FOP: A New Wish e13-16
well i thought this was supposed to be the end, but the wiki now says there's a 17th episode??? hm.....
Episode 13: Stanky Danky
Talking Trash? Wasn’t that an episode. And haven’t we done 2 episodes about garage already? The magical garage ep where Big Daddy was introduced, and an ep where the woodland critters were made to clean up? I mean garbage is a standard topic for children cartoons…and Hazel is set in an urban setting so the garbage problem is different compared to suburbia
Dale Dimmadome!! That’s not Robbie though wiki…anyways, wow Dale I think you’ve outdone your dad for money grubbing. No wonder Dev is the way he is. Good job story!
Again the normal citizens are unfazed by magical creatures
Hey Dev does know Hazel’s name!
2d Dale. Ffft Dimmazon. Can’t remember if that’s been established already but lol
Real live action footage?? O.o??
But ok you know standard kid show plot but it wasn’t bad. I felt it could’ve done more to promote recycling instead of “just don’t buy things” but hey. Also returning character in Dale with very modern development (Doug was an old oil tycoon so Dale being Elon Musk makes perfect sense).
Episode 14: Peace of Pizza
Wait now we’re doing mobsters? The garbage ep was the previous one lol
I love the random kid names at the bottom of the list
Space peas…to convince Dev to be nice…APRIL FOOL??? Ah uh ahem anyways, so…are we VeggieTales/Care Bears/Space Chicken Brothers this
What kind of a child hates pizza btw? I get that’s why this is so wild, but really Dev why do you hate pizza? You’d think getting rewarded for doing the bare minimum would be his jam. It it just the fact he doesn’t want to share?
Hostage negotiations??? Dawwwww Dev does just want his father’s love and affection
Oh Dev is lactose intolerant that’s why he hates pizza….pffft lame. Also why don’t you know about the no dairy pizza, you’re rich! Does Dale not believe in your lactose intolerance?
2d Hazel and Dev!
Ok so it was a fun silly premise that gave a lot of development to a secondary character. Good job.
Episode 15: A New Dev-Elopment
And looks like Dev is going to continue getting development here too. Ok, show me what you got
Dimmadelphia is a giant square…and they have a water park
Hah! inadvertently making a wish that gets you stuck together for the plot. You go girl beating the boy at the game XD
Dawww they’re getting along, Dev acting like a normal kid is good. And haha he admitted he knows her name. Wait his name is actually Devon, cool
Awww Dale ruining the fun by wanting to throw money around. But Crimson Chin poster!! But also dawwww don’t slip backwards Dev you can be a nice boy if you want to be :(
Dawww he’s apologizing. He can learn. And even after ruining her fantasies he then played into them. Good character arc!
So is Dev gonna be a friend now?
Hey credits do say that adult Timmy IS Timmy O.o!!!! What timeline IS this???
Ahem anywhos, very good episode. Super on the character development, very low magic (technically almost none really). So great job.
Episode 16: Cookie's Court
This one is a follow up/sequel to a previous episode huh? Took the original series forever to do that, so it’s nice to see it happening much sooner here. Plus I feel this series is a tad more linear
Another space adventurer wish? Didn’t the previous episode open this way? Yeah they even point out this is a sequel, ok
Hey there’s a photo of Poof in the Cosmos house. So…that narrows which timeline this is…
Nobody likes a clip show either, which that montage isn’t really so…you win I guess
A con for folktales and mythical stuff? Is Crocker a guest speaker?
Cosmo nearly blowing their cover is typical. But a court show parody? Haven’t we done that before? And are kids really going to get that?
Another godkid being a lawyer. Love it
Why would Hazel get a reassignment for a reveal? Any other time a reveal meant removal and memory wipe.
Nice to see Fairy World Prison again.
But so yeah…kind of a weak episode. I get it we’re developing a long running villain I guess, but…meh just doesn’t do it for me. Which is again fine, I’m not the target demographic and it doesn’t make it bad.
So I’m glad that there’s more still to come…at some point…here’s hoping New Wish doesn’t follow its predecessors and take multiple years to release 1 season X.x but overall I say good job to the team on this; you seem to know what you’re doing and I look forward to more.

More proof that Villains wiki is filled with BS misinformation salads:
Verosika Mayday is considered a villain, even though she’s just a heartbroken ex girlfriend that is using anger and disrespect to get back at her crappy ex boyfriend:
Gavin Reed who is just an asshole in Detroit Become Human. Not much else to say other than being mean ≠ evil: https://villains.fandom.com/wiki/Gavin_Reed
Then there’s also Daniel for some reason:
This one triggered me the most. North. Really? NORTH?! How?!: https://villains.fandom.com/wiki/North_(Detroit:_Become_Human)
And lastly from Detroit Become Human, Markus, even though the chaotic and violent choices you make as Markus, he is not evil, and he doesn’t go after innocent people or kill/abuse children like Todd does: https://villains.fandom.com/wiki/Markus_(Detroit:_Become_Human)
Vergil is on here because of the “child abuse” crime listed. Like bro, that is a one hell of a stretch. If that wasn’t added his villains wiki page would’ve been fine because him being on Villains wiki fits him: https://villains.fandom.com/wiki/Vergil_(Devil_May_Cry)
Literally any page with zombies but I’m using Resident Evil as one example. Typical traditional Zombies do not have any semblance of humanity left in them as they are the literal walking dead: https://villains.fandom.com/wiki/Zombies_(Resident_Evil)
I would also include the fact that that Ed from Street Fighter is on Villains wiki, but I already mentioned that before.
In conclusion, do not use Villains wiki when doing research or doing a character analysis. In fact, I’d be cautious about ANY wiki pages because people with strong biases that love spreading misinformation can and will edit pages so that they felt like they won a petty internet argument.
So I guess to be labeled a villain, you can be a bitter heartbroken ex, a brash potty mouthed person, an asshole, a zombie, or just a victim fighting back against humanity, lol.

✨Rules✨
- This is a y/n request blog mostly for non-she/her pronouns. I WILL make the exception for lesbian ships using a she/her y/n character but this blog was originally made to help with the gap in other pronouns I see a lot of in this genre.
-YES you CAN request neopronouns. This was mostly made cause I’m a dude who’s kinda frustrated with how much self insert media (this goes beyond fics to things like asmr n shit) primarily cater to she/her pronouns BUT I am also very happy to extend this to anyone of any pronouns who feel the same way (this, again, includes any she/hers who would like more lesbian content as well)
-I can write many things and many characters! I will NOT do something I don’t know anything about, however. I don’t feel comfortable doing the whole “reading the wiki just enough to do a request” thing ik a lot of ppl do so like yk the worst I can say is no lol
Here is the current Fandom List!
-You can be specific with y/ns personality but it’s not required. If you aren’t specific I’m just gonna write what I want lol. But you ARE REQUIRED to give me a specific prompt it’s doesn’t have to be mega detailed just give me something to go off of
-I can do either an actual fic (which probably won’t be mega long just something short n sweet for each prompt) OR a headcanon list thing. Just specify what you want! If you don’t I’ll default to whichever I think fits
-DO NOT send me asks of the same thing over and over again! If I don’t do ur fic there could be LITERALLY any reasons for it. Maybe I don’t know the fandom (tho I’ll try to notate that in an ask response), or maybe I just don’t wanna do it, or even I just haven’t gotten to it yet! If you spam me I will block you. I do have a life and my own writing outside of this this is just for fun and when I need to throw myself into something short and simple :]
-All fics will be posted on AO3, if you want it gift tagged to your AO3 account please provide me with the account name so I may do so otherwise I will default to your tumblr if you’re off anon o7

hearthome posting about Skag Domestication & Imported Pets.
Pandora houses (a lot of) predator-class creatures, super-sized insectoid-arachnids, and various megafauna. pretty much all of which are extremely territorial to the point of people openly describing the wildlife as “more than happy to attack you.” (hell, even the plants can be hostile.)
skags are one such creature; kind of a fucked up reptile-dog with a vertical, bisected mouth. they’ll eat genuinely anything, but whatever they cannot digest is regurgitated. (they also eat and defecate out of the same hole. i.e. their mouth. something something, circular/looping digestive tract.) they’re pack animals, similar in hierarchy structure to wolves or hyenas. They communally raise their young, and sometimes split off from their family pack when they’re old enough to mate.
