After two-year hiatus on in-person activities: SDA celebrates UN Month 2022
by Francine Navarro, OD Associate Editor
It is safe to travel again.
“A festive beach holiday in Australia with the blazing sun and sea breeze? Perhaps a tour of the world's largest river: the Amazon, in South America? Or a chance to view the splendor of the Statue of Liberty in the USA, North America?” All of this just happened, November 11, Friday, as St. Dominic Academy of Pulilan, Inc. closed its United Nations Month 2022.
With hosts Lee Matthew Tan (12-Harmony), Jan Polla Buatis, Janna Guieb (12-Providence), and Stephen Carl Esguerra (12- Tolerance), the Araling Panlipunan-led activity revolved in the theme “International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture”.
In his remarks, Mr. Dean Richard O. Vasallo, Araling Panlipunan teacher underscored the importance of sustainability in this day and age.
“This celebration is for you students who enjoy seeing fashion and sustainability all at the same time. It is for those who love expressing themselves through Art. To everyone who takes great pleasure in wandering the world through learning different cultures and flags. To those who commit themselves in reviving our biodiversity. I am with you. We all are. Always remember that those who give up are sure to lose. So let’s fight together- and let’s win.”
Separate programs were held for Grades 7 to 9 and Grades 10 to 12.
During the program, CYM Music Ministry hyped the crowd with an old-time favorite song performance of Kamikazee’s “Narda”.
Shortly after, the Onward Dominicans shared their radio broadcast feature presentation with headlines about school news relating to UN, St. Dominic Sports Team, and others.
Subsequently, the highly anticipated segment “Parade of Nations”, in which selected students from each section showcase their own crafted costumes from the different continents, made the crowd frenzy and energized.
Grade 7 students represented Asia as Grade 8 students took charge of European countries. Grade 9 students were at the helm for African countries while Grade 10 students represented Pacific states. Senior High School grades 11 and 12 took charge of North and South American countries.
SDA’s UN 2022 also highlighted each section’s creativity with classrooms-turned-exhibit rooms and “Parade of Nation” costumes made of recyclable materials. The month also showcased students’ creativity and intelligence in the various contests held during the month.
In a statement Ms. Maribel M. Emanig, the Araling Panlipunan Subject Area Team Leader, thanked all the students and personnel who made the UN Month celebration successful.
SDA’s UN 2022 also highlighted each section’s creativity with classrooms-turned-exhibit rooms and “Parade of Nation” costumes made of recyclable materials. The month also showcased students’ creativity and intelligence in the various contests held during the month.
“Congratulations po sa ating lahat. Maraming salamat po sa suporta. Hindi po magiging successful ang aming munting celebration kung wala po kayo our dear advisers, students, personnel, and Sisters” (Congratulations to all of us. Thank you very much for your support. Our simple celebration would not be successful if it were not for our dear advisers, students personnel, and Sisters).
Meanwhile in an interview with OD, Supreme Student Council President Norielyn Bantog said the UN month and similar activities will help foster more interaction among students.
“I think it is essential for us Dominicans to engage in this kind of activity because it helps us interact with each other. Through the UN, we can also promote harmony and acknowledge the different human beings in each country.”
November would be filled with co-curricular activities for students as SDA would also celebrate this year’s Sports Fest 2022. #

Want to be happier? Begin by being good to yourself. That may sound self-evident, but too many people skip this step and try to make themselves happy by chasing ever-higher goals or holding themselves to ever-greater standards of perfection. In fact, the happiest people go out of their way to treat themselves right and they do something nice for themselves each day. They set appropriate boundaries and take care of themselves by saying no to things when they need to. Ironically, being good to yourself instead will bring you closer to achieving your ambitions. Each time I see some of these great Nigerians, I remember that our struggles haven't waned over the years! . In fact more, struggle awaits us, if the wrong people continue to fill leadership positions in this country. . Sitting down doing nothing about it means you are part of the problem. It may not affect you but definitely may affect your friends, relations or offspring in the future. Speak out, do the right things and most importantly be an active citizen! . Now. Have you registered to obtain your voters card? It ends next month. . #civilsociety #hackers #freedomfighters #hacks #strugglecontinues #civicrights #nonstateactors #civildisobedience #activism #activists #fela #soyinka #fumilayoransomekuti #gambosawaba #frankkokori #ogoni9 #delegiwa #sarowiwa #nnamdikanu #uwazuruike # enahoro #oshomole #aminukano #bennwabueze #agbakoba #floranwapa #nadeco #massob #ipob #massop #rebuildnigeria #takebacknigeria #thefuturewewant
