Jeffbritta — I really like them they compel me quite a bit! I thought about putting them higher but because part of their whole thing is that they’re the normie toxic hets who are so basic in concept that they work all the way around to be subversive and fun I thought this ranking made sense for them. Also it’s true that the first time I was watching Comm it took me awhile to warm to them but eventually did and then on my second watch through I got real attached. Hand in unloveable hand core. Trobed — they’re great they compel me Geothermal Escapism makes me cry so much. I don’t think I have anything really insightful to add they’re the moment. Abedison — in a lot of ways this is my favorite community dynamic… they are my two favorite characters so that’s part of it. I love them romantically or platonically or queer-platonically, they’re two bisexuals in love they’re lesbian bi solidarity they’re a yuri couple nonbinary Abed rights they’re in a qpr with Troy they’re in a polyamorous relationship with Troy they’re in a fake relationship to cover up identity fraud one if them (could be either) committee and/or a murder one of them (Annie) committed, they’re neurotic freaks who understand each other best and they’re worsties. I did write multiple romantic Annie/Abed fics during quarantine with an account that’s now orphaned. My feelings on them as a ship are less cut and dry than on Trobed and Jeffbritta though hence placements.

Jabed — I also go back and forth on platonic/romantic with them but either way am compelled, a fascinating dynamic and foil ship, the most important relationship of the show in some ways. Critical Film Studies is usually the episode that puts me in a shippy mood where they’re concerned because there are Vibes present in that one.

Brittannie — the thing with them is I find them compelling but mostly from an Annie perspective because I very much read her as having feelings for Britta at points in the show and am interested in what it means for her, I’m less interested in seeing them together romantically in most scenarios except for the Brittannie Carmilla au I wrote one time, that was compelling to Me. Also I do flip flop on how I feel about them if you’d asked me when I first got into community I would have been more enthusiastic and maybe I’ll change my mind again next rewatch.

Frankie x Britta — I remember being into them but I don’t remember the justification much but.. it’s a good dynamic cute first date idea surprise a girl in her car and bond over nihilism in a round about way. There is a balancing effect there.

Finral x Finesse

Finral x Finesse does make sense and compels me to an extent (though I'll admit other pairings for both of them compel me more personally 😅). It's a very sweet ship, and I can see how they would be well suited for each other since they are both very kind, generous, and selfless people. I love the idea of them each getting to be in a relationship with someone who is equally as big-hearted as they are, and I can imagine them being extremely happy together even if the circumstances in which they would be getting together aren't the best. As I've been pretty vocal about, I have extremely strong and very negative opinions about the idea of Finral returning to House Vaude in order to marry her and that kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth with regards to this pairing which I otherwise like and enjoy based on their interactions and dynamic alone.

I just really, really wish this ship wasn't so tangled up in the House Vaude succession drama (plus does she have to be engaged to his brother? Why is that necessary??). It's just so much more complicated than it needs to be and often times very messy and not handled as a well as it should be especially when it's tied to such heavy, life-altering decisions like Finral returning to his abusive home (i.e. it's often played for melodrama and extremely unfunny laughs. It was also introduced really late and don't even get me started about the whole Langris thing...). It's these outside circumstances that really make it hard for me to go all in for a pairing I probably would have enjoyed a lot more under different (better) circumstances, but I do like them and understand people who really ship them and don't mind the handling of the pairing in the canon. It's just hard for me to look past that so I have complicated feelings about it.

Gajeel x Levy

Gah I freaking adore this ship! It's my favorite pairing in all of Fairy Tail no question at all. Their relationship arc was incredibly compelling and was one of my favorite plotlines in the entire series. I went in knowing that they were a canon ship but not really knowing anything about them. Needless to say, I was a little perplexed in the beginning seeing as they had that whole enemies to lovers thing going on, but it was really interesting to get to see how their relationship developed over time and I'll admit I got super invested.

I'm not always the biggest fan of enemies to lovers, but I think Gajeel x Levy is a really great example of how good that trope can be. I love that they found forgiveness and understanding then built this friendship with each other based on mutual respect. Gajeel knew he had to prove to Levy that he was sorry and that he had changed, and he showed this with his actions, knowing that it wasn't enough for him to just say he was sorry and that things were different. I also loved that his character arc, while inspired by Levy and (eventually) his love for her, was also independent of her and was something that Gajeel wanted for himself. He wanted to better himself and to become a man who was worthy of her regardless of whether Levy ever returned his affections, and I found that incredibly refreshing, compelling, and wholesome. I was really rooting for him throughout his entire arc, and the selflessness and devotion he shows not just towards Levy but towards his other friends as well by the end of the series is really moving. I was honestly a little misty-eyed during his incredibly heartfelt and vulnerable confession.