Tumblr media
aren't they cute? 💖
within the games, they serve as early, non-human enemy fodder, with stronger variants as you progress. throughout the series, there’s been several instances of clearly domesticated skags. Scrappy, in BL1. Dukino, Willy, and Ol' Pukey, in BL2, and Benjamin Blue in BL:TPS. (there was one or two in BL3, owned by Tiny Tina, but the wiki has yet to list them by name, and I don’t feel like traipsing through the game itself to find out.) this also counts for skags that are used as mounts, in place of a horse-like animal.
so you might be wondering: “Steven! Why in the everliving Hell would anyone want to even get close to these animals, let alone domesticate them?” or maybe not, idk-
to which i answer, uhhHhh, humans will packbond with anything lol
a lot of skags are used for protection, since they're tougher than dogs, armored, and some even have elemental affinities! there's not really any dedicated "domestic skag" breeding programs, as most pet skags are taken from the wild & hand-raised at a very young age.
which got me thinking: Pandora (as well as the border planets in general) visually lacks any kind of common domesticated pets. cats and dogs alike are referenced enough, but are never shown in any of the games. one of Brick’s dogs is shown via a flashback, but only illustrated. there’s no in-game models of cats, dogs, or hell, even birds (aside from Bloodwing, but she’s an alien bird so it doesn’t count).
and you’d think, for a planet teaming with humans that came from other settled planets... that we’d see at least some pets they brought over. right?
in-game, nah. but they clearly Exist on Pandora & her moon, Elpis, and arguably on any other planet in the border worlds, thanks to characters referencing them: Handsome Jack had a cat (or two), several characters mention their love or distaste for cats, Brick as a whole owned two/three separate dogs (that were unfortunately killed, and who’s paws he wears in remembrance), and that’s just stuff off the top of my head!
so like. where are the cats? where are the dogs?
they’re part of the world, but not important enough to the story to be shown in-game. but they are There, and there's a pretty sizeable stray population on Pandora alone; mostly centralized in settlements and cities. in the wild it's generally kept down by all the local fauna. you'll see plenty of "proper" pet cats, dogs, and other pets in corporate-funded settlements and big cities.
metatextuality, they were most likely out of the budget. or it’s possible the writers were like “this would be a good running joke, where we mention earth pets/animals but never have any show up (except in One inspirational poster that, in-universe, might just be a drawn illustration).”
but that's honestly just a guess on my part lol

Which OC can lift Thor’s hammer ?
Thanks for the ask! Tbh I‘m not sure if anyone truly could? The one with the best chances might be Violet. Though at the current point in time, it’s more of a "Captain America lifting it slightly"- moment. Red might’ve been fully able in the past, but not anymore. And it definitely ain’t any of the others lol
Also here’s a mythology fun fact as well as reasonings/rambles:
Mythology fun fact! That whole worthiness Spiel most people think about when talking about Thor‘s hammer isn’t actually a thing in the stories, instead it can be wielded by anyone but it’s just so fully packed with calamity-juice it‘d instantly disintegrate anyone who‘s not as op (even within mythology canon) as Thor is
As for why those two oc’s:
Violet might have a "Captain America lifting it slightly"- moment, due to having some traits that check out, but aren’t fully there yet, and might actually fully lift it at the climax of/post-[character arc I‘ll totally write someday that’s currently smth along the lines of growing into the duties needed to do but without conforming to the shackles that were attached to it, and being more than just a means to an end]. But the problem is that the "right“ thing to do might not always be the ideal one, and there’s enough situations that just don’t have any, the greater good isn’t always the greatest good, which might lead to being unworthy again.
Meanwhile Red‘s backstory is being the paragon hero trope, which basically fits perfectly, but her present story‘s the struggle from everyone else only seeing her as said trope, and not seeing or wanting the person behind it. Causing a conflict between wanting to be worth their faith, but also hating what it means, leading Red to see herself as unworthy of that faith a bit. So, despite seemingly being the obvious choice, I don’t think she’d actually be able to properly lift it, due to that doubt. Should that inner conflict get resolved, then totally, though.
Mage, Deniz and Yel ain’t gonna happen. Yel runs away from problems (literally), Deniz is very much a "you reap what you sow“ type of person who also puts his own survival first, and Mage is prone to backstabbing and angry breakdowns when cornered. The first and latter‘s also got at least a bit of a drive to protect things deemed important to him despite them, but absolutely not enough to overshadow the other things in any way. With Deniz, there’s not even a despite. Putting himself in total danger just to save his necklace and miscalculated, completely getting f-ed? Should’ve just planned better, that’s absolutely on him.
That being said I do have 2 deities on the sidelines (who’re in desperate need of a redesign lol) So there’s always the mythological version to drop back to. But for the regular Marvel version…what even makes someone able to lift that hammer? It sure as heck isn’t personality since Thor had no problem being a prick before the first movie and Fortnithor was still deemed worthy too, plus for the comics there‘s 298 worthy people listed on the marvel wiki and a lot of them are either alternative Thors, regular people, straight up evil, otherwise questionable, and like 7 Lokis? Closest thing to an actual answer was "striving to be and doing good for others, not your own glory“ and "being worth of all the faith others put in you“ (which doesn’t check out with anything else, but when was the last time continuity ever really mattered in comics XD). It’s that second one that drove a bit of the choices above.

This is already on Part 1, but still for those who may not have read it!
This might have been the best prompt ever and I spent about 2-3 hrs coming up with this list, it's over 30 people and I want to fit everyone in the tags so this is the 2nd part lol
So I present to you
Tokyo Revenger Characters and what type of Disney's Tinkerbell Fairy they would be! Pt. 2
Pt. 1
Before we start I'm just going to layout the fairy types, and these are all based from the Tinkerbell wiki; Tinkers - They are the crafty ones in the bunch always crafting and creating something, in this case it would also extend to planning as not everyone in TR is creating something but a lot are crafty and make stuff happen Garden - Harvest food, nurtures plants and make sure the bugs are good, they are also very fashionable and care a lot for appearances and looks. Animal - Takes cares of the animals and tends to their needs, can talk with animals and kind of "read their thoughts Water - Can manipulate water and bend it towards their will, they're also sweet, sympathetic, and helpful Light - Responsible for keeping Pixie Hollow aglow and bright after sundown, light fairies also loves to train fireflies to work as lanterns and torches. One of their special abilities is to create and manipulate rainbows, they can also manipulate the sun’s rays Fast Flying - They control the wind to carry the pollen in the spring, make breezes in summer, and remove the leaves in the wind in autumn, they’re insanely fast (kinda given in the name tho) fun loving and kinda chaotic Dust Keeper - Fairies who process and ration out Pixie Dust to other non-dust fairies. This is an extremely important job because without Pixie Dust, fairies couldn't fly. Due to the delicate nature of their work, dust-keeper fairies cannot sneeze on the job. Dust fairies are known to attend every Arrival by sprinkling Pixie dust on a broken piece of laughter, changing it into a new fairy or sparrowman. Kinda the backbone of Pixie Hollows because what teh fairies without their Pixie Dust tbh? Almost nothing Scout - protectors of Pixie Hollow from different kinds of danger such as dangerous predators like hawks and wasps
Tenjiku
Izana - Scout Fairy they are the defenders of the hollow and the leader of every gang and group is the one that’s responsible for them and amongst the first to defend their gang
Kakucho - Dust keepers are insanely responsible and are kinda the backbone of pixie hollow and keep everyone together he really did try and keep everyone together, especially Izana he did his best
Muto - Scout Fairy, he goes far to protect his people, even infiltrating another gang
Hanma - Fast Flying Fairy, has the potential to be a scout Fairy but they’re all about protecting the group and Hamna does shit for fun and doesn’t care for others
Kisaki - Tinker Fairy, as said before tinker fairies think so Kisaki and his big brains and plans are def a Tinker Fairy
Ran - Garden Fairy they care about their appearances and looks of things and such a lot which is his vibe
Rindou - Light Fairy, he doesn’t have specific characteristics to put him anywhere but I’m thinking he could use his lights for parties and such
Mochizuki - Scout Fairy I think as a Heavenly King and kinda one of the leaders of Tenjiku he’s responsible for a lot, especially the defense of the group
Shion - Scout Fairy Mans always fighting and he was also the leader of the Black Dragons at some point sooooo
Black Dragons
Taiju - Scout Fairy they are the defenders of the hollow and the leader of every gang and group is the one that’s responsible for them and amongst the first to defend their gang
Koko - Tinker he thinks up stuff that works really well
Inui - Tinker he’s good with his hands and does work with Draken at his shop in a timeline
Yuzuha - Also a scout, she fought hard to keep her little brother and things she cared about safe
Black Dragons Gen 1
Shinichiro - Dust keeper,  dust keepers are insanely responsible and are kinda the backbone of pixie hollow and keep everyone together, he really could’ve been a scout but he’s truly the reason why everyone and everything stayed together even after his death
Wakasa - Scout Fairy, he cares a lot and puts his all in it to defend his gang, his people and cared ones
Benkei - a Scout fairy just like Waka! He cares a lot and puts his all in it to defend his gang, his people and cared ones
Takeomi - Fast Flying Fairy, Idk what for him either but he’s worse than Makoto and always up to something more
Others
Hinata - Dust Keeper Fairy, if Hina didn’t die then the whole manga wouldn’t have a start tbh, she’s the backbone, she’s the original reason for everything and really the glue that holds Takemichi together until he realizes the next problem was Mikey
Akane - She’s a Dust Keeper Fairy, she kept Koko and Inui together, and I just get that vibes from her for some reason
Naoto - Tinker mans always doing something, whether that’s the police cases and bringing down toman or his occult stuff in the final timeline
Senju -  Scout Fairy they are the defenders of the hollow and the leader of every gang and group is the one that’s responsible for them and amongst the first to defend their gang, she’s 100% very protective and caring of her gang
South -  Scout Fairy -This man can literally be nothing else but this or a Fast Flying Fairy cause lmaoooo, continuing with the rest of the monologue- they are the defenders of the hollow and the leader of every gang and group is the one that’s responsible for them and amongst the first to defend their gang
I wanted to do Luna and Mana but idk what they would be as there’s not much info on them enough to gauge them
Thanks for being even a bit interested in this if you care, I'm pretty sure I've gone insane.
