Hiii!! Could you possibly do headcanons of overblot boys + adeuce with a s/o who likes to collect figures or like manga or something along those lines? Also I love your writing you’re awesome sauce. feel free to delete or ignore if you don’t wanna do it!! I understand :3
<3<3 ofc
*ੈ✩‧₊˚ collector! reader
type of post: headcanons characters: riddle, ace, deuce, leona, azul, jamil, vil, idia, malleus additional info: romantic or platonic, reader is gender neutral, reader is yuu
Tumblr media
looking at... [vaguely gestures to Heartslabyul] all that, I can't imagine Riddle has any grounds to complain about knick-knacks or clutter. he literally lives in a minimalist's worst nightmare. he also gives the impression of a collector of odd trinkets. like stamps or antique tea cups. grandma vibes. probably gets you a nice display cabinet for your things
*ੈ✩‧₊˚
Ace is a sixteen year old boy who balls and thinks of himself as a lady's man. and, I mean, he loves you, but you can tell what he's about to say before he even opens his mouth. weeeeeeb... then he saves up all year just to gift you that one ridiculously priced figure for your birthday. like I said, he loves you, he just has a very... defensive temperament
*ੈ✩‧₊˚
I feel like Deuce is a really good listener (or, at least, he knows how to be quiet when you're talking, unlike a certain other Heartslabyul first year), even if he doesn't quite get it. besides maybe Jack, he's the most willing to watch your favorite shows with you, read your mangas together, hear about each individual trinket you own... even if he still doesn't understand. it makes you happy <3
*ੈ✩‧₊˚
Leona is more of a meh guy. "what do you want, a cookie?" is probably in his top ten favorite expressions. things to say when he doesn't care about something. and. listen. he cares about you, he does, but he's not really the type to pretend. he'll let you talk about your collection, though. as long as you're happy with him, you won't seek out Idia and become completely intolerable (his words, not mine!)
*ੈ✩‧₊˚
Azul is having flashbacks to all the junk that Jade and Floyd hoard. but, hey: at least your collection isn't of broken toasters or wild mushrooms. he can respect the pride you take in your hobbies, and the care you... wait, how much does all this cost?
...yeah. okay, he understands. definitely not toasters or mushrooms. your room is practically a museum
*ੈ✩‧₊˚
[Jamil voice] "once you're done playing with your toys will you come help me clean up the lounge"
no, he doesn't get it. you haven't said how much all of this costs because you think he might have a heart attack if he saw the numbers, and you keep your belongings tidy enough for him not to stress. so he doesn't complain
(and also because he knows they mean a great deal to you)
*ੈ✩‧₊˚
[Vil voice] "once you're done playing with your toys will you clean up the lounge" lol
he's not exactly jumping for joy when you spend all your allowance on plastic merchandise and picture books. I mean, he's already had to lend you his winter coat, and there was that week you had to stay at Pomefiore because the water at Ramshackle was out... but making purchases seems to make you happy, so he begrudgingly accepts it
there are worse hobbies to have, after all. [side-eyeing Rook]
*ੈ✩‧₊˚
I don't even want to write Idia's part. I'm afraid he'll materialize in my room and start fangirling over this (rip idia shroud you would have loved x readers)
but seriously, he's been recommending you his favorite mangas and animes and games. he probably buys you authentic figures that are thousands of thaumarks on a whim 'cause you kinda like the character. very sweet. very thoughtful. when should I book your wedding. etc
*ੈ✩‧₊˚
you'd think that Malleus would be astonished? WRONG this guy lives with Lilia "hip with the kids" Vanrouge. who is not only a hoarder, but someone who most certainly has a shelf of manga and figures from his favorite games somewhere in the cavernous hole he calls a room. Malleus has probably gotten him one for his birthday (after the 5 hours it took for him to figure out how to buy things online). so like. it's no big deal to him. if you ever mention wanting new manga or figures or... anything... he will give you twice the amount of thaumarks necessary. he's like that

sebek and his big ol' heart
Y’all thought I would be writing an extensive analysis on [REDACTED] or Skully but JOKE’S ON YOU, I love my lame idiot child Sebek 😭
When I tell you I actually CRIED MULTIPLE TIMES reading his Nightmare Suit vignettes… because all the pieces fit together SO well…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before reading this (long) post, I’d like to ask that you also take your time to read this analysis and this analysis. They will help you understand some of the points I made later regarding Sebek and his internalized racism + how he expresses himself.
Have your recommended reading done? Great, then let’s hop to it!
***Spoilers for Sebek's Nightmare Suit vignettes, book 7, and various other Sebek and Silver card vignettes.***
Sebek is one of those characters that lives in infamy for how much time he takes to get warmed up to. He presents himself as loud and brazen, with these traits often earning him the ire of both in-universe peers and irl fans alike. Worst case scenario, Sebek can be seen as someone who is outright hateful. He’s rude to most people (including Silver, his childhood friend, sometimes), denounces humans, acts like Malleus can do nothing wrong, and doesn’t seem to respect his own father.
Well, I’m here today to tell you those claims are false and that Sebek is actually capable of so, so much love. All you need to really do is look at his Nightmare Suit vignettes—and how well they connect with the rest of his lore—to understand what I mean.
The vignettes start with Jack Skellington finishing a bento that Sally made for him. Sebek tells Jack that he should now return the basket that the bento was delivered in to her and to let her know what he thinks of her meals, but Jack says he can’t because he’s busy with Halloween preparations. Jack asks Sebek and Azul to return the basket in his stead, which they do. They aren't allowed to see Sally because Dr. Finkelstein has locked her up for misbehaving, so they leave the basket. Azul advises that they also pass along Jack's comments (he had called Sally smart, thoughtful, and kind; he often forgets to have meals when he's absorbed with his work, so it's generous for her to prepare a delicious meal like this for him). Sebek loudly refuses, as he believes that hearing these grateful words from Jack himself would be much more meaningful to Sally.
He later confronts Sally at Town Hall and asks to speak with her privately (in an ALLEYWAY lol). There, Sebek flat-out tells Sally that such roundabout tactics will never help her feelings reach Jack because he's way too dense. Of course, she reacts with denial which sends Sebek into a passionate speech about the lengths Sally will go to for love (short of actually speaking about it). She literally threw herself out of a window and put herself in bodily harm to get to Jack when Dr. Finkelstein locked her in her room. She deliberately disobeyed her guardian and brainstormed a way to get out when theoretically she should not have been able to move around freely. If that's not motivated by love, then what is? Sebek declares that it's really annoying to watch Sally dance around the issue and to see her devotion go to waste. IT'S LIKE HE'S WATCHING/READING A ROMCOM AND THE TWO MAIN CHARACTERS KEEP PLAYING THE "WILL THEY, WON'T THEY" CARD... She admits that she can't share her feelings because Sally thinks she's not worthy of someone as impressive as Jack... They're not compatible. And you know how Sebek responds??? BY TELLING SALLY ABOUT WHAT IS BASICALLY TWISTED ROMEO AND JULIET... Sebek reading tragic romance confirmed 😭 He describes the story as one of two lovers whose families do not approve of their union. In desperation, the lovers try to elope--but their plan fails and they return to their warring families. Instead of committing dying like in the original tale, the lovers live the rest of their lives lamenting the outcome and how they can no longer see the person they love most. Sebek shares his own interpretation of the story and its moral: because the lovers gave up hope that they could get their families to accept one another... because they never tried to get their families to get along... because they could not properly articulate their feelings to their families... the lovers could not be together. He is convinced that if they had communicated better, the story would have a happier ending. Sebek is of the firm belief that a story itself cannot come to be without the author wanting to share their own thoughts or feelings; he even suggests that maybe the author of Romeo and Juliet experienced something similar--a regret that resulted from neglecting to express deep-seated feelings. It's not just this book either, Sebek claims to have many stories with a similar theme or miscommunication leading to conflict.
Above all, Sebek stresses to Sally that she must believe in herself and take swift, decisive action. And why does Sebek whole-heartedly throw himself into this belief? Because his own family is living proof that a happy ending is possible if you try hard for it.
If you've paid attention to Sebek lore prior to this, you'll know that he has a human father and a fae mother. Their marriage faced opposition and scrutiny in Briar Valley, a country which is isolated from the rest of the world and suffered greatly from human invaders pilfering the fae lands for resources. One of these sources of opposition and scrutiny is Sebek's own grandfather and his mother's father, Baur. Apparently, Mrs. Zigvolt married Mr. Zigvolt against the wishes of her dad.
Sebek shares even more details with Sally in his Nightmare Suit vignettes. To this day, Baur does NOT approve of his daughter's marriage--but Mrs. Zigvolt doesn't let that get her down! No, she does everything in her power to prove to her father that she made the right choice and she's perfectly content with her life. She'll send letters enclosed with photographs of her family, take her children to visit Baur's home, and invites him to join family dinners. Sebek adds that he's sure his mom made other efforts too--all to try and get Baur to acknowledge her marriage. More recently, Baur seems to have lightened up a little... as in, he always used to turn Mr. Zigvolt away at the door, but now lets him in about once a year (though Baur still avoids eye contact with him and continues to frown). Mrs. Zigvolt stubbornly believes that if she keeps this up, her dad will one day change and bless her marriage with the man she truly loves. Sally commends Sebek and his mother's ability to speak their minds loudly and proudly, but then disparages herself again by saying she can't do the same. Sebek then confesses that he can relate to Sally's frustrations. He related her feelings to his own inadequacy in serving Malleus, the powerful and noble king-to-be of his country. That feeling... Sebek describes it as akin to heartache. But instead of wallowing in that heartache, he pushes himself to close that distance between himself and his idol. If he keeps hesitating, then there is absolutely no way he can catch up to where Malleus is! Sebek must dedicate himself to becoming someone worthy of serving him. He encourages Sally to do the same through both her words and her actions! At that moment, Jack walks in and Sally makes good on Sebek's advice. (This part isn't important to the analysis on Sebek's character, so I'm glossing over it.) The vignettes end with Epel complaining about Sebek being loud as per usual. Sally doesn't take issue with his volume though. She simply giggles and informs Epel that Sebek speaks so loudly and clearly so that his words can resonate with others--like how his words gave her courage.
We have learned new lore about Sebek's grandfather and mother. What does this tell us about Sebek? A lot, actually--if you slate it with all the other lore we have on hand.
We see just how strong of a woman his mother is. I suspect this is where Sebek picked up a lot of his hard-headedness, as well as the tendency to express himself very overtly, from. However, it also speaks to the loving environment he grew up in.
His mother seemingly never questioned her own life choices and never gave up fighting to prove her happiness to a father--and likely an entire community--that rejected her marriage, her husband, and maybe even her children. She fiercely loves and defends her family and the life they have made for themselves. Sebek states that he looks up to her for her magical strength, but that he also admires her principles and strong convictions. Indeed, it was her who ardently pursued Mr. Zigvolt and did not allow naysaying to deter her.
Then there is Mr. Zigvolt. In Sebek's Birthday Boy vignettes, he describes his father as "a strange man" who is "magically deficient" and "never lets his smile fade, no matter what I say to him [...] he defies comprehension." Though Sebek doesn't seem to hold the same amount of respect he has for his mother for his father, we don't hear Sebek openly insulting his dad, just expressing confusion about him. When asked about it, Sebek denies depending on his father--but it's clear there is a fondness there that he's not addressing. Mr. Zigvolt is impressed whenever his children use magic, buys them snacks they never asked for, and talks with them for long periods of time in a calm, patient manner. His father, too, has given Sebek so much compassion and understanding.
We don't know a lot about Sebek's siblings, but they seem to get along fine! He has mentioned going to parks with them. They've also gone fishing together and witnessed magic competitions, which they were all amazed by. The Zigvolts in general (or at least the parents) seem to be accepting too, as they volunteer to take Silver in whenever Lilia is unable to take care of him.
And you'd think that's where it ends, but NO. Baur ALSO has a lot of love to give. Despite not approving of his daughter's marriage, he doesn't actively despise his grandchildren. Quite the opposite, in fact! Though he's rough around the edges and looks scary, Baur doesn't fault any of his grandchildren for being born half fae and half human. He actually makes it a point to bond with them, and especially with Sebek. It was Baur who taught Sebek the language of nocturnal fae and instilled in Sebek his love for reading (as he bought many books for him and tells many stories himself). He also personally reached out to Lilia to train Sebek, as the young boy (at around age 7) expressed an interest in martial arts. Sebek has a love for salmon carpaccio because he and his siblings would fish at Baur's house and then prepare the dish for him--Baur was so happy about it. Additionally, Baur values getting a good education and was proud when Sebek shared with him that he was invited to attend Night Raven College.
Sebek grew up in a country that dislikes humans, but he was raised in an household where he was loved unconditionally and provided with all the resources he could need to get a good education and become someone who is physically strong. So of course he becomes frustrated when he sees Sally, who is so nervous to act on her feelings. What would have happened if Sebek’s mother had been like Sally? Sebek, as the youngest of three, might not event exist. His parents may not still be together… or maybe they wouldn’t have gotten together in the first place. It’s exactly because Sebek knows what love is supposed to be like--courtesy of his own family—that he can see it so well in others, and wants them to act on it. His very existence is proof that love is possible, and it transcends arbitrary labels like race that serve to divide people into categories.
One quirk of Sebek's is how he's always dishing out back-handed compliments or making comments that come off as rude but aren't at their core. He can't seem to help but say a good thing that sounds like something bad. His Diasomnia classmates, usually Silver, have to translate these Sebek-isms for others, who misunderstand him or interpret his words in the worst possible way. For example, from one of Silver’s Fairy Gala lines; “Sebek said to me that no self-respecting disciple of Lilia’s would dare get a single stain on this clothing. That's his way of encouraging me.” In Silver's Dorm Uniform vignettes, Sebek tries to reassure his friend and tell him to not let other people's opinions hurt him--but he phrases it as, "Hmph, ridiculous! I see no reason for you to heed a few random comments from some humans." The duo is also shown to be competitive with one another in training; it's never malicious, they both want to prove themselves as the superior knight, and the other serves as motivation to improve and/or a means of measuring one's own growth against a fellow disciple. When the mostly elderly population of Harveston is in need of physical labor, Sebek comments "[...] the humans in Harveston are woefully out of shape," yet he insists he "still [has] energy to burn" (as if to volunteer himself to do more work) and call such tasks "simple" (as if to point out how easy it is for him to do, so don't worry about troubling him). He hauls apples and helps the villagers with whatever they need, declaring that they should "be grateful"--but if he truly did not care, he could have stopped at any time or settled for just making fun of them. But Sebek doesn't, because he DOES care deep down. This aspect of Sebek is made even more obvious in Fairy Gala: What If. He appears at Ramshackle and opens by declaring, "NO! I am by no means worried about anyone! [...] Don't mistake my intentions. I am NOT here to help! If your mission doesn't succeed, the repercussions will definitely affect Malleus and Lilia. Hence... I shall lend you uneducated humans my aid! [...] You're welcome to weep with joy at my magnanimity..." Time and time again, we see Sebek demonstrating a lot of kindness, but deflecting or not being totally transparent with his intentions due to pride or embarrassment. This behavior is very reminiscent of Baur, the grandfather that Sebek loves dearly and spent so much time with. Baur, too, can be very passionate and loving, but struggles to speak of those feelings openly. Just look at how the man deals with Mr. Zigvolt. The behaviors of the family, then, imprint on Sebek and influence his behaviors--and being that Sebek is from such a loving group, it follows that Sebek puts out a lot of love into the world too.
