with other people. He always fears that we will abandon him for somebody else. So when he discovers a romance, it is rare that our significant others survive the encounter.”
“And you want me to meet him?” He scoffed. “And then tell him we’re getting married.” You snatched up Enzo’s shirt that you had worn earlier from the bedpost.
“My siblings being a part of our wedding is really important to me Enzo. Even the ones with murderous tendencies.” You left out the fact that all of you tended to go on killing sprees from time to time- yourself included. He sighed and pulled you in for a long, passionate kiss.
“Well if I am killed because I love you it will have been worth it.” You pouted your lips sarcastically.
“You’re so sweet.” You said, pressing your lips to his again, but pushing away quickly. “We’re still going.” He groaned and fell back on the bed. You rolled your eyes and located the rest of your clothes, barely able to contain the turning bundle of excitement and nerves rolling around your stomach. It was time to go home.

Part One.
Tumblr media
Ever since Klaus’ resentment for Y/n, and the sworn death sentence he’d given her, chased her out of New Orleans and into constant relocation just to be safe in hiding from her husband’s brother, Elijah had developed a new feeling. He began to loathe his little brother. Though he’d claimed to have detested his brother many times before, this time was different. Even so, that wasn’t the only thing different about this time.
This time, Klaus knew he was fucked.
He’d cried for forgiveness over the past few years, yet Elijah ignored him every single time. One of the, scarcely occurring, times he actually spoke to Klaus about his apology, he’d brought up the situation with Y/n, quoting the hybrid word for word.
“You did say, ‘live with Elijah’s hate,’ did you not? So, why can you not just live with the burden of the reality that I in fact do, and will always, abhor you, Niklaus? Or are you just so diabolical, so selfish. that you merely cannot fathom losing the one person whom has vowed to stay by your side, always and forever? The one person who can tolerate you.”
“Elijah- ple-”
“So long as my wife is on the run from you, running quite literally for her life, you will never be reprieved.” Everyone who knew Elijah knew that he always kept his word. “I give you my word on that.” Always.
“Please, brother! I’ll do anything for your forgiveness-” He was genuine. As Klaus begged, practically on his knees with tears stinging his eyes, he was a hundred percent genuine.
Elijah turned his head, finally facing his brother with full attention and interest for the first time in a painful handful of years. “Free Y/n.”
“W-what?”
“Free my lover from this condemnation you have unjustly sentenced her to and allow her to walk away from your grudge without harm and without the risk of you creating blackmail material of her actions that you have unreasonably deemed intolerable.”
“Anything else?” He was only kidding, but Elijah wasn’t.
“You’ll have to collect her from whatever location she’s at currently. And please Niklaus, do so without any violence on your behalf.”
He chuckled for a second. Then his smug, carefree, expression morphed into one of uneasy guilt. “You’re...serious?” Elijah held his stern manner. Klaus took his lack of response as a yes and sighed, “Alright. Consider her free.” then he turned to go hunt for Y/n and earn his brother’s pardon.
“If you lay a hand on her,” Klaus halted in his tracks, eyes darting to the side as though he could see his brother clearly despite Elijah being directly behind him, “be it a hair pulled from her head or even a tiny meaningless spiteful threat, there will be splinters for you to pull out of your skin for years. And though it will not permanently kill you, I shall drive stake upon stake through your chest and never feel remorse for any part of it.”
Klaus almost wanted to scoff, laugh it off and tell Elijah he’d never actually do that but a part of him wondered if he really would. If his own brother would end his life for anything done to Y/n. Deep down, he knew Elijah would have a rage that would overflow and cause terror and destruction in it’s wake.
He knew the wood couldn’t kill him. He’d do it over and over again, for the next centuries to come, and the centuries after those have passed, the cycle never ending. A never ending cycle of a living hell. And a hell that he knew would be well deserved for it would only come to such a punishment if he did anything to hurt the love of his brother’s life. An easy mistake to avoid ...if your name wasn’t Niklaus.
“Understand?”
Klaus wondered what happened to the old him; the merciless, blood thirsty, cruel and sinister hybrid, the one true immortal being, now showing mercy to, and retrieving, someone who’d crossed multiple lines in his eyes. Whilst she did have a point, he chose never to say so. He chose to ignore all attempts to draw the light in him into the world. He chose to ignore all pleas for his goodness in fear of his softness- his weakness getting the people he loved hurt.
But it was time to push past that, for if he didn’t, there wouldn’t be any people for him to love.
He swallowed and redirected his narrowed eyes to the door. His jaw clenched and his breathing became uneven. “Understood, brother.”
Tumblr media
Niklaus was a stubborn man, and he knew it. But he would do anything, very close to literally anything, to gain his family back. To atone for his mistakes over hundreds of decades. To plea for redemption from their bad sides. And although Elijah would forgive him with simply letting Y/n return to his arms once more, Niklaus new his pleading wasn’t quite over yet.
Y/n wouldn’t just forgive him so easily. She wouldn’t, and because he knew that, he wasn’t surprised when she narrowed her eyes at him and furrowed her brows before releasing an avalanche of years, years of which felt horribly elongated, of pent up rage upon him instantaneously without any form of hesitation.
He found her with the help of witches, and quite easily seeing as moving from place to place as quickly as possible would require avoiding any type of relationships with everyone. She didn’t have anyone to preform a cloaking spell, but she did have great strength as a back-up strategy.
A note, placed by the barkeep, was subtly dropped in front of her, the words written in blue by the pen he’d snatched from a barmaid’s apron as she walked past. Two little words sparked her curiosity almost immediately. Her head snapped up and turned left and right, looking for who the mysterious messenger, whom she hoped was Elijah. Much to her disappointment, the person who suddenly placed a hand on her shoulder was a different Mikaelson.
Y/n grabbed his hand and flung it off of herself harshly. “You?”
“Don’t sound so disgruntled, love, I am here to collect you after all.”
“No. I won’t be going anywhere with you.”  Venom entwined her words as she referenced him. She clenched her jaw and swiftly turned to face the bar again. The scrunched up napkin was thrown over her shoulder. He opened it, “come home” sprawled messily across the soft material.
Klaus felt the anger wash over him but promptly remembered Elijah’s words. He calmed himself with a few deep breaths before clearing his throat and trying again. “I’m afraid I can’t take no as an answer.”
“And I’m afraid I would rather stake myself than go literally any place on this green fucking earth with you.” Y/n spat through her teeth.
Her blatantly obvious execrating feelings for him amused Klaus, a small grin appearing on his lips as he tilted his head. “Do you even know where I’m taking you?”
“To hell, most likely.”
Klaus, unsurprisingly, had a snarky retort ready on his tongue, but she was already out the door and taking a sneaky head start for her run to the farthest place from Niklaus possible. He was on her tail within seconds and cornered her in the woods. A smug leer, not uncommon to see upon his features, promptly slid onto his face.
“What the hell do you want, besides to kill me?”
“You to come with me.”
Y/n paused, as if she were considering his demand, then rolled her eyes. She tried to step around him, “Like that’ll do me any good-”
“It will.” Klaus stepped in front of her, blocking her way once more. “C’mon. From here on out, your sentence is over, you can return to New Orleans-”
“And how do I know you mean the words you speak? How do I know you shall stay true to whatever comes from your mouth?”
“You know me, I-”
“You’re quite correct, Klaus. I know you. I know that you are not infamous for nothing. You lie, deceive, torture, humiliate and do so many other things to people underserving of your cruelty! How should I forgive you when you have yet to adhere for the hurt you’ve infected innocents with?”
His gaze dropped, guilt creeping over his face. He knew what he did to those people.
“Do you even feel bad for what you’ve done?”
Not really. Not all the time. Hardly ever at all if he were to be honest.
“Do you feel the need to morn those you have wrongfully sentenced to death? Those you have sent to the deepest pits of hell based on erroneous judgement?”
She came for his throat, each fact that was spat from her mouth verbatim.
“You are callous and you are heinous! You wonder why your siblings hate you, and yet you constantly do vile things to people! You have erroneously punished people over and over again. You swear you will change, many times, and they believe you but then the next thing they know, they’re in a box for a couple decades. And you think they need to plead for absolution?”
Hundreds of years spent seething in hostility for her brother in law, all ranted in this one moment hit Klaus like a bus, taking the air from his lungs and sending a feeling deep into his gut like someone had just swung a baseball bat into his stomach a dozen times. But she wasn’t finished yet.
“You want to ask for my exoneration? Well you have years, and I mean fucking years, to make up for.” She laughed sarcastically. “To absolve you from everything you’ve put me through, everything you’ve taken from me, everything I’ve fucking missed because of you- to absolve you from all of that would take many years of penitence and work to fix what you have done. Are you really prepared to do that? Are you, Niklaus fucking Mikaelson, ready to take a lengthy withdrawal from your wicked and corruptive reign of evil to earn my remission?”
He hated the fact that she teased him for it, rubbed it in his face, but he knew he deserved it. Klaus knew he deserved every harsh and bitter word she spat at him. He had a thousand of years of blood on his hands, the true number of all the lives he’d snuffed out still paling in comparison to the amount of power that radiated from Y/n, the amount of guilt and remorse she’d forced onto his shoulders with simple words.
“You are no fucking king,” she sneered, “at least, not compared to me.”
Silence made the air heavy with tension as the minutes passed by. Then, she sighed heavily and spoke, slicing the thick tension with an imaginary blade. “I will go with you,” he looked to her with relief, “but I meant every word I said. You will have to work to ensure your vindication. And it will not be an easy task.”
“I understand.” Klaus bowed his head, submitting to her and trading in his crown to prove his worthiness of her forgiveness.
She happily accepted it.
Tumblr media
“Y/n?” He couldn’t believe his eyes. Last he’d checked, he hadn’t been bitten by a werewolf or hybrid, nor had he inhaled or consumed any witchy substances that would make him hallucinate. He didn’t pray much, but in his head, his thoughts muttered over and over, “please be real.”
“Elijah!” Her eyes lit up the second they met his form. She surged forward, lips colliding with Elijah’s for the first time in years. He wrapped his arms around her and twirled her round.
The world faded to an irrelevant blur. It felt amazing to be home, to be in his arms once more, to be free of Klaus’ ridiculous furry, free of the ill intentions previously directed towards her. Minutes had went by and yet, neither of the two noticed a single thing.
Years that had passed by soon drifted away, like they weren’t apart for any of it. Like time had hit pause when she’d left his arms and resumed when she returned to them. It felt as though time froze whilst the two embraced. The moment could’ve lasted an eternity had Klaus not cleared his throat to announce his presence.
“So uh...brother...have I earned your forgiveness?”
“I suppose you have.”
“And Y/n? Have I made progress on clearing my name with you?”
She made eye contact with Elijah, exchanging a small grin before returning her eyes to Klaus and nodding slightly. “You’ve got a ways to go, but you’re off to a great start. Thank you, Klaus.”

Chapter Summary: The final battle between the Mikaelsons and Dahlia is here and not everybody will survive. Klaus and Maleny go to the extremes to save Hope and their son no matter what the cost is. Soon enough, Maleny even gets to face the worst of her past: lifting the curse she had to endure for over a thousand years. Will she finally be free to live with her family?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Klaus and Dahlia had relocated to a more secure place still near the bayou...where Dahlia would be performing the spell needed to link to Klaus. Before so, however, Klaus had forced her to de-link herself from Maleny as well, reminding Dahlia there was no point in having Maleny linked to herself when she would be casting the spell to break the slumber curse anyways. Fortunately, Dahlia had listened. With them was Hope sitting calmly in her car seat while Freya's unconscious body laid next to her. While she wasn't very happy with the new deal, Dahlia worked her best to get the spell finished.
"You're quiet," she remarked after Klaus gave a purposely loud sigh, "Are you having misgivings?"
"I was just looking for a polite way to ask, 'What the hell is taking so long?'"
Dahlia rolled her eyes and gestured to the table, "Well, we can begin now. Once we're linked, I'll no longer have to sleep a hundred years again. Your concerns for my status will ease, and I'll finally be able to focus on power that is truly owed to me."
"My son's—" Klaus said for her, darkly to serve as a reminder there was yet another part of the deal, "—whom you will only guide and draw the sufficient power you need from him."
Dahlia nodded with a smile, "Of course."
Klaus then glanced to the car, seeing his older sister still unconscious,, "What do you want to do about Freya?"
"She served her purpose," Dahlia carelessly waved a hand at the car. "So, tonight, at the moon's apex, I'll end her life, and once our link is severed, the bond that I share with your son will become one and stronger."
"Best get on with it, then," Klaus motioned, struggling to hide his discontent with the plan. He moved up to the table where Dahlia was awaiting for him with hands held out.
Dahlia then began to chant the spell to bind them together, "Medareno sometswar. Medareno sometswar."
As she chanted further, the pewter chalices Dahlia set up in front of her filled with blood. When it became full, it poured down to the table where it then traveled to the center of an infinity symbol. When the spell neared its end, the two spellers were blasted backwards from the table. Due to the commotion, Hope, alarmed, began to whimper. As Klaus went to check on her, Dahlia remained on the ground feeling the newfound power rushing through her body.
When the novelty passed, she began to laugh and got up, "With your strength, I will never need to sleep for a century again!"
"Well…" Klaus began, keeping his back to her as he slowly reached for something inside his jacket's pocket, "...perhaps one more nap."
Dahlia stood confused until Klaus turned around revealing he held the golden dagger. Realization dawning on her, she meant to telekinetically take the dagger from him but it was too late. Klaus daggered himself and just as the effects began to take him under, Dahlia felt the weakening come to her as well.
Both were out in less than a minute.

Back at the compound, Elijah was still listening to the exact plan Klaus had apparently formed without their opinions. In the meantime of doing so, he healed Maleny's bad neck with blood of his own.
"So, you see? You would have failed," Maleny finished off the story with a great big scold, "You would have failed and gotten yourselves killed."
"But to link himself to our enemy?" Elijah still could not understand why on Earth Klaus had thought that was a better plan, "She'll be virtually indestructible!"
"Not if he uses the dagger that was used on him," Maleny smirked when Elijah stayed quiet, "He uses the dagger on himself, Dahlia goes down with him in the meantime we collect the right ingredients for the final battle. You see, Elijah? Family works better together."
Elijah could not hide his monument shock. He glanced at Cami - who'd remained by the threshold of the living room - as if to ask for some sort of confirmation.
"They came up with it together," Cami said quietly, holding back her bitter tongue for the sake of the situation. "The perfect team, don't you think?"
Maleny slowly looked between the two, feeling awkward fairly fast.

"She'll be fine," Amarrah kept telling Marcel as they both waited for Rebekah to wake up in her original body.
It had been quite some time since Cami had snapped her neck and seeing Rebekah still not waking up put Marcel on edge.
"I can't believe Klaus forced her into this!" Marcel paced back and forth, actively ignoring the French witch, "Who does this!?"
"Um, we are talking about the sister who agreed to dagger her brother when his daughter's life was stake...right?" Amarrah sarcastically asked, upholding the glare Marcel now had on him, "Don't give me that look. She's no better than he is. But no matter what she's not going to die. We looked into the spell and she's going to wake up."
And just then, they heard a noise coming from Rebekah's coffin. After a couple of seconds, the blonde vampire opened up the lid and looked around anxiously.
"See?" Amarrah then gestured to the living woman, but Marcel ignored her to go hug Rebekah.
"Fair warning- since you're still compelled to kill me, you've got a whole new fight on your hands," Rebekah told Marcel as she was put to the floor.
"Well, technically not anymore," Marcel threw a look at Amarrah, apparently doubting her word still.
"How do you mean?" Rebekah questioned the French witch, curiously looking between the two.
"It's what I told you," Cami walked into the room then, grimly looking around the place, "Klaus daggered himself, thus cancelling out any compulsion he had on anyone."
"One bloody good thing he did, then," Rebekah muttered and straightened up, clearing her throat, "So, am I to assume you undaggered my other brother downstairs?"
Cami rolled her eyes and looked to the side, "He's fine," came her mutter. "He's downstairs with Mal."
"Excellent, I'd like a word with her," Rebekah started making way out of the room when she heard her cellphone ringing from Eva's body lying on the couch. With a sigh, as nothing good could come out of that call, she returned to answer it.

"I don't understand why they're not picking up," Maleny sighed after hanging up the tenth call she'd made to Alton that night.
"Perhaps Niklaus has unexpectedly taken them out as well," Elijah bitterly remarked as he also hung up on an unanswered call to Hayley.
"Elijah, I know you're angry—" Maleny began but Elijah lost his temper and furiously bellowed.
"I AM BEYOND ANGRY WITH YOU BOTH!"
Maleny flinched but this time she didn't stay as quiet as she typically did. "DON'T SHOUT AT ME FOR SOMETHING YOU ALL DESERVED!"
"We deserved?" Elijah indignantly repeated, "Have you lost your mind—"
"YES!" Maleny screamed, now furious herself, "Because unlike you I am fighting for Hope and my son if you've forgotten! You can call me whatever you want but, just like you, I would do anything to get my son back. Hayley ran away from this family and you didn't even try to stop her because you firmly believed she was doing what was best for Hope!"
"It was the best decision to make—"
"THAT WAS NOT YOUR CALL TO MAKE!" Maleny had gotten close to his face when she shouted. Elijah blinked, her ferocity surprising him due to the fact she'd never expressed the emotion like that before. "It was a sole decision to be made by both Hayley and Klaus." Maleny continued, taking a step back. "We had a better, permanent way to keep Hope safe. Fault us for that, I don't give a damn what anyone thinks. All I know is that by the end of the day that little girl and my son will be free of Dahlia's wrath."
"Am I to assume that you know about this little switcharoo judging by your unsurprised face?" Rebekah strode into the room, not even going to address all the screams she had just listened to.
"Sorry," Maleny bitterly sighed, "but it was necessary."
"Sure," it was Rebekah's turn to sigh in bitterness, "Now, I just got a call from Freya. Dahlia is... incapacitated. They are two hours north at an orchard near Pale River. She has Hope."
"Told you," Maleny shot at Elijah then gestured for him to get going. For the first time in the entire night, Elijah agreed with her and vamp-sped away.

Freya was trying to handle a fussy Hope in her arms while waiting for someone to come and pick them up. She had no idea how she'd gotten there in the first place, and much less how Dahlia and Klaus became neutralized on the ground. She was more than relieved when Elijah appeared out of nowhere.
"Well," she sighed, "my adage holds- nothing good ever happens in a clearing in the woods."
"Nothing good ever happens where my brother is concerned," Elijah glanced at the two bodies on the ground. However, when he saw Hope perfectly safe his demeanor lightened, "With one exception. How is she?"
Freya smiled lightly, "She's a Mikaelson. She's resilient. When I woke, they were like this," she nodded over to the bodies, "Rebekah tells me Klaus has a plan to kill Dahlia, that he knew our plan would not work?"
"Yes, according to him and Maleny, our ingredients were incorrect. Niklaus infiltrated Dahlia's mind. You didn't break her heart. We needed the blood of the witch she loved the most, and you are not that witch—that honor goes to our beloved mother."
Although stunned, Freya was more frustrated than anything, "So, we need Esther's blood? Well, that's impossible—I killed her."
"One incarnation," Elijah said as if it weren't a problem, and truly it wasn't. Because at the same moment a certain new Regent witch was creating a resurrection spell. "

"Still nothing," Cami told Maleny once she hung up on a call towards Yamilet. The two blondes stood just outside the compound, still trying to get ahold of their two missing wolf friends.
"This is getting serious," Maleny bit her nail anxiously, "Alton doesn't answer, Yamilet doesn't answer, not even Hayley answers."
"Do you think it's a wolf thing?" Cami asked nervously, "Maybe something happened to them, and…"
"Nothing was supposed to happen," Maleny dropped her hand to her side, "I mean, I knew Klaus was angry and he was probably gonna hurt some of them, but not Hayley. We didn't really have anything planned except steal Hope."
"Yeah, you guys didn't, but what about Dhalia?" Cami arched an eyebrow, making Maleny stop and think for a moment.
Shakily exhaling, Maleny turned for the compound, "We need Amarrah to do a locator spell on Alton and Yamilet." However, she only made to the threshold when she glanced back and saw Cami staying right where she was. "Cami? C'mon. We have to get going."
Cami's eyes drifted to the second level and shook her head, "No, Mal. Elijah's back in there and he's pretty angry. I mean, I don't care, I'm still angry with him. But I don't want to see him. You've got a job for me tell me and I'll do it from my place or Amarrah's."
Maleny stared at her cousin for a minute before nodding, "Okay, I get it. It's awkward as hell. I'll tell Amarrah to meet you at her place so you guys can do the spell."
"Thanks," Cami warmly smiled and gave her cousin a hug before leaving.
Once gone, Maleny went on inside the compound, told Amarrah what to do then hurried up to the living room where Elijah had brought in Klaus and Dahlia. The two laid on the floor still neutralized.
"Nik is demented!" Rebekah was busy shouting, "Are we really to dig up our mother, burn her to ash, swap said ash with Kol's, and then trick Davina into using up her last chance to bring someone back from the dead? Not to mention we lose the opportunity to save Kol... if Davina doesn't turn us inside out!"
"Or, we dig a deep hole and leave both our problems at the bottom of it," Elijah muttered but was perfectly heard by Maleny.
"I say we choose a more permanent option: find the white oak stake, kill Klaus, Dahlia dies with him," Freya added afterwards.
"You're all terrible people," Maleny declared as she made an entrance, ignoring their looks, "Luckily, I'm well used to it."
"Mal, you can't just tell us you're okay with what we apparently need to do," Rebekah, exasperated, turned to the blonde.
"Of course I'm not okay with it. It's what must be done," Maleny crossed her arms, "Now you may hate Klaus more than ever but he did what none of you could: put Dahlia down. Now the plan relies on us to make sure she stays down permanently." She sighed and moved closer to where Klaus was, "I was supposed to go down with him and Dahlia, but I guess he managed to get Dahlia to de-link herself from me. I will not fail him, and like I told you Elijah, I will do anything for my son and Hope. Question is, will you help us or not?"
Before anyone could respond, they heard an odd noise and were appalled to see the dagger still embedded in Klaus' chest was beginning to melt.
"Oh!" Maleny jumped back, "It's...melting?"
Elijah deeply sighed, unsurprised something like that was happening, "I suppose we have no choice but to finish the task that Niklaus has set."
The others exchanged looks amongst each other while Maleny slowly inched back to Klaus, frantically watching the dagger continuing to melt.

Now in Amarrah's place, she and Cami worked on the locator spell for Alton and Yamilet. However, Cami could easily see the spell was not working with each irritated grunt Amarrah gave after chanting her spell over and over.
"What is it?" Cami sighed, preparing herself for the bad news.
"You remember the one time when I tried looking for Mal but couldn't because she'd already been forced to body jump?" Amarrah stared at the map that refused to give a location.
"Yeah," Cami slowly nodded, "What? Did Alton and Yamilet jump bodies or something?"
"Either that, or…" Amarrah looked up from the map with a heavy sigh, "...their bodies are no more."
"What...what exactly does that mean?" Cami inquired then, biting her lip anxiously.
"I don't know what happened but I know they're not quite themselves," Amarrah placed both her hands on the table and stared down at the map again, "Something happened in the bayou last night that has something to do with their bodies. And, since Hayley is also M.I.A. I'm willing to guess it's an entire wolf pack that's in the same predicament."

