THE LAST TOUCH Poster 🇺🇸~I would love to share more about my personal projects and what I’m doing behind the scenes… So, here is the poster of THE LAST TOUCH, a dystopian short movie I wrote and directed (among other things). It was born in 2018 out of a class challenge my acting teacher Anthony Abeson threw at us. I filmed it then and edited a first “draft” to show it to the class. Then I put it on hold, while developing other projects. The recent worldwide pandemic brought it back in my editing room. Both fascinated and scared by how the theme was prescient… I just finished it a couple weeks ago. I started the process of festival submissions. Fingers crossed. I will tell you more about it in my next posts. For now I wanted to share the poster… 🇫🇷~J’aimerais vous embarquer avec moi de l’autre côté des spotlights, dans l’ombre, où je concocte quelques projets personnels. Voici le poster de THE LAST TOUCH (traduction provisoire: Le Dernier Contact), c’est un court-métrage en anglais, dystopique, que j’ai écrit et réalisé. Le projet est né en 2018, à l’occasion d’un challenge lancé par mon coach de comédie. Je l’ai filmé et j’avais monté une première version à l’époque pour le montrer à mon groupe d’acteurs et notre coach, puis je l’ai mis de côté, alors que je développais d’autres projets. La pandémie récente l’a ramené sur ma table de montage. L’HIFF OFFICIAL SELECTION 🇺🇸~I'm happy to announce my short movie THE LAST TOUCH has been selected to the Spanish film festival: L'HIFF (L’Hospitalet de Llobregat International Film Festival). I just recently started to send it to film festivals and this is the first selection for the short movie competing for the BEST INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM ! And also…..!!! I feel humbled and honored to not only be nominated as a BEST ACTRESS, but also to receive for the first time ever nominations as a BEST DIRECTOR and for BEST SCREENPLAY! I have to say, those nominations feel so rewarding already! The festival in Barcelona - if any friends are over there - is from the 9th to the 13th of November 2020. I’m very honored to be in “touch” with the country that originated dramaturgy, mythology, legends and characters that have been inspiring me since my childhood (Antigone, Electra...); the fundamental roots to our language (I did study in middle and high school!!) and the etymology of my name Melissa :)... The Last Touch on the big screen! 🇺🇸~ Sunday March 7th was a special day for two reasons. As you may know, I got my first short of Covid-vaccine, for which I am beyond grateful. But also, in the beautiful city of Eau Claire, in Wisconsin, my short film The Last Touch, that’s currently on the festival circuit, was an official selection at @midwestweirdfest and screened at the Micon Cinemas on the BIG SCREEN of a REAL THEATER! Nervous face... 🇺🇸~I don’t know if you can see it, but I’m a nervous wreck behind that smile. That was my first panel as a filmmaker, recorded in live conditions, in English, which, you know it, is not my native language. Yes I have a good level after these few years spent here, but when nervous, I even lose my French lol... Thankfully I was surrounded by these talented FEMALE filmmakers, and I was not the only foreigner, Kate Babicz is from Poland. This festival opened widely its doors to female filmmakers (47%), yay for the #womenempowerment, from all over the world! Which is why I’m really proud to have my world premiere at Pittsburgh Shorts 2020. You still have about 3 days to watch the short movies before the closing night on Sunday. My short, The Last Touch, is part of the block: Thrills and Chills 2. Movie Review! 🇺🇸~Humbled and over the moon with this review from Dan’s Movie Report for THE LAST TOUCH. “The Last Touch is dripping with allegorical ideas.” “Hauntingly beautiful soundtrack.” “Mars conveys a sadness, melancholy…” It’s so fascinating how much sweat, work, time, energy, and the many great collaborations we can spend on a project that ends up being compacted and compressed in a less than a 5-minute movie. So when the work is recognized, yeah, I have to admit it… it is a tear-jerker. What I love about this review, is that everyone’s work is acknowledged. "The Last Touch regorge d'idées allégoriques." “La bande originale d'une beauté envoûtante." “Mars véhicule une tristesse, une mélancolie…." C'est fascinant de voir comment on peut passer des heures sur un projet, en solitude et en collaboration avec d’autres artistes, pour qu’au final tout ce travail soit compressé dans un film de moins de 5 minutes. Alors quand le travail est reconnu, oui, je dois l'admettre… j’en ai des larmes aux yeux. Ce que j’aime dans cette critique, c’est que le travail de chacun est reconnu. Un film est un travail d'équipe et je suis très reconnaissante à tous les membres de mon équipe, mais aussi à tou(te)s ceux et celles qui m'ont aidé à le terminer.
