Homare: Yes. Well, we don’t want to make them late for opening time, so shall we get started?

Tsuzuru: Yeah. Let’s do this.

Tsuzuru: Hello. I’m MANKAI Company’s Spring Troupe’s Tsuzuru Minagi.

Tsuzuru: Arisugawa-san is the one filming.

Homare: Winter Troupe’s Homare Arisugawa. Today I am Tsuzuru-kun’s cameraman.

Tsuzuru: Thank you for today.

Homare: Yes, my pleasure.

Tsuzuru: Well then, the place I’m going to introduce to you all is here, a shop called “Bakery Theato”.

Tsuzuru: Today we have special permission to be here before opening time.

Homare: The lovely aroma of baking bread fills the store!

Tsuzuru: It’s really appetizing.

Tsuzuru: …Actually, the reason I learned about his place was because of my fellow Spring Troupe member, Masumi.

Homare: Oho, is that so?

Tsuzuru: Yeah. I never used to buy bread at this bakery, but…

Tsuzuru: Then Masumi started getting curry bread from here for me often, and it’s really good.

Tsuzuru: And I liked them so much that I started buying some for myself from time to time.

Homare: I see, so that’s why. Have you ever gotten anything other than curry bread?

Tsuzuru: Of course! Their curry bread isn’t the only thing that’s delicious.

Tsuzuru: Plus they have different bread every day, so I don’t think you’ll get bored of it even if you come here every single day.

Homare: That’s splendid! I’d come here every day if I could.

Tsuzuru: They have a lot of different kinds of bread, but I like this salted bread the most.

Tsuzuru: This time, I was given special permission to have some inside the store, so I’m gonna eat it right away.

Tsuzuru: Well then, let’s dig in. Awmph…

Homare: How is it?

Tsuzuru: Delicious as always. It’s simple with the outside being crispy and the inside being chewy…

Tsuzuru: And the saltiness is just right, I’ll never get bored of eating it.

Masumi: It was so good, that place wasn’t crowded and it was like a well-kept-secret place.

Rento: Woulda liked to have kept that place a secret if I coulda…

Rento: Nah, it’s fine. More customers are good for the bakery.

Tsuzuru: Well, if you look at it from the store’s perspective, it is good for sales.

Rento: I ‘spose… We should be happy that the people who make such good melon pan are happy!

Masumi: Yeah. If we want to get bread, we can just go early in the morning. That way we’ll never lose to the other customers.

Rento: Woo, that’s the spirit!

Hey now, I notice that this comment is the beginning of a fair amount of putting your own profile down! We trust that you like Theato because you made him and liked him enough to ask us to help you improve him rather than throw him out altogether, so I’m gonna remove a few of the comments where you’re beating yourself up and proceed as usual, okay?

World: Alternia

Name: Theato Ertaro (I don’t remember how I got this name)

It sounds a little like the word “theater” stretched out to 12 letters, which would make sense given his theming around ballet. Let’s see if we can make him more specific. I like Theato since we can link it back etymologically to all sorts of word roots to mean both spectators and spectacle, which I think works great for someone who idealizes forbidden love.

For the last name, perhaps Elsler, for Fanny Elssler, the ballerina who declined to participate in the famous Grand Pas de Quatre, which featured 4 of the other premiere ballerinas of the era performing on a stage together. I feel that this works on many levels to enhance Theato’s theme: Theato is very much capital-r Romantic himself, the quadrant system makes a pas de quatre more appropriate than a pas de deux to represent romantic woes, Elssler voluntarily bowed out so her exclusion was very much self-inflicted, and the most famous pas de quatre is the pas de cygnets involving the four swans in Swan Lake! Age: 6.92 sweeps (15 years old)

Theme/Story: He’s someone who idealizes “ forbidden love”. He falls in “love” constantly w/ people he knows he can’t have specifically b/e he can’t have them(usually lowbloods and people already in a matespritship and he doesn’t consciously choose people he can’t have). He is in a perpetual state of pining. He’s somewhat based on Swan Lake since that’s, like, the de facto tragic love story. As a result he has somewhat of ballet theme. His hive is next to a lake. His ancestor was probably Troll! Odette or Troll! Romeo or something.