Davina overlooked her work with pleasure as she now knew she was mere minutes away from bringing Kol back from the dead. With the power of the Regent she had prepared every last detail of the spell and now proudly held the glass jar of Kol's ashes.
"It's gonna be weird," she began curiously, "seeing you with your original face." She walked to the end of a stone coffin that was to be used in the spell and was about to pour the ashes in when Maleny came in.
"He was the right devil, that Kol," she called and laughed when Davina looked at her heavily surprised by her appearance. "Yeah, I'm back, and this time I intend on staying here," she patted herself.
"I would have helped," Davina began guiltily and rushed out to meet the blonde, but Maleny raised a hand to stop her, "I was busy becoming Regent and-"
"It's fine, Davina," the blonde assured, "In the end, Klaus had Dahlia return me to my original body."
Davina made a face and muttered, "Well, I suppose he had to be useful for something."
Maleny only slightly gave a chuckle, as there was something important that needed to be done. "Davina, I know how much you want to bring Kol back but I need you to do something for me."
Davina suspected there was going to come something she didn't like, "What…?"
"There is only one witch strong enough to stop Dahlia, and that i, unfortunately, Esther. I need you to use your power as Regent to bring her back."
Davina's eyes widened in horror and immediately stepped back, "No! I only get one shot at this- I'm using it to bring back Kol."
"Davina I wouldn't be asking you this if there was another way, okay?" Maleny sighed, "We can get Kol back another way but-"
"No!" Davina repeated herself, more sternly, "I love you Mal, and yeah I've done things that hurt you but I will not do this for you. It's my chance and I'm not wasting it."
"Davina, I'm begging you—"
"NO!" Davina shouted, without thinking using her magic to blast Maleny back. As the blonde groaned on the ground, Davina had a momentary guilt flash in her eyes. "Mal, I'm…" but she sighed and shook her head, "...I'm not doing it. I'm sorry."
Maleny lifted her head off the ground, grimly staring at the teen across her.

Freya worked her best to slow down the melting dagger, or to stop it altogether. However, there were no good results. "It's no use- I can't slow her magic," she groaned, "Everything I'm trying fails."
Marcel could easily see she was right. Suddenly, they heard a soft whisper and a creak, and as the two looked around they saw vines covered in black dahlias were growing inside the room.
"There's gotta be a way to kill her," Marcel breathed in, horrified to see such power even when Dahlia was meant to be unconscious.
Freya took out the white oak stake she'd found in the room earlier and held it up, "There is," she regretted to announce.
"No, Freya!" Marcel lunged to get the stake away from her but Freya used her power to pin him to the wall.
Freya turned back for Klaus and Dahlia, almost trembling as she grew closer. She saw the dagger was almost completely melted and felt like it was her obligation to stop things once and for all.
"Freya, we can find another way!" Marcel frantically pleaded with her, still trying to break free from her spell.
"I'm sorry, but I see no other way," Freya was almost in tears as she knelt down beside Klaus.
"No! No! No! You kill him, you kill me, too!"
Freya sniffled and sniffled, until she was almost hysterical, "I don't want to kill you! I don't want to kill him!" but even though her sight was becoming blurry she could see the dagger was almost gone. "This is the family I longed for, but because of her-" she angrily gritted her teeth as she cast a look over to Dahlia, "-I'll forever be alone," she raised the stake up, and was about to push it down when she felt Klaus suddenly grip her wrist.
The gold dagger had completely melted and thus released him from its effects. He had managed to hear Freya's touching words and no longer looked at her with hatred.
However, there wasn't much time to contemplate on the moment when Dahlia gasped awake. She jerked upright, furious of what had been done to her.

From the threshold, Maleny silently watched Davina perform the resurrection spell to bring 'Kol' back. She didn't dare move nor say a word, for she knew there would be tension afterwards. And this time, it would be her fault.
Davina anxiously watched two hands grip the edges of the stone coffin, presumably Kol. However, when Davina stared harder, she noticed the hands were more feminine and when Esther Mikaelson rose up, she became enraged.
"Who the hell are you!?" she demanded.
But this time Esther was quite innocent, she didn't even know why she was alive again...and in her old body!
It didn't take long before Davina put the pieces together. "MALENY!" she yelled and whirled to the blonde who'd now gotten up, "You did this!?" the indignation in her tone was more evident than was her anger. "Mal…" her voice broke, "...how could you?"
"Just like you've done many times before," Maleny answered quietly, walking over to grab a decent blanket for Esther to take. "Because I felt it needed to be done. Elijah?"
"What-" Davina barely got the word out when Elijah super sped inside holding dark chain cuffs. The tears welled down Davina's face, her fury combined with despondence, "That was my only chance!" she cried, gesturing to Esther, "That was Kol's only chance!"
"Davina, I told you we can find another way-" Maleny tried to get through to the teen, but it was of no use.
"I HATE YOU!" Davina blurted towards the blonde, and while the statement meant nothing to Elijah, nor Esther, it immensely weighed on Maleny.
Maleny did not try to defend herself, nor plead for her forgiveness. She accepted her fault with her head held up high, but with her eyes full of tears.
Rebekah then sped into the room, yanking Davina away from her brother and friend, "I'm so sorry, love. I promise, we'll get Kol back - just not today," she told the teen before putting her under a sleeper-hold. While she did that, Elijah sped to Esther and cuffed her wrists to cancel out her magic.
"Careful with her," Maleny cautioned Rebekah once Davina had fallen unconscious. "She might despise me, but I don't want her getting hurt."
"That's the cost of getting your son back," Rebekah threw her words back, something Maleny expected.
"I know," Maleny nodded, "And when I hold my Nicolas again it will all be worth it."
She truly believed so.

Freya and Marcel helped Klaus stand and stepped away from Dahlia who was rising on her own. She was furious and looked as if she were ready to kill them all right there and then.
"I'm almost impressed by the lengths you'd go to for your little girl," she told Klaus, "Though you may have just cost your little blonde her own son...and you," she added afterwards with a smirk just as she ripped the white oak stake from Freya's free hand.
"We are still linked, dear aunt. You may not want to punish me with that particular weapon," Klaus reminded, though inside he was anxious as he knew he wasn't quite up to his strength to fight against her.
"Hmm, I made sure that the link between us melted along with that dagger," Dhalia stepped back, "Meaning... I'm quite free to kill you!" she used her magic to force him to come to her in order to be staked.
Marcel lunged for the hybrid and tackled him to the floor to keep him from reaching Dahlia. Dahlia used the distraction to make her escape. Hope's sudden crying made the two vampires speed into the nursery room where Dahlia's vines had nearly covered the entire room. They wrapped themselves around Hope's cradle and moved towards the infant and pricked her finger with a thorn, drawing out blood.
Klaus snatched Hope from her crib and backed away. Marcel watched the vines soon disappear as if nothing had ever been there in the first place. "Why'd she do all this? She doesn't need Hope anymore."
"She got what she wanted from the very start - to break the slumber spell and acquire a fresh new magic supply," Klaus sighed, "Unfortunately, I have no idea where the vile harpy has fled to."
Marcel shook his head, "Alright, go. Get Hope someplace safe. I'll track down your witch. And, when this is over, you and I are gonna settle up."
Klaus took his warning with a sense of amusement, "Provided we survive what's to come tonight, I look forward to it."
After several minutes, Klaus realized Dahlia had taken Freya with her as well. Carrying Hope with him, he entered the courtyard. At the same time, Amarrah and Cami strode into the place.
"Good, you're up," Amarrah called sarcastically, "you wanna tell us what the hell happened to Alton and Yamilet? We can't seem to reach them nor find them."
Klaus looked around for a moment, figuring now was as good as a time to let them all know what really happened to the wolves in the bayou. As if time was agreeing with him, Maleny came in.
"So, um," the blonde began, still carrying teary eyes, "Davina hates me. Oh! And your mother's back," she ran her hands through her hair, "Win, win, I guess…"
Cami looked between her and Klaus, suspiciously, "Go one by one, tell us what happened to the wolves and what did you do to Davina?"
"The wolves?" Maleny blinked, "What's happened with them?"
Dramatically, Klaus sighed and just came out with it, "Dahlia acquired a memory from Maleny and put Hayley and the rest of her pack under the Crescent curse once again."
"And because Alton and Yamilet were at the Unification ceremony they were cursed too…" Amarrah was horrified, her hand covering her mouth, "Oh my God!"
Even Maleny was distraught by the news, "What? That...that wasn't part of the plan. She...she wasn't...she wasn't supposed to do that!" she began to pace back and forth, but stopped when an even bigger realization hit her, "Yamilet was the only one who knew where my old corpse was! Oh my God! My curse!"
"Mal! Mal, stop!" Cami forced Maleny to stop her pacing by grabbing her shoulders. "Mal, we got that covered."
"How?"
"Yamilet told us that Esther and Finn kept your old corpse at the graveyard. We know where it is."
Maleny's face lightened up immensely and gasped, "So, my...my curse, it's…" her hand flapped excitedly as she began to realize what it meant, "...I can break my curse! Oh! I can break my curse!" in her excitement, she pushed Cami to the side, the blonde vampire merely blinking with surprise because of it. Maleny went up to Klaus who was already smiling, "Do you hear that? I get to break my curse - finally!"
"There had to be some kind of happiness in the midst of all this," he touched her face, "Which is why I want you, Cami and Amarrah to get started on that."
Maleny's smile faded a little and she shook her head, "What? No, I can't. We have to find Dahlia, because I assume since you've woken up and you're kind of clutching Hope, that she's up and escaped."
Klaus took a shaky breath, disliking his words as they came out of his mouth, "I might not be here for tomorrow but if I leave I will know that you broke your curse and that you will keep fighting for Nicolas," he gently passed Hope to her, "and for Hope."
"I swear to God if you keep talking like that I'll kill you," she sniffed, "And when you come back I'll kill you again."
As always, Klaus just chuckled at her antics, "Go and break that curse. Cami and Amarrah will be there, and please look after Hope."
"She'll be fine," Cami said in the end, "They'll both be," she added with a small smile,
Klaus nodded, for once able to believe easily in another person. He kissed Hope's head then Maleny's cheek, giving them both one last smile before speeding out of the compound. For a minute, all was silent in the place and neither Amarrah nor Cami spoke a word for fear of what Maleny would do. In the end, Maleny growled in frustration and sniffled.
"We should, um...we should get started," Amarrah whispered, "The spell's old and I'll need to channel my entire coven back home."
"Fine," Maleny nodded for them to get a start. As the two women walked for the stairs, Maleny sniffed in and pressed a kiss to Hope's head, "It's going to be okay, my Hope. It's got to be."

Klaus was delighted to see his mother shackled and forced to sit on a chair, while Elijah stood behind at a table full of several knives. They had relocated the Original witch to the jazz club where they would then prepare for the final battle with Dahlia.
"Let me guess," sighed Esther as she looked around her two sons, "you brought me back from the dead to torture me."
Behind her Elijah rolled his eyes, "My dear mother, we simply need your blood. Though, in the event that you should suffer horribly, I can't promise I won't enjoy it immensely."
"And I've arrived just in time for another one of your deaths," Klaus grinned wickedly, "and as much as I appreciate the front-row seat, I'm afraid I'm going to have to postpone the festivities."
"You're in excellent spirits," Elijah muttered, "Despite the losses we suffered - by the way," he raised a glance at him suspiciously, "Care to explain to us where is Hayley?"
"Well, Dahlia pulled an unexpected stunt and cursed her to the Crescent's curse."
It took a minute for that to process through Elijah's mind, and then he shouted, "WHAT!? And you let it happen!?"
"There wasn't much to do in the moment!" Klaus yelled back, though much lower than Elijah. He expected the reaction, "I'm no bloody witch! I had everything calculated but Dahlia pulled the memory from Maleny and kept it to herself!"
"And what are we to do then, hm? Just leave Hayley out there in the bayou? Cursed to the body of a beast?"
"Of course we will bring her back, but right now I'm more interested in killing Dahlia," Klaus pulled out a silver knife from his jacket's pocket and glanced at his mother, "I need her blood on this blade which I've had bound with the soil from Dahlia's homeland, not to mention Viking ash. Mother's demise will have to wait. You see, I need her to weaken Dahlia's defenses. Bit of psychological warfare before I slaughter the both of you."
Esther rolled her eyes, "Ah, yes. You expect me to walk willingly to my death."
"Well, your willing participation would have been a bonus, but it's far from necessary. If needs be, I'll drag you there myself."
At that moment, Rebekah walked into the place, "Yes, dear Mother, you do not have a choice. Then again, why should you be any different from the rest of us? We're all dancing puppets in Nik's end-of-days marionette show. He forces every move we make."
"And how long are you gonna stand there and pretend you don't need me to?" Klaus snapped at her, fed up with being blamed for something he believed they'd earned, "The both of you have fought me at every turn, leaving me no choice but to act alone! We're no strangers to disagreements on the battlefield, but we also have a very long history of doing whatever it takes to win the war."
"And that includes leaving Hayley on her own?" Elijah asked, instigating Rebekah's attention.
"What of Hayley?" she looked between her two brothers.
"It appears our brother allowed Dahlia to place the Crescent curse on Hayley and her pack," Elijah gestured to Klaus, making Rebekah's eyes widened in horror.
"What!?"
"I didn't plan it!" Klaus defended himself, "It happened!"
"Oh don't bother, Nik," Rebekah shook her head, "This was all just a great big punishment."
"Punishment?" Klaus then feigned thought, "Whatever for? Perhaps the dagger you put in my heart?"
"You brought that upon yourself!" Elijah declared.
"As you have with your own pain," Klaus responded back in the same exasperation he was being treated with. "I did what I did for my children, and I bargained the hell out of it for Maleny. Unlike you, I am willing to do whatever it takes to protect them. Tell me, how is Cami?" he sarcastically, yet more angrily than ever, inquired, "Last time I heard you fought against her and snapped her neck. And for what? Oh yes, to dagger me. You chose family over the woman you love," seeing Elijah's stunned expression of the revelation Klaus was pretty sure he hadn't yet made was all the more satisfying, "How big of you, I'll say. And how costly it was. I would have worked alongside her, and…" he lightly chuckled to himself, "...I did. I worked together with Maleny, and look where it got us to? Perhaps this time, brother, you should have followed my actions."
With that, Klaus grabbed Esther by the shackles and made his way out the door, leaving Elijah to ponder on his recent choices.

Under a dark starry night Maleny clutched Hope - who was bundled up for the weather - as she and Amarrah watched Cami hurriedly digging up the grave where Maleny's previous corpse was stored.
"Where are we going to do this?" Cami asked once her shovel hit the coffin.
"In the Dawson crypt," Amarrah responded and rubbed Maleny's arm when the blonde witch gave an uncomfortable shift. "It's the safest place."
"How's that for irony?" Maleny mumbled under her breath.
When Cami had retrieved the corpse - which was still in perfect condition thanks to the spells cast over it - the three women relocated to the Dawson crypt. As Cami put down the corpse on a wooden table, Maleny couldn't bring herself to step inside the place. Amarrah came up beside her and smiled softly at her. "I know it's hard, but remember they're all gone now."
"Kids are here," Maleny whispered.
"With no memories," reminded Cami. "Now c'mon, we have a spell to get started on."
Maleny sucked in a breath and took one small step inside, feeling like all the ancestors of the Dawsons were watching her like hawks. She knew after her latest stunt against the new Regent she was less than welcomed at the graveyard. It wouldn't be long before they started going against her.
Amarrah had set a spell book on a nearby the corpse and was already beginning the preparations of the spell. Cami walked towards the entrance to check their perimeters in the meantime.
"How long is it going to take?" Maleny asked, slowly coming forwards.
"About an hour?" Amarrah estimated after skimming the entire spell again.
"How ever long it takes-" Cami returned from her checking, "-we have to be prepared for what might be coming."
"What do you mean?" Amarrah looked at her.
"Look, Klaus made it pretty clear Dahlia could win-"
"She won't," Maleny interrupted with a deep scowl, but Cami continued.
"If she does, we're going to need to run. I say we wait until midnight and if we see...things didn't go our way...we get the hell out of here. With Hope," Cami nodded to the languid toddler in Maleny's arms.
"We can't go anywhere. First of all, Nicolas knows he has to come here," Maleny reminded, "And second of all, Dahlia isn't going to win."
"We don't know that for sure," Cami insisted. "And if it does happen, then we can find a way to contact Nicolas. But we have to go by midnight. Think about Hope."
Maleny knew Cami's back up plan was logical and that it would be better for Hope if they weren't in the same city as Dahlia should she manage to stay alive. Klaus would want his daughter far, far away from the war zone - he proved it once by sending her away.
"Mal," Cami sighed, now speaking to her as what they had always been - cousins - and not as the logical vampire in the room, "it's for everyone's safety."
Maleny looked down at Hope he had rested her head on Maleny's shoulder, apparently becoming sleepy. "Yeah," she whispered. "It is."
"So then it's agreed," Cami shifted her attention to Amarrah, "How are we doing?"
"Good," Amarrah took in a deep breath after looking up from the spell book. "I can feel my coven's connection growing stronger. I think they're ready to start."
"So what do I need to do, then?" Maleny inched closer to the table after handing Hope to Cami.
"Well, it's simple in that I only need to repeat like three sentences..." Amarrah's widened smile made Maleny's stomach churn. She came to learn what that smile usually meant.
"Buuuuut...it might hurt a little..." Amarrah's face told Maleny it would hurt a lot instead.
"What's gonna happen?" Maleny dreaded to ask.
"I'm sorry," Amarrah began like this was her fault. "It's just you share a strong connection with the Dawson bloodline because of your repeated sacrifices. So to break the connection...a thousand-year connection...well, how many lives have you had?"
Maleny's eyes widened in horror. "Oh my God..."
"Just...get ready to scream," Amarrah sighed.
"What choice do I have?" Maleny whispered to herself as she watched Amarrah turn to face the corpse again.
"Come here," Amarrah gestured for the blonde to extend her hand forwards. "I need your blood to fall on the corpse. The connection will break as soon as it all turns to ash."
"Here goes nothing," Maleny turned her palm and allowed Amarrah to draw a knife from her bag she brought along.
Amarrah gently cut across the palm and moved Maleny's hand over the corpse and allowed the blood to trickle down. Afterwards, she repeated the same with Maleny's other hand. She chanted louder, and more aggressively, as if there was power going against her. Her voice then began overlapping with others', thus letting Maleny know the French coven had joined in the on the spell.
And then Maleny felt the most vicious pain start at the side of her head. With shaking hands she brought them to her head and released her agonizing scream that pierced both Amarrah's and Cami's ears. Even poor Hope had begun to cry. Amarrah kept her eyes screwed shut and focused her entire energy on chanting the spell. Cami had sped to the entrance where the screams were a tad less - for Hope's sake - and watched Maleny crumple to her knees on the ground.

Dahlia had taken Freya to a warehouse full of antique cars, but otherwise empty of witnesses - not that the older witch cared who saw. She intended on killing Freya there and then, moving onto the younger Mikaelsons afterwards. She had locked Freya in salt circle and for a minute choked her with magic. It didn't last long before the others found her whereabouts and prevented her from harming Freya longer.
"Bringing vampires to a witch fight. Someone hasn't learned their lesson," Dahlia, amused, look at the two siblings.
"Well, I can be a bit thick sometimes…" Klaus swayed his hard, sarcastically looking around just as he heard Elijah bringing in Esther by the shackles. "Although, on this occasion, I'd say I took your lesson to heart."
Dahlia was visibly stunned to see her younger sister there, alive, and shackled. However, it soon passed and she laughed, "My sister... in chains? Hahaha! Is... is she to be a gift to buy your freedom? Because I brought something," and she pulled out the white oak stake she'd snatched from Freya earlier.
The sight of the stake, while nerve-wrecking, provoked incredulity in the siblings. "One stake, three of us?" Klaus asked, "Even if you don't hesitate, the other two will rip you in half."
"Sound thinking. But... small thinking," Dahlia telekinetically threw the stake up into the air and caused it to break into millions of tiny pieces, almost like snowflakes, that sprinkled over the entire room. She then directed them to the three Originals, giving them no choice but to breath the pieces in.
Dahlia ignored the pleads and addressed Esther, gleefully, "Now, sister, let us watch together as I burn your children from the inside out."
Esther stared at her dying children for a minute before heading for Dahlia, "You still carry around so much anger for me after all these years?"
"You broke your vow!" Dahlia snarled, "We were to stand together, always and forever, and you left to marry that brutish Viking imbecile. You ended my family, and they were the result." She used her powers to blast the three Originals backward, and caused their veins to grow redder with the white oak, along with their skin.
"You call this my wrongdoing?" Esther shouted, "You made me bargain away my firstborn child! My daughter!"
"Not just this firstborn, but every firstborn!" Dahlia clarified for future references, as there were still two bearers that would be left after she was done with the people in front of her. "And even then, you found a way to deny me that which you had sworn to be mine! How do you think that felt?"
Klaus had tried to lunge towards the witch with the blade that was sure to work, but was easily thrown back alongside his siblings.
Dahlia smiled at Esther, "Now, Esther, say goodbye to the last of your children." She returned to her torturing and forced Freya into the choke-hold. Before she could finally kill the blonde witch, Esther called to her.
"Sister, wait! Wait!" she managed to get Dahlia to hold off the killing, but not to let go of Freya, " You've won, Dahlia. You have everything you ever wanted, including the firstborn of new generations! You have bested us all. At least let me try to make amends," she walked closer to her sister, coming face-to-face, "Let me share with you the glorious freedom that I have found... in death."
Without warning, she lunged for Dahlia and entangled her with the shackles around her neck, forcing Dahlia to release Freya as she fought. Once free, Freya broke the imprisoning circle around her and used magic to free the air of the white oak stake and cure her siblings. Although the three coughed up blood and dust for a minute or two, they felt their strength quickly returning to them.
Esther knew she wouldn't be able to hold Dahlia forever, and so she called out, "Elijah?" desperately, she glanced back at the others, nodding for them to do what they must for things to be over.
Elijah picked up the blade from the floor and tossed it to Klaus who wasted no time in speeding to the two women and stabbing Esther through the back, making it go through Dahlia's heart in the process. The term 'killing two birds with one stone' never had such a meaning until that moment.

"Aaaaaand…" Amarrah carefully poured the last of the corpse's ashes into a glass jar, "...here we go," she finished with one great, big smile and placed the lid over the jar just as Cami walked into the crypt with Hope in arms.
"I put Maleny in the car - but she's really out like a light," she briefly explained and eyed the ornamented jar.
"She'll be out for hours," Amarrah closed the spell book and dumped it into her bag. "A thousand years to break free from? I admire her strength."
Cami gave an agreeing smile. "So is that it, then?" she nodded to the jar.
"Yup," Amarrah picked up the jar. Maleny's freedom had been like an hourglass with its trickling sand falling down. The last bit of sand was the last bit of ash that proclaimed Maleny's freedom for the rest of her life. "Maleny has finally broken her curse. She's free."
"Finally," Cami chuckled out of pure happiness for her 'cousin'.
Amarrah grabbed her purse and turned to her. "I think we should get back to the compound. If we do need to run we're going to need things from there."
Cami agreed with a nod of her head. "You're right. We should go."
Arriving at the compound they were pretty disappointed to find it completely empty. Cami brought Maleny up to her bedroom while Amarrah went to put Hope down for a nap in the meantime they collected some of the important things they would need for the run. However, Cami had finished quick and found Amarrah still trying to get Hope to sleep.
"I think she needs Hayley," Amarrah sighed as Hope continued to fuss in her crib. "Don't you worry Hope, I'm going to get that curse reversed, you'll see."
"Can you actually reverse the Crescent curse?" Cami had to ask Amarrah. "The witch who originally cast it was a powerful one, and she's long gone."
Amarrah sighed. "It's not going to be easy, but I'm not gonna give up. I'll go back to France if I have to, but this spell will not take our friends away from us. And speaking of, I think if we do have to leave, then we should go to France. It's far, Dahlia has no idea who I am no where I come from so it'll be long before she finds us."
Cami nodded in agreement, but seemed discontent. "I can't believe I might actually have to run from this place…" she chuckled bitterly, "After everything, this is still my home. I was born here - I died here."
"I would've thought after everything you would be happy to get the hell out of the Quarter," Amarrah admitted, "Dying here because of an old vampire family," she began counting off with her fingers, "Fighting for your basic survival every day, getting your heart broken by the man you love-"
Cami's eyes widened and immediately cut Amarrah off, "I don't - I don't love anyone!"
Amarrah gave her a pointed a look, almost scolding her for wasting time in denying. "Cami, it's okay. He's not here, you can be honest."
"I don't," Cami insisted, huffing as she crossed her arms.
"I'm not gonna do this," Amarrah warned the blonde, "One does not simply fight a thousand old witch for a guy she just met," she laughed.
"I was doing it for Mal!"
"Yeah, and Elijah because you didn't want anything to happen to him. And you wouldn't be this hurt because of what he did to you, snapping your neck and all."
Cami rolled her eyes, heavily tired of having to repeat, "I'm not angry because he snapped my neck! No one gets it!"
"Point and case," Amarrah gestured and laughed again, much to Cami's annoyance.