already asked this in a discord server but i feel like no one would respond SO summoning tokrev fans who also for whatever reason like the tinkerbell disney films??? what fairies would the characters be? i can only think of takemichi as a tinker fairy because that’s the easiest 😖
specifically i wanna know if inui would be a light fairy or a tinker fairy? also what fairy would koko be?? i was thinking winter because my original idea for inui was to be a light fairy so i wanted them to match but hhh i dont know anymore

The Secret Saturdays Iceberg
Original iceberg here.
Jay Stephens’ answers on the Toonzone Forums here, his Insta here, blogspot here. List of comics here.
THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS!
“I watched a couple episodes while it was still airing”
What most people know about Secret Saturdays from having seen it a couple times when it was on. It’s a children’s cartoon.
Doc and Drew have an exchange that goes “when have I ever done anything rash or irresponsible?” “I keep a list. It’s alphabetized,” which has plagued incorrect quotes blogs for years. Many people know the quote without knowing the show it’s from.
“I watched it through to the end”
This tier is about stuff you know about how hard the show goes once you watch it through the first time.
All cryptids in the show are based on real-life cryptids, mythological creatures, or prehistoric animals: true with a single-digit number of exceptions. The TSS wiki has done a really good job of cataloguing them.
Children die on-screen: both Zak Monday AND Zak Saturday die on-screen. It’s great.
Sneople: nagas.
Clone: Francis is a fucking clone! Holy shit!
Fisk has actual dialogue: This one actually belongs in the “I followed Jay Stephens” tier, as he has revealed that Fisk is written actual lines in the script, which are then translated to “Fisk-speak” by the voice actor.
Cheechoo is Inuit / Beeman is autistic / It’s the glasses: Cheechoo wears traditional inuit sunglasses, and also references the far north of Canada as being his “ancestral home” and having grown up there.
Tumblr media
Beeman, meanwhile, has a hard time picking up on social cues (”he’s a little rude to everybody,” Jay once said on the Toonzone forums, confirming that Beeman isn’t acting like that because he dislikes Zak or anything -- in fact, he acts the same way even when he’s actively trying to bond with Zak over his fake UFO footage), has a really good time watching hours of (what most consider boring) footage related to his particular interest, and his glasses are probably tinted pink to deal with photosensitivity, a common symptom.
Tumblr media
Wadi is Bedouin: The Bedouin are nomadic Arab tribes that live in the desert. So, like. Yeah.
Last will and testament of a guy who drowned: Zak and Doyle find the titular will in the episode where a lake is trying to hunt and kill them, left behind by someone that the lake has previously hunted and killed.
DNA brothers: Do you guys remember the episode where Zak, Fisk, and Komodo all get spliced together? Was that fucked up or what
Forgot to put this one on there but do you guys remember when Argost dressed up in an SS uniform look-alike to taunt the Saturdays in Once More the Nightmare Factory? Incredible.
“I read some character analyses”
This tier is all about realizing the full implications of the stuff they show in this children’s cartoon where they can’t say the word “kill.”
Serial killer that keeps trophies: I think Van Rook literally expresses disgust over how Argost kept trophies during his yeti era. Incidentally, this means Van Rook has ALSO killed multiple people, since at least he doesn’t keep trophies, lol.
Doyle has probably killed people and is definitely a felon: Doyle is cut short before he can elaborate on how many places he has a criminal record; he’s definitely stolen priceless cultural artifacts and other goods well above the felony limit, he has a story he doesn’t give Zak the full details of because “then things get messy. Let’s just say the bird and I took care of it.” Not to mention how many times Zak’s parents stress to him that Doyle has lived a dirty life, and he’s done many bad, bad things. Doyle has killed people you can’t change my mind.
Doc was Drew’s rebound romance: Drew dated Van Rook in college, presumably broke up with him when she realized he was studying archaeology so that he could steal artifacts to sell, and later wound up with Doc. She’s in her 30′s-or-so according to Jay (while Doc is in his 40′s-or-so) and her kid is 11 at the start of the story. She’s a “trained archaeologist,” meaning she’s probably got a PhD after at least 5, 6 years of college (she's a genius, so I wouldn't be surprised if she got it sooner than the usual 8 years We know she's an archaeologist from the Field Guide). So there’s a reasonable buffer of a few years between her dating Van Rook and her meeting Doc while mountain-climbing (Doc mentions this is how they met in the blue tiger episode), so he’s not necessarily her rebound romance exactly, but it’s funnier to word it that way.
Doc really thought Munya killed his family: In Once More the Nightmare Factory, when Doc reaches Munya after being separated by his family, Munya takes the tokens with Doc’s family’s faces on them and throws them in the trash to taunt him. Doc proceeds to go berserk and kick Munya’s ass (and nearly choke that bitch Argost out), while screaming that Argost took “everything” from him. So they can’t, like, have Doc actually SAY “you killed my family, you bitch!” but that is definitely what he was thinking. I also want to note here that part of Doc’s specific baggage throughout the episode is that he blames himself for the 43 secret scientists that died the first time they tried to assault Weird World - people who were his colleagues, if not his friends - so just keep that in mind when Doyle comes in later to rub in Doc’s face how easy it is to break in.
On that note, RIP the 43 secret scientists that died the first time they tried to assault Weird World.
The nagas were really gonna let them die: In the Legion of Garuda, Zak tricks the nagas into letting him into their sanctum by having his parents fight the Secret Scientists above the river, while pretending to the nagas that he’s decided to switch sides because the humans won’t stop coming after him. The nagas let him in and promise to help his family, but once Zak is out of earshot, Rani Nagi tells her guards to leave Zaks’ parents to their fate. “Give the boy a tragedy to avenge.” Bruh.
RIP Von Finster: RIP to the scorpion man, who was definitely killed after Argost caught him to silence him since he knew things about Argost’s past. This is what they meant when they said that people who know things about Argost were “disappearing,” and why Von Finster was so scared.
RIP Mizuki’s body: why does Mizuki in hibagon’s body cry out in rage when he sees his human body crushed under the rubble? Because that body is actually a corpse, man! On that note, RIP Ulraj’s dad, forgot about that one.
RIP xing-xing: so apparently the xing-xing shows up in War of the Cryptids so I messed up on this one. Just replace it with Ulraj’s dad.
RIP Dr. Basil: Yeah Doc’s father figure is dead. Old age probably, but also maybe he was killed as retaliation for scrapping the genetic human/cryptid testing research.
Argost’s body count is so high holy shit: 43 secret scientists, Ulraj’s dad, Von Finster, Drew & Doyle’s parents, Zak Monday, and Zak Saturday - and that’s just the deaths we KNOW ABOUT!
Forgot to put this in there but damn the Legion of Garuda guy was seriously gonna kill Zak, like holy shit. So many people want this 11-12 year old boy dead
“I followed Jay Stephens”
This tier is all fun Word of God stuff if you happened to follow Jay Stephens while he was posting on the Toonzone forums while the show was running, from his old blogspot, or while he’s talking to people on instagram. I have a minor and not exhaustive collection of such postings here.
Smoke mirror is NOT a mirror universe / It’s just a shittier universe: According to Jay himself on the Toonzone forums, and in line with actual Aztec mythology, the Smoke Mirror world is NOT a mirror universe. Aztec cosmology states that the world has ended and been remade 4 times, each stint being represented by a different god as the sun, and we're currently on our fifth sun. "The Smoking Mirror" is an epithet used to refer to Tetzcatlipoca (whose temple the Smoke Mirror was found in), who had the dubious honor of being the first sun, and his sun was black and only shed half as much light as our current one, possibly related to how he was missing a leg. Thus, the Smoke Mirror is not a portal to a mirror dimension - the fandom just kind of assumed it was because that's the common trope, but Jay has explicitly said that it isn't one. Rather, the Smoke Mirror is a portal a world inspired by Tetzcatlipoca's sun, a darker and twisted world where everything is generally much worse. This is further enforced by the fact that the Wii/DS/PS2 game is literally about this myth, as the game is called “Beasts of the Fifth Sun.”
