I feel like you’re qualified to know this: Is Moomin actually queer or is it just something the fans started headcanoning
This reminds me of this instagram comment section I have saved on my phone
But answering seriously: Yes, Moomin is queer. The one doing the swedish voice for Misabel in the 2019 series brought this up
”It’s something you didn’t think of as a child, that the gender roles are very fluid in Moominvalley. There’s many queer themes. Misabel is an example of that. Also Misabel’s dog Ynk that’s a dog that only likes cats is a good example of this. It’s one of the big strenghts, which makes you as an adult have things to ponder about in the story. It’s fun that Moominvalley is a place where everyone can be just like they are. Man or woman, dog, cat, or something in between. You can like whoever you like. Moomintroll can like Snufkin more than he likes Snorkmaiden, and sometimes he likes Snorkmaiden more and that’s also wonderful.”
Tove Jansson was a queer woman. Two characters, who for some reason are named Thingummy and Bob in english, are named Tofslan and Vifslan in original text. They are nicknames of Tove and Viveca. Viveca Bandler was a woman Tove had a secret relationship with in 1946. Tofslan and Vifslan are two characters who speak in a secret language only they can understand, and they carry around a bag that they REFUSE to open, as inside is the most beautiful thing in the world (the king’s ruby) and they are terrified of anyone finding it. So, you can see the allegory of queerness, the closed bag as the ”closet” and when they eventually open it, the secret ”comes out”.
The character Too-Ticky is also based on Tuulikki Pietilä, who was Tove’s romantic partner, who were together from 1956 up until Tove’s death. In their letters to each other, Tove used to draw Too-Ticky at end of letters
The most emotional scene I think in all of the Moomin’s stories is when Moomin hides inside the magician’s hat and he gets turned into a hideous creature. No one recognizes him even when he cries that he IS Moomin. And then his mom comes, and he shouts ”Mama, it’s me! It’s me, Moomin!”
And she looked at him, and says ”Yes, you are my son.” And that’s what makes him turn back again.
This scene can be an allegory for when coming out and trying assure them that you’re STILL YOU, and everyone is starting to see you differently.
I think the anime was really good at capturing this scene (I mean the anime is superior in every way anyway)
youtube
(Flash forward to 1:55 for when the mom comes out)

Gen II, Complete!
That's right everyone! We successfully made it through our Kantonian friends and their variants!
As such, allow me to begin the listing of this generations...
Sultans of Smash!
(Which is just a fancy way of saying they got more "Smash" than "Pass" votes)
So with that said, let's see who made the cut! Our Smashables are (under the Read More because, even if this is a bit shorter than the last one, holy fuck we're gonna be here a while):
Similar to Gen I, we start our list with the Kanto grass starter, Meganium! Reaching a 51.3% Smash vote, I guess people do indeed like that herb.
Hold on to your hats, everyone, because we've already got someone raking in The Big Numbers! That's right, Typhlosion has really pulled out some big wins. At a 66.4% Smash rating for Kantonian Typhlosion, we can easily see people like it hot. But that pales in comparison to their Hisuian cousin, who has managed to hit an overwhelmingly high vote of 82.5% (our highest percent so far)! I don't even have an attempt at a snappy quip for that one, that's just straight impressive.
Of course, we can't forget our reptilian, water-typed friend here. Yes, Feraligatr has made it to the list with a 54.2% Smash vote!
Now don't be shocked by this next one folk, though considering their typing I'm sure that'll be hard. Ampharos, that strange mix of a sheared sheep and a lighthouse, has been voted 58.2% smashable in Standard form! But much like Typhlosion, a change in form jumps that number way up, with Mega Ampharos hitting an impressive 70.3% Smash rating! Guess that luxurious hair really does add something...
Hey look at that, further proof the Eeveelutions just have that certain something to them. That's right, it's Espeon with a solid 60.3% Smash rating! You don't need ESP to see how popular they are with that kind of number.
And of course, we can't forget that dark-typed partner of Espeon, Umbreon! With a pretty good 59.3% rating, it seems Umbreon is right there with their fellow Gen II Eeveelution in the fields of smashing. But honestly, this is as it should be, Umbreon and Espeon are one of the classic "Do Not Separate" PokePairs.
Do you like big bugs, and you cannot lie? Because according to Scizor's polls, some of y'all certainly do! With a 59.7% for Standard Form and a nice, whole 57% for Mega Scizor, it seems this Pokemon's big meaty claws are good for more than just fighting! (...Yes I'm aware what I'm referencing there is coming from a cartoon crab not a cartoon bug but uh, consider: I don't care I think it's funny anyways.)
This one's yet another strange one, Houndoom has been voted 55% smashable... As Mega Houndoom. But sadly for Standard Houndoom, they juuuust lost out at a frustratingly close 49.6% Smash rating! But, this loyal hellhound made it in some capacity, so congratulations are still in order!
Here's a kind of crass one for y'all: what do FGO's depiction of famed Japanese general Minamoto no Raikou and the Legendary Pokemon Raikou have in common? If your answer is "Both are considered smashable", then congrats, you've nailed it! (Well, you've nailed the quiz, not either of the Raikous.) Yes, The Legendary Beast Of Lighting Raikou has made the list with a 55.6% Smash rating. I suppose they've made their way into people's hearts like a bolt from the blue!
Now I'm sure y'all weren't expecting just one member of the Legendary Beast Trio to make it into the Sultans of Smash, and you'd be correct. Entei has also made it in with a fine 63.2% smash rating! The blazing passion many feel for this emperor of flames cannot be denied, it seems!
And last but certainly not least of the Legendary Beasts, like a howling gale Suicune cuts their way into the Sultans of Smash with an impressive 72.2% Smash rating (and a very ringing endorsement of being the "sexiest motherfucker on the ocean" according to one tumblr user)! The North Wind they herald may be cold, but the feelings of Suicune's fans are some of the hottest we've got, it seems.
Seems this next one destroys more than just mountainsides, because Tyranitar has been voted Smashable both in Standard form (59.2%) and in Mega Evolution (51.8%)! Shame it takes so damn long to get Tyranitar, how is anyone supposed to smash when they're so far away?!
But at any rate, capping off this listing of the Sultans of Smash, we have everyone's favorite bird... dragon... leviathan beast thing, Lugia! Ranking at a damn good 68.5%, Lugia's not just a master of the Legendary Bird Trio, but a master of Smashing it seems! ...Probably helps that the Pokemon 2000 movie has Lugia talking. Passing the Harkness Test is a lot easier when you have words!
And with that, we have concluded the Gen II Who's Who of Smashing! This brings us to a total of 43 Sultans of Smash! Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for Gen III's list!

WEDNESDAY JULY 6TH, 2011 (American Anxiety)
9:34 AM Dreamed of distant rain forming a river nearby. The Camper marched out, and the river turned to blood just as I woke up. Donnie dreamed of a giant tree contained within a supermarket, the ceiling barely holding back the tree's growth. The supermarket won't last.
9:40 AM Going down to the lobby.
9:43 AM There's someone else heading to the restaurant, and they're trying a little too hard not to be seen by us.
9:45 AM Sitting down at a table. Writing in my journal to look like I'm not paying attention. Words, words, words! The walls have big photographs of New York before the red sky, many of which are torn. "Jordan, there's three of them now…" Just act natural. "They're coming this way…" I have Tiger Stripes. They'll think it's just plastic. Hell, I'd think that. They're gonna get surprised by oh god Bringing a gun to a guitar controller fight, what a dick.
9:46 AM "You shouldn't have come here." We were told we were expected. "There's no one for you here." Buddy, who do you think we are? Do you think we're here to start a fight or steal your shit? "You're here to carry out her fucking orders. You got in contact with her just yesterday, on American soil." She told us jack-shit. We're not with the Harlequin. I can show you my journal if you want? "You can write anything you want in there." Yeah, and you can say anything you want. I'm trusting that you guys are even human. Can't you trust that I'm "You're not in a position to appeal." Okay. Jesus. So. What, then? "Stay still so we can shoot you." Fuck.
9:48 AM MOTHEf9ck why would you bring a taser to a guitar controller fight when you’ve already brought a fucking shotgun
9:51 AM So.. so what just happened. Right. "Jordan, what did just happen?" We're, uh. Standing over three dead bodies. We definitely had a fight. They shot at us a lot, but all of that buckshot hit the walls. I slid under a guy's legs at one point and whacked him in the back. I was a bit too busy to watch what Donnie was doing. "Someone else came in. They drew fire away from us." But there's no one here now. she's clutching her head Hey, I believe you! I'm just narrating! "No, it's.. weirding me out. Someone else was here, and I looked right at them, but I don't.. know... what I saw." Uh-oh. That sounds like slender man shit to me. "He was wearing a hat. Does the slender man do that?" I don't know. Maybe sometimes? And we only know stories! Who knows what the real guy does? Maybe he has many outfits! "I think we should leave…" Okay. Let me just get a look at the dead guys. You go on ahead.
