i was finally sucked up into clangen blog hell, please welcome larchclan! this will probably end up being a casual blog, so uploads might be infrequent but i hope you’ll stick around!

New clan!! My friends and I decided that we wanted to make blog clans, so we thought: hey, what if we made our clans neighbors and coded them in together.

so we did!!!

The three clans originated from one clan on the beach, living under one leader. However, after huge disagreements on where to live or what to specialize in, the clan broke into three pieces. Families divided, friendships broken, and the original clan that ruled the beach was no more. These pieces are what form GuppyClan, CliffClan, and LarchClan today.

I am the superior GuppyClan, and the leader is Floodstar with Mousespeck as her deputy.

One friend (Rismue) is LarchClan, with their leader being Pebblestar and Fogfur as the deputy.

And last, but not least, another friend (hib) is CliffClan, whose leader is Wetstar and the deputy is Streakfur!

Since my friends are the neighboring clans, there might be some references to their clangen clans! :) And I'll be sure to link them if they decide to make blogs too!!!

Sunstar:

⚡️(Special powers or abilities?)

A: Unfortunately, Sunstar is a pretty boring leader and isn’t anymore connected to StarClan or ‘magic’ than Asterghost is. In my universe, cats have the same abilities that they can get in clangen (omen finder, dream walker, ghost sight, etc), but Sunstar is a normal kitty :]

🪲(What do they value the most?)

A: This is a pretty tough question, as she was practically thrown headfirst into the leader position when HavenClan was formed, and is still trying to gain her bearings with everything. But, after handling the clan for a few moons, her value and need for honesty has definitely increased. She can’t afford for something bad to happen to her clanmates again because someone wasn’t being truthful, or another cat’s harmful actions were swept under the rug.

Fiercefang:

🌳(What does their family tree look like?)

A: When it comes to the prior members of BloomClan, I don’t actually have any that exist as references, but I like to think that Fiercefang’s tree is filled with a lot of toms! He has two uncles on his father’s side and one on his mother’s side, and when his mother died early in his childhood, his father ended up becoming mates with, you guessed it, a tom who helped him through his grief. Fiercefang was the only kitten in his litter, but growing up in the nursery, he was surrounded by other tom-kits he would roughhouse with.

So, long story short, he’s never really had a strong female influence in his life (though that doesn’t mean he respects women any less) 😎

🐾(What do they think of nearby clans/groups?)

A: Fiercefang probably holds the highest regard for DownClan, as under Fluffystar’s leadership, they’ve definitely mellowed out and haven’t caused any problems for HavenClan since they came to the beach. LeopardClan and LarchClan are on neutral terms with HavenClan, and Fiercefang sometimes has cordial conversations with their fellow deputies before Gatherings.

Fiercefang is the most wary of MumbleClan, particularly their leader Sharpstar, who’ll show up in a future update (small hint, Fiercefang has a very good reason to distrust MumbleClan) ;)

HavenClan:

📜(How does your clan’s warrior code differ from other clans?)

A: How strictly or leniently the clan follows the warrior code heavily depends on who is leader, not so much StarClan’s influence. HavenClan follows the same codes as the other clans, including the medicine cat code, but a few rules may not be followed as heavily, or loopholes may be exploited. For example, Sunstar is a naturally strict leader— mainly out of fear of disappointing her clanmates and StarClan —so significant rules such as helping any kit in need regardless of origin and who should be fed first are heavily enforced. This also applies to the medicine cat code— in Sunstar’s case, she doesn’t condone medicine cats breaking the code, and will shun any if it means setting an example. Meanwhile, another leader (such as Fluffystar, for example) may be much more lenient and even encouraging towards healers having a mate and kits.

A leader’s view on the warrior code greatly influences the behavior the rest of the clan shows regarding said code. However, at the end of the day, it’s StarClan who judges a cat’s actions, and decides whether or not they’re worthy of joining their ranks or being sent to the Place of No Stars.

🌟(Which cat has the strongest StarClan/Dark Forest connections?)

A: Out of the cats currently in the clan, I’d have to say Asterghost which, yeah I know generic answer, but none of the other cats really have that ‘spark’. Sunstar may have been picked by StarClan to be HavenClan’s new leader, but she isn’t really in communication with them, not like the medicine cat. Also, Asterghost has been a full-time healer for a LOOONG time, so it makes sense he’s more in-tune to omens, dreams and messages from StarClan than others.

