20 Questions for Fic Writers
Tagged by @emryses 💕
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 25, I have no clue how that happened
2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 278,105... wowowow 👀 dis bish is cray cray
3. What fandoms do you write for? Just Stranger Things at the moment! If you really want you can go find an old HP one shot I wrote years ago on Fanfiction.net but I don't really count that!
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? You’re The Ultimate No One Rides For Free [Night Drives Part 1] You Think These People Really Care For You? [Part 2] Take Me On A Night Drive [Part 3] You Give Me Pale Shelter [Part 4]
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Yes, always
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I don't really write angst but I guess the lil spooky 500 word vamp Eddie fic I wrote could be considered an angsty ending since it's open to interpretation Awakened I Have Become
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Strawberries & Cigarettes
8. Do you get hate on fics? No I haven't really! The only annoying things I've seen are people complaining about the smut at the end of the bodyswap fic (You're the Ultimate)
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yes! Must have smut! I'm a fairly vanilla person myself, so I don't really veer into kinky stuff in my own writing. I like sex where the characters are having fun, some silly stuff happening is always good. I love Virgin Eddie & Bottom Eddie, so I write that a lot, but they usually switch it up in pretty much everything I write.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? No I haven't! I think cross overs can be fun but I don't think I'll ever write one.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Nope!! I've seen it happen to friends though and it really sucks.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? No, but that would be so cool! I'm always open to people translating or creating something based on my fics!!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Not yet! But @glitterfang and I keep talking about it!
14. What’s your all time favorite ship? Oh god, my brain is so full of Steddie... are there other ships? hahahaha
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Right now I'm staring at my Steddie dads fic that I started for Steddie Week and it kinda grew legs... I've been feeling guilty that I haven't finished it, I'll either have to keep it short (3 chapters like I originally planned) and end it more abruptly, or I'll need to brainstorm and expand it. but I DO fully intend to finish it! I just feel shitty that I haven't yet and it keeps slipping my mind. We Part To Meet Again here it is in case you want to read it without ever knowing when it's gonna be updated hahahah *cue everyone running away screaming*
16. What are your writing strengths? Oh god, ask someone else, I don't know!!
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Struggling to make time to write, maybe not being as descriptive with settings and clothing as I could be?
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? This feels like such a random question hahahaha, I mean I've read a few where they're in another country and there's a smattering of a different language. It's nice when authors put the translations in the end notes.
19. First fandom you wrote for? HP technically.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written? How am I to choose between my children!! I do really love Night Drives, and all of my other fics. I was really proud of 'Am I Your Fire?' but it didn't get much attention so I'm gonna say that