A lot of times when the fandom discusses Sebek's attitude, I feel it's from the context of him being hateful towards humans. I'm not going to deny that Sebek has said some pretty nasty things about half of his own identity. The point I would like to make here is that Sebek can love just as strongly.
The most obvious thing that supports the claim that Sebek is capable of strong love is how he views Malleus. It's no great secret that Sebek practically worships the ground his dorm leader walks on. That's essentially Sebek's key defining character trait. What I'll ask you to consider instead is the nature of Sebek's love--not the obsessiveness of it, but rather the unconditional nature of it.
In Lost in the Book with Nightmare Before Christmas, Skully laments that Sebek has not been disappointed by his idol, Malleus. Sebek actually corrects him by saying that love isn't imposing your own views on your idol, it means preparing to accept them, flaws and all. He says the same of Malleus; should the time ever come where Sebek's expectations of Malleus falter or their paths have to diverge, then he will still embrace his young master, never once turning his back on him. And where does Sebek gets this from? His parents. The father who loves his children no matter how critical Sebek may be of him. The mother who remained so strong in the face of her friends and family being against her life choices.
A common fandom sentiment regarding Sebek is that he blindly follows Malleus--but when speaking about his idol to Skully, Sebek says that agreeing with someone and continuing to love them are different things. You can disagree with someone's actions and still continue to love them and accept them. This follows what Sebek does in book 7; though he is betrayed and hurt by Malleus turning his powers against the world, Sebek does not let up on the hope that he can bring his young master back. He even sillily calls the yet-to-be-hatched Malleus tamago/egg-sama, showing even an infant form of Malleus great respect after witnessing his OB. Skully took the opposite path that Sebek did; when he realized that his own idol, Jack Skellington, was not as he imagined him to be, Skully became enraged and lashed out over it. Sebek points out Skully's inadequacies as well, which ties back to how he spoke of his own drive to improve in his Nightmare Suit vignettes. Skully confesses to trying desperately to emulate Jack--so much so that he breaks down when Sebek's UM destroys his iconic shades. He wallows in his current state and doesn't make efforts to change or to be better; the past and his own vision is where he's comfortable. It's a strong contrast to Sebek, who has made it clear he will continue to train and work hard to prove his merits and to be someone worthy of protecting the great Malleus Draconia.
It is Sebek's passion and boundless love that makes him a hero both in Lost in the Book with Nightmare Before Christmas AND in the main story's book 7. He serves as a foil to Skully in the former and actively saves Silver when he's on the brink of despair in the latter. After learning that his biological father is the man responsible for killing Malleus's mother and leading the Silver Owls' onslaught on Briar Valley, Silver despairs and comes to the conclusion that his father must loathe him. "He could never love the son of the man he despised! He has to hate me! He has to!" Sebek rushes to Silver's side using Living Bolt, a UM he has yet to master (thus causing residual damage to him when he casts it), to correct him:
"You have this much strength... and you dare to say you weren't loved?! That you were hated?! [...] If [Lilia] hated you, he didn't have to give or teach you anything. He could've just raised you into a dimwitted coward and made you a servant. But he didn't--and look at you now. Even alone and helpless, you stood firm. You spoke up, unfaltering in the face of our liege's madness. Even trapped in the darkest despair, you kept on fighting! Who raised you to be so strong? LILIA DID! Why don't you see? Why do you doubt? You should have understood years ago! What can you call your strength, if not the direct result of Lilia's love?!"
WHETHER SEBEK REALIZES IT OR NOT, A LOT OF WHAT HE TELLS SILVER HITS HOME FOR HIM TOO... Like, thinking about it... Sebek must have faced a lot of prejudice from his community because of who his father is. He might have grown up thinking he, too, was hated, had he not been protected by his loving mother, father, and, yes, even grandfather, who is still struggling to accept the human in their family. Baur must have been feeling very complicated emotions upon meeting his half human grandchildren for the first time... but even though he dislikes humans, he could never find it in himself to dislike his grandkids. If he had hated Sebek, he wouldn't have wanted him to get a good education. Baur wouldn't be happy that he got into NRC. He wouldn't personally ask Lilia to train the grandson who expressed an interest in combat. He wouldn't buy so many books for Sebek or read with him or tell him stories or teach him his language. But Baur DID do all of these things, because deep down he loves Sebek no matter what he is. If it was anything less than love he felt for his grandson, if he decided to neglect his grandkids, then Sebek would have grown up as some "dimwitted coward". IT'S ALL CONNECTED.
And now here Sebek stands, able to tell others that they are loved and should be cognizant of that love. He reminds Silver that Lilia loves him. He advises Skully to reevaluate how he sees his idol. He tells Sally to speak honestly about her feelings, because it was his own mother speaking honestly about hers that led to Sebek and his entire family being as happy as they are now. He shouts at people to act and to speak their minds because he doesn't want them to live with regrets, because he doesn't want to see them be weak and timid--a version of himself that could have resulted if he hadn't been loved so strongly.
You can say many things about Sebek: that he's loud, that he's rude, that he's a fanboy, that he has big muscles. But of all those muscles, Sebek has a very big heart too. And what made him so strong? All the love he received from his family, despite growing up an environment that surely invited hatred for humans.

too far ~ jschlatt
word count: 2231
request?: no
description: in which he takes his dickishness a little too far
pairing: jschlatt x female!reader
warnings: swearing, rpf, angst, use of y/n, schlatt being a dick, insecurities and self...issues (?),
masterlist (one, two, three)
*i read a fic with this premise like a week or two ago but i cannot for the life of me find it anymore and i needed some mean schlatt angst turned fluff so i am writing my own version. if you are the original author this one goes out to you i will tag you if i can find you*
Tumblr media
Everyone who knew Schlatt knew that he was sometimes "mean". It was never serious, it was all just meant to be teasing. For the most part, the worst of it went to Minx who was able to match his energy without it ever affecting her. Everyone else just got a few comments every now and then, but never anything incredibly rude.
Until it suddenly got directed all on you.
You had known Schlatt for some time, having met him through his online friend group while gaming one night. You had become acquainted quickly and you found yourself being excited whenever you knew you'd be playing or recording with him. It seemed like he felt the same way, or at least he was friendly and civil. That was until one recording when you were excitedly talking about something, he suddenly piped up to say, "Jesus, do you ever shut the fuck up?"
Everyone was laughing, so you figured it was just a joke, but it took you by surprise. You knew Schlatt was blunt, but it seemed completely out of nowhere when no one else seemed to mind your babble. You chuckled along with everyone, but you found yourself falling silent for the rest of the recording. Some of the others would include you in the conversation, but you only gave short answers.
After that, it seemed like Schlatt would be picking on you more and more. He rarely had anything nice to say to or about you. It became harder and harder to want to do recordings or streams when he was acting like that, and your mutual friends were starting to notice his continued bullying. It made everyone feel uncomfortable, even if he kept insisting it was just jokes.
It all came to a head when you were asked to do one of those "dating shows" on YouTube. It was you, Minx, Emma, and Jaiden, and Schlatt, Ted, Tanner, and Connor, with Jack hosting it. You weren't sure what the rules were or how the game was supposed to go down, but you loved watching the hilarity of other online "dating shows", and couldn't wait to be a part of it. You were a little weary of Schlatt's presence, but there were so many people involved that you figured you wouldn't get the brunt of his insults today.
Jack sent you the link for the Zoom call. You were one of the last people to join the call, so you were immediately met with a cacophony of overlapping voices. You chuckled to yourself at the familiar chaos. You adjusted your volume settings and positioned your webcam before turning it on.
A high pitched scream brought the conversations to a halt.
"What the fuck was that?" Jack said with a laugh.
"I think it was Schlatt," Ted said.
"Yeah it was me. Sorry, I just saw a jumpscare," Schlatt responded.
"What the fuck are you on about?" Minx asked.
"I saw (Y/N)'s ugly mug suddenly join the call and it scared me."
Everyone was silent. Your face burned and tears started to form in your eyes. Your body moved before your brain could register, your hand moving your mouse to click the "End Call" button. The moment everyone's faces disappeared, you allowed yourself to cry.
For all the hurtful stuff Schlatt had said, he had never gone after your appearance. It was one of your biggest insecurities because you felt like you didn't measure up to other female streamers. Sure, that was a cliche insecurity, but it was your truth. You marveled at how pretty all your friends were and would often mentally compare yourself to them. It wasn't something you had spoken publicly about, so obviously Schlatt didn't know he would touch a nerve, but it still felt like an extremely low blow. Especially for it to be the first thing you heard when you turned your camera on.
You sent Jack a message to apologize for leaving, but you told him you didn't feel up to doing the show anymore. He responded almost immediately to let you know that it was okay and he didn't blame you for your decision. You were shutting down your set up when your Discord started ringing; a voice call from Ted.
"Aren't you supposed to be recording?" you asked, trying to keep your voice even.
"We're taking a quick break while Jack decides if he wants Schlatt to compete anymore," Ted explained.
"Don't kick him off just because of me," you said.
"We don't really want him to play after what he said. It was incredibly fucked up and uncalled for."
"He's said worse to Minx."
"Yeah, but he and Minx have an understanding. We've all noticed that he makes fun of you, but you don't respond the way Minx does. I don't know what his problem is recently, but you don't deserve those insults. You're an incredibly kind person, unlike us assholes."
You chuckled through your tears. "You're not an asshole, Ted."
"I am sometimes, don't lie."
"Only a little bit." You wiped the fresh tears from your eyes and let out a shaky sigh. "I don't want to record with Schlatt anymore."
"I understand," Ted said. "I'll let everyone know, too."
"Thank you."
When you and Ted hung up, you sat back in your chair and took a deep breath. The sting from Schlatt's words was still strong, but you also felt some relief in having talking to Ted about it and him assuring you that you wouldn't have to record with Schlatt anymore. It still upset you that Schlatt made such a 180 when it seemed like you were both getting along so well, but you weren't going to wast anymore brain space on him.
Your phone buzzed from a Discord notification. You looked down at the screen to see Schlatt was trying to send you a message. Instead of reading it, you went to his Discord profile and blocked him.
~~~~~~
It was easier than you thought to forget about Schlatt and his insults. All your friends did as you asked didn't invite you to recordings if Schlatt was a part of them, or vice versa with him. You went on to block him on all social media, and even muting his channels on YouTube so you wouldn't risk seeing him in your recommended. It was like he never existed, and you didn't even care.
You were in the middle of editing a video when a knock came at your door. You assumed it was the Uber Eats you had ordered, so you saved your progress and got up to answer. Instead of finding a delivery guy, you came face to face with the man you had been avoiding for weeks.
"What are you doing here?" you asked. "Wait, better question, how do you know where I live?"
"I bothered Ted until he told me," Schlatt responded.
You rolled your eyes. "Ted's dead to me."
You went to close the door, but Schlatt's hand shot out to block the door. You scowled at him. "Take the hint, Schlatt. I don't want to see you."
"I know you don't, and I get why, but please let me explain and apologize."
"I don't want to hear what you have to say. Honestly, you don't even deserve to take up my time to try and give some shitty explanation for your shitty behavior."
"I know - "
"You really hurt me," you cut him off. "I took the insults in silence because I knew you poked fun at everyone, but they really hurt me. It got to a point where I was dreading having to interact with you every time someone invited to a Discord call and I saw that you were in there too."
"(Y/N) - "
"And then you called me ugly in a call in front of everyone and that hurt the most. I know it shouldn't have given how much else you've said to me, but my looks are one of my biggest insecurities, and I know you probably didn't know that but still, going after how I look was such a low blow. And it hurts so much because I thought we were friends, but suddenly you're insulting me and bullying me at every chance you get, and it almost felt worse than the way you act with Minx so how am I supposed to take it as anything other than you not liking me and - "
Your rambling was finally cut off by Schlatt taking hold of your face and pulling you into him. You were shocked when you felt his lips against yours. Your initial reaction was to pull away and to start yelling at him again, but suddenly your brain switched to tell you lean into it. So you did. You pressed into Schlatt as much as you could; your body against his, your hands on his hoodie, standing on your toes so you could reach him.
Also to your surprise, Schlatt was the one to pull away first. He rested his forehead against yours, keeping his face inches apart from yours.
"That was one way to get me to stop talking," you joked.
He smiled. "Seemed to be the most effective way."
"So, are you about to tell me the reason you were being mean to me is because you liked me? Because if so, that is a very elementary school explanation."
"Unfortunately, that is the reason."
You pulled away from Schlatt and finally gestured for him to come in. You realized you had been standing in the doorway this whole time, and now that you had somewhat calmed down, you figured you'd listen to his explanation. You were much more intrigued now after your kiss, although you were far from completely forgiving him for what had happened.
You led Schlatt to your living room and you both sat down on the couch. You were very much aware of how close you two were sat. His body was inches away from yours. You could be touching him again if you wanted to.
"I was trying to push you away," he said, bringing you back to the topic at hand. "I was afraid you wouldn't like me back, and it felt easier to make you hate me than to risk that rejection."
"No offense, but that's a really stupid idea."
He chuckled. "Yeah, no offense taken because you're right. I should've just talked to you about it like an adult instead of assuming you would've rejected me. I thought the easier route would be to make you hate me, but then that succeeded and I realized how much I missed getting to talk to you. Not to sound too corny or anything, but everything felt empty when you weren't around. I knew I fucked up majorly, and I tried to apologize that night after what happened, but you blocked me on everything and I realized just how far I had actually gone."
You thought back to the call you had with Ted that day when everything had come to a head with Schlatt. "Did you not tell Ted how you felt?"
"Not until I begged him for your address. Listen, I love Ted and all, but the dude has a big fuckin' mouth. He would've let it slip one way or another how I feel about you, and I didn't want that. Actually, no one knew. I kept it to myself completely."
"You're an idiot. You know that, right?"
He nodded. "I'm more than well aware, yes."
"And you know it's going to take more than just kissing me and apologizing to completely redeem yourself? I understand why you acted the way you did, as stupid as it was, but it still really hurt me. I'm not going to forget everything just because you were being stupid."
"I don't expect you to. All I wanted was to explain myself and hope that you'd give me a second chance. I'm serious, (Y/N), I don't think I can just not have you in my life. If you don't want to date, that's fine. I'm okay with something platonic, as long as I have you."
You smiled and finally dared to reach out and touch him. You took his hand in yours, running your thumb over his knuckles. You then dared to lean forward and capture his mouth with yours in a quick, gentle kiss. When you pulled away, Schlatt had a smile on his face. You mirrored it with a smile of your own.
"You'll have to work for forgiveness," you told him. "You can start by taking me out on a date."
"Done," he said. "Right now?"
You giggled. "Maybe tomorrow. I was actually in the middle of editing a video when you came, and I have Uber Eats on the way."
As if on cue, there was a knock at your door.
"That would be it."
"Can I stay and hang out while you edit?" Schlatt asked.
"Of course. But I'm not sharing my food with you."
"Oh, you have no choice. You invited me in and let me stay, therefore you're sharing your food."
"You know what? Go fuck yourself, I take back everything I said."
You exclaimed and giggled as he suddenly grabbed you and pulled you to him. "Too late! No take backs! You're stuck with me for a very long time, toots."