By believing in him and choosing to see the best in him, Levy inspired Gajeel to see himself as something more, something better than he ever believed he could be, and I love that he inspires and builds her up too (like when he helped her during the Tenrou Island arc). They really do have this great dynamic. I adore their banter and the way they balance each other and help each other explore different points of views and ways of seeing the world.

I could ramble about this pairing forever, but yes, I think they make a lot of sense and I ship them so, so much. They're absolutely compelling to me, but I can understand how some people might not be a fan of this ship given its beginnings and the inexcusable actions of Gajeel during the Phantom Lord arc. For me though, I think the series did a very good job of making a compelling slow burn for them and showing that Gajeel really had changed and had become someone worthy of Levy and her love. I am personally very glad they got their happy ending. Thank you so much for asking about them! 💕

Kokogami (Yuma x Shinigami): 10/10 perfect I could just end it there, what the hell do you want me to say, you played the game. You saw them. I love being an annoying kokogami fan, seriously fuck you if you don't like kokogami I hope kokogami haters feel so oppressed and targeted by this statement especially you, you may have deleted your reblog and turned on anon but you will never delete your sins nor be granted anonymity before the judgment of god aka Yomi Hellsmile. Sorry I am very passionate about kokogami I can't help it. Also I'm revisiting MDARC and seeing their first interactions again so I'll probably won't be normal for quite a while. They make me so sad and happy and horny and cathartic I'm not okay. Kokohell (Yuma x Yomi): 10/10 If I wasn't so sad and miserable and tired all the time nowadays I would have drawn them so often alas. Anyway what do I even say. One of the most Yuma ships that ever shipped. Don't mess with kokohell fans there's 4 of us 5 if you count that other japanese person from pixiv/twitter that has stopped making kokohell fanart like months ago. I like bonking the main protags and antags together in nearly all fandoms, aesthetically they slay, their dynamic is already glorious even discounting all the shit I just made up in my head and would be improved 10000x times if we locked them in the Utena Yuri Jail until they finally fuck, it'd actually be so fucked and I'm trying my fucking best to prevent myself from just chewing on my arm right now because arrrrghhrhrh grrr grrrr. Anyway not quite on the level of kokogami but I'm not fucking okay thinking about this either. How could I be . When these freaks exist.

Kokoford (Yuma x Fubuki): 9/10 excellent vibes in a way chapter 3 was the best chapter because it had Fubuki in it and she literally has the power to make any dynamic better. You can imagine Fubuki with literally every single character and it's actually really good because she just has this thing about her that makes everything worth it. Sometimes I remember that one fucking post that said Kodaka normalizes the grooming of little boys because Predator Fubuki wanted Minor-coded Yuma to date her and I get so ma- wait actually I just fucking remembered that scene????? she really literally asked him to consider being her boyfriend in their gumshoe gabs oh my god I am in fucking heaven I'm making it higher than kokofurio actually

Kokofurio (Yuma x Yakou): 9/10 perfect I actually didn't expect to like this one that much. I don't agree with the popular headcanon of him being a "father figure" to Yuma mainly because 1) these are grown ass men 2) i hate the found family trope 3) sure Yuma might call him daddy a few times but father just sounds too formal you know,

Makoyuma (Yuma x Makoto): 7/10 and points removed only because I literally think about it like, once in a year. Like on paper they are mega compelling but unfortunately I cannot bring myself to care or maybe just forgot if I did earlier. Maybe when I get to all the makoyuma scenes on my revisit it'll awaken something I literally have nothing to say right now. For now I'll just say their dates are NOT fucking normal

Kokoxander (Yuma x Fake/Hitman Zilch): 6/10 I saw it quite a few times actually and it's interesting I'd say!! Though it's pretty much impossible (or just weird, lmao) for me to imagine Aide having feelings for, let alone pursue, anyone other than Yomi I mean if I squint there is something there that makes me want to start biting and shaking it around in my teeth. The 2-minute long yaoi they must have had on the train was bizarre and unnerving. In less angst-packed scenarios, like a kokohell au I can 100% see Yomi just introducing his new chewstick boyfriend to Aide and him having to tolerate him which pretty much progresses like. Aide says he doesn't want a new pet guy, Yomi gets one anyway, two weeks later Aide and Yuma found moaning sexually while lighting each other's cigarettes looking into each others eyes in a non-bro way locked in tender embrace anyway I don't know what they're typically called cause like 3 entire people including myself ship it so I made up one on the spot and kinda sounds like some hard drug name. Kokowendy (Yuma x Kurumi): 5/10 I like their dynamic fine actually and I don't really know if that's a common opinion here? The choose your own adventure format was entirely thanks to hekateinhell and monstersinthecosmos and I'm so glad it worked!! Because I have a couple friends with emetophobia and I still wanted them to be able to read it, but also wanted to indulge my sicko needs to make Daniel get blood sick lmao

But I agree that the x-rated version makes more sense for them, that this is a gradual erosion of boundaries and falling into this crevasse wherein Armand won't be satisfied until he sees all of Daniel. And Daniel learns he wants to be seen. Plus the exploration of how much blood can a mortal handle, how much would be too much and give this awful wine spins/pot sick experience? Because if just a few drops made Amadeo see psychedelic shit then a can of coke worth would have to be fucking awful and Armand would know it.

