so. contrary to popular belief i WAS expecting a test tube death, i was shocked it happened so early in 😭 like that’s crazy and TARGETED…. i think there was a lot happening but im kind of happy with the result of all three storylines merging together in the end (hotel, mansion, cobs)

uhh some things i guess? i’m pretty sure it’s not the end, maybe im in the denial but iirc they JUST hired animators and they still have the 2 guest voice actors they haven’t revealed yet soooooo… plus for a finale it was REALLLYYY short i was shocked it was only half an hour

i was glad to see mic and taco make up, and i know people aren’t a fan of it but it WAS kind of a high-stress situation so i don’t really blame them for having it be so anti climactic. HOPEFUULLY they can actually talk after? cobs is such a fun villain and i want to eat his kernels one at a time

the end shocked me i must say… i have guesses as to what will happen next. the shot ending on soap’s phone is definitely on purpose

Uniforms, emblems

NWS has relaxed rulings on uniforms. Boys are allowed to wear whichever shirt they want under their gakuran, girls can choose the color of their scarves. Teachers have their uniform too but Aokiji (probably all teachers) don't really care.

The section below are rejected school emblems proposed by students. Aokiji was lazily okaying all of them but Smoker kept him in line lol

Also I think I like his voice, his semi monotone tone is really satisfying to listen to in my opinion. Oh also I really like the texture of suits/fancy clothes, but mostly suits. I also like suits design wise, I think they’re really cool and versatile. Also mean characters are fun to break down. Oh and his character development is so easy to miss but it was genuinely so good in my opinion, and his backstory makes sense with how he acts I think he’s pretty well written. He’s kinda ugly tho but I still love him. Also he’s really easy to make fun of, I hate to love him and I love to hate him but I love him ❤️.

Jie’s birthday !

This day, one year ago was the first time I created my very first LMK oc, which is also the very first oc I showed on social media. It’s hard to explain but just as the show Jie became somehow a part of my life, she’s living in my head and I like to improve her whenever I’m bored or when I’m having a bad time. The part of my brain in which LMK and Jie are is now my comfort place. I also wanted to thank you all for accepting my oc and me into the fandom, it really means a lot to me, I love you all ❤️

And now something funny- all the designs Jie had till now!

This is the first one, which I draw on 17.07.2023

The design was so lazy but I’m pretty sure I wanted to just create the image from my head. I now realised that the only thing Jie has since the first design is the Jade necklace. Btw, she was supposed to be a fox demon since the start, this is the picture of her human disguise.

Yes, that’s my drawing. I remember how randomly this one turned out. I realised that I’m not a fan of cold colours so I change Jie’s colour palette but for a long time I didn’t even think about drawing her as Lego. Fun fact!- this one was supposed to be an image of Jie for my fan fiction on Wattpad.

Idk why but I tried drawing her with dark red hair for a while, but soon it turned out to be just a phase.

This one stayed with me for pretty long but I thought her design was too boring

Honestly this would be Jie’s design if only my mind didn’t tell me ‘Hey, now both her and Sun Wukong looks like MK’s parents!’ And since I didn’t want to ship my oc with Monkey King I changed it once again but with heavy heart (the one on the right was supposed to be my fanfic cover 😭 Also the first time I tried the Lego style.

And finally… on 06.09. 2023….

My girl got her first official design. I used Wukong’s colour palette but I got tired of it so I changed her design once again and that’s how you got the current one:

Aww thank you! I had a lot of fun drawing short horror comics for the past few years. I got to experiment and learned a lot about comic making. Also it was a nice opportunity to showcase my ocs haha

About Letter for Mimi: It was inspired by a Taiwanese folk practice. The tradition is that the spirit tablet of a deceased women will be placed among her husband's ancestors. Which means those souls of whom were unmarried will have no place to rest, since her birth family won't take her in either because an unmarried daughter is a disgrace(yikes). In order to fix this, the dead woman's family will put her hair(or a sheet with her birthday written on it) and some money in a red envelope and place it somewhere visible or have lots of traffic. If an unsuspecting man picks it up then boom the family rush to surround this guy and he will have to marry this dead gal.

Thus there are many visual clues in the comic indicating an upcoming wedding. And the fish people circling Mimi congratulating her.

Also because it was for mermay I had to throw in some elements about drowned ghost being stuck in the location they died until they pull a living person into the water to take their place.

So in the end Mimi got a mandatory dead fish wife and probably went to live under the sea with her.

So for example, just based on what I know, when Viet names are translated to Japanese, they're either written in katakana, or, if they're Sino-Viet (use Chinese characters), then you can either make a JP reading of the name (if possible with the characters), or write the pronunciation of the name in furigana on top of the kanji.