Screwed by the network: The show barely ever had reruns shown and was constantly having its timeslot shafted by sportsball. It was insanely hard to keep up with the show as new episodes came out and even harder to catch up on missed episodes, which was death for a show with such tight continuity. On top of that, season 2 was only ten episodes, which is NOT standard (season 1 had 26 episodes and a half-season would be 13), which means they had to cut more than half of season 2′s contents. You can really feel how rushed it is in the last three episodes.
Dodo???:
The executives at Discovery Kids had spent many hours telling me that my original Tutenstein designs were "too cute" and "too Casper", so, stubborn jerk that I am, I made sure to make this one even cuter. For inspiration, I went over my old Floyd Gottfredson Mickey Mouse comics... particularly the Seven Ghosts and Phantom Blot stuff... excellent, classic work. My idea was to update the 'funny animal mystery trio' by incorporating my love of Cryptozoology into the pitch. It went a little like this:"CRYPTIDS features a crack team of globe trotting cryptozoologists uniquely qualified for the job because they themselves were once cryptids! OKAPI, KOMODO, and MEGAMOUTH, along with their nine-year-old human mascot, FRANCIS, serve as a sort of anti-detective team. Scooting across land, sea, and air in their fantastic CAMPERCOPTER, their never-ending goal is to preserve the mystery of the world’s strangest creatures before they are exposed by humans… or destroyed by the Cryptids' nemesis, MONSIEUR DODO."I pitched it to a bunch of studios and got some interest, but, ultimately this incarnation went nowhere. Nobody 'got' the design, commenting that it looked like a kiddie show but read edgier. When I brought up the classic Floyd Gottfredson Micky Mouse adventure comics, I got blank stares. Not even Walt Disney Television Animation knew who or what I was talking about. Sigh... back to the drawing board.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Doc’s design was based on Harry Belafonte: Said on Jay’s Insta.
Doc and Drew canonically straight but everyone else is open season: Said on Jay’s Insta. FWIW Doyle gives me really strong bisexual energy.
Viral Marketing: The show’s initial ads were found footage-style short videos of horrific puppets of the show’s cryptid protagonists. I think they’re still up on youtube.
List of “hundreds” of creatures compiled for the show: Said on Jay’s Blogspot.
I forgot to mention this one, but Jay Stephens says that in-universe, cryptids aren’t just “creatures unproven to science,” but rather, “creatures that share a common, mystical bond.” It’s never said in-universe but I figured I’d let you guys know that this is what sets cryptids apart from regular animals.
Can’t “stay on the side of good” if show didn’t end how it ended: This is referring to how, according to Jay on the Toonzone forums, Zak losing his powers was the only way for him to firmly stay on the side of good. This is a very contentious opinion in the fanbase, but honestly, I kind of get it. By the end of the show, Zak has enough power to destroy human civilization within a week, anytime he feels like it, just by thinking about it. And he’s 13 years old. Humanity wouldn’t survive if he had, like, an emo phase when he turned 16. As long as he has that kind of unchecked power, there’s ALWAYS going to be doubt as to whether or not it’s safe to let him wander around, there’s ALWAYS going to be people who either want him dead for the good of mankind or want to use and manipulate him to their own ends, and - as we see in Return of Tsul’Kalu - he’s not immune to despair, as he literally says “if even the good cryptids think I’m destined for evil, I don’t know why I should even fight it anymore.” Even assuming Zak is incorruptibly “good” (which, again, we have evidence that he isn’t), at some point he’s going to have to start thinking about whether it’s his responsibility to police humanity. If people are illegally burning down the rainforests, and the government won’t do anything, wouldn’t Zak be morally obligated to do something extrajudicial about that? Where does that slippery slope end? So, like, honestly, I kind of agree. The only way for him to firmly stay on the side of good is for him to lose his incredible power, because you know what they say about absolute power.
“I have done a lot of research into the show”
This tier is about doing a bit of extraneous googling into tidbits that are brought up in the show. The cryptids all being based on real things is pretty common knowledge, but there’s so much more in this show that’s based on real stuff than that.
Drew’s fire sword is Manjushri’s khadga: Drew’s fire sword is based on the blade (khadga is the specific type of sword) that the bodhisattva Manjushri wields. It symbolizes wisdom, which cuts through duality and ignorance. And there are ones from Tibet (where Drew was raised) that look JUST LIKE the one in the show.
Tumblr media
Tetzcatlipoca’s epithet was “The Smoking Mirror”: Most of this is covered in the previous section, but did you know that Tetzcatlipoca was considered the rival to Quetzalcoatl? This is especially interesting given that Quetzalcoatl is the feathered serpent, and Kur was believed to be a serpentine dragon (more on that later). I will also mention that Tetzcatlipoca transformed into a jaguar after Quetzalcoatl struck down his stint as sun, by the way. For fanart purposes, you know.
Garuda is a mythological Hindu figure: Garuda is a demigod in Hindu mythology that is depicted either as a giant bird resembling a kite (sea-eagle), or a bird furry. There’s a myth where he eats nagas. This is why the Legion of Garuda is named after him, and why the wizard guy summons a giant eagle illusion to scare off the nagas.
Kumari Kandam, Lemuria, Shangri-La Real: Kumari Kandam and Lemuria are two names for the same proposed (and disproven) sunken land bridge between the Indian subcontinent and Madagascar, which would’ve explained how monkeys got to Madagascar and became lemurs (hence the name). Due to some Hippie New Age Bull Shit, the survivors of Lemuria (often interchangeably used with Atlantis) moved to the Mt. Shasta region of California, where myths and legends of “lemurians” persist to this day. Shangri-La (the Lemurian homeland in the show) is unrelated to the two and is instead a fictional earthly paradise located in the Himalayas.
Dead Sea Scrolls reference: The scroll Wadi finds is definitely a reference to the Dead Sea Scrolls. Related to that,
Methuselah Tree Real: In real life, the methuselah tree is the oldest tree in the world, and - like in the show - its location is a carefully guarded secret. Not because it’s the font of all water in the world (a clear reference to the Norse myth of the World Tree and possibly a reference to the Zamzam Well), but to avoid vandalism, as we all know what people are like.
Inaccessible Island Real: Argost briefly mentions that they’re on Inaccessible Island before he steals Zak Monday’s powers. This is a real, shitty little island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
Tomb of Kur Real: The Official Cryptid Field Guide lists the Tomb of Kur as the “Kohker Archaeological Site.” This is a real place, and is a temple dedicated to Shiva.
Library at Alexandria Real: The Library at Alexandria was a massive collection of books - every book brought into port at Alexandria would be copied, the copy stored in the library, and the original returned to its owner. Such a massive collection... all burned down. Tragic.
Naga fireball phenomenon Real: There’s a phenomenon that happens along the Mekong River where fireballs regularly erupt. The family goes looking for the naga using this phenomenon in the season 2 premier.
Mines set on fire that stay on fire for years Real: The mine that’s on fire in the bunyip episode is probably a reference to Burning Mountain, a mountain in Australia that has a fire under it that’s been burning for 6000 years. There’s many other such long-lived fires in the world.
Judaculla Rocks Real: The rock Zak damages in Return of Tsul’Kalu is the Judaculla rock, which is in the show the same as it is in real life - significant to the Cherokee people and associated with Tsul’Kalu, the Master of Game.
“Kur” used to refer to the first mythological dragon: So we now know that “Kur” referred to a TON of different things - the mountains, the lands, the people who came from the mountains, the netherworld, etc. HOWEVER, at the time, the main person writing about Kur attributed the word to a serpentine beast living at the bottom of the Netherworld, which he then called the first dragon ever depicted in human mythology. This has been more or less debunked now, but it’s what the show was using. Serpentine symbolism is used in the show to represent Kur - there’s a set of snakes on some of the doors in Kur’s tomb, and Kur’s most dedicated servants are sneople.
“I have done TOO MUCH research into the show.”
This tier is about my descent into madness. It covers research that wouldn’t normally be performed, supplementary material that very few people know about, etc.
Men of the Saturday family have biblical names: First we have Solomon Saturday and Zak Saturday, with Zak pretty obviously standing in for some variant of Zakariya/Zechariah. The prequel comics also give us an Elijah Saturday and a Samuel Saturday, so this is a very deliberate choice.
Solomon = “peace” but also associated with the Lesser Key of Solomon: The Lesser Key of Solomon is a famous demonology grimoire that lists several demons, their ranks, what they do, and how to summon them. A little bit like a cryptopedia.
