The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is a prime example (for me) about how previous ambivalence towards a book can change years after reading it for the first time. I’m not sure when I first read this book but I do remember the impressions it left. One - that it was all about baseball (I’m not a huge fan of books that feature sports) and two - that it wasn’t up to the standard that I expect from King at his greatest. ⁣ ⁣ This is the story of a young girl called Trisha who is on a hike in a remote area with her mother, recently divorced and her older brother, Pete. Trisha leaves the safety of the trail to go to the toilet and as her brother and mother are too busy bickering, they don’t notice she is gone. ⁣ ⁣ After a while, Trisha becomes completely lost in the woods and has to try and find her way back to civilisation. The rest of the book follows Trisha’s incredible journey as she meets with injury, attempts to find something safe to eat and drink and learns to survive when night closes in. Keeping her company and maintaining her sanity is her trusty Walkman where she can listen to the radio, specifically the Boston Red Sox and her beloved favourite player, Tom Gordon. However, something is out there with Trisha. And it’s getting closer. ⁣ ⁣ I’m so glad I read this book with my #keeperofkingbookclub as I was so surprised how much I enjoyed it on the re-read. Is it the best thing King has ever written? Well no, but it’s certainly moved from one of my least favourites to books that I would recommend if you’re looking for a quick, engrossing read. Trisha is a beautiful character, drawn perfectly by the author and it wasn’t long before I found myself genuinely caring about what may happen to her. Trisha falls back to avoid listening and is therefore unable to find her family again after she wanders off the trail to take a bathroom break. Trying to catch up by attempting a shortcut, she slips and falls down a steep embankment and ends up hopelessly lost, heading deeper into the heart of the forest. She is left with a bottle of water, two Twinkies, a boiled egg, a tuna sandwich, a bottle of Surge, a poncho, a Game Boy, and a Walkman. Wow, knapp 10 Tage ist mein letzter Beitrag schon her. 😯 Was ist da nur wieder passiert, hä?! 🙈🧐 Klarer Fall von Hitze. 🥵 Die Sommerhitze ist passiert. 🤣 Ich lümmelte ganz oft träge herum und fühlte mich grauenvoll unkreativ und uninspiriert. 🤷 Grauenvoll geht es übrigens auch in King's Roman »Das Mädchen« zu (na, war das nicht eine geniale Überleitung?! 😂👍). In dem Roman verirrt sich die 9-jährige Trish im Wald. Fortan muss sie sich mit Mückenschwärmen und beängstigenden Dingen auseinandersetzen. 🙊 . Meine Ausgabe ist die 1. Auflage von 2001. Sie hat 16,90 DM gekostet und es steht sogar schon drauf, dass es ab dem 1.1.2002 8,45 € kostete. 😶 #langistsher Das war in dem Jahr, als ich drauf und dran war, meinen ersten Schulabschluss in einem winzigen Kaff in Rheinland-Pfalz zu machen. Es war auch ein Jahr, in dem die heftige Akne mir das Leben schwer machte. Damals fing ich optimistisch an, Pläne für das Abitur zu schmieden, um mich der #Kunst und #Literatur widmen zu können. 😍 Es war eindeutig ein Sommer, der die Weichen legte für den Weg, der mich mitten ins Hier & Jetzt führte. Ein Sommer voller Hoffnungen und Träume. 🧡 #erinnerungen . Immer wenn ich #DasMädchen aus dem Regal nehme, fühle ich erneut den Sommer von damals. Den Hauch der #Erinnerung an die Schulzeit. Die Wärme. Die jugendliche Vorfreude auf das Erwachsensein. Die Freiheit. Für mich waren die 2000er Jahre definitiv das spannendste Jahrzehnt in meinem Leben, einfach weil sich so viele Dinge in dieser Zeit ereignet haben. 😍👍 . Habt ihr das auch? La chica que amaba a Tom Gordon, Stephen King. Leer algo de King siempre es motivo de emoción para mi, llevo leído 2 libros de él, y sí, sé que no es nada comparado con los 200 libros que lleva publicados, pero hasta ahora los dos leídos me gustaron. Tienen reseña del primero y ahora vamos con el segundo. La chica que amaba a Tom Gordon es la historia de una niña de 9 años que se pierde en un bosque haciendo un recorrido con su mamá y su hermano mayor. La nena, llamada Trisha no solamente tiene que pasar hambre sino que también debe sobrevivir a sus propios pensamientos. ¿Hay alguien conmigo? ¿Qué es eso que se mueve atrás mío? ¿Y ese sonido? ¿Por qué siento que alguien me observa? ¿Quien anda ahí? A veces nuestro peor enemigo somos nosotros mismos. No les voy a decir si sobrevive o no, para eso tienen que leer el libro, pero puedo decir que el final no era lo que yo me esperaba y eso me gustó. Lo que me encantó también, fue que me imaginé estar pasando lo mismo que Trisha, los escenarios son tan reales que es imposible no imaginarse en ellos. No es un libro que te hace llorar o emocionar mucho, tiene bastante suspenso y la intriga es buena. Admito que esperaba un poco más de miedo, más terror del tipo King, pero no. Eso no quiere decir que no me gustó lo que leí. No muchos conocen éste libro y está bueno leer algo desconocido para muchos de un grande como él. Lamentablemente no es uno de los mejores libros que leí en el 2018, para ser más especifica lo leí en Noviembre. Pero el puntaje es bastante bueno. I love so many of Stephen King’s books, especially ‘Salem’s Lot and Pet Sematary. As a kid, my mom made sure I knew I was NEVER allowed to read his books...so naturally I sought them out when I was unsupervised at the library and started reading his books at age 11. #sorrymom 🤷🏻‍♀️ .
