Oso Oso - Basking in the Glow⁠ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁠ @osoosoband #osoosoband #osooso #emo #emopop #powerpop #indiepop #indierock #longbeach #ny #longbeachny⁠ @triplecrownrec ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁠ I have really, really gotten into the newest Oso Oso album, though it was a little bit of a gear shift from the Yunahon Mixtape, the album that got me clinically invested in this solo project by Jade Lilitri. For those of you out of the loop, Oso Oso is making some of the most catchy and perfectly sized emo pop songs since the golden days of Saves the Day and the Get Up Kids. They're adjacent to The Hotelier, but err on the side of classic power pop chord progressions and songwriting style. The Yunahon Mixtape transported me back to my first year of college and how exciting it was to discover albums like StD - Through Being Cool. Basking in the Glow is much softer, much more introspective, and more akin to the newer waves of emo revival. It's a gorgeous record and further proof that Jade is one of the rare, near flawless songwriters of our time and frankly it may be best that his songwriting brilliance is still very DIY and indie because we know how major labels tend to seek and destroy this kind of elemental magic when they find it. I'd be happy to see Oso Oso stay just under their radar and continue being an absolute titan of indie pop without any of the over-produced and made for minivan commercials nonsense that have plagued their peers historically. If you're looking for a great recreational sadness end-of-summer soundtrack, you just found it. The Hotelier playing Home Like No Place Is There. 1- La Cultura estadounidense (yankee [go home!]) es acusada de no poseer una identidad cultural propia, más que el rock and roll y su estilo de vida neoliberal (coma Mc Donals, beba Coca Cola, comuniquese en Mac, etc).  2- Los mayores aportes culturales de Estados Unidos son producidos por sus clases minoritarias, pensemos por ejemplo en el Jazz o la poesía Beat.  3- Poco después de la caída del muro de Berlín (comienzo oficial del posmoderno, fin de la historia, y triunfo del capitalismo como pensamiento cultural según Francis Fukuyama) surge en Estados Unidos el movimiento Post Hardcore. 4- Post Hardcore toma la velocidad y bets del punk, suavizados y fusionados con las atmósferas y “vaivenes” del hardcore. Musicalmente es un movimiento de fuerza intuida y melodías deprimentes.  5- Las temáticas comunes del post Hardcore  contienen letras de protesta hacia la vida vacua y consumista del posmoderno con una reflexión existencial de la vida, tomando temas comunes como la muerte, el desamor (personal, no de pareja), el silencio ante el auxilio emocional, y la soledad. El sinsentido hecho música. 6- Durante la década de los 2000 el Post Hardcore entró al radar de música pop rebautizado como EMO. Etimológicamente referido a lo Emocional. Esta entrada al pop eliminó la riqueza musical del movimiento, interpretando el mensaje vacuo con las temáticas y acordes del pop. Como todo en el posmoderno capital se interpretó solo en el exterior. En otras palabras el Emo pop es el café descafeinado y la leche deslactosada de la música. Existe sin la esencia del movimiento para no dañar los organismos que la escuchan. Pero al igual que una persona toma café para despertar, escuchamos Emo para emocionarnos (entendiendo todo el abanico posible de lo que una emoción es). 7- El Emo, o PostHardcore underground (el verdadero) tuvo un gran resurgimiento durante el 2013, bandas como American Football, The World is a Beautiful Place, La Dispute, Foxing, The Hotelier, Pianos Become The Teeth, etc. Se encuentran produciendo en lo que es, quizá, el peor momento para la nación Estadounidense. Un movimiento musical-cultural de jóvenes clasemedieros, de raza blanca, hablando en contra de la vida impuesta por el neoliberal, desde una crítica emocional.  8- El renacimiento del Emo (2013-actual) me parece la producción cultural más importante de la juventud estadounidense media.  9- En el video mostrado, The Hotelier (al igual que han hecho muchos otros grupos Emo, como American Football o La Dispute) interpretan su álbum completo en su presentación en vivo. Expresan así que la música Emo/PostHardcore no puede expresarse con una canción popular o pegadiza, sino que son una construcción capitulada, narrativa, secuenciada, y es necesario escuchar por completo el mensaje.  10- En una época de apatía juvenil el Emo nos muestra que es importante la completud, que debemos incomodarnos para entender, y que la emoción es fundamental para vivir.  “Tell me again that it’s all in my head.” Dendron -The Hotelier
