OMG YOU HAVE NO IDEA!! It's been so hard to find inspiration pics for how I've been imagining Eddie in this fic because in all the photos of Ryan with a beard his hair is wayyy too long and then suddenly he drops MULTIPLE GORGEOUS PERFECTLY ACCURATE PHOTOS looking all beautiful and scruffy AND BY THE OCEAN IN A FLOWY WHITE SHIRT I AM THRIVING!

Fuck It Friday

I was tagged by @thekristen999 so have another snippet from the F&F AU!

Eddie finally hits the brakes and they sit there, breathing hard. His heart is still fucking racing, faster than the car, almost like it’s going to come flying out of his mouth and down the street. Buck’s twisted around, staring behind them, an almost-manic grin on his face. “Holy shit, holy shit.” He thumps the underside of the car roof and whoops. This is the moment, he thinks. You’ve got him now. You’ve got his trust. Use it. It’s odd, how for a second, he completely forgot this wasn’t real. “You’re a badass under pressure, brother,” Eddie tells him. “You can have my back any day.” Buck turns those bright blue eyes to him and it’s like being hit by a spotlight. For the first time, all that bravado melts away, and Buck ducks his head down a little, suddenly soft and happy. Eddie’s stomach does something hot and twisting. “Or, y’know.” Buck shrugs, like he’s trying to be nonchalant. “You can have mine.” Eddie grins and throws the car into gear again. “I’d better get you back before your old man yells at me for bringing you home past curfew.” Buck laughs, head tipped back, the long column of his throat wildly distracting.

I gotta say it is a long time since I've had this much fun with a fic, it is truly a feet-kicking hair-twirling delight for me to write. I'm excited to finally have the time to finish it and share it with you all!

I do agree that the pacing of what is going on is a bit suspect in regard to Eddie spiraling, the whiplash in tone is a bit jarring from a writing/viewer perspective. But that can be the nature of triggers. You can be in a very good place in life when the sneak up on you. They come out of the blue and they can set you back depending how developed your coping mechanisms are--or, if you even recognize them. A double of his dead wife--should be very obvious...lol. And Eddie should have made an emergency appointment with Frank, (to be honest Eddie should see a trauma specialist and do some freaking EDMR therapy, because it seems like Frank is just the department shrink, but I digress).

But seeing Kim has obviously been a major trigger and I'm okay that it's so out of left field because that's pretty realistic. I'm more curious to see how it unfolds and if we see Eddie's acting out more hyper arousal symptoms (being super impulsive in this case) or if he just goes into full fledge denial mode of what he's doing.

I am cautiously optimistic because this show likes to pull random rabbits out of hats!

oh no, don't misunderstand me; i absolutely get how triggers like this can come out of the blue and blow up your entire life. my real issue is that if we're in fact headed for a major breakdown with eddie, this should have been something that was hinted at all season to the viewers. i'm not even talking about major moments of foreshadowing, it could have been the little things—eddie constantly bringing up shannon in a way that starts to sound mildly obsessive; him talking about marisol (or even to her!) and accidentally saying shannon's name; his reaction to chris' issues with shannon in the premier not being as measured as it was. idk. just SOMETHING, y'know? particularly if this is gonna kick off some major mental health issues with eddie and it's gonna get dragged out. it's not the kind of thing that should be squeezed into the last 3 episodes of the season. something this big shouldn't feel so jarring idk.

Waves hello! I think you would really enjoy Shōgun. It's such a layered, beautiful drama with crisp cinematography, and amazing cast. They also modernized it from the 1980's version/novel, fixing some of the elements from that era. I kept thought of you while I watched it :)

oh!! nice!! i'm not at all familiar with the the original shōgun—to the point that i did not know it was an adaptation/remake until your ask—but i've definitely been hearing good things about the show! i'll keep an eye out for when i'm ever in the mood :)

How are you doing? Did you get your power and air conditioning back?

Hey! I am staying with my mom with the kitties (pics here). I ran by my apartment tonight to get stuff and the power was on! Then it flickered and went off. So I don’t know if I officially do yet, but hopefully! I’m probably going to stay here until Saturday, and then go home and clean up before taking the cats back home. I need to clean out the fridge and change the sheets and stuff.

Thanks for asking. It’s been a week for sure, but it’s not bad here at my mom’s.

ER…they don't make shows like that anymore. Esp the first 5 seasons, one of the first ensemble shows I felt like knew how to balance the medical dram with the character/personal story lines. Each character really had a time to shine with interesting arcs. .

Carter and Benton were my fav which made the stabbing plot all the sweeter despite the tragedy of losing Lucy.

Truly ER scratches such a specific itch in my soul that no other show can even touch . . . It is just so masterfully done. Carter is my bby and his and Benton’s relationship is *chef’s kiss* Thee blueprint. I’m sorry but WHOMST is doing it like them. God I love them.

I’ll never be over the loss of Lucy because she is one of my all time favorites, but damn was that arc good. I can probably quote “All in the Family” completely from memory.

🤲what do YOU get out of writing?

I love thinking of new scenarios to put the characters in, trying to imagine how they would canonically react. I also just love trying to describe a scene or a feeling or a moment so well that it clicks, that it puts you into that scene.

🌈is there a fic that you worked *really fucking hard on* that no one would ever know? maybe a scene/theme you struggled with?

'Things that go 'hoot' in the night' - I was trying so hard to get it done by halloween and PhD work/lab demonstrating just got in the way and every time I tried to write scenes they seemed to just come out wrong so I had to restart.

💞what's the most important part of a story for you? the plot, the characters, the worldbuilding, the technical stuff (grammar etc), the figurative language?

One i think you also appreciate Kristen is the accuracy, especially medical or chemical/physics-wise. I also love interesting thoughts from characters - their motivations or how they have taken something in and how they process it - how the reader reads that.

Veterinarian. Animals have always been one of my hyperfixations and I wanted to help take care of them when they got hurt or sick.

Yes! I have 11 or 12 I think. Most of them are related to books or just things I think are cool. I'm a little addicted to getting them.

Can't wait to read your new story! I'm so curious how this will play out because in my head I always envisioned Eddie as the Dom character and Buck as the Brian character , so anytime I read a snippet I'd confuse myself! This will be my weekend end treat :) :) Ready for the ride!

I hope that you enjoy it! I'm glad you're excited for it. I see why you'd picture it the other way around since their personalities seem to go the other way, but given the actual plot and circumstances, it made more sense to me that Buck was the Dom character - he has an established family (the 118), he has a sister of whom he's understandably protective - and Eddie going undercover for the sake of his son I felt made him a more instantly sympathetic character than Buck doing it just for a job. It just all fell into place instantly when I put them in those roles and so I hope that it all makes sense and you enjoy this interpretation!

20. What’s your favorite minor character you’ve written?

If we count minor as anyone outside of my main pairing, I really enjoyed writing May and Linda's friendship with Eddie in the Eddie's Finsta fic.

30. Tell us an idea for a longfic you want to write in the future.

I have a Buck adopts a baby fic mostly plotted and scenes laid out that will probably end up being at least 50k, which is HUGE for me lol. It's daunting, honestly and I have other projects and a challenge fic to work on too so I don't know when I'll focus on it but I want to write it.