﹕─┈ All of Stella’s moments during ‘Going Home | Quinn Hughes’
“Lukey was the best pool player in the family I would say, or in the house” Quinn answered Kate's question, as he motioned his head towards Luke who was leaning over the pool table with his stick. Stella’s lips twitched up into a smile, already knowing where her older brother was leading the conversation too. Quinn continued to speak with a small smile “He had like the best win percentage, and then he bought a pool stick.”
“For like 200 bucks” Luke was quick to interrupt Quinn, an annoyed frown on his lips as he looked back on the bad money decision, he should have listened to stella. Quinn let out a small chuckle and glanced back at Stella before continuing to tease Luke “Yeah, and he just his game went down the down the rails like. He was like one in ten.”
“What about you stella?” Kate sent the youngest Hughes a warm smile, looking at Stella who was sitting Criss crossed on the couch watching Luke.  Stella perked up at the mention of her name and sent Kate a happy smile, but before she could answer, Luke was quick to jump in and answer for her with a laugh “Stella’s the worst!”
Everyone in the room laughs at the dramatic gasp that Stella let out. Jack, who was leaning against the wall, laughing louder than the rest at the offended look Stella sends him. Quinn just shrugs, he was not going to get in between Stella and Luke today. The Producer chuckles himself before asking Quinn another answer “are you the cook in the house?”
Stella zones out as Quinn answers the question, her eyes dropping down to her lap where her phone rested when she felt it vibrate, a shy smile coming across her face when she sees who texted her. She bit her bottom lip to hide her smile, not wanting to give her suddenly happy mood away.
lovey 🩵: do you think i'd survive sneaking through your window tonight?
pretty girl 🩷: are you brave enough to try? (i give you a 40% survival rate)
lovey 🩵: Bet! (i’d die happy though)
“Isn't that right stella?” Quinn asked Stella, wanting her to agree with how he's a much better cook. Stella looks up from her phone where she was lost in her own world and sees everyone looking at her for an answer, but the only answer they got was a confused frown and a small “Huh.”
Quinn and Jack chuckle while Luke narrows his eyes on her phone, Stella quickly shutting it off when she sees Luke's stare. Quinn chuckles and gives the camera a cheeky smile “I'm gonna take that as a yes.”
Tumblr media
Stella sat in the corner of the boat, a blanket over her lap and her hands stuffed into the front pocket of Luke's hoodie that she stole. She wanted to go sit up on the front of the boat, curled up next to her mom but they wanted her to sit with Luke and Jack, the fans wanted to see the siblings together more apparently.
“Get your toes away from me” Stella quietly hissed at jack when he rested them up on the seat next to her, Luke who was laying on his stomach behind her stifled his laugh at the groan of annoyance stella lets out when jack teasingly moves his toes closer to her. Ellen leans forward and looks back at her children, she sends a warning look to her middle son and leans back, knowing that's all she'd have to do for him to stop bugging his sister.
Jack rolls his eyes and lets out an annoyed huff when Stella sends him a triumphant smirk, Stella leans back against the seat and looks out at the water as she listens to Quinn answer all the questions and talk about the lake. Luke absentmindedly played with a few strands of Stella's hair as he also zoned out looking out at the water.
Stella brought her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arm around her knees, resting her chin on top of them. She bounces in her seats at the waves quinn goes over, a laugh leaving her lips when her mother starts to shout at quinn and stand up “I’m kidding it's going to be fine” Quinn laughed as he watched his mom stand up, wanting to get away from the splashes of water.
A surprised gasp leaves Stella's lips and her body stills when she feels a cold chill run through her body, as she feels water come up and splash her in the face and neck. Everyone laughs on the boat as she hurriedly wipes off the water from her face, a loud laugh coming from quinn’s lips when stella whines “Quinnnn” Jack smiles and takes his hat off and drops it on Stella's head, protecting her face from the water.
Quinn gives the camera a big grin before shrugging his shoulders “oops.”
Tumblr media
“What's the five for?” Kate asks Quinn as she motions towards the garage wall where four numbers in blue spray paint were written. 43,86,43 and 5. Quinn, Kate and the rest of the crew where in the garage, filming quinn as he shot some pucks, showing off the ‘shooting room.’
Quinn paused to catch his breath and turned to look back at the wall, memories flooding through his mind of him and his siblings all putting their number on the wall after the ‘shooting room’ was done. A great memory. Quinn smiled fondly as he looked at kate “Oh that's stella number when she used to play.”
“And I'm guessing those are hers too” Kate laughed as she pointed at the light pink skates that had a bunch of different stickers on them, the laces pink as well. Quinn chuckles and nods as he looks back at the skate's jack had gotten her a year ago, while Luke got her a new pack of stickers “yeah those are stella’s, she likes coming down and shooting with us.”
“Is she any good?” the producer asks, even though he already knew the answer. All the brothers have mentioned Stella's hockey skills before.  Quinn leans down to take off his skates, ready to show them the next thing on the schedule. Quinn smirks at the camera “She's my sister, of course she is.”
Tumblr media
At the end of the video the camera is filming all the guys playing a friendly skirmish, and you can see Stella sitting on the bench cheering for Cole who was on a breakaway!
˖ ་ 💭 roro’s notes ( I bet you all can guess who she was texting !!! I just know the fans would eat the content up !!! I know it’s short but I didn’t really want to put a lot of Stella in this video, just a perfect amount where the fans would want more of her !!! )
fluff and smut
Tumblr media
warning(s) : smut !
author's note : did i write 80% this while on my break at work ? absolutely (i was bored)
༺═──────────────═༻
fluff !!
you and Quinn were just friends at first
you both had crushes on one another for years though
then one summer you were both at the lake house in Michigan after you got an invitation from Jack and one thing led to another and by the time Quinn returned to Canada for the season, he was referring to you as "my girl"
Quinn keeping his captaincy a secret from you until it was officially announced by Vancouver and the NHL
you yelled at him about that
Quinn offered to get a C put on every one of his jerseys that you owned (which admittedly was a lot despite not being together for very long when he got the C)
you got tickets to the first Canucks home game to watch the captain's ceremony where Quinn got his new jersey
you surprise him after the game since he withheld getting the captaincy in the first place
he's a very big fan of kissing his girl. he'll steal kisses whenever he can, but especially when he comes back from a long roadie and you’re at his apartment
his love languages are very much physical touch and quality time. Quinn loves spending time with you and if it ends with cuddles, or a make out session, then he's very happy
you often visit him in Vancouver, most of those visits being surprises
you go to both Hughes Bowls even though Jack was hurt for the second one, and you wear one of your Quinn jerseys to both
you're very close with Luke and Jack and have been since you were all kids
you're also friends with some of the guys on the Canucks as well, notably Elias Pettersson and JT Miller
Quinn invites you to the All Star game in February and you accept. spending a weekend in Toronto with Quinn and Jack doesn’t sound like the worst idea in the world
you spend every summer at the lake house
Quinn gets you a necklace with a ‘Q’ on the chain for your first anniversary. you get him a chain with your name on it in return, and he wears it for every game
you beg him not to cut his hair or shave his beard and mustache after getting eliminated from the playoffs, but he does it anyway
Jack takes all the credit for your entire relationship since he is the one that invited you to the lake house the summer that you and Quinn got together
✧・゚: *✧・゚:*
smut / nsfw !!
Quinn has a thing for you riding his thighs. he loves watching you get off using his thighs, and he’ll let you come as many times as you want
you think Quinn’s beard is hot so you never mind a little beard burn when he goes down on you, which is more often than not
he’s a giver. he’ll have you coming all over his tongue as many times as he wants. he’ll go down on you until your entire body shakes
you (not so) accidentally find out about his captain kink that neither of you knew he had. you had read about it somewhere and decided to give it a try one night …
and he made you come so much that you were in tears by the end it the night (oversensitivity is a thing that you wish didn’t exist)
Quinn loves when you use him to come. thighs, face, fingers, cock. it doesn’t matter to him
on the other hand, you completely give yourself to him if he has a bad game or a rough loss. he uses you to get off and blow off some steam, and you will let him
sneaking around the lake house to have sex is a big thing, especially at first. no one knew so the two of you would have to sneak off. then everyone knew so you were a little less discreet about it
there was boat sex on the lake once late at night one summer too. Quinn is not opposed to that happening again, but not when a bunch of people are at the house and notice when the boat is a mess
car sex is a big thing, especially when Quinn picks you up from the airport when he knows you’re coming to visit. he knows a bunch of spots to drive to so the two of you can hook up (he buys a bigger car and puts it to use in more ways than one)
lazy, morning sex !!
quickies !!
Quinn loves holding your hand during sex. he makes sure your fingers are laced together every. single. time.
IF YOU LOVE ME, LET ME KNOW | jack hughes.
chapter seven:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
<last chapter> <next chapter>
➴ warnings: brief mention of smut
➴ word count: 2.4k
➴ author’s note: is the thing people say about rainstorms before rainbows true? i guess it’s time for soph and jack to find out. “happy” reading ♡
FALLING out of love was something you had yet to experience.
Of course, back then you thought you had fallen out of love with Harris, but soon you’d realize that you had never really loved him. It was some kind of strong admiration, a need to have someone to call yours, someone who you could write love songs for, someone who you could imagine yourself getting old with.
‘Course, none of those things happened with Harris, not even during your honeymoon phase. You were young when you started dating him, twenty-one and with no real idea of what love truly was.
So an older actor who thought you were cute?
It felt like you had hit the jackpot.
But now, as you try your hardest to forget what Jack meant means— to you, you realize that it isn’t as easy as you initially thought it would be.
Jack is everywhere, occupying every corner of your mind. You remember how sweet he’d talk to you after sex, always treating you with kindness and making sure you were well taken care of. How he’d send you memes that were purely about Hockey even if you never understood what was so funny about them, how he’d get excited talking about his job and how he’d try to explain all the terms to you.
Despite what happened, Jack had made you so happy. It was sad to think that it was all probably a joke to him, but for you? No, it was real. So real. Every time you looked at his face, you reminded yourself that some things are not meant to last forever.
But God knew how much you wanted him to be your forever.
Keeping yourself busy was easy, and you were thankful for that. Your small concert, a week ago, filled you with so much joy and contentment— you were alive and not thinking about the middle child of the Hughes family for the first time in seven months.
Grace made sure that you took enough breaks but whenever you were alone with your thoughts for a long time, the first image your brain liked to share with you was Jack’s smile and Jack’s eyes and Jack’s nose and lips.
It was tiring.
You didn’t tell anyone, but you secretly watched his games when you were alone at night. You didn’t know much, but the experts keep saying that this is Hughes’ worst season and that he’s playing like shit, which, unfortunately, made you worry.
But you wouldn’t go back, you couldn’t go back.
Sometimes, at night, you’d remember how he looked at you when you told him you were in love with him. Or how he looked when you told him to leave, so desperate for you to hear him, at least for a few more minutes.
You’d replay that day inside of your head every night, like a nighttime routine, trying to find a different, better ending.
You’d always come up empty.
Sighing, you looked at your phone, reading Grace’s text with a smile.
Tumblr media
Grace being Grace.
Even if she technically worked for you, you’ve barely seen Grace the past couple of days. You were both so busy it was almost impossible to keep up with each other’s schedule. But you did manage to free up some space so you could at least have lunch with her, and turns out she thought it’d be cool to include Nico too.
So, lunch at Nico’s house.
You said goodbye to the people who were working with you at the GQ photo shoot and drove to his house, blasting music through your speakers. No thoughts allowed!
You rang the doorbell, waiting until Grace herself opened the door, like she owned the house. You still weren’t sure if you wanted to know what was truly happening between the two of them, so you didn’t ask questions.
“Hi, my little popstar,” Grace shouted, hugging you tightly.
“Stop putting little before every noun when you’re referring to me.” You mumbled, face still shoved in the crook of her neck.
“Why would I do that? It’s fun and true. Come inside, Nico’s ordering pizza!”
You entered the house, feeling your cheeks getting warm when you remembered what happened the last time you were here.
“Shut the fuck up, Sophia,” during sex, he only used your name whenever he was really pissed, and apparently this was one of those times. “Don’t need anyone hearing how much of a whore you actually are.”
“Fuck, uh, come for me, baby, c’mon,” Jack whispered, hands still on you, dick fucking you hard and rough, leaving your insides raw and deliciously hurting. “Come on my cock like the good girl you are.”
Well. No more of that.
“No— Man, listen. I want a large pepperoni and a large margherita, please,” Nico smiled at you before putting his hand on his head, holding his phone with the other. “Why the hell would I put pineapple on a fucking pepperoni pizza? Let me speak to your manager, that’s— that’s a crime.”
“He’s just a Swiss Karen, really,” Grace sighed, sitting on the couch. You sat next to her, watching as Hischier tried to explain to the manager why pineapples shouldn’t even be included in pizzas in the first place. “I think he’s just nervous about the games.”
“Yeah,” you wanted to tell her that you’ve been watching the games and that it didn’t look really good for them but it would just give your I’m-already-over-Jack facade away. “Must be hard.”
“Tell me about it, I barely see him. It’s like hockey players only exist during the summer or whatever.” She sighed again, fixing her braids. You looked at her, full of compassion.
If you and Jack dated, would you feel like her?
No.
You wouldn’t know the answer to that question because that won’t happen.
“Hi, Soph,” you heard the Devils’ captain say, greeting you.
“Hey there, thirteen. How are you?”
He yawned, stretching his arms. “Tired, stressed, hungry, tired.” He stopped for a second before continuing. “Have I mentioned tired?”
“Sucks to be you, to be honest,” you giggled, looking at him funny.
The pizza would take a while to get delivered— especially since Nico argued with the manager and now they were probably taking their time spitting on the dough— so you used the time to catch up on their lives.
Grace talked about how her marketing degree never prepared her for how much work she’d actually have to get done, and how much she missed her mom and dad, and how Jessica, your vocal coach, was starting to piss her off with her I-am-better-than-everyone attitude.
Nico talked about the games, and how he basically was never at home, and how he’d spend half of his time on planes and the other half on practice and yet he still felt like they weren’t going to make it.
That made you wonder how Jack was doing with all of this. If he had come back to Newark after their week away, to spend thanksgiving with his family.
Not that you cared, you just wondered.
Noticing how both Grace and Nico stayed quiet, you realized that they’re probably waiting for you to update them on your life. You smiled awkwardly.
“I have been working a lot,” you shrugged. “I love what I do so it isn’t exactly working for me. Besides that, I sleep, eat and drink water.”
They both looked at you with pity, which made your stomach ache. You didn’t want anyone pitying you, in fact, you didn’t need it. You weren’t a damsel in distress, you didn’t need to be saved— you just chose to spend your free time alone. Ain’t nothing wrong with that.
“I’m gonna go grab some wine from the cellar, be right back,” Nico announced, out of nowhere, getting up and heading downstairs. Grace looked at him with puppy eyes and you laughed.
“People in love are disgusting,” you joked, and Grace rolled her eyes at you.
“Shut it, Twilight,” she laughed, not denying it. “I’m gonna go grab the glasses.”
The doorbell rang and you got up. “It looks like I’m gonna go grab the pizza.”
“Make sure they didn’t put poison in it!” Grace shouted, making her way to the kitchen, while you walked until you were in front of the door, smiling still.
“Sophia?”
Hi, Universe. It’s your girl, Sophia. So, what is this about? What are you trying to do here? Let me tell you now, it won’t work.
“Hum, hi?” It sounded more like a question than a greeting, but out of all things you would have imagined that could happen to you that day, opening the door and finding Jack on the other side of it wasn’t on your list.