Zak = Zakariya = “God Has Remembered”: That’s what his name means. And, like... kind of spooky considering Zak’s the reincarnation of a god. Now, while lots of spellings of this name exist, I prefer Zakariya. I think Doc initially would've wanted Zachariah/Zechariah because it's more biblical, but I also personally believe Drew (who speaks Arabic and is a white mom) would go for something a little more unique, compromising on the Arabic spelling. Plus, it has the K in it. Which I like. Though it would be in character for Zak to be Zachariah and shorten it with a K on purpose himself to look cooler. Either way, Zakariya/Zachariah/any of its variants is almost certainly what Zak is short for. Zechariah is also, famously, the last of the martyrs. And martyr himself Zak did!
Drew and Doyle are Gaelic / Ginger confirmed: Drew is albino so she wouldn’t have them but we were cheated out of Doyle with freckles. This is, incidentally, probably why Zak has freckles in the Ben10 crossover that I don’t like thinking about.
Wadi = riverbed that sometimes dries up: Wadi, noun. A valley, gully, or streambed in northern Africa and southwest Asia that remains dry except during the rainy season. It’s symbolism about the whole Eterno thing.
Short hair Drew: You guys want some concept art?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zak’s name used to be Francis:
Tumblr media
Abbey sold plundered relics to museums for money: Also from the prequel comics; Abbey was Zak’s favorite babysitter because she used to take him on wild wacky adventures... robbing tombs. And then selling the artifacts she’d find there to museums. Van Rook shows up and does a “not so different” on her for this. And he was sooo right!
Divining rod = Shiva’s trident: This fucking thing HAUNTED ME FOR YEARS
Tumblr media
Because that’s not any “divining rod” or “dowsing rod” I know about! Well, GUESS WHAT.
Tumblr media
It’s Shiva’s fucking trident. It symbolizes many different trinities, like “past/present/future” and “joy/compassion/love” and stuff. YEARS IT TOOK ME.
Kur is associated with the Hindu god Shiva, known as “The Destroyer”: Kur’s tomb is literally a temple dedicated to Shiva, one of Shiva's symbols is a cobra coiled around his neck (and Rani Nagi famously uses cobras to chat), and the divining rod used to find Kur is shaped like Shiva’s trishula. Furthermore, one of Shiva's aspects is the King of Beasts. So, like, yeah. The cobra tends to symbolize how Shiva has tamed the venomous ego, and his dominion over all animals on earth, so... they are making a really obvious parallel here. Rani Nagi even calls Kur “the destroyer” at one point! The clear implication of this association is both to more strongly enforce the idea that Kur is something divine, or seen as divine, and to cast its destruction in a more ambiguous light - Shiva may be the destroyer, but he is also the preserver, and in no iteration of Hinduism is he treated as an evil deity. Creation, preservation, and destruction is merely a natural cycle, one of the trinities represented by Shiva's trident. But it sure sucks for the people who are getting destroyed, so it's natural a creature whose existence IS destroying things would be viewed as "evil" or "bad" by the unfortunate species getting their asses kicked.

class 1-a hcs based on science and shit: part 1
u cant tell me any of these characters smell completely normal. or good in a way u can make candles out of them. this is my hc list and i am RUNNING with it. @emogaeness this 1's for u, my dude
Aoyama: one of the only 'normal' smelling ones. he defs uses french parfum but also he probably smells like heated metal and cheese all the time. Energy doesnt really have a smell til it interacts with gas so i think he probably just smells like however he wants to.
Mina: IM SORRY TO SAY BUT MISS MAAM IS STINKY AS HECK. mina is an acid producer and therefore smells acidic--and going by what we know of acid, she smells PUNGENT. dairy-like but also sour. BUT her body is probably evolved to be antacidic and she's a gymnast. after reading like, 2 research papers, gymansts chalk (magnesium carbonate) neutralizes acids (caus its 10.5 ph) and so i think while she does kinda smell, it wouldnt be AS bad even if she's training. its possible for her to wear perfume if she wanted, since usually they're around the 7 pH range.
Tsuyu: Oh. wet grass. and just. damp. she probably smells like marshlands or just nature in general, because thats part of camouflage. she probably also has an underlying sweet scent from venom? idk. on the normal she'd probably just smell neutral if a little musty.
Iida: ok i had to wiki this but i dont think he smells like much? he faintly smells like exhaust--but when he overuses his quirk and inevitably combusts whatever engines he uses, the chemical reaction creates sulfur which would make him smell like rotten eggs. otherwise he smells like orange juice (his choice of 'fuel'), sweat, and cologne.
Uraraka: I think she just smells like mochi lol. gravity doesnt really alter her body so i think ochako's normal--if a bit sweet bc she generally seems to like sweet stuff in canon
Ojiro: OK HES JUST GOT A WEIRD LUMP OF FLESH ON HIS BACK FOR A TAIL THO LIKE?? IDK HE SMELLS NORMAL?? maybe a bit like spray-on shampoo and deodorant, but that's it. does a third limb of pure muscle smell like anything? no? godspeed, mashirao, godspeed.
Kaminari: he smells like ozone. He's probably crazy static since he generates the electricity inside of him constantly and is canonically a terrific electricity conduit, so unlike aoyama he'd definitely smell like frying electricity. also. (minor manga spoilers) he bathes enough to be able to call midoriya stinky, so he definitely has basic hygiene. other than that i think he smells like sweaty leather bc of his hero costume and candy.
Kirishima: not quirk related but he probably just smells like sweat. and like, meat. maybe dirt. i love this boy but i'm also a sheeple bc i believe in the hc that he smells like axe body spray. and really good conditioner bc of how fucked up his hair would be by now if he wasn't taking very good care of it.
Kouda: smells like animals. like. bunnies and hamsters and birds and stuff. its not bad per se, but he definitely smells like he's constantly hanging out with the city's local rodent and avian population. other than that he probably just smells neutral/like nothing, since that's more approachable to the prey animals that he seems to favor.
Satou: baked goods and candy.
Shouji: I think Shouji is probably the most hygiene-conscious of all the kids in 1-A. Because of the amount of open/accessible body parts like eyes, nose, ears on his limbs--he probably takes very good care in showering and all that stuff to prevent random infections or just generally damaging any of his senses. Dude's chill--smells like mild soap and laundry detergent.
Jirou: Ah, not gonna lie she probably smells a bit like burnt electrical wires. She's a bit like Kaminari in terms of smell, except her's have that more 'metallic' and burning sharpness whenever she uses the stunning part of her quirk. Other than that... probably also leather because of her hero costume, or just like the inside of an instrument shop (wood, ivory, brass, etc.)
Sero: Packaging type. you know when you pull like, a large strip of tape and--? yeah? that. smells like tack. other than that, excellent hygiene! bergamot and pine or whatever.
Tokoyami: he smells like bird, but only faintly. dude mostly smells a little musty caus he probably never airs out his room. Dark shadow is described like "dark energy" which, similar to aoyama, kaminari, and jirou, probably makes the air around him smell different bc thats gas interacting with energy. Aside from that, he most likely smells neutral. (... maybe with a bit of leather and metal because thats just how his fashion probably works)
Todoroki: Sweat, but not like, a lot. He definitely doesn't smell bad after battles because steam kills bacteria like, fairly effectively, and would eliminate most foul odors. I think he'd smell like Expensive herbal soap or whatever most of the time. He doesn't seem like the type to be unhygienic.
Hagakure: ????? fuck dude she probably tries her best to smell like nothing, caus if her whole schtick is being invisible then its probably best if she just smelt like nothing. imagine being a villain and then promptly getting kicked in the nuts by a gust of wind that smells like strawberry peach.
Mineta: i cant explain it but just... warm grape juice. his... orbs. have oily/sticky like substances to act as adhesive and ill be damned before u tell me he doesn't smell like anything even remotely artificial-grape-flavoring adjacent. he also smells of like,, axe body spray but stronger.
Yaoyorozu: herbal tea on a normal day. most likely the digestive kind just because i think thats the most practical tea to have with a quirk like hers thats reliant on eating large quantities of food. other than that, i think she smells like basic weaponry-grade materials like iron, polished wood, copper, and gunpowder.
Bakugou: stinky boy. canonically, his hygiene's great but that's likely for a reason. he sweats a lot and excessively, and while his sweat is described as 'nitroglycerine-like' it doesn't mean it smells like caramel. the common description for nitroglycerine according to the brittanica encyclopedia is that it's toxic and has a 'sweet, burning taste'. the sweet scent is described as sharp at best--so while its totally okay if you wanna think of his sweat as caramel-like, i just wanted to clear up the misconception that thats what it factually is. ASSUMING his sweat still has a similar molecular makeup to nitroglycerine and has nitric dioxide, it would smell sickly sweet, if slightly neutral due to the nature of sweat itself being odorless when clean. other than that? bkg is definitely just a smelly, smelly boy. smells like sun and smoke and teenage body odor and burnt plastic.