And I am SO excited you were into Daniel going all in on the wound. I was nervous about that because I haven't read a lot of erotic gore in this fandom but man, he's a freak just like Armand, if there was a proper gash he would go to town on it. *pushes two million unfinished drafts of Togami Headcanons to the side* i am going to talk about komaru. i think she's a butch lesbian and every time she's depicted as feminine in fanart my soul dies a little even though butch komaru exists solely in my head. i also think she's really sporty, but i've talked about that elsewhere hehe.

ok i'll talk about togami a little bit. it's 100% projection but i think he's agender. not in a way where he like. actively thinks about it -- even at Full Self-Actualization i'm not sure if i ever see him actually realizing it and actively thinking about himself in that way -- but i just dont think he as any particular connection to being a *man* outside of how it plays into his attraction to other men/his family's expectations of producing heirs. like he just kind of is how he is and doesn't feel compelled to make any particular effort to present as masculine. i could make a joke here about his gender just being Togami, but genuinely i do think that rings true. he's not a boy or a girl but a secret third thing (byakuya togami™️) does this make sense. like. to anyone (<- projecting and insane) whatever. i think he would look nice in a floor length skirt.

i think, Big Terrible Writing Choice aside, i was really surprised by how much i wound up actually *liking* korekiyo? like okay OBVIOUSLY they took his character in a terrible direction but before that when he's just like, a weird little freak? that ruled lol

in terms of characters that i've had full turnarounds in opinion over the course of 2012-2022? i remember not particularly liking/caring about kirigiri, sayaka, fukawa, souda, or gundam when i first read the playthroughs of their games, and now they're some of my favorites hehe. but that's less about me going *into* the games thinking i wouldnt like them -- because in both cases i went in completely blind -- and more about them growing on me like a fungus over successive playthroughs lol

ok. take this with a grain of salt because i'm stalled out in my sdr2 replay rn so i haven't redone the free time events for that game in awhile/haven't done any v3 ftes besides maki's and ouma's because im a hater.

i think kirigiri has really good fte's. i love that she gets a little sillay in them and how subtle her progression from "why are you talking to me" to "i care deeply about you" is. i also really appreciate how the game cutting her off as an option for free time at certain points serves to make that progression feel really natural with the game's actual plot. love you miss kirigiri.

mondo's are really great as well, he's such a fun guy to interact with and him talking about wanting to be a carpenter and loving his stupid tiny dog and being too nervous to ask girls out all add such levity to his character and make it SO sad when he dies. like damn that biker gang leader trapped in a murder game really is just like. some guy in high school :-( i also loved that they brought him wanting to be a carpenter back in dr:s! made my heart soar uuuuugh i love you mondo, sorry i never ever talk about you

that being said i don't think crocodile respected robin, anon. he almost successfully murdered her and frequently if not exclusively undermines her talent and expectations of her because he thought he could get away with it and he almost did only because she was letting him! the fact he treated her in a way that was undermining her only served to further her own perception of herself as someone who did not deserve or want to live.

like it is nice to be compelled by a toxic relationship, and if a toxic relationship wasn't compelling to me to write i wouldn't have previously written this ship as a way to process my own feelings. but crocs a real shithead and nobody has to justify liking or enjoying or finding compelling a toxic relationship ever with any perceived positive qualities. whoever asks you to is a cop.

(A) Less an actual flaw in the narrative as it's just my personal taste, but I really want to know how things would have gone differently if Kalayavan and Abram had grown up less at each other's throats and taken over their father's legacy together. Can you imagine how cooked Winter would be with two Maramas at the helm?

Granted, the ripple effect would be huge (no Maficule, no Uncle Mask to the Mafia young adults and kids, Avan's relationship with Asha could be effected and that as well as growing up in close proximity with their uncle likely would've changed how all the Marama kiddos turned out, the government and military force in Winter would be absolutely screwed so potentially no Orlando or Amilec and almost definitely not Aira, Umbris/Eclipse and Lunamera could've very well never fled to Summer so no Eclipse/Elec/Thorn trio, etc etc etc), so it's almost definitely too great a change to the story. But it still makes me wonder

because I’m not hyperfixating on it rn / have been kind of taking a break from this fandom I haven’t been actively working on or thinking about either of these since like, fall 2023. But:

•Kevin wip. — what I wrote so far is kind of a Drabble but it’s mostly pre canon focused on his grief over Kayleigh, also there’s some pre canon Kandrew in there.

