Y'all ready for this?
3D Camera
I've got some nifty new updates coming! I have been experimenting with the ren'py 3D stage and it was far easier than I thought it would be. It allowed me to do some camera effects that I'd wanted to try but hadn't been able to make smooth enough with just ATL on the sprites or backgrounds.
I also figured out how to use Flatten so that the ATL doesn't show the characters naked when dissolving 🥲
Lots of new coding revelations! I will not be posting a new demo update anytime soon I think, but this is the sort of polish that I'm aiming at for the final version.
Falcon Punch
Betel now has a sprite! Along with the elusive Andromeda falcon. I hope that this will make it clearer which falcon is being talked about when--as long as let you get more attached to your little buddy! Your falcon can have a blue or red chest.
NSFW?
I have added a choice at the beginning that will let people toggle NSFW on or off, so that people don't miss this option when just starting the game.
Sahi's Route
Aalam's route is in full beta testing now, and I'm on to Sahi's route! I've finished the route proper as well as the good and bad ends, and I'm currently editing the best end! I hope to finish within the next few days and move on to Lune's route.
The second draft of the entire game very well maybe completed and tested by the end of the year, or close to it!
The third draft will be all about polish, copyediting, and of course, implementing tester feedback on the routes, adding things people may have felt were missing, etc.
In the meantime the other artists are still working on the additional backgrounds and CGs of course, so there's still a long way to go!
Min Art
I've always planned to draw the start screen myself, and while I like the current picture it was more of a temporary solution. I've been working on a new start screen! It's about 2/3 done.
Additional Min art will include additional sprite outfits, crowns for Sahi and Lune if they're made King of Lauté, and I've decided I will go ahead and do horseback sprites, as I've made such good time with the writing and should have plenty of time while the other artists are finishing up the art.
Ko-Fi
Follow my Ko-fi shop!
I've been slowly adding the Celestial Crowns merch to Ko-Fi! Right now you can get the stickers from the last Kickstarter campaign and two new wallpapers that are incidentally part of the new start screen.
Kickstarter rewards
I'm still waiting to hear back from Kickstarter about the pledges going through. In the meantime, love letters are being recorded, and I streamed the first three scenes of Aalam's route. I'll be recording a clean copy to send to backers once pledges have been processed!
Pinups
You can follow me on twitch (harlevinvns) to see me draw the rest of the pinups live. We're currently working on Leo's.
Conclusion
All is well on the development end. Thanks everyone for joining me on this journey 💖

reveal your watch and rewatch drama list
@yeo-rims tagged me, and the state of what I’m currently watching is kind of shameful, but I was in the mood for some ritual humiliation!
watching:
Severance! I’m four eps in and loving loving loving the creepy atmosphere and of course the anti-capitalism! I also just love how fucking weird everything is, the way that every time the severed characters start talking about Lumon or the handbook or the other departments it’s so stilted and formal (I’m thinking especially of Zach Cherry’s character comparing the different departments and his summary of MDR is something like “we’re loyal and true” like they’re fucking knights of the round table or something).
Kongen Befaler! I’m on the currently airing season, finally, except for I’m really sad about it, because soon I’ll be completely caught up. This show is so fun; I really do think the Taskmaster format is tough to fuck up, but I love seeing how different productions put their spin on it; Olli as the super-sexy assistant with contempt for everybody except Atle, whom he humors, is such a fun twist. Also the casts have been genuinely delightful and the fact that apparently there are absolutely no workplace safety standards in Norway is troubling, but it does give us a ton of incredible tasks revolving around fire.
Magnificent Century: Kösem! My reaction to this show is basically identical to my reaction to the original: it’s great when it’s women scheming and backstabbing, it’s soporific when it’s men talking about politics (I skip all those scenes), and I love a complicated romance, but I frankly don’t think there’s anything complicated about Kösem living and dying for Ahmed and him promising that he loves her too and then constantly fucking other women and yelling at her when she gets hurt. That’s not complicated, that’s a man sucking. And frankly, I wish they would let Kösem be more pragmatic about her life and her relationship with him because hanging it all on love is impossible to buy when he doesn’t act like he loves her! (It’s even more frustrating that they also pulled this shit with Suleiman in the original, which was actually much worse, because historical Suleiman basically was monogamous once he got serious about Hürrem. I sat through that once, I really am not enjoying round 2, which is why I’m looking forward to Ahmed dying). Also, I’m watching the Russian dub, so whenever I watch it I can justify it as work.
Joy of Life... I’m about halfway through, I’m basically enjoying it, but I haven’t watched in a few weeks, I just don’t feel anything compelling me to go back to it. I don’t plan on dropping it just yet, but I may if I don’t find a desire to return.
Someday or One Day.... I watched the first episode, and thought it was not bad, but it really didn’t grab me. The only reason I haven’t dropped is that I know the plot hasn’t properly started yet, but it’s the show’s job to make me care about getting to that point!
plan to watch:
That upcoming sageuk with Jang Hyuk, Lee Joon, and Kang Han Na... Red something? I miss sageuks!
My Liberation Diary? Is that the title? It’s from the writer of My Ajusshi, I can’t resist, plus Kim Ji Won!
Our Blues. I don’t like omnibuses but I like No Hee Kyung and I can’t deny I’m really looking forward to seeing Kim Woo Bin in a drama again.
What else..... Maybe Pachinko? I’m reading the book right now though so it might be a while. And I legit can’t think of any other shows. I mean, Taskmaster when it comes back, of course. Any other sageuks anyone feels like making... Oh yeah, isn’t Joo Won doing one?!?!! Another Joseon prohibition drama, though, right after Yoo Seung Ho and Hyeri. The way you know that I have taken leave of my reason when it comes to Joo Won is that I plan to watch his next drama even though his last drama was Alice.
rewatching:
....I’m rewatching s6 of Taskmaster along with the official podcast. I don’t know what to tell you, that show gives me joy like nothing else. Sometimes all you want in life is to watch a man try to fill a condom with whipped cream.
not tagging anyone, but please do it if you want!
#...okay i'm watching more than i thought i was#but the fact that i'm being so bad about dramas is really breaking my heart#somebody make a drama that grabs me by the guts please!#real life

PEOPLE GOTTA KNOW WHEN ITS THERE TIME
PEOPLE GOTTA KNOW WHEN ITS THERE TIME
If you haven’t heard the following name I’m about to mention, you must be under a rock next to Patrick Star. Yeah you know who I’m talking about, that boy Pooh Shiesty! Wooo that boy know he on fire. The latest star discovered by ATL legend, Gucci Mane, Memphis rapper Pooh Shiesty been building a hell of a buzz leading up to his debut project, Shiesty Season. His album was number one on Apple Music before it was even released! Only 21 years, Pooh Shiesty is setting a path of greatness for himself as the next great southern rapper.
Pooh Shiesty is receiving all the attention he deserves but some people may disagree. Recently, Pooh Shiesty posted a young lady’s tweet that suggested Gucci Mane was showing favoritism towards Pooh Shiesty and was being neglectful to his other shining signee, Foogiano. Which brings me to my point, people gotta know when its there time!