Midoriya: SMELLY STINKY. deku sweats like, a lot. not only does ofa expend a ridiculous amount of energy and probably strains his muscles like crazy (forcing him to expel all that lactic acid in the form of sweat), but he also spends a lot of time just outside in general. science slightly aside, deku smells a lot like grass and dirt and just,,, the outdoors in general. he, like kaminari, smells very strongly of ozone (clean, chlorine-like) because of the sheer amount of energy output OfA has. Not expounding past the manga, Black Whip is described as a quirk that produces tendrils of pure black energy. This probably creates the same effect/smell as an area struck by lightning.

fuck it we ball actually info about kurier below
in terms of technical information, Kurier is in his late thirties, stands at 168 cm and has a rather strong build (think like a dad bod or whatever it's called). in terms of in-game stats it would exceed in strenght (8) and intelligence (7), have decent endurance (5) and agility (5) while totally lacking in perception (2), charisma (1) or luck (2); strong with melee and hand-to-hand, while the only gun it can use is a plasma blaster, because it will do enough damage no matter where she aims (as far as i understand energy weapons, they explode people), even still, she avoids using firearms, better yet, fights all together. in terms of perks, i'm not really sure yet and i'm basing my list here on what i read on the wiki, don't look at them super, like, game-wise, they're here more so to visualise the character etc etc. as i was saying, perks: strong back, super slam!, animal friend (1st rank), night person, solar powered, slayer and robotics expert. i know that's not all (i think you can reach up to 25 perks in total), but you get the point. it's absolutely shit at barter, speech and anything similar, extremely awkward in conversations but not exactly unwelcoming. pretty good at repairs and lockpicking (i know in-game it's a perception skill but this is not a gameplay tutorial), maybe even a bit of science/medicine. what else! maybe personality. i mentioned it somewhere already but its like a typical loner kind of character, except maybe a bit confused about it, not a very elegant, mysterious loner, more like a "they have been standing in the corner for 15 minutes, do you think i should talk to them?" type of loner, as i mentioned, they're just awkward. they DO like company, they just don't know how to approach people and make friends, well, human ones at least. if someone is open and friendly with them, however, it's very possible they'll also loosen up and chat. he tries to be kind and help where it can, can be very forgiving if he understands someone's reason (for example, he forgave jessup, benny fucked them both over and besides, he was just trying to get around as far as he's concerned). besides getting its hands dirty, it enjoys collecting, climbing/hiking and fashion quite a bit. her main companion is, of course, ed-e (and maybe arcade later on). as for the rest, i can't really say as i haven't gotten all that far in-game just yet, but i think she'd be instantly repelled by boone (just kind of felt unwelcome so she didn't talk to him more than once), would probably get along with manny though but he's not a companion (SAD!). with arcade i think they'd enjoy learning things from him, whether that be just facts or knowledge they can apply in life (then again i'm not exactly sure how arcade is). coming back to behavior for a second, it doesn't enjoy killing even if necessary and will take things only if its sure they're abandoned (unless it REALLY wants/needs them, then maybe it'll steal). with killing it's more of a moral standpoint but stealing is just kind of stressful for it lol. there is really not much more i think i can say lol but feel free to ask abt more etc etc

my thoughts of c!niki post the 11/28/21 streams
(just a note: none of this is about CC niki! just my thoughts on her character. all quotes used were either taken from @kateis-cakeis amazing quote list or niki’s dream smp wiki page)
I’m going to be honest, I’m not the fondest of c!niki’s actions from this stream and where she seems to be going, but i wanted to try to write out what i understand about her and her motivations and how they’ve changed. sorry if this is incredibly rambley or goes on a bunch of tangents lol
here we go: c!niki is a difficult one. from season one to where we are now at the beginning of season four, she’s seen a lot of change.
following season one, but most obviously in the transition from season two to three, we see a shift in niki’s priorities and motivations, from outward motivation to inner goal oriented motivation. however, if you just listen to what she says and not what she does, you might have a hard time pin pointing it.
in season one, c!niki is undoubtedly motivated by loyalty, primarily for her friends. her care for her friends (most notably c!wilbur at this time) is what pushes her, what keeps her around. notably, while she cares about l’manburg, that’s not her prime motivator. You can see it here: "You know I'm loyal to you, Will, you know I'm loyal to you[. . .] And to L'Manberg! I am... of course." (Wilbur's The Dream Pub Quiz: 11:14, 10th Aug)
Niki is loyal, she does things for her friends. And after that trust is broken at the end of season one, and then again throughout season two, we see a massive shift in her views, marked by these next two quotes from Doomsday era: "Ranboo, I am on your side here, I don't care about L'Manberg anymore, I don't want to fight with Tommy, that is all I want. Because Tommy and I aren't friends anymore, Tommy lied to us multiple times! And you know what? I hate liars." Niki to Ranboo "Goodbye, L'Manberg. You were a true friend, you were a home. You were everything that we had. And now the last thing, the last thing that kept us from freedom, it's gone. It's beyond being repaired. Bye, L'Manberg." Niki after burning down the L’Mantree
No longer is Niki undyingly loyal. No longer will she trust her friends blindly, or forgive so easily.
And then, we move into season three and the syndicate.
now on screen we don’t see much of the syndicate. we’ve gotten maybe 4-5 streams of them together, and in canon there seems to be a weird mix of canonized off screen bonding and the acknowledgement that that they don’t actually hang out, both co-existing. its...weird and confusing and strangely meta and 4th walk breaky like a lot of techno’s lore, which makes it difficult to make conclusions out of for analysis.
despite all of this, from niki’s time with the syndicate, i can note a few things about her:
she likes to push blame off of herself to other characters (primarily tommy and wilbur, characters she has justified problems with, but uses as a scapegoat for even more of her problems than deserved, to make them more palatable for herself)
she still outwardly expresses friend/loyalty oriented motivations ("I hope Techno's alright, I can't lose another friend. I can't lose another friend to Dream." - Niki talking to herself during the Prison Break)
despite her position in the syndicate, she still is more of a listener than a leader
underneath that, her motivations now lay heavily in self-preservation
she continues to talk about her friends (see quote above), about how the syndicate found her, about how they care about her, about how they were there for her, but below that is an undercurrent of “I won’t lose what I have again.”
Not to say she doesn’t care about the syndicate, or isn’t motivated by loyalty to them, but its more than that. she doesn’t help c!dream because she cares about him, or thinks he should be out, in fact she hates dream! she’s scared of him!
but she helps break him out because its how she keeps her status quo. yes, the whole server will change. yes, people might find her out.
but she gets to keep herself in line with the syndicate. she gets to keep her sense of power. she gets to keep her sense of belonging. she gets to keep her friends.
and that’s why she helps break him out. not out of an undying loyalty to the syndicate, she doesn’t begrudgingly follow along despite of her morals because her friends believe in it. she does it (and without much complaint, even if she does fret about setting off the withers for like thirty minutes) because in her mind this is the best choice for her wellbeing.
and that’s how c!niki has gone from a more self-less motivation to a self-interested motivation, over the course of the dream smp.

so ive been writing the biographies of each vox machina member for the wiki, which i did by visiting every episode article and looking for meaningful moments for each characters (and using a couple of fan-made “best moments” lists). and I just wanted to say how interesting it is to me that some characters have much longer biographies than others - like they take a while longer to put together, because overall each player was equally active around the table (with the exception of Ashley, because she missed a lot of games). Keyleth, Vax’ildan and Percy have the longest biographies, with Vex not too far behind, then Scanlan, and Grog. It’s interesting because it shows you how different their players handled their characters. Keyleth, Vax and Percy spent a lot more time roleplaying one on one scenes with other characters, or had an overarching quest that lasted  a long time(Percy and the Briarwoods/Ripley, Keyleth and her Aramenté, Vax and the Raven Queen stuff). This isn’t to say the characters are more interesting than the others, or that the others were better at doing group stuff, they were just different characters who acted differently. other than the kevdak stuff and occasional cursed sword, he wasn’t often the focus. but he’s still one of my favorite characters and made a big impact with his personality.
I also think it’s really fun to compare these to the characters played by the same people in campaign two. Beau had a lot less going on than Keyleth, because her personal goals were pretty much just to uncover the main plot points of the campaign, but she was just as memorable. Caleb probably has the fullest biography of the Nein (although i didn’t check i may be wrong) because Liam played him in such a tragic way that everything related to him had a lot more impact - very similar to how Vax’s whole raven queen thing was played. Meanwhile, if you compare Caduceus to Percy, he seems to have a lot less going on. This is the most fascinating one I think, because Taliesin clearly enjoys really gritty storylines with tragic backstories, but Cad was played in such a like... soft way. He also has a tragic backstory but its more like a long melancholy than a violent and shocking event. what’s interesting is that Percy also didn’t really talk much, but when he did he always got super passionate about things, so it stood out a lot. Tal had a habit of speaking very eloquently and confidently for both of them, but it came out as smart obnoxious in Percy, and simple wisdom in Caduceus. but like, either of these characters could have said most of the other’s quotable lines, and I bet it wouldn’t have been out of character.
think about how Travis played Grog vs how he played Fjord for example. the first was much more of a comic relief character and the second more serious, but when you really look at them they’re pretty similar. Travis plays in a way that’s very active and goal oriented, and he doesn’t spend a lot of time talking about his characters’ pasts. the interesting thing is that, when he does, its very simple but extremely effective, and it also feels like the character doesn’t like to share it - which is hard to do for dnd players, because we all make our backstories and are immediately excited to share them with everyone!!
anyway this is more a rambling than an essay i dont think im even trying to say anything and i def didnt read it over before posting it lol just some observations i wanted to share. if you read this whole thing hi!! drink some water or something

My dudes. My guys. My pals.
