Admittedly, a lot of my headcanons come from the sheer fact that Danganronpa just doesn’t give a lot of details I wanted about Sonia, and so I came up with them on my own. But the two biggest ones I can think of that Danganronpa: S decided to continue with (as it’s fresh on my mind, of course):

- Danganronpa: S insinuates, from Sonia’s conversation with Celestia, that Novoselic has beaches. Frankly, I don’t care for this headcanon (unless a riverbank counts) for the following reason: considering what we know about Novoselic and my interest in injecting some amount of realism on this blog, it just doesn’t make sense.

It’s a small kingdom, yes. Which could, in turn, imply that it’s an island of some sort. But with Novoselic’s exports (wine and chocolate) and the fact they’ve never been invaded...it just leads me to believe it’s more akin to landlocked country. Admittedly I take some inspiration from Monaco and Luxembourg for some things, but from the above traits listed in the game? The only thing that makes sense to me is somewhere like Switzerland, and therefore I headcanon Novoselic is basically the western half of Switzerland: on this blog, Switzerland is split down the middle, with Novoselic being the western half of it. 

I also like the excuse of Sonia knowing how to downhill ski, based on that one DR3 art of Class 77-B enjoying winter sports/amusements.

I also like the idea of Sonia visiting a beach for the first time in SDR2. Everything is already so new, shiny, and wonderful for her, let the beach be included in that!

- Sonia’s (weird, sometimes adorable) speech patterns. Now, I don’t disregard the fact that she has them. I just think her ability to mix up Japanese words and phrases makes more sense in the context of the DR3 anime or the SDR2 game, where she’s very new to the country and its customs. She’s learned Japanese from teachers and books, but coming to the country and speaking it day in and day out (much less reading and listening to it)? That’s a different experience altogether. And while she’d struggle at first, I believe that if she’s there for months/years, she would have a better grasp on the language, including innuendo and idioms, during her later years at Hope’s Peak. And especially after she graduates/her university verse/her adult verse.

It’s why that, in her older verses, I have her using less outdated slang and mixed-up phrases. They happen on occasion, but not nearly to the extent they occur in her high school verse. 

And that’s why I disagree with the Danganronpa: S headcanon that, after three years, Sonia’s still making the same (kind of sad, kind of adorable) mistakes. Because she’s still learning, and she’s got plenty of friends to tell her when something’s wrong/doesn’t make sense/maybe she should say this instead. I feel like the canon does it just to make her look like a bimbo and she’s not that. Not with all of her skills, her caring heart, and her drive to keep learning.

This is often subject to the particular muses and muns writing them, but most often?

Bold Optimist (more powerful) + Reclusive Pessimist. Sonia, most of the time, is the optimist. Yes, she is more powerful. Resisting her is a bad idea. For even the most pessimistic, self-loathing muses...there will be a time where they must admit defeat as Sonia pulls them along by the arm, triumphant.

Others:

Looks like a cinnamon roll, is a cinnamon roll, but can kill you if provoked

fake dating fake dating fake dating

Arranged marriage that Sonia initially resists but ends up falling for the other muse anyway

post-SDR2 anything (Is this a trope? Do I just like angst? Yes and yes.)

Two muses, one bed (ensuring awkwardness every. damn. time.)

Dumbass + Oh Fuck I Guess They’re MY Dumbass (Sonia plays both roles. Sometimes in the same dynamic)

Bodyguard + the idiot princess/queen they have to protect (Sonia is booksmart. She’s compassionate. She doesn’t have much common sense and will destroy your kitchen. Proceed with caution)

Mischief enablers

the fearless one + the scaredy-cat

Bonding through mutual family problems

Obvious suave flirting oh my god how do they not see it + the oblivious one (Sonia can play both roles here, but she’s usually the latter. Unless the other muse is being just direct enough, or gross about it)

And in general....Rich People Problems. So many Rich People Problems.

It's been so great getting to know you over the last few years and it has always been delightful to see you on the dash whatever it has been Sonia n her antics, a picture of your other wonderful spoiled princess (Molly is just so cute) or just being impressed by your cosplays.