“What are you,” he stuttered, clutching hard the bag he was holding in his hands. “I didn’t know you’d be here. I’m sorry.”
You leaned against the door, confusion taking over your face. Jack wasn’t the type of man to apologize so easily.
“It’s fine.”
You both went quiet, staring at each other. It was weird to be around Jack without touching him, your heart still hurting because you love him deeply.
It was the type of love you’d want to tell your children, if you decided to have them one day. The type of love where you’d come home after a long day, just to find your forever sitting on the couch, yapping about his day. The type of love you read in books and watch movies about, the type of love you want to write songs about. The type of love where his hugs feel like a cold, gentle breeze during a sunny day, and his kisses felt like the fireworks on the Fourth of July.
You loved Jack Hughes deeply and he wanted him to be your forever more than anything.
But it wouldn’t happen. And it’s fine. It’d be fine.
“Do you want me to call Nico?” You whispered, averting his gaze.
“You don’t need to, I just stopped by to give him this,” he raised the bag in his hands, shrugging.
“Okay…” You nodded, not sure of what to say. “Then, I guess I’m… gonna go. Nice seeing you.” You lied, because you’d much rather keep watching him on TV, with a safe distance between you two, than to face him in real life.
“No, Soph, wait—” he called you, putting his feet between the door gap. “Can we, like, talk?”
“I don’t think that’s a good idea, Jack.” You retorted, biting your bottom lip.
“Soph, did they spit on our pizza?” Grace’s voice sounded cheerful behind you, and you cringed, knowing exactly how she’s going to react once she sees Jack here. “I hope they only spitted on Nico’s pizza, to be honest. What are you doing there— Oh.”
You turned around and looked at her, smiling awkwardly. No one moved a muscle for at least ten seconds and you gave in, knowing that discussing things with her would be harder than hearing Jack out.
“I’ll just… I’ll be right back, okay?” You announced, pointing to Jack behind you. “It’s fine.”
“But—”
“It’s fine, Grace. Go find Nico, please.” You pleaded, not wanting to feel any shittier. Grace only stared at Jack for what seemed to be a whole minute before nodding once and making her way to Nico.
“I guess she still hates me.” Jack pointed out, chuckling humorlessly.
You turned around, raising your eyebrows at him. “Can you blame her?”
“No, not really,” he shrugged, putting the bag on the floor and putting his hands inside of his jeans’ pockets. “I get that you’re still mad at me.”
“I told you, I’m not mad at you. Hurt? Maybe. But I knew what I was getting myself into, so I guess I can’t really blame you.” You wrapped your arms around yourself, trying really hard to be the bigger person when all you wanted to do was smash his face into a wall and kiss him right after that.
“I want you to know that I am sorry about what happened,” he stepped closer, making you smell his cologne, sandalwood and something else that smelled a lot like money. Weird combination but it worked for him. “Truly. I didn’t fuck Ava or any other woman while we were together. I— I just wanted to be with you, Soph, I need you to know that.”
You stared at his face, trying so hard to find the same expression you found on your ex’s face whenever he lied and manipulated you. But you couldn’t— Jack was still the same as he was seven months ago, when he hit on you at that dinner party.
He still looked like the guy who held you close after sex, the guy who order take out for you just because he knew you’d get too tired to cook for yourself, the guy who had a playlist just for his favorite songs by you, the guy who never understood your chronically online memes but laughed nonetheless because he said the way you laugh is funnier than the joke itself.
Jack still looked like he could be your forever.
So close yet so fucking distant.
You could feel yourself slipping into him again and you knew you couldn’t do this with yourself. You had to choose yourself before choosing anyone else.
“You don’t need to say sorry,” you whispered, smiling softly. “It’s fine. As you said, we weren’t even dating. I bet you wouldn’t have reacted the way I did if it’d been the other way around.”
He looked at you like you had grown a second head. “I would’ve gone crazy if it was the other way around. Sophia, I know it’s hard to believe but—”
“It’s fine, Jack, it really is,” you stated, shaking your head. “I accept your apologies but I think—” you broke eye contact, stepping back. “I think it’s just best if we stay out of each other’s way.”
You couldn’t tell which one of you cracked first. Jack, who looked at you like he’d seen a ghost, let his shoulders fall, looking as dejected as ever. You could feel the tears starting to form in your eyes but you held on tight. You had already cried in front of him once, and you weren’t going to do that again.
“Soph,” you heard his voice, so soft and so unlike him. “Soph, you don’t… you don’t mean that, baby.”
“I do,” you looked up, squeezing your eyes shut. “I do, Jack. And it will be fine. Let’s just move on.”
“Soph…”
“Please,” you whispered, already stepping back into the house, hands on the handle. “Jack. Please.”
You finally looked at him, noticing how his eyes looked so blue and sad. He stared at you before shaking his head, once and then twice, stepping back.
“I’m so sorry, Soph.” He said softly, before leaving Nico’s porch and making his way to his car.
“I know you are, baby,” you whispered, letting the tears finally fall. “I am, too.”
“Hum… pizza for Nico Hischier?”
Great.
can I please get headcannons for the bones boys taking you out on a first date? Thank you so much for writing for bones!
A/N: anything for my bones boys
Booth would definitely do something unconventional. Something fun, unexpected, something that was a bit competitive, but mostly something where he could show off.
"Really?" you almost laughed as you stood in front of the entrance. "The fair?"
"Oh, come on. When was the last time you did something like this?" He nudged you on your shoulder, wagging his eyebrows at you.
He would then proceed to win you a giant stuffed bear at the duck shoot.
"What?" he shrugged nonchalantly, "Like's hard?"
"Not for you apparently," you teased. "Though I expect being a ranger turned FBI agent probably helps."
You started walking backwards enjoying the challenging look in his eyes.
"Are you trying to rial me up?" he questioned, smirking at you.
You leaned in close to him, enjoying the way his breathing increased. "Depends, how easy do you fluster?"
You pulled away, making your way towards the ring toss.
"Oh, I see how it is," Booth shouted as he trailed after you, slinging his arm over your shoulder.
The first date with Booth would solely about getting to know you, making you laugh, and gauging just how comfortable he could be around you. It would absolutely end with him being a giant tease and kissing you on the corner of your mouth or your temple.
Hodgins, rich (so rich he doesn't even know how rich), Hodgins would try and impress you. At least that was his first thought. Private and obscenely expensive dinner? Check. Expensive car to get you there? Check.
But like many things in Jack's life, it never really went according to plan.
"Oh, come on!" Jack grumbled at the flat tire. "I just had the car serviced. I can't believe this."
It was only when you started laughing that he relaxed enough to look at you.
"What?" He asked a bit in disbelief. Crushing thoughts about how this was the worst first date to never actually even start diminished at the sight your smile.
"I don't think I've seen you this stressed since you tried to hide TNT experiment from Cam," you said laughter dying down.
"Hey, that civil war exhibit didn't need it as much as us," he reasoned, a smile now stretching across his own face as he leaned against his car.
You mirrored his movements, shoulder pressed against his as you leaned against the car.
"I wanted this to be perfect. But just about everything seems to have gone wrong."
"Well, it's a good thing the night isn't over yet," you looked around. "You know, I think we're close to the diner."
"You can't be serious," he laughed. A mixture of disbelief and awe.
"Dead. I never needed anything fancy anyways - just you Jack."
From that moment, he knew that he wasn't ever going to mess it up. You were it for him.
Tumblr media
Sweets would want to do anything where the two of you could just talk. We know he's done a pottery class before so something along those lines. Really anything where he got to just look at you with a big grin on his face and listen to every word that came out of your mouth.
"Lance?"
"Yeah?"
"Your chicken is burning."
"Oh, shit."
You let out a laugh that made him forget all about the charred chicken. He, in hindsight, should have known better than to plan a cooking class as your first date. Not when you distracted him so easily he could chop a finger off. Definitely not his best idea.
"Here, we can just share mine," you said as you fed him some of your food. All teasing smiles and delicious prolonged eye contact.
Definitely not his worst date idea.
Tumblr media
Wendell is one for simplicity. He wants to get to know you, but he also doesn't want to go overboard and scare you off. He'd plan for a simple dinner (your pick) and make a walk around the city.
The street lights illuminated the city, a cool breeze rushing past you. You tried your best not to seem cold - you'd opted for looks- not practically. Now you were paying the price for it.
A sudden rush of warm hit you, you looked up at Wendell who'd wordlessly placed his jacket over your shoulders.
"Wendell-"
"Don't even mention it. Can't have you getting sick now, can I?" He gently nudged your shoulder with his own as you walked side by side. "Wouldn't want you to rain check the next date."
"The next one?" you prodded - warmth washing over your cheeks. "Someone is presumptuous," you teased.
"Nah, just optimistic," He smiled brightly at you. "So, what do ya say?"
"I think your odds are looking pretty good," you looped your arm to hold on to his.
Wendell wouldn't necessarily consider himself a betting man, but he'd say he won out on this one.
Tumblr media
Vincent was quiet sure how he'd managed it. It was all a bit of blur if he was honest. One second you both were discussing how no number before a thousand contains the letter a, and the next he had asked you out. And you'd said yes.
He almost thought he'd dreampt it, really. You'd had to call out his name twice before he blinked himself back into reality.
Now he stood in front of your door holding flowers that were wilting away by the second - he swore he'd just gotten them and they looked pristine.
He let out a sigh, knuckles frozen over the door. This would be, fine. You already said yes. Oh, God.
Knuckles knocking against the door, he frantically smoothed out his hair.
"Vincent!"
You leaned in for a hug, crushing the flowers, but he couldn't bring himself to care. You pulled away giving him this brilliant smile that put him at ease.
"Are those for me?"
"Wha- yes. Yes, they are for you." He handed you the roses. "Did you know over 30,000 rose varieties exist today?"
You let out a small laugh, eyes still sparkling. "I didn't, but thank you for telling me."
That smile of your really did put him at ease. This would be fine - this would be great - because he was with you.
Tumblr media
When Colin asked you to go out with him to the Slasherthon at the local movie theater he wasn't actually sure you'd say yes. But he figured the worst you could say was no - or you know, laugh at him until he fell into an endless abyss of shame.
Either would be fine.
He expected the abyss.
He did not expect you to say yes. Let alone actually show up. But there you were in a Jason Voorhees t-shirt all smiles as he walked up to you.
"Are you ready for lots of gore and eating our weight in popcorn?" You asked practically bouncing on the balls of your feet. He'd never seen anything more lively or beautiful in his life.
"A person after my own heart," he said dramatically - hand placed over his own heart.
"Come on, Colin," you grabbed his hand pulling him into the theater. As you led him away he realized the abyss option would have been much worse than he had anticipated.
You were a light shining into his abyss.
Tumblr media
Aubrey would take you to a nice sit down restaurant. He spent the better half of the week trying to decide where exactly to take you. He'd finally settled on a restaurant you had been talking about trying for a month now.
"Aubrey, how did you know I wanted to eat here?" You asked, leaning forward. Your eyes excitedly bouncing between the menu and Aubrey.
"You've been talking about it," he shrugged, trying his hardest to be nonchalant about it.
"Aubrey- I mentioned it once, like, a month ago." You laughed a bit in disbelief.
"And?"
"And how do you remember something like that?"
"It sounded important to you, why wouldn't I want to remember it?"
He'd be lying if he didn't say he enjoyed that look on your face. A mixture of disbelief and being heard - actually heard.
"Now, I'm thinking we go family style on this bad boy and see what all the fuss is about." Aubrey leaned forward, both of you so close to the other. If the flowers in the middle of the table weren't in the way he just might have leaned in for kiss.
"You sure you can leave some food for me?" You teased, your eyes sparkling in a way that made Aubrey realize he never wanted to see your eyes without it.
"Sweetheart, I'd leave all of it for you if you asked."
"Liar," you laughed.
"Alright some of it, but that's better than none!"
August, 2017
He met Margaret on our rooftop, she was wearing white And he was like, "I might be in trouble"
Charles loves his country, he really does. He’s always been patriotic of some sorts, he supposes. But the one thing he absolutely loathes about Monaco? The heat, no questions asked. The worst part isn’t even the heat itself, per se, it is the fact that his apartment has no elevator and he has to walk up five stories just to make it to his apartment – in the heat. So yeah, even though he is as patriotic of a Monégasque as they come, he definitely wishes he was somewhere else at the moment. When he does make to his floor, however, he’s met with a rather peculiar view, where his new neighbour is yelling at someone on the phone.
“No, I said I wanted the granite counters,” the person specify, fingers clutching the bridge of his nose in frustration. “No!” The man straight up yells, “Ceux en granit, connard, pas ceux en graphite. I don’t think they even come in graphite!”
Deciding to remain silent as he makes his way towards his own apartment, Charles ignores the man standing in front of the apartment opposite of his. Though, he realises that the apartment’s door is open and there is construction going on inside, which explains the drilling sounds he’s been hearing early in the morning and the smell of fresh paint that never seems to leave the shared floor.
Side-eyeing the whole ordeal, he manages to make it to his apartment without attracting the attention of the man – or so he thinks. Just as he’s about to unlock his front door, he feels a pat on his shoulder. As he turns towards the man, there is a curious look on his face, “Hi?”
“Hello,” the man greets, “do you know how i can contact the superintendent?”
For reasons unknown (extreme hangover), Charles’ brain decides to blank out, “Quoi?”
“Le commissaire,” the man clarifies, “savez-vous comment je peux les contacter?” And Charles realises he would have been impressed with the man’s accent if he wasn’t so hangover from the night before. The superintendent, do you know how I can contact them?
“Ah,” Charles nods in understanding, “sure, let me give you his number.”
After the man saves the number he gives to his phone, he extends his hand in a friendly greeting. “I owe you one, I’m Declan, by the way. Nice to meet you.”
“I’m Charles,” he responds with, what he hopes to be, a friendly smile. Motioning the apartment behind them, he asks, “Are you my new neighbour?”
“Oh, no, no,” Declan laughs, and it’s a warm, almost infectious laugh. It reminds Charles of– well, it doesn’t matter anymore. Declan’s voice draws him back to the conversation, “My sister is, I’m renovating it for her.”
Charles nods in understanding, “Ah, I see. I’ve never seen her around, I don’t think.”
“Well that’d be because she’s as annoying as little sisters come,” Declan laughs again, and this time it manages to get a smile out of Charles. “You know what? We’re actually having a small party at my place tonight, why don’t you come?”
“You’ve just met me,” Charles points out, voicing his confusion, “you really want to invite me to your house?”
“Pish posh,” Declan waves him off, already starting to walk back to his sister’s apartment “I’ll send you the details, bring alcohol!”
Tumblr media
Charles tries to come up with excuses to give Declan when he’s a no show at the party, but all the excused he come up with sounding either shitty, entitled or just a mess in general. So he convinces himself to get ready after a much needed shower, and remembers to pick up a bottle of tequila on his way to the address Declan texted him earlier that day. Considering the amount of cars parked in front of the apartment complex, Charles thinks whether it’s going to be a ‘small’ party as Declan put earlier, but he manages to find a place to park his car, nonetheless. Surprisingly, it’s not hard to find which apartment belongs to his new ‘friend’, as the people he seems to keep literally bumping into give him directions which lead him to the top floor – he thinks, like brother like sister, huh?
“Ah, bienvenu, Charles!” Declan greets him as he enters the apartment, filled with more people than he honestly expected; but hey, they are in Monte Carlo after all.