I’m about 10 seconds away from going feral.
So, I’m the kind of unfortunate chump whose brain requires continuity. Meaning, when I started thirst watching Supergirl during its mid-season-2 hiatus and came across the realization that it had crossovers with all the other arrowverse shows, my brain tasked me with watching them all. I won’t put you through a recount of this arduous feat, but it does leave me with the certain advantage of having immediate and full-contextual access to any parallels between supercorp and canon CW DCEU couples.
Normally, this is a good thing, because it’s just another crumb to obsess over. But I just finished watching Legends 6x02 and...I. AM. FUMING.
I literally don’t even know where to start, but know that if you’ve made it this far you’re in for a long ride because my entire being is in Scream mode right now and I’m not sure I’ll be able to stop typing until it passes.
OKAY. So.
Meet Sara Lance (lol jk y’all thirsty gays know who she is I mean look at this flawless human)
Tumblr media
Next, meet her ******* Ava Sharpe (who is literally the definition of white European beauty standards-based perfection because she’s a clone from the future)
Tumblr media
And finally, meet Gary Green. He’s...well, he’s Gary.
Tumblr media
Sara started out on Arrow and is now the captain of the Legends. Ava was the director of the Time Bureau and Gary was an agent, and now they are also members of the Legends. Sara has been there (and been the show’s effective lead) since season 1. Ava and Gary both came in at the beginning of season 3.
Gary is (as pictured) an absolute fool, but he is also kind of regarded as the one the Legends Must Protecc. The whole team is considered a family, and, while they are not necessarily labeled as best friends, Gary has been Ava’s longest and most loyal companion, and Sara has a way of adopting him because she’s the best equipped to keep him out of trouble.
So, why is all of this relevant to why I want to go feral? Because it sounds a bit familiar, yes? Member of the team that is somewhat a black sheep, doesn’t get included fully or all the time but often comes in with save-the day type shit (even though with Gary it’s more of a distraction than a save because he’s a mess of a man). Close friend to one of our two main heroes and, subsequently, that hero’s closest companion puts them at the top of their Protecc list. Has little faith in his relationships with the team so he is constantly going out of his way to help in whatever way he can to prove his usefulness. And so on and so forth.
Well, 6x01 marks exactly 3 years since Gary’s first appearance, and what did we find out in that episode? That Gary is an alien. And not just any alien - an alien who was sent (by the woman he was traded to) to get close to Sara because she has been labeled as one of the world’s most dangerous creatures. Not to mention, his species of alien feeds on humans (not him of course, he’s reformed, but nonetheless not a friendly species). And we find out all of this because he and his master abduct her.
Sara finds out in person while Ava and the rest of the Legends solve the mystery on their own. Now, I’ve drawn a lot of comparisons between Lena and Gary to make a point about the time frame and nature of their relationships, but let’s take a look at Sara, shall we? For starters, she’s been “dead” either literally or supposedly about...what, 15 times now? If you think that’s an exaggeration, here’s the link to her fan wiki which says she’s been presumed dead 10 times and actually dead 5. The sg writers tried to sell season 5 as “the fight for Lena’s soul” but Sara LITERALLY LOST HER SOUL when she got resurrected in the Lazarus pit. 90% of Sara’s character development has been based on her certainty that she is too close to death and evil and destruction (getting possessed by a demon, perhaps, had something to do with this?). She was an actual literal assassin and she has left civilization out of anger and pain to go back to that life once before.
She has always believed that she is too dangerous to have real love or relationships or friends. And now she has found and built and led this family through time and space and she’s done so with this goofball by her side that is endearingly attached to the love of her life. So, how does she react when she finds out Gary is an alien? Well, clearly, she goes down a dark path, right? She cries and screams and talks about betrayal because she’s had such a hard time with feeling like she only ever puts the people she loves in danger and now here she is finding out there’s been a human-eating alien in her family for three years that was tasked with observing her and keeping her in check because she is exactly that dangerous?
Yeah...try again. This is how Sara reacts:
youtube
And then there's another scene that apparently no one even bothered to put on YouTube where you can see the pain in Sara's eyes when she asks him “why me?” You can see how hurt she is that after 3 years she’s just finding out that their friendships is based on lies and that she has trouble keeping her faith in it. But in both of these instances where are the “crocodile tears?” Where are the fearful, shaky confessions from Gary about his fear of losing the only people who have ever really loved or cared about him and desperate justifications about how he just wanted to protect them and keep them in the dark so his master didn’t come after them? Where is the outrage from Sara about how everything Gary has reassured her about over the past three years when she was scared to let the damaged-soul assassin inside of her out was a lie and he doesn’t get to tell her who or what she is again? Where is the determination from Ava to make Gary pay for not only lying for three years but for ABDUCTING THE LOVE OF HER LIFE TO HAND OVER TO A FLESH-EATING ALIEN??????
Nowhere. Those things...they’re nowhere. There’s anger. There’s pain. There’s doubt and heartbreak and fury. There’s betrayal and helplessness and desperation. But there is no scene with Sara standing on a balcony and Gary looking up at her longingly because he wants to talk to her about the secret and he knows it will change everything between them. There is no scene with Sara and Ava lamenting over what this means for Gary and the team and the world because he’s no longer the person they knew. There are no romantically-scored scenes of them looking teary-eyed at the pictures they took together or reassurances that the others’ intentions are good and trustworthy now that the truth is out in the open. There is nothing to imply that the last several years of friendship are now entirely suspect (damaged, frayed, clouded, maybe, but definitely not voided) because Gary kept this secret to protect them. And Gary isn’t made to feel obscenely guilty or shameful because his intentions were good and he only did what he felt he had to. But most of all, the world doesn’t feel like it’s going to end.
And I’m not talking about we’re now scared Gary will take his master’s side or Sara will suddenly decide that she never wants an alien to fool her or hurt her again so she’s going to make sure he doesn’t have the choice. I’m just talking about the way they address each other. There are no sobbing tears or laments over the biggest mistakes of their lives - even though it’s quite possible Gary could see this as his. There are no screaming matches over betrayal and mistrust and years of doubt and confusion. There will be no episode dedicated to going back and seeing what could have happened - what kind of danger they could have avoided from the alien(s) controlling Gary - had he told them the truth sooner because that’s the only way to save him and the world. There will be no episode where he has to single-handedly save them multiple times as some example of redemption. There will be no adamant looks and declarations about how the team knows his intentions were good and they forgive him. There won’t be any of that. Because Sara is not in love with Gary. And Ava is not in love with Gary. And Gary is not in love with either Sara or Ava. They’re just close friends. Family. Loved ones who mean a lot to each other but whose betrayal and seeds of doubt don’t bring on emotions whose force and ferocity could be acceptable for finding out the apocalypse is nigh.
I have many, many more feelings about this but right now I’m going to go write things that will make me feel better and not things that make me want to gather every writer from every CW show in a line and run down the line smacking them all in the face while the Legends writers watch and cheer. But I’m fuming. THIS is what it looks like when a years-long, heavily weighted lie is revealed between close friends/family. So, in conclusion, Supercorp endgame or die.

fic asks!! 23, 25, 39, 49, 50 (all/any)
oooooo thank you!!
23. What’s a trope, AU, or concept you’ve never written, but would like to?
stories told through letters, journal entries, etc. are pretty cool! i think at one point i had an idea about niq nyong'o keeping a journal during season 24 (it's in my list of "things i want to write about")
25. What other websites or resources do you use most often when you write?
i don't think i have ever passed the "write a blaseball fic without using reblase/before" test (so basically i have you to thank for making sure i don't completely fuck up things that happened on the site. thank you o7)
oh also the blaseball wiki
i just write blaseball fic so yeah
39. Is any aspect of your writing process inspired by other writers or people? If so, who?
i can't think of anyone in particular, but i often find myself reading other people's stuff and going "wow i wish i could write stuff like that." it's too many people to list individually. all i'll say is...wow. blaseball fic writers are Good
49. What are you currently working on? Share a few lines if you’re up for it!
oh fuck shit i'm still like 5000 words into putting the blorbos in the angst blender (which i put on hold because i got into a bunch of other creative projects recently and will probably not work on for a bit longer so i can work on [REDACTED] for the lift exchange)
yeah i can share a few lines. have some sibling dialogue
In Tokyo, the Sunbeams batter falls to its knees in the outfield, digging its fingers into the grass and watching its tears leave beads on the blades.
