Have 4 more star wars fic recs with a little of what I liked about them. 2x Codywan, one Jango/ Obi Wan and one bly/ayla all with really interesting stuff going on in the story alongside the ship.

This one is great!!! I don't actually know anything about the series it's based on and I still loved it which I think shows how great it is!!!! I love a detective au. Cody's character is fab. The author does a great job of translating canon in to a 1920s esque vibe. The chemistry between Obi Wan and Cody is great and there's a satisfying ending to the mystery at the end!!! What more can you want?

I love this one so much! The vibes are great. The theme of healing is really distinct throughout and it's so beautiful. The characters are fun (including some great ocs) There are some great changes of perspective so you really get to see the impact Cody's running away has had and!! If that isn't enough, it's a really great ending. The story arc is great and manages to weave so many things together. There's Cody's personal journey of coming to terms with his past and healing and alongside him, everyone else is healing. There's action, a kidnapping occurs and a rescue has to be planned. And! Codys work with the agricorps is fascinating too and has its own arc tied in to the rest. The ending is hopeful. Honestly this fic has it all.

This is so great. Aayla is in the temple when order 66 hits. She manages to save some of the Jedi and with Padme, Master Nu and Vokara Che, they flee and begin to build a new home. I love what this fic does with the clones. It really considers how things would be for them post chip and deals with the guilt and fear they might feel even when released from the chips hold. Its heartbreaking but feels very real. There's a look at the hurt that can be caused by 'im doing this for you' 'but i never asked you to!'. And throughout the whole fic there's a really heavy underlying feeling of love. Platonic, familial and romantic. It's just really lovely. The ending is very hopeful. I love it.

Summary: Jedi Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi is trusted with his first solo mission: escorting the Neimoidian ambassador and her niece in her luxury cruise across the Core, and making sure that the mysterious assassin after her doesn’t add her name to their already lengthy list. Madam Netrith is old, clever and arrogant: she doesn’t believe herself to be in danger, and regards Obi-Wan’s presence as more of an annoyance than anything else.

The already hard job becomes harder once Obi-Wan discovers he’s supposed to share a cabin with one Jan Naasade, Concordian Journeyman Protector, for the trip's duration.

This is one of my fav fics. It really hits that whodunit on a luxury cruise so well. The world building is fab and the story takes us to some really interesting settings. The tension/ building familiarity between Jango and Obi Wan is fab, I love how these run alongside each other. The tension of them not knowing who the other is, is done so well, I was on the edge of my seat. I love what the author does with Jango's character, he has artificial lungs after damage caused by the spice ship which is a really interesting consideration I've never seen before and the author does a really good job of showing the difficulty attatched to something like that rather than doing the scifi 'technology made them better than ever and this will never be visited again'. The feeling of luxury and that 'how the other half live' is done really well and the author has done a great job of showing in small ways how unfamiliar Jango and Obi Wan feel in these settings in their own ways. Jango and Obi Wan are both uber competent at their jobs which i love and yet the story doesn't let you forget that this is Obi Wans first solo mission, in lots of little ways. There are so many twists and you can just feel them!!!! Plus it has a really satisfying ending.

1. Favourite fic you wrote this year

I have super conflicting feelings about this. I'm really self-critical, as anyone who knows me knows, and probably a year ago I'd have been tempted to reply that I didn't like any of them. But I'm growing, and I won't. Of course, I asked @tackytigerfic first, because they know my brain better than I do, and they say it has to be Nor All That Glisters (E, 111k). I'm inclined to agree, because it's a fucking NOVEL, and it was my first ever fic, and I wrote it off the cuff, and I like the pacing, and the plot, and my Draco, and my OC. But I still feel a bit conflicted because there are parts I'd do differently even now. Short fics are easier to love, because with longer ones you're always going to have less favourite parts, I think. Of my medium length fics I have the fondest feelings for Crash (Into Me), and very short I do love Dangerous.

24. Favourite fic you read this year

Look, I'll say up front that there's no way I can possibly choose one. BUT I've been humming and hawing about making some kind of end of year reclist, and I wasn't going to because a) I haven't read even a quarter of what I wanted to this year. (especially longfics, I've read barely even a handful), and b) I knew I'd leave out some fab ones and I didn't want to hurt people's feelings etc etc. There is obviously no objective 'best fics of 2021' list. fab nygmobblepot moments that remind you of kd uwu

I want to use this moment to be sorry to everyone that follows me but keeps seeing my blog full of Nygmobs/Smaylor instead of kaisoo. I usually don’t get attached to otps like this and it happened in an unexpected way for me. But it’s here and I need to compensate for all the years I didn’t watch Gotham and had no idea about Nygmobs spamming everyone and making my heart warm.