Because he was raised by his mother, Charles replies, “Merci de me recevoir,” but because he is Charles, he finds himself reverting easily to French. Of course, he soon realises that his new friend has no trouble understanding him.
“Of course, ma maison est ta maison.” With a wide smile that reaches his eyes, he takes the bottle Charles offer him and pats his shoulder in a friendly manner, “Good lad, let me put this in the kitchen and we’ll find my sister together. I suppose she’s here somewhere.”
Giving him a firm nod, Charles is suddenly left alone to gaze around the living area. He quickly realises that he’s not the only one who is particularly patriotic as he comes face to face with the Union Jack on the wall, proudly displayed on the wall, seems to tell a story of cultural connections and a home away from home. He’s also, somehow, met with a very eccentric group of people, who seem to be insistent on having him join their various conversation – which he does his best to partake in.
As he chats with a group of fellow partygoers, he notices Declan making his way through the crowd toward him. “Charles,” he says with an apologetic smile, “sorry for that, let’s go.”
As they move through the apartment, Charles catches glimpses of the décor, which can only be described as eclectic, but what he realises that Declan made sure to fill up his walls with all kinds of memories; from photographs of what Charles thinks is his family to his diplomas, to even famous artwork – he’s not sure whether the Warhol he just passed by is real or not, but he supposes it’s probably the first option. They arrive at a corner of the rooftop terrace where a cozy seating area is arranged. A few guests are engaged in animated discussions, while others lounge comfortably, enjoying the ambiance. However, it doesn’t take either him or Declan to realise that his sister is, in fact, not with the group.
Though, it doesn’t take the latter to spot his sister, mumbling with a wince under his breath, and when Charles follows Declan's gaze to find her engaged in a rather animated discussion with a man who looks both frustrated and slightly bewildered by her. “Poor guy.”
“Seems like she's keeping him entertained.” Charles offer, careful with his words, and also quite confused at the man’s reactions to whatever Declan’s sister seems to be saying.
“Eh, sisters.” Declan shrugs, and motions Charles to follow him.
As they approach their corner of the terrace, her voice becomes clearer, and Charles can overhear snippets of the conversation. “I just don’t understand why we can’t print more money,” she says in an airy voice.
The man she's speaking to rubs his temples, clearly grappling with how to respond. “Well, it's not that simple. Printing more money can lead to inflation and devalue the currency.” He takes a moment to think, then, “Think of it like shoes–”
“Okay,” Declan laughs nervously as he places himself between the two, turning to the other man with a kind smile, “I think we’re done here, mate, she’s playing you. She’s an econ major, sorry for that.” Though Charles can’t see the expression on her face, he imagines there’s some sort of a victorious smile as she waves the man away, “Stop emasculating my friends, please.”
“Well choose better friends, and I won’t,” she shrugs, following his brother’s movements as he makes his way back near Charles, she turns towards him as the white dress she’s wearing sways gently in the evening breeze. There’s a surprised look on her face when she realises and they are not alone, “Um, hi.”
With a playful grin, Declan points to Charles and turns to his sister, “This is Charles, your new neighbour, and Charles, this is my sister–”
Bambi.
It’s the only word that comes to Charles’ mind when he sees your eyes and a friendly smile you give to him, “Nice to meet you, Charles.”
His eyes fall down to your extended hand, and he scrambles to regain his composure, taking your hand and shaking it gently. “Uh, yes, nice to meet you too.”
With an unexpected clap from your brother, which has both you and Charles jumping slightly, you turn to him with a glare, “Well, now that you know each other, I’ll leave you to get acquainted. And you,” he points to you which elicits a raised eyebrow from you, “don’t scare him off, and for God’s sake change this music.”
“What’s wrong with ABBA?” You ask with a small pout already forming on your lips.
“We need a change,” Charles watches with a silent chuckle as Declan starts walking back towards the kitchen, “ergo, change it!”
“Well that was an interesting exit,” you mumble, eyes following your brother until he’s out of both your and Charles’ views. Afterwards, you turn your attention back to the man standing in front of you, “What do you think about The Smiths?”
“Who?” Charles asks you, confusion written on his face.
“Not The Who,” you nudge him slightly, chuckling softly, though your laughter dies down once you realise he’s really confused. “I– The Smiths, Charles! To die by your side is such a heavenly way to die,” you softly sing, but he replies with a small shake of his head, and a shrug. “Oh, I love The Smiths! Come on, you have a lot to learn.”
As you grab him by his wrist to guide him back inside the apartment, I might be in trouble, he thinks to himself. And then, you turn around to give him a full smile, with a glint of mischief in your eyes that he can't quite interpret, and say, “I can already feel that we are going to be very good friends.”
And then he knows, he’s definitely in trouble.
Helping Hand
Jessie Fleming x Reader
Preview: coming home from working as a mechanic, you notice a pretty girl struggling to change her tire.
Warnings: none
WC: 1.6k
A/N: this was inspired by how dirty I left work the other day, I don’t work as a car mechanic though but this was the easiest way to write the fic.
You had just finished a long shift at work, you felt disgusting. Your hands, arms and face were covered in a sticky and offputting mixture of grease, oil, hydraulic fluid, and likely just dirt. It was the worst part of your job working on heavy machinery in a shop you loved every second of it. Something about taking apart machines, finding the issue and putting it back together was like an exciting 3D puzzle.
As you walked down the sidewalk you noticed a girl, probably close to your age, bent over next to her car. It only takes a second to see what she’s doing, she’s changing a flat tire. Or at least she’s trying to change a flat tire.
You watch her as you continue to walk down the road in her direction, she seems a little confused, flipping through the car manual, picking up and placing down tools. It crosses your mind to help her. After the long day you had, you didn’t really want to do more work but it’s not like you had fully showered and were clean yet. Plus it didn’t hurt that the girl sitting on the ground was pretty and you were a sucker for brown haired girls.
As you approached her, you decided you’d offer the help. “Hey, I don’t mean to overstep, but would you like some help with that?”
The girl turns to you, her face is covered in freckles, her eyes soft. She takes a second, looking you up and down, her eyes lingering over the dirty patches on your clothes and skin. She gives you a smile and a wave. “Oh no, I’m good, thank you.” You notice her accent, she clearly wasn’t from around here.
“You sure? I don’t mind.” You can tell she’s confused and lost and you could see the girl giving up and calling a tow truck or maybe her boyfriend to come help her.
“Yeah I’m sure, thanks.” She gives you a quick glance before she turns back to working.
You then see something and realize now you can’t let this girl keep doing this on her own. So you take a step back, not wanting to overstep after she told you no twice, but still being around.
You can tell the girl knows you’re still behind her. She continues trying to work for a few minutes before she looks back at you, then back to the car, then back to you. She furrows her eyebrows in your direction, indicating her confusion on why you were still standing behind her.
“I’m just being a good citizen now. I’ll call 999 for you when your car falls off the jack that you set up all wrong.” You hold up your phone at her and give it a shake with a smile on your face.
“Oh.” The girl looks up at you then back at the car where it was being held off the ground. “Did I actually do it wrong?”
“Yeah you have it on the body, not on the frame.” You place down your bag and phone on the sidewalk and kneel down next to her. You point out to her that the car jack was just slightly off from where I should be set.
“So can I help you?”
“I guess, I just hate feeling like I can’t do things without someone else’s help. I’m not just a ditsy girl, I went to school for engineering.” You notice a frown on her face, it’s cute.
“Hey changing a tire isn’t something most people know how to do, they should, but most don’t. I really don’t mean for my offer of help to come off condescending. I definitely don’t think you’re ditsy. Most people would give up and call for a tow the second they see the flat tire, you at least were trying.” You give her a smile. She gives you a halfhearted grin.
“Yeah I guess, I just thought I was doing it right. So who taught you how to do this?” She’s turned to you, watching you move the jack on her car.
“I taught myself, but I do mechanics work for a job so, it’s really second nature.”
“Given how dirty you seem, I figured you worked on cars or maybe in a coal mine but I don’t know of any around here.” She makes a joke and looks at you, you can see her studying the lines of dirt across your face.
“Yeah sorry, I promise I tried to wash before I left work, the grease just never comes out.” You hold your hands out, flipping them over to show her. “So can I ask what your plan was going to be if you couldn’t get this yourself?”
“Probably a tow truck, or call Sam or something.” She shrugs. You feel a little deflated at the mention of a man, not that you expected the beautiful girl in front of you to have any interest but you held out a sliver of hope.
“Sam? Is he your boyfriend?” Hoping he was maybe just a friend and you wouldn’t have to completely abandon the idea of asking her out.
“Oh no, she’s my teammate. I feel like she’d know how to do this.” The girl pauses for a second. “I don’t date men.”
“Oh.” Your response accidentally coming out as if you were disappointed in her admitting she didn’t date men.
“Sorry I don’t know why I said that.”
“I don’t date men either.” You throw out the comment, both to make her feel more comfortable in the fact that she just came out on what seemed like accident, or that you wanted to let her know you were into women too.
“So teammate? What do you play?”
“Oh soccer, or football, I guess. I’m also obviously not from here, I’m from Canada hence the lack of accent or I guess to you it probably sounds like I have an accent.”
“What made you move?” You couldn’t help but ask, it wasn’t everyday that you run into someone from another country, let alone one so far away.
“Also soccer.”
“Oh? Really?” You rack your brain wondering if there were other football fans that would move to London just to be near the Premier League teams, which sounded crazy to you.
“What do you do for work? You said you went to school for engineering, is that what you do?”
The girl laughs and her laugh is sweet, it sounds like sunshine. “Will you think I’m a liar if I tell you soccer?”
“Really? Like, you play professionally?”
“Yes.”
“That makes more sense, I just thought you were a diehard fan and moved to watch the games, which I realize now is incredibly stupid to consider. I don’t really follow football, too much running for me. But it’s obviously a popular game around here.” You hear her laugh at your thought process, her laugh is suddenly becoming one of your favorite sounds.
She let you work in silence for a bit. Once you got the jack set up in the right spot it was a quick process to put the spare on. She asked questions here and there, a little about your job, a little about what you were doing to her car.
“When you put the new one on, you have to tighten the bolts in a star pattern, see.” You demonstrate how to correctly tighten the wheel on to the car. “That way it’s not angled and doesn’t put any uneven force on your axel.”
“And there you go!” You hold your hands out as if you’ve just created a masterpiece painting and were displaying it. It had only taken a couple of minutes for you to change the girls tire, you hoped you weren’t holding her up from her plans. She helps clean up, grabbing some of the tools while you lowered the jack and her car back to the ground. You pick up the flat tire and walk it around to where she had the trunk open, placing it inside.
“Thank you again, I really owe you.” She says as her hand reaches to close the hatch of her car.
“Do you by chance like coffee?” It was a completely out of the blue question, but you couldn’t help but ask, hoping it would lead you in the direction of a date.
She looks at her watch and back up to you with confusion on her face. “I do. But isn’t it a little late for coffee?”
“Oh no, I don’t mean today. Maybe sometime this week or weekend if you’re interested, I could take you out to a cafe I like?” Giving her your best convincing smile, you were hoping she’d say yes.
“Wait but I’m supposed to be taking you out, you fixed my car and all.” The girl points at the spare tire on her car.
“I technically didn’t fix it, you still need a new tire. Don’t drive too far on that spare. If you need shop recommendations I know a few good ones in the area that won’t try and upsell you on stupid stuff just because you’re a woman.”
“That would be great.”
“Why don’t you give me your number so I can send you a few places?”
“Wow. Smooth.” She says as she takes your phone putting her name into your phone. And she hands it back to you. You read her contact.
“Jessie Fleming.” You read off her name. The name feels slightly familiar, probably just from jerseys or the radio or tv, you’re not sure but you don’t care to know her as famous footballer Jessie Fleming, you like her as the sweet brown hair brown eyes girl you helped out.
“That’s me.”
You tell her your name and stick out your hand to shake hers, you look down at it, doing your best to wipe it on your jeans before extending your hand again. “I promise my hands are clean, with the exception of maybe any dirt from your tire.”
“It was great to meet you, Jessie, I’ll be sure to text those recommendations and I’ll expect you to tell me when you’re not busy being a professional athlete and I can take you on a coffee date.”
“I will, I promise.”
“Have a good night Jessie!” You say to her before turning to finish your walk down the street. For a second you think about googling the girl but then decide against it when her name pops up on your phone.
Jessie Fleming ⚽️: I have a match in town Saturday but I’ll be free all day Sunday if that works for you?
You: sounds like a date!
You smiled as you typed and sent the message. You had a date and a sudden new interest in women’s football.
Note
would you write a little something about aaron catching jack and reader having a midnight snack, and aaron scolds them at first but he melts when he sees their smiles ? i love your blog ❤️‍🩹
hello hello! first of all, thank you 🥲💛 you just made my heart melt in happiness! i really hope you like it, anon! (reader is not an Agent here!)
Requests are open ✨
There was only one thing you and Jack Hotchner hated in equal measure: the days Aaron was away on cases. Okay, that and broccoli. But Aaron being away was way worst that broccoli. Maybe.
Nevertheless, the fact that sometimes — when Jess wouldn’t be able to take care of Jack, or when you were free from your own job duties (being a Doctor made sure your schedule was almost as hectic as Aaron’s) — you were able to spend those miserable moments together was usually enough to cheer you both up.
It was in one of those nights, after you found out that you wouldn’t have to pull double duty at the hospital and your date night with Aaron and Jack had suddenly became a date night with only Jack, Aaron being called away for a case, that you and Jack started your favorite nightly ritual.
Jack had woken you up after a nightmare, his eyes teary as he looked at you with a pout, rambling at the late hour about the monster inside his wardrobe. It wasn’t a very specific tale — as specific as a kid his age could create with their fearful mind —, but you had learned soon in your relationship with Aaron that the monster inside Jack’s wardrobe had been real, and that he had killed Haley, Aaron’s late wife.
Aaron had never gotten in details about the story of Haley’s murder, but you knew the important information: she had been killed by someone Aaron was hunting at his work, and Jack was hiding inside a box in Aaron’s old office, having heard the shot that killed his mom. Since then, Jack would externalize the memory in nightmares, his mind filling in the blanks he — thankfully — didn’t get to see.
“Can I sleep with you?” Jack had asked that night, once he had finished describing his nightmare, head tucked on your lap as you ruffled his hair slowly, soothingly, “Please?”.
“Of course, sweet pea” you replied, your voice hushed as you’ve noticed he was in the brink of sleep, eyes closing off by the minute, but the little boy too afraid to allow himself to fall back to sleep.
That was the moment you decided it was time.
“You know, Jackers…” you started, a smirk on your face when you noticed his attention had been caught by the mysterious tone of your voice as you kept combing his blonde locks, “Back home, whenever I had a nightmare, my Dad and I would have midnight snacks”.
Jack turned his body to look up at you, his eyes slightly wide as he shook his head quickly, almost terrified at the insulting idea. He was Aaron’s son, after all.
“Daddy says no midnight snacks” Jack whispered, and for a moment you believed he had forgotten Aaron wasn’t at home — even if the two of you were occupying Aaron’s bed, “He says it’ll make my tummy funny”.
“Daddy is not a doctor, I am” you shrugged mischievously, poking at Jack’s nose and feeling your heart warm when he laughed openly, “And I say midnight snacks keep the nightmares away. Do you wanna try?”.