Review Goals: General Overview. His classpect is set in stone though.

Strife Specibus: No clue

Huh. We know that Joey from Hiveswap can use balletkind to kick and dance around her enemies, but I worry about pushing Theato too far into that niche. What about trumpetkind, as a reference to The Trumpet of the Swan? He can whack people with it or even blast ‘em with notes to deafen them! Not to mention it gives a really nice opening for a beatdown song titled “Swan Song.”

Fetch Modus: Also no clue

What about a modus that only accepts items in a “quadrant” with one another? For example, peanut butter (<3 jelly <3< mustard <> sea salt). You cannot captchalogue items by themselves, nor can you remove them without extricating the others in their quadrant.

It doesn’t sound like an innuendo necessarily, but it *does* sound like a nonspecific “I’m a passionate person” handle. What about etoileCroise, both ballet terms but literally translating to “star crossed,” which is how he sees himself?

Quirk: no clue.

Special Abilities: Other than blueblood toughness and super not-getting-mindcontrolled powers, nothing much. He can stand en pointe for longer than 5 seconds which is tough.

Lusus/Guardian: A swan who taught him ballet by aggressively yet gracefully squawking at him and taught him to swim by pushing him in the lake. She’s in the aforementioned lake most of the time and if you try to take her inside she’ll try to peck your eyes out.

Dope. Love her. Huge fan.

Interests: He likes to dance ballet and probably knows how to swim

That tracks! How is he when it comes to media consumption? Since he idealizes forbidden love so much, what novels does he read? What television shows does he watch? Does he have a troll Ao3 account? 

Appearance: His hair is in a wavy short bob most of the time, he only ties it back when he’s practicing. He’s pretty tall and his horns are tilted to the front. He wears a white shirt w/ his symbol on it and a black leotard w/ matching black ballet slippers.

Nice! I’m always here for troll boys with longer hair.

Personality: He’s very overdramatic and chews on the scenery in every word. He’s constantly talking about his latest crush to anyone who’ll listen (and even those who don’t want to). You don’t remember bringing it up yet he’s still talking about them. He’s actually really innocent and nice which makes people less likely to be mad at him b/c they know he’s not trying to railroad the conversation but he still ends up doing it. Basically nice but really self-centered and idealized unhealthy ideas of romance.

So you mentioned that his classpect is set in stone, and I want to expand on what that would mean for his character. We’ve seen that Heart relates both to the self and to romantic woes, and that Pages tend to start their journey by not having a lot of their aspect, while having the potential to grow into someone who can wield it to devastating effect. (Potential being the key word here, since some Pages will never reach this stage.)

So this means that Theato most likely doesn’t have a very stable sense of self when this story begins! He doesn’t have a clear idea of who he is, and pining for others to come sweep him away from his life is likely a manifestation of a desire to have someone else tell him who to be. How do you see that developing over the course of his arc?

Land: Land of Lakes and Emotion

I think it tracks that his land would have lakes, but Emotion is a difficult word to convert to a quest, so how about Land o’ Lakes (haha butter) and Silver, covering the land in places he truly needs to “reflect” on himself to advance?

Anyway that’s about it! Thanks for bringing Theato to us, and I hope my suggestions helped!

Theato’s rant against Lena was glorious. I expect that everyone is going to go with the entire route of saying, “Oh, she’s been kind. While you’re right, it’s how you said it.”

In this case, no. How he went about it was 100% the right call. No matter how kind she is and how respectfully she treat them, she’s part of an empire that declares the 86s non-human.

Rant at the students aside, which she can do it because SHE won’t suffer any personal consequences (for now), unless she does something extraordinary like defect, lead a rebellion, or something that breaks from the empire... Theato was right in what he said and how he said it.