When the Mikaelsons began to return to the compound, Cami and Amarrah were long finished with their "emergency packing" so they were partially irritated to know they would have to unpack.
"Your fault for not having faith us," Rebekah playfully told them both.
Meanwhile, Klaus was scoping the nearby areas for the missing blonde in the room. Seeing his frantic movements, Amarrah called to him. "She's unconscious, but in her room."
"Is she...?" he turned around.
"Free from a thousand-year curse? Oh yeah," Amarrah smirked. "That's one point for the French witch," she raised a finger. "The ashes of the corpse are in the jar—" she pointed towards said jar that sat on the coffee table, "—there. I don't know if Maleny wanted to do something special with them."
Klaus didn't bother remarking and instead hurried out of the room. To his luck, Maleny had began to stir awake on her bed. She had just taken a breath in to open her eyes when he came in.
"Mal," he went directly for her like she was still in danger.
Maleny was a bit disoriented from her long 'sleep' so it took her a moment to register where she was and who was currently holding her. "We...won?" she languidly blinked.
"Yes," Klaus couldn't help smile at her. He helped her sit up a bit but let her rest against his chest. "I heard you had a winning too..."
"Did I?" she raised her eyebrows as she tried remembering just what had happened earlier. Her head was a bit groggy from the massive pain but she was sure that somewhere along that pain she must have beat the curse. "Yeah...I think I did..."
"Yes you did," Klaus set a kiss on her hair and held her just a bit closer, "Amarrah put the ashes into a jar if, uh, wanted to place them somewhere special..."
Maleny thought about it for a moment but frowned when nowhere 'special' came to mind. "I don't...know. I'd like for it to be meaningful."
But while she pondered more, Klaus had already come up with an idea of his own. "Mystic Falls." Maleny looked up at him, confused etched across her face. "Mystic Falls is where we were born...where we practically died..."
"I...like it," Maleny gave a small nod, still half considering it in her mind. "Definitely meaningful..."
"And, we could take advantage to visit so that you could finally get the connection you wanted with your mother, remember?"
Of course Maleny remembered. It now meant even more because she was, once again, a witch. No more linked to anyone meant her powers were free, albeit limited, but they were hers. "Yes," she finally agreed completely. "Let's bury them there. When can we go?"
"Any day you want, just tell me."
"Okay," Maleny smiled to herself. "Now tell me what happened with Dahlia."
"Gone forever," Klaus answered, like a promise. "Along with Esther which just makes it even more better."
Maleny chuckled. "The more people who die, the better right?"
"If they're enemies then of course."
Maleny laughed again.

At Rousseau's, Cami had taken to cleaning out the place since she had let her job slowly go down the drain. She knew it would be only a matter of time before the place went under new management and the job she had would be terminated. While cleaning out a table, she was unexpectedly visited by her friend, Gia, whom she hadn't seen in quite a while.
"My God this place is awful," Gia crinkled her nose in distaste as she wiped a finger over a table and gathered dust, "Doesn't anyone clean it?"
Cami looked up from the table she was at and glared, "Ha, ha, the bartender's been a little bit busy."
"Yeah, fighting the old wicked witch of the west," Gia put her hands behind her back, "Who, I heard, killed Josephine?" Cami sighed and continued to clean the table, "I would've liked a piece of that."
"Trust me, you really wouldn't have," Cami shook her head and grabbed and headed back to the counter for a fresh new cloth.
"Marcel told me everything was fine now and that everything should go back to normal," Gia walked up to the counter and plopped down on a stool, "Which, kinda leaves me wondering what the hell you're gonna do now?"
"Hmm?" the blonde quizzically looked at the woman.
"C'mon, Cami," Gia sighed, "You and I both know that you plainly forgot about the whole psychology major. You went back to school for about two weeks before going M.I.A."
"Yeah, because Maleny was kidnapped, and," Cami awkwardly cleared her throat, "Esther had taken Elijah. I had to help find them."
"Okay, fair enough," Gia nodded, "But what about afterwards?"
"I was busy at the safe house with Elijah," Cami said.
"And after?"
"...busy again?"
Gia tilted her head, "You were busy, I get it. But you also have to admit that ever since you turned you haven't exactly been motivated to go back to school - at least that's what you've let me assume by everything you told me about yourself."
Cami threw her head back, groaning, "I know, I know. It's...complicated. The whole reason I went into the major was because of my brother. But now that I know what happened, and there's so much more to this world than the humans know...I can't go back to school and let everything just slide."
"Then what do you want to do?" Gia asked, "Because my place is always an offer for you if you want to leave the Quarter. Give yourself a break."
"No," Cami instantly declared. "I don't want to leave this place. This is my home and I don't intend on leaving it for anything."
"Okay," Gia chuckled while Cami sighed, "Then what do you want?"
"I want to make this a better place for everyone," Cami answered honestly, crossing her arms, "Before, there were these factions and because of who I am, I was supposed to take the leadership for the humans."
"But you're not human anymore…." Gia reminded gently, "Can't exactly do that anymore.."
"No," agreed Cami, "but these people need someone. Since the Correas are gone, there hasn't been much leadership…" the more Cami got to thinking, the more inclined she felt to stay in the Quarter.
"Oh my God," Gia said after a moment, realizing just what Cami was intending on doing.

"So you're telling me everyone in that town practically hates you?" Maleny asked after hearing the brief telling of Mystic Falls from Klaus. "Why am I not surprised?"
"It's not my fault they're all irritating, know-it-all, baby vampires," Klaus rolled his eyes, just the mere memory of some of the residents of Mystic Falls put him on edge.
Maleny chuckled. "So, by definition, if they hate you they'll probably hate me too?"
"I don't want to lie-"
"There's a sentence no one would ever think you'd say." Maleny tilted her head up to meet his unamused look. "Did I annoy you like the Bennett witch you talked about? Boy, you really hate witches. I wonder how you stand me then."
"Because you-" Klaus purposely brought her impossibly close to him, getting a small yelp from her part, "-are far more different than any of these people."
Maleny decided to play with him for a bit. "But I'm just a mortal witch now. Where does that leave me, then?"
"You're a special case, my love," he pressed a kiss to her cheek. "You're slightly less irritating."
"Oh," she looked to the side, feigning offence, "Well then I guess I'll just have to go find myself a less murderous vampire. In fact, I'll get a head start tomorrow when we go visit that town."
"Don't you dare," he warned her darkly, but it made no effect on her.
She liked it, actually, and continued to tease him about it, "Yeah, I'll ask Elijah who was the most irritating vampire for you and then seduce him."
"Mal…"
"I'll start off with a nice couple of drinks," she continued, "Do they like bourbon?"
"Maleny…"
"I don't have a signature move, but I heard from Amarrah the blonde thing is really big in this modern world," she gestured to her hair, "So maybe I'll just flip my hair and batter my eyes. That's what got you, wasn't it?
"Maleny!"
"In fact, I'll go ask Elijah right now!" she declared and made to leave but was yanked back immediately. She laughed and shifted to face him. Needless to say, Klaus wasn't happy one bit. "You didn't like my joke?"
"You mean where you joke about you leaving me for some other man? And an irrelevant man at that?" Klaus placed a hand on her cheek, his soft voice ending all of Maleny's thoughts on pushing more of his buttons.
"You know I'm only joking," she spoke quietly. "After a thousand years do you think there could ever be someone else?" she cupped his face, smiling widely at him. "Now I think maybe you're the one that still has things to learn about this world."
She laughed for a second before pressing her lips to his. She wound her arms around his neck while he pulled her practically on him. Remembering the many times he wanted to kiss her while she was stuck in Yamilet's body turned it all into more urgent kissing. Without a warning, Klaus turned Maleny over so that she laid on her bed. She barely had time to gasp when he connected his lips to hers again. They fiercely kissed, both with equal fervor for each other.
It had been quite some time since they both found their selves in the same predicament, and now that they were free...there was so much time to take advantage of.

Cami walked out of Rousseau's on her own, and locked up while vowing to be back tomorrow for her shift she would now take more serious. When she finished up, she began down the street, intending on heading for her place instead of Amarrah's. Everyone had a home, and while she would much rather be where her cousin was, she didn't feel like she belonged there anymore. And when she came across Elijah on the street, she still felt the same.
"Can I help you?" she asked, doing her best to keep her voice serious and stern.
"I want to have a talk," Elijah began calmly, but already he was being met with difficulty.
"I don't have anything to talk to you about," Cami shook her head.
"Well, I do."
"Well, I don't care anymore."
"Cami," Elijah sped up to her, taking her by the arm, "I beseech you to listen, please. While we won much tonight, we also lost several things...and for me, I lost your friendship. I know what I did was wrong and it will take long before you can consider me even an acquaintance."
Cami sighed and pulled her arm from his grip, "It's difficult to forgive you when you don't even understand what the reason for my anger actually is. You think it's because you snapped my neck, everyone thinks so. Except Mal. And do you know why?"
"No…" Elijah quietly said, waiting for her to explain.
"Because she understands the pain of being cast out by the one you love," and as Cami continued to explain she overcame her fear of admitting what it was she felt. "All this time you have told me that I was part of the family. That my place was at the compound with you, with Maleny, with everyone there. But when worst came to show, you went back on your word. You showed me that I will never be one of you. The plan you made to dagger Klaus, you made with Rebekah, with Freya, hell, even Marcel and Hayley. You didn't even consider what my opinion would have been. I may not have a good concept of what love is, but I've had an example to go by."
"It's true I didn't consider your opinion on the matter, but it was a rash decision, one that needed to be made fast," Elijah tried to explain himself, "Niklaus was becoming far too paranoid and there had to be a stop. The decision was made amongst my family because they were there. And besides, you show more loyalty to Maleny, thus then to Klaus. You would have fought against me, like you did."
Cami's eyes teared up as she bit back a bitter laugh, "You chose your sisters' opinions over mine, you didn't even consider what mine would've been. Do you know," she bitterly laughed, "if there's one thing I've come to admire from Klaus since I've known him, it's his massive loyalty to Maleny. Because no matter what happened, he was there with her. He told her everything. And they fought against his own family, together. Their relationship may be highly unorthodox, but it's real, and honest. The girl in the forest," she recited Maleny's famous title, "The setting may have changed, the people may have changed, but they haven't. For Klaus, Maleny is the simple girl in the forest whom he fought for. And for Mal, he's her protector. I want that, Elijah," she sniffled, "I want someone who would fight for me, who would fight with me, against anyone. Until you can give me that, I don't think we should see each other anymore. If you need anything for Hayley's cause, or for Mal or Hope, I'll be there. But otherwise, I'm just another local in the Quarter. Goodbye."
Elijah swallowed roughly as the blonde woman turned to leave. His eyes had matched hers in tears, but after hearing what she had to say he wouldn't go after her anymore. She was right, he couldn't yet offer her what she wanted. He was too in depth with his promise to keep his family together. She deserved someone else who would stand by her against anyone, someone who would value her like she deserved. But it still broke his heart that it could not be him.
He thought back to Klaus, and his words...he had been, surprisingly, right.
~ 0 ~
Klaus shifted over the bed on his side to watch Maleny better in her deep sleep. He reached for the her next to him, gingerly stroking her hair, and smiled to himself. No more would she be leaving him. For once, he would have a good ending in one of the many tragic stories of the past. It became even better when he remembered their son was going to come home soon, and they would be able to make up for all they had missed in Nicolas' life. But for now, he would focus on what he already had with him.
The Girl in the Forest would be there with him forever.

Word Count: 2.9K
Warnings: Slight mention of being drugged, alcohol use, and that’s about it in this one.
Author’s Note: I’m doing things a little differently this part. I’m hoping it works out like I am hoping it will. I was able to sit down and write out this whole part without any interruptions and I am so surprised at how quickly this came out.
Feedback gives me life and motivation for future things. ♥
KM: Drinks tonight at The Local Bar?
CF:Yes!
EG: The usual time?
Y/I: Woah, wait a minute, since when does this group chat include Klaus?
CF:Hey, it also includes Elijah now.
Y/I: ...
Y/I: Fine.
CF: She’s rolling her eyes, isn’t she?
EG: Oh, yeah. And there was a reminder of needing to tell you how much she loves you thrown in.
KM: I’m so looking forward to that conversation.
Y/I: I think I’m gonna need a drink.
KM: I’ll take that as a yes for tonight.
EG: That’s a yes.
CF: She’ll even get the discounted drinks!
Y/I: Not everyone has agreed to this.
KM: He has no choice in the matter.
KM: Plus he’s currently stuck in a rather boring meeting with my older siblings. He’ll see these messages once he’s been freed from the torture.
Both Elena and Y/N looked up from the phone with a roll of their eyes. They had just loaded up all of the paintings Y/N needed for her showing. The car had been filled to the brim with the canvases she needed.
“I can understand that meetings can be boring.” Elena said with a shrug as she placed her phone back into her pocket and grabbed the last canvas to put in. “But I doubt its torture for Elijah.”
A chuckle passed Y/N’s lips as she closed up the unit. “I know he has been working on this new case that’s been stressful, but he hasn’t mentioned it being tortures. So, I’m going to take that message as Klaus being over dramatic about it.”
“Sounds fair to me.” Elena said with a shrug.
Y/I:Fine. But I’m not getting the discounted drinks. You guys can fend for yourself for a change.
The moment the message sent, Y/N pocketed her phone and helped Elena get the last canvas into the car. “Just one more stop, and then we can go home and get ready.”
“Do you really think it’s going to take us all day to get ready?” Elena asked once the canvas was in, and began making her way to the passenger seat.
“No,” Y/N said with a shake of her head as they got into the car. “It might take all day just to get me away from the gallery.”
Both girls laughed at that. Elena believed that was an actual possibility of needing to drag Y/N out of the gallery. Elena knew how much this showing meant to her. She was willing to help Y/N out in any way she could. The showing was only a few days away and the excitement for her friend grew.
“I’m sure I can lure you out somehow.” Elena said with a nod as Y/N started up the car.
“Or you could just threaten me with Caroline rushing in to drag me out.” Y/N shrugged “That usually works.”
Elena chuckled. “Something tells me this time I know exactly how to lure you out should you take too long.”
_____
“I’m surprised you haven’t checked your phone.” Freya said with a small smile on her face.
The siblings finally decided on a break halfway through making calls to have law enforcement collect new evidence. While they were making some progress in the case, the only thing that would make things work in their favor was the security footage from The Local Bar.
A sigh passed Elijah’s lips as he looked over at his phone on the other side of the table. The moment several notifications came through at once, he had wanted to check the phone. He had never been one to be so attached to the object outside of work. But with Y/N now in his life, he constantly felt the need to check it.
“If I grab it now, Finn will just return with more evidence that we need.” He shrugged slightly. “Why pull her into conversation when it might be cut short.”
Freya’s eyebrow raised. “I hope she doesn’t think you’re avoiding her.”
“Y/N understands why I don’t.” He nodded his head. “Plus, if I am correct, Y/N is busy herself. She’s getting the rest of her work to get the showroom ready.”
Freya crossed her arms over her chest. “All work and no play.” She said watching him for a moment. “All three of us have taken stress on from taking this case. Especially when it involves soulmates. We’re on edge.” She walked over and picked up Elijah’s phone and handed it to him. “A conversation with Keelin has been making me feel a lot more relaxed knowing she’s okay when I message her. Texting Y/N might do the same.”
Elijah eyed the phone for a moment before reaching for it. His sister had been right. For as worried as he had been the last several hours, he knew just messaging Y/N would make him feel better. As he unlocked his phone, his hope of relieving some of his worries faded.
“I’ve been pulled into a group chat.” He said as he looked up at his sister. “It seems as Niklaus has invited Y/N and her friends to The Local Bar tonight. And I’ve apparently had no choice in the matter, but to attend.”
Freya’s head tilted to the side as she took in her brother’s words. “If they are going to The Local Bar, it might be better for you to go with her. If what Lucien has said is true, the killer is still out there. It’s better to be safe than sorry.”
Elijah nodded his head. “I’d hate to become the overprotective soulmate that’s just come into her life, but given the circumstances-”
“She’ll understand.” Freya cut him off. “Y/N knows you’re working on a case. She knows that while some information can’t be shared, there are reasons for you to worry.” She placed her hand on his shoulder. “A quick message to her, either by text or by ink, it’s going to make you feel a lot better. And after work while at The Local Bar, you can explain some details and I’m sure she’ll understand.”
Elijah thought about her words. For now, Y/N was safe and by the looks of it with Elena. But that hadn’t stopped him from worrying. As his sister moved away from him, his eyes looked between the phone and the pen that sat beside his notepad. Reaching out in front of him, he grabbed the one thing that would make him feel better.

“These are wonderful, Y/N!” Joyce said as she watched her staff bring in the canvases out of Y/N’s car. “The images you’ve taken of them don’t do them justice. Seeing them in person is so much better.”
“Wait until you see the one she’s got back at the dorm.” Elena said as she beamed at Y/N.
“Joyce actually knows about it, Elena.” Y/N said as she looked over at her friend. “I’ve been sending Joyce progress pictures.”
“That one will definitely be the center of the showroom.” Joyce said with a nod. “I just love how raw and emotional it is in comparison to your other work.”
“I know someone else who will love it.” Elena said as she bumped her shoulder into Y/N’s.
Joyce caught the interaction and a smile pulled at her lips. “Will your muse being joining you on opening night?”
“I’ve been told he wouldn’t miss it.” Y/N answered with a smile on her lips.
“I look forward to meeting him.” Joyce said with a nod. “I’ll get these cleaned up, why don’t you look around and see where you want a majority of these to be placed.”
Y/N’s eyes widened. “You want me to choose?”
A chuckle passed Joyce’s lips. “Honey, you’ve been coming to the gallery for ages. You know the kind of eye appeal we look for when it comes to the showing. I know you won’t disappoint me.”
Busy?
A smile pulled at Y/N’s lips the moment she caught the words on her wrist. Pulling a pen, that she continuously put into her hair for safe keeping, out she began to write on her wrist.
For you? Never.
Good to know. Might come in handy in the future.
A smirk pulled at Y/N’s lips as she took in the message. She looked around for a moment, making sure she wasn’t missing anything. So far, no one made any mistakes on where she wanted things just yet. It was still all coming together.
Like the near future where your brother is forcing us to go out?
Perhaps.
I know it will be shocking to say, but seeing your writing has made this day less stressful.
I actually know what you mean. There’s more of a connection compared to texting.
At least it is not only me. How’s the gallery?
Unbelievable. I can’t wait for you to see this place.
Neither can I.
I can tell you all about it tonight?
I look forward to it. I’ll pick up soon.
Can’t wait.
_____
Laughter filled the table as the group sat in their usual spot. College war stories were being shared while the alcohol was flowing. While Y/N had denied getting them discounted drinks, Klaus stepped in and talked with Marcel about them.
As usual, Marcel gave in to the request since he had known the Mikaelsons and the girls for quite some time. Whenever his breaks happened, he found himself at the table with them, enjoying the time with them.
“Wait, that’s not how that happened.” Klaus argued, causing Elijah and Marcel to roll their eyes.
“I still have pictures from that weekend if you’d like me to show the girls.” Marcel said with a smirk.
“Oh I wanna see this.” Caroline said as she leaned into Klaus a bit.
The glare that Klaus had given Marcel had made Y/N laugh . “Wasn’t that the same glare we got the other night when we forgot about Caroline’s date with Klaus.”
Elena nodded as she grabbed her drink. “It was the glare for us and the pout filled puppy eyes for Caroline.”
“I’ve seen that plenty of times.” Elijah muttered under his breath. “Most of the time he had been in trouble.”
Both Elena and Y/N almost spit their drinks out as they tried to keep their laughter in. Elijah pulled Y/N into his side once her laughing fit started. With that, both Klaus and Caroline stood up from the booth. Groans and whines came from the others as they watched them do so.
“Klaus promised a dance or two.” Caroline said nodding her head towards the dance floor. “While staying her and drinking has been fun, dancing sounds even better.”
“Fine.” Y/N rolled her eyes and Elena moved to the edge of the circular booth.
“I’ll go get some more drinks.” She noted as she stood. “I’ll be back in five.”
Y/N shook her head slightly and looked up at Elijah. “It seems as if we’ve been purposely left alone.”
Elijah chuckled. “So it seems. Gives me a moment to talk to you about some things.”
Y/N’s eyebrow rose. “About what?”
“The case.” He said with a sigh. “The stress from it,” He shook his head. “Would you want to go to the cabin tonight instead of going back to your dorm?”
A grin pulled at her lips. “I’d love to. We’d just have to stop by the dorm, so I can pick up a few supplies.”
A chuckle passed Elijah’s lips as he leaned into her. “If those supplies include paints and canvases. You can just use what Niklaus has left behind.”
“Maybe I’d like to pick up other things.” She said as she brushed her lips against his.
A smirk pulled at Elijah’s lips. “Do tell.”
Before Y/N could say anything, the familiar squeals of Elena and Caroline reached her ears. A second later the music in the background registered in her ears, and she whined. “We’re about to be interrupted and I’m about to be taken away.”
Elijah chuckled as he leaned back. “We have the rest of the night.”
“Ooh somebody’s making plans on not coming back to the dorm tonight.” Caroline said as she reached the booth and pulled at Y/N’s arm. “Come on, you know we can’t miss this.”
Y/N sighed and slid to the end of the booth. “I promise I’ll be back.” She said giving him a smile. She watched as Klaus plopped himself into the booth before she let Caroline and Elena drag her away to the dance floor.
Elijah watched as the girls found themselves a place on the dance floor and began dancing together. While Elijah had been glad that everyone had been enjoying themselves, there was still that lingering worry about the place they were in.
“I don’t think I’ve see you happier.” Klaus said as he pulled his brother’s attention away from the girls.
“In the short time I’ve truly known her, I can’t see a life without her now.” Elijah admitted. While normally he wouldn’t have said such things to his brother. But seeing as Klaus had been drinking quite a bit, Elijah knew he’d hardly remember this conversation in the morning.
Laughter from the girls had mixed in with the music as it played. The small dance floor had made things crowded around them. But no matter how many times they may have bumped into someone, it hadn’t messed up their mood.
“Alright,” Caroline said as the song came to an end. “I think I may have one too many for the night, and I’m going to sit down for a bit.”
“Need us to walk you back?” Y/N asked wanting to make sure that Caroline was okay.
Caroline shook her head. “I can find my way back easily.”
“Alright.” Elena said with a nod as Caroline left them and made her way towards Klaus and Elijah.
The two stayed there continuing to dance together. Part of Y/N had an idea to call Elijah over. A small smirk pulled at her lips as she looked over at the booth. Before she could make any move to call Elijah over, she felt someone bump into her, distracting her. A moment later a sharp pain came over her side.
“Ouch.” Y/N said out loud as she looked down at her side for the cause of the painful poke.
“What is it?” Elena asked as she watched Y/N.
“It felt like something poked me. I think there might be something in my dress.” Y/N tried to feel the fabric against her skin to pinpoint anything. There had to be something if she had felt pain like that.
“Come on, we’ll go to the bathroom and check.” Elena offered.
“Let me tell Elijah we’re going.” Pulling the pen out of her hair, she quickly wrote a message on her wrist and looked towards Elijah.
Elijah noticed the writing appeared on his skin and his eyes quickly looked up. The moment they landed on Y/N he gave a head nod in understanding. There was definitely a perk of having this soulmate bond in a crowded place such as this one.
They began walking towards the bathroom a moment later. But the closer to the bathroom they got, Y/N felt off. Her head felt heavy and she swore her world was starting to spin. She stumbled slightly, but Elena caught her.
“Woah, how many have you had tonight?” Elena asked concerned.
Y/N shook her head. “Not enough to feel like this.”
Elena’s eyes widened as the words that come out Y/N’s mouth were slurred compared to a few minutes ago. Elena quickly looked around, noticing that their group wasn’t within sight.
“Shit,” She mumbled as she grabbed for the pen Y/N had put back in her hair moments before. She helped Y/N into a booth and quickly wrote on the back of her hand.
911! Something’s wrong with Y/N
Elena had tried to keep herself calm the whole time, not wanting to draw attention to them. Her eyes scanned for anything out of the ordinary. Nothing she saw raised a red flag. There was something out there, but it was obviously hidden in plain sight.
“What is it?” Elijah asked the moment he found them. His eyes went straight for Y/N, and she was barely holding her eyes open as she leaned against Elena.
“She felt something poke her.” Elena said moving so Elijah could move in to take a look at Y/N. Elena watched as Elijah adjusted Y/N, bringing her to the edge of the booth. “After she got her message to you, we started walking this way. But one moment she was fine and then the next she stumbled, her words were slurring instantly. I have a bad feeling about this Elijah.”
“Y/N, look at me.” Elijah’s voice sounded distorted to Y/N, but she opened her eyes as best as she could. Elijah’s blurry figure came into view.
“‘Lijah.” Even the simple word had been slurred. “What’s happening to me?” Even with her vision blurring, she hadn’t missed the way his jaw clenched at taking in her eyes or even at how she spoke.
Looking over his shoulder, he looked at Klaus and Caroline. “Call 911. we are going to need an ambulance here. And Klaus, don’t let Caroline or Elena out of your sight.”
Those had been the last words Y/N had heard before darkness closed in on her vision. Elijah caught her as she slumped forward. The drugs that had been put into her system had taken affect. While Elijah refused to say the words out loud, he knew they were right.
If it hadn’t been for Elena, Y/N would have been taken. And with every alarm going off in his head, it was telling him that Lucien was right. He was innocent in this.