Reposting this bc the link got messed up when I changed URLs!!
My all time favorite Destiel fics, in no particular order. (More to be added over time) {last updated 10/08/2019}
Too Much TV Will Rot Your Brain by EndlessRain Rating: G Words: 7397 Summary: “Angel?” John asked. He had been in Heaven for a pretty long time, and had been hunting even longer, and he never had heard of angels actually existing.
“Oh for God’s sake,” Ellen said, “That’s your kid’s boyfriend!”
Notes: A short, sweet fic with mostly humor and a bit of angst mixed in. – How (thanks to Gabriel) Dean and Castiel (accidentally) raised each other (and Sam). by Vera Rating: E Words: 69693 Summary: In which, Gabriel meddles with the time line and Castiel becomes Dean’s angel rather sooner than intended.
Notes: This is a must-read, the writing is perfect and the idea is also perfect. Throwing Castiel into the boy’s lives from the start and the dynamic it brings is such an interesting take on the story.
–
Destiel, Actually by Bloodism Rating: E Words: 15973 Summary: Picture your typical rom-com cliché. Now picture Dean stuck in that rom-com cliché. With Castiel. Because that’s what happening to him - a crazy whirlwind of your typical-and-not-so-typical cliché’s. He’s playing the main lead in all of them and Castiel’s his counterpart. Of course, the culprit is obvious. Gabe’s enjoying himself too much, lying back on his favourite cloud with a tub of salted popcorn.
It was about time someone kicked the two knuckleheads into gear.
“And… ACTION!”
Notes: Funny & light-hearted, featuring everyone’s favorite trickster.
–
Angel’s Wild by LimonadeGaby, riseofthefallenone Rating: E Words: 389271 Summary: But that’s the whole reason he’s here, isn’t it? He’s not out here hunting Humans. He’s not even hunting deer, or bears, or anything else that featured in Bambi. He’s out here, freezing his nuts off every night, because he’s hunting Angels.
Sometimes Dean wishes that Angels were like how they’re described in the Bible. How people from time too old for him to care much about thought Angels were messengers and warriors of God, protectors of Humans. He knows that how they’re really described in the Bible is actually pretty terrifying, but at least they were told by God that they’re supposed to love Humans, right?
That’s a thousand times better than what Angels really turned out to be.
Notes: Another must-read. This fic is a huge, long and a bit of a slow-burn but its so worth it. One of the first destiel fics I fell in love with, an immersive AU with fanart included.
–
Things Dean Winchester Loves by tuesday Rating: M Words: 3623 Summary: Castiel makes a list, Sam gives good advice, and Dean takes a while to catch on.
–
In the Shadow of your Wings by Enochian Things Rating: M Words: 57268 Summary: Dean drains his bottle of beer, sets it on the table and gets up, heading for the kitchen. Maybe to fetch another, maybe to leave. But Castiel doesn’t want him to go, doesn’t want to leave this conversation unfinished; he remembers his regret of just a few hours ago, that Dean had never known how he loved him.
“Wait,” he says and gets to his feet as Dean passes by. They’re standing close – close enough that Castiel can feel the heat of Dean’s body, the vibrancy of his soul brushing against his grace. “Dean, I have to tell you something…”
Set after the S11 finale.
Notes: another long, slow-burn. The buildup in this fic is fantastic, dealing with a jealous and in-denial Dean while poor Cas is dealing with his own feelings. This fic is so in-character I can see it happening in the actual show.
– Everything Comes Back To You by VioletHaze Rating: E Words: 32970 Summary: Dean knew better. Of course he did. But Cas seemed so charmed by the antique-filled bed and breakfast that Dean went along with it when the proprietor mistook them for a couple. Telling himself it gave them a strategic advantage to be so close to the crime scene, he agreed to the weekend special she offered them. When the case ended up being a bust, they stuck around anyhow because hey, the second night was free…
Notes: I love love loveeee this fic. Canon!verse with fake/pretend relationship. Dean in denial with mutual pining? Yes please. – Sam Winchester Sees the Light (And Dean’s Awkward Boner Face) by YamiTami Rating: G Words: 2447 Summary: Castiel is falling and he has to start doing human things to save energy. That means eating for sustenance, sleeping, and learning how to use a washing machine. This leads to a revelation.
Shamelessly inspired by a gifset of Misha putting a shirt on.
–
The Mirror by cloudyjenn Rating: M Words: 24568 Summary: When Dean touches a strange mirror, he’s whisked away to one alternate reality after another and it doesn’t take him long to realize the universe is trying to tell him something.
Notes: This. fic. is. amazing. I love reading about AU versions of the boys and this one has plenty of variety. Cute with a bit of angst mixed in.
–
In Your Sweet Little Bungalow by annodominique Rating: E Words: 13680 Summary: All things considered, Castiel has a house. All things considered, Castiel has a life. Without Dean.
It has been seven years since Sam died, seven years since Dean left Castiel, broken and human, and disconnected from humanity. Cas had to cope on his own somewhere along the way. He chose a little town of Oregon to settle in.
Seven years, and Dean shows up at his door on a chilly February night, saying the stupidest set of words to ever be said to Castiel’s face.
“I was–just passing by the neighborhood. Thought I’d drop by…to see you.”
And Cas doesn’t know what to do.
Notes: This fic is so angsty but so worth it.
–
When the Bough Breaks by captainshakespear, deanisthesun Rating: M Words: 73963 Summary: Years after the Darkness has been defeated, Dean and Cas are living the apple pie life in small-town Kansas. They don’t hunt anymore, and would like to keep it that way, but some young hunters knocking at their door have different plans.
Dean, Cas and Sam reluctantly agree to help out, but what ought to be a simple case becomes way more complicated and dangerous than they counted on. And when the hunt starts to invade the normal lives they’ve carved out for themselves and their kids, Dean and Cas begin to wonder if escaping the hunting life altogether might have been wishful thinking.
–
Home is Where by ChasingRabbits Rating: E Words: 15170 Summary: Casual vagrant Dean Winchester blows into Palo Alto to check on his little brother. What is meant to be a quick visit ends up drawing out when he meets and accidentally ends up clicking with Sam’s strange, grad student roommate Castiel.
Notes: non-canon verse AU where Cas has Asperger’s and is Sam’s roommate, this fic is very cute.
–
Out of the Deep by riseofthefallenone Rating: E Words: 488608 Summary: Stay away from the light-beds. Stay in the deep.
It is the first thing hatchlings are taught the moment their fans unfurl and they can swim without their parents to buoy them along. It is the first rule, the first law. It is the beginning of every boogey-monster bedtime story told when they settle against the cliffs to sleep.
Castiel should have listened better.
Notes: I cannot express how much I love this fic. Another huge AU with copious amounts of fanart and detail. Slow-burn, Merfolk AU. I will admit I was hesitant to read this at first as I don’t usually like mermaid/merfolk AUs but this story is so beautifully written and the attention to detail is amazing. Riseofthefallenone never ceases to amaze me.
–
Going Postal by captainbarnes Rating: Not Rated Words: 6799 Summary: Castiel,
Hi. My name’s Dean, just Dean — that’s all you’re getting out of me.
I don’t really know what else to say, I’m not good at this and I really don’t want to talk much. But it’s for a grade, and I’m already flunking English, so I guess I don’t have a choice.
Your name is weird as fuck.
— Dean
Dean Winchester and Castiel Novak became pen pals because of a school assignment, and they tried not to get attached to one another. They really did. Sort of. Barely.
–
King of the Road by loversantiquities Rating: E Words: 15890 Summary: Contracted out by the local police in Moriarty, New Mexico, Dean is sent to investigate the happenings around a church outside of town, the Angel-worshiping congregation reportedly flocking to the location in recent days. As it turns out, though, instead of snake charmers or devil worshipers, Dean finds an Angel crucified to the cross, said Angel unreasonably snarky despite being tied up against his will.
Turning over Castiel to the authorities, though, doesn’t work in Dean’s favor. With nowhere to go and Heaven having abandoned him, Dean agrees to haul Castiel across the country on two conditions–he doesn’t smoke in the car, and he doesn’t rob convenience stores in broad daylight.
God, Dean might actually kill him before this is over.
–
Rock of Ages by winter_of_our_Discontent Rating: T Words: 7430 Summary: It starts because they need a rock. Not, of course, just any rock, but apparently this particular critter needs an Aztec-style obsidian-and-jade dagger right through its human-teeth-and-eyeball-eating heart to actually kill it.
In which Cas gets a ring, and Dean (finally) gets a clue.
–
So There It Is, I’ve Said It All by PorcupineGirl Rating: G Words: 3898 Summary: “Why, do you have something you need to say to me that you don’t think I’ll like?”
I think I’m in love with you.
“Yeah. I guess so.“
–
Receipts by surlybobbies Rating: T Words: 1391 Summary: He’s about to put the receipt down, no harm done, when something about it catches his eye. Pen ink, on the back. He flips it around and reads:
With Dean. He shared his pie with me. His smile was radiant.
Dean stares. Reads it again. Nothing’s changed.
What? -
The Fourth Wall by entanglednow
Rating: T-E (this is a series so different parts have different ratings) Words: 40,339 Summary: (There’s not an exact summary for the whole thing since its a series of 15 different works but basically the boys discover fanfiction about themselves and things get wild) I can’t believe I didn’t add this one before but its one of my all time favorites! I’ve read it multiple times because its just that good. Lighthearted and funny. This series also includes Samifer which I’m a big fan of (but if you’re not into that each part is appropriately tagged so you can skip over it).
-
Someone Who’s Feeling For Me by ellispark Rating: M Words: 45,876 Summary: Dean sees her for the first time in nearly six years in some no-name town in Idaho, and it's panic at first sight. Lisa Braeden, the one woman Dean ever actually had a shot at a real life with, back from where he buried her in his mind. And her hand is on Cas's arm like it's no big deal, like it belongs there. Cas, Dean's dorky, sweet, badass, angelic best friend, and he's just standing there next to Lisa and not moving her hand away. Dean feels the jealousy rising, and it's not directed where he expected it to be. Because it takes this exact moment for Dean to realize he's in love with his best friend. He's in love with his best friend, and Lisa is looking at Cas like he's the best thing since automatic rifles, and Dean is utterly fucked. Notes: Lots of pining, supportive Sam, angst with a happy ending, the good shit. - Everyone is Trying to Get to the Bar by Balder12 Rating: E Words: 8,111 Summary: Dean still has enemies in Heaven. True!form Castiel to the rescue!
Notes: I love true!form cas fics and this one is written beautifully, the ending seemed a little rushed to me but other than that I really enjoyed this fic.
-
As You Pass Through Me by wannaliveindeansdimples Rating: E Words: 30,548 Summary: Cas has lived in this house all his life... and since his untimely death. The last thing he wants is a new roommate, but it seems he's getting one anyway.
Notes: a wonderful non-canonverse AU with ghost!Cas....but there’s a twist! This fic is incredibly cute and entertaining and makes me smile everytime I read it. There’s a little bit of what could be considered dub-con in a few chapters but before said chapters the author usually has a note at the beginning.