When someone has the hot hand you have to feed them! Just like when a shooter is on a streak in basketball, you have to keep feeding him until he’s no longer hot. People particularly fans have to understand a little bit more how a successful label works, especially while someone like Gucci Mane is at the helm.
Every artist has a marketing plan. That plan includes but isn’t limited to: building buzz for the music, when it will be released, how it will be released, the finances needed to pull off the project successfully, etc.
When it comes to Pooh Shiesty, simply put its just divine timing. He’s been killing it, I knew the boy was the one when I first heard “Who is Him” a track by him and Gucci Mane. “1017 choppa gang we don’t do no attempts, hop out and slam him with this choppa like I’m shawn kemp”, when I first heard that I knew he was outta here. Pooh had great performances on both So Icy compilations plus the loosies with BIG30, he had all the buzz he needed that would make his project number one before its even released.
Guwop isn’t showing favoritism he’s putting wind behind an artist that’s been ready for takeoff. Gucci gifting Pooh Shiesty with a trackhawk Jeep (super fire btw) is just a manifestation of a reward for hardwork. Then to make this young lady’s point even more asinine, Foogiano currently has Pooh Shiesty’s project as his avi.
When someone in the crew is on fire, it is an obligation for everyone to get behind that person full throttle! If someone feels a way about a crew member getting shine, that person is effectively known as a HAM!!!
To bring things more locally, take me and my family for example. Right now my cousin, 2Real Codee, is scorching right now. A lot of our family does music, if any one of us felt a type of way about the shine my cousin is receiving then we would be effectively known as…..HAMS!!! Good thing we’re not, we’re doing the exact opposite, putting all of our energy behind cuz to help elevate him and keep his foot on the neck. That energy is reciprocated when its time for any of us to drop. When I dropped LONG MAY HE REIGN, it had the upmost support, its my most successful project yet. And anytime my cuz (WAV) is rising in. the ranks of producers we elevate and promote him. Whenever my brother drop we will be behind him as well.
So everybody gotta chill and quit being lames trying to cause dissension between successful crews. Showing love is not automatically favoritism its just appreciation that is well deserved.

ATLitty Atlanta, GA 08/06/2020
Ayyyeeee what's good world! Long time no hear from! It's been awhile since I sat down long enough to actually Write something for you all. Where in the world have I ended up now, you may ask? This time I headed south of the border to what some might say is the current staple state of hip-hop Atlanta Georgia! Having never actually hung out in the ATL besides at the airport, it was time I officially introduced myself to the infamous A-Town. Starting from the beginning of my travels the situation was set up as an AirBnb in East Atlanta, to host a few of my LEO friends and family.
(SideNote) It baffles me how so many people with the same zodiac sign can actually hang together!?
I then arrived at "Atlanta Hartsfield–Jackson International Airport'' fresh off finishing up a Philly trip only to find that I was too early to check into the AirBnb!? With nobody else arriving until hours later I grabbed my bags, requested an UBER and headed downtown for that huge Ferris Wheel in the distance. Before anything else though I just had to eat something coming off of a 2 hour flight, so I ended up at a lil place called (Breakfast Club Atlanta)!? During these tremulous times During the Covid Pandemic of 2020 the black owned restaurant did its very best to provide a social distanced approach of customer service, with the waiting for tables seating customers outside the restaurant. But not without some form of entertainment!? I mean we are in the ATL! So cue the outdoor DJ and let the Vibes Begin!
(SideNote) Ain't Gonna lie, "Breakfast Club Atlanta '' might serve the BEST Chicken and Waffles in America…
After exchanging pleasantries with my beautiful waiter, I finished my meal, left a good tip and then dipped. Off to explore that Ferris wheel I saw back at Centennial Olympic Park! Closed off due to public health safety, it sucked that I couldn't explore such a beautiful park on such a beautiful day. So I had to settle for just admiring the park from beyond the barrier. Grabbing a few shots I was then off to "Skyline Atlanta" Ferris wheel!
(SideNote) What's a trip without taking to the Air!? Had to appease the Ascended LIBRA in me!
While most people I know aren't too fond of heights, being suspended in the Air makes me feel like I'm just that much closer to my ancestors. After a little self-reflection It was finally time to check into the AirBnb! My big cousin Kita was actually 1 of the Leo's we were celebrating that weekend along with other Lionesses Moochie and Ms.Monique from DC! So we planned to link up by then...and let's just say, me trying to explain what happened next in a blog wouldn't do it any justice! I could show you better than I could ever tell you! Check out the VLOG on what happens next!
Until we get up again shawty...stay up ATL
P.S I just wanted to give a special shout out to Malik and Monique, From Philly to DC thanks for showing us Love. God Bless and Stay all the way UP. 💪🏾👑🤞🏾
Sincerly, Tyquill W.

I would LOVE to see your re-did personal refernce album lists for right now and overall. fall out boy slaps and 5sos is lucky they rank as highly for both of us bc fall out boy is just. the best
oh boy you asked and I sure do like talking about my opinions on music so
First of all let’s talk about the three that show up in both lists, just to get that out of the way:
These three albums will just always be my favorites, at any given moment. I could listen to them at almost any time
Youngblood by 5sos: I love this album so much, and I cannot for the life of me figure out why. Nothing about it particularly stands out, but I listen to it all the time and it’s so so so good. I love the vocal performance (except for a few instances where I really wish Luke enunciated a bit more), I love the instrumental performance, and I do feel like it’s a relatively cohesive album as far as vibe goes. They picked the correct colors for it, and even the songs that I’m not a huge fan of I feel still contribute well to the album as a whole.
Save Rock and Roll by Fall Out Boy: Fall Out Boy is and always will be my favorite band. This is a very nostalgic album for me, because it’s the album that got me in to Fall Out Boy, but it’s just got some absolute killer songs, and I like how it starts with “The Phoenix” and ends with “Save Rock and Roll” (with an ELTON JOHN FEATURE like....... it blows my mind). I feel like I’m coming home every time I listen to Fall Out Boy but most especially with this album.
Infinity on High by Fall Out Boy: again, I just love FOB a bonkers amount, and I think objectively this is one of their best albums. There is not one song on here that I would skip. It gets bonus points for “You’re Crashing, But You’re No Wave” which is their most underrated song, and all of the other ones are equally as good. It feels cohesive while each song remains unique.
Now on to the list for my best albums of all time:
The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance: I genuinely believe that this album is objectively the best album of the 2000s. MCR is full of really, really talented musicians, and every time I listen to this album I find some little musical riff or tidbit that I’m discovering for the first time. The underlying theme of death and regret is unique and they do so much with it!!! Songs are interesting and not repetitive, while still being catchy. The energy of the album is insane, and it carries almost all the way through without any dips or duds. Lyrical content is 10/10, musical content is 10/10, entire album is amazing.
Night Visions by Imagine Dragons: when I was in like 9th grade this album would not leave my CD player I would just come home and go up to my room and turn on the CD as I do my homework. So this one also has a lot of nostalgia, but tbh Imagine Dragons is just a great band and this is just a great album. Can’t pinpoint why but it’s just the truth.
