A/N: Happy Valentine’s Day! I am lonely so please enjoy some dancing in the kitchen and being in love with Javi P. I may or may not have cried writing this. 💕❤️💝💌💟❣️💒🌹
I found a love, to carry more than just my secrets
To carry love, to carry children of our own
Baby, I'm dancing in the dark, with you between my arms
The apartment is dark when you walk in. You think Javi must be at work late again, which isn’t surprising, but today waiting for him is a task you’re not sure you’re up for.
Just as you’re thinking of the ways you can make Javi’s homecoming a little extra special today, you realize there’s music playing in the kitchen, and you smell your favorite candle burning, the one Javi had bought you on your first anniversary.
You quickly notice that the song playing is the one you danced to at your wedding, flooding your mind with memories and images of the most beautiful day of your life, and your eyes with tears.
How could Javi have made this evening so perfect already before even knowing what you had to tell him? Of course today was Valentine’s Day and Javi never forgot it, but this was on another level.
“Mi amor?”
You realized you’d been standing in the doorway processing the scene in your apartment for quite a while, and you’d forgotten to actually go inside all the way. Javi appeared around the corner, confused.
“I thought I heard the door open, but when you didn’t come in I got a little worried. Why are you just standing there?”
He walked to you, wrapping his arms around you and pulling you tight to his chest, his comforting smell surrounding you.
“I just… I got a little overwhelmed when I noticed the music and the candle, I’m a little over-emotional today I guess” you sniffed, pulling away from Javi a little to look at his face.
“I didn’t mean to make you cry, cariño, just wanted to make things special for you. Why don’t you actually come inside and see everything?”
He kissed your forehead and took your hand, leading you into the kitchen.
The lights were dimmed, champagne poured in your nicest glasses, and a gorgeous dinner laid out on the little dining table the two of you had bought the day you moved in together. There was a huge bouquet of roses in the center of the table, and a little black box with a bow wrapped around it.
Maybe on any other day this display would seem cheesy, but today it was the most perfect thing you could have asked for.
You opened your mouth to say something, but words couldn’t form. How could anything do justice to what this man had done for you? Not just this evening, but every second you had known him.
When you met Javier, you had felt lost. Your plans had all blown up, and you had no idea what your future held, or if you could handle it on your own. But Javi had swept in and rescued you from the hole you’d dug yourself into, piecing you back together and guiding you exactly where you needed to go. He hadn’t had an easy path either, but helping you had saved him as well. Saving other people had always been the one thing Javi knew he could do.
When he’d asked you to marry him, you knew that everything else before meeting Javi had just been leading you to him, shaping you both into exactly what the other needed. And yesterday, when you’d worked up enough courage to look down at that pregnancy test and saw two lines, you’d never felt happier, and you knew that when you told Javi the news he’d feel the same.
All of those thoughts bombarded you at once, making you incapable of any sound other than a sob. Javi quickly put his hands on your cheeks, wiping the tears away, his brow creasing with concern again.
“Angel, what’s wrong? Did something happen today that made you upset? This is supposed to be a happy occasion.”
“No, no Javi” you said, half laughing. “I am happy. I’m so unbelievably happy I don’t know what to do but stand here and cry apparently.”
Javi smiled, the most beautiful smile you’d ever seen, and moved away only to grab the two champagne glasses from the table and hand one to you.
“Then let’s celebrate” he said, reaching his glass out to toast.
“Wait, Javi. I—“ you weren’t exactly prepared to tell him right this moment, but you couldn’t refuse the champagne for no reason. You took a deep breath.
“I can’t have champagne.” You rushed the words out and waited for Javier to understand.
“It’s not champagne, amor. It’s sparkling cider.”
You’d been so preoccupied waiting for Javi’s reaction that his words hit you like a bus. He wasn’t supposed to be the one shocking you.
“How— what?”
Javi placed his free hand around your waist and pulled you impossibly closer.
“I took down Escobar, hermosa. You could say I’m pretty qualified to notice that my wife is acting different. Plus, you didn’t exactly hide that test.” He smirked, watching you process.
All you could do was laugh, though you were still half crying. Once again rendered speechless by this man, you leaned up to kiss him, pouring into it all the words you couldn’t say. He took both your glasses and put them back on the table, then wrapped his arms around you again and lifted you off the ground to spin you around. Once he put you back down, he broke your kiss and leaned down slightly to move his hands to your belly.
“I don’t know what I did to deserve you, or this life, but I’ve never been happier. I love you so much.” Javi looked at you like you were the sun, and you knew he was imagining the rest of your lives, just as you had done the day before.
He took your hands again, guiding you to put your head on his shoulder, and the two of you began to dance. Just like on your wedding day, it was nothing fancy, just moving to the music together. But you felt entirely protected and surrounded by Javier; for those few minutes nothing else existed.
You ended up letting the dinner get cold, and the sparkling cider get flat, but Javi didn’t forget to open that little black box, and place the locket around your neck, engraved with your wedding date and with just enough room left for your baby’s birth date.
