Streetwear brands in collaboration with high luxury designer brands.
Written by Adriana Gallardo
Hello, Adriana here!
As previously mentioned, most of our blog and about 'Lucky Fortune' is solely based on indie and urban brands known for an inclusive target market.
This week we’ll be going through some of our favorite fashion archives of collaborations with brands we’ve been fortunate enough to have inspired all of us.
In 2023, as social media consumers, we start to pay close attention and notice what the future holds for these fashion brands. It's by scrolling through our Social Media feeds and taking notes on what is trending. We start to notice high fashion brands collaborating with brands with streetwear brands. It's interesting, because these urban brands may have less exposure and sold at a low price point. We can understand what these collaborations may do for the consumer. It may convince them to invest themself into a limited edition item and be the first to have it. Let's talk about it.
Moncler Maya 70 by Palm Angels® FALL 2022
Source: TikTok @kyonamy
Thought we've seen it all? When this collaboration dropped, it seemed to have light up the consumers world with new and behold features this down-filled jacket had to offer.
This collaboration became available to the public and website October 15, 2022 on moncler.com.
Francesco Ragazzi is the founder and designer of Italian streetwear brand Palm Angels. Ragazzi was working for Moncler in 2015, eventually becoming its creative director later in 2018.(BoF)
“We worked with an optic fiber that lightens up. For me, metaphorically, this meant to shed light on the future, literally putting the spotlight on it.” In order to illuminate Moncler’s future, Ragazzi worked with the brand’s technical expertise, as the technology used in the jacket. (HighSnobiety)

Gosha Rubchinskiy x FILA 2017
Here we have Kendall Jenner seen in Gosha Rubchinskiy x FILA graphic t-shirt in Paris fashion week.
Kendall is an example of someone that we define her style as 'urban streetwear'. She has the look of someone who didn't try hard to throw on a chic, but casual outfit and is ready to walk the streets confidently.

Supreme x Louis Vuitton FALL/WINTER 2017
The whole world was shocked when the American clothing brand Supreme, known for skate-wear, teamed up with Louis Vuitton and made its way on the runway. Louis Vuitton x Supreme crossbody bag as seen on Hailey Bieber.
Source: https://www.teenvogue.com/story/jaden-smith-hailey-baldwin-supreme-x-louis-vuitton-matching
Supreme x Burberry SS 2022
We may know now, this isn't Supremes last collab with high end luxury designer. We are seeing this become a trend for both iconic brands, every couple years with little marketing schemes behind it. What we do know is that, we are only able to get our hands on these drops by buying resell these days. As soon as it drops on Supremes website, it is sold out within minutes.

DIOR x STÜSSY FALL 2020
During the Pandemic we were still seeing fashion runway shows being celebrated into more for comfort, practicality, but for style as well.
Two creative brands and our personal favorite.

VETEMENTS x Canada Goose FALL 2016
An unexpected collaboration that made into the runway was VETEMENTS x Canada Goose
It is awesome to see a European brand like VETEMENTS to have reworked the down-filled puffer jacket and make it couture with a brand made for only specifically for outerwear.

Coach x BAPE FALL 2021
We have Hip-Hop artist, Megan thee Stallion, taking glamour shots for the Coach x BAPE campaign.

Louis Vuitton x OFF-WHITE x NIKE SPRING 2018
In 2018, we started to watch Nike launch collaborations with big name brands, ever since Nike brought back the Jordan 1's back.

Maison Margiela x GENTLE MONSTER SPRING 2023
Believe it or not sunglasses will always be a part of luxury fashion as well as for everyday use. Why not mesh both styles into a pair of fabulous eyewear for all.
GENTLE MONSTER is a Korean eyewear brand founded by Hankook Kim in Seoul, Republic of Korea in 2011. This brand is able to execute and create high-quality eyewear at a reasonable cost. (Showstudio)
This year we have an upcoming collaboration with European designer brand, Maison Margiela and GENTLE MONSTER. This collaboration is giving us blue light protection for the eyes, as well as various frames and shapes to choose from for style.