But in general, nygmobblepot isn’t a vision of ideal relationship. Both Edward and Oswald (their surnames Cobblepot and Nygma were the ones who originated this name) are stupid and do stupid shit to each other during most of the series. So, a lot of moments related with the actors counterpart (Robin is the actor who plays Oswald and Cory who plays Ed) reminds me of kaisoo more. But a warning here! Although they have a HUGE chemistry on and off screen, they’re mostly friends. Robin is married for almost ten years so it doesn’t mean their closeness is romantic or sexual. But still, some details remind me of kd.

Similarities with nygmobs:

Height difference: it applies to Smaylor as well because it’s their height but it’s really visible in the series. Cory is a bit taller than JI I think and Robin is like 1.65 but KS is not that taller (I can’t believe he’s 1.73 at all, sorry). But, again, this factor is evident during the series and in some moments and it’s cute.

Penguin reference? That’s pretty obvious. Of course I didn’t start shipping nygmobs because one of them is small and has the Penguin nickname but it made so much easier for me to read some of their fics with kd as characters because they fit the profile so much! And also, I believe KD would totally fit the “murder husbands” couple if someone did a fanfic where they just kill everyone. The closest I remember of a fanfic with this criteria is Juice Pouche where Kyungsoo is a vampire and he protects Jongin and Jongin is kind of badass as well. But the kd fandom needs more fics like this. There’s also “(Before the night is over) come see me” where KS is also a vampire and JI a young werewolf but it focuses more on their relationship than a murder husbands idea Gotham shows so well. 

How they met: Gotham’s history has a lot of differences if you compare with other universes, so keep that in mind. In Gotham, Ed works with GCPD but doesn’t feel like himself with the good side. Oswald is the character that spices things up and is a rage of death and destruction and manipulation. But Oswald is infatuated with Jim Gordon (so isn’t the first time it’s implied Penguin is gay) but he goes to the police department to see him. Ed sees him and wants to talk to him no matter the cost. And he does that... And things don’t end that friendly for him because Oswald thinks he’s a weirdo and asks him to fuck off, basically. It reminded me of kd’s first meeting where KS was the one admiring JI all along but JI get frightned. But, during their second meeting, they bond and become friends. For Nygmobs it takes more time for their second meeting but they end up developing and being in good terms :’)

Their personas, sort of: Ed is the tall one, younger and logic. Oswald is the oldest, smaller and that thinks with his heart. I love how JI could show the more logic side of himself during the last few years and, again, while reading Nygmobs fics using kd names, it was easy to fit the profile for me (that was during the time I wasn’t too deep into nygmobs and I didn’t knok them that well. KS looks cold and deatached and that’s why many people got impressed when he said, during Knowing Bros that he would choose love over friendship. He doesn’t play the part but, considering all the context, it fits him pretty well and reading this description of Oswald made me so familiar because it fits KD well. Ofc I don’t know their private lives and whatever but it’s just the impression I had as a viewer and random person;

Drama issue: when I say drama here, it’s related with how people percieve the two OTPs and how different people visualize LGBT relationship in media. Nygmobblepot had a lot of drama involved because they’re the fucking Riddler and Penguin, two of the most famous Batman villains. People saw them in different sorts of media before and others idolize those characters because of videogames and comics. So, when Oswald mentioned expressedly that he was in love with Edward, it caused an uproar in the fandom. People accused the producers and Robin of messing with the comic canon because the fucking Penguin became gay??? Robin was outspoken about the homophobia behind those statements since he’s a gay man himself but yeah, the drama existed. Part of the people invovled with the series rooted for Nygmobblepot, including some writers and the actors (Cory was the one with ambiguous messages about the nature of their relationship but it’s not even close what happened with other series like Supergirl, Supernatural and Sherlock). But it was aired by FOX, a right wing channel and, as you may imagine, they didn’t become canon per se. Actually, after Oswald said he was in love with Ed and planned on confessing to him, the writers presented a clone of Ed’s ex girlfriend with no explanation and purpose, only to separate them for most part of the series future. After that, some people seemed to have FORGOTTEN Oswald was once in love with Edward, rationalizing many things that are hard to explain with a “bro explanation”, they had a scene where the characters would have evolved even more but it was CUTTED and CHANGED and execs added the sentence “we’re brothers” to make EXPLICIT that Nygmobblepot’s relationship wouldn’t be interpreted as a romance at the end of the series (but, honestly, the actors went for the romance path anyway, the deleted scenes and the final episode can’t convince me otherwise).