Midnight snacks mostly definitely didn’t keep the nightmares away (you even had a few of them after having the snacks, and Aaron was definitely right to say that they’d make one’s tummy funny), but the fact that it had given Jack some peace of mind was enough to have you coming back to that tradition every night you were over at the Hotchner’s apartment.
That night wasn’t any different.
For some miracle, Aaron wasn’t away for a case for the first time in a few days, and (even more surprisingly!) you weren’t on double duty at the hospital, which meant that, for the first time in a while, you’d be able to spend the night with your boys, at the Hotchner’s home.
Which also meant that you and Jack would’ve to be cautious if you wanted to keep your nightmares away.
“I had a nightmare” Jack whispered in your ear after patting at your side for a few seconds.
You hadn’t been sleeping, because you knew that you moved a lot when waking up, so it would wake Aaron up and your small ritual with Jack would be ruined. But you was also aware that Jack liked to wake you up, to feel like your secret was being kept hidden, that you were safe and shared something that Aaron didn’t know about.
Maybe you were really turning Jack in a mini you. The thought made you smile.
“Go get ready” you instructed in a whisper, “I’ll be there in a sec”.
Jack giggled, and you had to shush him when Aaron moved, always a light sleeper. You waited until Jack’s steps couldn’t be heard in the hallway to stand up, moving on your toes outside the bedroom, cursing when the door creaked, but smiling in victory when Aaron didn’t even move.
Maybe you were really getting good at that.
You moved even more silently towards the living room, finding Jack already equipped with everything he could reach from your secret snacks cabinet — sweets, cookies, and even the kook-aid you had convinced Aaron to buy because you knew Jack loved (and you secretly loves, too).
“Do we have everything we need?” You asked, taking the seat beside Jack and smiling when he moved to lay his head on your chest, opening up the bag of homemade cookies and passing you one.
“We do!” Jack nodded.
Your smile was bright as you kissed Jack’s head, whispering softly, “So let’s scare those ugly nightmares away!”.
You took a bite of your cookie, basking on the amazing feeling they bought, only faintly hearing the sound of Jack taking a bite of his own…
And then the lights turned on.
You moved your head up so quickly that you could’ve had a whiplash, your eyes wide at the image of Aaron — dressed in his pajamas, not a sign of sleep in his eyes — facing you both with a scowl, his arms crossed in front of his chest.
“Can someone explain what is happening here?”.
You gulped audibly, and Jack almost dropped his cookie as he tried to move his body closer to yours. You knew that Aaron wouldn’t hurt you, but you also knew that look, and you didn’t like it.
“What have I said about midnight snacks, Jack?” Aaron asked, looking down at his son.
“That we can’t have them” Jack replied, his voice sounding firmer than you thought it would be, considering Aaron’s tone.
“We’re scaring nightmares away” you intervened, “One snack at a time”.
Jack nodded, pointed at you, “She said her daddy used to say ‘one midnight snack a day keeps the nightmares away’”.
“That he did” you smiled down at Jack, ruffling his hair for a second before looking up at Aaron, a sided, almost shy smile on her face, “Would you like to join us for cookies?”.
Aaron didn’t flinch, he didn’t move. You had your doubts he was even breathing.
That was, until Jack tried to open his Kool-Aid Bursts, the drink immediately falling all over both of your bodies, causing Jack to give a strangled scream and you to look at the red-colored drink all over your pajama pants.
“Oh my…”.
The sound of your laughter was the next thing that bursted through the living room, being followed by Jack’s, that immediately threw his body against your chest again, only making both your situations worst.
You looked up at Aaron to find a smile slipping through his face, only a small, hidden motion upwards of his lips, as if he didn’t want you and Jack to know that, even against his will, you had managed to soften him a bit.
“Come have snacks with us, Daddy!” Jack invited between panting breaths, the most captivating smile on his lips as he waved to his father, “We have cookies and muffins!”.
Aaron shook his head, moving to sit beside you and pulling both your bodies close to his, “This is the only time this is happening, okay?” He mumbled as you passed him a muffin — orange, as you knew he liked.
You nodded in agreement, nuzzling your body comfortably against his, a dazzled smile on your face, “Yeah, sure”.
It goes unsaid it definitely wasn’t the last time.
And none of you wanted it to be.
Thank you for the request ✨
Pairings: Aaron Hotchner x daughter!reader
Imagine: having period cramps is one of the worst things, but luckily you have a dad who knows what will help, or in other words Aaron Hotchner is the best father you could ask for
Warnings: period, period cramps, pain, you know normal period things (me writing this as a woman knowing full well most men don’t know what I actually mean), hotch being the best dad ever, hotch cuddles, hotch hugs, idk what more
A/N Me 🤝 writing fics for my own comfort
This is my first Criminal Minds fic so I hope I did ok, and if you have a request for Criminal Minds pls send them in
So I’m mainly writing this because my period cramps are worse than normal, and I can take a lot of pain before it gets too much, and my period cramps are usually bad, so thought why not write some comfort fic about it and here we are, this is for anyone who have period cramps so enjoy I guess, sorry that it’s short
Side note: I wanted to ad that this is what usually helps me I’m not saying it helps everyone
Tumblr media
You knew you should’ve been up by now, but there was no energy in your body to do so. All your energy went to not cry out in loud sobs of pain. It felt like someone was stabbing knives into your stomach and twisting them around. Any position you tried made the excruciating pain worse. Even the thought of walking to the kitchen to get a glass of water to take with the medication caused the pain to spike up. Your nauseous state didn’t help nor the fact that it felt like you were going to faint as soon as you lifted your head up.
Jack had already left for school and you were supposed to be in your father’s car in ten minutes so that he could drive you to school. However if you had a say in the matter that would not be the case, if you got your will through you’d be at home the whole day wallowing in the pain you got once a month as you (in your dramatic words) bled out.
You were about to take your phone (not wanting to yell) to ask your father if you could stay home when you heard his voice yell out to you. “Y/N, we’re leaving in ten, you ready?” seconds later when he hadn’t gotten a response, your door swung open and the bright light from outside shined inside your once dark room. Your dad saw you laying on the bed and even if he wasn’t a profiler he would still have been able to see the pain that you were trying to hide from showing on your face.
Aaron’s face softened as concern washed over his expression the more he looked at you. He went over to your bed and crouched down, his hand going out in concern towards your forehead thinking you might have a fever and a headache at first, but you felt completely fine against his hand. “What’s wrong honey” he heard you take a deep breath before letting out some few mumbled words “period cramps, hurt a lot”
“You wanna stay home” Aaron noticed how you sighed in relief at his question, and was glad that he had understood the situation right. He got a nod from you and went out of your room to tell the school you weren’t coming in today. Not long after he was back to crouching beside your bed, this time caressing your arm softly.
“I have to go to work, but we won’t have a case for a while so you can come with me if you want, we can stop at the store on the way and get-“ he was cut of by a groan coming from you as you tried to once more not give in to the pain.
“Yeah I’d like to come with you if it means I get to cuddle with you, otherwise I’ll stay here”
“Go get ready, I’ll get you a glass of water for the meds, okay?” Hotch got another nod from you and he went out to leave you to get dressed, well as dressed as pajamapants and one of your fathers oversized hoodie was. You took the painkillers, your phone, charger, headphones and grabbed the coziest blanket you could find and went out to the car.
Not soon after you’d been to the store, bought a ton of chocolate and were now in your fathers office. Aaron had changed from working by the desk to sitting on the couch writing reports as you cuddled into him. Headphones on (as to not disturb your father from his work) as your comfort show was playing on your phone. A bunch of chocolate wrappers were spread around on the floor and desk.
And even later that day when you got home, Aaron cuddled with you as you watched movies and ate chocolate. A heat pad (is that what they are called, I literally have no clue, says the person who always uses them) laid across your stomach, which together with the warmth from your father relieved some of the pain. That along with the fact that Aaron’s hugs could always bring some of the pain away. Maybe it was a dad thing, you didn’t know but you were happy that your father was a great hugger, and that his hugs always made you feel okay.
One issue I don't quite get and want to briefly comment on is the idea that Alastor has to be either an old-school villain who's just evil for the sake of being evil, or more of an antagonist with actual depth, emotions, and traumatic backstory to explain his actions, letting the audience relate to him. I think we're going to extremes here. We don't have to go, "Oh, I understand why he would do that". The main goal is for us to say, "Oh, so that's his deal".
Tumblr media
While we don't know exactly what Alstor's deal is, what the exact terms of his contract are etc., he is, without a doubt, the most complex character in the show. He's in a unique position since he technically helps Charlie achieve her goal, but it's obvious he's in it for selfish reasons, with some grander scheme going on behind the scenes. May he eventually be the one the main cast will have to fight at some point? Sure. Would it be even more fun because he is a part of the said cast? Absolutely.
Tumblr media
Let's get one thing straight: Alastor is evil. He's in Hell for a good reason. He's a cannibal and a serial killer. And I know we can absolutely forgive characters for doing the absolute worst, but he is not a good person. And yes, you can like (and simp for) evil characters. (If you think being a fan of intriguing fictional creations makes you a terrible person, you need to get off twitter and tiktok to actually interact with real people.) At the same time, the finale of season 1 simply made it clear that Al does have depth, and that he's going to be a three-dimensional character. Not that his actions are going to be suddenly justified.
But why can't we explore evil characters while enjoying them and letting them be evil? We can. Alastor started his carnage in Hell before making his deal, so it's not the main reason behind his less-than-questionable actions. For now, he's looking for freedom so he can (re)gain power and be in control again. At the same time, he is growing attached to the other characters. I highly doubt he'll be redeemed; we'll just learn more about him, his backstory, and his goals.
Tumblr media
Can you even call Al an antagonist? If you ask me, he's more of an anti-hero. Heck, do we know who he is? Not really, and that's the point. He's one of the main characters, but he makes himself separate in both the story and the writing. He's a wild card.
Tumblr media
We don't know what's coming for the Radio Demon in season 2. The first one established that there's more to him and that he started growing fond of the other characters, while the finale made Al realise it almost got him killed. He was humiliated and it reminded him even more that he's still under someone else's control. At least, that's how I see it. Alastor may become more sinister as the story progresses, and as he's getting more and more desperate to free himself of the contract. AT THE SAME TIME, he did come back to the Hotel with a smile and consent for a group hug, so it's not like he's going to blow it up in the first episode. He's not against the Hotel itself. He's doing his own thing, knowing that the titular establishment is an inherent part of his story. All paths lead to the Hazbin Hotel. My guess is that he will simply become more active.
Tumblr media
Alastor is already a three-dimensional character; there is no doubt about that. But it's not like he's getting reckoned here. I don't really understand where this notion of our Radio Demon being an old-school villain came from in the first place. He's always been a mystery. Okay, maybe in the pilot it was not so clear-cut, and I'll admit, it would be fun to just see the Radio Demon as a powerful entity overlooking the hotel for his own pleasure. Turning him into a villain later on? Meh, depends on what would happen in the story if that were the case. Watching Jack Horner in "Puss in Boots", reminded me how much I missed villains that were not an initial antagonist's evil-incarnate-superior. However, it was quite quickly established that there is more to Alastor. He would have to appear pretty rarely to not go through any character arc in a show with such an ambitious storyline as Hazbin Hotel (and what a delightful character would we lose if that was the direction the writing team would have taken?). I would mention the pacing actually harming that development, but it's clear this is the show's biggest problem, and we just have to take things for granted.
If anything, Alastor is being restrained from being purely evil. To me, he's a combination of both of the character types I mentioned at the beginning, leaning more toward the well-developed anti-hero. Just let evil characters be evil and three-dimensional.
i am so so sorry for the sheer amount of headcanons i'm making you crank out, HOWEVER... i am so curious as to if you have any headcanons for nina and natalie as a duo. i love the way you perceive them and write them it genuinely makes me so happy
Tumblr media
i had to doodle them . ok. lets go..
nat was one of the first people nina met from jeff, since she and jeff lived in the barn together.
nina thought nat was a lesbian when they first met . that is literally the only reason why she wasnt mad jeff was living with a woman.
although nina was like, one of the ONLY people to notice toby/nat tension and was sooo heartbroken when she realized they were never getting together..... but then was relieved they didnt get together when she got over jeff because 'well i can't be the only single one!'
again, natalie grew up with 0 girl friends, only hung out with her brother and boys. even after meeting the creeps, theyre still mostly guys. so she's just kinda really awkward and weird around girls. not in a like, 'oh girls r so annoying' way but like... she just doesnt know how to fit in. she just feels so different in the worst possible way and always has.
and nina is very girly, outgoing, touchy, friendly, cute, etc. so it was very like UMMM?!? idk. natalie kept snapping at her, assuming she was fake and weird and just trying to get something from nat, but nina was so persistent and just. friendly. it started making natalie feel warm.
nina's presence started to heal natalies inner little girl. she had it stolen from her time and time again, from her dad, her brother, her peers - the operator, too.
so the two are eventually actual friends. they'll text and play mobile phone games together. sometimes they'll just sit on call and nina will be talking her head off while nat does her own thing at home. one time nat was at tobys cabin and nina was talking about toby on speaker and toby walked in and was like 'hey nina' .... nina almost threw up she was so embarrassed.
nina loves visiting nats bar because everyone is always talking to nina and giving her attention and buying her drinks, and at first nat was irritated but it kinda got nat some better tips since the customers started realizing ninas her friend. so nat was pleased. LOL
nat was never the type to go shopping, but she'll follow nina around and sit while nina tries on clothes and carry around all her bags that she buys LOL... ninas made jokes about nat being boyfriend material and nat just flatout says smth about how nina should get over jeff cuz he would never.
nat is friends with jeff but she's oddly comfortable just telling nina that he's a piece of shit. and ninas always like NOOO U DONT GET IT U DONT SEE WHAT I DO and nats always just .. not... impressed..
nina's always inviting nat out to try new foods. nat grew up just eating bread and noodles with butter half the time so it's fun. nina always tries to pay bc 'well i invited you!!!'. sometimes toby tags along but he feels a way abt going in public places..
nina rarely visits jack cuz she has no reason to, but nat is friends with him so sometimes nina pops in and she's always like ^_^ HELLO TALL MYSTERIOUS SLIGHTLY MONSTEROUS MAN... <3... nat smacks the back of her head cuz she's being dumb and drooling over a bunch of rando freaks. ... . ok i love nina and she owes jeff nothing but she is def not loyal LOLLLL AND SHE HAS THE RIGHT TO FAWN OVER EVERYONE she's a fangirl at heart.
they watch a ton of shows together. nina got nat into horror kdrama stuff, but they have to watch in dub cuz nat cant read the subtitles fast enough . . . at first nina cringed but now she doesnt care.
nat's painted/drawn nina several times, and nina almost cries everytime. she's put the drawings up on her wall before but anytime nat's at her apartment, she takes it down bc 'i dont want my art on ur wall stop it' LOL... kinda rude but whatevs.
ugh theyre just so fucking cute guys im sorry i love them . holds them. brushes their hair.
desperation
Tumblr media
warnings: drug use, suicidal thoughts, nsfw, vomit, depression, trauma, angst. summary: your whole life you had never once felt special, that feeling can eat you up inside, it can make you do things you'd never do to keep it. word count: 6.1 k -disclaimer- this is in no way representing people in real life, I respect enhypen as artists and simply wanted to use them in a story. all circumstances are fake.
part two
a/n - this has been rotting for a while because it's a little out of my comfort zone. I don't usually write anything considered nsfw so I hope it came out alright. let me know.