9:53 AM The lead guy’s got a badge on him. “R.A.F.” Is the Royal Air Force here? Shit, air power would have helped a lot in crossing the Atlantic. >_>
9:55 AM Where's our fucking duck?! "We're gonna have to walk." Fuck!!!
10:25 AM Alright, we're just.. heading in a fucking direction. Donnie's leading, she's got the map. God I hate walking. And Donnie keeps taking us in new directions because she keeps.. seeing someone.
10:85858555858885858858888885888885858588588588858588588888858858888588858585858858858885858858888885858588858855558858888885885555858888588588855885858585858588558588885585888885858585888588858588588888858888558588558885885555858588558588858588588888858855558588555885888585885888888588858585855885858885858858888885858855858585888588858585858888885888888585858885885555885888888585858885885888858885858858888885858855858858858588858885888585 AM Of course there's not a human soul in sight.
8:58 AM Buildings scale left That one is bigger than Donnie speaks, I can't hear the xenomoths sleep
7:93 AM Toy soldiers off to war, hand puppets storm the beach lord of truth and lord of eternity, double being with beautiful face most comfortable with quill pen, but this will do This one won't last a week...
11:00 AM a voice speaks to me...The RAF’s main headquarters! It wasn't much of a walk after all. We're lucky we found it. Donnie and I are both resolved in this, we've got to clear things up. We'd rather not be stalked by big fucks with guns all through the country. We're just two kids!
11:01 AM Oh. It’s not the Royal Air Force. They’re called “Rise Against Fear.”
11:04 AM We demanded to speak with their manager. We got some funny looks, but someone did agree to speak with us. He’s a big man. Name’s Field Marshal Roosevelt. Says he’s related to Teddy. Military man. Not the cool kind, either; he’s the kind who’s really a big asshat about it.
11:05 AM He’s been staring at us for a while now from behind his dark and smoke-covered desk. Another person’s standing behind him, wearing a suit and hat. A man in black? man in black wearing face of white ..now Roosevelt’s looking at me. o_o “I know you. You’re the White Jester.“ What of it? “You were a terrorist, son. Nothing like us. Interacting with that plastic bitch, no matter what you tried, was a chicken-shit dumbass move. Kill her or die trying. That's the only way. That's a man's way.” >_< ..Donnie said something. Roosevelt asked her to say it again. “I said your man's way wouldn't even pass in a kindergarten. You'd get your arse handed to you by a five-year-old.” Roosevelt laughed. “Yeah, well, we don't really hang around little kids. Shouldn't even be talking to you two.” ..I really don’t like this guy. Donnie said “Is that by court order?” …fuck, this can’t end well. Roosevelt looks amused. “Okay, now you’re starting to get annoying. How about you hurry up and tell me what you want?” Well. Three guys, RAF guys, picked a fight with us. And we just want to clear things up. The Harlequin was some bad shit, back in Europe. I give you my word, we're not with her. We just want to survive. We plan on crossing the States, and we'd prefer to not think we're in trouble with the government while we do it. “Where are you trying to go, exactly?" Uh. Nebraska...? "Heh. Oh, sure. You can try. You have my word."
11:09 AM On the way out, I’m sure I heard Roosevelt say “Shoot the bastards next time you see ‘em.” Goddammit. do you want to see?
11111111111111111111:11 AM I wish that we can find somewhere to go that’s not this place. New York’s not my style.
11:13 AM I asked Donnie why she had to piss Roosevelt off like that. She said she didn’t say two words to the guy; I’m the one who did all the speaking. Are you kidding me?
11:15 AM We're going to the north. Donnie, why are we going to the north? "Well, if you're not gonna take the lead, I was at least listening when Roosevelt gave us directions." Directions??? "Yeah, to the.. y'know, the warehouse? The help?" ..what the hell, stop stop stop.
11:17 AM I showed her my journal. I showed her my transcription of the talk with Roosevelt. She says the talk happened almost completely differently. She said Roosevelt was a kind and respectful man who said he’d look into our problems, that he told us that the people in this warehouse up north can help us. And she said I did all the talking. I don’t remember that at all.
11:18 AM We’re gonna keep going north. We’re nearly there anyway. We’ll figure out what’s going on later. I trust Donnie on this.
12:34 PM do you want to SEE?This hospital smells too minty for my comfort. The doctor just came in. Says he’s a follower of the Beacon.
12:40 PM ..I’m not sure what’s going on anymore. I feel like I’ve been having unleaded Mind Screw fuel being pumped into my veins for the past two days.
12:42 PM The Beacon Follower dude tells me my friend is discussing things with the officials in the warehouse next door. She said I started going crazy before just passing out??
12:45 PM He said he knows exactly what happened to me. He said I ran into the Musicians. Says they’re another Fear. He doesn’t know what the hell they are or even do, really; he doesn’t think anyone does. But he knows that the people who run into them have hallucinations. God. Dammit. Gotta deal with that, then.
12:49 PM I think I can get up now.
12:55 PM I went down a long staircase. Either the Follower’s room was high up, or this warehouse is far down. Either way, it’s ominous as hell.
12:58 PM ..I turned around. Yeah, top of the staircase is right there. Motherfucking rabbit hole.Brick wall left and right. Brick wall in front and back. I’m closed in. ..now there’s suddenly a pathway right there. HOO, steam, I can feel that. Getting hot. Now it’s getting cooler, less humid. And brighter! ..there are pipes around me. This is some kind of corridor.
1:06 PM Found a ladder. Light’s shining from a hole it’s entering.
1:07 PM What is this White Metal walls Metal floor Metal ceiling But white Creepy place. Room over there, going.
1:08 PM ..oh hey! I’m in a warehouse. Donnie!!! With a bunch of smiling military men!
1:09 PM Military man shook my hand, introduced self as Thomas Ginger. He doesn’t look like a ginger. “I’ve been speaking with your colleague, Mister Dooling. I understand that three of our men attacked you folks unprovoked— rest assured we’re doing all we can to find out what happened there. In the meantime, I understand you need a briefing about the state of the world.” ...yeah, actually. That sounds good. “Welcome, Mister Dooling, to the new politics at the end of the world," he said with a wink. donnie "He's really dramatic."
"It's a big deal, young lady! We had something pretty good going on for a while-- not perfect, anyone will tell you that; liberal democracy wasn't the world we all dreamed of, but considering where we came from, and considering what our loudest competitors had to show for themselves, it was pretty good-- but we couldn't hold onto it for long once the sky turned red. Now, if it was just a different colored sky, and an epidemic of cat-spiders and other creepy-crawlies, I do actually think we'd be able to get ahold of it. Maybe have to deal with a surge in religious fundamentalists arguing that they have a stronger mandate to govern during the End Times, but, between you and me that's not a new threat to our government. We would have seen our way through. Caution tape over any new doorways, mandate a quarantine while containment teams patrolled for monsters... anyhow, you see what I mean. But it wasn't just that. Humanity met the Fears. Or, more properly, they introduced themselves to us. We didn't have a policy for this. These were entirely intelligent beings that had demonstrable power over us. They weren't as a whole willing to converse with us, but two in particular made an opening: The Archangel, and Salmacis." he looked at us to make sure we're paying attention. yeah, dude. we're rapt.
"Neither claimed to represent the others so much, but our own corroborations give us reason to believe their word. Of the two, Salmacis was the most forthcoming. She, or, they, or... they gave their name to us, 'as a means of representation,' and then began telling us about the other Fears. I think they're an outsider to the others? More willing to betray them. They claim, actually, that the Fears have always been here, and that perhaps they were, as a unit, responsible for some nuances of the balance of power that we've had trouble changing on our own? I'm hesitant to refer to this Salmacis as an 'ally,' and they saw fit to enforce that ambiguity a touch…" ....um… "I'm losing you. It's not important. I suppose all that amounts to is 'we have a source.'" Okay. So what about the other one, the Archangel?
"Him! Definitely not an ally. The Archangel is comfortable in the halls of power, and he has connections with the dead. We understand the walking dead are his doing, something he had always had the power to bring to the Earth but chose to reserve until a 'more appropriate time.' And, this being the red-sky end-times, he saw that as good enough. He also spoke freely on the other Fears, though more from the position of one who believed himself above them. We got a lot of names, descriptions of abilities, and a thorough sense of his personal evaluation of each of them. But unlike Salmacis, he told us this as an expression of power." Maybe Salmacis was also expressing power? "Hm? What?" I dunno. Literally just... guessing here, going with the information you've provided us. "Right. It's possible, and we've already got reports analyzing this all-- look, it's not important! I ask you not interrupt me unless I'm losing you." Sorry! Understood!