What’s related with KD, may you ask? I think you’re familiar with all the drama KD faced since 2016 and how many stuff exploded during that time. How many parts are involved into creating a certain image and shifting it to be appealing and “friendly” is similar with what happens with idols. It’s no secret now about many scandals of bullying and other issues that are considered problematic and how they need to be pushed under the rug for companies so idols can make money and be profitable. Especially for male idols, it’s important that they are viewed as desirable and an object of the fans affections. That’s why he needs to be handsome and kind and look like a person that doesn’t exist. If an idol is openly gay, this person isn’t viewed by the major public with the same interest because they can’t fit the fantasy. That’s why scandals involving idols being gay need to be forgotten and deleted from people’s minds, otherwise that celebrity is ostracized. Although we tend to see the Ocident as “progressive”, there’s similar things happening in that industry. If a celebrity is openly LGBT, they don’t receive certain roles or opportunities because of it. There’s still a huge stigma that needs to be broken and we, as a society, are so far way from it. But recognizing those differences exist it’s a step forward.

Similarities with Smaylor

For me, one of the reasons Nygmobblepot works so well is because of the actors. They portrait a good chemistry because of their friendship off screen and some non verbal signs they display around each other are amazing. Those are things that remind me more of KD as we see them in a lot of moments. So, I wanted space to show those comparisons below:

Mutual admiration: it’s something both Smaylor and KD display a LOT and is extrememly outspoken. I really love watching their old interviews because the affection and admiration is so genuine it makes me drawn to them despite not being romantically involved.

The fact the actors came up with their OTP names: people tend to forget that KD’s real otp name (according with Jongin) is dika. Cory also came up with Nygmobblepot name and Smaylor too <3

So, meanwhile Nygmobs has thropies that work a lot with KD AUs, Smaylor has healthy dynamics seen in public appearances KD made. Like I said above, there’s a huge polemic about shipping Smaylor romantically because Robin is married. On social media, is visible he loves his husband and it’s pretty cute to see. Cory himself mentioned that their relationship was sort of a platonic friendship (whatever that means) but it’s really genuine in terms of affections and display of admiration, something KD has as well.

Probably someone will question that it may changed the way I see KD or if now I ship them as bros. Nothing about that changed. With KD, although there are some similar details, there are internal AND external factors that made me support them in a romantic perspective in the first place. And it didn’t change. 

But both of them (Nygmobs too) make me feel that I’m testimoning something genuine, which is really hard in both kpop and media universes. In one side, we have a LOT of fanservice. And, in the other, it’s mostly a work interaction with lots of queerbating. Yes, Gotham has queerbating aspects in it but it’s not full of queerbating, if it makes sense. The message the actors and some writers wanted to convey are there and really display a romantic direction with character evolution and growth. And, considering the way media is nowadays, it’s nice to see.

An Angsty as fuck fic for Fabian Prewett and Amethyst Black. Amethyst is my OC. She is Sirius’ twin and the only girl marauder. Her animagus is an arctic fox called Zerry. This is a war time fic where they are all 20. It is set a little after Gideon dies, toward the end of the war. Fabian breaks up with Meth because he doesn’t want her to hurt in case he dies too and he refuses to listen to any sort of reason. There is major heartbreak.

A/N: first of all, I am so sorry. If you had formed any kind of attachment to Amethyst, you would hate me for this. Sorry? Nobody likes a war or the destruction it brings. The Wizarding War against death eaters was taking the lives of many young witches and wizards. Just last week, the Order had lost a few of its members. Amethyst had lost her friends, and Fabian had lost his brother. It had been a tough few days for everyone. However, the war had not slowed down for any of them. The missions had not stopped despite the harsh circumstances. Amethyst sat at her desk at the Headquarters of the Order, finishing up her latest mission report. Her dark hair was tied in a messy bun. Once done, she filed it away and gathered all her belongings. The small watch on her wrist, a graduation gift from her wonderful boyfriend, told her it was a little before midnight.

“Hey, Marls?” Amethyst called, letting her hair free of its ties.

“Yes, luv?” Marlene Mckinnon had been a dear friend of Meth since they were both eleven. She had grown into a brave and beautiful young woman.

“I’m going to head home. If you need anything, let me know, alright?”