The Original Sister, Chapter One:
Fandom: The Vampire Diaries
Series: The Original Sister
Pairings: Damon Salvatore/ Eriana Salvatore (Mikaelson), Stefan Salvatore/ Elena Gilbert.
Damon and Alaric were drinking, standing in the back of his living room. Rose, the vampire they had rescued from the Originals, had insisted that they call everyone they knew. She wanted to warn them of the danger that the first ever vampires held. The danger of the Mikaelson family. She was worried that her words of warning may be twisted if they were passed around by word of mouth.
Damon thought it was a trap, and he knew Alaric was on the same page. They were both scanning their surroundings, and if Alaric wasn’t armed, he would burn his leather jacket collection. If Rose wanted to know who would defend Elena, who the original family would face if they came to Mystic Falls, she now had them all in one room. It would be information the other side would want, and Rose could sell for her freedom if she needed to.
But Stefan and Elena had insisted that they do as she asked. They wanted to know the extent the original family would go to, what they were planning for Elena. It was why the whole Scooby gang was gathered in the room. Elena, Jeremy and Stefan had taken up the biggest couch, Elena squished in between the two over protective males. Bonnie was sitting on the arm of the chair beside Jeremy, listening intently to every word that left Rose’s lips. Damon almost wondered if she needed a pen and a pad of paper to jot down notes.
Most annoyingly to Damon, the newly werewolfed Tyler Lockwood was sitting beside Caroline in the smaller couch, very confused and looking around worriedly. Caroline apparently hadn’t had time to fill him in when she got the call, and Tyler refused to let her leave until she had explained everything. Therefore, the blonde vampire had decided to bring him with her. His warning to not let the werewolf know about vampires had apparently been forgotten about when Elena asked her to drop everything and rush to the boarding house.
The doorbell ringing both confused and annoyed him. His house was already over crowded with every supernatural creature in Mystic Falls, and he had no idea who was going to be on his doorstep. Nor how he was going to explain the large number of teenagers that should be in school but were instead on his expensive couches.
“I got it.” He sighed, taking another sip of his bourbon as he moved towards the door. Everyone was on edge, staring at it like it was there to kill them. Damon could feel all the eyes following him as he walked over to the door and pulled it open a crack. His famous half smirk on his lips as he looked around the wood at whomever had knocked, whilst hiding the inside of the house from view.
“Hel-” Damon stopped mid word, his glass shattering on the ground as he dropped it. Everyone was even more concerned, they’d never seen Damon stop mid-word, let alone drop his drink.
“Heya Love, I am looking for Rose-Marie, rumour has it she is with you?” Stefan froze, he knew that voice, would recognise it anywhere - but it couldn’t be, she was dead. He’d stood over her and Damon while his brother cradled her ashen body in his arms.
Rose started moving the second she heard the Original’s voice at the door, eyes scanning the room for the quickest exit. Barely standing still long enough to see Damon gently shoved back and the door forced open. The young auburn haired woman didn’t need to stretch far in order to press a kiss to Damon’s cheek before walking towards Rose with a smirk on her painted red lips. Heeled boots not making a sound on the carpeted floor, black jeans hugging her long legs, an intricately detailed singlet hidden beneath her jacket that wrapped around her small but muscular frame.
“There you are.” A blink and Rose had a hand wrapped around her throat, the other woman lifting her off of her feet with little care for the audience they had.
“Elijah promised me my freedom!” Rose gasped, hands clawing at the female's wrist, cutting through her leather jacket and leaving bloody lines that instantly healed as she tried to free herself.
“That was before you stole from me. I want it back.” She dropped Rose, watching her crumble in a heap at her feet, gasping for air, trying to buy herself time. Rose eventually stood, attempting to race out of the house, but the perfectly manicured and red painted fingernails digging into her shoulder stopped her from moving anywhere.
“Surely you would not be foolish enough to hide it in my own house now would you? So you and I are going to go on a little stroll, take me to where you have hidden it, and I shall keep my brother's word. Lie, or try to trick me in any way, shape, or form, and Niklaus will be the least of your worries. Understood?” Rose nodded, walking slowly towards the door the second the nails were out of her shoulder, putting some distance between herself and the older woman. She knew this family, better than most.
“Understood Eriana.” Another smirk pulled the woman's lips up as Rose dared to utter her name aloud, clearly trying to hint to those she was warning about who the woman was. Unfortunately, she hadn’t quite got around to talking about anyone other than Klaus and Elijah.
“Perfect.” She walked over to Stefan, ruffling her hands through his hair like she always had. “See you later little brother.” She whispered, but everyone heard it. Silently frozen in shock as they watched the woman look around the parlour, emerald eyes leaving nothing unseen.
“Remember what I said.” Rose warned the gathering of friends as a hand clamped down on her shoulder once more, forcing her to move towards the front door. No one made a move to help her. No one quite knew what to do, Damon was still frozen in the doorway, and Stefan was staring at her with wide eyes. The people they took their cues from were out of action.
“Telling tales about my family are we? Hope you told only the good ones.” Rose gulped nervously, wincing as the hand tightened on her shoulder, a silent threat not to lie to her.
“Only the truth,” Rose spat, glaring at the original despite the fear written all over her face..
“You are foolish if you think you know the truth about my family. You know we don’t let anyone know about us.” Eriana’s tone got darker as she shoved the woman out the door, pausing beside Damon to steal a quick kiss from his lips. He followed her subconsciously, eyes falling shut as he kissed her back.
“I will come back for you my love. I promise.” She whispered, pulling away and disappearing with Rose.
“What just happened?!” Caroline spoke first, as the door swung shut behind the two vampires, looking between Damon and Stefan as though they held all the answers. “She called you her brother! And I have no idea what she was talking about when it came to you!” Her hand shook as she pointed to her friend and then to her sire.
“Damon?” Stefan ignored her, rushing to his brother's side and wrapping an arm around him. He wasn’t used to seeing his brother so quiet, or in shock, the last time it happened was when they had watched her die. Damon didn’t speak a word for months before he just disappeared, reappearing years later and acting like she’d never existed at all.
“I’m dreaming.” Damon mumbled, stumbling slightly as Stefan led him back to the living room, pushing him until he sat down in an armchair, forcing another glass of bourbon into his hand as Alaric passed it to him.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” Alaric commented, concerned for the vampire he considered to be his close friend.
“Eriana was Damon’s wife, She died a long time ago.” Stefan finally answered, looking around at everyone as Damon’s gaze fixated on one point on the rug in front of the fireplace. His eyes were able to make out the faint stain that he hadn’t been able to get out no matter how much he scrubbed at it.
Alaric was the only one who heard the doorbell over the commotion that followed Stefan’s quiet words. Silently getting up to open it once more. He stood in the door frame, looking at the two men in shock. They seemed to be in their late 20’s to early 30s. One stood barely half a step ahead of the other, a subtle sign showing that he was the one in charge.
Alaric recognised the two men from the description Rose had given them less than an hour before. Niklaus was the closer male, his hands folded over each other and rested in front of his torso. He was trying to come across friendly, but the dark look in his bluish green eyes told him otherwise, especially with the way he was looking at him beneath dark blonde curls.
The other male, Elijah, was wearing a suit, one hand in the pants pocket, and the other dangling by his side. He seemed a lot calmer and friendlier than his brother. A soft smile on his lips that reached his brown eyes. The brunette was older than his brother, and it could be seen in the hard lines of his face.
“Hey Mate, we’re looking for Rose-Marie, have you seen her?” Alaric caught Klaus’ ‘famous’ British accent as Rose described it, a smile pulling at the vampires lips. Another attempt to put him at ease.
“Yeah, your sister just came by and collected her.” Alaric stepped outside and shut the door behind him so they couldn’t see inside anymore, protecting his friends from the people he was just told wanted to kill Elena.
“Rebekah did? Strange.” Elijah glanced to Klaus worriedly as he spoke, Klaus shared his brother's silent worries, looking back to Alaric. Alaric had no idea who Rebekah was, clearly there were more than just the three originals he had heard of so far. Rose really should have led with a break down of the family.
“No, Eriana.” He corrected the pair, keeping his hand firmly on the door, ready to bolt inside should he need to. If they didn’t know that Eriana had been the one to come by, what else was going on right now?
“Eriana was here?” Elijah repeated as Niklaus swore loudly. “Are the Salvatores okay? What did she do?” Elijah shoved past Alaric, opening the door and disappearing inside to look around, Klaus hot on his heels. Both brothers stopped to look around the room, silence falling as everyone noticed the newest arrivals.
“I apologise for our sister, she isn’t herself right now.” Elijah spoke first, walking around the couch to kneel beside Stefan and in front of Damon. “Did she hurt either of you?” Stefan shook his head,
“Or you Caroline?” Klaus added, eyes raking over the only other vampire in the room. They had no idea how either of the Original’s knew who everyone was, but they all shoved that thought aside. There were bigger things at stake now.
“She only went for Rose. What is going on?” Caroline demanded, taking charge of the situation and stepping in between Elena and the two Original Vampires. If Damon and Stefan were out of action, it was up to her to defend her friends.
“Rose stole something of significant emotional value. We told Eriana to stay at home while we retrieved it, apparently she didn’t listen and our siblings failed at keeping her contained within our house.” Elijah answered, looking past Damon to Klaus, a silent question in his eyes.
“We need to tell him.” Klaus spoke softly, watching his brother-in-law stare unblinkingly at the ground, ignoring everything going on around him.
“She will kill us if we do. You know she wanted us to stay away from him.” Elijah answered, standing and looking at all those gathered, those that were watching the intruding pair as though they were a movie on a big screen. This was a chance to learn more about them, and hopefully, figure out a way to survive this encounter.
“And if we are to have any chance of getting her back then we need him.” Klaus’ voice raised slightly as he argued, confusing everyone in the room apart from Elijah. Something else was going on, more than what Rose knew.
“Have you considered, brother, that she isn’t willing to return.” Everyone saw the pure rage that took over Klaus, moving further away, and closer to Elena should he try to take her from them now.
“I want to know.” Damon spoke for the first time since the vampiric woman had appeared on his doorstep. He moved to stand by the fireplace, able to see everyone in the room without needing to turn. Ice blue eyes observing and taking in everything. “I deserve to know. I held my wife as she died in my arms in this very room. What aren’t you telling me?” Klaus looked at the floor, refusing to meet Damon’s eyes at the words that fell from his lips.
“I needed her, I cared little for anything more than that. The only way to get her to help was for you both to believe she was dead. You never would have let her go otherwise. So I staked her when I knew you could see. Watched as you both held her, then I took her body away. Waited until she woke - she was furious, but she came around eventually. Understood that she had to do it to protect you both, she would have done anything for you.” Klaus lifted his gaze from the floor to look at the Salvatore brothers, ignoring their friends in the background.
“Once the first issue was dealt with she was free to return to you. She was nervous, of course, so Elijah and I came with her. We were going to explain everything, but we never made it to the door before she collapsed, saw visions of the future, what would happen here in Mystic Falls, How Elena would pull you both apart and toy with you like Katerina did, her betrayal. She decided she had to do everything in her power to stop it, dragged the whole family in, anything to protect you two. The Mikaelson motto, family comes first.” Klaus kept explaining, rambling, almost as though now he had started he didn’t know how to stop.
“She tried to come back years ago, we thought she had, it was the final part of the plan. Everything would finally be in order.” Elijah took over, “everyone would be safe. Klaus didn’t know that it all went wrong until Stefan stumbled into him in the twenties. We’ve been searching for her ever since, watching over the pair of you to make sure nothing happened.”
“Where was she?” Stefan asked, moving resting his hand on his brother's shoulder. Damon would need his support right now, his entire world had changed in moments.
“Katerina had her, she had found a hybrid strain of vervain that actually affected her. We finally found her recently, but we were too late to stop her from flipping the switch. We’ve been trying to convince her to switch it back on, but it's been months and nothing.” Elijah answered, looking over to Bonnie with a frown. “A Bennett? Brother did she-” Elijah turned to Klaus,
“Yes, in passing. We never saw any need to mention it further.” Klaus cut him off before he could say too much more. They had already said much more than they should have about their older sister.
“Visions?” Bonnie stepped up, pausing at Caroline's side to ask her question, trying to point holes in the story. Rose had just been warning them against the Originals, and now they were supposed to believe that one of them was Damon’s wife? A detail he hadn’t mentioned to anyone since his arrival.
“Our sister is a hybrid, like Niklaus, half witch half vampire.” Elijah answered simply, as if the matter was the most simple of facts.
“That’s impossible-” Bonnie spoke more to herself than anyone else. They all knew it, Bonnie had been warned that if she was ever turned she would lose her powers, it was why they all had to be cautious, so she could stay herself.
“Perhaps, but it is the truth, you sensed it when she arrived, as did Emily Bennet all those years ago.” Elijah cut her thoughts off quickly, he didn’t have time to explain the whole thing, and Eriana didn’t like the story being shared without her blessing.
“But Damon was obsessed with Katherine.” Elena spoke up, stepping forward so she could be seen around the group of people that had closed in to protect her. It made no sense, if he was married to an original vampire, why on earth would he have fallen for another woman, let alone be chasing her down now.
“He is, my brother has only ever loved two women, Eriana, and Katherine.” Stefan answered on his brother's behalf, glancing behind him at Elena, explaining further when he noticed the looks of confusion on his friends' faces. “The only compulsion Damon ever received from Katherine was to remove his memories of Eriana, she made him fall in love with her without ever needing more.”
“Brother, we should go find our sister and take her home.” Elijah quietly interrupted, looking around the group and realising they needed a moment to talk to each other. Time to talk about everything that had happened, everything they had just learnt. Damon especially needed some time alone, to sort out all the thoughts running through his head.
“The only vampires in Mystic Falls are in this room brother, unless you count Rose who is no doubt already deceased.” Klaus disagreed quickly, looking between the Salvatore brothers and Caroline, knowing the danger they were in. Not understanding what his older brother was hinting at.
“Niklaus.” Elijah moved to his brother, and led him from the house so that those who remained could talk in peace. They would be able to hear everything that was said regardless, but he knew they would crave the illusion of privacy.
“Damon?” Stefan turned to his own brother, hands resting on his shoulders.
“She’s alive.” The whisper fell from Damon’s lips too quietly for anyone else to hear. “She’s really alive.”
“Damon you heard them, if she’s flipped-” Stefan argued back, glancing at their friends. He knew the depth of his brother's feelings for the woman, but if she had turned off her humanity she would be more dangerous than they knew.
“Then I will make her flick it back. She’s my wife Stefan.” Damon insisted, knowing that he could do it, he could convince his wife that emotions were worth having. That their love was worth all the pain and hardship.
“She was your wife Damon.” Stefan reeled back as Damon’s fist connected with his jaw. The older Salvatore filled with rage at the bare mention that the red-head was no longer his.
“I for one, cannot wrap my head around the fact that you were married.” Caroline spoke up, stepping in between Stefan and Damon, hoping she could distract Damon and stop him from tearing his younger brother apart in anger. Alaric helped Stefan up, standing slightly ahead of him in case Damon tried again.
“Why didn’t you tell us?” Elena added, both realising what Caroline was trying to do, and unable to ignore her curiosity any longer. This information changed everything she thought she knew about her boyfriend's brother.
“What? That I was married? My wife died in my arms a hundred years ago? So I could live with the pity in your eyes every time you looked at me?” Damon walked to his liquor cabinet, picking up a bottle and drinking straight from it. “I don’t need your pity, or your sympathies, or whatever else would come from the truth.”
“Damon-” Elena tried to argue with him.
“Be honest Elena, you would have used it as an excuse every time I do something you don’t like. Forever justifying my actions as ‘because I miss my wife’. I’m not a good person Elena, and her memory doesn’t need to be tarnished by my actions after she was gone. ” He snapped at her,
“Elijah, Niklaus, what are you doing here?” Damon shushed everyone the second he heard his wife’s voice outside of his door, eavesdropping on what was going on.
“We came to collect Rose-Marie sister, deal with the problem like we said we would.” Elijah answered softly,
“I warned you to stay away from the Salvatores.” Damon put the bottle down, moving towards the door, and towards her.
“Eri-” Klaus started to speak, but a choked gasp cut him off.
“Stay away from my husband and brother Niklaus, I will not warn you again.” Damon opened the door in time to see his wife removing her blood soaked hand from Klaus’ ribcage, a smile on her face as she turned towards him with Rose-Marie cradled in her arms. Blood dripping from open bite wounds in the vampire’s neck and the unhealing cuts and burns that littered her body.
“Eriana-”
“Brought her back! Mostly in one piece.” Eriana pushed her way past him once more, carrying Rose-Marie back to the exact same spot she’d picked her up from earlier.
“Don’t-” Damon raced to catch Rose-Marie before she could touch his expensive rugs.
“Worried about her?” Eriana asked, the briefest flash of hurt in her eyes that only Damon saw.
“Worried about getting blood in these priceless persian rugs. I still remember the sixteen hours my wife forced me to spend in Egypt picking them out.” A smile tugged at her lips as Damon turned to Stefan, motioning with his head for his brother to take the injured woman away.
“It wasn’t that long-” She protested, leaning slightly closer to him. Damon wrapped his arms around her waist, tugging her into his chest, lips pressing against her head as his hands ran through her hair, trying to convince himself that the woman in his arms was the wife he’d held as she died.
“We were there longer than half the vendors Eri.” He chuckled into her hair, feeling her arms slowly wind their way around his waist, taking a deep breath in, as she anchored herself in his presence. They both ignored those that were watching them closely.
“I missed you Eri, so so much.” His words were little more than a breeze against the top of her head, but she heard them, stiffening in his arms before pulling back slightly. Damon didn’t give her the chance to respond, leaning down and brushing his lips past hers.
“Funny. That’s not what Katerina said.” She whispered between the kisses she allowed him to steal from her lips.
“She lies.” Damon replied, squeezing her waist as she took a step back, only to rest her head in his neck.
“Alright, that’s enough. Eriana we should be getting home.” Niklaus lifted Eriana over his shoulder as her fangs lightly scraped past Damon’s neck. Neither was given the chance to complain, Elijah stepping between the pair, his fingers pulling Damon’s attention to him. Eyes dilating as the Original made as though to compel him.
But Elijah’s arm was ripped away before he could say a word. Eriana standing between her husband and brother with his arm twisted behind his own back.
“Touch my husband again and I will rip off your arms, use them to rip out your heart, and force feed it to you, understood?” She snarled, Elijah nodded, glancing behind him at Klaus, who was staring wide eyed at their sisters' threat.
“I was merely going to make them forget sister, that is all.” He tried to explain himself as he tried to free his arm from her grip. She bared her fangs at him before releasing his arm with a smile. Elijah stumbling back towards Niklaus with a silent look of worry. Their sister had something planned if she wanted him to remember, and there was no way it would be good.
“No. I want him to remember.” Eriana turned, kissing Damon sweetly. “Remember the day he lost his wife.” She reached for his hand, pressing something into it and folding his fingers around the object.
“Eri-” She was gone before he could finish saying her name, her brothers vanishing along with her. Slowly he lifted his hand up, wondering if he could bear to see what he knew was in his hand.
“What is it?” Stefan asked, walking over to Damon’s side and standing beside him, curious as to what she had given him..
“Her ring I’d assume.” Damon replied quietly, still staring at his closed fist. He could feel the shape of the metal that cut into his hand as he squeezed slightly.
“Damon?” Elena stepped closer, folding her hands over his closed one, silently offering to get rid of it, so he never had to look and see what it was.
“No.” He pulled his hand back, putting it into his pocket before anyone could see what it was. He needed to do that when he was alone. “So what are we going to do about the Original thing?” He changed the topic, reminding everyone why they were gathered in his house to begin with. He needed time and space to think, to make everything make sense, and he couldn’t get that until everyone was gone. He wanted to make them leave immediately, but he knew they wouldn’t, not now, not until they had all made a plan.
“Damon-” Stefan started, Damon spun around to face him with a glare, his fist tightening at his side. This wasn’t the time.
“Drop it Stefan.” Stefan nodded slowly, tugging Elena back towards the couch to sit down next to him, everyone else following his lead, except Alaric, who simply moved to stand next to his friend with two glasses and a bottle. They really needed that drink now.
~~~~~~
Damon sighed, carrying a fresh bottle of bourbon into his room as everyone finally shuffled out of his house. His hand drifted to the ring in his pocket, weighing him down heavily. He’d given up on her after she’d been killed, mourning her death for what felt like a split second before he moved back to Katherine.
He knew why though, stumbling into the original family had been a blessing. He hadn’t known who they were, only that they could compel vampires. They could take away his pain and suffering, allow him to live. It hadn’t been a hard decision. What he hadn’t expected was for them to steal all his memories of her, leaving him with only the memory of his Katherine.
It had all hit him hard when she showed up at his door hours early, a simple command on her lips “remember”. Now all he felt was guilt, she knew what he had done, how could she not, it was her family he unknowingly begged to take his pain away. No doubt she had been right there, listening as he pleaded for them to take the burden off his shoulders.
Now she was punishing him for his choice hundreds of years ago, making him re-live the pain of holding her as she died. Tears leaked down his cheeks, remembering the feel of her ashen frame in her arms, cold to the touch as he cradled her close. Stefan’s heavy hand on his shoulder as he tried to pull Damon back, stop him from doing anything drastic.
Slowly he opened his hand, taking a deep breath to prepare himself to see the band he had given her on the day they wed. It wasn’t hers, his hand starting to shake as he recognised the platinum band as his own. The one he had cast into the Amazon, she must have found it, sent people to search every inch of the river until it was uncovered.
They both had matching platinum bands, with a line of lapis lazuli all the way around the middle of the band, having planned for it to double as a second daylight ring. Even taking the time to get their wedding date engraved on the inside of the bands. Damon ran his hands over it, remembering their Island wedding.
“Damon-” Stefan knocked on his door, pausing behind the closed wood. “You aren’t going to give up are you?”
“I gave up a long time ago Stefan.” Damon whispered, not lifting his gaze from the ring as his brother opened the door and walked into the room. “I’d heard of Vampires that could compel other vampires, and I couldn’t bear the pain I felt at losing her. It wasn’t a hard choice to make. I just wanted the pain to stop, but they took away everything.”
“So when I brought her up and you acted like you had no idea-” Stefan had tried to talk to him about Eriana a lot, but he hadn’t understood what he was on about. He’d ignored the talk of what he had assumed was a human they had known in their past.
“She gave them back to me when I answered the door.” Damon had no idea why he was being so open and honest with Stefan, this was the kind of stuff he kept close to the vest, that he hid on the inside and never let himself feel.
“Did you manage to catch what happened before she left?” Stefan changed the subject, seeming to realise his brother wasn’t prepared to keep talking about it.
“Rose stole something from her, so she came to get it back, terrified everyone while she did so. Her emotions are definitely off, but she paused long enough to say hello to me, calling me her brother. Then she kissed you and left, they demanded answers, all I said was that she was your wife, and she died a long time ago. You’ll probably have to explain it all more later but- I was worried about you.”
“I don’t know what to tell them. They can’t know I forgot. That I let my memories of her be stolen.” Stefan sighed, lifting his hand off of Damon’s shoulder and starting to walk toward the door. Damon didn’t want anyone to know what he had done, it made him weak, and that was the last thing he needed anyone to see him as. Some weak hearted fool who was in so much pain from the death of his wife that he begged to forget her. It wasn’t who he was, it wasn’t who he was going to be. He was Damon Salvatore damnit.