"The thing is, the Archangel behaved very.. familiarly to us. We recognized what he was going for. It is very convincing, the notion that he might have been on Earth for a long time. He's a power-hungry tyrant, a dictator by force. By contrast, Salmacis is hard to read. If they behave like anyone on Earth, they're a type that has never set foot in a place of power, and has only read about it. Very knowledgeable. Very much an outsider. Me, personally? I think that one's an alien, not from here at all." ...…uh-huh?
"...in any case, you see what I mean. We met the Fears. We were told of the shifting balance of power, transferring from humanity to the Fears. The Archangel treats this as a done deal, to the point that he doesn't view us as a threat at all. He didn't try to take over anything. To our knowledge, no Fear has established any colonies, installed any leadership, or even submitted any proposed bills." … "That one was a joke. C'mon. We're the Government." ...:) "Yeah. For all we know, they're only interested in chaos. Picking off stragglers, radicalizing individuals. Now, that will be a problem in the long-term, but we're.. keeping an eye on things." Right. donnie "The US has a smarter government than I expected." he's looking at her funny donnie "Oh, shit, sorry." "Oh, no no! No offense taken. It's just that I realized, you two don't know yet. Here, let me…" ..he’s showing us a big map of the world. Looks normal. “Bear with me for a moment; this map’s circa 2009.” He’s pointing at USA. “This? This is no longer the United States of America.” ..he put the map aside and underneath is a new map. It looks mostly the same, but there’s new labels and new boundaries everywhere.
“Over the last month and a half, the states have all seceded. They figured it was every man for himself, they jumped ship and are trying to adapt by themselves. The USA are now the DCA: the Divided Countries of America. It nearly went a different way, actually, but our miraculous President Obama in his last act managed to prevent it from being a North-South split. The new equillibrium, temporary though it could be, is based on the old one, but decentralized. What once were States are now Countries. No one nation here wants to change that just yet. Thank God. We want as many people fighting the Fears as we can get, not each other.” Huh. DCA. That's funny. "Hm?" Nah, it's literally nothing. Actually, I do have a question. Do you know what's going on with Europe? Where we came from? o: concerned look “It's nothing good, I'm afraid. You two are from the UK, correct? You made it out just in time, then, as the geography’s changing dramatically from what I hear. We can't even make an accurate map of it anymore; it changes from day to day." Shit. "As far as the continent goes, that's out of my expertise. Your own knowledge likely exceeds mine."
1:16 PM Mister Ginger’s taking us somewhere. Giant elevator. We’re going down.
1:19 PM Ginger’s talking. "Now, you don't have to agree to this, I want to be crystal clear, but I am authorized to make a proposition to the two of you." donnie "We're listening." "You know, no doubt, of the.. other universe." The rabbit holes! "That's a cute one. Not an uncommon name. Salmacis and the Archangel both referred to them as 'Doors,' a name which we find significant. Doors can be opened and closed. Doors allow transit between lived spaces, operative spaces, always constructed spaces. So the place on the other side must not be completely random…" Do you guys have a name for it? The place on the other side… "Yes, we call it Universe X." Ah. I guess that's about what I should expect. ..this elevator's taking a long time, just how far down are we going? ope we arrived. Sweet bananas and rice, that's... a giant Door.
1:21 PM This is a massive space. Like, an aircraft hangar. Under the city. I don't know if it was used for anything before the apocalypse, but now it's used to present this towering Door, which is held in place by large metal clamps attached to forklift-like equipment. Teams of people pass by, looking over clipboards, transporting large boxes, even janitors insistently mopping after each person. This is the most professional place I've seen on Earth. And it's all for that multidimensional portal... which is literally just, a giant wooden fucking door, with round doorknob that nobody can reach. Ginger "We'd like to propose that you go in there." o_o
1:25 PM You've.. sent others in, right? "Many times. They come back, don't worry. We have a good idea of the exact 'worlds' within vicinity of this portal. Uh, Door. We've been working to map it out." And is there something we can do that they can't? "That's the thing: No. But we found a library in there, some ways away from where this Door leads, and there's a figure in there who refuses to talk to us but specifically asks for you, by name." A library? Sorry, by name? I, uh… donnie "you did go to a library once in there…" I did, but... I mean, it's in Dimension X! It's a little overwhelming in there. I passed through the library once, I don't know if I can trust it. ginger "I understand your trepidation, Mister Dooling, truly I do. And as I said, we shan't force you in there. But, considering the likelihood of this whole situation-- we met this figure quite some time ago, and we didn't expect to find someone with your name just come walking in-- it was my duty to inform you, and it is my duty to recommend this COA." donnie "coa?" course of action donnie "you speak military?" metal gear solid donnie "what" I played metal gear solid when I was 3 years old donnie "that doesn't clarify anything" ginger "We will provide you with some amount of protection. Good suits. I can't promise we have anyone to send in with you. Would you like to.. sit down somewhere, talk this over amongst yourselves?" I would. ...I'd like to get away from that imposing Door...
1:34 PM Quiet room, side room. Table and chairs. Coffee. Ginger's stepped out for a bit, we're on our own. "I think we should do it. I mean, I feel like we ought to." I dunno… "Are you worried about the Nebraska thing? Don't be. It's literally nothing, like, I used to be online friends with someone who said he lived in Nebraska. And there's no reason to suppose he's still there. I'm in no rush. I'm with you. And there's someone in there who seems to know you." Yeah, that's what worries me! 'Cause I did meet someone in that library, but I did not know him. "Well, you'll be meeting him with me now. I think we're actually really good together." You do? "I do. It might be luck, to a degree, but then if it's luck then it's our combined luck. And you're good with that guitar thing." My weird, impossibly stable, Tiger Stripes… "And that ability of yours to talk. Nobody can stop you from talking. You stop only when it makes sense to. And that's kept us alive." kiss "Baby, you're impressive. I've never met anyone like you." aww... owo "And, like. Did you really think, if we don't go through this Door, we're never gonna go in any Door ever again? Do you think this is our chance to avoid this X place?" Well, no. Like, absolutely, that's sound, that's a point. "Then what? Talk to me." I have a feeling. Deep in my bones. "Yeah?" That we're gonna progress the apocalypse and bring Rapture just a little closer. silence "Well.. if going in this Door can do that, then doesn't that also mean that the secret to whatever Rapture is is behind that Door?" ...yeah. "Don't you want to know? What Rapture is?" What Rapture is… What is coming?
1:57 PM We're going. Mister Ginger and his team have provided a week's supply of food, some bullet-proof vests, helmets with rebreathers, and several multi-subject notebooks and good pens ("just in case"). A lot of the equipment is stored in a big box that we pull on wheels by a handle. Suiting up now.
2:10 PM There stands the Door, as big as a building, here in this underground space. Warning lights and alarms are sounding, and a woman with a megaphone is telling everyone to keep clear. "The Door is opening. Make way." I expected a creak, but it was more of a vast cracking sound as the Door slowly swung open on its hinges, pulled by the forklift machines. Like they were tearing open a wound in a giant wooden body... or a hidden chamber in an ancient tomb that hasn't seen living bodies in thousands of years… Inside is a beige wasteland, alien minerals blown out of the Door by an alien wind. We have some notes on what to expect. Just gotta... step through.
2:85858585858585858585855885858585885858585858588558585 88888888555555555 minutes have passed and we’re wandering in blackness. Night fell really fast here. It’s very quiet. I can hear only our footsteps as we walk over the sandy rocks.
858588585858555558585855558585585585855855585585585855 5888858 minutes have passed and and and Dark sky, vaguely purple. Rocks and badlands in all directions. And I can’t hear anything besides our repetitive footsteps.
855858585858585858585888588858858585858588885888858885858 We’ve found what look like sand cocoons dangling from a tree that is actually a rock. A faint hum can be heard from within. Donnie says we’re getting close.
85858585558585858858858555858858558858585558858858585588585 The moon is rising. This particular area is getting very rocky. As the moon rises, the ground gets harder to see. It’s like moonlight but.. well, the opposite! Moondark? No, that sounds stupid. Doesn’t this all? Donnie says it’s up ahead.
855858585855585885858585585855855585558555555585555558555555 The moon has risen. I cannot see anything around me. I can hear only our breathing. We have to hold hands now. It’s getting harder to walk. It feels like we’ve hit sludge. The sand is rising. We’re swimming in sand now. We’re swimming to the moon.
8555858558585858585885885858885885885885858585858858858 Swim to the moon. It’s much closer now.
85585858858858585858585588585858588858858855858858888 I can see. Millions of other drifters floating off to the sand sea. The moon is lowering. The sand is waving. Tidal waves of grit and dust form a crust on the drifters in front of us. The sand piles on the crust and forms density unseen. The cocoon sinks into the waves below, and now the moon descends upon us. 888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888
9:00 PM we are sliding down a very long slide it is red turn coming up to the right now we drop
9:01 PM Train of thought. Wait, no. We’re just on a train. The scenery is yellow. That one’s orange. KNOCKING that’s the door. We have a door.