California 37 by Train: this one also is a very nostalgic album, because I used to be a super super big fan of Train, but tbh this album is one of my go-to albums for washing dishes or when I’m in the car with my family and they won’t let me play one of my current favorites. It’s funky! The songs are nice! “Drive By” and “When the Fog Rolls In” are genuinely two really good songs in my opinion, and “Mermaid” and “50 Ways to Say Goodbye” are so fun!!!
Collide With the Sky by Pierce the Veil: This is a very cathartic album. it’s got some great songs on it, it feels cohesive, that darling you’ll be okay in “Hold On ‘Till May” feels like a sigh of relief after the journey of the album and the emotion and screaming
honorable mention: I almost put Harry Styles by Harry Styles instead of Collide With the Sky, because it’s also a killer album. The running theme of longing for communication is ace, I love how gentle it is and then how there are some bangers on it, and it felt like such a genuine, authentic album.
Now on to my best albums of right now:
Neotheater by AJR: As far as albums go, this is such a great example of how albums are meant to be made, which is absolutely delightful for me because I think a lot of people have lost the art of the album. Like, in order to get the full experience you have to listen to the full thing, specifically in order, because the songs each sample each other and then you get the full journey from “Next Up Forever” to “Finale” (and the fact that those are the bookends and they all drop the name of the album and they have the choir in them I could talk about those two songs for hours probably!!!!). The theme of fear of growing up and you get the transition from being afraid of it to looking forward and feeling ready for what comes!!!!! as a senior in college I relate so hard. unfortunately sometimes some of the songs don’t hit right at all times, which is why this one is not on my top 7 of all time list :(
Wake Up, Sunshine by All Time Low: this is the perfect album for where ATL is at right now. The music is a skillful blend of their old sound and new musical developments, the songs are all so fun, it feels mature while still being authentic, do not get me started on Basement Noise I WILL cry that is a threat! “Trouble Is” is one of their best songs like there’s genius behind that!!! And not to be divisive but “Pretty Venom (Interlude)” is my favorite off the album and I approve of where it is placed on the album. I think it’s a nice little breath and break within the high energy of the rest of the album so you can recharge for the rest of it, and I think “Monsters” leads right into it thematically. They really outdid themselves with this album.
Folklore by Taylor Swift: this is just a Mood a Vibe she really did something here! her lyrics are very good, I love how important the idea of stories are to this album and how each song is a snapshot of a different story (or a different perspective). it’s a really pleasant listen
Punisher by Phoebe Bridgers: I am going to be honest this was just me throwing a dart at a few things I’ve recently listened to, and there are a lot of other albums that could go in this spot. However, I have been listening to songs off of Punisher a lot lately and it’s got me feeling some type of way, like no one will ever fully understand me yet Phoebe does.
honorable mentions: as I said, lots of albums could have been #7 right now, so I’m giving a shout out to Future Hearts by All Time Low, the Hadestown Original Broadway Cast Recording, Boreas by the Oh Hellos (even though that’s just an EP).
I did this while talking on the phone to my family so it may not be as coherent as I would have liked but here are the lists and some explanations
#ask#pixiegrl#thank you for giving me an excuse to post them#because I was going to do so anyway but I feel better knowing at least 1 person wouldn't have found it annoying

Day 1 (&1/2) January 28-30, 2020. Atlanta to Christchurch, NZ. 10,646 miles.
This new year (and the new decade) starts a motorcycle journey for me which involved planning a trip to circumnavigate the entirety of New Zealand's South Island. Made more popular with tourists over the last decades through the spectacular cinematography brought to us by native Kiwi Peter Jackson and his Lord of the Rings and also the Hobbit trilogies which were largely filmed on location here. The majestic scenery I witnessed through these films certainly helped plant a seed that this land was one I would try to explore if possible and so a year ago, around the time of my South African adventure 👇👇👇, I began planning a ride focusing on the lesser populated and visually stunning South Island.
https://www.google.com/search?q=south%20island%20new%20zealand
One interesting fact that stuck in my head since I was a youth was that New Zealand has more sheep than people. Back then it turns out the ratio was something like 20:1. In the decades since the ratio has decreased but still remains an impressive seven sheep for every person in New Zealand! 🐑 🐑 One of my Aussie mates indicated that they were interested to do a similar ride around the Island and earlier in 2019 I was planning on joining their crew. However it turned out that they were planning a shorter journey for less than two weeks so I proceeded to contact a rental agency regarding a bike and to chart a route. The bike rental agency was very helpful in making suggestions regarding a route and even some lodging. Around August of last year I had gained the interest of a fellow Ducatisti and recently retired pilot Ted and by September we were actively booking lodging and securing flight reservation for a the two of us to make our way to the other side of the world and explore for ourselves on two wheels.
My Aussie buds also made me aware of the Southern Hemisphere's largest bike rally, the Burt Monro Challenge Rally. Yes, he's the guy portrayed by Sir Anthony Hopkins in the 2005 film "The World's Fastest Indian". It is slated to occur in Invercargill next week 2/6-2/10. I will plan on meeting my friend Andy there with his crew and enjoy the events which will serve as a few days interlude amidst our ride. This journey began with a Marta (transit train) ride to ATL then three flights totaling about 30 hours through LAX and then BNE (Brisbane, AUS) before jumping back over to Christchurch, the only city to speak of on the South Island. The flights were all at least :30 early to their destination which erased any slight concern with regards to making connections for us and/or checked luggage. There was one surprise that was significant and nearly derailed me en route. Upon check-in in ATL at the international desk I presented my bag and ID and let it be known I was checking in to the first leg of the journey to Christchurch. I was then asked where is Christchurch? She then checked my bags through to CHC but only gave me the first of theee boarding passes. I figured that was due to the latter legs being on Virgin Australia, no problem. After landing in LA and wandering around the very nicely appointed international terminal B for a while I moseyed over to the gate to get my boarding passes about a half hour before boarding. The gate agent said, I was calling your name over the PA system, however I was further down the terminal and hadn't heard any of that. So, it turns out that I booked the flight by early September and I had checked to see if a visa was required to visit NZ. At that time it was not needed. Well, as of October 1, 2019 they instituted a visa requirement and I was unaware. Now I had about twenty minutes to board the flight to BNE and the agent said they were not able to issue a boarding pass if I didn't have a NZ visa. Ugh! She said a website was available to secure a visa online but that it could take ten minutes, or up to theee days to receive it... I was sweating at this point and I head to the chairs to get busy. They have an app, which she recommended I use. I failed in successive attempts to scan the passport info as it kept saying "try to avoid reflection" and I was unable to proceed despite relocating to various lighting options in the terminal area. Tick tock... I then just went to their website directly and manually entered in the passport data. Paid my $47 fee and prayed a bit. Within three minutes I had received confirmation emails of receipt and then thankfully the email with my visa number and confirmation! Luckily, just in time to board and the rest of the trip went without a hitch. With the recent spate of coronavirus, lots of airport workers and many Asian travelers were wearing masks. It seems this newly discovered virus is spreading rapidly and was making its impact felt on concerned travelers.