I learned new things recently on how to translate Vietnamese names to Japanese too.

For example, the unorthodox/non-standard reading that I chose of Selena's Viet name, Nguyễn Nguyệt Vân Liên (阮月雲蓮), is Gen Suzuha. It uses the same characters.

Because I wanted to give Selena a JP alias as well since she travels a lot. The multiple names are for ease when she travels

阮 - Ruǎn (CN), Nguyễn (VN), Gen (JP)

The most common Viet last name Nguyễn is translated as either Gen (阮) or Guen (グエン) in JP

In VN, Nguyễn is not pronounced with a hard English -g like that btw. It's hard to describe unless I make a video but in EN it's pronounced more like "Nwehen" or "Nghwin," said as 1 syllable

Sino Viet = Part of the Vietnamese vocabularly of Chinese origin

Furigana = Furigana are the characters on top of kanji that gives the pronunciation in Japanese.

At first I was conflicted whether to write Selena's name as セレナ (Serena) or せりな (Serina) in Japanese

Cuz I pronounce Selena's name as Seh-lee-nah. Though Seh-leh-nah (JP pronunciation) is fine too

Though these EN names are often romanized/transliterated like this in JP:

Selena: セレナ (Serena) Selina/Serina: せりな (Serina)

I went with the 1st one at first, but I ended up choosing the 2nd one cuz it matches closer to the pronunciation of Selena's name

Selena's names:

English name: Nguyễn Selena (グエン・セリナ)

Vietnamese name: Nguyễn Nguyệt Vân Liên (阮月雲蓮)

Japanese alias name: Gen Suzuha (阮月雲蓮)

The most common Vietnamese last name that about ~40% of Viet folks have, Nguyễn, is written as either グエン (Guen) or 阮 (Gen) in JP. It doesn't match the Viet pronunciation, but it's the closest we can get in JP.

I write my KHR OC, Selena's name as セレナ (Serena) in Japanese, to match the spelling of her name in English, but the pronunciation of the name Selena in English is like "Seh-lee-nah." That's how I pronounce it.

I pronounce XanLena's ship name as "Zan-lee-nah" personally.

Cuz I just checked the Wikipedia pages of famous people to see how Selena is written

I don't mind if others pronounce it as "Suh-lee-nah" or "Seh-leh-nah." That's why I was wondering if I wanted to write her name in katakana to match the spelling or the pronunciation...

Ideas for Selena's name spellings:

セレナ (Serena) → Selena

せりな (Serina) → Selina, Celina

セレーナ (Sereena) → Selena, Serena

セリーナ (Seriina) → Serina, Selina

So any of these spellings could work. English words have stressed syllables, but Japanese doesn't really have that and has pitch accent instead.

Cuz Selena's Viet name, Liên (蓮) means "lotus." In Japanese names, the character 蓮 for lotus is read as "Ren."

So one hand, this spelling ends up being closer to her Viet name. But the other spelling is closer to the way her name should be pronounced.

I've seen せりな (Serina) be used for "Selena" before, because the 2nd is usually used for the spellings, "Selina, Celina," so I went with the 1st one at first. But then eventually chose the 2nd one.

I'm still deciding on it though... Also you can go against the conventional spellings.

Me: The main cast lives in Japan. So, the protag, Tsuna, and his Guardians (Vongola 10th Generation members).

But secondary characters like the Varia, live in Italy, and come to Japan when necessary/for work/for plot reasons. They also like to go to Japan on vacation

Still no writing, and I put the editing on hold because pain is a thing that dominates my life 😭

So instead I decided to decorate my new dining table! It came unvarnished and had the perfect surface for drawing on, so that's what I did!

It gets better, I promise 🤣

I had an idea for a flower lion with the leaves as its mane. And yeah, I was slightly concerned I was about to fuck up my table with bad art but I really wanted to do this. It won't be just me drawing on the table, my nieces and nephews will too. I thought it'd be a fun family bonding thing for us to do and a nice family memento, plus their moms never let them draw on anything at their houses and I'm the "cool aunt" 🤣

Anyway, I gessoed the area I was gonna paint and redid the sketch. Already looks better, right?

Yup, he's pink. Yup, that's my concept design on the seat to the left. I really struggled with getting the shade of pink I wanted. I never mixed paint colours before to get a custom colour, so this was a learning experience.

Yeah, his mane is big. I tried shading the bridge of his nose lighter, but this is also something I never did before. I never really painted much and my teachers only cared about the students who were already good at art and didn't need help, so this is me learning as a go. And I'm still scared at this point I fucked up the table 🤣

This actually took me like a week to do in total, so it was a slow process of painting bits at a time, stopping to see if I liked it, trying to fix any mistakes I made and then taking another break to rest.