“Perhaps you should go and talk to her. Come up with a story you can both tell.” Stefan paused with his hand on the door handle, needing to return to Elena.
“What if she’s just here for Elena? Then she’s going to leave again? Leave me with my memories of how much I screwed up.” Damon knew he couldn’t handle that, not again. The temptation to take off his ring and go stand in the sunlight had been so strong the first time, and he only fought it for Stefan, she would never forgive him if he just abandoned his brother.
“Go talk to her Damon.” Stefan turned his face and smiled, he had seen first hand how much the couple loved each other. If Damon could save her from herself, she would be his for all eternity.
Damon was conflicted, he wasn’t sure if going looking for her was the right option. Eriana had her emotions off, he’d never seen her like that before. She had told him to never to do it, that nothing was worth losing the side of yourself that could truly feel. She was deadly, ruthless, but a part of him knew that her emotions weren’t totally off, she had cared enough about a stolen object to expose herself, steal a vampire from under his nose, and torture her for information. She promised to return for him, she had looked around the parlour longingly. There was vindictive revenge lacing every word when she said I was to remember her.
He wanted to ask about that, he thought there was little he didn’t know about his wife, but clearly he was wrong, and there was only one person who could help him. Damon took another deep sip of bourbon, before putting it on his bedside table and heading towards the basement.
Damon was lost in thought as he grabbed two blood bags, heating them up in mugs. He didn’t notice Elena trying to get his attention, nor Stefan leading her away and asking her to leave it alone.
It must have killed her, even if she did know her brother had taken his memories. Katherine had no doubt lorded it over her, telling grand tales of the lengths Damon had gone to save her, to get her back. She had been furious back in 1864, if it wasn’t for Katherine being in the tomb Eriana would have torn her limb from limb for what she did. Part of Damon had found it hot then, hearing Eriana declaring him as hers. A much larger part of him was terrified of the rage that radiated off her. The ferocity and jealousy that someone had dared hurt him. She would only be worse now, surely.
“Come in.” Rose startled Damon out of his thoughts, looking up to see he had finished his trip to the spare room she was using while she stayed here. “I take it you have a lot of questions.” Damon nudged the door open with his foot, on the bed Rose forced herself upright, leaning against the headboard and letting out a hiss of pain. Only a few of her wounds had healed over, her face was pale from the loss of blood, the sheets beneath her red rather than the cream they had started as.
“You aren’t healing.” Damon stated, walking over and handing her one of the two mugs, drinking from the other. He wondered if he should apologise for what Eriana had done to her.
“No, she wanted me to suffer. I’ll be fine by tomorrow.” Rose waved off his concern, taking a deep drink. “Well, until I’ve done what she needs me to, before she lifts the curse.” A shrug of one shoulder, the other too sore to move.  “I deserve it. I knew better than to take it, but I couldn’t resist.” There was a small smile on her lips, looking at him over her mug.
“What did you take?” Damon sat down on the bed beside her,
“A wedding band.” Rose stared at Damon, waiting for his reaction.  “I knew one of them were married, but not who, and not to whom. I thought that knowledge would cement my freedom.” Damon forced his features to remain passive, nodding and taking another sip of his drink.
“Instead it cost you.” Rose shrugged again, some of the colour coming back to her face.
“I’m alive, and I got my answers.” Rose’s eyes flickered to Damon’s left hand, trying to see anything that proved the ring she stole belonged there.
“There won’t be any sign, she died in 1916.” Damon moved his hand so she could see it clearer. “We married in 1870, I was already a vampire, can’t exactly get a tan anymore.” Damon let his hand fall onto the bed again with a sigh. Maybe if there had been a physical sign he wouldn’t have been able to forget her so easily.
“You probably know more about her than I do.” Rose chuckled, lifting the mug to her lips.
“She never told me she was an original, I thought she was just another vampire. I mean, aside from the hybrid witch part.” Damon was wondering if Stefan had a point, if he really knew the woman he had sworn to love until his dying day.
“They don’t like to tell people. It’s dangerous, especially because if one of them dies, everyone who was turned by their blood does too. Take out that family, wipe out all vampires on the earth. I’m sure it was to protect you, a young vampire has no place in the affairs of the original family.” Rose took another big gulp before sighing. “Neither does one my age.”
“If I wanted to find her,” Fear instantly appeared on Rose’s face, she was moving to rest her hand over Damon’s.
“Damon, I wouldn’t-” Her head shook, warning him off.
“She’s my wife Rose, I need to talk to her.” Damon needed to know why, needed help sorting out the swirling mess that was her thoughts and feelings.
“Are you sure she wants to see you?” Rose kept her voice soft, but her words angered Damon nevertheless, he pulled her hand out of his, standing. He would do this on his own if he had to.  “Alright fine. If the whole family is gathering, they’ll want a big house, at least six bedrooms, plus space for the staff they’ve kept through the ages. Probably a basement they’ll turn into a dungeon of sorts. Eriana loves a garden, and the others won’t want anything too close to other houses, probably somewhere remote, like here is, backing on to the forest. They won’t hesitate to take over another person's house if it suits them. Maybe you should head to the bar, see what gossip is around town. Mystic Falls is a small place, someone would have seen them.” Rose realized that Damon would do it, regardless of if she helped, so instead she sighed, telling him what she knew.
“Thanks Rose.” Damon held out a hand, offering to remove the mug, but Rose only clutched it closer to her chest.
“Damon? Be careful.” Her words followed him out of her room and back into the house.
If I Die Before I Wake: Chapter Two
Vengeance is defined as punishment or retribution for a wrong committed against another. A single curse could derail and weaken the most powerful being in the world. A single massacre could take the entire world in one go; but it could centuries to execute the perfect vengeance.
Chapter Two
Mystic Falls April 2010
The mansion was huge and falling to pieces. Yet, Klaus saw its potential. For the last hundred and forty five years, he had to live without Caroline. In order to feel as though she was still with him, he tried to see the world as she would have; a difficulty because he didn't have the light that she did. She would have looked at that run down home and took it on as a project. She would make it beautiful; commanding the reconstruction as though she was the captain of a ship. Klaus knew that he would make it their home for the short time after she was returned to him.
After he broke his curse in Spain and then murdered his father, Klaus built her an entire city to call their home. Perhaps one day they would return to New Orleans but Mystic Falls would have to due for a small while. Freya had collected massive amounts of information in the last century and he knew that Caroline would be weak at first and it would be best if she rested before taking her place as his queen. In truth, Klaus had not been king since he lost her and it would take him some time before he was able to let Caroline out of his sight before he could take on that responsibility right away.
So a mansion would due for a time. She would put her stamp on it and that brought a smile to Klaus's features. He could already see her now; commanding the compelled construction workers to make everything perfect. Caroline was nothing if not a perfectionist.
Making such plans in his mind, Klas needed to actually see her. He spent decades in New Orleans after he lost her, never really leaving her side; contacting every witch he knew but few were helpful. It wasn't until he massacred an entire coven in the heart of the French Quarter that he handed over the keys to the city to Marcel, along with the remainder of his daggered family and his wife, and fled with Freya in search of something; anything that would help him.
Since then he would only return once a year to have a glimpse of her.
Klaus passed the builders and architects and made his way to the basement of the house and saw the five coffins that lined the back wall. He completely bypassed his mothers' and touched the ones belonging to his siblings lightly. When he reached Caroline's, he opened the lid and gazed down at her perfect face. It wasn't gray or decayed; it was as perfect as it was the day he saw her at the summer festival in the small village over a thousand years ago. She looked as though she was sleeping but it was wrong. Caroline always had a small smile playing at her lips when in the deepest of slumbers. She would moaned and toss in her sleep. This perfect stillness was not the wife he slept beside for eight hundred years. Klaus leaned down and kissed her forehead, saving the scent of her.
“Soon Sweetheart. Soon I will have you back in my arms.” He inhaled her scent again and listened as the stairs creaked behind him. He pulled backed and touched her head one last time before closing the coffin. “Hello Elijah.”
“Niklaus.” The older of the two replied. Klaus turned and saw his brother standing at the base of the stairs. He looked impeccable, in a fresh cut suit and nothing out of place. Klaus wasn't surprised. His brother always had a taste for best of fashion. “I see the rest of the family is in-tacked and I am pleased to see that you have not driven a white oak stake through Kol's heart.”
“Do not mention his name to me.” Klaus hissed.
“Nine decades and you still hold it against him.”
“How would you know, you abandoned me when I put the dagger in his heart.” Elijah just shook his head. “He would have woken her with those objects that coven was collecting. He would have brought her back but it wouldn't have been her Elijah; just some demon wearing her face.” He remembered hearing that there might have been a way for Caroline to wake from her slumber but when Freya explained the consequences to Elijah, Klaus set out to stop his brother from putting out Caroline's light completely.
“You were loosing your touch with humanity Klaus. We wanted nothing more to bring Caroline back in order to fix our family. He was wrong to go about it in such a manner but we were desperate.” Elijah looked at his younger brother and saw the same torment that plagued him since that fateful day in 1864 when Caroline crumbled, blood spewing from her lips as she fell into a never ending sleep. “I never really left you Niklaus. Who do you think helped Freya when she had a lead? Who stood by her side hunting down answers when you couldn't?”
Klaus looked down at the ground and gripped the wood of the coffin. Elijah stepped forward and placed a hand on his shoulder. He knew the torment that Klaus was feeling. He listened to Freya's every word when she told him how erratic Klaus had become. Then in the 1950s, his brother fell off the face of the earth completely, going into seclusion with only Freya and Marcel having access to him.
“We are almost there. The last piece of the puzzle is here in Mystic Falls. We will collect her and come the full moon, everything will be as it should be. Caroline will be awake and the two of you will be as you always have been.” Klaus looked at his brother in the eye and Elijah could see tears in them. He remembered the howls of agony Klaus had screamed for weeks and months on end when Caroline first fell.
“All I want is Caroline. What do you want?”
“I want my family reunited Niklaus. I want what we had in New Orleans before this mess landed on our doorstep. I want Rebekah to find love again. Kol to be well, Kol.” Elijah signed. “And I want to see that look in your eyes every time Caroline steps into a room. I want to hear her laughter ring through our home as she scolds you for something you have done.” That made Klaus smile. Caroline was never one to hold back her thoughts and she was the only one who could get away with it. As quickly as the smile came, it vanished.
“Fine.” Klaus stalked away from him and opened Rebekah's coffin. He grabbed the dagger and pulled it out of her chest. “Time to wake up little sister.” He looked at Elijah and handed him the dagger. “Tell her I'm sorry. Tell her that I will make it right.” He looked at the other two coffins. “Wake Kol but tell him I'm still furious with him. Bloody hell, wake Finn too if you must.”
*
Damon was pissed. Furious. He had not felt anger like this in a very long time. What could she have possibly been thinking? Going to see Katherine? When Stefan realized that she was gone and that Bonnie was missing as well, they went into a frenzy. Had Klaus come to town and snatched her under their noses? When they flashed through the town and into the woods, finding Bonnie alone by the tomb, Damon realized that Elena was stupid enough to go down there alone searching for answers.
“She could have killed you and she would have for shits and giggles!” Damon hissed at her as he slammed the door of his chevy camaro. Elena narrowed her eyes and ran her hands through her long brown hair in frustration. She followed him out of the car, not noticing if Stefan and Bonnie got out as well. Damon has been furious since they found Bonnie and herself. Stefan ran to her side, checking to see if she was well but it was Damon's furious blue eyes that she saw. Elena couldn't explain it but Damon's fury, infuriated her with equal measure. While she loved Stefan with her entire heart, there was something about Damon that lit her veins on fire.
“I needed answers Damon. We have found nothing on Klaus other than whispers. There are vampires out there that believe he is nothing more than a legend!” Elena yelled back. “If he is coming after me I want to know why! Katherine is the only person we know who has met him! She knows why he is coming to Mystic Falls and I think she was about to tell me what he wants with me before you rudely pulled me out of the tomb!”
“It doesn't matter why he wants you! The only thing that matters is that he is not going to get to you! At least he won't if you stay under our protection!” Damon practically yelled. “Whatever Katherine did to piss off the oldest vampire in all creation is something she can pay for; you're not paying for her sins Elena!”
“Damon.” Stefan tried to cut in but Elena cut him off completely.
“She said I was the doppelganger! I don't know what that means but he tried to drain her of her blood in order to break some curse! He did it again in 1702! He has a pattern and now he is coming for someone who looks like me!”
“Well if you would listen to me maybe he won't even get near you!”
“Damon.”
“He wants to get his wife back!”
“Damon”
“I don't care what he wants!”
“Damon!”
“What!” Damon snapped and looked at Stefan. The younger Salvator brother just pointed to the boarding house and Damon's eyes widened. Something was off and they could sense that someone was inside. Someone they didn't know. Damon flashed to stand in front of Elena. “Do not leave my side.” Elena nodded but grabbed Stefan's hand.
Slowly, all four of them approached the front door. Both Stefan and Damon where shielding Elena while they left Bonnie completely unguarded. Damon pushed the door open and reviled the living room and the big fireplace on the other end. Once they entered the boarding house, they noticed that there was a man seated in one of he leather chairs in front of the fire place. His legs were stretched out and a glass of bourbon in his hand. Beside him stood a tall blonde woman with short blond hair.
“It is rather reckless to leave a vampire's home open. Word of advice; put the title into a human's name.” The woman spoke gently and they all could tell that, despite the massive power that radiated from her, she wasn't a vampire. The man who took one last sip of bourbon before tossing it into the fire, was; and an extremely old one at that. Damon thought of the feeling he had when he met Rose and realized that she had been an infant compared the man before them.
“And it is rather rude to keep guest waiting.” The man stated and stood. He was tall but not overbearingly so. His blonde hair was kept short and he wore a dark Henley paired with an expensive pair of jeans. Silver chains hung from his neck and a devilish smirk haunted his lips.
“It is when you're expecting them.” Stefan replied and that smirk on the other man's lips grew wide. He seemed amused and that nerved the rest of them. “You, we were not expecting.”
“Rippah!” Both Damon and Stefan froze. It was clear that they had not expected for anyone else to be aware of that part of Stefan's personality. He had been not fallen from the band wagon in decades and most of the people who knew that side of him were dead. “I apologize. I supposed I should introduce myself. The name is Klaus.” While none of them were surprised at this news, their eyes widened slightly. “Ah, you've heard of me. Fantastic.”
“Niklaus.” He turned to the blonde woman whose arms were crossed. She smirked at him and raised her eyebrow in question.
“My apologizes. Let me introduce my sister Freya.” Freya moved towards Klaus, her spiked heeled boots hit the hardwood floor. Standing side by side, the rest could see the familiar resemblance. “Now that the pleasantries are out of the way, I believe I will take what I came for. Step aside boys if you please.” Neither Damon nor Stefan were willing to back down and simply let Klaus take Elena. They both flashed towards the intruders but neither made it. Freya didn't even flick her wrist and both vampires went flying towards opposite walls; their bodies being pinned against the wood. Neither could move and Freya made it appear effortless. “Ah, yes. I wouldn't get in her way. My sister is a powerful witch and don't let that flawless skin fool you, she is a millennia old.”
The smirk returned and Klaus stepped forward, making his way towards the remaining girls. His movements were predatory and stalking. Both Damon and Stefan struggled against their invisible bonds; neither succeeded in breaking free. Elena's heartbeat increased, her blood pounding through her veins as Klaus got closer. She couldn't help but take a few steps back, almost stumbling as she went. Klaus got closer and closer, the manic smirk playing at his lips. He was only steps away. Closer and closer....
And he completely bypassed Elena.
Klaus didn't spare her a glance. Instead he stood directly in front of Bonnie and gazed down at her.
“You have no idea how long I've searched for you little witch. I need you to cast a little spell for me.”
*
New Orleans December 1914
Freya's heart beat rapidly in her chest. Her breathing was heavy and her eyes flickered around the abandoned building as she laid on the floor. Her palms were flat against the ground and her back arched to see the three men now glaring down at her. Bodies littered the floor and in the center of the now dead coven was the brother who found her. The brother whose face she first saw when she awoke nearly a year prior.
Kol laid in the center as his skin turned gray and a dagger stuck in his chest. She told him that it wouldn't work; that dark magic was not the way to break the spell. Yet, he didn't trust her and was going to trust the coven he played around with. Kol loved witches and it was for that reason Klaus pulled that dagger from his chest in the first place. He needed a witch and Kol knew the most about them; but now he was going to do something that would ruin everything. Freya wanted one thing, a family and Kol was getting impatient. He was about to do something that would be irreversible. If Freya had not run to Elijah, completely aware that he had no idea of who she really was, everything would have been lost.
Now she looked up to Klaus, whose long black coat was covered in blood, Elijah and Marcel. The two latter ones seemed uneasy but Klaus's extreme violence and complete massacre of the only coven who seemed to be willing to help him. Klaus bent down in order to be eye level with her. He reached out and took Freya's neck into his hand and slammed her into the wall behind her. He pressed himself against her, smearing blood on her white lace dress, and whispered in her ear.
“Now tell me why I just slaughtered the coven who was close to waking my wife on the mere word of a witch I've never met?” His tone was deadly and Freya could see his eyes turning yellow. She had heard stories of the wolf that lived beneath his skin and now she was mere inches from his teeth. “Leave nothing out.”
“Kol wanted to use dark magic to rise Caroline. He needed special objects; dark objects. Objects that were cursed.” Klaus's gripped tightened. “Using those objects may have awoken her but it wouldn't have been her, not really. It would have been something else wearing her face. Your wife would have been completely gone.”
“Kol wouldn't do that. Caroline was like a sister to him.”
“The coven thought they could change the formula for the spell. Similar to how your mother did when she changed Qetsiyah's immortality spell when she turned you into vampires.” A brief look of confusion crossed his face, never having heard the ancient greek name before. “Another spell. Another story. Kol was obsessed with it. He thought he could guide the witches into tampering with the sleeping spell put on Caroline.”
“Would it have worked?”
“No.” Klaus dropped her and Freya gripped her neck; coughing. Klaus flashed towards Elijah and Marcel. The three conversed, as though they were deciding her fate. She couldn't help but look at the dead bodies of the witches who hid her; who saved her even if it was only temporary. Freya moved to stand, bracing herself against the wall as Klaus looked at her again. If Klaus was going to kill her, at least this death would be better than the fate that awaited her elsewhere. “I can help you.”
“And how may that be?”
“I'm an expert in sleeping spells; having been the victim of one.” This peaked, not only Klaus's interest but Elijah's as well. “I was raised by my aunt Dahlia. A very powerful witch. She became obsessed with immortality when.....it doesn't matter. She found a way to grow our power but it requires us to sleep for a hundred year and only one year awake.”
“Can you wake Caroline?” His voice was fragile and she could see the wheels turning in his head. Could he stand to only have one year with her while she slept for a hundred? It would be better than the current misery he had now and better than some fake monster wearing her skin; but it wasn't the eternity he promised her as they ran from Mikael.
“No.” She saw the fury cross his face. It looked as though he was about to strike. “But I know who can. The spell, I've glanced at it in the grimoire of the witch who casted it. The spell was very specific. The only way for it to be broken, truly broken and for Caroline to rise would be for the witch who cast the spell or a daughter of her bloodline to undo the spell.”
“So I need a descendant of Emily Bennett's?”
“Yes. I can help you find her but I'm running out of time.” Klaus looked at her curiously. “The coven was hiding me and studying me. Kol found the coffin I rested in. Stole me away while Dahlia slumbered. He thought he could use me to wake Caroline. However, my year is almost up and Dahlia will find me to curse me back to sleep with her.”
“Not seeing how that is my problem.”
“Niklaus.” Elijah warned. Klaus rolled his eyes and waived for Freya to continue.
“If you want my help. If you want my knowledge on sleeping spells and how to break them, I am going need more than two weeks time. The only way to break my curse is to kill the one who casted it.” Klaus was about to jump in and call her a liar but Elijah stopped him with a warning look. “I know what you're thinking, Emily Bennett is dead but spell upon Caroline still holds. Dahlia uses connective magic. Meaning, any spells she casts break with her death. The Bennetts all draw their magic from their ancestors dead or alive, much like the witches here in New Orleans. Emily may have died but her spell would hold strong unless there was a witch to break it.”
“Perhaps I should track down the entire line of Bennetts and kill them all. No bloodline, no magic. Although, I have tried to find the last of the Bennetts and they are well hidden. Another little trick of Emily's and the doppelgangers is suppose.” Klaus hissed. It was only months after he lost Caroline that he discovered who cast the spell and who was behind it. Yet, it was as though all the Bennetts vanished. The ones in Salem burned and it appeared the rest just...never existed. Someone was hiding them from him and he was furious that he never thought more on it.
“You could but do you want to risk that? Do want to risk killing them all and having none left to wake her?” She had him and she knew it. Marcel stepped forward and placed a white gloved hand on Klaus's shoulder. He whispered something, causing Klaus to nod.
“If I kill this Dahlia, you'll spend the years you were meant to be asleep, helping me find the witch and anything else needed to wake her.” Freya nodded, giving her vow. “Very well then. It appears I have some witch hunting to do and two weeks to do it.” He looked at her again, as though he was really seeing her for the first time. “Who are you?”
“Freya. Freya Mikaelson.”
Mystic Falls April 2010
“I'm not doing any spells for you.” Bonnie hissed. Her eyes narrowed and her fist balled; nails digging into the palm of her hand. She tried to cause the vessels in his brain to pop, over and over again just like she had done to Damon at least a hundred times. Yet, it appeared as though it didn't work on him or the pain just didn't faze him. Bonnie supposed it was the other witch blocking her spells. “You have your own witch. Have her do it.”
“Now, now, don't be hasty. Your ancestor, Emily cast a spell and it appears only someone of her bloodline can undo. Which is why I need you.” Klaus stated in a matter of fact tone. To him the choice was obvious. “I need you to wake Caroline from her slumber and all will be right with the world.”
“I refuse to wake a murderous vampire, especially if she was your wife.” Klaus smirked at her. It was unnerving and caused Bonnie to panic. There was mania behind those ancient eyes and she saw the shift of something inside of him. Bonnie wished she asked more about the curse that Elena stated he broke in the 1700s. He wasn't just the average vampire. He was something more. Something more terrifying than she had every seen.
“Looks like someone has done their homework. Yes, Caroline is my wife and my entire reason for existing. And if you think she is murderous, she is, but trust me, my sweet little witch, when I tell you that she is the one who tamed me. Caroline's worst days are my best.” Klaus leaned in and whispered to her. “I am the demon monsters have nightmares of.”
Suddenly he was away from her and both Damon and Stefan screamed. Klaus had Elena in his arms. His eyes changed completely and his fangs bared out. He savagely bit into Elena's neck, ripping and tearing. She screamed, the pain was excruciating. Bonnie tried to lunge forward but an invisible barrier prevented her from reaching them. She glanced at Freya who seemed to have not moved at all yet Bonnie could feel her magic beating against her. Soon, Klaus dropped, a still alive but injured Elena to the ground.
“Doppelganger blood. Taste the same as the rest of them.” Klaus's lips and chin were covered in blood. The blood ran down his chin and to his neck. He smiled and Bonnie could see that his teeth were covered in the same red liquid that was seeping from Elena's neck. “Let me tell you witch how this will go. Refuse to help me, I kill your friend. I will slaughter her and drain her of her blood just like I had with her ancestor. Then I will bite both of those vampires hanging on the wall and have you watch as they die a slow, hallucinating death from my wolf's venom. But you, you have the worst punishment of all.”