Moschino x Palace 2020
What is more to come from high fashion brands?
We are totally seeing clothing become inclusive for men and women. We love to see urban clothing worn as unisex. Here we have a Instagram post of Jeremy Scott, creative designer of Moschino wearing his two-piece set collab with skate-wear brand PALACE. (Photo on the left)
We have the same outfit worn by Russian model Irina Shayk in New York City casually strutting outside. Worn with a white crop top and a statement orange handbag. (Photo on the right)

Goodbye Virgil Abloh
By Elsa Perez, Nicolas Gandziri and Augustin Daubannay
Virgil Abloh, born September 30, 1980 in Rockford and died November 28, 2021 in Chicago from cancer, a cardiac Angiosarcoma, which he had been secretly fighting since 2019.
He was an American multidisciplinary designer with multiple interests. An architect by training, he was a fashion designer, men's artistic director of Louis Vuitton, founder of the Milan-based brand Off-White, and used to mix luxury and streetwear. He is also a designer, disc jockey and for a time the right-hand man of American rapper Kanye West. He’s well known The Off-White x Nike The Ten capsule collection celebrates the brand's iconic models, which the designer has revisited28. The collection is divided into two themes: "REVEALING" where the reworked models are the Air Jordan 1, Nike Air Max 90, Nike Air Presto, Nike Air VaporMax and Nike Blazer Mid, and "GHOSTING" where the designer's touch is brought to the Converse Chuck Taylor, Nike Zoom Fly SP, Nike Air Force One Low, Nike React Hyperdunk 2017 and Nike Air Max 9729 trainer model. Virgil Abloh said he wanted to "highlight the perfection of Nike's manufacturing and design system "30 through this collaboration. He also designed a pair of Off White x Nike Mercurial Vapor for Kylian Mbappé for the 2018 League Cup final in the early 2000s, he became an artistic consultant for Kanye West, advising the rapper in particular on his record sleeves and the set designs for his concerts. King of luxury streetwear, he had established himself in a few years as one of the coolest designers. His trademark? A style reflecting the street culture, with his trainers and sweatshirts, but also an easily recognizable logo, made of black and white oblique stripes. He also made a name for himself with successful collaborations with Nike, Jimmy Choo, Moncler and Ikea, as well as with rappers. In 2012, Virgil Abloh also created his first label, Pyrex Vision. It was the LVMH group that announced his death on social networks. "We are shocked by this terrible news. Virgil was not only a genius designer and a visionary, he was also a beautiful soul and a man of great wisdom. The entire LVMH family joins me in expressing its deep sadness. We are all thinking of those who loved him, who have today lost a husband, a father, a brother, a friend", announced Bernard Arnault, Chairman and CEO of the LVMH group. A lot of celebrities paid tribute to the death of Virgil like Kendall Jenner, Drake, the Migos ...

The coolest way to stay warm: why we’re all in quilted jackets
They used to be reserved for ski slopes and the school playground but now the quilted coats originally known as Puffa jackets have been embraced by the masses. In 2018 the search engine Lyst, which features 12,000 brands and retailers, reported a 59% year-on-year rise in searches for them, declaring them a global bestseller.
Their popularity chimes with the rise in sportswear and “normcore” – the trend that sees designers mining everyday items to drench high fashion in irony. Where once hiking boots were functional footwear and anoraks were most commonly associated with trainspotting, thanks to big-name brands such as Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton, they are now two of the trendiest items to own.

With quilted coats, the reason for increased sales lies largely at the door of Italian brand Moncler, which has redoubled its efforts at making the aesthetic relevant to a new generation through a series of high-profile collaborations.
Last February, Moncler launched its Genius project, for which a group of the world’s most influential designers – including Simone Rocha, Craig Green and Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli – created capsule collections blending their style with the technical expertise of the brand.
Aimed at targeting a growing appetite for newness from global consumers who increasingly – and impatiently – absorb trends through social media, each collection became available in highly publicised monthly “drops”, rather than being traditional seasonal offerings.