YOU WERE AVERAGE. something you so desperately wanted to escape your whole life, but that was the truth. you had good grades, but they were never stellar. you were praised for your obedience, but never awarded. always an angel, never a god. people never take notice, they are all too wrapped up in their own lives to ever notice someone so horribly, average. but you noticed. in fact, it never quite left your mind, always hovering in the back corner, taunting you. jack of all trades, master of none, that’s why college was going to be different.
your entire life you were told, “just get past high school, it's all uphill from there.” but you’d all but completed your first year of college and still everything felt the same. you wanted it over with, all of it. maybe if you made a big deal out of it, you’d be known for something. but you were a coward, scared of scarring your own flesh should things go south. and then you’d be relevant, for a minute. until people eventually forgot again and got wrapped back up in their own lives.
your roomates were where you were hoping to make friends, but that never happened. mina was a bitch, for lack of a more descriptive word, and held no interest towards you unless she’d run out of girls to party with. and when that happened, she dragged you to said party and fed you drink after drink until you puked your guts out from alcohol poisoning. and the worst part? you just let her, so she kept doing it. giselle was almost worse then you. almost cause at least she excelled at school work. giselle would spend hours upon hours in your cramped dorm room studying for the next exam, spilling snacks and papers everywhere, refusing to clean up. you never knew peace the whole year between never being alone in your own, clean, room and vomiting your guts out into the early hours.
“hey,” came mina’s no longer sickly sweet voice. instead it had turned into a cold demand as the school year went on, “sana and jihyo ditched, you’re coming with me tonight.” she waited a few beats for your answer before raising an eyebrow, you shifted uncomfortably. you hoped today would be the day you’d grow up and refuse her, but cowardice is one of those emotions that latch onto you like a leech, and you were a coward at your core.
“uh yeah, I guess. but I don’t really feel like drinking tonight, mina.” you managed to choke out. mina scoffed in response,
“oh really? come on, you say that all the time and then you drink so much you start hacking up your insides, forget it.” she rolled her eyes and left your room, most likely to go change. you whimpered and dropped your phone on your bed on the verge of frustrated tears, not bothering to mention the reason for that drinking was mina herself.
“just tell her no.” came a slightly warmer voice to your right.
“I can’t, giselle.’
“can’t or won’t. its pathetic.” her harsh words offset her softer tone and only managed to make you feel worse. peeling yourself off the bed, you stepped over piles of clothing to get to your designated closet. rifling through clothes, you settled on an all black ensemble and snatched your makeup bag to take to the dorm bathrooms. god forbid you show up to a college party with mina of all people, and not wear makeup. mina always talked about her reputation, she simply couldn’t be seen with you if you didn’t at least look decent. mina was superficial, narcissistic. if you looked good, she was satisfied, but don’t ever look too good. you simply didn’t feel like being overly punished tonight, so a light makeup look it was. grabbing a pair of alcohol stained heels, you made your way to mina’s room to let her know you were ready.
“huh, not too bad.” she nodded at your outfit and finished combing on her mascara in front of her floor length mirror. “sunghoon is picking me up, so find a ride okay? I’ll text you the address.” your shoulders sagged as you took in the information, mina always did this.
“mina, I really don’t feel like going if I don’t have a ride. if you have sunghoon, why do you need me there?” she froze patting down her skin tight dress and turned to face you.
“why do I need you? let me get this straight, I don’t. I don’t need you, but I’m trying here.” her voice changed into a sickly sweet one and she strode over to you to pat your shoulder. “I’m trying to be friends, I just feel like you’re being really ungrateful.” you stiffened as she pouted her perfect, glossy lips and pulled her hand back.
“no, I’m sorry mina. I’m not trying to be ungrateful, just my car’s at home.” you frowned and grabbed her hand in an apology. mina sighed and held your hand in hers.
“alright, I guess we can give you a ride then. but you have to sit in the back, and don’t ruin this for me.” she smirked slightly and brushed past you as she grabbed a few last minute essentials. you hung your head in shame, you fell for it, again. desperation didn’t look good, and worst of all is it attracted the people who loved to use it. “hurry up!” mina called as her hells clicked on the cheap vinyl flooring and you were scurrying out the door after her.
sunghoon drove an all black expensive car, it was sleek as it pulled up and cool to the touch as you gripped the back door. but it reeked of cologne, body odor, alcohol, and weed as you yanked the door open. you gagged slightly at the combination of smells and stepped over trashed trojan packages in the back seat.
“huh, didn’t know I had a passenger.” sunghoon frowned at you, his voice was distant and cold.
“don’t worry ‘hoon. she’s a good friend.” mina smiled as she touched his shoulder. you caved into yourself and prepared for a silent ride, trying to ignore mina’s flirty tone as the car glided away from the dorms.
“so, what’s your name?” it took you a minute to realize sunghoon was addressing you, and by the time you were ready to answer mina did it for you.
“she’s my other roommate, you know? the boring one, not the brainiac.” sunghoon hmm’d in acknowledgement and the attention immediately shifted back to mina. you cringed at your own lack of response and mourned the second of attention he had allowed to you. with the rest of the ride being silent on your end, it felt like an eternity before arriving at the frat house where the party would be held. you watched as sunghoon helped mina out of the car and stumbled your way out on your own. the three of you made your way into the house that had music pumping through the windows. within seconds of entrance your nose was hit with a wave of smells and none of them pleasant. you followed diligently behind mina and sunghoon to a small gathering of people surrounded by alcohol and could almost feel your liver protesting from the months of abuse. mina shoved a red solo cup of some alcoholic liquid in your hand as she plopped down on sunghoon’s lap and laughed at something he said. you just stared at the strange liquid, your mouth creating too much saliva in preparation for the amount of vomiting sure to follow.
“you okay there?” came a voice aimed at you. your head snapped up to meet eyes with a very pretty boy. his sharp nose and wide eyes reminded you of a deer and his slightly red hair only added to the comparison.
“uh yeah, I just don’t really drink.” you managed to get out. he stared at you with a blank look before chucking and nudging another boy next to him.
“you hear this chick? she doesn’t drink and she’s at jay’s party, that’s crazy man.” you frowned at him, moving slightly closer so that you didn’t have to yell.
“jay? who’s that?” apparently this question was hilarious as he and his friend burst out laughing.
“man does this girl know nothing?” you felt your heart sink as they continued to laugh and you felt mina’s cold stare burning from the back of your head.
“sorry.” you mumbled out and stared back down at the drink.
“its whatever, you’re just at the wrong place.” the boy said with a slight laugh left in his voice. he brushed off his jeans off and stood up, offering you his hand. you stared up at him as he waited, he contorted his face into a strange expression and leaned down to grab your hand. “man, you’re one weird girl.” he chuckled as he started dragging you behind him.
“wait, heeseung!” a high pitched voice called and the boy paused to look back. “where are you going?” you turned to see mina doing her signature pout at him and fought the urge to roll your eyes.
“fuck off mina, nowhere.” he called back with a middle finger raised and his buddies roared with laughter as you were met with the rare sighting of mina flushing with embarrassment. “cocksucker.” the boy, heeseung apparently, muttered under his breath. you snorted at that and he looked down at you as he dragged you forward again. “oh come on, even her friends know.”
“i know.” you replied. as you moved through the party, you saw a boy laying down on a counter as another poured alcohol from a keg into his mouth. he had a sharp jawline and wore sunglasses despite the time of night and indoor activity. heeseung noticed you looking and pointed at the boy.
“that’s jay. the alcoholic.” he said point blank, it suddenly made much more sense why it was required to drink here. heeseung pushed a beaded curtain out of the way as he grabbed a heavy metal door and turned the handle.
“wait, where-” you were cut off as he pulled you into a garage and a wave of smoke invaded your nostrils. the air was hazy with smoke and your eyes watered as heesung continued to pull you.
“hey heeseung, what’s up.” spoke one of the boys sitting on one of the very old and beat up leather couches within the garage. you counted a total of four men and they all had either a cig or joint lit up and in their pinched fingers. heeseung jerked his chin up and slapped his hand against the guy who had spoken in some sort of handshake.
“this is sunghoon's friend, she’s chill.” heeseung announced and pushed you slightly towards the first couch which held one of the boys. you looked back at him, ignoring the comment about actually being friends with sunghoon, and he motioned for you to sit down. the couch sunk and groaned due to age and your added weight, but you couldn’t deny that the worn leather was comforting and warm.
“hey, I’m sunoo.” the boy next to you spoke. he had pink dyed hair and soft features that made him seem approachable, he blew out smoke into your face as he spoke. you coughed wafting away the plume and stuck out your other hand to shake with his. two of the other boys let out a lazy chuckled at your cough and formalities.
“you sure she’s cool? looks like she’s never smoked a day in her life.” joked one of the others.
“well she doesn’t drink, and you losers need some pussy or at least a friend.” heeseung joked. “im out.” he waved bye to you and your eyes followed him, no longer feeling safe in this warm garage.
“oh come one, we’re not that bad.” the one that had joked spoke. “i’m jake, jungwon, and ni-ki” he motioned to himself and the other two boys. jake had the twinge of an accent to his voice and he had fluffy hair with soft features. jungwon reminded you of a small cat as his eyes were slanted and round and his soft smile revealed dimples. ni-ki. ni-ki scared you. you sucked in a small breath when his sharp eyes snapped to you and the cigarette smoke he let out made your head spin. his cropped hair hung over his eyes but showed off multiple piercings and was jet black. he looked tall, long and lanky as his legs hung out of the recliner he inhabited and his long arm hung over the edge. as jake and jungwon went back to talking, ni-ki held your eyes in his and you felt unable to look away. you heard a breathy laugh come out of sunoo,
“i think she likes you.” your eyes snapped to sunoo and you felt your face become splotchy with heat. his breathy laugh turned into a boisterous one that forced him to start coughing and put out his joint. the laugh caught jake and jungwon’s attention and both boys let out a chuckle.
“aww, i think she has a crush. huh, hyung?” jake slapped jungwon is agreeance and both faded out boys laughed. you felt shame course through your veins and mentally beat yourself up for staring for too long. the worst part was that he was attractive. you’d never been in a relationship and guys had yet to ask you out, you felt shameful that he now had to deal with your attraction. you risked looking back up, and noticed he was still staring. he held up two fingers and your eyes remained locked with his as he motioned for you to come over to the recliner. your heart dropped to your ass as you debated what to do. but apparently you took too long deciding because with a deceptively innocent laugh, sunoo shoved you off the couch causing you to fall on your hands and knees. this only spurred the boys on further, causing them to howl with laughter leaving only ni-ki stone cold silent. you watched from the floor as he put out his cigarette and leaned forward with his forearms resting on his knees. the laughing momentarily stopped as the boys waited for what he was going to do. he only spoke one word, but your heart froze.
“crawl.” the laughter began again, more hysterical then previously and tears pricked your eyes in shame. you couldn’t help the shiver that went through your body at hearing his voice. it was deep, and despite the sufficient smoke, it was rich and smooth. you felt sunoo swing his foot into the back of your thigh and you fell forward to catch yourself, causing you indirectly to crawl closer to ni-ki.
“she’s seriously going to!” jake let out gleefully as laughter continued to ring throughout the garage. this snapped you to attention and you quickly scrambled up to stand and try to walk out of the entrapped space. you were holding back tears and the walls suddenly felt far too close. the once comforting warmth of the smoke turned too hot and your breathing increased rapidly. as you moved, ni-ki reached out and snatched your wrist harshly and tugged you toward the recliner.
“oh come on, we’re just playing. right?” sunoo spoke with a teasing lightness to his voice and ni-ki pulled you onto his lap. you froze in fear, trying not to shift in your seat or cry as he reached over to pull another cigarette out of his pack.
“right.” you mumbled eyes widening as sunoo gave you a ‘hell yeah!’ and slapped his hand against yours the same way heeseung and jake had previously.
“she’s funny!” jake let out a stoned chuckle as jungwon snorted and took another hit. you looked down at your palm after you felt a weight in it and made eye contact with a black lighter. you looked over your shoulder to see ni-ki put the cigarette to his lips and motion for you to light it. shaking slightly, you took a few tries to strike the lighter into action and held the flame to the stick. you went to turn away, but yelped when you felt a large hand grip your chin and forcefully twist your head back. ni-ki took a large inhale and forced his thumb in your mouth to pry your jaw open. frozen in fear, your heart pounded loudly in your chest as his grip on your jaw became painful and the tears you had been holding back threatened to finally fall. as he leaned forward, your eyes widened only to have copious amount of smoke released into your mouth, nose, and eyes. snapping your face out of his grip you coughed violently away from him as tears finally fell down your face. through your coughing fit you heard the three others in the room hoot with laughter.
“don’t cry now, he likes that!” one of them joked which spurred the others on even more. the humiliation you felt was horrific, this would go down in your head as one of the most humiliating evenings you had ever had. you tried not to think too much about what that comment was hinting at, and instead your mind reeled with how to get out of the situation. through the haze of coughing and an attempt to regain your pride, you snatched the cig from his hands, took a deep inhale and blew it right into his face. the laughter stopped. nobody moved. and then a low rumbling laugh came from ni-ki and you felt your whole body relax. he wasn’t mad, which was good because the atmosphere and reactions of the other boys felt like if he was, you weren’t going to make it out of this garage in one piece.
“so,” sunoo began, “what’s your major?”
------------------------------ + -------------------------------
after that party, you didn’t mind going with mina as much anymore. though, the amount of times you wanted to attend and the amount of times mina asked was so severely disproportionate, that you didn’t get to see your new found friends for at least a week before she invited you out again. when getting ready for the party, you took extra care of your makeup and outfit thinking of the boy with the dark eyes.
“what’s taking so long? got someone to impress?” mina joked with a glint of danger in her eyes, not unnoticed by you.
“oh no, just am trying to keep up you know.” you smiled hesitantly back at her and watched as she softened slightly.
“ok well, our rides here so unless you wanna walk..” she left her end hanging but you understood the implications. going down the elevator ride, you held your phone in your hands sending a quick text to sunoo to make sure he and his friends were in attendance tonight. you had been beyond grateful when sunoo offered his number to you at the end of the night and you two had actually been keeping in contact. you felt like you had finally gained a friend in this messed up experience and were giddy with the excitement of acceptance. mina was busy with taking pre-party selfies until the doors opened and you were able to make out a familiar black car.
“you staying with sunghoon?”
“yeah, he has a nice dick.” mina said crassly and you paused in shock momentarily. letting out an awkward cough, you tried to cover up your prudeish shock.
“oh, yeah I get that.” she turned and gave you a look of pure pity before running up to sunghoon’s car and your face burned with embarrassment for the millionth time. mina was quick to start up a conversation with sunghoon, but his attention turned to you when you sat in the back.
“oh you’re back. how was last time, the guys nice enough?” mina was stunned into silence when she glanced back at you.
“uh yeah, sunoo was really nice. I think they just like to joke around a lot.” sunghoon let out a soft chuckle.
“yeah that’s for sure, they mean no harm though. hope you didn’t take anything personally.” you shook your head and smiled softly at him through his mirror. mina piped up again believing the strange conversation to be over, until sunghoon cut her off. “ni-ki can be a real dick, but he’s a good friend when you get to know him. he give you are hard time?” this time mina let out an audible huff and glared back at you. shrinking from her gaze you responded.