9:02 PM It’s George Washington, the first president of the United States of America. Formerly united. He’s asking us to help him find his rifle, ‘cause the zombies are coming.
9:08 PM OH DEAR JOSH THEY’RE EVERYWHERE SHOOT THAT ONE NOW THAT ONE HIT THAT ONE IN THE FACE HIT THAT ONE IN THE FOOT NOW ITS FACE NO, THE OTHER FACE DON’T GIVE ME THE RIFLE WHAT IS THIS I DON’T EVEN KNOW HOW TO OH GOD DOUBLETAP DOUBLETAP THE DOUBLETAP DOESN’T WORK HERE OH MY GOD THEY JUST KEEP GETTING UP AND UP AND up and up and THEY’RE LEVITATING. I WAS NEVER BRIEFED FOR THIS! Open some fucking windows. Everybody strap in, I’m about to open som I got that backwards, didn’t I? OH MY GOD LIQUID IS POURING IN THROUGH THE WINDOW I JUST OPENED IT’S PURPLE It’s flammable. Okay, kids. It’s time for a little… liquid tension experiment. ..with.. acid rain and stuff. It’s a reference. ….just die, okay?
9:21 PM Really? Right into the next nightmare? Hello, hotel hell. Let’s just check in. I’m too tired to speak coherent sentinels.
9:28 PM I don’t expect to wake up in the same hotel, or even really alive at this rate, but I don’t care. Let me sleep. We’ll go deeper in the morning.
(Attached: "First things first, there are the gods. Our gods are rather human. Filled with regret, rage, and enough years of experience dealing with people that they can maneuver social situations as masters. Each one has their weaknesses, of course. The Harlequin has her naivety. Death has his pride. EAT has her mystery. And the Musicians have solipsism. There are two Musicians, not so much identities as they are poles of a field. They are extremely powerful at what they do, and my visits to the past let me verify that this has always been the case. They are so powerful, in fact, that they formed a bond with each other that has taken priority over all others. Each revolves around the other, each thinks primarily of the other, and this produces a wall of sound that makes other people look somehow less real. So what is it they do? The Musicians obfuscate.“)

Nice!! another of these games! ^-^ Let's see, let's see...
4.Where do you find inspiration for new ideas? pfff hahaha idk, random things. I see a post talking about a kink, next thing I know I really really want to write about that kink. Or a special pairing, or a funny situation... I also draw a lot of inspiration from other writers, that's how I end up with so many fics derivative from other works. There is something very challenging in trying to understand a character as written by another artist, and trying to follow the same train of thought...
8.Do you prefer the beginning, middle, or end of a story? I'm rubbish at endings (unless I have very clear what sort of last punch I want to throw) and as for beginnings sometimes I feel like I am unfocused or don't know if I'm dragging on a bit too much... Middles are my thing, then!
16.How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Share one of them? pah!! who knows, there are so many of my docs (numbered!! I don't learn) with random concepts or lines waiting to be remembered and developed... I'll have to disappoint you, though. Nothing worth reading in stock U_U
40.If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see? I would be downright melting if someone did artwork like that for me, never mind the fic or scene. whatever impacts them the most, or find the most beautiful. I personally like a lot the visual of Xiao Xingchen with a veil (Xie Lian style <3) so something like the scene from A Comedy of Yi City Errors when xue yang helps him down the stairs and can't take his eyes off him... or the other from Red Sun Rises, when Xiao Xingchen waits for Xue Yang in their room wearing the veiled hat and nothing else XD
55.Of the characters you write for, which is your favorite? Has that choice been swayed at all by your followers/readers’ reactions to certain ones? Xue yang will always be my favourite, my darling boy. I don't thing my way of writing him has changed much, but then again I haven't been writing for long either... Amongst OCs, my favourite is the stormcloud, that oversized toddler-brain natural disaster trying to rule over some ants ^w^
75.What scene in The Stromcloud took the longest to write? What was difficult about it? Speaking of!! I was very hesitant with the last chapter (I promise, more are to come... someday...) because it's the first one the boys get to explore each other. I wanted it to feel warranted and not rushed, but I was so impatient with it, so eventually it seemed like the story was a bit disjointed. It tends to happen to me with longer fics, that's why I admire you guys so much that you can pull it off (I don't have the patience!)
76.Did you have any ideas that didn’t make the final cut of Uber-confident? I considered adding a short epilogue with the aftermath, particularly how Song Lan felt about the whole thing and tried to report it but xiao xingchen was too ashamed and reluctant... but as you know, angst is not my forte, so I ended up scraping the whole idea and simply ending on a sharp note. If someone else wants to pick up the ball, feel free to do so! >/////<
Thanks for the ask game!! This was fun, I'm always so happy to share these little things and also learn more about you ^-^ <3

England
We are in England for some independent travel in Yorkshire and a historian-led tour of Hadrian's Wall.
We left Madison at about noon and flew to Chicago and then to London. Our flight arrived in London at 5:55 AM. We took a train into the city at Paddington Station, a taxi to Kings Cross Station, and a train to York. That all worked well, although it didn't need to as we arrived in York about 10 AM and couldn't get into our little apartment hotel until 2 PM. So after an overnight flight and Cathie being really tired, we were hanging out for over 4 hours. That's a really difficult time to arrive. It's way too early to check in for that night. If we had gotten a hotel in London we'd have checked in at 7 AM and had to check out at 11 AM. I guess we should have gotten the room in York for the night before too and paid over $200 for the 4 hours.
I will look closer at the arrival times on flights in the future and try to arrive at a reasonable hour. In Tunis I arrived at 1 AM and paid for that night, which seemed reasonable. But this was too late for an extra night to make sense and too early to check-in.
That day Cathie was wiped out and slept for the whole day. I got out and walked around a bit.
Our hotel was just a couple of blocks from the train station, which made it an easy walk with the bags to get there.
Between the station and the hotel was the old city wall. But it was only about a one-block detour to get through the wall. York decided in the early 1800's to preserve the walls for a pedestrian promenade. It was a great decision and it works well as a loop around the old town.
The wall near our hotel leads right down to the river with a view of York Minster the background.
Between the wall and our small hotel there is a large deluxe hotel we walk past all the time. How fancy is it? The topiary beside the front door is trimmed to match the doorman's top hat.
He and I agreed that it really needs a yellow band to match the one on his hat. I check the prices for The Grand. It's £400 and up per night. We have a very nice apartment for less than half that, although no doorman.
York is a very nice town. It's has a river running through it, which they put to good use, with riverside dining, riverboat tours, and parks.
The town is over 1,000 years old and so there is a wide range of building ages and styles.
One small street has some quite ancient buildings and is known as The Shambles. If you work at it and frame the buildings just right it can look like something out of Harry Potter, which the store owners have taken full advantage of. But I really wasn't interested enough to create an illusion.
Near The Shambles is a very short street with an unusual name.
Apparently it was originally spelled Whitnourwhatnourgate, which doesn't really help that much. There is debate about what it would mean, possibly "Neither One Thing Nor Another" or "What a Street" it only has three addresses on it # 1, # 1a, and # 1 1/2. Clearly theyv'e kept it around for the novelty. SPeaking of novelty, the shop at 1 1'2 is a Fantasy Gaming store.
When the Normans conquered this part of England they built many Abbys and several were in York. Of course when Henry VIII abolished all the monasteries in England. That left grand building complexes abandoned. Most of them are now in various stages of ruin. We will see several of these in our travel around the area. As elsewhere, abandoned stone buildings were recycled into everything from barns to castles.
Just across the river is Museum Park, a nice park along the river on the grounds of St. Mary's Abby. A part of the apse of the main chapel still stands in the park.
This park is only a third of a mile from our apartment, so it was an easy destination for Cathie.
It was also the location of our first splurge restaurant of the trip, The Starr in the City. A restaurant founded on local ingredients and local cuisine, but modernised and improved. The location was equally inspired. You enter through a tunnel in the old city walls.
Into a new glass and wood dining room in the park.
We had an excellent dinner, but one where we needed to look up many of the words on the menu. It seems that British food words are quite different than Americal ones. But it was a good meal. (I neglected to take food photos, sorry.)
Since most of the city walls are intact, the next morning I headed out to do a loop of the old city on the walls. It was a lovely walk of a little over 3 miles and had a good view of ancient and modern York.
Of course the old gates into the city were way too small even by the 1800's. What is pleasant to see is that rather than just blowing out that section of the wall they built new gates. They aren't much good for stopping attackers but they handle the traffic and maintain the spirit of the walls. Here you can see the original gatehouse in the center and later openings for pedestrian and vehicular traffic on either side.
Many of these gatehouses are now coffee shops, a nice break for a wall walk.