It’ll be interesting to see how the rest of this develops.

Inspired by the true story of Jon Lien - known as the Whale Man - Between Breaths is a profoundly emotional memory play that sails through Lien's life and the dangerous, death-defying work of saving whales trapped in fishing nets off Newfoundland's coast. Over his long career, Lien saved over 500 whales and earned the respect of the island's fishermen, but his biggest fight came at the end of his life as dementia progressively conquered his body and mind. Featuring an evocative live score by Newfoundland's Juno-nominated The Once, Between Breaths is a beautiful and poignant play about the parts of ourselves we hold on to after everything else is gone.

Name: Anatri Temach

As with Theato, I assume that you do not remember how you got this name. This seems to be a character themed around horror and taking facts for granted, which is super fun as an intersection! To that end, I actually like her name; it sounds like a corruption of “anathema,” which is good both for a horror fan and for a black-and-white thinker.

Age: 6.92 sweeps (15 years old)

Theme/Story: Simply put, she doesn’t come to her conclusions and gets most of her knowledge from other people and treats them as complete facts. When she does come up with her own ideas she’s brilliant but also bad at expressing them in a way others, or herself, find satisfactory. She also loves the macabre and writing and writing about the macabre. She tries to talk about that stuff too but everything sounds better in her head than it does when spoken. She craves attention but is not sure how to get it.

Review Goals: Just a general overview.

I’m a fan of straight up-and-down knifekind? Brings to mind the trope of the Final Girl in a horror movie with a kitchen knife.

I feel like this could be pushed further. What about obdurateBloodbath (OB), which has the added fun of being a potential blood type if she were human.

Quirk: She either rambles on and on and on to point where it gets too long and she keeps jumping around topics. Or she speaks in short, curt sentences that get straight to the point. Depends on her mood.

Special Abilities: Typical Indigo blood strength, nothing special.

Lusus: An Aye-Aye. He gives her the basic necessities of life and that’s pretty much it. He’s also very loud.

God if I could suggest one possible alternative: a tarsier? Imagine the eyes of that size outside her bedroom window when her parent wants to get her attention.

Interests: She has an eclectic taste in music that’s somewhere between pop punk and murder folk (real genres of music btw). She likes shows and books that aren’t really well known as well and will basically beg you to watch//read/listen to them. She loves horror movies and books though she’s really critical of both of them. She really likes language and specifically what you can communicate using language and the meaning and structure of certain words. She doesn’t like Creepypasta b/c the fandom ruined it. Also she prefers psychological horror, which is the genre she usually writes. She also writes fanfiction, usually fix it fics. She has a collection of fake blood she made herself in every color of the hemospectrum. She’s really finnicky about them being ‘realistic’.

:O I had not previously heard of murder folk, so thank you for clueing me into the subgenre! Also lol full mood about getting into obscure media and making that everyone else’s problem.

Appearance: She’s tall, which makes her seem more intimidating than she really is. She has an indigo hoodie with a skeleton design on it. She keeps it unzipped most of the time so you can see her sign. She has long hair.

Personality: She’s really stubborn, once she finds a hill she will die on that hill unless she’s explicitly proven wrong. Either you talk at her or she talks at you, there’s rarely a middle ground. She’s really confidant in her intelligence and not much else. Sometimes she snaps at people or gets really frustrated even if she knows it’s irrational. Not being understood or payed attention to is particularly frustrating for her. The only things that scare her are jumpscares and death. Anything else will be met with aggression, morbid curiosity, or barely a reaction at all. She wants to help people when they’re upset but doesn’t know how. Highly empathetic and good at finding a middle ground or reasonable solution as long as she’s not one of the arguers or has a strong opinion on it.

Gonna be honest this troll is pretty solid I don’t have much to add here!

Land: Land of Archives and Nightmares

Yesssss I was gonna suggest a Magnus Archives reference to hit that sweet spot of skepticism and horror. I hope cassette tapes and spiderwebs figure into some part of her Land!