ANOTHER POST WITH SOME OF MY FAV STEREK FICS
I did a post last year with my top ten but I've read many more since then and decided to post another list. I always save my favorite fics and re-read them sometimes, when I posted my top 10 I had like 30 fics saved, now I have 70, so here we go:
Put Down in Words by paintedrecs
This one is a masterpiece. I love long/slow burn fics and this one has such a nice representation of Derek & Stiles characters and a really good plot.
When Stiles signed up for Dr. Hale’s intro to history class, he had two goals: knock out the credits his advisor was bugging him to complete before he graduated, and spend a few hours a week daydreaming about his sexy professor’s salt and pepper beard.
Derek, a few months away from turning forty and not sure when his life had started feeling so damn lonely, had never encountered someone like Stiles before. Bright-eyed, sharptongued, determined to throw Derek’s carefully cultivated world into disarray… and absolutely the last person Derek should be falling in love with.
Be the Life of the Party by Mimiminaj
This one has a lot of funny moments and I love it so much.
Stiles starts working at the movie theater. His boss is Derek.
Cornerstone by Vendelin
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. This one is my favorite blind!Stiles fic, it is amazing. Loved the plot and how everything happens.
Suffering from PTSD, ex-Marine Derek Hale moves back to Beacon Hills to open a bookshop and find a calmer life. That’s where he meets Stiles, completely by accident. Stiles is talkative, charming and curious. Somehow, despite the fact that he’s blind, he’s able to read Derek like no one else.
Wild Horses by thepsychicclam
This one made me want to go after more ranch fics. I love how their relationship is developed.
Derek's a drifter with no home, no destination, and no will to live. Stiles works on his family's failing cattle and horse ranch while all his friends are going off to college. When Derek falls asleep in a random barn, exhausted and half-starved, he doesn't expect to wake up on the other end of the sheriff's shotgun. And Stiles sure as hell doesn't expect his dad to invite the drifter in for breakfast.
Diamonds Are Forever (but flowers are cheaper) by tylerfucklin
I read this one so loooong ago, I need to re-read it but I remember many cute moments and I love Derek here.
His name was Stiles Stilinski. He was older than 21, but younger than 25. His dad was the sheriff and he was a student at Beacon Hills Community College. He came into the shop every couple days; always after three, but never past five. He always said hello to Laura, always bought one bouquet, and always spent five minutes trying to make Derek smile with as many puns as he could come up with by the time Derek handed him his receipt.
Derek may or may not be in love with him.
The Hollow Moon by thepsychicclam
EVERYONE IS FUCKING ALIVE, SAY AMEN.
It's the summer after Stiles' first year of college, and he's working a crappy job and dealing with nightmares and anxiety - but he's okay, he swears. He makes it through most days without too much trouble. Then, a certain werewolf comes back into town. Which Stiles doesn't care about, nope, not at all.
After two and a half years, Derek returns to Beacon Hills with his small Pack. Though he tried to move on, something just kept drawing him back to Beacon Hills, he's just not sure what. Now, he figures he can start building something like a life - but he keeps getting distracted by Stiles Stilinski of all people.
Dances With Wolves by ZainClaw
Two months after the events of the Nemeton, it’s safe to say that Beacon Hills has gone back to the small and quiet town it once was. No animal attacks or strange deaths. No creepy blind man or maniac teacher running about. For the first time in nearly a year, Stiles and his friends can go back to the lives of ordinary teenagers. (Despite half of them not being ordinary at all.) Christmas is coming, and the news of a winter school dance at the end of the semester leaves Isaac terrified and Stiles unbelievably dateless. It’s funny how both their problems are solved by the same person.
Howling by alicuh
This is one of the “derek is always coming in through stiles’ windows” fics. Lots of funny and fluffy moments.
A piece of worn material shoots through Derek’s window. Derek frowns slightly and stands, going over to pick it up. In, assumedly, blood, it reads: STILES' LIFE IS GOING TO BE TAKEN AT MIDNIGHT. Derek rolls his eyes, sighing, and throws it back out the window, going back to his book. // or the one where Stiles life is threatened, so Derek stays with him to protect him and STEREK OCCURS.
487 by Finduilas
COP FIC. It’s just amazing and managed to use most of the cast.
Two years after graduating from the Police Academy, Stiles decides to transfer to the Beacon Hills Police Department, where his father is Chief. But when he gets assigned his new partner, Stiles isn't so sure if the transfer was a good idea. Derek 'Officer Grumpy Cat' Hale isn't exactly his first choice of partner. Then again, Stiles really isn't Derek's first choice either.
The Christmas Sweater Tradition by literaryoblivion
Short one but very cute! I love when the sheriff is involved.
The pack's all set for places to go for Christmas, that is everyone except Derek. So Stiles invites Derek to spend Christmas and the days leading up to it with him and his dad. He just has to be okay with their one firm tradition.
BONUS:
Milkshakes and Matchsticks by entanglednow
Basically: Stiles asks Derek out while drunk and he accepts it. Things get messy.
This is like the pre-credits sequence of every horror movie, he's probably going to be eaten before the main character is even introduced.
You Can Hear It In the Silence by Mimiminaj
Lots of good days, funny moments and Stiles being a little shit.
Stiles focused on Derek’s face long enough to see a flicker of regret flash across it. Good. Serves him right for throwing him against a brick wall.
Stiles felt his back hit said well, and he went limp as Derek worked his coat closed. “I don’t think you can take me to the hospital though, Derek.” The hands stilled. “And why is that?” “I don’t think they allow dogs.” “I’m going to kill you.”