On the north side of town, the wall abuts the wealthier neighborhoods around York Minster.

Just Do It
Nov 26, 2023
Blog Post #1
Hello and welcome to my first ever blog post.
Yes, that’s right. This is my first ever blog post and you're in from the very start. 😉 Thank you and well done for finding me. You see, as this is my first attempt, I've just published online without sending to an email list, mentioning it to family and friends or promoting it on any of my social media platforms. So, for you to have found me really is some feat! 👏
Now that you are here, I hope not to disappoint. In fact, I hope the content in this, and future posts will keep you engaged and entertained for many months to come.
Why am I doing this?
Well, I think it boils down to the following three reasons:
1. The Urge.
I was originally drawn to posting on social media towards the end of 2010. Back then it was mainly Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. I set up accounts with all three platforms, both personal and business, but work kept me busy, and I never fully engaged with it. Around the same time, I read an article about a guy who had bought Bitcoin (I'm not sure, but I think he accepted the Bitcoin in exchange for a pizza) and now he was sitting on a small fortune. I remember speaking to my partner and suggesting we should consider taking a punt and make a small investment in this (at the time) little-known cryptocurrency. You guessed it - We never did! There’s a lot to be said for following your gut instinct.
2. Additional Income
Yes, it would be nice to generate an income along the way. You see, I have two adult children from my first marriage and a six year old daughter with my new partner. The financial implications of a divorce, a new mortgage and raising a family have all put my retirement planning on the back burner. I’m not sure when or if I will retire. I keep telling myself retirement is overrated. I do enjoy my work and the people I meet. I wouldn’t complain about continuing in my ‘day’ job, but life has a way of throwing things at you that can turn your life upside down at the drop of a hat. Any support along the way either by subscribing, clicking on my affiliate links or simply buying me a coffee would be very welcome. ☕
3. For Family
I’m 55 years of age and my youngest daughter is six. My parents were 20 years old when I was born. I’ve had 55 years of memories, advice and support from them and hopefully they’ll be many more years to come. I would be kidding myself if I thought my daughter and I would enjoy the same amount of time. I will be doing my best to stay around for as long as I can (I suppose that’s one of the reasons for listening to the book, Outlive by Peter Attia). I’m hoping this blog will provide an insight into who I am, my thoughts, my feelings, my life experiences and events along with a little bit of advice, wisdom and fun thrown into the mix. This isn’t just for my youngest daughter, but for my older children, my family and for you.
Why Now?
Back in September I took up an offer from Audible and since then I’ve bought three books:
Atomic Habits by James Clear - I enjoyed this book immensely. It emphasis’s how small consistent efforts over time can make a significant different.
Outlive by Peter Attia MD - I’ve been following Peter Attia online for some time now and was keen to read his book on longevity.
The 4-Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss. - This book always seems to pop up as a recommendation or mentioned in some podcast or internet search. I was therefore keen to find out what all the fuss was about.
I like reading and there is something comforting in picking up a book and flicking through the pages. Unfortunately, finding the time to sit down and read a few pages is easier said than done. This is where Audible came to the rescue. I can now download books and listen wherever and whenever I want. I listen when I’m driving, working at my desk or doing the washing up. I also like to listen when I go to bed, and the sleep function helps to find the point at which I fell asleep (which is usually within the first five minutes). 😂
More on the books and what I’ve learnt from them in future issues. However, before I made my decision on which books to buy, I had a look on YouTube to see if I could find any recommendations and reviews on what to buy. During my browsing I stumbled across Ali Abdaal’s YouTube channel and his Book Club videos. I listened to his reviews on Atomic Habits and The 4-Hour Work Week. I also watched his review on Someday is Today. A book by Matthew Dicks based around time management and productivity.
The book has several suggestions but these three in particular struck a chord with me:
The Parking Lot Practice - The emphasis here is that there rarely is the right environment and the perfect time to do what you want to do. He uses the example of been early for a dentist appointment; Rather than just sitting in his car in the parking lot killing time scrolling through his phone he used the time to continue working on his novel. He talks about how the soldiers managed to write letters and diaries in the trenches during the war. If you are waiting for the perfect time, the perfect place, the right environment then, at best you will have delayed starting, but at worst, it probably will never happen.
The 100 Year Old Plan - This is based on imagining you could ask your 100 year old self for advice. It’s a great way to think and consider, not just the immediate effect of your actions, but the longer lasting effect and to consider what really matters. Are you making the best use of your time right now or could it be better spent doing something more rewarding and fulfilling?
The Purposeful Approach - This is about getting things done that need to be done as quickly and efficiently as possible to allow yourselves the time to do the things that are most important to you. The things that truly matter, the things that are the most meaningful, satisfying and fulfilling.
It was whilst watching this video that it dawned on me how it was now 13 years since I first started thinking of writing a blog. I therefore decided I was going to start. I said to myself “I will start publishing in the New Year on Monday, 1st January 2024”. It seemed like a good date to start. I then realised I was still putting it off. Doing exactly what the books had specifically told me not to do. I therefore decided to bring the date forward to Friday, 1st December 2023. Although the newsletter was written, it seemed like a nice date to start, plus it would give me extra time to add more content, include images, add a few extra links and in general, perfect the publication. It wasn’t until this morning whilst walking my dog that I realised, I was still putting it off. I was still making excuses. I’d written the post, why was I waiting? Just Do It.
So here goes, I could have spent longer designing then redesigning, editing text after text after text or searching for image after image and I’m 100% certain there are plenty of other things I could and should have done. My blog will improve over time but for now, I’m sat writing these last few lines with a smile on my face knowing that Someday is Today and my online blog is up and running. 🎉
If you’ve got this far, then I hope some of what I have written will resonate with you too. Maybe there is something you have always wanted to do, a place to visit, a hobby to start, a phone call to make or an old friend to visit. Are you waiting for the perfect time? I’m not sure when the perfect time will be, but I do know that the best time is now - As the sports company slogan goes - Just Do It.
Until next time,
Phil

i love the idea of ghosts i like the idea of there being some kind of after life so that i can be with the people I've lost again and so i can watch after and not be far from the people i love who are living.
I like to think ghosts just are here waiting and watching able to go where ever they'd like because they don't need to breath or worry about catching on fire or something to just enjoy the afterlife with their friends n family, explore, learn from mistakes they made in life, fix relationships (also i want to go to the bottom of the ocean so bad)
but i don't really believe in them, i want them to be real but i cant help but feel like if ghosts are real then why are there so many crimes against the dead unsolved and why is there no justice for millions of people? I feel like my passed family would find ways to yell at me from the grave for my many flaws and sins (p.s.dont worry friend thank you for caring)
22. Movie you can't stop cheering up for?
alright friend ima introduce you to my most favorite movie it's called Journey to Beginning of Time by Karel Zeman my grandad had the VHS and i have LOVED it since i was three years old. I used to set up a blanket on the floor some chairs and a blanket on top to make a roof, staple some paper together to make "my diary" wear a goofy hat and pretend i was in the movie with the boys goin on they're adventure Its about a four boys who get on a boat and go back in time they each have their own personalities and adventures all of em but one of them have goofy hats! one of them wants to be a scientist so he documents all their findings in a diary theres a lot of great prehistoric critters someone almost gets eaten by a terror bird, someone fights a scary lizard thing i dont remember what it was supposed to be some kind of froggy newt thing it scared me depending on whether you watch the original czech version or the shitty English dub (my grandad had both my grandma grew up with the orignal so she likes that one better) you'll either see the big bang or the creation from the bible i grew up with the shitty english dub so i got weird hand creation ending and ima be honest i prefer that version but probs only because thats what i grew up on. I WISH TO GOD i could find it on dvd in the shitty english dub i grew up with SO MUCH i watched that VHS so much it died im pretty certain i had a crush on the youngest boy played by Vladimir Bejval his character caught a fish.. its a great movie if you get the chance to watch it but it's also like made in like the 50s so uuuuuuh keep that in mind but for the time it was made the special effects were brilliant. it makes me happy its like a warm bowl of soup but in film.

nope i was homeschooled
74.What's your dresscode? What makes you choose the clothes you're wearing? (on different occasions)
i really prefer skirts over dresses spef at knee length and i prefer no sleeves or short sleeves with just a sweater if it gets chilly. i like feelin fancy and cutesy.
77.Can you imagine something pretty romantic you would like your/a partner to do for you?
honest the most romantic thing i think someone can do is just to be there for each other that you want to experience life together even when life is incredibly shitty and not ideal at the moment but sticking through it with them anyhow because you want to experience life with them whem it's good or bad, being there the day their parents die, not ditching them if they lose their job being their cheerleader if they get cancer...just kinda knowin your a team that you've got their back n them your's and that you'll build a life together that makes you both happy through it all idk just bein there n lettin me be there for em in return? but idk im kinda shit at the romance tbh uuuuhhhh i appreciate it when someone sets time aside for me that means a lot to me more then they'll probably ever know
79.Is it risky to ask you whether you are a honest person or not?