•wanna be the power ballad that (lifts you up and holds you down) — the first chapter of this is on my ao3 (nazyalenskys) and it was originally meant to be 3 chapters but I never finished the second.. I posted it in 2022 so if I ever finish like I said will probably rewrite the one that’s published. But it was kind of a response fic to one of my favorite kandrew fics which I will link later, but the premise of that is essentially the Moriyamas freak Kevin out before his first pro game and a sort of Kandrew comfort sex hook up takes place with Neil’s consent, and I wanted to write a Kandreil navigating the aftermath of that type of scenario. The chapter I wrote was mostly a lot of Andrew introspection and a convo between him and Neil about it, the second chapter I started but didn’t get too far with was going to be entirely an Andrew and Betsy session, and the third was going to be him going to visit Kevin for the first time after this happened. So set of for post canon Kandreil but I was going to focus mostly on Andrew’s feelings and the Kandrew side of it (Kandrew is my favorite Aftg ship if you didn’t know, I love Andreil a lot too they’re definitely my favorite canon mlm ship in any media and I love their arc but Kandrew was what I generally went for when it came to exploring dynamics, they compel me for a lot of the same reasons Adansey do in terms of the divorced energy and the class divide and the fundamental miscommunication that’s interesting rather than annoying, and two chars with control issues as trauma responses having symptoms at each other, and characters desiring autonomy but also being codependently devoted to each other in ways that contradict that… yeah (I totally get the Ronsey-Kandrew and Adansey-Kevneil parallels that are commonly talked about but like. Kandrew-Adansey is real 2 me). • this isn’t really a wip but I did want to mention that I actually first wrote fanfiction on a different ao3 account and started during quarantine, and Aftg was my quarantine hyperfixation (with Community and Legacies which I also wrote for) so I wrote quite a bit at that time that’s floating around but most of it I’m content to never continue with, but there is One I might go back to at some point and it’s this Renee centric fic with some Renee x Dan called Sweet Fascination that was originally meant to be the first in a series about Renee in high school. At some point I might rewrite and repost that fic on my current acc and continue that as a kind of series of introspective one shots. Ty! Well uhhhhh I wanted to make a post but I. typed way too many vulnerable things so I discarded that post

I wanted to say that, I really appreciate the... lived in, let's say, examples of abuse in iw/tv, because when I was younger I always struggled trying to speak about what happened in my family, because all the examples I had to give were so over the top that they sounded cartoonish

I don't want to give examples of what happened to me or in my family, but like... "Why would anyone say that to their own kid?" "Isn't that illegal?" "Well, she probably had X disorder, she wouldn't have done that if she saw a doctor." "It can't be that bad :/"

When I was in elementary school, I didn't want to answer any of these (invasive and inappropriate) questions, at all. But when I got to middle school, I did start to wish that I could bridge the gap, and explain to someone why the word "family" meant fear and resentment and cruelty to me. But it felt like the burden of proof was on me, and I didn't have... photographs of bruising, or text message screenshots. I had anecdotes that sounded made up.

The gleeful sadism and intentional cruelty, the methodical psychological torture, the ways the characters give themselves plausible deniability or withhold the truth or gaslight... Calling C a mistake, her saying "It was never about me, I was just a shingle that flew off your roof!"

Nowadays, I appreciate when there's something in a movie or tv show that I could point out and be like... That, verbatim, was said to me. I watched that happen to my cousin. That's why the smell of whiskey makes me nauseous. That's why cars freak my mom out. The look on that kid actor's face is how I felt every christmas and thanksgiving and easter and halloween. It's not even like I intend to say any of those things; I, pretty clearly, intend to take a lot of these anecdotes to the grave instead of opening up about them.

I just feel relieved that the burden of proof isn't so much on abused kids anymore, that it's easier to discuss. I'm glad we're moving towards this place where we're not expected to filter out our lived reality so we don't make someone else sad. That's what I want for all of us, for future kids in similar situations.

Also because this is this website, I'm not condemning any of the characters or calling them irredeemable or saying that I hate them or anything. I enjoy all of them, I think they're compelling and sympathetic and amazingly dynamic and complex and interesting. Thankfully, I've gotten myself to the point that characters can remind me of my family without sending me into a panic attack. I'm just sayin'... sometimes characters do be reminding me of the vile motherfuckers I share blood with, for better and worse.