“And what would that be?”
“Well once all your friends are dead, I will naturally slaughter what is left of your family. I then will hold you until you break down and undo the spell. If you try to run, I will hunt you down just like I spent the last five hundred years seeking Katerina. Ask her for tips and advice on what a life on the run from me is like. If you continue to be stubborn, I will find someone to take you over and over again until you bare a child. A child that I would raise as my own for the soul purpose of waking my wife.”
“You really are a monster.” Bonnie whispered out, horrified. She had thought that Damon was evil but he was nothing compared to what stood in front of her. He was child's play and she wanted nothing more than to go back to the days when they were scared of the vampires hidden away in that tomb. She would rather have a picnic with Katherine than spend another second with Klaus.
“I'm the original monster. Do we have a deal?” Bonnie nodded. “Perfect! Freya is going to stay behind. She has Emily's old grimoire, I'm sure you will find it fascinating. She will teach you everything you need to know about the spell. When does it need to be preformed?”
“At the full moon.” Freya replied in an almost bored tone. “Five days.”
“Splendid. I do hope you're a fast study.” Klaus turned to his sister. “Freya, please drop Salvator the younger please, I need a sign of good faith.” Freya did just that and Stefan crashed to the floor. Klaus took him by the shoulders and peered deeply into his eyes. “Remember me.” Stefan staggered backwards and slid down the wall; a thousand memories rushing back to him at once. Damon cried out, wondering what Klaus had done. If he didn't believe his eyes, he would say that his brother had been compelled, but that wasn't possible, was it? “Now, leverage.” He bent down to Elena and picked her off the floor; throwing her over his shoulder. “I'll be keeping this one. You know, to keep you in line.”
Klaus was out the door before anyone could say anything at all...and Elena was gone.
Day 6: confusion / spark / veins
Day 6 for @augustofwhump.
A return to A small break, the Original/Dollhouse Xover - Elijah became a Doll to escape dealing with his family, it doesn't go as expected but Elijah pleased with a break.
Warnings for things normally found within Dollhouse.
Spoilers for the character of Alpha.
----
Uniform was returning from his shower, he liked being clean, when he noticed Alpha was coming towards him and he smiled at him.
He liked Alpha, the him in his head and his new handler, Mrs Finnley, had noticed and warned him to be more careful about showing it but Alpha reminded him of someone but nicer, they had both gone quiet when he told them that so he guessed they knew who he was reminded of.
Neither told him who, the him in his head was hot, like flushed cheeks but quiet, while Mrs Finnley was just sad.
His smile flickered as he noticed when he got closer to Alpha that he was dirty, before he could ask if Alpha was going for a wash, Alpha’s arm moved so fast.
The other in his head was suddenly paying attention, Uniform could feel him but he was distracted by the hurt- stringing at his throat.
He grasped, a metal taste filling his mouth as his hand went to his throat and started getting wet, warm sticky liquid slipping through his fingers.
A hand settled on the top of his head as he swayed.
“I couldn't leave you here, little brother.” Alpha told him, smiling warmly as Uniform fell.
Uniform didn't understand.
He was confused.
His vision dimed and he was scared.
He didn't understand.
He was dead before his body hit the floor.
----
Elijah woke up as his body revived, slit throat healing leaving him hungry from the loss of blood and the smell of it surrounded him.
It seemed the alterations he had allowed them to make to his mind hadn’t completely removed that but at least it wasn’t an unfounded hunger now as it had been before.
He took a moment to check on Uniform, finding the door in his mind that housed the “doll’ personality closed but he could feel the persona behind it, full of confusion and fear but as close to sleeping they could get in the mind, as it always was when he wasn’t in control.
Elijah was the only one always awake and aware since he was the original.
He grimaced at the tacky feeling of his blood soaked shirt sticking to his skin  as he pushed himself up, the formally white fabric now red.
It had been a neat precise cut as he traced the now healed wound.
One that spoke of experience and a practised hand.
He took a breath to push away the remains of Uniform dying terror, it was almost identical to his feelings during his first death and his disbelief that father would truly kill them all, he wouldn’t let this scar Uniform the way that had him.
This whole experience was a break for him, an escape from his duties as an older brother, he couldn’t be expected to hunt and deal with Niklaus if he wasn’t in control, but Uniform was a marvel, a bonus and he wasn’t willing to let anyone else interrupt and ruin it.
Sage’s inclusion was an annoyance but one he was stuck dealing with, if she was willing to stand by as his handler, for the off chance he was bait and could lure Niklaus near enough while giving her leverage to gain information about Finn’s whereabouts she was free to.
Truly it wasn’t that different from the hundreds of humans using his body for their own gain, not that he would say it like that to her. It was clear even though Uniform’s and his other imprint’s views that Sage disapproved of how he had decided to use his immortality now.
For the first ten years of his escape, it had been almost boring; he had been Loki at the first house, then Odysseus when he had moved to the DC House, the body kept asleep unless it was used for an engagement or a health check.
Truly treated like a doll but they kept their word of the contact and ensured he was healthy and kept hidden.
Even if Niklaus decided to look for him, to complete his collection of daggered and lost siblings he wouldn’t find him nor could father, Elijah had removed himself.
At first the imprints had been flat hollow copies of an idea of a person but Elijah had noticed the technology change and grow and with it the depth of the personalities had grown into full people with want and desires of their own.
While it meant the treatments, the imprinting progress started lasting far longer and that was excruciating for Elijah awake through it, he could take it and accept it as a punishment for his failures.
Which he had much time to dwell on as his body had slept.
But things have changed when he was moved to the LA House, Adele was a fascinating case as the first head of the three houses he had been part of, who had seen him as a person. While the other two could pretend during their brief interview, Elijah had been alive a long time that seeing past their manners and words was insultingly easy, since they couldn’t quiet hide the way they looked at him and saw how much money they could make from him.
She had instead asked about him and what he wanted from his time at her house despite it being all in his contact already, she had clearly been a concerned when she noticed the first date of his contact.
Which was a fair concern given he still looked the age he died the first time, twenty-four, and by that date it would seen he had been serving as a doll for ten years and since he was fourteen, he had reassured her that he looked younger than he was, not a lie so his amused smile had been honest, and given that to her he had was meant to have been aware of the pasting of time and he didn’t act anything like a supposed fourteen year old she had accepted his word.
After that she had insisted on showing him around the house, where his body would be cared for while in their hands she told him and then she had surprised him by actually showing him around what could be described as a Spa retreat and informing him that instead of his body mostly being kept on standby like the past houses had, a blank personality would be created to live their while not on any engagements.
Others may have met the few other dolls there, seen it as his future and been unnerved, Elijah had been interested, if slightly unbelieving.
So he had been even more surprised to realise they meant it, and that it wasn’t a façade when after the treatment, the new doll, Uniform, had been let to wander the place.
He had been slightly hesitant at the name, less like the past two but he quickly grew used to it and watched the sheer open awe Uniform viewed the world with.
Uniform was innocent in every way of the word, someone who couldn’t understand why or how to hurt someone let alone do it.
Uniform wasn’t just human but also the very opposite of the monster he was.
It was refreshing to feel the world through his view.
It was why he was planning to extend his stay in this house past the arranged five years once his contract came up, the last two house he had been moved on in part, to avoid anyone noticing his lack of ageing at all or someone from his past recognizing him.
The latter had become unnecessary since Tristan had discovered him as Odysseus in DC and followed him to LA as a customer every few months he could free himself from his Strix plotting and Sage had found him.
This may have been started as an escape but he had found he enjoyed watching Uniform live and exist more than anything else, it was peaceful.
So Uniform feeling fear, pain and just any sort of upset, was quickly becoming his greatest annoyance. He dealt with those feelings outside the house during engagement, that was what they were for but not here.
He took a breath to calm himself, if he was human he would be dead and given the amount of blood in the air others were.
“I couldn't leave you here, little brother.”
Alpha had killed Uniform out of sentimentality, attachment, and Elijah had known Alpha was more than a normal doll; he had recognized a difference between Elijah and Uniform the last time he had been awake.
He had ignored it because it wasn’t his problem and he had been dealing with his former handler.
Uniform was going to be sad by the changes this would bring, he was going to miss Alpha and Elijah was not going to deal with the fact Uniform had somehow unknowingly been comparing him to Finn.
At least that made it very clear that Uniform had no memory of his engagements, since he had shared a few with Alpha and they had very few moments that could be called brotherly during them.
Still he was curious about what had made Alpha go so far, it would seem he’d need to have another talk with Adele, as joy since he enjoyed the woman so much even if it was less than pleasing to be doing so soon after the last time.
But she would be busy for a while and he needed a change of clothes, it would be rude to turn up blood stained when she would likely be sick of the sight of it soon. So he slipped through one of the doors Uniform didn’t see, an interesting bit of programming and made his way to the wardrobing rooms.
It had been a while since he had picked a suit of his own.
Quite The Assumption
Pairing: Klaus x Reader x Kol
Warnings: None
Word Count: 1620
The weather is absolutely perfect outside as you’re reading a book, sitting just outside a cafe here in Mystic Falls. You took a sip of your coffee before placing it back on the small table, allowing yourself to get lost in this novel.
A moment later, a shadow casts over you briefly and you notice a figure take a seat just ahead of you. You glanced up, learning that it’s Klaus and your stomach stirs with excitement but on the outside you remained calm and collected.
“Hello love.” He said, smirking.
“Hi Klaus. What’s up?”
“I just so happened to be in the area and noticed you here all alone. I also wanted to say that I enjoyed our little date the other night.”
“I did too.” You flashed a soft smile, placing a bookmark at the page you left off at before closing the book. You’ve only gone on two dates with Klaus so far and both were amazing. The hybrid has definitely grown on you.
“Do you have any plans tonight?” Klaus asked.
“I’m not sure. I have to check my calendar in a sec.” You lied. You know that you have nothing planned tonight. “Why?”
“I am throwing a soirée at my mansion tonight. You are more than welcome to come.”
“Oh okay. What time does it start?”
“An invitation with details will arrive at your doorstep later.” He reached across the table for your hand, placing a gentle kiss over your knuckles before rising to his feet to disappear along the street.
You smiled from ear to ear at his gesture, unable to focus back to your book. There’s no doubt that you’ll join his party tonight.
(Later…)
It is a quarter past 8. You followed the details of the invitation and dressed semi-formal with a black body con off the shoulder dress that stops at your knees. You paired it with a pair of strappy black heels.
After one quick glance at your rear view mirror, assuring your makeup is still on point, you took your keys out of the ignition and hopped out of your car.
Stepping inside Klaus’s mansion, a waiter was quick to hand you a glass of champagne. The gesture alone instantly felt like deja vu from when you attended the Mikaelson ball not too long ago. You accepted the bubbly and went on your way to search for Klaus.
Through the crowd of people, you still couldn’t find him but happened to bump into Kol. You were slightly relieved to finally see a familiar face.
“Hello darling.” Kol greeted. “Pleasure seeing you here. Let me guess, you’re looking for Nik?”
“You read my mind Kol. Do you know where he is?”
“I do not. But I can keep you company in the meantime.”
Sure thanks.” You clinked your glass with Kol’s, followed by taking a generous sip. “What is this party for anyways?”
“My brother didn’t get into the specifics with me. However, I enjoy a good party.”
Glancing around at the guests, you randomly made eye contact with Rebekah, who is conversing with someone you don’t know. She winks at you and you raise your glass to her as a greeting.
“Klaus sure knows how to throw a great party.” You mentioned.
“Silly me. I forgot to mention how stunning you look in that little black dress.” Kol commented. You fought the urge to blush from his compliment.
“Thank you.”
“And you bought it specifically for this party?”
“Actually no. It’s been sitting in my closet for awhile now. I’ve never found the proper occasion to wear it until now.”
“You should wear it again.”
You let out a chuckle, swallowing down the last bit of champagne. “You're funny. It’s not like I go to these kinds of parties often.”
“What I meant is, you should wear it on our next date.”
“Kol stop.” You nagged as you glanced around nervously, hoping Klaus isn’t in earshot.
“I’m serious, darling.” Kol said.
“You know that I’m kind of seeing your brother.” You rolled your eyes. A waiter came by, stealing your empty glass from you.
“And I kind of don’t care.” He challenged.
“You’re ridiculous.” You shook your head in amusement before walking off to search for Klaus again.
Finally, you see Klaus at the top of the staircase with the back of his head facing the crowd below. You notice that he’s lost in a conversation with a red headed female and you didn’t want to be rude by catcalling his name, so you slowly made your way towards the stairs. You couldn’t get over how handsome he looked in a suit and tie since he’s always dressed in a Henley shirt and jeans.
As you reached the second step, you noticed Klaus and his female acquaintance exchanging laughs. Next thing you know, she playfully hits him in the chest and that same hand found its way on his chest. You didn’t think anything of it until you noticed that Klaus allowed her hand to linger there.
You annoyingly felt a pang of jealousy and turned on your heel back to the first floor. A part of you hoped Klaus would have at least called or texted you asking of your whereabouts since you haven’t spoken to him since earlier this afternoon in front of the cafe.
“So Y/N, how about that date?” Kol said, suddenly appearing at your side.
“How about a drink first.” You marched towards the nearest waiter and stole a filled glass from the tray, taking a large sip of champagne.
“You see, my brother isn’t right for you. Bad temper, enemies around the world, and not as handsome as me.”
You couldn’t tell if you’re already buzzed from the alcohol or if Kol is downright funny right now. “You’re hilarious.” You chuckled, leaning your back against the nearest wall.
“I forgot to add, not as funny as me either.” Kol stepped forward, placing him palm beside your ear on the wall as he towered over you.
“Okay okay.” You put a hand up in defense. “Enough with all of the comparisons. I get it, you’re conceited.”
“You’re pretty and you have a sharp tongue.” Kol leaned down, whispering into your ear, sending a shiver down your spine. “You’re just my type.”
Before you had the chance to respond, you were rudely interrupted. “What the bloody hell is this?” Klaus asked with obvious distaste.
Kol grinned, pleased that he got a rise out of his older brother. He straightened his posture and snaked his arm around your waist.
“Oh hey Nik. I was just showing Y/N which Mikaelson is best suited for her.”
Instead of vamp speeding, Klaus took heavy steps towards his younger brother, holding him by the throat and slamming his back against the wall. He’s raging with so much fury that he didn’t care that all eyes are on him. “You just couldn’t help yourself, now could you, brother?! You’re so pathetic that you had to resort to compelling my date!” Klaus’s hand was so tight around Kol’s throat that he couldn’t breathe out a word.
“Klaus stop it!” You shouted.
“Niklaus.” Elijah announced, attempting to put his brother is check. His hand was placed inside his front pocket, standing beside you.
“Kol didn’t compel me!”
Klaus looked over his shoulder, eyes boring into yours. “What?” He let out in a loud whisper in disbelief, loosening his grip over Kol’s throat.
“Nik, what the bloody hell are you doing?” Rebekah asked, brows furrowed. Her heels tapped along the flooring as she made her way towards the scene.
You shot him a glare before storming off outside, not caring that you’re shoving into people along the way.
“Don’t point fingers at me, Nik.” Kol implied after catching his breath. “Go ask Y/N yourself why she’s cross with you and chose my company instead.”
Klaus followed after you without a response, ignoring the remarks that the party guests are exchanging with each other about what just happened.
The cool breeze hit him in the face. “Y/N, stop.”
“No I’m going home. It was stupid for me to come to this party.” You continued to walk towards your car with your keys in your hand. In the blink of an eye, you found Klaus in front of your driver’s door.
“Tell me, what did Kol say to you?”
“Why does it even matter?” You used all of your strength to shove him away so you can have access inside your car, but he’s got a thousand years on you and you couldn’t shift him. “Why don’t you go back inside and flirt with that red head some more.” You folded your arms across your chest, scowling at him in defeat.
Tumblr media
“You can’t be serious, love.” He said with hint of amusement, which annoyed you even more because he is so goddamn handsome.
“Leave me alone. And don’t call me love.” You spat, advancing around your car to the passenger side, hoping you can get to your drivers seat from there. But, Klaus beat you to it with his vamp speed. His fingers lightly grasped your upper arms, holding you in place with your back against your passenger side door.
“I was not flirting with anyone. I only fancy you.” You rolled your eyes at his response. “In case you’re wondering, she’s a witch. I was only playing nice to be on her good side.”
“Fine I believe you. But playing nice doesn’t mean it’s okay for her to have her hands all over you!” You shook off Klaus’s grip and made your way back to the mansion.
Klaus snickered, following behind you. “And I thought I was the one with the temper.”
Christmas Wishes +18
Tumblr media
Author: eternityunicorn
Genre: Romance/Tragedy/AU
Pairing: Elijah Mikaelson x Camille O’Connell
Warnings: Smut
Summary: AU Set in Season 3 - Elijah Mikaelson is devastated. Camille O’ Connell was bitten by an enhanced Lucien Castle and is now dying. Ironically enough, it’s nearly a year exactly into her life as a vampire when it happens, meaning it’s nearly Christmas time again. To make her last day memorable, the Mikaelsons throw a lively party, allowing Elijah to make a Christmas wish.
AUTHOR’S COMMENTARY: Yet another Camlijah story is here! Again, this comes at the suggestion of the lovely @elejah-wonderland, who is officially my Camlijah partner in crime...lol! Just forewarning you, my lovely readers, this is a sad Christmas story, because I apparently insisted on writing it that way. Even so, I hope you enjoy it!
———————————————————————————————————
They had tried everything, but noting worked. Camille O’Connell was dying from Lucien’s poisonous bite. She was alright for now, but everyone knew that it was only a matter of time before she perished, much like Finn Mikaelson already had.
It was tragic.
Now, most would assume that Elijah’s little brother, Niklaus, was the one who felt the tragedy of her soon-to-be loss the most. By all appearances, they were the closest, particularly in recent times when it became clear that the hybrid didn’t have romantic feelings for Hayley after all, but did, in fact, still felt deeply for his therapist.
However, though nobody knew it, it wasn’t the younger Mikaelson who was the closest to the lovely blonde.
It was the older Original that felt the most for Camille, particularly her inevitable loss. He had kept himself at bay when his brother made his feeling plainly clear for the woman, despite the memories of intimacy that haunted him. He couldn’t forget those moments that they had shared together, the ones that were just for their knowledge and nobody else’s.
The truth still remained a secret, hidden inside his heart forever.
Even so, it had been Elijah’s idea to give Camille one last hurrah, in order for everyone to show their love for the dying woman, so that she could go to the next world in peace. It was nearly Christmas time again, nearly exactly one year since she turned into a vampire. So, the Original decided that they should have a Christmas party, inviting the city to the Mikaelson Compound to celebrate, not only the holiday, but her life.
He had even taken it upon himself to make the preparations, while Niklaus stayed with the lady vampire. He went to each faction, inviting them all to a day of peace and camaraderie personally. Of course, he also told them of Camille’s terminal diagnosis. Once he did, they all agreed to attend without protest.
The young woman had touched a lot of lives in the French Quarter and they all wanted to pay their respects to her.
Before long, everything was set up and ready.
The compound courtyard where the party was to take place had been decorated from top to bottom with garland, lights, and colorful bulbs. A giant white Christmas tree with colorful lights had been erected as well. Tables that were filled with holiday food and drinks a plenty had been set out and a deejay had been compelled to play music.
Yes, this night would be perfect.
Soon, the party was in full swing. Everyone from all corners of the Quarter had come as requested. The festivities were jubilant, just as Elijah had wanted them to be. After all, this was a celebration of life, not a mourning of death.
The unity between the factions of the city for Camille was something extraordinarily amazing. It was touching.
Soon enough, Niklaus brought the lady of honor down from the upstairs rooms to join the rest of them for the party. She had weakened considerably and had to hang onto the hybrid’s arm for support, but she looked lovely anyway, dressed in a simple white dress with her golden locks hanging loosely around her shoulders.
The look of wonder on her sweet face was something that would be burnt into Elijah’s memory forever, joining the others that he’d cherish always. His breath was stolen. She was beautiful, and while he had always known that, he simply hadn’t realized how drawn to that beautiful light of hers until recently. In fact, he found himself moving through the crowds of people toward the lovely blonde as she came down the stairs.
Once Camille reached the bottom, she let go of his little brother’s arm, standing on her own rapidly weakening strength. Many people gathered around her to greet her. Some were witches, others wolves, and others still vampires. None of them looked sad or sympathetic or mournful. No, they all smiled brightly at her, wishing her a Merry Christmas and showing her nothing but their happiness to see her.
Then the young vampire’s blue eyes met Elijah’s brown ones upon his approach and sparks immediately flew, unlike ever before.
Politely, the older Original smiled and held out a hand to the young woman. “If you’d be so kind, Camille, would you join me for a dance?” He asked her.
With an exhausted, but bright smile, she nodded and took his hand in hers, letting him lead her onto the dance floor amongst the many other guests. They came together, swaying to the rather loud and obnoxious music. He held her closer than was necessary, holding the dying lady against him intimately and didn’t care who saw him do so, not even Niklaus.
“This is a lovely Christmas party, Elijah,” Camille said. “I’m glad that I get to enjoy one more before...before the end.” She looked down sadly.
“Let’s not talk about what will come,” he replied sternly, lifting her gaze back up to his own. “Tonight is for you, my dear. A night of celebration, in honor of a wonderful woman who has touched the lives of many and is loved by all who know her, including myself.”
The blonde smiled as tears welled up in her eyes at his touching words. “Elijah, that’s so sweet! It means a lot to me,” she replied, and taken by emotion, she leaned in to kiss his cheek.
The Original wasn’t at all surprised by her display of affection. In fact, he welcomed it readily.
When she leaned back to beam at him, he found himself smiling at her just as brightly. His heart was full of emotions for this woman and for the moment, none of them were focused upon the devastation of grief over her unavoidable fate that he couldn’t not stop nor the regret he felt over not realizing he had fallen in love with the lovely therapist ages ago.
No. The only things he felt for her right now were feelings of joy, contentment, and deep affection. This was perfect.
Eventually, after dancing for what seemed like hours, Elijah invited Camille to go somewhere private with him. He had bought a simple gift for the lady and had wanted to give it to her in a place where it was just the two of them.
The elegant vampire brought her into his study, where he opened one of the drawers in the desk and pulled out of a medium sized jewelry box. He had acquired the contents weeks ago when he had realized his true feelings for her and had hoped to have the opportunity to confess them to her with the romantic gesture.
Though he understood that Niklaus was in love with Camille too, Elijah simply couldn’t deny himself the chance to tell her how he felt any longer, in hopes of finding out that she felt the same.
Originally, when he had formulated this plan, the ancient vampire hadn’t expected this moment to come in the lady’s final hours. It was supposed to be a happy moment with long term intentions, a future that they could share together.
As usual, he had held back for too long, waiting until tragedy happened to let go.
Pushing that terrible truth out of his mind, he went to the expectant lady and presented her with the red velvet box. “I got this for you,” he told her, as he opened it and showed her what was  inside.
Camille’s eyes widened in surprise.
There was a matching set of diamond earrings and a white gold necklace with a diamond pendant, all shaped like stars. It wasn’t much, only a small token, but Elijah thought that the set were perfect for the young vampire. They had spoken to him, reminding him of her, when he had first laid eyes on the jewelry.
“Elijah, it’s gorgeous,” the therapist awed, gazing up from the box at him. “But what’s the occasion? I mean, I know I’m dying and it’s almost Christmas, but why would you get me this?”
