Shadow transformations

One small headcanon that I realize I never talked about is how the shadows have limited transformationanal skills. It does not matter if they were born a shadow or was transformed into a shadow, each one has some form of transformation.

There are really two types of transformation the shadows can do. The first is transforming their height. They each have their preference in height but they can make themselves taller or shorter if and when needed. This is to represent how a shadow changes size depending on the time of day it is. The second transformation is the ability to transform their legs into more of a wisp or vise versa. And the reasons one may transform varies!

For instance, during the day Juno will transform her wisp into legs that are hidden by a long skirt. This is to make sure as little of her skin is exposed as possible because of her sensitivity to sun light. However, there are also a lot of reasons as to why a shadow may not transform.

For Bernard he can't go into a wisp form because he is missing his right leg from theknee down. He has a prostethic that he wears that's hidden by his armor, and because he wears his armor all the time you can't tell. Still this does prevent him from transforming as he will not, have enough mass to support himself if he were to change to a wisp form because of his injury. There isn't enough shadow to manipulate to keep him well balanced in a wisp form unless he has a cane. But he rather not deal with that when guarding the gate or dealing with several shadow hounds at once so he sticks to having legs.

Others may stick to one form more often cause of preference or familiarity Alder is a prime example of this. Because he was human before he became a shadow he is use to walking around with legs and thus will mainly stick to that form as it is what he is comfortable with. Over time he did start using his wisp form every now and again but that is normally when he's relaxing or doesn't want to dig out snow boots during winter. Basically he'll mainly transform into a wisp form during leisure time or if he just doesn't want to deal with wearing shoes because sometimes shows are annoying.bjt he'll mainly stick to having legs for the sense of familiarity.

Meanwhile in Eira's case it's so that way she can move around easier. Because Eira has her eyes closed almost all the time she figures out where she is based off the vibrations she makes when she takes a step. This is also why she tends to wear shoes with a hard sole or heel, so that way she can may out where she is better. Like Alder she does use her wisp form on occasion. More so during slow days where there are no challenges going on. She'll open her eyes and use her wisp form for the day.

Every shadow is different, and that's what makes them interesting. Because no two shadows have the same reason or preferences. But they will all agree that having some partial transformation skills can be really helpful at times.

Osteoarthritis. No wonder I feel like hell, this is the confirmation I've been waiting for. I'm fucking old. I've deceived myself for years with botox, told myself I don't look my age, confirmed to myself that I look far younger than the girls I went to school with. In my head these facts are all true. But, "arthritis"? Arthritis. There's no running from it anymore. Frankly, because of this, there is no running at all, anymore. Now comes the time for serious work. Concentrating on diet, excercise and general well being, will now be my focus, as I don't have much of a choice. However, as I've mentioned, the pain and depression of this ailment have driven many of my bad behaviours in the recent past, like "Netflix and Cake" nights. In turn those nights are compounding my problem. And causes more pain. Which depresses me and ..... well you get the picture. Tomorrow "Dimpy" and I (that's what we've named the knee - a cross between dimpley and gimpy), will have to come to terms with starting a new life. A more conscious life, with awareness focused on ways to improve Dimpy's performance and being more cognizant of my age. So, yes, I will read more labels and lose 5 pounds but today, I just want to eat the damn cake.