World:

🐇(What are typical prey you’d find in the territory? Rare or unusual prey?)

A: I had to do some research for this question lol. Since a huge part of their territory consists of tide pools and the beach, it’s easy to find animals like crabs, shorebirds, fish, and clams/scallops to hunt, though younger cats are warned to stay away from other beach visitors like seals and sea lions, as their size and resistance to injury makes them formidable opponents. Rarely, birds like storks and herons may visit the beach too, which require some teamwork to kill, but it’s worth it as they’re considered delicacies. In regards to the stretches of other territories they share with the other clans, such as the outskirts of the nearby forest and moorland, you’d find prey you’d typically expect, like mice, birds, rabbits, and squirrels, though they aren’t hunted as often.

🪴(What herbs are most important to your med cats? Rare or magical herbs unique to your world?)

A: Asterghost doesn’t prioritize one herb over another, as he believes all herbs are important, but there are a few that are very limited in their territory. Rosemary, sea lavender, and borage are a few such examples. Fortunately, he’s able to find a lot more herbs further away from the beachside, but when push comes to shove, he won’t hesitate to cross borders if any of his clanmates are in trouble. As for any rare of magical herbs, afraid you won’t find any here.

⏩(How far ahead do you play in clangen? How far ahead do you draw/write?)

A: So, HavenClan has actually been alive for a long time lol! I created it in-game earlier last year, and I’m currently on moon 60 I think? So I have a lot of catching up to do, but having so much knowledge of the future makes me anticipate y’all’s reactions to future subplots and characters 👀 If I eventually catch up to where I left off, then I’d probably play 5 or so moons ahead before starting on any drawings just in case clangen throws any curveballs at me.

✏️(Who’s your favorite character to draw/write?)

A: This will definitely change in the future, but I’m forced to pick between my current cats, so I’d probably say my favorite to draw is Asterghost (cause he’s a grumpy emo guy yk), and my favorite to write is a tie between Blazefoot and Iciclespots. Blazefoot is just a very laid back cat who seems to have the solution to everything, and there will be countless examples of her being a supportive, strong, and badass warrior 😎

I know the cats aren’t very fleshed out yet, but imo, Iciclespots is very underrated in terms of her life. When I rebooted my story, I definitely tried including her more into events and such in my notes, cause I wanted to give each of my cats a chance to have their own dilemmas and experiences, and not simply be a background character to eventually die off. Granted, her life isn’t the most interesting, but that’s the best part: I can mold her into someone that my audience may like or relate to :]

Sweetfreckle (15) confessed to Slopestar again but got rejected again :(

Slopestar(16) lost a life because of her mangled leg :(

MOON 12:

Sweetfreckle(16) recovered from whitecough.

Slopestar(17) challenged Sweetfreckle to spar with them.

Slopestar and Sweetfreckle find a kit in the snow and rush it back to camp to try and heal it. Although, they realise that without a medicine cat their chances of survival are slim.

Heartkit: Tom, 5 moons.

MOON 13:

Heartkit (6) took it upon himself to become a medicine cat apprentice. Although he didn't have much luck with the training he knew he needed to take the role.

Sweetfreckle (17) decided to go with Heartpaw to look at some herbs. He remembered some from when he was in his old clan. Sweetfreckle does not like the idea of being bossed around by an apprentice though.

Slopestar (18) went on a border patrol when she was suddenly ambushed by a gang of rogues. Knowing she stood no chance she ran back to camp.

MOON 14:

Slopestar (19) wanted to go and explore the territory with Sweetfreckle (18)

Sweetfreckle and Heartpaw(7) discuss the clan history.

Slopestar and Sweetfreckle decide the Heartpaw is capable enough to go out on his own and the two of them decide to hunt together. They hunt around the twoleg nest and steal some chickens.

Heartpaw on his first patrol alone found the bodies of a queen and her kits in the snow. He desperately tried to save them but to no avail. Heartpaw was found by Slopestar in shock and overwhelmed. She reassured him that unfortunately he will not be able to save every cat but he didn't reply.

MOON 15:

Sweetfreckle(19)... got rejected... again...