“I’ll be fine. Enjoy your night off.” Marlene then winked at her causing Amethyst to chuckle. She really admired Marlene for her ability to joke at a time like this. The two girls said their goodbyes and Amethyst left Marlene to finish her patrolling shift for the night.

Amethyst Apparated outside the apartment she shared with her boyfriend of the last four years, Fabian Prewett. She slid her key into the brown wooden door and pushed it open. She put all her stuff on the chair in the corner and tossed her jacket on the bed.

“Sweetheart?”

“I’m out here.” Fabian’s voice came from the balcony. Amethyst poured them some hot tea and joined her boyfriend outside. She put their glasses on the railing and slid her arm through Fabian’s.

“Couldn’t sleep?” She asked. Fabian shook his head. Amethyst slowly ran her hand through his hair and then kept her head on his shoulder. “Want to talk about it?”

Fabian let out a long sigh. “Meth, what are we doing?”

“We’re fighting a war is what we’re doing.”

“No, I mean, what are we doing?” Amethyst frowned slightly.

“What are you talking about? Is this about Gideon?”

“Not this time!” Fabian’s voice rose in volume. “I see the fear in your eyes when I don’t come back on time. I know how terrified you were when you heard about Gideon. I know how much it scares you that I could just not come back one day. I can’t keep doing that to you.”

“What...What are you saying?” Amethyst inquired, even though she already had an idea of what’s coming.

“You know what I’m saying, Meth. Don’t make me say it.” Amethyst dropped her hands from Fabian’s face and took a step back. 

“You’re breaking up with me.”

“Amethyst…”

“No! What do you think this will achieve, Fabian? You think breaking up with me will make me hate you? I loved you before we even got together. Why would that change now?”

“I am so sorry.” Fabian’s voice was heavy.

“Would you not care? If I...If I died tomorrow, would you not care anymore?”

“Of course, I would. You know I would.”

“Then why the fuck are my feelings any different?!” Amethyst yelled, tears now streaming down her face. Fabian could do nothing but look at her with an apologetic expression on his face. Meth then spoke again, her voice down to nothing but a broken whisper, “That’s how you want to do it then?”

“It’s the only way I know how.” Amethyst stepped closer to Fabian and put her hands on his shoulders.

“Kiss me,” She whispered, against his mouth. “If I do die tomorrow, I want that to be the last thing you did to me.”

Fabian snaked his arms around her waist and pulled her closer. He then leaned down and kissed her as though he never had before. Just for one second, Amethyst forgot what was going on.

“I love you, Fabian Prewett.” Meth whispered through her tears as they broke apart.

“I love you, too.” Amethyst shot him a small smile as she headed back inside, grabbed her jacket, and headed out the door.

Once she had walked out that door, however, Amethyst realised that she had no idea what to do next or where to go. The only place that came to mind was her brother’s, Sirius’, place. Sirius had been by her side her whole life. He had always sheltered her from their parents. So she closed her eyes and she Apparated.

As Amethyst stood outside their front door, she noticed the lights inside were off. However, despite her better judgement, she knocked on their door. She just didn’t want to be alone at the moment. After a few seconds, she saw the light switch on inside and heard footsteps coming toward the door.

“Who is it?” She heard a sleepy voice she recognized and Remus Lupin’s, Sirius’ long term boyfriend and one of Amethyst’s best friends.

“It’s Meth. Amethyst.”

There was a short pause before Remus continued, “What did you say when I first told you about liking your brother?”

“I said, ‘About damn time.’ And then I dog piled you.” Amethyst’s voice was heavy, laced with emotion. She heard the locks click and the door swung open. Remus looked at her tear-stained face and immediately pulled her into the apartment.

“Amethyst! What’s wrong?” He asked her as he sat her down on the sofa.

The dark-haired girl shook her head. “Can I just stay here for tonight?”

“Did Fabian do something? SIRIUS! GET IN HERE!”

It didn’t take too long for Amethyst’s twin brother to walk out of the bedroom he shared with Remus.

“Meth? What’s wrong?! It’s 1 AM.”

Amethyst told him about Fabian, tears streaming down her stormy grey eyes as her brother wrapped his arms around her.

It had been a few months since Fabian had broken up with Amethyst. It had gotten a little easier for her to run into him during the meetings of the Order. Not easy, no, but easier. She had moved in with her brother and Remus, both of whom were currently on a mission with Lily and James and a few other members of the order. That left Meth alone to babysit the Potters’ one-year-old son, Harry. She slowly lifted the baby from the bassinet Lily had dropped off and propped him up on her lap.