Fav sterek fics?
I have 402 bookmarks on AO3, how do I choose favorites?! I guess I can try ; ; here’s my pathetic attempt at a sterek rec list (fics added as I find them in my bookmarks, not by favorites):
The Boy and the Beast by Dira Sudis (dsudis) [116k, M]
In which events in Beacon Hills go rather differently from the start, and a Beauty and the Beast (ish) story ensues. (Scott is not a teacup and no one sings about their feelings.)
Safety in Silence by Survivah [66k, M]
It’s perfectly understandable. Even Derek wouldn’t want to be Derek’s soulmate.
Easy Trouble by Survivah [55k, M]
Derek+Stiles+fairies = love spell
“Make love to me,” Derek demands.
What.
Where The Inevitable Isn’t by Survivah [41, M]
Stiles has a magical thingamajig that’s supposed to get him out of danger. Trouble is, it took him really, really far out of danger. Like, to the point where he isn’t in the same universe anymore.
“A part of Stiles had been thinking that he’d come home, and just go, ‘hey, Derek, are we mates and you just haven’t said anything about it?’ and Derek would reply, ‘now you mention it, we are indeed! Now come to my bedchamber, where we will have super hot sex and then cuddle after!’”
A Simple Life by Survivah [13k, T]
Derek plans to spend the rest of his life holed up in the woods after Laura dies. Then he meets a stubborn young fox, and the stubborn young fox meets an urn of Deaton’s magic powder, and his plans change.
(You) Bring Out the Beast (In Me) by Ember [21k, E]
“Should I make out the wedding invitations?”
Stiles swallowed his mouthful of soda.”What?”
Lydia smirked. “Well, you and Derek have seemed awfully cozy lately. Just wanted to be supportive.”
“Oh, yeah, because that’s exactly why I went into wildlife preservation.” He rolled his eyes. “Beastiality jokes.”
+++
Aka the one where Derek is a wolf and Stiles is his trainer, and then magic and transformations and feelings happen.
Stand Fast in Your Enchantments by DevilDoll, Rahciach [76k, E]
“Stiles knew damn well what a pissed-off wolf sounded like, and every hair on the back of his neck was telling him that somewhere in this room was a very pissed-off werewolf.” An AU in which Derek is feral, Stiles is magical, and they eat a lot of fast food.
The Long Way Round series by exclamation [3 works, 180k, E]
The Moon In Me by dancinbutterfly [16k, E]
Derek’s never had a word for the line his identity walks between male and female so he goes with the default cisgender term. Before his girlfriend queer bashed him, he was really comfortable with that nonconventional sense of self, embraced it, loved it. Now traumatized he’s pulled away from the person inside and hid in the stereotype male facade except for in the most private of places with the closest of family. Stiles, home from school to take care of his dad, may be the first person in a decade Derek can be the real Derek with. It’s dangerous because Stiles wants that Derek, he really does.
Open the Door by Renay [24k, NR]
Derek gives Stiles his jacket.
The Sanctuary by chase_acow [24k, E]
Stiles runs away during his first heat, right into the waiting and ambiguously scary arms of the Alpha’s nephew, Derek Hale. He doesn’t have any choice except to submit, but along the way, he digs up a mystery that threatens his family and even the town’s safety.
Best Thing by 74days [59k, M]
In a world where the supernatural is widely known, The Others (or werewolves) are treated like Royalty. Every year, they pick a handful of people from nearby towns to Serve - unpaid. Stiles was one of the ‘lucky’ ones to get picked, although he’s not very happy about it…
Black Out Days by Stoney [12k, T]
Myocardial contusion: literal crushing and bruising of one’s heart.
There’s an accident. All Stiles can remember is how the handsome guy sitting next to his hospital bed makes him feel. And that the accident happened at a wedding. Which means…
Bodice Ripper ‘Verse series of unrelated works by Stoney [4 works, ALL INCREDIBLE !!!!!, 48k, E]
Trust Fall by Stoney [144k, E]
Stiles is fairly certain that a case could be made for every bad thing in his life coming back to Peter Hale. This time it’s pissing off a powerful witch, who retaliated by swapping Stiles and Derek a la Freaky Friday, because sure. That makes sense. Um, there are GPAs on the line, not to mention the whole thing where his dad wants to shoot Derek on sight. Except who he sees as Derek is actually Stiles, and Stiles did not sign up for filicide.
Great. Wait…does this mean he’s the Alpha until they figure this out? Holy. Shit.****
Derek had stood in front of the bathroom mirror for a few minutes trying to control the panic as he saw himself as Stiles. As the loud mouthed human friend of the pack. He was going to kill Peter. He was going to kill the witch, then he was going to kill Peter. Maybe even resurrect him again just to kill him all over.
They were going to have to play this cool. They would have to stay calm and focused. Which is of course why the universe threw him into this situation with someone who physically couldn’t be calm and focused.
Of course.
Red Against the Snow by Ember [34k, E]
Little Red Riding Hood isn’t just one story. People are mistaken about that. Hell, Grimm wasn’t even original about it. The first guy to publish it was actually Charles Perrault, a french writer who wrote shit for the Louis XIV’s court. And damn, there was nothing subtle about it.Stiles is trapped for the holidays in the cabin of a strange man/hermit named Derek. A strangely friendly wolf befriends Stiles during his stay. It’s up to the teenager to find out why Derek has secluded himself from society, what the feelings he’s beginning to have means, and what the connection between the mysterious man and the mysterious black wolf is.
Settle Down by wearing_tearing, whatthehale [153k, E]
Stiles is a struggling author barely making ends meet.
Derek is a successful architect whose biological clock is ticking.
Enter a surrogacy agency, two packs, and a particularly sticky and toe curling heat week and you get a match made in heaven.
To Have Outlived the Night by stillane [23k, M]
Derek steps away from the window. “You helped me. They took that as a declaration.”
Every Step You Take by Nokomis [49k, M]
Stiles accidentally ends up magically bound to Derek. It’s super.
The Love You Save (May Be Your Own) by Nokomis [17k, T]
Everyone falls magically in love with Stiles. Well, except for Derek, who is suspiciously immune.
[Not!Fic] Random Craigslist Missed Connections Derek/Stiles Not!Fic of Doom by fire_juggler_writes (fire_juggler) [17k, T] also the AMAZING podfic you can find here!
An AU in which Stiles is lonely and addicted to the Missed Connections page on craigslist, Derek is a hermit with a persistant sister, Scott gives unexpectedly good relationship advice, and it all ends happily-ever-after.
DILF by twentysomething [30k, E]
“Today is Scott’s first day of kindergarten and Derek is terrified.”
Important Things by suzvoy [71k, M]
Stiles learns that even with werewolves, giant lizards and psychopathic hunters on the loose, life can still find other ways to screw with you. Case in point: everyone keeps assuming he and Derek are a couple. What the hell?
We Got Something Magic by alisvolatpropiis [50k, E]
Scott is never bitten, so Stiles never meets Derek or learns about werewolves. He is, however, since a young age, captivated by a recurring dream of a beautiful, red-eyed wolf that he comes to hold dear to his heart. After college, he moves to Seattle and decides to get a tattoo to acknowledge his dream Wolf, finding a lot more than he expected at Triskele Tattoo.
In which Derek is a tattoo artist and a good alpha, Laura is alive, and Stiles and Derek share each other’s dreams.
cast our fevers in stone by nagia [64k, E]
What if fate twisted the other way?