On the route into CHC, we came over the NW coast of the South Island, then cruises while descending over the central mountains which largely run the length of the spine of the island which displayed glaciers, good looking peaks and rivers visible between the puffy whites. On the east side of the mountains the green we saw were irrigation circles as the mountains wring our most of the moisture blowing eastward. A lot of private horse racing tracks we well and then just before the airport a good sized racing facility off to our left which via Google map's reckoning looks to be Mike Pero Motorsport Park Ruapuna. Passport control was all automated (we could learn a thing or two here) and then a quick scan of the bags to make sure no food or other contraband was within. NZ is appropriately protective of their island from invasive species and are very thorough to ensure these don't make it through customs. I then got some NZ dollars (currently worth about $0.66 each) and hopped a cab for Merivale, where I had reserved a three bedroom apartment for the next couple nights. Three floors, our own laundry (already used!) and a nice set up for a protracted stay in this city. Having had a row or three seats to myself from LA to Brisbane I actually got some sleep and after checking in we headed off to explore the city. We had celebratory arrival beer at the Carlton, just down the road and then walked about four miles through a picture perfect afternoon and evening. Taking in the scope of the botanical gardens with various flower gardens (rose, hydrangea, bulbs/flowers) a impressive array of monstrous and varied trees, all surrounded by the idyllic crystal clear Avon river (more like a large stream), massive fields where I got a few tosses of the frisbee in with an ultimate team warming up for a match, tennis courts, swimming pool, and lots of folks running on a perfect 72° summer day. The botanical gardens sit amidst this very large Hagley Park sort of like a Central Park for CHC. 9 years ago 185 people were killed here in an earthquake that caused widespread damage to many of the historic building in the central business district. Some are still held up by trusses awaiting reconstruction. Some are still sitting condemned. But they have poured a lot of money into restoring this area and it seems vital and there were lots of events and people on a Thursday night. There was a busking festival, various art shows, we also passed a production of Treasure Island just beginning on a Hagley Park stage. This is peak season down here due to the summer temps and drier weather. Now we explore a bit more and get our bikes following a sound sleep. Off we go! 🏍

I don’t think many people dream of growing up and living in the same city their entire life. Not being able to see different things outside their own world and limiting their world view. Unfortunately it happens, maybe far too often to count. I hoped and prayed that would never happen to me; as I got older and began to travel a bit more I began to realize how much I love the area I’m in, how much I love the Greater Philadelphia area. However, I promised myself that there are a few cities in the US that I MUST travel to and get a feel for, for when I eventually do leave the area that raised me (inevitable due to future career wants). One of those cities was Atlanta Georgia, and what better reason to go to the state where the players play, and people ride out like everyday, than to go to Momocon and celebrate a special birthday with some friends.
The crew that was riding with me were My homie Mike (aka the Wizard Tribble), his girlfriend Gabe (Director, Producer, and 1 half of the horror podcast “The Ghouls Next Door) and my girlfriend Kat (Producer and the other half of “The Ghouls Next Door). We flew in early Friday morning and hit the ground running when we landed in Atlanta. Things moved quickly in the airport. It was wide open, thoroughly organized with no real confusion, which I was not used to from the Philadelphia airport where pigeons would just sit and claim their spot to a seat right beside you in the airport. There was also this air of safety that honestly rubbed my Philadelphian grit in an odd way but I was very appreciative it was noticed. First time in a new city, the first thing anyone wants is some confirmation of safety.
Once we stepped outside, leaving the comfort of the ATL airport that safeguarded us with AC, we were blessed by the loving and excessive sun. Back home in PA the weather consistently flip flops, unsure of what season it wants to be throughout the day let alone the week. Here in Georgia though, in the city of Atlanta, it was bright and sunny all day and week long with a high of 95 and low of about 63 at night. It felt wonderful knowing that there was going to be a steady weather condition to prepare for. The sun was kissing my skin, invoking the power of my melanin–while burning some of my friends. They enjoyed it all the same luckily.
We arrived early to ATL, early enough to call a ride to the nearby diner to get some good southern breakfast in our systems. From the airport to the diner it felt like we were being taken on a small ATL tour. Passing by us was beautiful scenery, birds chirping, healthy, luscious green trees–adding a perfect amount of nature to the populated urban jungle. The letters GT were everywhere for Georgia Tech. A university that seemed to just keep expanding its territory wherever we roamed. The architecture of the city was sleek, not overly futuristic but reminiscent of Philly. It was modern with some buildings taking a design chance on aesthetics; adding in solar panels, wide open glass roof structures, inverted and curved buildings, the chances taken weren’t over the top and did just enough to stand out. Definitely caught my eye.
We finally arrived at a diner close to where we stayed—Silver Skillet Diner, a place that has hosted the likes of Samuel L. Jackson, and Dave Chappelle to name a few. It’s here that my friends and I are able to take Atlanta in more and notice that yep, this may not be Texas but things sure are thiccer (Yes with 2 C’s) down here in the south. We ordered our meals, with everyone of us making sure to get a bowl of grits–mine as a side to my chicken and waffles. Which, were so crispy yet tender. Only made better by the soft waffles and the sticky sweet syrup to combo it all together perfectly. We finish up and pay our bill. Finally we head to our Airbnb.
We get there and are blown away at the place. Nice balcony, modern furniture with a TV in every room, kitchen is dope and has a beautiful island for us to eat at and lean on. The bathrooms are HUGE and the bedrooms are perfectly fitted for 2. To top it off we had access to a summer lounge area that led to a nice pool and fitness center. Place was so good we had to take a instagram video of it. We were in prime location. Downtown Atlanta, right next to the expressway, walking distance from markets and other restaurants, clothing chains and if we didn’t want to walk we could scooter around wherever we wanted to. Yes, I said scooter around. Not like kick push scooter but motorized. Rideshare companies like Lyft & Uber have motorized scooters you can take by going through the same process as you would by ordering a driver except it’s cheaper and you scan a QRcode to activate the scooter. When you’re finished using it, you hop off, pay and just leave it. Drivers come around later in the day and pick up said scooters and recharge them for later use. It was the strangest but coolest thing to see. Definitely had too much fun bending coroners whipping the scooters like I was in rocket power.
After unpacking and taking more IG photos of our Airbnb, it was time to hit the scene and check out the hype around Momocon. What started out as just a “pick up my badge and go” operation turned into a full storm of fun and adventure. When we arrived at Momocon we took it like any other convention and didn’t pay it much attention, the jaded-ness of being a frequent convention goer showing. That is until we got our badges. We got them, so finally we had access to everything the convention had to offer. We rushed the escalators and slid down the rails to do so again until we reached the convention floor. The choices laid out before were the vendors alley, or the gaming hall. We chose the gaming hall for day one.