Virgil Abloh: An Influence beyond Fashion
“Virgil Abloh had a unique curiosity and passion that inspired his life, his creativity, and his dreams. It is a shock when someone so young and with such powerful talent is suddenly taken from us. My heart goes out to his wife, his children, and all his family whom he loved so much.” – Ralph Lauren
The world was devastated at the demise of Virgil Abloh. The designer, aged 41, was battling a rare form of cancer, known as cardiac angiosarcoma. Fashion and design owe a lot to his relentless curiosity and creativity. During his last days, he held the Artistic Director role at Louis Vuitton and was also the Chief executive officer of the Milan-based fashion house he founded in 2021, Off-White.
Who is Virgil Abloh?
Abloh preferred to see himself as a “maker” rather than being categorized as a designer or a DJ. As a teenager, he started DJ-ing house parties, moving to co-found Been Trill. It was a DJ and a streetwear collective based in New York. His music was well followed by a lot of people. He has played in prominent music festivals like Lollapalooza, Tomorrowland, and Coachella. In his recent career periods, he also made soundtracks for his runway shows, often releasing them to SoundCloud after the event.
Virgil Abloh learned to sew at a very young age from his mother, who was a seamstress. He was raised in Rockford. He went on to graduate with a Bachelors's in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin and a master's in architecture from Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). During his time at IIT, he became inspired by a campus building that was designed by Rem Koolhaas, who worked with fashion brands like Prada for runway shows. His first design work was for The Brilliance, a popular blog, making t-shirt designs.
Virgil’s Rise to Fame
Virgil’s career took a turning point when he met Kanye West in 2009 during an internship at Fendi. They started to collaborate and worked on many projects. Abloh and Kanye’s artistic partner launched Don C launched a retail store called RSVP. The store got famous for its interior and the signature apparel they sold. A year later, West appointed Abloh as the creative director for his creative agency, Donda.
With West, he worked on various projects as a creative director like the Jay Z and West album Watch the throne.
Off-White & Virgil’s Mainstream Success
In 2013, Abloh founded his first fashion house with the high-end streetwear brand Off-White. The company was based in Milan, Italy. With the help of the New Guards Group, he launched the brand in various parts of the world like Japan, China, Tokyo, and the United States. The brand had unique identifiers that set it apart from others. This includes quotation marks, zip ties, capital letters, and barricade tape.
He later launched his furniture arm called the Grey Area in Japan. By 2018 the brand had surpassed the likes of GUCCI in sales and sentimental value.
Notable collaborations
2017 – Partnered with Nike to release revised versions of the company’s best-selling shoes.
2018 – Collaborated with the Swedish furniture company IKEA to design furniture for apartments.
2018 – Appointed as the Artistic Director of Louis Vuitton, making him the first person of Africa descent to lead the brand’s menswear line.
He also partnered with Rimova, Mercedes Benz, NBA, Levi’s Moncler, Jimmy Choo, Kith, Timberland, and Byredo.
Abloh also worked on Hailey Bieber’s Off-White wedding dress and veil that read “Till death do us part”.
Directed music video for ASAP Rocky and Lil Uzi Vert’s XO Tour Life.
And last but not least, Drake’s plane that he had Abloh customize with an ethereal blue sky and cloud pattern.