The thing is, most of it’s been done before. People competing for money, or love, or fame - it’s all boring, it’s all been done, has-been, seen before, who cares? Until some motherfucker finally realized - you know what’s really interesting?
Revenge.
Dystopian AU where fame is the name of the game. Sometimes revenge is the quickest way to the top, and Derek Hale has plenty to avenge - Stiles is just along for the ride.

It’s six-thirty in the morning, but there are warm lights behind the floor-to-ceiling, de-boarded windows, and the 'For Sale’ sign on the door has disappeared along with Stiles’ memory of where he’d been headed just moments before. The coffee shop is, apparently, open for business once more.

So far, college has taught Stiles three things:
1) Eight am classes are cruel and unusual and should be avoided at all costs, even if it means having to enroll in something truly hideous instead, like Econ 101.
2) Dorm security is just as tight as Stiles’ orientation leader had promised it would be, and the dude guarding Scott’s dorm in particular does not respond well to bribes.
3) Mrs. McCall clearly had no clue what she was talking about when she’d insisted that Scott and Stiles needed to branch out and room with strangers, so it’s all her fault that Scott ended up with a total dick of a roommate and Stiles got stuck all the way across campus with some guy who has a girlfriend two towns over and is thus never around.

“I’ll pay you,” Derek says, and that… that has Stiles interested. Alf’s Antique’s may be a great job, but it’s not a high-paying job, and half of Stiles’s tuition is coming from financial aid, so…
“How much,” Stiles asks, “are we talking here? Because I know your family, dude. And it’ll be kind of awkward after.“
“My family thinks you’re some sort of fucking gift to the world,” Derek seethes, like he’s jealous, “they’ll probably be pissed at me when we break it off, so don’t worry about that. Five hundred bucks.”
“A thousand,” Stiles says, because screw ethics. Also, the Hale family is loaded. Derek can deal.

our lives are changing lanes by grimm [47k, E]
There’s a lot of screaming going on inside the first house Stiles visits. He isn’t really worried, because it sounds like kids, but then the door opens and hi, says his dick, because the dude in front of him is gorgeous, built like a god with a face like thunder. Stiles wants to lick that solid jaw line. Hold the fuck on, says his cop brain, because the dude’s got kids hanging all over him; one’s on his back, skinny legs looped around his waist, and another two hanging off one arm, toes barely brushing the ground. There’s a tubby toddler clinging to his leg like a koala, and he’s got a baby tucked into the crook of the one arm that doesn’t have kids hanging off it. Stiles’ mouth drops open.
“How many of those kids did you kidnap?” he asks before he can wrangle his brain into submission.
The man gives him a look that says what the fuck is wrong with you and snaps, “You think I’d subject myself to this on purpose?”
“Oooh,” says one of the kids hanging off his arm. “I’m telling Mom.”
What I Did On My Summer Vacation by grimm [118k, E]
There’s something weird about Beacon Hills that Stiles can’t quite put his finger on. The way everyone in town knows his name the day he arrives. The way they insist the melancholic howling that echoes through the forest every night is just a dog. The way his dad denies getting a dog, even though Stiles comes home to find one sprawled across his bed, some big black thing whose eyes gleam red in the right light. The way that massive oak tree out in the woods vibrates under his touch, pulsing with sickly life.
There’s something weird going on in this town, and Stiles is determined to get to the bottom of it.
Cornerstone by Vendelin [83k, E]
Suffering from PTSD, ex-Marine Derek Hale moves back to Beacon Hills to open a bookshop and find a calmer life. That’s where he meets Stiles, completely by accident. Stiles is talkative, charming and curious. Somehow, despite the fact that he’s blind, he’s able to read Derek like no one else.