A concert of echoing laser sounds, dance taps, sirens, alarms, and winning shouts filled the floor and us with it, enveloped in its energy joined the fray. Game after game we played. Putting our bid to even win some the next day. New friends were made, cosplays were stellar, and I got to chill with one of my favorite Pokémon–Blastoise.
We caught wind of a very rare concert happening that night. One my close friend and I have been dying to see. It was the Bytes & Beats Nujabes Tribute concert featuring the NPC Collective, Richie Branson, Asheru, And our favorites–Substantial and Shing02. If you know anything about great anime then you know about Samurai Champloo. An anime that still stylistically, artistically, and musically, holds up and stands the test of time. Those who watched Samurai Champloo leave with a spirit of hypeness and angsty rebellion. That is if they’re the Mugen type. Those like myself who align more like Jin, feel the counter balance energy of flow. The subtle and instinctual vibrations of being in one's element–just riding the current. One of the biggest things to enjoy about Samurai Champloo is its music. Samurai Champloo had a lot of its music crafted by a Japanese DJ named Nujabes. In my eyes, Nujabes is a god among DJ’s. Shoot, a whole generation of young adults and older can thank him for all the music that inspired if not created the genre of chill-hop & lo-fi.
It was the type of music that could soothe the savage beast, could bring you to this place of perfect concentration like you took the limitless pill. The Beats Nujabes crafted was the type of music that makes you think of the perfect weekend drive by sunset cruising the city blocks or mountain roads or the plains of the countryside–windows down with your one arm doing the free flowing roller coaster motion. That feel good–I’m alive vibe. Then topped with the lyrical stylings of artists like Substantial and Shing02, enhanced everything passed the stratosphere and takes the listener to this otherworldly plain of profound worldly views and humbleness. Even with the uptempo joints it felt like every artist that blessed the track, and Nujabes blessing the beat, it just spoke humble confidence. In short, Nujabes was that dude!
Nujabes collaborated with many artists, but the two that he collaborated with and stood out the most were Substantial and Shing02. He worked on joint albums with both (that are historic for chill-hop culture and must listens) but it was with Shing02 specifically that the two together blessed anime fans worldwide as they collaborated on the intro theme song to Samurai Champloo–Battle Cry. A song so enigmatic that just the utterance of its name begins to make my head bop in rhythmic hip hop fashion. Needless to say, we were going to that damn concert!
It was Friday night, we were in Atlanta, we were looking fly, it’s our first time ever at Momocon and quite possibly our first and only time at this Nujabes tribute concert. We were gonna make sure we had a great fucking time. We did everything possible to make sure we got up close and personal to the stage. I may have stuff-armed a person or two….We made sure to take in all the ambience and to not miss a single beat nor lyric felt or heard. We expected greatness and would be damned if we didn’t have a chance to bear witness to it up close and personal.
The concert began and we were taken to a land of hip hop joy, geek excellence, and a dream fulfilled. The concert started at 11pm and didn’t end till about 3am. For those who waited and held out to the very end like my friends and I were treated to a very special rendition of Battle Cry. A new version with verses from every artist that graced the stage prior, and instrumental solos. This shit was absolutely BONKERS and I LOVED every single moment of it. I’ll add, it was made even better that after the show, the artists came out and interacted with the fans. A humble group of men for sure.
Friday was a blockbuster hit in our books. What happened on Saturday though put everything over the top.
Saturday was special. It was Kat’s birthday and all of us were doing our first ever group cosplay. We decided a while back that we’d do the teen titans in casual attire. This was based off the popular artwork of Gabriel Picolo. So, for me that meant I got to embody a character that I along with many others believe I emulate–Cyborg. I dawned the cybernetic blue and steel grey and white face paint, put on a DC Comics Cyborg shirt to rep him even harder, and topped it off with a colorful playstation jacket. Your man was looking fresh out here. To round out our cast of titans was Kat as Raven, Mike as Robin/Nightwing and Gabe as Starfire. Our rule was if we see a Beast Boy, we adopt him for a family photo; and sure enough we did.
We bursted into Momocon towards the backend of a DC vs Marvel Photoshoot. We got a couple pictures taken there then dispersed to get our own in front of the Momocon banner. That’s when it began to happen. It started off quietly by a singular person, then it built into a loud murmur from everyone I see, then it finally erupts into a loud “DOPE COSPLAY CYBORG” from groups of people. Wherever we went I was getting noticed, our team and group cosplay was getting noticed. I don’t think we ever knew it would become such a big deal. I know I didn’t at the time until it was pointed out to me that, every teen titans cosplay done by a group is ALWAYS lacking a Cyborg; everyone but ours. It was a moment that really struck home for me. It began to make more sense as the day progressed. Little kids were coming up to me saying “BOOYAH!” and singing the teen titans theme song. People loved us, they wanted our pictures, put us in videos, stopped what they were doing just to chat with us. It was major. It without a shadow of a doubt drove home the message to me that representation matters. I know some out there will say it’s not super important but after Momocon, after seeing little black boys and girls smile with joy and sing teen titans with me, after they get excited by the utterance of the word booyah by another black character, that families start showing me off to their kid cosplayers and other adult cosplayers of color pause everything because they NEED to take a photo with you...you just can’t ignore how important that is. To be able to see yourself as a hero. To see oneself as greater than for once, when most of–if not all of society says you can only fit into these certain boxes. To see someone else that looks like you in a positive light; that’s all it takes to break a negative cycle, that’s all it takes to create another hero. For a small moment in time, I was inspiring to those around me; and I hope that the sliver of inspiration that I sparked stays ignited in those I met. I know it surely will with me.
But I digress.
Beyond the massive success of our group cosplay, beyond the elation and fun had for Kat’s birthday, the icing on the cake was being able to meet a famous cosplayer by the name of KieraPlease. This was after an intense dance dance revolution session in which I sat and recorded video and got exhausted looking at everyone else go. It was pure happenstance, which resulted into pure happiness when we finally met. I don’t get starstruck often but I must say, words failed me for our brief interaction. I saw her, saw my friends, and shot my shot at a possible chat and photo opportunity for us all. I took the shot and it went in (KOBE!!). After the picture she hugged us all and had a nice conversation with the Ghouls (Kat & Gabe) which I’m sure made their day if the hug didn’t already. It’s great to note that as a team, we have this cosplay thing down well. When a pro says you got it, you freaking got it! More so, it was better to finally meet someone your used to seeing on a cellphone or laptop screen. A living breathing tangible person, who quite honestly is living her best life fully and truly can be looked at as a symbol of positivity; a role model even. Just like that, day two was in the books.
So, I think I brought you along far enough on my experience in ATL. Detailing 2 key days. Now let me change things up on you a bit and give you my overall thoughts of Atlanta and Momocon as a whole.