Five Roblox creators were nominated, with the in-app clothing store cSapphire coming out the winner. The presentation of the award will play out inside a Roblox experience, with a virtual representation of Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele doing the honors. Companies like Roblox have been doing a metaverse long before Facebook decided to jump in. With the award, the BFC has acknowledged that virtual spaces can be a fun way for both consumers and designers to explore fashion ideas. Roblox previously worked with Gucci on a collection, and we've seen labels like Moncler Louis Vuitton inside Fortnite and other games. Creative Instagram Influencers And Bloggers With Quality Photography And Design Aesthetics
Instagram is the world’s most dominant platform for influencer marketing—it’s estimated that the Instagram influencer marketing industry will reach $2 billion by 2019. The social media platform boasts over 1 billion users, making it a powerful beacon for consumer brands.
Instagram is home to an untold number of social media influencers who create content for every imaginable niche. It’s difficult—for both brands and creators—to stand out in this very crowded space. The trend-based nature of Instagram content can cast a generic “sameness” over your Instagram feed, to the point where it can be difficult to identify any distinguishing quality of a specific influencer.
The most creative Instagram influencers establish themselves as not just a tastemaker, but a distinct brand that expands beyond the individual. Extraordinarily creative influencers have cultivated a unique aesthetic to truly make their mark on Instagram.

How Working With Creative Instagram Influencers Benefits Brands
Creative influencers are visionaries.
Creative Instagram influencers are true artists with a one-of-a-kind vision. Brand partnerships flourish when the influencer takes the lead, with minimal brand interference on creative direction. Sponsored posts benefit from the imaginative nature and unique perspective of the creators.
Says Adam of I AM GALLA of brand activations, “It took me 7 years to realize that I'm more creative so if a brand doesn't allow for us to have our own creative direction then it's probably not a match made in heaven.”
Creative influencers don’t follow trends - they make trends.
As Instagram becomes increasingly saturated with influencers, it becomes increasingly difficult for any content to stand out. Many lifestyle bloggers chase trends and churn out similar content with little distinction (i.e. latte art).
Creative Instagrammers can deliver original content in part because they’ve gained success through cultivating their own iconic style. Nick of the Scran Line explains, “Trends come and go. I don’t bother with them to be honest. It’s not my style.”
Many influencer accounts feel superficial because the influencer themselves doesn’t allow their depth as a person to shine through. The most successful creators allow themselves to be vulnerable by sharing real feelings and taking artistic risks. Their distinct style comes as a result of expressing their personal worldviews through their content.
Creative influencers have passionate, engaged followers.
Creators attract followers who connect deeply with their content based on similar taste or interests. This passionate fanbase translates into a highly engaged following. This engagement goes beyond the normal social media interactions (e.g. likes, comments, shares).
Fans of cooking or DIY influencers will recreate their recipes and projects, which shows a deeper level of engagement that transfers off of Instagram and into real life. Brands aspire to this type of action when engaging a creator to plug their product.
In an interview, Jane Aldridge shared how her passion for vintage clothing has fostered “so many special relationships with the vintage community, and being part of that is just the thing that makes me happiest.”
An engaged online community translates well to real-world activity, from product sales to event attendance to mobile app downloads.
Creative influencers are storytellers.
Instagram can seem to be dominated by style over substance. This isn’t the case for highly creative Instagram influencers, who infuse their content with a narrative and backstory.
The majority of the influencers on our list maintain blogs, which is becoming increasingly rare as it’s simpler to build a following on Instagram alone.
“I find my blog is really important for me to develop my own plot line and what's inspiring me, and I wear so much vintage that truly there are so many stories with the outfit that I'm wearing and what goes into them,” says Jane Aldridge.
Sponsored blog content benefits brands because it has a longer lifespan. Instagram posts will fade from users' feeds within days and Stories disappear within hours. Blog posts will attract organic traffic from search engines in perpetuity. A blog posted years ago will still attract users seeking out information about a specific brand.
Creative influencers care about their craft.
Highly creative influencers have been honing their craft for a long time. Brands benefit from the painstaking detail that creators will put into producing high-quality content. Their creative drive makes their content highly personal and raises the stakes in terms of output.
Creative influencers invest in their tools, which might mean:
Buying professional grade photography and videography gear
Tailoring clothing to ensure the perfect fit
Hiring administrative staff to take over non-creative tasks
Says Adam Gallager, “I’ve decided to elevate my branding by using only DSLR cameras, Photoshop as opposed to phone apps/filters & overall raising the bar.”