“It’s just you and me, kid.” Harry’s arms reached out to grab the glasses off her face. She laughed. “Can you say ‘Meth’, Harry? Hm?”

Baby Harry Potter looked at her with his big green eyes. Then, with all the power in his little body, he said, “Meh.”

“Close enough.”

“Please don’t teach my son how to say ‘Meth’.” Amethyst turned around and saw her redhead friend standing in the doorway. James, Remus and Sirius were with her too.

“You’re back early. How did the hunt go?” Meth asked, handing Harry to his mother.

“Still no news on Peter.” Remus prompted. Peter Pettigrew was a friend of theirs from Hogwarts. He had joined the Order with them but had been missing for quite some time.

“I hope he’s alright.” James said, clearly worried for their friend. Lily reached out and took her husband’s hand in her own, attempting to comfort him. Amethyst smiled at her friends, and the little boy with the bright eyes. She knew that whatever happens, she could always count on them to be there for her.

December, 1981

The war was over. Losing James and Lily was one of the hardest things Amethyst had ever dealt with. However, Sirius, Remus and and baby Harry Potter were always there for her. As she was for them. The last two months had been tough, but their life was slowly getting back to normal. Amethyst was at Hogsmeade, doing a grocery run for the house. She had picked up some chocolate for Harry (and Remus). Her last stop, of course, was Rosemerta’s.

“Hey, darling. Two fire whiskeys and a butterbeer, please.” She said to the woman behind the counter as she dug her pockets for galleons.

“Amethyst?” She heard a voice behind her. She turned around to a tall, ginger boy staring at her with his blue eyes.

“Fabian, uh, hi.”

“You...you look good.” He flashed her a smile, the kind that once made her heart flutter. Hell, it still did. She nodded and there was a silence between them. “Amethyst, I’m really sorry.”

“For what?”

“For what happened to James and Lily. And for what I did. I should have been there for you.”

“Fab, that was six months ago.” Amethyst turned to grab her drinks off of the counter, trying not to meet Fabian’s eye.

“I’ve fucking missed you, Meth. Everyday for the last six months. Letting you go was the stupidest decision I ever made.” He said, once they had left Rosmerta’s tavern.

“Fab…” Amethyst noticed he was standing a lot closer to her than he was a few moments ago. Suddenly, Amethyst was 15 again and all her feelings came rushing back to her. Before she had the chance to question her decision, she stood on her toes and kissed Fabian. She had almost forgotten how good that felt. His arms instinctively went to her waist and hers went around his neck. As they broke away, Amethyst buried her face into his neck while her hands still rested on his shoulders. They stayed like that, with his arms still around her hips, for a few moments until Fabian spoke again.

“Meth?”

“Hmm?”

“Would you like to grab a drink with me on Friday?” She looked at him and laughed. Genuine laughter, the kind she hadn’t felt in a very long time.

“I’d love to.”

3, 16, 17 for the book asks!

Hello! Awesome questions, thanks for the ask :))

3. What were your top five books of the year?

In no particular order:

a. The Space Between Worlds by Micaiah Johnson. Sci-fi dystopian world, multiverse, f/f romance, a vivid world; a masterpiece of craft.

b. Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall. Contemporary m/m romance. So funny and so British! I love his writing, and this one is a delight!

c. Brothers of the Wild North Sea by Harper Fox. Historical m/m romance. AMAZING. Stunning writing. I loved this one so much.

d. The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang. Epic fantasy. Brutal. Loved it.

e. Slippery Creatures by KJ Charles. Historical m/m romance. I’ve long raved about KJC and she’s done it again. I loved this series (Book 2 is out too) and this pairing. Kim owns my heart.

6. Was there anything you meant to read, but never got to?

Loads! My GR book total was 70-odd books by end of June. I have since read.... another 6? lol

I was planning to read the rest of the Poppy War trilogy (mentioned above); I wanted to pick up the Lymond books again (stuck at Pawn for over a year); I read the first Temeraire book and wanted to read the rest. Did any of it happen? No.

(I did read lots of MDZS fic instead, and watched endless bts youtube clips, and just fangirled about wangxian a great deal, so no time for books lol)

17. Did any books surprise you with how good they were?

I keep raving about this one, but I didn’t expect to like The Space Between Worlds  so much. I didn’t actually know what to expect when I picked it up, just that it was a multiverse story. Same with Fox’s romance, Brothers of the Wild North Sea. Her prose is exquisite, very much to my liking. The book is longer and differently structured than other romances, and it was just fab.