There are times when he feels as if they could fall into bed together, easy as breathing. If Stiles were not highborn, if he were an omega without connections, Derek would be sorely tempted. As it is, he resists. Derek wants, he yearns, but he resists. Still, the sight of Stiles in his cot is enough to test him, even now that it is familiar. At the end of each lambing season, he sleeps for a week, worn down by months of hard work, of relentless struggle. He doesn’t know how he’ll feel by the time Stiles leaves, how he’ll feel after long days and longer nights spent resisting the insistent tug of Stiles’s scent and the inclinations of his own foolish heart.
All Derek wants is to get through the lambing season with his body and spirit intact. He had thought that the blizzards would be the main danger, not a highborn omega with beautiful eyes and a stubborn streak.

Well, if Marty McFly can do it, so can Stiles Stilinski. All he has to do is get Derek and Paige to fall in love before he gets pulled back to his own time. And before he makes anything worse. That’s easy as pie, right? Right?
Enemy Lines by qhuinn (tekla) [149k, E]
This is the story of werewolf Derek Hale and human Stiles Stilinski: two people who grew up in the same town but completely different worlds, their realities split by the war between men and wolves.
Years later when Derek returns to Beacon Hills, he does it as Alpha of a military pack on a mission to capture those responsible for the region’s resistance. With his main objective, Sheriff Stilinski, out of sight, he settles for the next best thing: his son, Stiles.
Neither of them suspects they’ll need to trust each other if they want to make it out this alive.
Hello, Heartbreaker by astoryaboutwar [18k, E]
It’s a popular joke among Alphas: fuck an Omega, get heartbreak on your hands. Omegas are fragile little emotional things, needy and whiny. Stiles refuses to become that, or to believe that he’s anything like that.

Kate Argent had a lot of secrets, some of which she took to the grave. When one of them shows up on Chris Argent’s doorstep in the form of Kate’s five-year-old daughter, it’s not long before more to come to light – namely, that Kate’s crimes against Derek Hale didn’t begin and end with the murder of his family. It’s no surprise that as soon as Derek learns about his daughter’s existence, he decides that nothing will keep him from claiming the only family he still has in the world. Stiles finds himself firmly in the middle of the Hale-Argent family drama, slowly growing more certain of his feelings for Derek and ever more sure of the inevitable heartbreak they’ll bring.

Scott smiled his easygoing smile and nodded, which told Stiles no, he hadn’t misheard a damn thing.
After seven years of lengthy negotiations, the treaty between the Hales and the Argents has fallen apart and the two countries fell into war.
Months later, there’s an uneasy truce, thanks to the intervention of King Scott McCall, but it won’t last. In a desperate attempt to maintain the peace, the Hales sign a treaty with the McCalls to marry Prince Derek to Prince Stiles Stilinski, King Scott’s brother.

With or Without You by KouriArashi [62k, T]
Derek thinks that the mating rituals are overly romanticized bullshit, but claiming a mate and defending them from challengers is something werewolves do, and his pack can’t afford to appear weak after the fire. Especially not when Deucalion and his friends are in town for the rituals. Enter Stiles Stilinski, who offers to let Derek claim him so he won’t be overrun at the ceremonies. Nothing goes as expected.

“You know, a series of sounds spoken in a particular sequence that represent my identity, primarily, referring to me?“ the AI – Stiles – answered cheekily, crossing his own arms in front of his chest, mirroring Derek’s position.

The other factors sounded like complete bullshit. Like about Companions having certain dispositions for submission, and a personality built around wanting to please. Fuck that, Stiles was a strong independent man who didn’t need no wolf. Submitting was straight up taught in classes. Don’t talk back, try to reason not argue, never run away when your Mate was in heat. Mate? More like owner. There was a reason Companions were called pets. God Stiles hated it all, the hypocrisy. It was an honor? More like a life sentence.
An AU where werewolves are given humans as pets called Companions, and a very begrudging Stiles is taken in by Derek Hale, much to both their displeasure. And then pleasure. Very, very sexual pleasure.

There’s a boy exiting the doors as they approach. Where Derek is tan from hours outside, the boy is pale except for a few beauty marks on one cheek. He’s dressed in fine riding clothes, and flanked by a guard wearing the sign of the royal house. A noble, then. He’s younger than Derek, but, considering his higher station, a bow would be appropriate. Despite that, Derek can’t help looking curiously at the boy, who’s looking back at Derek with just as much interest. For a moment, their eyes meet - the boy’s are a deep amber in the sunlit courtyard, ringed by long, tawny lashes.
A gloved hand smacks the back of Derek’s head and he instinctively flinches away, hunching his shoulders. He loses track of the other boy as they pass one another, and as he turns to get another look, the knight grabs his shoulder and marches him forward into the stable.
“Keep your eyes to yourself,” the knight instructs. “And next time, show the proper respect to Crown Prince Stiles.”

“Pretend, dumbass,” he backhands Derek lightly on his upper arm. “Pretend like we’re doing as well as our parents want us to and then they’ll be off our backs, right?”
“We don’t have to pretend anything, Stiles,” Derek says evenly, in a tone that suggests he’d much rather be yelling. “We’re literally soulmates.”
“That’s the beauty of it! It’s going to be so fucking easy. I can’t believe we never thought of this before,” he runs his hands through his hair and shakes his head in amazement, grinning from ear to ear. “Holy shit. I can’t believe I just solved all our problems for us, man.”