**TRIGGER WARNING: A DISCUSSION OF SONGS THAT REFERENCE DRUG USE AND/OR SUICIDE**
How it started:
youtube
Master of Puppets by Metallica, from the album of the same name (1986)
A snippet of the lyrics:
Master of puppets, I'm pulling your strings Twisting your mind and smashing your dreams Blinded by me, you can't see a thing Just call my name 'cause I'll hear you scream Master, master Just call my name 'cause I'll hear you scream Master, master
Needlework the way, never you betray Life of death becoming clearer Pain monopoly, ritual misery Chop your breakfast on a mirror
Taste me, you will see More is all you need Dedicated to How I'm killing you
Come crawling faster (faster) Obey your master (master) Your life burns faster (faster) Obey your master, master
On March 3rd, it will be thirty seven freakin’ years that this album came out. Master of Puppets, along with their previous album, Ride the Lightning, was put on a tape for me by a guy in high school who was over the moon that a girl wanted to listen to Metallica. I did an English report on ‘Disposable Heroes’ and nearly blew the speakers of my boom box. My English teacher, Mr. Frank, was equally pleased and stunned. Play ‘Damage Inc.’ through a good pair of headphones (Sennheiser are highly recommended) and you’ll blow out your eardrums. It is 55 minutes of (I paused typing here, because I couldn’t think of the word)... power. It’s so good, they can afford to have an 8 and a half minute long instrumental on Side 2 and it works.
The reason I bring this up is because Metallica’s new album, 72 Seasons, comes out in April, and they’ve already released 2 songs. ‘Lux Æterna’ came out in November and 2 weeks ago, ‘Screaming Suicide’ was released.
How it’s going:
youtube
Here is a snippet of the lyrics:
Welcome to this life Born into the fight Here to claim your dream Look you in the eye Patch the broken sky Craving dopamine
Then my voice appears Teaching you of fears Are you good enough? You don't recognize Head is full of lies You should just give up
Listen well, better listen well Listen well, better listen well
Don't ever speak my name Remember you're to blame Keep me inside Keep me inside My name is suicide
I’m not going to get into a breakdown of it from a technical standpoint- I’m not a musician, though I will tell you that constant high hat made me want to smash something (not in a good way). But let me talk about it as someone who just heard it 10 minutes ago.
This is trash.
Though the opening isn’t any longer than any song on Master of Puppets (which has anywhere between 60 and 90 second openings), it feels like it goes on for-fucking-ever. Probably because the guitar sounds like I put too many pennies on my record needle to stop it from skipping. (.1% of my followers will get that reference.) That guitar is slogging through the notes. This song clocks in at 5:30. For reference, ‘Master of Puppets’ is almost exactly 3 minutes longer but it feels like both songs are the same length. James Hetfield has gone from
Needlework the way, never you betray Life of death becoming clearer Pain monopoly, ritual misery Chop your breakfast on a mirror
(This is about drugs, in case the ‘chop your breakfast on a mirror’ metaphor isn’t familiar.)
to
Then my voice appears Teaching you of fears Are you good enough? You don't recognize Head is full of lies You should just give up
(I’d tell you this song is about suicide, but, well, it’s pretty fucking obvious, isn’t it? But just in case you weren’t sure, Metallica put it in the title for you.)
Pedestrian, shitty rhyming schemes that are just words put together to get the listener to the chorus. I won’t even complain about rhyming ‘enough’ with ‘up’, jfc. Or the gem that is ‘teaching you of fears’. No nuance. No imagery or metaphor. Just, you know, ‘My name is suicide’. (So subtle!!)
@thenicecheese said this is what it sounds like if you asked ChatGPT to create a Metallica song, and you won’t get a more accurate description than that.
Tragic.

First half is a flashback.
“Why don’t you eat, child?” The wolf asked. He had been standing next to you all day waiting for you to eat something out of your plate.
It had fruit and some nuts in it, you looked warn out but for some reason you didn’t touch a thing. Prohaps you still didn’t trust them yet, which is understandable but you were going to die if this went on any longer.
“It is not poisons I assure you that much” still no response from you, just a shallow and lifeless expression on your face.
The wolf was about to give up, then he noticed how you kept your gaze at the plumps of your hands. They were covered in cuts and swollen in some fingers from infections, you were lucky they found you early before or they could have rotted and you would be forced to cut them off.
“Why were they chasing you?” The wolf says, you blinked slowly bringing your hands up to your face.
“Her” you said “they wanted her”
The wolf studied your expression, now turning gloomy and sad.
“The fairy you were protecting?” You nodded slowly.
“She was my friend…my only friend” he remembers how the fairy was barely breathing when they found, unfortunately though they couldn’t do much since she was severely injured, so she was dead by the time they got you both to safety.
He hadn’t seen but heard you cry alone at night after they told you about her death.
“….my name is Lu the old wolf, what’s yours?” Your eyes met his and you thought to yourself, what would be the point of telling your name, they will try to use you for something at one point too, it’s a matter of time.
“Kid what’s your name?” You sighed letting your hands drop to your lap once more.
“I was not given a birth name….the fairies called me y/n though”
The wolf smiled and put his paws on your lap “hello y/n you have a lovely name, let’s be friends. Me and you” what an odd request you remember thinking of it at that time.
“You can’t go out like this” said the blonde.
“Why not?” You said.
The man sighed, avoiding looking at your wardrobe falling apart “we can’t have you walking around half nude” nudity…it was the first time somebody had ever mentioned it in a negative way. “I’ll see what I can give you” you waited on the bed, looking down at your bare legs, you didn’t notice it before but hair started growing there.
“Here, I cut those off and from now on you’re a boy whenever we go out, understood?” You nodded slowly, taking the new pair of clothes you were given.
It wasn’t much, a brown pair of pants that were cut short and a belt, there was a matching gray top and a hat as well.
“Thank you sir…” you said.
He shook his head “my name is joon, and from now on I’m your big brother ok?” A brother, like family. That word was foreign to you, you never had family let alone siblings.
Before going out he sat you down on a chair in front of a mirror and started cutting your long dirty locks, that was probably the most relief you’ve had in ages, all that hair was getting in the way of moving and you had no idea how to get rid of it.
“Stay close kid” said Lu. You followed behind joon in silence with Lu by yourself, the more you walked into the woods the more you could see a small village inside it. There were many people, all shapes and colors going on by with their day, some laughing and others busy selling their goods. It was the most peaceful you’ve seen semi humans live as, you never understood how the human race worked, how one second they can skin you alive then go on with their days like nothing happened.
“Kid…” you heard.
“Yes Lu?”
“Who’s Lu?”
Oh…
You opened your eyes, finding tony standing above you with a confused look on his face. You were dreaming.
“Tony…what happened?” You said.
“The shewolf attacked you” oh right that happened.
“Where’s everyone?”
“Well bruce…” oh shit right Bruce hulked out last minute. “Is he ok!?” Tony rubbed the back of his neck nervously “he is but the wolf not much…”
You immediately tried to stand up but Tony pushed you down on the bed “no! You’re too weak and we can’t have you faint twice in a day” before you could protest against him the door opened and Bucky along with Loki and Natasha walked in.
“Finally you’re up” said Natasha.
Loki was the first to be by your side, putting his hand on your forehead “your temperature is fine but we need to talk about what you were saying while you were out” you blinked at them in confession. “Was I talking in my sleep?”
Bucky nodded “quite a bit, and before you fainted you screamed a name, an unfamiliar one” you didn’t like sharing your past with others but seemed that you’ll have to now, for the sake of everyone at least.
“Ok I’ll tell you guys everything, when the others are here too”

okay so on one level i can appreciate that Casualty has Paula's baby taken in the same episode that Robyn finds out she's pregnant, especially with that moment on the two benches, with Dylan representing Paula's desire to keep her child, and Robyn so obviously not wanting to be pregnant...
but god, just once i'd like to see a character get pregnant, decide to abort, and be done with it. not every pregnancy on tv needs to be a drawn-out drama where the only inevitable option is keeping it!

a really big part of me wants this kid to open the door to the roof - obviously, because i’ve spent seven episodes getting attached to this group, you can’t let them die now!
but then there’s another part of me that still vividly remembers being a 6-10 year old girl getting the shit kicked out of me on a regular basis, while the other students just laughed and let it happen.
would i have opened the door?