Atlanta itself is a hotbed of culture. On the weekend we went, that weekend alone had a bevy of major events happening all weekend long. There was Momocon, Caribbean festival and parade, a food festival, and Stone Mountain fireworks and light show to name a few. As one of our lyft drivers said, ATL is a hotbed of culture because it is made up of a lot of different cultures and people from around the US. Atlanta has its own swagger but it is the culmination of others that has shaped the way it is today. Atlanta is a Transplant City. Many people are moving to Atlanta because of the opportunities that present itself. From music, TV, movies, overall entertainment and broadcasting, the warm weather, the great food, the architecture, the various modes of transportation (ONE TIME FOR THE SCOOTERS), the cheaper housing, and generally you get more out of your earned dollar; why people move there makes sense. And like all major cities Atlanta has its issues, shoot the state of Georgia alone is a bit problematic depending on where you slide politically. But my time spent there will be one for the history books. It’s definitely a place worth traveling to again. Next time I go, I’ll be sure to do more exploring. I didn’t get a chance to travel the halls of Cartoon Network (IF ANYONE ONE IN THE HR DEPARTMENT IS READING THIS, HIRE ME PLEASE) so that’s reason enough for me to go back. That and I didn’t get to try some of Hattie B’s Nashville hot chicken or the slutty vegan sandwich. There’s always next time though.
As for Momocon….IN-FREAKING-CREDIBLE! Momocon has that extra something. That nudge to taking it up one more notch to make it great. No, it is not as big as DragonCon and maybe it won’t get the same recognition or acclaim but Momocon is a phenomenal con. Momocon brought me back to 2014, when I first started going to conventions. My first one at the time was Otakon and to this day I don’t think any other con will hold as special of a spot in my heart as Otakon. But Momocon, Momocon was dangerously close to taking that spot. Which lets me know and hopefully you, the reader, now that it’s just that damn good! The crowd size of the convention is comparable to say the Greater Philadelphia comic con. Meaning there’s a large crowd and over a thousand things to do but you never have to fear about missing out on something. You can and will get to everything you want if you have patience. The event staff from security to the PR and press team were absolutely amazing. All were easy to talk to and informative, helpful and never overbearing. What truly made Momocon as great as it is in my eyes, is that it at its core it remained an anime and gaming convention. It wasn’t a comic convention with anime sections, it was an anime and gaming convention that accepted comic lovers just as much as it did its anime and gaming fans. Anime and gaming is my bread and butter, it’s what got me into this geeky, blerd, pop-culture world I exist in currently. Momocon stayed true to that core value. The sheer fact they had Substantial and Shing02 performing live in concert said more than enough for me. Momocon you are in fact, a real one.
Atlanta….I’ll be back in the future. Whether that be for work or pleasure, or hell maybe to be a transplant myself and live there. All this kid from the burbs of Philly has to say left is…
Peace up, A-Town down.
Much love,
– Isaiah Luck aka Broku

hey! thanks for visiting my blog.
i’m jade, i’m 20 years old and i live in south wales in the uk. my pronouns are she/her and i am bisexual. i’m single.
i love music, writing, body modification, bdsm, gaming, tv shows, genealogy, true crime and rugby. my favourite music genre is pop-punk and my favourite band is all time low. i love atl to death, they have helped me so much and saved my life. their music means the fucking world to me and i can’t even express just how much i love them. i own multiple copies of their CDs, DVDs and vinyls, and a shit ton of merch. i have seen them 9 times and met them 3 times. they’ve also noticed me a bunch of times and some of the guys have started recognising me at this point which is really cool. i’ve loved them for nearly 7 years and they are such an integral part of my personality and life at this point, it’s unreal. <3 if you’re friends with me, you’re gonna hear about atl every single day and you need to accept that.
other than pop-punk, i love all different genres and have a very varied music taste. some artists other than atl that i love are simple creatures, busted, lights, little mix, mcfly, the maine, marianas trench, jojo, ed sheeran, demi lovato, breathe carolina, cupcakke and hayley kiyoko.
i write songs, play guitar, bass and drums, sing, read music and am experienced in in-studio and live sound engineering. music is my life, it’s what i live and breathe. i currently work in events staff, helping put on concerts and rugby matches which are 2 of the things i love the most.
i write stories online and have had some pretty popular fics before. i write both fan fiction and own universe stories and i take part in nanowrimo every year. most of my stories will go up on quotev and/or mibba. you can view my profiles on those websites here and here. you can view my nanowrimo profile here.
through writing fan fiction, i have met friends who have made my life so much better and become my family. i met 2 of my best friends, dominique and alexandria, on quotev and i wouldn’t change them for the world. <3 i’m finally meeting dominique in march but unfortunately, alexandria and i still have to wait a little longer. but we’ll get there, i know we will. :) i’ve known both of these girls for nearly 7 years and i just love them so much. <3 i can’t wait to finally break the distance with my sisters. :)
i love body modification. i currently have 3 tattoos and pierced ears but i want so, so much more. i currently want 24 more tattoos plus an entire sleeve, 10 more piercings and stretched ears. all the tattoos i have currently are atl related (therapy and skull tattoos on my left arm, plus atl’s signatures on my upper back) and i love them so much. however, the next tattoo i intend to get is non-atl related but i still have plenty more atl-related stuff to get done, including the sleeve (it will be based on my fave album, nothing personal’s artwork). :)
i am highly into bdsm and am a submissive. before the tumblr purge, i had a bdsm blog but now, since i’ve had to delete it, anything that i can get away with will be posted here. some of my kinks include bondage, pain, torture, degradation and humiliation, dd/lg and watersports. i’ve struggled with my sexuality a lot over the years and part of that has been a struggle with accepting that i’m kinky. but i refuse to let it bother me anymore. i am into bdsm and if people don’t like it, that’s their problem. i will be posting bdsm-related things on this blog so if you’re not into that, please don’t follow me. however, i will try my best to tag everything as both bdsm and nsfw so if you are able to block those tags in any way and still want to follow me, please feel free to do so. :)
i love video games and my favourite games are the gta games (my faves are prob gta san andreas and gta5. however, i am currently making my way through gta4 as i didn’t get to play it when it initially came out). i also love tony hawk, sonic, pokemon and the sims. i am currently an xbox player but love playstation and nintendo too. i have fond memories of the gamecube and the ps2 growing up. i’m hoping to play red dead redemption 2 and undertale soon. i think they look awesome and have watched many let’s plays on them. currently playing: gta4, ts4 and pokemon white.
i love tv shows and some of my favourites are the goldbergs, brooklyn nine nine, how i met your mother, friends, stranger things, you, big mouth and the good place. i mostly netflix binge but sometimes will watch live. the only problem is things take a lot longer to come to the uk from the us haha. i used to be a huge fan of sci-fi and i used to blog a lot about supernatural, doctor who and sherlock but have drifted far away from that now (although i still love misha collins and ship destiel/cockles lmao). so if you see one of my old posts, know that i’m not like that anymore. i definitely prefer sitcoms these days but still love a good drama. :)
i love genealogy and have been creating my own family tree since 2015. my 3 favourite genealogy-related tv shows are who do you think you are? (uk version), heir hunters, and long lost family. i love finding out about my family history and what made me, me really. i get that it’s a super nerdy thing to be into but quite frankly, i don’t care haha.
