After All by Alex G This is the opening track from Alex G's latest album, God Save the Animals. I only heard it for the first time recently and instantly the melody haunted me.

Santé by Stromae I'd never heard of Stromae before but I adored the performance of this song on Tiny Desk Concert.

Tiger is Coming by Leenalchi This song is so cool. I found it on TikTok. Leenalchi are a Korean band that perform traditional pansori blended with pop music.

The Emperor's New Clothes by Sinéad O'Connor Everyone knows her cover of Nothing Compares 2 U, but there are better songs on that stunner of an album. The Emperor's New Clothes has always been one of my favourites for how unflinchingly real it is – "You asked for the truth and I told you."

Oh man, the whole book is a disaster. The only reason I’m still reading is I just can’t look away from the train wreck.

The MacGuffin child crap is really pissing me off, though. It’s such a tired trope, and rooted in sexism: The single/childless Action Girl meets a mysterious kid, feels an Instantaneous Connection, discovers her latent Maternal Instincts and becomes determined to protect what she now suddenly considers to be Her Child at all costs -- and even when they are parted, she is left wiser and more whole because as we all know no woman can truly be fulfilled unless she experiences parental bliss. baaaaarf.

To put it simply I love him because he loves me. That’s it. Don’t you wish all relationships were summed up so easily? . It’s coming up on the holiday season so I figured now is as good a time as any to announce PUPPIES ARE NOT PRESENTS, THEY ARE COMMITMENTS!!!!

This is Boone; he’s my fabulous two year old Labradork™️ and he was someone's Christmas puppy. By February, he was four months old and fifty pounds and acted like, heaven forbid, a dog. He was dropped off on the side of the road, and picked up by our local humane society.

Boone is a lucky one. He was found and adopted quickly and I adore him and spoil him rotten (I fought two friends and several middle aged women for him, and he's absolutely worth it) but his story could have ended so badly, and despite his happy life he still has severe separation anxiety and numerous other issues that stem from that early abandonment. So unless you are CERTAIN that the person who is recieving your gift (or you, if you're getting it for your kids, because YOU as the adult are ultimately responsible for this decision):

1. Wants a 10-15 year commitment to another living creature

2. Can handle caring for and properly training a rambunctious puppy

3. Won't move or have a baby and decide they no longer want the dog

DONT GIVE THEM A PUPPY!

Trust me, the lasting impact abandonment will have on that animals life is not worth your cute Facebook reaction video of your kids on Christmas morning.