My #1 post of 2022
so my family’s got the funeral on (they’re not royalists), and while i’m not watching the ceremony, i did catch bits of the procession to the abbey. and i just...
look. i knew it was gonna be ridiculous. but i didn’t expect it to feel unsettling on two different fronts.
first there’s the obscene wealth and pageantry of the crown. ordinary people had their funerals cancelled today, out of ~respect~, and all i can think about is how much time and money those people had to pay in the middle of a cost of living crisis, that will now have to be done again because of rescheduling. there are people who might not be able to attend those rescheduled funerals because they could only get time off work/school for the original date. all of these ordinary people having to make time for logistics in the midst of their grieving. meanwhile, one family gets to take precedence over everyone else, on an unimaginable scale.
it’s insane to me how many people there were for the queen’s procession. not people attending the funeral, just people following the coffin to the doors. and all of these servicemen looking like robots, everything in perfect sync, from their steps to the goddamn removal of their hats.
but then there’s also the frequent close-up shots of the coffin. and it’s like. don’t get me wrong. i have no sympathy for the woman who was an active participant in the colonialist horrors that this country inflicted on the rest of the world.
but there’s something deeply grotesque to me about her funeral being a televised spectacle. especially with how many close-ups there are of the crown on top of the coffin. really hammers home, quite unintentionally, how utterly unnatural it is to elevate one family over everyone else. millions of people stamped down, and the people at the top are reduced to symbolic objects. whichever way you look at it, humanity loses.

The View From The Fire Escape. (2/3)
Bucky Barnes x gn!reader
Words: 2.4k
Warnings: fluff, sexual situation 18+, and ANGST BABY, and sorry.
Part 1 // Part 3
The sun beamed through your bedroom window shortly after you fell asleep, peeking it’s rays passed your makeshift curtains. You tossed and turned all morning as thoughts of Bucky ran through your head.
You’d seen him from afar almost every night since he moved in. At first he was shy, only ducking his head out for air every now and then. Eventually, though, you asked him to stick around, have a beer with you. He declined the offer the first couple of times, but one night he was out there before you as if he were waiting for you.
Since then, you were his late night remedy after another terrible nightmare. Some nights you would be too tired to set out and talk. Those nights were the worst for Bucky.
You helped him think of other things, helped him take his mind off of his past if only for a short time. So when you weren’t out there he had nothing but time to sit alone and think. Think of all the things he’s done, all the horrors of his past. His victims' faces flashing to life as he relives every moment. When you didn’t save him from himself, he could never go back to sleep. He was always too scared and frightened at what his mind would make him relive if he closed his eyes, again.
But sometimes, after you talk for a while, he would dream of you. Even though he’d only seen you from across the way as well, in his dreams he was touching your soft skin. He could still hear you giggling but this time in his ear as he kissed down your neck. Those dreams he cherished. You were the only positive thing his unconscious mind would grant him and he was okay with that.
//
Your alarm went off at 10am, giving you just enough time to shower, do your hair and get dressed. The weather outside was beautiful; clear skies and sunny. You dressed for summer for the first time in over a year. It didn’t take long for 11am to hit as you found yourself rushing around your apartment, scrambling to find your keys and wallet. Instead of putting your shoes on, you grabbed them and rushed out the door;
Locking the door from the inside.
You were late. Only by five minutes, but Bucky began to panic. You were the first person he was seeing that wasn’t part of him trying to ‘make amends’. He liked you and that was a lot for him to process already. You were the first person who was genuinely nice to him since the blip. He didn’t want to screw this up.
When you were six minutes late, the heavy breathing kicked in. As if he wasn’t nervous enough, now he’s sure you weren’t coming. He scratches his head in defeat and begins to walk away.
Before he could get too far, though, you come barreling out the door,
“Bucky? Bucky, oh my god. I’m so sorry.” You say out of breath. “One minute I was getting ready and the next my favorite song came on so I got a little lost and then- BAM” you shout, making Bucky jump in surprise. He could tell you were nervous too, just from the rambling. You rambled a lot when you were nervous. He found it cute.
“It was 10:55. I’m so sorry. I hope you weren’t down here long.”
“No just-“ He looks at the watch on his right wrist, “about ten minutes. I was early.” He states, clearing his throat.
Once you caught your breath reality set in. Here he was. He was even more beautiful up close. But it was really just his face you could admire, the rest of him was covered from his neck to his toes in dark clothing.
“You know it’s, like, eighty degrees out, right?” You giggle, looking his attire over.
He sighed, “Ah.. yeah, I’ll be fine. This actually keeps me cool.” He lied.
“Really? Your black leather jacket with matching gloves keeps you cool?”
He shakes his head, smirking down at you, “Ya know, you’re way more annoying in this proximity. I think I’m just gonna-“ He laughs, pointing to his apartment.
“Shut up.” You say shoving his left shoulder. Your palm landed on his covered metal arm and Bucky grabbed your wrist gently before lowering it back to your side.
“So what’s the plan today?” He asks, trying to cut through the awkwardness he’d brought between the two of you.
“Well, first I’ll put my shoes on, and then I thought we’d go to the square. There’s some sort of event going on. I thought it’d be more fun to walk around rather than sit and talk.” You shrug.
You were awkward but confident in your own way. It’s like you embraced the awkwardness and Bucky loved that about you. To his surprise, but not really that surprising, you were more awkward in person. But also so beautiful. More beautiful than he’d dreamed. The skin that peaked through your clothing appeared soft. He wanted to reach out and touch you, but at the same time didn’t want to rush anything. Bucky was old fashioned in many ways and dating was one.
You beamed this sort of natural glow under your shy demeanor. Bucky smiled, “We can do whatever you want, after I help you with your shoes.”
“Oh.. you don’t have ta- waaa” Bucky helped you balance as he held your foot over his knee, placing the shoe on each foot, then double knotting your laces. “He can tie shoes too. God, is there anything you can’t do?” You giggle.
Bucky groans like an old man as stood back on his feet, “whistle.” He grins.
“You’re lying.”
“Yeah, I am.” He laughs, nudging your shoulder. “Come on.”
You smile up at him when he holds his right arm out to you. Your arm links with his as he walks you around the busy Brooklyn sidewalk.
//
The square was packed. Kids running around you and Bucky with every other step, it feels like. You watch as he held back a smile when a sweet little girl ran up and gave him a flower.
“Oh, is this for me?” He asked, kneeling down to her eye level. She nods, “Thank you, Doll. I’ll keep it til the petals fall off, how’s that sound?” He smiled as she giggled and ran away.
“And he’s good with kids.” You note aloud again.
“Kids are much easier to talk to than adults.” He smirked.
Bucky held onto the flower the entire time. It made your heart melt a little more each time you caught him twirling it between his fingers. He was simple. Even the smallest act of kindness went a long way with him.
You moved from booth to booth, shop to shop, trying on hats that made Bucky grin and ate the greased food Bucky's ever consumed. He watched as you talked to the small business owners littering the square just hoping for people to buy from their booth. He notices the crinkles by your eye when you laugh. He’d never seen such beauty in one smile. You were kind, understanding and patient with him and that’s exactly what he needed.
You never asked about his arm and he was so grateful for that. When he came out shirtless the first time he didn’t know you were there. His breath hitched in his throat when he saw you waving over to him. He expected all the usual questions, but you never asked one.
Even today you grabbed it to drag him to another booth and you didn’t even flinch. This put Bucky at ease. You're the first person to hold his hand in years. It’s silly but it means more to him than you’ll ever know.
“What do you think of these?” You ask, trying on a pair of sunglasses.
“I like the other ones.” He points to the other pair in your hand.
“Hmm, okay. Just these then.” You pay for the sunglasses and walk back the way you came as the event was ending.
“Did you have fun?” Bucky asked, hesitantly moving his hand closer to yours.
“I had a great time, Buck. You’re good company.” His heart lurched at the complement. He stretched his pinky out towards the back of your palm, running it open and down your soft skin before you got the hint and took his hand into yours. You both wore smiles the whole way back.
The walk home was pretty quiet. You’d gotten a little more comfortable and rested your head against his leather covered metal arm, sighing as your feet began to ache.
“Thanks for hanging out with me.” You say once you arrived at your building.
“Thanks for inviting me.” He gave you a shy smile.
It was still midday and you were positive you’d be too tired to sit out tonight. In all honesty you weren’t quite ready to say goodbye just yet. You cleared your throat, trying to think of a way to get him upstairs without sounding too desperate.
“I’d love to put that pretty flower in a vase for you,” it wasn’t a great excuse but you gotta work with what you got.
“Are you trying to steal my flower?” He scoffed jokingly.
“Of course not I-“
“The audacity..”
“Shut up,” you giggle. “I’m just trying to get you upstairs, okay?” The air around you thickens. Did you really just say that? I thought we were going for not too desperate.
“I don’t think that’s-“
“It's okay, Bucky. I just wasn’t ready to say goodbye, is all.” The frown you wore made his heart sink. Has he upset you now?
“You know, I’m not really ready to say goodbye either.” He grins down at you. A soft sigh of relief comes from you and you smile, taking his hand into yours again and dragging him upstairs.