Out of the corner of its eye, it sees the Lift batter making a run for second, and without another thought, it takes off in a sprint.
The Lift batter doesn’t have much time to react before her sibling knocks her to the ground in a full-speed tackle.
“Out!” an umpire yells.
“Ow…” the Lift batter grumbles, rubbing the side of her head as she sits up. “What the hell was—“
“I thought you were going to die!” the Sunbeams batter wails. “You were up there forever! I was scared!”
“I…I was scared, too. I tried. I really did.”
“W-well, you should have tried harder!”
and then they hug :)
50. Answer any question of your choice, or talk about anything you want to talk about!
ooooooooo free choice! i'm gonna take question 3 because...yeah.
(3. What are some tropes or details that you think are very characteristic of your fics?)
i sure do like to write about characters that are either very afraid of the future or very ashamed of their past. they all get hugs in the end because i think they deserve to be happy. i like to throw characters in the angst blender, but i write stories where it's clear people care about them and want them to be happy, too. even if it's more of a bittersweet ending, i try to give everyone at least some closure (for example, i specifically wrote the vault so parker and chorby couldn't interact with each other after the semi-centennial, but chorby does get to at least know parker's okay at the end of it all oops i just spoiled the ending lol)
basically i point at the blorbos and go "i want you to suffer but also you can have a hug"

I wanna hear what you have to say about Clint! I’ve always been p neutral towards him since he’s not an NPC I interact with often anymore and I don’t really have any strong feelings about his characterization, so hearing someone who appreciates him would be cool (esp since it seems like 90% of the fandom really hates him lol)
i think the best way to go about this for me is to counter the common arguments i see against clint? so that’s what i’ll do
my big long explanations below the cut
1. Clint is a “nice guy”
clint makes misguided comments in his first heart event, yeah. but this isn’t a prolonged trend for him. clint does not remark that he feels owed anything. clint does not remark that emily is a bitch or anything for not returning his feelings. if anything clint just yearns at his seat at the saloon until happenstance puts him and emily in the same conversation. i don’t really think he’s ever forward or creepy towards her, not canonically. at festivals when he talks to the player about her it’s him confiding in the player. is it weird? yes, of course it’s weird. but he’s not a bad person for it, he’s just painfully awkward
2. Clint is ugly
is he ugly? is he really? are you just letting your preconceived dislike of him influence how you think he looks? is it because he’s one of like 4 fat characters in this game? like maybe that’s a little harsh but what with how many people i see slim down and buff up everyone in the valley when they draw them, even characters that have clearly rounded faces and figures in their sprites, even characters that remark about their own weight like shane, i do think i’m justified in wondering if the fact that clint doesn’t fit the box of slim fit hansome young bachelor has anything to do with why people say he’s ugly.
3. Clint is stalking Emily
i think this stems from a misinterpretation of the heart event where he asks emily out on a date. hes not hiding in the bush because he wants to watch her in secret. he’s hiding in the bush because he chickened out when he was on her doorstep. he even says he just wants to leave. he wasn’t hiding there with a pair of binoculars or anything, when the player shows up it’s not long after he fled to hide.
4. Clint doesn’t deserve Emily
i see people who hate clint say this often and like… yes? did you read the note in his room where he admits he has no chance with her? like this is a matter of opinion ultimately but it’s another thing that gives me the impression people who say these things about clint never actually take the time to get to know him before they judge
5. Clint still hits on Emily after you marry her
this one i agree sucks but honestly i chalk it up to how he’s programmed. i do not think it was concernedape’s intention to make him hit on your wife. also it’s not like crushes magically go away after your crush starts dating someone else. again, i agree this is definitely uncomfortable but without an update to the game or a mod there’s no way around it
6. Emily hates Clint
i see this one in headcanons a lot and it’s just so absolutely baseless it’s clear people who hate clint are just trying to justify themselves doing so. emily never says anything bad about clint. emily seems to want to go to grampleton with him, even just as friends. i mean they’re listed as friends on the stardew wiki. i don’t know what else to say. these characters have absolutely no ill will between them canonically
Conclusion
so like. here’s what i think is happening.
first, people take a liking to emily. they do all emily’s heart events first. emily’s eight heart event makes them not like clint, and i mean of course it does, even i can admit he soured that heart event with emily. and then i think since that makes people not like clint, they go into all of his heart events already not liking him, and this leads them to misinterpret everything he does, and in turn understand him to be some antagonistic chatacter.
but he’s not. clint is really just like any other mediocre dude in this game. hell, i think shane is a WAY more unlikable character than clint is and yet i see shane fans shitting on clint like he’s worse! i seriously don’t understand it. don’t get me wrong, shane is one of my favorite bachelors, but if you ADORE shane and DESPISE clint it really makes me wonder what the difference there is.
if anyone reads this and take personal offense to it i apologize that i made you feel that way but in the end stardew valley is a game you are welcome to consume however you like. don’t like clint? don’t talk to him, then. i do not think less of you for doing so. but when i see people in the tag being like “omg there’s so little content of (very popular bachelor/bachelorette)” i die a little inside because there’s basically only three types of clint fan content. fic/art where he’s a background/side character, fic/art where he’s portrayed as a slob/asshole/nice guy/pig/idiot, or on rare occasions, fic/art where he’s shipped with emily. and i do not want to see literally any of that.
there is like 1 good clint fanartist on tumblr but i don’t wanna name drop in this post cuz i don’t wanna draw negative attention to them but i can recommend them elsewhere.
anyways that’s my defense of clint. make of it what you will

( cierra ramirez. 21. she/her. cis female. ) are you a VIGILANTE? something tells me that neon colored barrettes littered through dark hair, a badger trailing in tow, weathered sneakers pounding into pavement beneath make you who you are, GABRIELLE “GABBY” KINNEY. with the powers of RETRACTABLE BONE CLAWS & REGENRATIVE HEALING, you’re sure to have a protective, brutal honesty personality — and you definitely belong to UNAFFILIATED. were you listening to SOMEBODY I’M PROUD OF by SARAH BARRIOS on your way to the subway? it suits you. we can’t wait to see what you do next!
hi all ! i’m g. this is a sideblog to @eternthena. i use she&her and am 24. ty for the interest in my characters !!
character name: gabby / honeybadger
age: twenty-one though older due to delayed aging
faceclaim: cierra ramirez
voiceclaim: cierra ramirez
skill set: healing factor, inability to feel pain due to nanotech/nanites in her blood, singular bone claw in each hand, trained assassin, enhanced senses and agility.
affiliations: laura kinney, jonathan the wolverine, daken akihiro, logan howlett, wade wilson.
family: wolvie fam
zodiac: unknown
wiki link: xoxo
height: 4′8
noted features: facial scarring, smol babe
sexuality: lesbian
species: mutant
* of marvel comics, this is gabby b4 old woman laura timeline/lazer claws/taking the wolverine title lol !
was your character “blipped” out? if so, what did they return to and how is it affecting them? if not, who important to them was blipped out, and what has it felt like after those five years have passed?
gabby was not blipped, leaving her w/o her sister laura. it forced gabby to grow up in many ways having only known what she knew of life alongside laura. in typical wolverine fashion she managed with undeniable strength happy to have jonathan to keep her company in laura’s absence. in many ways she knew laura would find her way back to her, they always find each other, this doesn’t mean she didn’t stop looking during the span of the five years.
where are they living? are they living with anyone?
living in a shotty apartment with laura and jonathan.
why is your character affiliated with who they’re affiliated with?
gabbys trust lies in laura and her gut. she’s always true to herself and her beliefs.
who are their major friends, allies, and foes?
laura her sister is her biggest love, jonathan is her very best friend. aligned with the wolvie fam. wade wilson is also a close friend. usually she takes laura’s lead on their friend group though she knows laura isn’t the fondest of wade.  doesn’t care for captain america/steve rogers due to his past with laura. also following the comics and laura’s biggest threat, doctor doom would be on gabbys enemy list. as well as those affiliated with alchemax genetics.
whose hands do they believe the country should be in?
like laura her trust is limited, meaning neither really spark any pull. that and she’s genuinely uninterested.
what’s their current mental state at? their physical state?
gabby is carefree and happy as always. she represents childlike wonder and this makes her naïve at times, still, even if now she’s older. she’s even happier to have laura back ( and all the more clingy because of their time apart ) and finds it funny the pair are now closer in physical age than prior to the blip. she’s also stoked to have daken and logan around, happiest when they’re all near and working together, even if they bicker. gabby has been lucky in the sense laura has given her this major sense of family and in turn, she’s very kind and sweet. daken even helped her with her alias calling her honeybadger due to her being sweet and tiny. physically she’s stronger than ever having matured. she’s hitting stronger than ever, having honed skills in her time apart and on her own.