i’m super interested in true crime and the psychology surrounding it. eleanor neale is my favourite youtuber but a close second is georgia marie. i also love buzzfeed unsolved, both true crime and supernatural editions. i frequently binge true crime docu-series on netflix and i really want to study psychology at some point. i just think it’s so fascinating to think about what must have to break in someone’s brain to make them so violent and/or evil.
being welsh, i of course adore rugby. and of course, i root for wales. the venue i work at is the home venue for wales and it makes me so proud. i would love to meet one of the team one day, probably leigh halfpenny specifically. i feel that rugby is just so much better than football and the fanbases tend to be way more accepting of each other. and the game is way more fun to watch. but unfortunately, i don’t think i’ll ever be strong or brave enough to actually play it haha.
i unfortunately struggle with a few illnesses that can sometimes make life a daily battle but i get through it. i have polycystic ovarian syndrome (pcos), which causes irregular periods, cysts on the ovaries, rapid weight gain and difficulty losing weight, hirsutism, male-pattern balding, acne and infertility. i have pretty much every symptom (but i haven’t tried getting pregnant yet so i don’t know about infertility) and it is hell. i also suffer with a few mental illnesses; depression, social anxiety disorder and OCD. i used to self-harm but am now over 5 years clean and i also have attempted suicide in the past but am thankfully not suicidal right now. i take 40 mg fluoxetine daily to manage my mental illnesses and i also see a support worker to help me get out more and build my confidence. i’ve been through both child and adult therapy services in the past. anyone who’s reading this and is struggling too, please stay strong. <3 i promise there are better days out there for you.
i hope you enjoy looking at my blog and that you give me a follow if you want! bye, peeps. <3

NFL 2021 Power Rankings
Two weeks down it’s time to over react!
32. Jacksonville Jaguars- meet the new boss same as the old boss. Urban Mayer and Trevor a Lawrence are starting off their NFL careers about as expected. Lawrence will have a second season at least but if things don’t turn around the same might not be able to be said about Urban. Maybe fake a heart attack?
31. New York Jets- back to back blowout losses is not how mean green thought they’d start 2021 but it’s certainly not a surprise. Any time your star QB ends the half with as many interceptions as completions it’s time to panic.
30. New York Giants- and the Jets stadium partner is also their partner in sadness. Big blue isn’t much better off with the derp know as Daniel Jones under center and a terrible running game to start 0-2 and making the case for the #1 overall pick. Will either Jones or Judge be around next year? For the sake of Giants fans I hope the next coach can help eliminate penalties.
29. Atlanta Falcons- the best thing to come out of Atlanta the last two weeks is Secret Base’s video series about them. The ATL was surprisingly close to upsetting Tampa this week but reality comes back. Matt Ryan hasn’t been playing great this year but neither has anyone else playing in the black and red. The way things are going it’s only a question of when not if the Falcons decide to move on from Matty Ice.
28. Detroit Lions- 0-2 has never looked quite as good as Goff and the lions putting up a big fight to both the 49ers and Packers. After two weeks it’s clear this is not the NFC’s worst team by a mile but that is not going to turn into vary many wins considering the schedule ahead of them. Trading for Jerod Goff wasn’t as much a tank job as previously thought, I don’t think Mathew Stafford could have turned either of those losses into wins.
27. Cincinnati Bengals- “reworked” offensive line huh? How’d that work for you bengals fans? Only two games into the year and Joe Burrow has already been sacked 9 times and hit another 16 times. Forget a winning record if Bengals fans want to see Joe have a career longer than 5 years you need to make some changes need to be made!
26. Philadelphia Eagles- Week 1 Jalen Hurts played out of his mind and lead the team to the win but Week 2 Hurts lived up to his name in a close but pedestrian performance. Seriously how do you get a 91 yard completion and not get ANY points?!
25. Chicago bears- how ironic that the Andy Dalton revenge game is what leads to his end as the starting QB. That being said how well Justin Fields plays now as the starter will decide how far this team goes and if they can snag another playoff spot in a tough NFC.
24. Houston Texans- I’m just as surprised to see them up here as you are. Tyrod is showing he can still play a starting roll by running all over the jags and almost upsetting Cleveland at home. Honestly if he didn’t get injured the Texans might have been 2-0 right now. Houston has made it clear that they are not the push over we thought they are this year.
23. Minnesota Vikings- the Vikings were one missed Morten Anderson extra point…I mean Greg Joseph field goal from beating the cardinals in a game they absolutely should have won. That and a Dalvin Cook fumble is all that stands in the way from a 2-0 start for Minnesota. Now that you’ve been punched in the mouth it’s time to see how you react.
22. Indianapolis Colts- a painful 0-2 start for a team that like the Vikings could have been 2-0. The Colts played two good teams in the Seahawks and Rams to start the year and have both a run for their money and fought hard. In a perfect world I would pick them to be the 0-2 team most likely to make the playoffs but this isn’t a perfect world and with Wentz injuring both ankles it’s up to Jacob Eason to try and avoid an 0-3 death nail.
21. New England Patriots-Belichick gonna Belichick I guess. Not that focusing on defense and running first is a bad strategy especially with a rookie QB. It certainly is working better than whatever the Jets are trying.
20. Miami Dolphins- I’m not sure what hurts more for Dolphins fans seeing Tua get injured or getting shutout at home to a rival. 35-0 is a hard pill to swallow. Now I don’t think having Tua would have made much of a difference last week against the bills but going forward at least one week with Jacoby Bresett under center is only going to make things harder for a Dolphins team with playoff aspersions.
19. Washington Football Team- 0-1 with Ryan Fitzpatrick and 1-0 with Taylor Heinicke and a share of the NFC East for the moment is about all the nameless ones can ask for at this point in the season. Unfortunately for the Team you’re facing the Bills next week and your defense has not been playing up to expectations.
18. New Orleans Saints- the Saints domination of the Packers in week one inspired hope for the Brees-less era but the teams follow up against Carolina brought them crashing down as Winston regressed to his typical Tampa form. Week four’s test against Mew England with show how well this team bounces back and how competitive they will be.
17. Pittsburgh Steelers- this team will be pulled along by its defense kicking and screaming. Lucky for the black and yellow they get to beat up on the bengals next week but you better be ready to show up to your week four game against Green Bay.
16. Denver Broncos- 2-0 is 2-0 no matter who you play right. That being said it’s hard to tell how strong this Denver team is after watching them play against the two children in a trench coat known as the jags and giants. Lucky for the Sutton-less Broncos they get to play the Jets in week 4 before a real test (and probably loss) in the form of the ravens.
15. San Francisco 49ers- the 49ers as lead by Jimmy G might be the weakest 2-0 team in the NFL right now. Scoring a measly 17 points against Philadelphia and almost letting in the Detroit Lions the week before has done nothing to inspire confidence with diet Alex Smith. This team as it currently stands is in peak form to meander around and do nothing and given the rest of the division that is a death sentence.