But, of course, he’s stubborn and prideful and can’t admit to Derek how it’s barely been twelve hours since they officially broke up and he’s already barely handling it as it is, so he just raises his chin in the air and says, “yes.”
The Circus at the End of the World by mikkimouse [91k, E]
Three hundred years ago, the world ended not with a bang or a whimper, but with magic.
Since then, magic has been outlawed, and the world has clawed its way back to some kind of stability, with people and shifters alike divided between living within the walled safety of the Havens, or the small, less protected outposts dotting the frontier.
Derek Hale and his sisters, Laura and Cora, are the proprietors of Hale’s Circus of Magic, Monsters, and Mystical Wonders, known colloquially as the Circus at the End of the World. They and their ragtag pack ride the rails between the outposts and the Havens, performing for those who can pay (and some who can’t). Their circus is a small haven in and of itself, a place of safety for those who have nowhere else to go.
It’s a quiet life…until Stiles Stilinski joins the crew.
The circus has something Stiles needs—a ticket into the Haven of Santa Francesca. His father has been abducted, and Stiles is determined to get him back no matter what he has to do.
But Stiles has another secret, one that puts him and every member of the circus in danger. And if he’s not careful, it could get them all killed.
The Silent Fury by andavs, rosepetals42 [31k, M]
Derek is about to leave, content with the smell of blood as proof that the Fury is dead when he hears it.
A heartbeat.
It’s faint and uneven and even with its help, it takes Derek a full minute of scanning the clearing before he finally spots the small heap that must be the human. It’s down on the far side of the canyon, almost completely hidden by a tall oak tree and–Derek jumps down before he thinks about it.
He knows what he has to do. Furies are dangerous. Furies are fire and smoke and a funeral he barely remembers. He lands almost silently and makes sure his hands are fully shifted into claws and then slowly moves forward.
Pack Wars by miss_aphelion [158k, M]
Scott liked to call it the Great Pack Divide of 2012.
Derek liked to call Scott an idiot.
(Or the one where Derek kidnaps Stiles to teach Scott a lesson, and ends up learning a few things himself)
Leaving Paradise by NARKOTIKA [43k, E]
A boy dreams of freedom, a broken man finds home, and they learn to love in a world where it feels more impossible than water falling from the sky.
These Woods Sigh by blacktofade [80k, E]
Derek and Stiles never plan to start a family together, it just happens. Or, the one where Derek accidentally wishes for a baby.
The Pull of the Tide by miss_aphelion [27k, T]
Stiles appears alone at the doors of the emergency room the morning after the full moon, covered in blood with a deep slash torn across his left side. He’s suffering from hypovolemic shock and barely conscious and he won’t tell anyone what happened—not his hospital appointed psychiatrist, not his father. Not even his pack.
The list of suspects is disconcertedly short. There were only seven others in the woods with Stiles that night: Derek, Scott, Boyd, Erica, Isaac, Jackson and Allison. And none of them remember the night in quite the same way.
(Sacred) In the Ordinary by idyll [78k, E]
The Pack, after college, graduate school and the starting of careers, comes back to Beacon Hills. Nothing’s gotten less complicated after all this time.
In Other Words, Baby, Kiss Me by primroseshows [61k, E]
Stiles has simple goals in life. To successfully complete his secret radar project without getting fired, to get a cottage on the Moon, and to untangle his mess of feelings for Moon Station 3 deputy, Derek Hale. Heck, he’ll even settle for two of the three.
i have always been the storm by stilinskisparkles [25k, E]
“You’re all headed out to Oklahoma in a week.”
Derek snaps his head up, stares at him in horror, “No, boss.”
“Yes,” Finstock insists in a steely voice. “The NSSL have been on at us for a year about some decent exposure, and I think you’re just the team to do it.”
“I haven’t done weather since college,” Derek protests.
Boyd snorts again, presumably because he’s thinking back to the time when Derek and the weather last collided and he…. well, did the guy into the weather for a brief, wonderful, terribly foolish time. But, Boyd needs to shut up before Derek punches him on the nose.
Abominable by Revenant [20k, T]
here Derek buys a secluded cabin halfway up a mountain, meets a yeti and falls in love with Stiles, but not necessarily in that order.
Raised by Wolves and Other Beasts by TroubleIWant [21k, M]
Stiles is 26, single, and unencumbered with any responsibilities. Until his past starts catching up to him, anyways.
-
Derek is standing at Jason’s reception desk, looking the same as he does in Stiles’ dreams except that he’s breathtakingly real, from the two-day stubble to the jewel-bright eyes to the little cow-licks in his hair he always tries to gel into submission. Stiles sees the exact moment he realizes that he can’t get a scent, because his eyebrows flick up in surprise and hurt. In the supernatural community, scent blocking is rude to the point of hostility. It means you’re hiding something.
Stiles has no idea what his own face is doing, but after the slip, Derek schools his into something so tightly composed it seems like an admission in itself. It hardly feels like years can have passed since they saw each other last, except that propped on Derek’s hip, chubby hand curled at her mouth…
Emily. She’s grown into that distinctive Hale coloring; pale skin and dark hair. She has Derek’s hazel green eyes, too. Two tidy pigtails curl above each of her ears, held with red bubble ties.
“Oh,” Stiles says faintly. He’d braced himself for Derek, but only him. “Her hair’s longer.”
I Have Faith In Nights by DaintyBoots [35k, M]
Derek had always thought his ability to pick up strays was a bit of a hindrance. But then he met Stiles.