Heartpaw(8) recovered from his shock.

Slopestar(20) complains that Sweetfreckle never does anything helpful.

Sweetfreckle doesn't want Slopestar to overwork herself.

Heartpaw thinks Sweetfreckle was nice to him today.

Sweetfreckle, remembering Slopestar's complaints, saw a rabbit on the Larchclan border. He couldn't smell any cat so he went for the hunt. That was when Squirrelwhisker of Larchclan padded out. She knew what he intended to do... Embarrassed he padded back to Slopestar with his tail between his legs but instead of scolding him she reassured him.

Heartpaw was determined to go on his own patrol again. So he went out to harvest some Oak leaves but the trees didn't look safe and he didn't want to risk it so he returned empty handed.

I was planning out how each clan chooses their name. Originally, it was based on each clan choosing something that is common in their territory. The cliffs in CliffClan, the streams of StreamClan, the heathers of HeatherClan, and the oaks of OakClan? They are in a coniferous forest. Sure oaks can live there, but why would I name them after that? I don’t know how I did not realize this. Originally they were CedarClan, but that made their abbreviation the same as CliffClan’s (CC). I am considering some alternatives, such as another tree or Aster (there is a special reason why), but they all have their own problems. With this dilemma, this is the perfect time to explain my rules when it comes to creating clan names. Get excited!

1) No matching abbreviations: The most simple rule and the one that kicked CedarClan out of the picture because CliffClan is never changing. I like to use shortcuts, like CC or HC and there will be confusion over who I am talking about if they have the same abbreviation. ClC/CeC could work, but it is too much work for me.

2) No matching “categories”: I do not want the clans to have their names based on the same category. For example [redacted]Clan and StreamClan both have the same types of trees, but they are not allowed to be named PineClan and LarchClan. This can be very broad. For example, snow, cloud, ice, bank, river, and mist are all not options because StreamClan is already water related. This is why I struggle with Aster. It matches HeatherClan’s flower name

3) Unwanted prefixes = good clan name: While technically any of these can be prefixes and if it came to it I would be fine with each of them, I prefer to use prefixes that I do not like for cats for the clans. In my clans, it is very disrespectful to name a cat after a clan. Even outsiders who just happen to have the name of a clan will not be referred to as it. In order to keep as many good prefixes as possible, the clans get the bad ones. CliffClan and StreamClan are the most obvious of this. This cannot be done for all the clans because canon took all the good ones. For example “heather” is a fine prefix, but I gave it to HeatherClan anyway because I like the name. They can’t be HillClan or MeadowClan because CliffClan is too close. This is why I struggle to just pick another tree for [redacted]Clan. It was already hard enough to get rid of Cedar or Oak, but Pine, Larch, Fir? I refuse.

4) Too many syllables: One thing I hate in warrior names is having one part of the name being more than 1 syllable. It can be okay sometimes, but I avoid it. This is why I don’t name them HemlockClan and give HeatherClan a new flower name. Even though this would be the simplest name because rule 2 gives [redacted]Clan pretty much just tree name, I really hate it. I probably will not have too many Dragonflypaws or Dandelionpaws because I can’t stand that many syllables.

5) No animal names: I just don’t really like the clans being named after animals. This would also be perfect because if I named them BadgerClan or something it would not break any rules. It would kind of break the hidden side of rule 3 because I would prefer to keep the animal names for the cats, but it does not actually break it.

6) No weird names: I might just have too many rules for these names. This is incredibly subjective, but I do not want any weird names. No GrassClan, DirtClan, WoodClan, BarkClan, or anything of the sort, I don’t really know why, but I just don’t like these names. I don’t even like them as prefixes for cats, besides Bark.

7) No canon names: Kind of obvious, but I am not going to use any of the clan names from canon.

If you have any ideas, please help me. I really need a new name from [redacted]Clan. I want 4 clans, so I can’t just get rid of them. It will probably have to break one of the rules. Rules 1/5/7 are non-negotiable, so they must be followed. Thank you!! :)

SickleClan Moon 13

It’s the start of year 2 and Brownpaw has earned her warrior name of Browncloud and has become a great teacher.

