i don't think we talk enough about the brilliance (from a storyline perspective) of the good/normal ending
like. earlier on in the game, solas tells you that in comparison to elgar'nan, he is someone who wins not through brute force but through clever tricks and manipulations and that when he wins, it's because he's right–a sentiment he echoes in the end, stating "you were not crushed by the power of the dread wolf. you were bested fairly by wits alone"
this is pride at its best, when solas believes himself to be the sole source of wisdom. and then rook does the complete unthinkable and double crosses the Lord of Tricksters. and so then solas is subjected to the same fate he once imposed upon those threatening the freedom of his people, at his own hands because he made rook into who they are and it's sheer insanity on so many levels because he finally gets a taste of his own medicine which comes at a brutal cost to him
and regardless of whether it's the good or the normal ending, his final worlds always focus on his godhood and rook's mortality:
you are a mortal! and i am a–
a god.
and the metamorphosis is complete. solas now has become what he states in-game he's always feared becoming: arrogance unchecked. and then rook does exactly what solas once did and in doing so, becomes the same rebel/trickster as him.
the dread wolf is dead. long live the dread wolf.

i keep getting sad in real life about bleach. how are you going to introduce god's silliest angel and then kill her. im literally the only person who cares about her even though shes the Creature. shes literally just a ouppy. she needs to be playing with squeaky toys. why am i so obsessed with minor characters who died years ago

So there's apparently a moderately popular Fight Club theory that Marla is also in the Narrator's head? Which goes well with my transfeminine love of Marla because it means the movie can be read as the Narrator as the egg body (hence the hollow vibe and lack of a name), Tyler as the false macho persona she adopts in an increasingly unhinged and ultimately vain attempt to double down on her externally imposed role, and Marla as her—that is, as an emerging image of who the Narrator really is.
AU where the final shot of the Narrator and Marla holding hands continues as they slowly merge together until only Marla is left

i think fandom has largely forgotten that it was scott and not stiles who began the show with the little red riding hood symbolism. he was the one attacked by the big bad wolf and subsequently turned.

What if Everyone Had a Normal Job and Just Played D&D Together on the Weekends AU
Hera is the panicked DM
Kepler (Aasimar Oath of Conquest Paladin) and Jacobi (Halfling Artillerist Artificer) are having a macho pissing contest
Maxwell (Elven School of Enchantment Wizard) and Lovelace (Tiefling Mastermind Rogue) are actually strategizing and putting a plan together
Hilbert (Lizardfolk Knowledge Domain Cleric) and Eiffel (College of Eloquence Bard) are having a rules debate that will be absolutely meaningless in 2 turns
and Minkowski (Dwarven Battlemaster Fighter) is not so patiently waiting for her turn

Overnight Fright
Tumblr media
The term "wolf" has a connotation that does not fit here. Archie and Reggie are not acting with lecherous designs in this instance, by scaring them in pretending to be wolves-- thus the change. Also the problem of referring in the plural -- two names -- to the singular -- "wolf".
Tumblr media
Animals are everywhere, even at a not woodsy state park. Birds. Squirrels. So specification in post, "Wild" animals. And I guess they decided the park ranger should be speaking more informerly -- no need for full sentences.

The Wolf's Mantle Chapter 7
Tumblr media
Chapter 7 || ao3
Chapter Summary/Preview:
“But that hits the highlights. I need help. I need… another me. The Evanuris think I’m dead, and they have the upper-hand because Minrathous is under their thumb. I mean to prove otherwise. We attack on multiple fronts and kick their legs out from under them.”
Aerin considers her for a long moment. “You’ve got one of them in your head, right? Fen’Harel himself.”
Elowyn stilled. “Something like that. He’s tucked away in the Fade, the very same prison that Ghilan’nain and Elgar’nan escaped from.”
“And how can we know that you haven’t been compromised? That the Dread Wolf isn’t pulling your strings?” she asked, straightening in her chair. Bellara let out a soft gasp, horror quickly being replaced by anger.
“Aerin! You—”
Elowyn held up a hand to silence her and shook her head. “You can’t.”
“That’s really why you need me, isn’t it?” The Veil Jumper asked, chewing on her bottom lip, gray eyes narrowing. “You don’t trust your judgment anymore.”
Work Summary: Rook is captured by Elgar'nan. For the crime of taking on the Dread Wolf’s mantle, now she must wear it for all to see. Rating: Explicit Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings. Ships: Solas/Rook, Rook & Lucanis Dellamorte Tags: Act 1 spoilers, Aftermath of Torture, Mind Control, Branding, Forced Bonding, Vallaslin (Dragon Age), Whump, Hurt/Comfort, Eventual Comfort, Eventual Smut, Attempted Murder, Other Additional Tags to Be Added

infinitely funny that solas is this powerful god that was worshipped for centuries albeit against his will and commanded spirits and legions of ancient elves in a rebellion
is the same solas who allowed himself to be bullied non stop by inquisition companions who had no idea what he was. imagine being revered for millennia and then suddenly sera is blowing raspberries anytime he speaks, varric’s calling him “chuckles” after his feared mantle of the dread wolf, being subjected to inappropriate spirit sex questions and the skyhold joke that he doesnt like tea, which he deliberately plays into purely for the sake of everyone’s amusement. he was completely content to be the butt of the joke.
the relief from being seen as a god-general of rebellion and lies to an unwashed apostate hobo ... being in the inquisition truly must’ve been the best year of his life

It occurred to me that the first name a new fan will hear for Solas is, well, 'Solas', his very first name, then they'll be told he's an elven god, but the second name that they'll hear is Chuckles.
A new fan is going to be wondering why the bad guy has a cute nickname.
In all these years waiting, I had no idea how they were going to humanize Solas to a new audience. I genuinely thought that they were not even going to try to humanize him to a new audience because people, especially people with no history, they simply do. Not. Care. About villainous-looking characters doing villainous-looking rituals.
But they DID it.
It didn’t even take that long. And they did it with a few techniques working together, but especially this one:
They made Solas’ problem your problem, and they made you make his exact same “mistake.”
I feel the tide of sentiment toward Solas has already changed. How could people be mad at Solas when the player you control decided to help, and by helping, they ruined things? He had plans that might have worked, and they might not have been nearly as bad, without you. So now people will look very silly about complaining about him, especially when he STILL has not told us his real motivation for starting in the first place.
I just can’t believe it. I knew that the main character of DA4 would have to take on Solas’ very valid responsibilities and worries that he STILL has not explained to us (a pet theory of mine was that it was called “Dreadwolf” for so long because DA4 is the story of you taking on Solas’ mantle and his horrible title and his horrible responsibilities and having to finish things for him.)
but I pictured that transfer would happen after a 50% boss fight with Solas. I think this may still happen, but now they’ve set it up very clearly from the very start. And I wasn’t expecting it. I think any newcomer would experience that conversation and be like “this guy seems reallly reasonable and noble in a way I wasn’t expecting”
gosh I’m so excited. The arc that this sets up even for new players!!! I thought new characters wouldn’t be able to enjoy Solas in the same way or see him like I do, but I underestimated Weekes’ writing.