(1/2) Hey you! I know you are busy and probably have better things to do, but I admire your metas and characterizations and your fanfics (the ones I read so far, but I doubt you disappoint my expectations in any ways), so I want to ask you for some help. I’m writing my first fanfic, but I stuck, because I realized I suck at writing Lucifer.
(2/2) I really love his character, but I don’t have a clue how to put his habits into words. So, do you have any tips for me or any fic recs of awesome Lucifer? (Don’t stress yourself with this ask, just answer when you have time for this AND are in the mood to :) I hope you are having a nice day!)
Hi there - man, this is a really sweet ask, thank you for that! And you’re writing your first fanfic - wow, congrats! That’s awesome!
So, unfortunately I haven’t read a lot of fics including Lucifer - I guess he’s both a hard character to write and also, you know, there’s the whole ‘awful noncon’ aspect to factor in in everything he does, and especially in everything he does to Sam - I fully understand people don’t want to write about him all that much. I really liked entanglednow’ Lucifer (you can find my review here), but their fic was written ages ago, so I don’t know how helpful that characterization is going to be for you. As for my stuff - I usually work in Lucifer here and there [x| x| x| x], and I wrote this meta about him last year when I thought he’d died.
(Silly me - I forgot for a second how Supernatural works.)
Just as a preliminary thing: leaving aside any moral judgements of his actions, I read Supernatural’s Lucifer as mostly lonely and arrogant. I’m not sure what you mean by ‘habits’, but from what we’ve seen, Lucifer seems to spend his days seeking validation and love - or, rather, his own, twisted version of both (then again, no one’s really taught him how to do things the normal way, have they?). Commanding a room full of demons, humiliating Crowley, touring with a borrowed band and even sleeping with Kelly - all those actions, in my view, were carried out for that same purpose. Lucifer always needs to feel strong and in control. With Kelly, he discovered you can get a high from people’s affection, and not only from their fear, but his selfishness prevents him from truly going down that road, because, of course, you can’t control affection in the same way you can control fear. So, again, I don’t know what you’re writing about, but Lucifer will usually be found at the very centre of attention - and don’t forget about his utter disregard for other people’s wishes. He’s childish in that he’s the only ‘real’ person in the universe: everyone else is more of a thing than a being separate from himself.
As for concrete writing advice, here we go (please ignore the teacher voice - seems to be my default functioning mode when talking about anything).
1. Cheat
The great advantage (and the screeching limitation) in writing fanfiction is that your characters are already fully formed. Use this. Personally, what I do when I’m writing someone I’m not that familiar with is - I rewatch episodes where they feature prominently. In this case, I’d probably go back to season 4 or 5 and sit there and drool over Mark’s work - his Lucifer is funny, self-deprecating (which is a lie, of course, but man - it looks so pretty) and most definitely sexy (that’s the other traditional element of his character, after all: Lucifer is first and foremost a seducer).
2. Cheat some more
Something else I figured out the hard way is that sometimes the reason you can’t write someone is because they’re not in the right place in the story. Now, of course this is personal, but I prefer following the characters rather than starting out with a whole story in my head. Like, sometimes I know how a scene should go, and then I find Dean wouldn’t say that, or Sam wouldn’t act that way, or maybe someone slips because there’s snow on the ground and I don’t know where that came from but it gives me what I needed, and hey, now it’s Christmas and the feel of the story is all different but it sort of works?
And if your Lucifer really needs to be there, remember there’s more than one way to put him in. Like, writing from someone’s POV is probably the hardest thing you can do, because ideally you should understand them inside and out; but if you write them from another character’s POV, then your perception shifts, and that can be immensely helpful, because now what matters is this other character’s knowledge, and not your own. Also, Jess!Lucifer will be slightly different than Trump!Lucifer (sorry: Rooney!Lucifer), and so on. And: consider interrupted or stunted conversations, aka God’s gift to fanfiction writers. We’re mostly all dying to know what characters have to say, but it can be very satisfying to have to guess, as well - that way, you don’t have to write a conversation you have no idea how to keep in character and I, the reader, will be punching my pillow and screaming UNFAIR at the top of my lungs.
(The other beautiful thing about this is that the effect can be achieved in a number of entertaining ways: maybe there are spells involved, truth magic or lie magic or whatever, or maybe someone walks in at the wrong moment, or maybe the character simply can’t, or won’t, put his thoughts into words; and here, again, it’s nice to play around with the POV to see which side you find easier to write.)
3. “Love, and do yo what you want”
Last but not least, I think you can’t write anyone if you don’t love them - at least a little bit. I mean, as a rational being, you have every right to despise anyone you want, and most definitely someone as cruel and underhanded as Lucifer, but as a writer, you need to understand your characters and see the world from their point of view. I remember that Tarantino once got into a lot of trouble for saying he understood where Hans Landa was coming from, but the thing is, he was right: if you don’t sympathize with your characters at all, your story will either become a parody or a political rant. So if your problem with writing Lucifer is that you really don’t like him, I think you need to find a way to.
Finally - yeah, so this is fanfiction, but it is also your story. You’re free to add your headcanons here and there. For instance, I like to write angels as connected to one another in a very primal way, way deeper than they are on the show. I like to think Lucifer is still hurting, for instance, because he can feel Raphael and Gabriel’s deaths some place deep inside him, and he can hear Michael’s screams of pain every second of every day, and those feelings, both his and not his, do have an impact on his actions. I like to think there’s something of him left upon Sam’s soul, like a shadow or claim, something other angels can see, something Sam is aware of but pushes down like you would the ache of an old wound. I like to think both angels and demons walk around in a world they see very differently from the way we see it: that they can see one another’s true forms, for instance, that they see human beings as a collection of their regrets and wishes and potential. So these are questions you can definitely ask yourself even if they’re not addressed on the show: is Lucifer ever distracted by his vessel’s muscle memory, for instance? Does he automatically turn on his right side whenever he lies down, because that’s where Nick’s wife used to be? Is he uncomfortable for a split second when he sees a specific make of car, because it’s the car that killed Nick’s parents when he was a teen? Does he like to sleep? Does he dream? The truth is, the show if often inconsistent with this information, so it’s up to you to fill the gaps with whatever you want.
I hope this was useful in some way, and I wish you much joy with your story. :)