“oh well I mean he definitely startled me, but he was fine.”
“hah! startled, yeah thats a good word for ni-ki.”
“who’s ni-ki?” mina blurted out, desperately trying to stay in the conversation. a flush slowly climbed up your neck in response to mina’s direct ask and sunghoon let out a hoot.
“really ni-ki? I mean some people are freaky I guess, good for you.” sunghoon laughed as he said this, ignoring mina’s question in favor of slapping the steering wheel.
“it’s not like that!” you tried to get out as quickly as possible, but sunghoon continued to laugh joking about how he was ‘so gonna tell jake’. the glare mina sent your way was enough to get you sinking back down in your seat and staying silent the rest of the ride with sunghoon’s occasional laughter making up the rest of the sound.
you didn’t wait for mina and sunghoon this time, waving to them as you left the car and walked into the house. you expected the group of boys to occupy the garage again so you immediately began looking for a door leading there. in doing so, you bumped into someone familiar.
“hey, how’s it going?” heeseung asked with a smile.
“oh, hi heeseung. it’s alright, how about you?”
“uh pretty boring so far, was gonna see if the guys had it any better.” your eyes lit up at the mention of your friends.
“oh great, I was heading there. lead the way.” he smiled as he gripped your wrist and guided you through the crowded party. this time, he headed for the stairs and you carefully placed your heels on each step. falling was not on your agenda and you were intent on going to one party this year where you didn’t embarrass yourself somehow. when he entered the room, the familiar smell of weed and cigarettes comforted you.
“theres my girl!” you heard sunoo call out and you couldn’t help but let out a wide smile and little giggle as you waved to the boy. jake and jungwon stood up to give you and heeseung a hug greeting, clearly they were less faded then the first time you met them. ni-ki sent a piercing gaze from across the room and scoffed as he packed a bowl. while the boys were occupied with heeseung, you walked over to the side with ni-ki and sunoo.
“hi ni-ki.” you said hesitantly, showing him a soft smile. his sharp eyes snapped back up to you and you wilted under his stare.
“we’re not friends.” was all he let out and your smile completely fell.
“oh be nice.” sunoo scoffed as he pulled you by your waist onto the bean bag he occupied. ni-ki continued to glare as he packed the bowl, noticeably at sunoo’s arm currently around your waist. you and sunoo continued what was your previous conversation over text as the three others made their way over. ni-ki lit the pipe and took a deep inhale before passing it into your hands. you held the pipe in your hands for a few seconds, just staring at it, before the boys let out copious amounts of laughter. at that moment, the door to the upstairs room sung open and you were grateful for the distraction. sunghoon and mina made their way in the room with many objections coming from the boys.
“mina, get outta here.” heeseung sighed. mina’s only response was to roll her eye’s and flip him off.
“oh please, I’m here for my friend.” mina said, smiling so sweetly at you that you had to fight the urge to cringe. sunoo rolled his eyes and grabbed the pipe from your hands to take a long hit.
“there, like that.” he smiled sincerely and handed it back to you. with the added pressure of mina glaring intensely at you, you felt even more nervous to even try and take a hit.
“you’re so annoying.” you heard to your right and the next thing you knew you were being manhandled and dragged in front of ni-ki. gripping your face harshly like last time, he stuffed the pipe in your mouth and you cringed from the clink of the glass against your teeth. liting the bowl, he motioned for you to inhale and you took a large hit from the pipe. ripping it out of your mouth, he yanked your face closer to himself.
“breath.” and you let out all the smoke into his mouth, coughing slightly at the burning feeling in your throat. “there.” he said harshly, shoving you away and tossing the pipe to jake on your left. he leaned back into the bean bag and you watched as his thighs manspread trying desperately not to stare. you were brought out of your intense staring by mina’s high pitched voice.
“me too, ni-ki.” she pouted her lips at her and you watched as sunghoon took a sip of his beer and stared at his phone, clearly not caring. suddenly you were worried, maybe ni-ki acted like this with everyone. you weren’t special. you sunk back into sunoo and he simply patted your shoulder trying not to laugh at your behavior. ni-ki scoffed and pulled out a cigarette, effectively ignoring mina. you watched as her face faltered and for the first time, saw doubt in her eyes. you tried to not let a feeling of pride fill you, but the idea of being special to someone caused you to lose rational thought.
------------------------------ + -------------------------------
your mind had begun to rot. you thought about it day and night, the fact that you’ve been accepted and for once you were special. sunoo’s texts didn’t loose their consistency, in fact you two had built a wonderful friendship, far better then you and mina’s friendship. that one had deteriorated rapidly after all. but you were struggling to feel any emotion other then glee. mina’s face from that night had never left your mind since, the second guessing, the doubt that was clearly eating her up inside. you didn’t think mina had ever once been denied. you knew she had never be denied in favor of you of all people. even living in your own world in these past few days, her behavior had not gone unnoticed.
“hey.” came giselle’s soft voice from across the room. you looked up from your phone to see her lying on her side facing you, bangs clipped up and glasses sliding slightly off her nose.
“yes?”
“is it just me or is mina…acting strange?” you gulped down a bit of guilty saliva that had made its way into your mouth. “no, unhinged is a better word.” she wasn’t wrong. mina had been lashing out more then usual, not going to as many parties and spending a lot of time in her room. in favor of speaking, you met her question with a shrug. “did it finally happen?” you could tell what giselle was asking, and you knew she would bother you the rest of the night unless you answered. you nodded tentatively and giselle let out a small giggle. “serves her right.” you were surprised. you knew giselle and mina weren’t close, but you didn’t think giselle would delight in her downfall.
“is that bad?” giselle tilted her head in questioning. “that we’re happy about it?”
“ha, no hun. it’s not bad, serves that bitch right. I don’t know how you put up with her.” she looked back down to her phone and plopped a big, salty chip in her mouth. you rolled on your back, giselle’s response made you feel a bit better about the whole situation. maybe even if you were horribly average, you were bearable to most. and special to someone.
“hey, giselle?”
“hm?”
“do you like me?”
“fuck no.”
------------------------------ + -------------------------------
mina had finally given in. you knew that drinking and partying were an itch to her, and she had to scratch it eventually. when she did, she would invite you. all you had to do was bide your time until you could see your friends again, and that time came almost a week after mina’s miniature depressive episode.
“come on slut, let’s go party!” mina had popped her head in your dorm room. you had to fight a frown, this was not how mina had been acting recently. she seemed too upbeat, excited. she had barely left her room or spoke a word recently, this mina scared you.
“sure, that’s fine.” you moved to pick out some clothes.
“so, i was wondering. are you a virgin?” you froze mid hanger toss and your attention snapped to her. you could practically feel the shift of giselle’s uninterested eyes to her’s now, glaring at attention. you were never one who was gifted at lying.
“uh, yeah. i guess.” you mumbled out and mina let out a high pitched giggle.
“aww that’s so cute, no wonder that guy likes you.” this time you completely dropped your clothes.
“huh?” you flushed bright red, your thoughts instantly going towards the boy with the sharp eyes.
“yeah, jake told me.” she said, far too brightly.
“really?” i asked. the genuine hope in your voice made you inwardly cringe at your own desperation.
“yup, so we better get going soon!” mina sweeped out of the room and you tried to get yourself together. putting your favorite outfit on, that showed a little more skin then usual, and finishing up your makeup. as you grabbed your purse to follow behind mina, you could’ve sworn you heard a whisper come from behind you. giselle.
pathetic.
the party was generic, filled with drugs and alcohol and young adults grinding on each other. you were eager to find the designated smoke room and texted sunoo to let him know you were there. as you began walking towards what you assumed was the east wing, this house was bigger than any you’d ever been in, mina hooked her arm in yours.
“you meeting our friends?” an ounce at irritation flared up at her words, our?
“yeah, sunoo told me where they were.” she just smiled and let you lead the way, which you did with reluctance. swinging open what you assumed was the right door, you were met with the signature smell of jake’s weed and cheers.
“where you been!” jake let out as he stumbled up and pulled you into a tight hug. you giggled as he shook you back and forth with sunoo shouting protests behind him. jungwon gave you a small wave as the two other boys dragged you to their couch, laughter still bubbling up within you. you were rarely this happy. still reeling from their exciting welcome, you ignored ni-ki’s usual glare and gave him a genuine smile and wave.
“its bong night, you ever smoke from one sweetheart?” sunoo asked, brushing your hair from your forehead. not wanting to be ostracized, you nodded your head in an unconvincing agreeance. the other boys oooh’d in ‘oh really?’s with one being far less forgiving of the unconvincing fib.
“little liar, of course she hasn’t” ni-ki’s harsh voice cut through the air. “gonna have to teach her just like last time.” like cold water you were instantly knocked out of your giddy mood and visibly deflated. this only seemed to irritate him more. “oh don’t do that shit, it’s annoying.” you were never one to control your emotions. it was one of the reasons people found it so easy to poke at your insecurities and weak spots. you hated yourself for it. you were completely aware that it was a weakness, but could never bring yourself to control it. this was one of those moments. the hot shame of embarrassment crept its way from your gut as your eyes welled against your will. the guys actually seemed to be at loss. sunoo glared at ni-ki and rubbed slow circles on your back, but it was painfully obvious none of them had dealt with this before. the cherry on top was mina’s silent, cold glare you could feel penetrating your spine. ni-ki let out a large sigh before crushing his cigarette and opening his arms. drunk at the possibility of acceptance, and the fact that against all odds, mina told you he had feelings for you, you allowed yourself to be scooped in his arms like putty. it was humiliating how quickly you were at ease. he had long, rather large arms that encased you and made you feel comforted. as the conversation caught back up again, you completely relaxed into his arms and allowed him to occasionally blow smoke into your face.
the rest of the night went well with more humiliation being limited to having to kiss jake in truth or dare. that you could deal with. still giddy off of ni-ki’s skinship, your head had been in the cloud the entire time. the party had significantly calmed down and sunoo was ready to head home causing you to begin to look for mina and sunghoon. sunghoon had been doing his own thing the whole party, and mina had left the smoking room a bit ago. giving your goodbyes to sunoo, jake, and jungwon, you made your way down the stairs feeling triumphant when you did in fact, not fall. you scoured the party only seeing sunghoon’s tall figure in the corner, no mina in sight. you pushed past people to make your over to him.
“uh, sorry to interrupt.” you said hesitantly as sunghoon and jay talked. sunghoon immediately turned to you,
“no worries, whats up.”
“I think I’m ready to go home if that’s okay.” sunghoon put his beer bottle in jay’s hands and he gleefully downed the rest for him.
“yeah sure, just go find mina and we’ll leave.” you nodded and moved to search the party once more. you were having far more trouble placing were mina was as the house was rather large and mina was quite a bit shorter then sunghoon. walking down a hallway, you got away from the music a bit and could think a bit clearer. the weed from earlier though still clouded you mind, so the sounds of moaning didn’t quite reach your ears before you turned another corner and your heart dropped. mina’s back was to you, but her long dark hair was the first thing you saw. the second? ni-ki’s piercing dark eyes. with one hand up her shirt and the other shoved under her skirt, his eyes snapped straight to yours with his mouth clearly occupied. you watched frozen as mina pressed herself further into him and he used a hand to shove her head in between his shoulder and neck. his eyes never leaving yours, you watched as he smirked devilishly and undid the only tie holding mina’s shirt up causing her to moan into him and her shirt to flutter to the ground. you could feel bile begin to rise up into your throat as you finally tore yourself away from the horrid sight and stumbled back the way you came. your breathing rapidly increased as you felt saliva fill your mouth and vomit fell on the wooden floor of the hallway, mina’s moans still bouncing along the walls. in daze, you began stumbling out of the party and ran into sunghoon waiting outside. he looked up from his phone and immediately cringed at your appearance.
“dude… what happened?” you swallowed dryly and wiped some of the bile from your mouth with hand as tears welled in your eyes.
“I uh, I don’t think mina’s coming.”
------------------------------ + -------------------------------
the thoughts were all consuming. you weren’t special. you were average like you’ve been your whole life. no one would give you the attention you wanted and no one would give you a second glance. mina walked into the dorm in the early hours of that morning, stopping by you and giselle’s shared room to poke her head in. she scoffed at your appearance, covers shoved to the end of the bed, the dress you had worn that night still on, and makeup smeared with bile still on your face. you knew cause you hadn’t been able to sleep. you just laid awake, staring at the wall as giselle’s snores broke apart your blank thoughts.
you’re not special
#19 for the ask game!
19. What headcanon do you always include in your stories?
Headcanons! I love them! I have a few. Some I explicitly include and others often (always?) inform my writing, even if they aren't mentioned on page. Here are a few favorites:
Jack Zimmermann is bi and demisexual. Full stop.
Suzanne and Coach Bittle aren't bad, homophobic parents. They are maybe a little clueless and awkward, but they want the best for Bitty and once he comes out to them they accept him. This is a little tangential, but I will always believe that that scene of Suzanne telling Bitty that she wants him to come home for the rest of the summer after he comes out to her would take place even if Bitty were straight and his partner were female. My read on her is that as the mother of an only child, she's terrified somebody is going to come along to take her son away from her. I think (and canon backs me up: see Coach and Jack reacting to the jam argument in Christmas in Madison) Coach is more awkward but ultimately more easy going, and ends up really being the voice of reason/ally Bitty (and Jack) need over the years when dealing with Suzanne. I've incorporated this into a few different fics.
Bitty can be his own worst enemy. He makes a lot of assumptions about how people perceive him and it often gets him in trouble (or, at the very least, causes unnecessary stress). This character trait is established in canon ("Jack hates me." "My parents will reject me if they know the truth about me.") and it's fun to play with it in fic.
Jack, in retirement, has a dad bod. Look, twenty-five-year-old professional athlete Jack Zimmermann, with abs that can grate cheese, is the subject of twenty-year-old Bitty's very detailed fantasies and exactly what he wants at that point in his life. But forty-something-retired Jack, who has nothing left to prove, is comfortable enough in his own skin to relax a little and has a body that reflects his life with Bitty (dessert every night). That Jack is the subject of forty-something-Bitty's very detailed fantasies and exactly what he wants at this point in their lives. He's the dad all the kids and pets want to cuddle with and is still strong enough to carry all the kids to bed at once. Still strong enough to carry Bitty to bed. It should be assumed that this softer Jack is the Jack that shows up in any fic I write in which he's no longer playing professional hockey, even if not explicitly stated. (Related: Bitty has a much harder time with getting older and frequently needs Jack's reassurance that he still finds him attractive. I think Bitty's logic about this is something like: "I know Jack loves me and finds me attractive BUT he didn't notice me that way until after I cut my hair and started eating protein and doing all the squats, so even though aging is inevitable, if I don't maintain that standard he's going to stop finding me attractive." See: what I wrote earlier about Bitty making a lot of unfounded assumptions about what others think of him.)
Jack's anxiety comes from Alicia. Look at Alicia's eyes in 24 Hour Celly. Those are Jack's anxiety eyes. (I know those links go to the whole comic not the exact panels but they're there, I promise.) I'm currently working on something that digs deeper into this headcanon.
Tater + Vanessa Channel 7 = 4 Eva. Why? It just feels right.
Oh, and one more. I know a lot of people headcanon Chowder as being from San Francisco proper but I have always headcanoned him as being from San Jose and growing up playing youth hockey with the club affiliated with the Sharks.
Thank you for this question! This is probably way more than you were asking for!