“Well, in truth, I have a confession to make,” Elijah answered, putting the box down on his desk and lifting the necklace out to put it on her, which she allowed by turning around and pushing her hair out of the way. “As you know, for certain reasons, I tend to keep others at bay and more so, I make it a point to keep my feelings for others hidden. For their own protection mostly - and my own. However, every now and again, I tend to meet someone who breaks through my defenses, rendering me unable to hide my affections.”
Once the necklace was in place, the Original paused to collect the star shaped diamond stud earrings and handed them to Camille, who gladly put them on.
He licked his lower lip and then carried on, “I know we’ve shared intimacy a few times in the past, and at the time, I didn’t know for sure what it meant, the draw I had to you. I was a fool. But I know now. And though you don’t have much time, Camille, I have to tell you just this once, before it’s too late, that I love you.”
The dying woman didn’t look surprised by his confession. In fact, she looked relieved.
“It’s about time,” she said with a small smile, closing the distance until they were mere inches from each other. “Took you until I was dying to confess the way you feel about me. Though, I suspected it all along, particularly ever since our road trip. I suppose the delay is to be expected and I suppose it’s better late than never, as well.”
Elijah flashed her a tiny lopsided grin, “Is this your way of saying you feel the same way about me, Miss O’Connell?”
The blonde vampire laughed lightly, “Yes, yes, it is!”
Then Camille reached for him, grabbing onto the sides of his face and drawing his mouth to hers in a tender kiss. His arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her flush against him, while the other reached to cup the side of her neck, taking control from her. His tongue demanded entrance and she granted it without hesitation, letting him sweep inside her mouth to taste her hungrily.
Yes, this moment made the evening perfect. Though, he would forever regret not telling her how he felt sooner, Elijah was glad that he finally got around to doing so, even though their time was short.
Suddenly, his thoughts were disrupted when Camille’s legs gave out and she let out a moan of pain. The Original pulled back to see her distressed. It seemed their time was shortening quicker than he had hoped. By the way, she looked up at him weakly in apology, it was likely that she wouldn’t last the night.
Though, there wasn’t any surprise in that. Freya, Elijah’s older sister, had already said as much, which was why he had put together the party still going on downstairs.
The Original lifted the weakened woman up into his arms like a bride and carried her into the next room - his bedroom, where he laid her down upon the bed gently. She moaned in pain again, but opened her eyes to gaze at him lovingly.
“I know that I don’t have a lot of time left,” Camille told him, “and I don’t want to die with any regrets. So, I want you to make love to me, Elijah.”
“As much as I would love to, I’m not sure that is such a good idea,” he replied gently, sitting on the edge of the bed beside her. “You need to conserve your strength, dearest Camille, and I should probably gather the others, particularly Niklaus, so that we can all be with you...in these twilight hours of yours.”
Weakly, she sat up part way and reached for his arm as he moved to get up. She grinned mischievously at him despite her weakened state. “In a little while, perhaps. You know, the last time you told me something wasn’t a good idea, it ended up working out rather well,” she said. “You didn’t want to go on that road trip, but once you were convinced, it was the best time you had in a long time.”
Elijah chuckled, recalling that road trip vividly, “True, but circumstances are different this time, I’m afraid.”
“Please, Elijah?” She practically begged him. “Grant this dying woman’s wish?”
“Camille -,” he began to protest again.
The weakened woman gripped his wrist firmer as she sincerely said, “Today was supposed to be the beginning of the rest of our lives together, but due to circumstances, we only have tonight. So, please Elijah, stay with me - be with me.”
He laughed gently, tempted into doing as she asked, and leaned over to kiss her lips gently. “You are very persuasive, do you know that? I cannot resist your bewitching words.”
It was her turn to laugh, but it was swallowed up by his kissing her again. This time, it was more passionate, heated and full of want. If she wanted one last night with him, then who was he to deny her? After all, it was her dying wish.
Knowing time was short, the elegant vampire made quick work of his own clothes, using his heightened speed to undress until he was bare of clothing. Then he joined Camille on the bed, coming to rest between her parted thighs and resuming his kissing of her. Just from the intimacy of their bodies so close to each other, he was aflame with desire for her, despite her fragile condition.
He didn’t dare tear her own clothing from her since it was the only ones she had. Instead, Elijah simply hiked up her dress until it revealed the majority of her creamy flesh to him, save for her undergarments that covered her intimates, and set to work loving her body. His hands caressed her soft skin unhurriedly and his lips followed their trail, down her form.
Then he lifted her hips and pulled her white panties from her, exposing her wet center to him. The scent of her arousal was already strong and it only served to make him more hungry for her. He tossed the thin scrap of material aside, moving up to capture her mouth in a heated kiss again, before letting his lips caress her cheek, her jaw, and then her neck in loving, open mouthed kisses.
Simultaneously, he moved into position between her thighs, lining his hardened cock up with her moist heat and slowly sinking into her until he was fully seated inside. Despite time being not of abundance, the Original was unhurried in his taking of the lovely blonde. He movements were gentle and full of care - and love.
Camille sighed and moaned, curling her limbs around him loosely, her strength weak. He could feel the festering wound from Lucien on her arm as it scraped against his skin, but he paid it little attention. Elijah was completely focused upon the woman he loved, focusing on the bliss of being with her and nothing more.
Soon enough, his strokes grew in intensity, as he began a quicker pace, at her encouragement.
“I love you, Elijah,” Camille sighed in his ear as she pulled him against her.
The Original groaned into her neck. Her words made his heart soar. However, he kept the regret that threaten to well up inside him for not getting an earlier opportunity to hear those words from her lips at bay. He wouldn’t let it ruin this moment. They were together now and that was all that mattered.
“I love you too, darling,” he murmured back. “I always well.”
They began to pant and moan in unison as his hips moving faster still. The pleasure of being with this wonderful woman, whom had done so much for him and his family, began to take hold of him.
It was the same for her too. She began to arch into him, her nails raking his back as she did. Her walls began to constrict around his cock, signally the end was near.
Then it happened and Camille quietly cried out into the room, as her orgasm took her. Her end brought about Elijah’s own and with only a few more quick, hard thrusts, he was spilling inside her with a mighty groan.
Before he could slump against her, he rolled over and drew her to him, so that she cuddled into his side, as to not force her to take his weight in her weak state.
They didn’t speak for a long time, only enjoyed the bliss of being together. Nothing else mattered for a little while longer, but eventually the reality of what was happening to the young woman couldn’t be ignored. Her breath became labored and it was obvious her strength was leaving her quickly. It wouldn’t be long now.
“You know, every Christmas season my family makes wishes for the future,” Elijah murmured into Camille’s hair, as he stroked her side tenderly. “Do you want to hear my wish for you, dearest Camille? Do you want to know what I hope for?”
“Sure,” she sighed into his chest.
He smiled with sad fondness, “What I wish for this Christmas is that one day you and I will meet again, not here in this life, but in the next one. I hope that we will find each other in the afterlife, and that there, we shall find the upmost happiness together that we were denied here. I apologize for taking so long to give you my love, but it is yours. Always and forever.”
Camille hummed weakly, but said nothing. She had fallen unconscious.
Yes, it wasn’t long now at all.
Gently, Elijah removed himself from her embrace and laid her back against the pillows, knowing he had to go tell the others what was happening. However, first he redressed himself quickly and put her panties back in place, as well as put her dress down so that it covered her form. He made certain that nothing was out of place, though he didn’t have the heart to move her from his bed, despite knowing it would raise questions.
It didn’t matter now, if her presence there did. His love was leaving him, going to a place he could not follow.
Before he left the room, Elijah pressed his lips to her forehead one last time and received her thoughts.
“Elijah, I have a Christmas wish for you too,” she said to him in her mind. “I wish for you to not mourn me. I wish wholeheartedly for you to simply cherish the time that we had together. Finally, I wish you noting but happiness going forward. I do hope you find happiness, somewhere, someday, and not just you, but Klaus and Hayley and Freya and Vincent. I love you all, but I love you the most, Elijah Mikaelson...always and forever....”
With tears in his eyes, the Original pulled away from her. His heart threatened to shatter with the loss he felt, knowing within a short time, Camille would be gone forever. However, he had to smile, because he also knew that she would be watching over him and the others too, like the angel that she had been in life.
Knowing that brought comfort to him, as did the hope that his Christmas wish would come true, that one day, they would be together again in the afterworld.
In the meantime, Elijah swore that he would do his best to make her own Christmas wish for him and his family come true. He would bring peace to them all, in honor of Camille, the woman he had loved and lost all in the same night.
And he’d have her shining light to guide him.
His very own angel.
The End
1. After 1,000 Years
Tumblr media
My name is Elisha, Elisha Mikaelson, I've learned that I'm named after my father, Elijah, but I've never met him. I turned about 1000 years ago and I haven't left where I am at today, Mystic Falls, Virginia I haven't left here since my first transition. I've transitioned thousands of times and somehow I've been able to control it. To change whenever I want, wherever I want. It's quite freeing actually. Anyways, I've stayed around Mystic Falls as it came to be what it is nowadays. I lost contact with anyone in the Mikaelson bloodline, but Esther does come to me in dreams telling me that everything will be okay. Until one day she came to me and said that my father would be arriving outside of town and that I should meet with him. It was easy enough since I hang around the Petrova doppelganger, Elena, so after the founders masquerade ball when she gets taken I get taken as well. It was part of my plan and it worked. When I woke up from being knocked out I see that I'm sitting slumped over on the couch as Elena is curled up on the other side.
"You realize that they aren't going to hurt you right?" I ask looking at her.
"How can you be so certain?"
"Because they want to hand you over to a guy by the name of Elijah Mikaelson to try to get off his naughty list, but I have a feeling that that's not going to happen- them getting on his good side I mean."
"How do you know that?"
"Because I have ears Elena, and I may or may not be a supernatural creature of wonder," I laugh a little at my clever response when I hear the front door open as a guy that I recognize the smell of walks in the room quietly. I only partially listen to the conversation between the female and Elijah before they both walk into the room.
"You're here great," I say getting up and vamp speeding over to the women, "I'm leaving but I figured I would say goodbye and your friend over there won't stop fidgeting which is making the slightest noise but is annoying the crap out of me."
"I'm sorry who are you?" Elijah asks.
"Well, I'm insulted that you don't recognize me," I say fake hurt and he gives me a confused look, "1001," I say before walking past him, but he grabs my arm, "I'm not leaving the house Elijah, just simply leaving the room, I know you have more questions for me, but you have more pressing matters to attend to," with that I walk out of the room into one of the side rooms.
After about five minutes Elijah walks in, "Who are you, and I want an answer this time."
"Elisha Mikaelson, born 986 to a Mariah Addams and her side guy Elijah Mikaelson. When Nicholas found out I wasn't his he started to beat me, that's when my mother found Esther and made a deal with her to teach me magic since I am a witch, but my mother was a wolf so that made me a hybrid. Then when your brother, Henrik, died when him and Niklaus decided to watch the wolves and they got attacked, I was the one that drew the wolf away from them to make their escape."
"You were the little girl that was at the edge of the woods," he says.
"Yeah, it was the pack that I was in that did it, more specifically Nicholas, he was the guy I called father before I knew that he wasn't, he knew what he was doing when he attacked your family. He thought it was one of them that was my father, but it was neither, like I said before."
"You said that I am your father which is impossible."
"I happened before we were turned," I say as I take down one of the boards on the windows, "can you have your moles give me back my daylight right?" I ask turning to him, "I know I don't need it but it's nice to have, it was my mother's, and if I have to get it back heads will roll," after I say this a see a small smile on his face as he nods.
"Gladly, but how do I know you are telling the truth?"
I sigh at this and motion for him the come closer as I pull out a pocket knife and pull over a table, "it's a simple spell, our blood mixes fully then you are my father, if it doesn't well Esther will have a pretty pissed off tribrid and frankly I'm not fun when I'm pissed," with that I slice my hand and hand him the blade for him to do the same. Once there was enough blood pulled on the table I start the spell. Within 2 minutes our blood was fully mixed together and I look at him, "there you have it, and if you don't trust me, I know other witches that can do the same spell and come out with the same result."
"I don't think that will be necessary," he says standing up, "we must be leaving soon, let's go collect the Petrova doppelganger," he says as we starts to walk away and I follow. Once we get back into the room I see the two from before just standing there as Elena is sitting on the couch. The guy starts talking and I ignore him as Elijah starts to circle him. I walk over and sit next to Elena and I can sense her uneasiness.
"You'll be fine, just calm down," I tell her as Elijah slaps the guy so hard that it decapitates him, now that's how you make heads roll.
There was the sound of glass breaking and Elijah looks at the girl, "who else is in the house?"
"I don't know," there was another crashing sound and I was able to smell who it was. Salvatore's, of course.
Elijah grabs Elena and we move to the entryway, "come out now," he announces as one of the Salvatores speed past us.
"Up here," Damon says and Elijah speeds up the steeps.
"No down here," he comes down the steps and I try to focus on where the two are at.
"If i have to come and get you I assure you someone's head is going to roll and it won't be mine," Elijah says.
"You think you can beat us, but you can't." I say as Elena walks out from one of the hiding places and Elijah walks up the steps.
"You're right, I'll come just don't hurt my friends," that's when I notice the grenade thing that she had right before she threw it. I was quick and took most of the vervain.
"I tried to play it nice and let you guys walk out of here but I don't know if I can let that now," Elijah says as he makes a stake out of the coat rack. I stayed back as Damon and Stefan fight Elijah before Damon stakes him.
"Come on let's go," Damon says to me as I continue to just stare at Elijah's face.
"Go, I'll take care of the body, I'll meet you guys back in town okay?" they nod and leave. I wait to make sure that the car is out of hearing range before pulling the stake out knowing that would only be minutes till he wakes up. I sit on the steps as i wait until I hear his heartbeat return to normal and look up, "would you look at that sleeping beauty woke up," I laugh slightly at this, "oh and here," I say tossing him a blood bag, "it was empty but I found a nice rabbit outside, figured would help you gain some of your strength back till you can get some actual blood."
"It's better than nothing at this point," he sighs drinking it.
"Do you want to go back to my place, it's right outside of town and you'll be able to watch over everything," i say standing up and walking down the steps, "just say the word and i'll take you there, unless of course you already have a place," i say and he smiles slightly.
"I would love to see where you have been staying," he offers me his hand which i just basically high five it before walking out.
"I'm not about that in times like this, you should learn some things about me," i laugh at this as i walk over to his car, "you coming?" i ask as i shake the keys in my hand which i so expertly slipped off him.
"How did you-"
"Slip them off you?" he nods, "i'm sneaky, i am a tribrid after all, i could use magic to lift them up and my speed to take them. Oh and you may be older than me body wise, but power wise no one stands a chance."
"Now you kinda sound like Katrina," Elijah laughs a little at this.
"Do not compare me to her, god I want to kill her, i almost killed Elena thinking it was Katherine, whoops," i say starting the car.
"You almost killed the doppelganger?"
"That was before i knew she was a doppelganger obviously, i wouldn't purposefully take out the person that could possibly help some people."
"Is my brother one of them?" he asks curiously.
"Depends if he wants to be a 100% asshole to me then hell no," he laughs at this again as i start to drive, "but know i found a couple wolves on the outskirts of town then i've been trying to help, they are trying to go after the moonstone," there was silence for a minute, "they don't know what has to be done and if the do they don't care. I've grown close to Elena and her friends and i don't care if i have to be stuck with the wolf cures, i beat it pretty much."
"How though?"
"I forced myself to change until i could do it without any pain and i could change at will," i sigh slightly, "it was hell, but it feels good to be free, these wolves are asking for my help, and i plan on give it to them. They have been good to me so i'm willing to help unless they start causing trouble for me."
"I can kinda see how we are related now," Elijah laughs a little at this.
We were driving in complete silence which got boring after about two minutes, "okay how do you drive in silence?" i ask as i turn on the radio. The music was soft and mellow but it took away the silence that was defining. It was close to fifteen minutes later when i was pulling into the driveway then into the garage, "home sweet home," i say getting out of the car tossing Elijah the keys, "follow me," i walk into the house sensing almost immediately one of the wolves, "who decided to come into my home uninvited?" i ask rather loudly as i put my jacket on the back of a chair walking over to the fridge, "stop hiding, he's not going to hurt you," i toss Elijah a blood bag as he looks of me confused and i motion to my ear, "come on, any day now," i call once more as one of the wolves i've been working with comes out.
"Elisha, i thought you were dead," Oliver says.
"I actually have to laugh at that," i tell him, "i told you, it would take a lot to kill me," i say walking over to Oliver, "now why are you here?"
"It's Rosa, she's going off the deep end again," he sighs.
"Why does this concern me exactly?"
"She triggered her curse this time, all the others were near misses, but this time-"
I cut him off, "why weren't you watching her? You had one job," i vamp speed over to him pinning him against the wall.
"I had to go see my sister, she was sick," he tries to reason to me, "i would have taken her with me, but i didn't want her to also get sick."
"Who did you leave her with?"
"Jessica, she was supposed to keep her in the house for two hours, but she let Rosa out of her sight for five minutes."
"It only takes one to kill someone Oliver, you of all people should know that," i let him go before walking over to the fridge to grab the bag of blood i opened last night as i grab a glass and poured it in i also grab the bottle of Wolf's Bane that i have and pour it into a glass, "here, you need to calm down, i will help her like i helped the rest of you," i hand him the glass and he downed it choking almost immediately, "but that still does not change the fact that you went against your word to me, i don't take that lightly," he looks up at me with terrified eyes, "bring her to me, and i'll think about giving you my forgiveness, but don't count on it," he nods before running out of the house as i grab the glass and walk over to mine that is sitting on the counter.
"Who was that?"
"A puppy that i've been working with, he is one of the most loyal out of all of them. A slip up from him means a sip up from the rest of them. Rosa is like the younger sister i never had and i ask them to watch her for one day and this is what happened. She is just a little girl, she is too young to have to deal with the supernatural world," i through the glass that once had the wolf's bane at the wall, i can tell this caught Elijah off guard as i look at him. That's when i realize my eyes changed and i looked away, "sorry, i just can't believe it happened to her. Jessica's gonna pay though, and she better be ready," i take a drink of my blood and caught a little bit, "god i forgot to mix this up."
"What's in that?" Elijah asks picking up the glass to smell it.
"Vervain and Wolfsbane mixed with blood, i built up a tolerance so i'm not phased by it if someone thinks they can torture me since they can't kill me."
"That's not a bad idea," he nods to this, "but why am i not affected?"
"Because i mix it as i go, that was an unopened bag so it wasn't mixed in any way."
"Okay what about earlier today with the Vervain grenade?"
"I didn't know that they had that, but as soon as i saw it i knew i would be less affected by it then you so i made my move. It hit me and by the time your skin was just starting to heal i was already healed," i say as i walk to the fridge and grab the bottle of vervain, "here let me show you," i sit the bottle down and open it up and pour a little bit in the glass. I stick a finger in and pull it out when it started to burn, "if you put your hand in there you won't be able to keep it in there for to long."
"You can't be compelled anyways so why do you do this other than the entire torturing thing, which makes no sense since you are strong."
"To be honestly, i don't know if you could compel me, i was changed after you and your siblings, but i'm a tribrid which makes me stronger. I don't want to take that risk though, i prefer that when i'm around people to be me and to have level head."
"That's understandable," he nods as the door opens and i use my speed to pin the person to the wall.
"Elisha, it's me," Oliver says.
"Slip up number 2 Oliver, three strikes and you're out," i push away from him and turn to see Jessica walking with Rosa.
"Elisha!" Rosa running over to give me a hug.
"Hey little one, how are you?"
"I'm good, i feel like i'm a lot stronger than i used to be, but that's it," i smile at her.
"Well come on i got something i want to give you," i say as i take her hand walking into the kitchen were Elijah was still standing.
"Who's that? He smells weird," Rosa says wrinkling her nose up in disgust.
"Rosa this is Elijah, he's a friend, you can trust him," i tell her as i let her go and grab a glass and put a little bit of wolfsbane in it then diluted it with water, "here drink this," she nods and takes a sip coughing a bit before drinking the rest, "what happened to you?"
"What do you mean?"
"Rosa you know what i mean," i say picking her up and sitting her on a chair, she looks over at Jessica and Oliver then back at me, "you two can leave, i'll find you later," they nod and leave the house, "you're safe now okay?" she nods as she starts to cry.
"I didn't mean to, he was coming after Max and me, he hurt Max and the only thing i could do was stop him," i pull her into my chest as she continues to cry.
"Shh, it's okay, it's okay."
"I don't want to change," she cries more.
"You have to now, but i'll help you," i pull her away from me slightly and wipe her tears away, "i'll get you through this, i promise you," she nods and i hug her again, "Elijah can you grab her a glass of water?" i whisper knowing that he heard when he moved and got the glass. I motion for him to follow me as i pick her up and carry her to one of the extra rooms and lay her down taking the glass from Elijah's hand, "drink this and get some rest, we will fight this tomorrow okay?" she nods taking the glass before drinking some of the water. She sits the glass down and crawls under the blankets. "Somnus," i say placing my hand on her head as she falls asleep easily. I motion for Elijah to leave as i make sure everything is put away in the room that would need to be put away.
"What was that?" he asks.
I motion for him to sit on the couch as i sit across from him, "Somnus, is a simple spell i learned that will put someone to sleep, i could do it to you right know if i so please," he nods to this, "so i'm guessing you want to know a little bit about myself since i'm the mystery Mikaelson child that should not in all means should have been born, but i was."
"Yes i would certainly like to know, especially since i never knew you existed. If i did trust me i would have kept you with me, or at least hid you so no one would find you."
"When you say no one do you mean Mikael?" he nods to this, "don't worry, he wants me dead for being anything similar to Niklaus," he gives me a confused look and i sigh, "let me start from the beginning," he nods to this so i begin, "My story is really confusing when you think about it because the guy i was calling father was never actually my father and the women that lived by me and taught me magic was my grandmother. I didn't know that at the time. Nicholas, the man i called father for the first 15 years of my life, hated me when he found out that i wasn't his. He only found out because i was a hybrid. My mom and 'dad' were both in a pack of wolves with no magical background, but my actual father had to be a witch, leaving only your family, the question was which one was it. My mother tried to protect me from Nicholas's raft but it never worked so when I started to show signs of magic she sent me to the only other person that knew who my true father was, Esther. She taught me how to control my power and what herbs i could use to help heal people. It was wonderful until Esther's husband, Mikael, showed up one day in a bad mood and it scared me. Granted Esther had hid me so he wouldn't see me, but i didn't want to return to their home after that so Esther and i started to meet in the woods, just outside of the village and my pack's territory. I would never meet her on a full moon knowing that my pack would be out waiting for someone to come into their territory to attack.