I'll also say your portrayal of Sonia is so very engaging and it's easy to tell you put quite a bit of thought into it, so much that I remember random hc posts regarding her despite it probably at this point being almost a year since they were written. 

I hope 22 treats you well and hope we get to have more chances to talk/have threads with you.

Seventh, I know I can count on you for mentioning the most important princess in my life. As such, appropriate princess tax will be under the cut. How could I not? Though at the moment, she’s freaking out over premature fireworks.

Thank you so much for your feedback regarding my portrayal! I really do appreciate it. I know I stray from canon a bit but it just feels right to me. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I’m so glad you and your muses (mostly) enjoy it! I’m sure there’s a few muses that will worry about Sonia, or if she hasn’t met them yet, she will. She’s a lot to handle, especially when she’s stubborn. Or there’s a demon to meet or a roller coaster in Hell to visit. 

I’m so surprised you remember my random HC posts, too! And super flattered, even though half the time it’s “that’s such a stupid idea I’m posting it” or “I just watched this royalty/European/rich people thing and it’s now going to be my headcanon try and stop me.” But some of it just comes from how little we get in canon about most of the DR cast, and to make threads make sense (to a degree), I had to fill in some blanks. I still need a reason for more makangos and the Makango Catch to show up in a thread. Or for some muses to stumble upon ESPN 8 “The Ocho” during a broadcast of the biannual Makango Catch and bam, in the background, members of the Novoselic Royal Family.

In the sunshine, her buff tabby tuxedo colors really come through! She looks grey otherwise, but in the sun? So much buff and brown. I remember I played with her toes right after I took this and she chattered in protest. But let me do it anyway.

Princess Molly, high on catnip from her macaron cat toy. I can’t have edible macarons and not give her her own macaron too. She’s royalty after all.

Princess Molly, finally taking to her new/old friend, Mini Molly. Mini Molly was a gift from my fiancé 2+ years ago at this point so I could travel with a tiny plush Molly for trips when I’d miss the real one. Until very recently, PM has not been fond of MM. Now, PM can be found nuzzling MM and flopping beside her for a nap, as seen here.

Whether it was her title, his skills with his fists, or that some students didn't approve of their friendship, Sonia hadn't cared. She slid into the seat across from him anyway: temporarily, of course. Wakana would soon be on her way to join him, or so Sonia guessed. They were quite inseparable during their free moments, something the princess found to be rather sweet, even if she did not feel at liberty to say it aloud to either of them. It was likely a journey they were both trying to navigate alone and had yet to discover that they were, coincidentally, on the same path instead of different ones.

"Ooh, but what if there was a cat in here and it wasn't delivered a week late?" She grinned, eyes sparkling at the prospect. "We could bring it to Tanaka-san! He would know precisely how to care for it. Though I daresay Pekoyama-san would also like to meet a new feline friend! It is why we both quite enjoy adventures to the cat cafes."

If it wasn't a cat, and it indeed came from Europe, Sonia wondered what the box's contents contained instead. She was too polite to inquire, as plenty of private parcels arrived for her from Novoselic and as long as they were kept away from the likes of Kazuichi or Teruteru, she was afforded the privacy to unbox them as she wished. It only took one unfortunate mishap to learn just how determined some students were in the quest to uncover what sort of underwear the Ultimate Princess wore.

"Oh? Are you not waiting for Furuya-san?" She asked, puzzled. Pleased, but puzzled. "You two so often eat lunch together, I thought she'd be coming to see you. But no, I am not otherwise occupied. I should very much like to exercise with you!"

She'd have to change her attire, but it would be a far more pleasant option to break a sweat with him than alone. She nodded in agreement. "It is a bit uncomfortable to visit the gym alone anyway. I would feel much reassurance if you were exercising with me! Could you show me that very striking jab you did in your last boxing match, perhaps? I don't think that style was taught in my self-defense courses and, quite honestly, it looks rather fun to knock your opponent flat-out with a single punch."