Oh look, he changed colour!

The lighting isn't great, but I mixed another two shades of pink, including one metallic and went over him. Don't worry, imma fix the scruffy parts, but this is a big improvement already 😁

Okay, he's a little scruffy still, but that's on purpose. He has a fluffy texture that's hard to see because of the lighting, but it looks better in person. I decided not to fuss further with the colour and blending because I knew I'd fuck up. I saw a good stopping point so I took it. The inner layer of leaves came together quick although I was worrying how I'd do the veins in them. No matter what I do with leaves they always look terrible the second I add the details.

Getting close to finished now. This was the end of last week. I went with a succulent type leaf and left off fine details. He's kinda cartoony looking so I think it works.

Adding shading and outlines in places just to tidy it up, but this is pretty much done. Pics are kinda bad, but whenever I look at it I'm happy with how cute it is, so I'm happy with the end result.

Got a tiny bit heavy handed with the sealant but this is all done! That's not coming off the table without some effort. I love the shading on his eyes and face, and I think it's a nice contrast to how simple the mane is. He looks like a happy lion and I'm happy with it ❤️

I’m sure you already know this, but I find it really interesting that they had Yana Toboso from Black Butler do the character designs for Twisted Wonderland. I also had no idea it’s an official Disney product! I looked it up out of pure curiosity since I’ve never heard of the series before and I really like your art for the characters. I’ve been following for a while but I thought maybe relating to the characters from TW would help me envision your ideas a lot better 😅

It is indeed interesting, and I’m sure a lot of people experience this, but it’s so funny to watch/read TW at times, because you always get this “wait, is Disney really ok with this???” feeling.

Our TW journey is kind of funny because it started with us rewatching and rereading Kuroshitsuji (you might’ve noticed that…) and appreciating Toboso both as an artist and as a writer. We also had seen her works for TW every now and then even up to that point, because when you look up her artwork and try to study her, it’s kind of inevitable. Our friend had started playing TW around that time and we ended up seeing even more of amazing artworks and designs Toboso’s done for the game and also hearing some good stuff about the characters and the game itself. Then we were told about Idia and Azul, so we drew them just for fun because of their very pretty designs.

But then we found out that she isn’t just an artist and a designer, she is also a writer for the game?? Which surprised us and made us especially excited to learn more about it; we really enjoy her writing. Some of the ideas she covers and the way she expresses them are quite unique and interesting, and you can see it in both Kuroshitsuji and TW. Like, they seem familiar to a certain degree, but don’t go the way you expect them to go, especially if you’re anticipating a Disney formula or stuff like that. I could rant about it for a long time…

So yeah, we ended up temporarily pausing our Kuroshitsuji deep-dive and started watching TW (both the main story and the vignettes/events) instead. We are still in the process, there’s still a lot of stuff for us to watch and see, and it is truly very exciting.

We’ve read some parts of the interview in which she told about how she’d started working for Disney, how she’d arrived with her concept sketches right away, and had basically just become the main creator behind the game that instant, because she had a lot of very good ideas and a very clear direction for both the game and the characters. I’m sorry, I just really love it, I really really love the fact that a great artist who is very passionate about her work and Disney films got this opportunity and got recognized for her skills, she really deserves it.

Oof sorry my reply to you turned out to be a love letter to Toboso Yana haha, I couldn’t help it. Love this woman a lot, especially lately: the more we see of her, the more inspiring she becomes to us both as a designer/artist and as a writer. Alright, I’ll shut up lol

hnghhhh i love how you draw your characters in your style with big noses 😭💙 as a big nose haver myself i was ashamed of it back in middle school but gradually came to appreciate it as part of what gives my face "identity". glad to see more big nose representation in fanart ❤️❤️❤️

I understand that all too well 😔 I would get made fun of a lot for having a hooked, bulbous nose. I would see everyone with little pixie noses and I wanted that so bad when I was younger. I wanted to look like everybody else...

But over time, I looked around and saw that a lot of people have the same/similar nose shape as me. I wanted to incorporate unique facial features into my art more, to show that people don't have to have the exact same facial features in order to look good.

I dreamed of Bel and he looked very pretty! But I decided to flesh him out more. I designed Beleza to where he has a hooked nose and it's very prominent. But that doesn't make him any less gorgeous! Xe also got made fun of for how big xis nose is, but that never stopped xem from being xemself. Xe is a huge inspiration for how I treat myself (treating myself better and appreciating the features I have)

Plus, I draw my bulbous hooked nose, and I even headcanon Vanilla to have a hooked nose as well. Those nose types are beautiful and enchanting, if anyone tells you otherwise, they have no idea what they're talking about!