"I was out wandering one day on a full moon, watching my pack and observing what they did when i noticed that there were two people also watching. Before i could do anything someone from the pack caught them, attacking. I jumped out of my hiding spot and distracted the wolf as i saw the one guy grab the other and run out of the woods. I was able to get under cover again and have the wolf lose the track it had on me quickly before running in the same direction as the two guys. Once i got to the edge of the woods i could see a family morning and i basically stop dead when i recognize Esther. When i look at the family i notice two people staring at me, the one i recognize as Mikael, the other i want to say was you from the way he was dressed and his mere appearance. You started to walk towards me but i saw Mikael stop you before i ran back into the woods to my home. It wasn't long after that that Esther told me that she doesn't want to lose and of her children or grandchild. I was confused at first then she explained everything to me about how my mother and her son were secretly together but broke it off when i was born. That's when she showed me the spell she was going to do to make her family imortal, i was included. I told her that i would do it, if i didn't have to be there when she did the rest of her family, she agreed. That night she turned her family and once they were all lying on the ground unconscious i came out of the shadows and she did it to me, except she hid me when i was unconscious.
"When i woke up i saw the family sitting around the fire and i wanted to go over to them, but i knew i couldn't. Then the hunger sunk in, i was hungry not for food, but blood. I new it was to dangerous for me to stay around the village so i ran to my pack. I found Nicholas sitting in the small living room in our home and it looked like he was attacked. I questioned him about it but he never answered, just got up and walked over to me, that's when i noticed the cut on his arm and i could feel the hunger grow. When he was close to me i used my small size to duck under his arm before using my strength to pin him to the wall as i sink my teeth into his arm. I pulled away after a little bit and i could feel the pointed teeth poke through my gums as the veins come out of my eyes. Nicholas looked terrified as i sunk my teeth into his neck and drained him. I regretted it once i let his body drop because i knew i killed him triggering the cures. I screamed in pain as every single done in my body broke until i was a wolf. I ran out of the house and into the woods to a location i knew all too well. That's when i see people standing there and i stay hidden, waiting, to see what their move was going to be. I smelled blood when i see the one guys face, it was one of Esther's sons i wasn't sure which one though. Once he let the body drop to the ground and turned to face Mikael he dropped to the ground screaming. He was a wolf. Something felt off when i was around him, but i couldn't place it. I could see something in Mikael's eyes when he said something about the guy not being his own. Then i saw him grabbing a stake and moving to the guy as he was still on the ground. I had to do something so i jumped out of my hiding spot and stood in between the guy and Mikael.
"I growled at him as i showed my teeth, i could see his hesitation before he came after me and i lunged at him tackling him to the ground snapping at his face. I let my teeth graze over his skin and i left a few scratch marks before getting off of him to see the guy fully transformed. I heard a howl and looked at him before running off I knew he followed me. It was maybe an hour or two when i started to grow tired and i could tell that i would be changing back and i knew it was the same for the guy so i ran back to where he was at before and he followed. He changed back first and i could see that his energy was drained, but i was able to find his clothes giving them to him. He somehow found the energy to at least put on his pants before collapsing. I grab his pant leg and dragged him back to his home somehow undetected before running back to my home where i curl up onto the door step and fell asleep. When i woke up the next morning i was in my bed with blankets over me. My brother was sitting next to me, he told me that he also somehow triggered his curse but was able to bounce back a lot easier."
Elijah almost looks shocked, "how do you know Mikael wants you dead?"
"I stayed here in Mystic Falls for most of my life, but i did make a trip to New Orleans when i heard you were there, but when i got there all that was left was Mikael, he thought I helped you all escape since he recognized me. He was going to kill me, but i was able to use my power to stop him. That's how he knows that i'm a tribrid. I first tried to just scare him off by showing my wolf side, but that just seemed to enrage him, probably because my eyes are so recognizable compared to other wolves. When he knew that i was the wolf that stopped him from killing Niklaus all those years ago he came after me so i used my magic. He told me that once he took down Niklaus that he would come after me, with all his children at his side. I tried my best to find any of you. I talked to Marcellus Gerard to see where i could find any of your possessions. I tried every tracker spell possible but i couldn't find you. Esther came to me in my sleep and told me that if you don't want to be found you can't be found, not even by magic. She assured me that you all were safe and if Mikael came close to finding you that she would let me know where you were at and if she thinks that you would need my help so i could come," i look down at the ground.
"She never contacted you," he says and i nod.
"But she did when you came into town. I purposely got myself kidnapped with Elena so i could met you because i know you never knew i excited and i didn't want to be my mother's secret anymore. I want to help my family, even if it is only you," i look at him with serious eyes, "my mother, i somehow turned her into a hybrid, she bowed down to everything i said, but she would never tell me anything about you, i hated her for it. Then again she told me that i should have never been born, called me a disgrace, the list goes on," i sigh slightly at this, "i know that none of it was true, if it was she wouldn't have been so loyal to me. That was until after i went to New Orleans and she followed me, she told Mikael everything how i am nothing more than an unwanted child just like Niklaus. That was of course after he recognized me, she also told him that i would always help you and your siblings run, just as i promised, Always and forever. She used my words against me, i told her that family to me is always and forever, but that didn't matter. When i ran back here to mystic falls she followed and i killed her."
"Where did you get the phrase always and forever from?" Elijah asks looking up at me.
"It was in a dream i had, i don't remember it in detail, but i just remember the phrase Always and Forever and that's how i see family. I didn't want to kill my mother, but i knew that Mikael had a which put a spell on her so he could track her and in teams track me, if he came there would be a bloodbath and i was not about that. Then you have my brother-"
"Which is wondering why there is a guy in the house," my brother says.
"Brother its so nice to have you home," i say standing up and walking over to him, "so what did your adventures bring this time for me to clean up?"
"Nothing at all dearest sister," he says, "that's what i got Mathew for."
"When you go away but when you're here it's my job to clean up after you, and frankly i better not here that people in the town start going missing, or anyone around here for that matter."
"Why is that?" i could smell the alcohol on his breath.
"Well the dearest Salvatore brothers are back in town and animal attacks are on the rise. Meanwhile i don't need you eating people that can play a key factor in a plan of mine, if you're hungry there are plenty of blood bags in this house," i tell him and he just kind of smirks.
"Whatever you say," he laughs, "still who is the boy toy over there?"
"One he is not a boy toy he is like me to a point and if you so much as try to go against him you won't have to worry about him you'll have to deal with me."
"Still not answering my question."
"My name is Elijah," said person says standing up and walking over.
"Elijah as in your father Elijah or is this someone else?"
"Cuan, you're drunk, go up to your room and sleep it off, we'll talk about this tomorrow when you are in your right mind."
"When do you think you could start telling me what to do?" he asks stepping closer to me, but i was quick to pin him to the nearby wall.
"The moment i turned you 1000 years ago, and the fact that i am your alpha," i could tell that my eyes where my werewolf blue ones.
"Okay," he says as i let him go and he walks away.
"Sorry about that, he is quite a nuisance when he is drunk."
"I don't mind, he reminds me of my siblings."
"Please tell me it's not one in particular because if it is they sound like they need a babysitter."
He laughs slightly at this, "no not one in particular, but he does remind me a little but of Kol and of Niklaus."
"I want to know more about your siblings, all Esther ever said was their names and a little about them, but that's it."
"Well those are tails for a latter date," he says and i'm confused till i look at the time: midnight.
"Do you have a place to stay for the night?"
"No, but it shouldn't be to hard to find somewhere."
"It won't because you are staying here, i can grab you some clothes," i offer and he smiles a bit, "follow me," with that i lead him up to a spare bedroom before going into my brothers room to grab one of his shirts and a pair of sweatpants, "here, these should fit you."
"Thank you."
"It's not a problem, i finally have someone that i'm related to by blood, i'm going to help you, always and forever."
"Always and forever," he says back to me with a small smile as i leave the room. Once i get to mine which was just next to Elijah's i change quickly checking my phone.
The Klaroline Shipper Games: Ch. 18
Hello, my lovely readers. We're back with brand new chapters! On with the show…
Chapter 19: Think Long and Hard About Your Next Move
It came as a little shock to Elijah Mikaelson when his younger brother, Niklaus, came storming into their home. His brother's body was coiled tight, as if he meant to spring upon a likely foe. In this case, Elijah already knew his brother's wrath was directed at Damon Salvatore and Elena Gilbert. And Elijah had to keep himself cool and collected, otherwise a smile of triumph might appear, ruining many of his team's plans.
"Elijah," Klaus hissed out. "Something is going on around here." Stomping from one side of Elijah's study to the other, Klaus only paused to shoot his older brother a death glare before returning to his wearing through Elijah's imported carpet. "I need you, brother. We must find out what Caroline's little friends from New Orleans are up to. I swear to you, if they mean our family harm, they will return to Mystic Falls, sans heads."
A wicked smile appeared on Klaus' face until he noted Elijah's eyes on the open door. Caroline Forbes stood there, her arms folded over her chest and a deep look of disapproval was on her face. "Thanks, Klaus, I was just thinking my time in the Big Easy was coming to an end. Thanks for making that decision a lot easier." Turning her back on Klaus, Caroline stormed away.
Klaus let out a heavy sigh. "You could have warned me," he snapped, his eyelids lowered.
Elijah smirked at Klaus. "You didn't ask. And it is not always up to me to protect you from yourself. Now, why don't you go, and clean up your mess. I have family matters to deal with."
"Such as?" Klaus eyed the book on Elijah's desk.
Elijah cocked an eyebrow. "It does not concern you, yet, Niklaus. I will alert you when it does. In the meantime, find some nice way to make up with Miss Forbes. I do enjoy her presence. She makes this home…lighter."
Eyebrows rising, Klaus paused for a moment before a small smile graced his lips and then he turned toward the door with a purpose in his step. "We'll talk later."
"Right," Elijah muttered. After a moment, he peeked under the desk. "You can come out now."
Hayley groaned. "Remind me not to get down there, again." She took Elijah's proffered hand before straightening and blowing out a breath. "What is with the book?" she asked, brushing her hair over her shoulder and moving into Elijah's personal space.
"Um…" Elijah forced his attention to his work. "Yes. This books is part of our family history. I believe that I might know who is concocting the chaos that created a problem with Damon's team today –"
"Yeah," Hayley muttered, interrupting Elijah as she pulled out her phone from the front of her dress and Elijah decided not to think about where it had been. "Speaking of Damon's epic fail, you think it's fair for his team to lose points?" She glanced from the phone to Elijah. "And I think that you're sending Klaus to go work things out with Caroline should earn us points. Plus, the smooth line about how you think Caroline brings 'light' to the house. So sweet, Elijah." She grinned and wrapped an arm around him, "Selfie for the champions of this year's games."
So this is my third and final part to my Bold Type fusion (can you believe the show’s coming back in June?) In all honesty this could have been a full length fic but I have way too many other things to write. You can read part one HERE and part two HERE on my Crossroads Drabble collection.
Yankees and Red Sox can’t play in a World Series, I know, but this is fan fiction and creative license.
She Sets the City on Fire
“I cannot believe Jenna is making me do this,” Katherine hissed. It was Friday morning, the day of the big meeting between her lawyer and Mikaelson publishing to discuss the defamation suit.
“I think this is her way of teaching you a lesson, Kitty Kat.”
“For what? I did nothing wrong and if those stuffy, egotistical suits are going to try and say that I’m at fault then they have another thing coming and also…”
“Woah,” Bonnie interrupted, holding her hand up to Katherine’s fast moving mouth to halt her tirade. “What have I told you about riling her up again, Care? Especially before the caffeine has had the optimal amount of time to kick in?”
The girls were at Bluestone Lane on West 37th Street, their morning ritual before work. Jenna had called Katherine in the previous day to tell her she would be accompanying Arabella’s lawyer to the meeting at Mikaelson Publishing.
“If I were you, I’d keep my mouth shut today,” Caroline warned. “Jenna just wants this to go away and stirring up more trouble could cost you more than your pride.”
“And by that she means, your job.”
“Thanks Bonnie, I got that,” she growled. “I just hate that I have to grovel to those chauvinistic…”
“Okay,” Caroline silenced her quickly. “Let’s get to work, maybe you can work off some of that anger in the meantime, Pierce.”
As they made their way up 37th, Caroline was struggling to keep her mind off a certain blonde haired Mikaelson that’d weaselled his way into her life, her thoughts, her sub conscious and her panties, something she was determined would never happen. Hell, she wasn’t much better than the woman who sent Klaus panties for a birthday gift. Caroline had become just another notch on his bedpost and that fact was killing her.
Not because the sex was bad, on the contrary it was phenomenal. On top of the extremely attractive facial features he’d been gifted, he obviously worked out given his impressive, toned physique and stamina. But it wasn’t just the physical attributes, it was as if something snapped inside her emotionally as she lay in his arms afterwards listening to his steady breathing and Caroline knew she was in trouble. She shook her head trying to clear her thoughts.
“What’s wrong with her?”
“She’s having a hot and sexy flashback from her night with…”
“Excuse me? I’m still here,” she hissed.  “At least wait until we get to the office so you can talk about me behind my back.”
“You like him?” Bonnie said, more like a statement than a question.
“I do not,” she bit out. “Klaus Mikaelson is an egotistical, womanising, arrogant ass that thinks he can get anyone into bed.”
“Well, with all due respect, Care…”
“I’m well aware I fell prey to his womanising charms but it wasn’t my fault.”
“Okay, just so you know that whole excuse about protecting me and drinking too much isn’t going to fly anymore. Why can’t you just admit that you have a bit of a crush, Forbes?”
She felt her cheeks flush, her downward glance on the sidewalk not doing much to hide it. They both erupted into giggles, tickling her ribs from both sides. Once they’d somewhat calmed their assault, Caroline strode purposefully ahead before responding. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“How about that ticket to the World Series?” Bonnie offered slyly, catching up as they entered the lobby of their building. “Last time I checked you still have it stashed securely in your handbag.”
“I’m going to send it back,” she mumbled. “I was just waiting for the right time.”
“The game is tonight,” Katherine shot back. “Pretty sure your time is running out. Why can’t you just admit that you want to go with him?”
“Fine, I want to go,” she admitted, albeit reluctantly. “These are box seats and I’ve never been to a World Series match. If only they didn’t have to include an unwanted guest rooting for the Yankees.”
“You realise he was the one who invited you and it’s at Yankee Stadium, right? If anyone’s unwanted…”
“Thanks, Bon,” she growled. “All I’ve ever wanted since I was little and sitting on my dad’s lap watching baseball was to go to a Red Sox, World Series match. My dad always promised to take me one day but, well uh, that never happened…” She trailed off, both girls smothering her with hugs before she could continue and shed some unwelcome and public tears. They both knew just how much her father meant to her and that she still missed him everyday.
“Then it’s settled, you are going to go to that match,” Katherine insisted, wiping a pesky tear that had managed to escape.
“But…”
“Did you ever wonder why he put that ticket in your purse?” Bonnie asked curiously.
“Probably wanted round two and figured that was, apart from alcohol, the best way to get me into bed again.”
“Someone thinks extremely highly of their sexual prowess,” Katherine teased, earning a dirty glance from her best friend in the process. “I think what Bonnie is trying to say is that this guy knows you. I mean he remembered you follow the Red Sox.”
“Like that’s difficult,” she spluttered. “I was wearing a cap when we first met.”
“I know this is a foreign concept in that over worked and crowded mind of yours, Care, but did you ever stop to think maybe he wants to see you again because he likes you?”
“You’re crazy, Bonnie,” Caroline dismissed, pressing the elevator button and desperately trying to put him out of her mind. Of course she’d thought about it and that’s what was throwing her emotions off balance.
“You’re going to do what?” Klaus demanded, looking at his brother in surprise.
“I think it’s best if I’m in the meeting between Arabella and our legal team,” he insisted, adjusting his tie.
“What is going on with you?” He murmured. “What happened to my stuffy brother who abides by the rules and has no sex life?”
“No need to be so crass, Niklaus,” he growled. “This is about Mikaelson Publishing’s reputation.”
“Oh, you mean the reputation you threatened when you decided to start a twitter war with the defendant?”
“I will not allow their indiscretions to defame one of our publications.”
“Exactly why you initiated the suit and we’re in line for an attractive settlement. You are the CEO of this company and, last time I checked, didn’t attend minor settlement discussions. We’d be a laughing stock if the Board found out you’d been attending such low level meetings.”
“There’s nothing wrong with being involved in all facets of our company, in fact I think that shows a great understanding of…”
“Okay, I give up!” He conceded, throwing his hands up in the air in defeat. “What the hell is going on here and don’t give me any more ridiculous excuses, Elijah, I’m ageing another year just waiting for a bloody explanation.” Klaus sensed his brother was close to breaking and it was at that moment he knew his instincts were spot on.
“I kind of know her,” he offered, albeit meekly.
“Who?”
“Katherine Pierce,” Klaus was struggling to respond. That was the last thing he was expecting coming from his brother’s mouth.
“How exactly?” He asked, taking a much needed seat at his desk.
“Well, only really by reputation,” he explained. “She’s this feisty and unapologetic presence online I stumbled upon by accident and then I was intrigued.”
Klaus stilled, realising that his usually responsible brother and CEO of their worldwide publishing company had brought a defamation case against Arabella Magazine all in the name of a pathetic, and slightly creepy, crush over someone he didn’t actually know. He closed his eyes trying to steel his nerves, their lawyers were due in the conference room in less than fifteen minutes.
“We’ll be lucky if she doesn’t slap a restraining order against you instead,” he muttered. “How long has this infatuation been going on exactly?”
“Not long,” he offered weakly. “And she was out of line, I still stand by my actions.”
“But you fancy her too, excuse me if I’m a little confused,” he growled. “There are other ways to get women, you know that right?” Klaus wished he could be so confident given the way Caroline Forbes had snuck out on him and not contacted him since, especially since he’d left that ticket in her bag.
A million thoughts had taken over his already crowded mind. His initial assessment had been that she either hated him and their night together or his more hopeful wish that she was as nervous as him given the connection he’d felt. In fact he’d never felt so close to someone as Klaus had Caroline. He was a goner, not that he had any intention of admitting that fact for fear of rejection.
“You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?”
“Finding out my usually boring, celibate, older brother is harbouring a weird crush, for sure,” he agreed heartily. “But not sure exactly how I’m going to handle this mess.”
“She was in the wrong.”
“But given your feelings, I’m fairly certain you also provoked her comments,” he offered. “The defamation suit is dropped and don’t think about arguing with me, stalker.”
******
Katherine Pierce was nervous, not her usual confident self as they made their way towards a very familiar board room. Last time she was here, Katherine was distracted by an extremely gorgeous man in a pristine suit while Bonnie shot insults at his brother and Caroline did the same over a rogue pair of birthday panties.
This time it was serious. She never wanted to implicate Jenna or the magazine in her impulsive twitter war. Katherine liked to think she was tempestuous and argumentative, speaking for those who sometimes didn’t have a voice. Turns out having an opinion came at a high price.
“Miss Pierce,” she looked into the familiar, blue eyes of a certain guy that was messing with her best friend’s emotions.
This she hadn’t expected, strangely enough he seemed just as surprised as her by the startled expression on his face and tell tale wobble in his voice. No doubt he was mentally joining the pieces of the puzzle together and realising that she and Caroline weren’t delivery people or NYU anthropology students as they previously claimed.
“Mr Mikaelson.” They held each other’s gazes curiously before taking their seats at the expansive boardroom table. Yes, she knew he was their Chief Operating Officer but not expecting him to make an appearance at such low level talks beside their in-house lawyer.
“If you’ll allow me to make an opening statement,” Arabella’s lawyer began just as the blonde Mikaelson held up his hand, halting proceedings. What happened next Katherine wasn’t expecting.
“He did what?” Caroline exclaimed spinning in her chair, earning the attention of the whole office her reaction was so loud.  Katherine had only returned to Arabella five minutes earlier before her friends dragged her into the fashion closet to avoid prying eyes and ears and were now peppering her with questions.
“He dropped the suit? What? Just like that?” Bonnie asked incredulously, trying on the nearby jewellery and checking her reflection in the mirror.
“Yeah, it wasn’t expected that was for sure but he realised who I was and didn’t want to slap Caroline’s friend with a defamation suit, talk about awkward during future social situations.”
“He did not,” Caroline murmured. “I mean what was he doing there in the first place?”
“I’m guessing he’s your typical micro-manager,” Bonnie offered.
“Even so,” Caroline murmured sarcastically. “The one thing I know about Klaus Mikaelson is that he’s professional and business is his upmost priority. He would never drop a suit for…”
“You’re underestimating the power of the penis.”
“You did not just say penis?” Katherine asked, looking at Bonnie questioningly. “You write for a woman’s magazine the least you could do is be more creative like cock or…”
“Don’t judge,” she shot back, sending Katherine a dirty glance. “Anyway, last time I checked this isn’t about anatomy but Caroline’s boyfriend.”
“He’s not my boyfriend,” she murmured self consciously. Ever since Caroline heard about his decision to drop the suit she was confused. “And this has nothing to do with me.”
“Well, then how do you explain it?” Caroline couldn’t explain it and it was killing her. The one thing she knew was that she had to keep her World Series date with Klaus, or whatever it was, to get the answers she needed.
“I need to go,” she offered weakly, by way of response.
“Wait! What are you going to wear tonight?” Katherine asked as she retreated. She turned back to face them both amongst the designer clothing and accessories. For once she wanted to be her low income self and not the designer alter ego she’d created.
“I’ve got this.” She was gone before they could argue.
********
Klaus was fairly certain he’d never felt so anxious, ever. He was sitting in the box, feet tapping on the ground nervously awaiting her arrival, if she came of course. When he left that ticket in her purse it was a gamble. Usually women threw themselves at him, more so for his fortune and name, but Caroline Forbes was different.
It wasn’t just her natural beauty, wit or that feisty disposition, it was the fact she didn’t seem affected by him or his family. He’d been a womaniser in the past but Caroline was different.
When Katherine Pierce turned out to be her friend, Klaus had put the pieces together, searching the internet for everything he could find. Caroline wasn’t a delivery person, she wasn’t an anthropology student either but a finance major with an impressive GPA. These were all remarkable attributes but for some reason extremely protective friend was what grabbed his attention most.
He’d fallen in love with her at that moment and needed to be close to her again, if only just to smell the vanilla scent from her golden waves or hear that melodic laugh. But his hopes for getting her to the baseball were diminishing with every minute.
“I heard the Red Sox were going to wipe the floor with your Yankees,” he could smell her sweet aroma before she sat beside him.
Caroline always looked stunning but Klaus was fairly certain that dressed in dark denim jeans, flats and a Red Sox jersey she was probably the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. Not that he’d admit that given he was a Yankees fan.
“Care to make a wager?”
“Not if you decide this like your defamation suits,” Caroline mumbled. “I mean, a bit of consideration wouldn’t hurt.” Klaus was confused and not just by her presence.
“I’m a lawyer, love, I take all my cases seriously.” She stilled, her blue eyes meeting his curiously.
“But Katherine…”
“And?”
“You dropped the suit because of what happened between us,” she murmured uncertainly. Klaus was struggling to form words, mainly because he didn’t want to admit that he made a professional decision that may have also brought him closer to her after the fact by chance.
“Well….”
“Well…” Her blue eyes were on him intensely and Klaus knew he had no option but to come clean, even if it incriminated his brother.
“I have a big thing for you but as it happens my brother has a thing for your friend too.”
“Huh?”
“Any chance we can discuss this after my Yankees annihilate your Red Sox?”
“Fat chance,” she smiled deviously. “Not sure if I’ll have time. You realise i’m going to rule the fashion world someday?”
“I kind of figured you could do anything you put your mind to.” He took her hand in his, it was surprising to them both but for some reason the competition seemed to fade away and nothing else mattered but them.