Once you opened the door, you kicked yourself for not cleaning up. It wasn’t too bad just empty beer bottles on your coffee table and an open pizza box.
“Sorry it’s so messy.” You apologize, picking things up on your way to the kitchen. “Would you like a plum?”
“No thanks. I have a bad history with plums.” Bucky says. You hum in understanding even though you were totally confused. But that is also going into the ill-talk-about-it-when-I-want-to-talk-about-it file.
Are the nightmares plum related? Anyways.
Bucky followed you to the kitchen and watched as you ate the plum. The juices of the plum stained your lips and even ran down your chin. Bucky was drooling over you. So beautiful and sexy and you’re just eating a plum. He hadn’t realized his mouth was hanging open as he watched you, but you did.
You smiled shyly, “Would you like a bite?” You asked, pulling Bucky from his trance.
He smirked, “Out of you or the plum?”
Your cheeks flushed as you swollen the remnants of the plum and the lump that now sat in your throat. “That’s entirely up to you, Buck.”
He smiled. He was a little nervous to go too far with you but he couldn’t stand it any longer. It’d been so long since someone noticed him the way you do and watching those juices drip down your chin did him in. He needed you just as bad as you wanted him.
He walked up to you slowly, taking the plum from you and biting into it. The juices now glossed his lips as well as he whispered, “how about both?”
A whimper fell from your lips, making Bucky lose all sense of control. Letting the plum slip from his fingertips, he cupped your face with his hands before smashing his lips to yours. He absentmindedly raised you to your tiptoes, so entranced with your taste. He could taste the plum on your breath and somehow that tasted even sweeter than taking a bite straight from the plum itself.
Bucky was drunk for the first time in decades and he didn’t need alcohol to do it; he just needed you. You were the elixir he’d been searching for all this time. He needed you as much as he needed oxygen to breathe.
You moaned into his mouth as he lifted you into his arms and carried you to your room as if he’d done it a million times before.
Your head hit the mattress as he laid you down. He groaned into your mouth, rubbing himself against you. “Bucky..” you whimpered once his lips trailed to your neck.
This was something you never thought would happen but you wouldn’t trade it for anything. You wanted all of him; his touch, his affection, his past, his secrets he’d never even tell his closest friend, his bad days, his good days, everything. You were overwhelmed with him, his cologne taking over your sense and his tender touches sending you into a frenzy.
Once he got to your chest, you sat up and flipped him over, pinning his hands above his head as you did so. You began to trail kisses down his neck now and undid his jacket.
Bucky winced when you pinned him down. He felt a panic attack approaching and he did everything he could to stop it. He tried to steady his breathing but with the way you were kissing him, that was never going to happen. He started counting to ten slowly in his head, but nothing he did could stop this attack from coming on. Flashbacks of being chained to gurneys and beds hit him like a ton of bricks.
“Oh god-“ he cried, making you stop and look up at him.
“Bucky-? Are you okay?”
He couldn’t hear you through the pounding in his ears and the noises of them working on his arm that were etched into his memories.
“Stop-“ he cried out, more to himself than you.
“Bucky what’s wrong? Did I do something?” You asked worried but also a little frightened.
“Get off of me..” He whimpered.
“Bucky?”
“I said get off of me.” Bucky through you to the floor as he sat up. Tears streamed down his face now. The panic attack was in full swing and he didn’t know what to do. All he knew was that he had to get out of here.
“I’m so sorry, y/n. I really am.” He apologized just before running down the hall and out of your apartment.
Bucky left you confused, hurt and now frightened. Your body ached from being thrown to the floor.
All you knew was, the man you came into the apartment with wasn’t the same one who left.

DNP Rewatch: A Day in the Life of Dan and Phil in London!
Date video was published: 08/27/2013 (X)
DNP Main Channel Rewatch: 192
The second Day in the Life video, after the original back in March of 2012!
0:00 - filming this on 8/21, so several days before it gets posted
0:15 - well I’m glad Phil still has feet, lol
0:22 - still can’t believe they just filmed out their window at the first London flat (from a privacy for themselves perspective)
0:26 - the builders and the drills had already started at this point! how did they deal with that for 3.5 more years?!
0:35 - the wirrow art is still down off the wall behind Dan’s bed from when it fell all the way back in June when he was filming Ironic Appreciation
1:00 - Dan’s little smile 😭
1:04 - the caricature from Phil & Dan in NEW YORK!
1:09 - they had just been to Summer in the City a couple weeks ahead of this
1:15 - “this is very important to my happiness” some subtle messaging there with the rainbow from Phil?
1:17 - god every Dan smile in the video when he looks at Phil. I can’t. 🥺
1:27 - I love that they’re watching Bake Off.
1:56 - Phil sticking the little cat sticker to Dan’s arm is one of my favorite moments in this video
2:25 - pretty Phil eyes
2:26 - nice transition! Also, who do they have a photo of in their bathroom window?!
2:36 - Dan’s discovery of the cat sticker on the piano! I love this clip. (There’s a Twilight sticker there too, lol.)
2:39 - Phil looks so proud of himself and I love Dan’s “It did not improve it.”
2:49 - Phil did tweet that they were filming this on that day.
3:09 - more Dan smiles and Phil’s absolute hatred of the leather shirt from the very start!
3:16 - the wardrobe contrast moment is great
4:15 - more drills!
4:24 - Dan making Phil take them to the counter and talk to people while he just randomly films in the shop 😂
4:48 - for awkward people who don’t like going outside, they seem to be surprisingly comfortable filming and talking to the camera in public spaces
4:59 - guessing that scares Dan because of his falling-up-the-escalator incident
5:12 - Dan deciding that this was definitely worth filming and then them leaving it in. Fantastic.
6:00 - I’m with Dan here...it’s just ads, lol
6:26 - going to a nerdy shop just like in the first DITL video!
6:34 - “and then we could act out one of those fan fictions I read with a tentacle. Do you reckon they sell tentacles?” DAN. 👀 (and yet Dan is the one that will end up in the schoolgirl costume...)
7:03 - I love the editing with the slow-motion of the guy in the background who noticed the camera
7:23 - Phil caught spinning on the stool is adorable
7:46 - Phil singing! His singing voice is always so much deeper than I expect.
7:56 - Phil doesn’t like the main feature of bubble tea apparently? Why would you get it if you don’t like the tapioca?
8:14 - “it’s a giant blue cock” 😂
8:30 - Dan tells Phil to stop filming children and then immediately films children, hahaha
8:39 - I love Dan just shouting encouragement at Phil during this part and the dramatic background music
9:10 - I’ve always thought Phil says “new clothes for a wedding” here, but now I think he’s actually saying “new clothes for READING” (like, for Reading Festival, which they attend to do stuff for Radio 1 just a few days after this). That makes so much more sense!
9:25 - this is hilarious; all of Phil’s clothes at this point really were from Topman, huh?
9:34 - okay, Dan looks kinda good in this hat. Fight me.
9:41 - the space coat! And of course Dan thinks Phil looks good in it. 🥺
9:52 - the completely synchronous “oh my god”
10:06 - lol, because DNP also have a giant One Direction poster...in their bathroom.
10:17 - “that’s where I try to do magic” alright, Chris is funny!
10:25 - you can tell they’re not as comfortable; they are much quieter filming in the pub then anywhere else in public that they were in this video.
10:33 - of course the raspberry beer is “so Phil”. Always with the sweet things. 😊
10:40 - I can’t believe he didn’t notice the sticker all day!
10:57 - Phil’s “did we pay you” and Chris saying “not enough” 😂
11:08 - just making up a little song together about the hallway, of course
11:22 - so many cute photos from Playlist! They had attended that all the way back in March.
12:15 - them cooking together gets me every time 😭😭
12:22 - Dan just can’t keep a straight face after Phil giggles
12:29 - Phil seal and Dan whale! They had been in their kitchen all the way back in Halloween Baking: Brownie Graveyard! (So many DNP objects around their house all the time. So many.)
12:38 - cooking together and making up little songs about it! Like, they just do that. (And I love that Phil is still wearing the sombrero.
12:51 - the whole cooking and dinner scene is probably my favorite section of this video
13:07 - this word art conversation is so random and yet I can totally see them discussing stuff like that all the time.
13:32 - this is adorable. Also, Phil fights like such a little brother.
13:45 - I really love that in the DITL we see that DNP each spend some time to themselves too. I relate so much to that and needing quiet time for just me.
13:55 - Dan piano playing, my beloved.
14:17 - got to have the joint conclusion!
I love this video. It’s so hard for me to choose my favorite DITL - they’re all great.
Like I mentioned, a few days after this was filmed but before it was published, DNP went to Reading festival for Radio 1. Dan was particularly excited because that’s the festival he attended a lot as a teenager (1, 2, 3).