Checking in: Oatstone is having a hard day, Daisyfur heard a rumor about Deadpath(I’m pretty sure this is the second time he’s been gossiped about), Curlystripe is curious about other clans, Scargorse is sharing prey with Deadpath, Cinderspeckle is feeling down, Cinderstar is hoping for a sign from StarClan, Sandcry is also curious about other clans, Deadpath is eating some freshkill(With Scargorse evidently) and Browncloud is having a good day.

Patrols: Browncloud goes out on her solo patrol and meets a LarchClan patrol at the border but nobody is hostile. Despite the lack of outright hostilities the situation turns awkward fast and she hunts elsewhere. Sandcry, Oatstone and Cinderspeckle go on patrol together and it quickly devolves into ghost stories leaving everyone on edge. A branch snaps and the whole patrol runs back to camp. Scargorse, Cinderstar and Curlystripe go out and don’t find anything useful it was still a fun outing and they learned a lot.

This is the first death that I actually considered reversing because I was a little invested in Pepperback, but I decided to let it happen. In my head this is the first death that actually hit the whole of LarchClan hard, and not just one or two cats.

I think I’m going to do allegiances again because quite a few cats changed traits, I think possibly due to the update, so expect that!

🎭 Does your clan have any specific traditions, rituals, or holidays?

Right now, not really! LarchClan is still very new, and so they haven’t had much time to really create any holidays or rituals. They’ve also made sure not to bring any holidays from other clans into their own culture, since they want to emphasize that they’re their own clan, and not just an offshoot of another. Individual cats wouldn’t be stopped from celebrating in accordance with their old clan’s traditions, but so far, no one really does.

One thing I can comment on that I think would fall under the ‘traditions’ label is the way special ranks ( healer, campkeeper, mediator if there ever is one ) are chosen. As a general rule, there should always be at least two of any given rank. Briarpatch specifically chose Guppychest from the young cats to be her apprentice when LarchClan was formed. The healer role is especially picky, thanks to Briarpatch’s strictness about the role: an apprentice, should they chose to apply for healer, has to spend three moons in the den gaining experience before going out on patrols. If a cat has certain traits they would not be allowed to continue, as well as they have to bring new skills to the role that current healers don’t have, unless they have the healing skill. If they don’t match these criteria by the time they’re 9 moons old, they’re denied the position and have to pursue something else.

Since it’s such a big deal to have at least two of every rank at once so that the role is carried on even if something happens to the senior cat, there is a lot of pressure on Brownember to convince one of the current kits to be her apprentice.

It is also generally agreed upon that a cat must choose their role young. If a cat decides to switch their role to a special one, they are allowed to, but they’re considered helpers and not fully that role, and are not allowed to train apprentices or be considered the senior cat in that role. Should a cat change their role they retake an apprentice name and have a short training period, then are given a new name.

💔 Which cats have the most complicated relationship with each other?/make you go feral?

Ghostskitter Swanfreckle and Brownember. They’re just such a dysfunctional family and honestly it’s so interesting to me. Ghostskitter came from WildClan where having a mate and kits gives you status and where the molly does all of the child rearing and then he ditched his mate and newborn kits to come to LarchClan where neither things were true. And so when his ex-mate dumps half of their litter with him he has no idea what to do with them, so for the most part he just leaves them alone. This obviously does not do good things for their relationship. It’s not until their late kithood that he actually attempts to reach out, and while Swanfreckle was willing to give him a chance to be family if not a father, Brownember just wants nothing to do with him. The sisters are really close so Ghostskitter tries to use Swan to talk to Brown but it really doesn’t work and just makes Ghost and Brown dislike each other. I’m really hoping for more prompts from the game so I can expand on these guys because I think it’s interesting.

🗺️ What does the territory look like? Any unique landmarks?

Okay this question I actually don’t really have an answer for. I hate drawing backgrounds so I haven’t really had to give much thought to the territory. They live in the lakeside camp in Clangen, so they’re by water, but most of their territory is forest. Probably temperate mixed deciduous and coniferous, with larches of course. I’d like to think there’s a small area that’s almost entirely paper birch because I think it’d look cool.

Hello y’all!! It’s been a while!

So yeah, I started this comic during winter break, and when I got back to school I disappeared lol, but I do want to continue with it! So, hopefully I’ll have time to keep updating it, even if it’s a little slower than before ( or a lot slower )