14. Los Angeles Chargers- the bolts find themselves sitting at 1-1 after absolutely refusing to get out of their own way in the form of 99 penalty yards against the Cowboys. Justin Herbert has been playing week but far from light(n)ing the world on fire as exemplified by the pair of picks he throw last week. Monday night’s game against the now Las Vegas Raiders will be a big test to see how far the team can go…also FYS, if you know you know
13. Seattle Seahawks- the Seahawks live on the razors edge. The defense has been as good (read bad) as expected but the offense has not been playing up to expectations and because of that they almost let the lions comeback on them and then proceed to let the Titans score 17 unanswered to win. If this trend continues chief Wilson will not only bring sitting at home come the playoffs but will do so in last place.
12. Tennessee Titans- speaking of that Seattle-Tennessee game… next up is the Titans who have to not be feeling good about how their season has gone so far. The super bowl hopefuls started out getting flattened by Arizona before almost falling to 0-2 before just pulling out an overtime win. Much like Seattle the defense side of the ball is what will hold the team back.
11. Carolina Panthers- probably the biggest surmise so far is the 2-0 (well now 3-0 because I’m doing these late) Panthers. Granted two of those wins are against the Texans and Jets but the blue and blacks do get credit for shutting down New Orleans and Jamis Winston and that why the end up here knocking at the door of the top ten.
10. Dallas Cowboys- by the edge of their teeth the Cowboys find themselves at number 10. After giving the Tom Bradys all they can handle in week one they get their first win (barely) against a very good Los Diego Chargers team thanks to them shooting themselves in the foot a little less then their opponents. Lucky for the jerryworld inhabitants they get a freebie on Monday against the Eagles.
9. Green Bay Packers- it took a six quarters but the Packers finally showed up for a football game! Now we’ll see if that’s a giant in the making like the last few years or a flash in the pan has yet to be seen but of course there’s still plenty of football including a good yardstick against San Francisco in a chance to right an NFC Title game loss.
8. Los Vegas Raiders- the Raiders have beaten the Steelers and ravens and I think that makes them the AFC North’s best team? All jokes aside the Raiders have started out 2-0 and in a good position to start off the year. If they continue to play up to this new standard they very well could be the AFC West’s champion
7. Cleveland Browns- Maybe almost beating KC in week one gave the browns a hangover and that’s why the Texans were as big a threat as they were? On the bright side even with the injury concerns Cleveland is still playing great football and even get to get their team in order going up against a pair of NFC north teams.
6. Arizona Cardinals- the Redbirds benefitting from a missed field goal? After seeing last season I’m shocked. These Cardinals are fun to watch and K1 is playing up to his billing as the number 1 overall pick. I don’t know what to do I’m not used to being excited about something that isn’t the draft…ugh sorry A’s fans for taking him away?
5. Buffalo Bills- ok now things are getting serious. After loosing to Pittsburgh to start the season the Bills took out their frustrations on a helpless Dolphins team to the tune of a 35 point shutout. The Williams are still one of the best teams in the NFL and you need to come prepared.
4. Los Angeles Rams- despite the Colts best efforts Stafford is still perfect as a non-lion quarterback. It wasn’t perfect but the Sheep pulled out a win and showed why they are a super bowl contender.
3. Baltimore Ravens- what a difference a week makes. From licking their wounds loosing to the Raiders to giving the chiefs and Patrick Mahomes his first loss in September. The Ravens put down any doubts from anyone that they are not a championship contender as a reward get to beat up on Detroit.
2. Kansas City Chiefs- The aforementioned loss to Baltimore not withstanding Kansas City is still a powerful team. It’s hard to fault the 2 time AFC champions for a 1 point loss on a fumble to a playoff team. They’re good who knew?
1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- you’ve got to beat the best to be the best and so far TB is 2-0 so they’re number one in the rankings. Don’t have much else to add.

Jordan Verroi was a big character in seasons three and four of Bravo's Summer House. However, Jordan did not return to the show for season five. The cast recently spilled the tea on the first part of the fifth reunion special, and fans are wondering what the Bravo stars are up to once the cameras stop rolling. With the drama flowing just as much as the rosé on this reality show, there is no shortage of catfights and problematic housemates. One of the most challenging cast members the friends had to endure was none other than self-proclaimed good boy, Jordan Verroi.
The show welcomed Jordan for his debut back in season three. In a 2019 interview, Jordan admitted feeling like a fish out of water amongst the rest of the cast. Growing up as a southern Christian from the hot ATL, he felt neither the show nor his castmates' liberal prospectives would mesh well with his conservative ways. Initially perceived as the nice guy who finishes last, this Leo sign shocked everyone with his telltale lies of his fabricated sex-capades. While Jordan thought his seemingly extravagant sex life would win over the others in the house, his approach backfired big time.

When it was rumored he would be demoted from a series regular to a friend role, Jordan decided to make a swift departure and left production of the fourth season three weeks early. Yet, this controversial character left quite an impression that still keeps fans wondering what he has been up to since he left the Hamptons crew behind. Jordan might no longer be channeling his alter persona for reality TV cameras, but he has been keeping rather busy since his time on Summer House.
Jordan currently resides in the New York City metropolitan area and is involved with several businesses. He is the co-founder of the branding app, CapGenius, which connects individuals' social media posts with brands for advertising opportunities (via Instagram). When he isn't busy promoting his 2016 startup, he acts as an advisor to Drum Technologies and Pangea.app, helping to recruit college students for paid work from over 700 college campuses across the nation.
Ever the ladies' man, Jordan's several hookups with social strategist Jules Daoud were the focal point of his story arc on the show in season four. Still, fans and castmates alike have questioned his sexuality. Even his coworker turned frenemy, Hannah, admitted in an interview that there was a possibility of Jordan not being truthful when it comes to his sexual orientation. However, being the supposedly God-fearing person he claims to be, it seems Jordan keeps a very tight lid on his mysterious personal life.

year in review
Time for the year in review! I do these two surveys and the writing one every year, though the writing one is gonna wait until I have time to collect all the links and do the word count and everything.
Fandom 2017
1. Your main fandom of the year?
Definitely still Hamilton on the reading/writing front. In the "this is all I talk about" way, it was probably Great Comet or maybe Malloy in general because I still want to talk about Ghost Quartet all the time.
2. Your favorite film watched this year?
(Hahaha, in last year's meme I said something about finding Moana surprisingly moving and wanting to see it again. I ended up seeing it like, five times in theatres.)
But actual films that I actually saw in 2017 that weren't Moana. Probably Get Out. It's really a masterful piece of work in my very favorite genre. I made a zillion people see it. I still think about it all the time. And [vague spoilers] the bit where Rod comes out of the car is probably my favorite movie moment in 2017. [/vague spoilers]
3. Your favorite book read this year?
I can narrow it down to my top three, which were Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee, Star-Crossed by Barbara Dee, and Ghostland by Colin Dickey. The first two are completely unsurprising--Gentleman's Guide is my favorite sort of narrative, where there are exciting adventures and also a queer romance and everyone lives happily ever after. Star-Crossed is the book I needed when I was thirteen, and Ghostland is something I'm still talking about all the time.
4. Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
Did I listen to anything new this year? Oh, Ghost Quartet! Definitely Ghost Quartet, it was all I listened to for about two months.
5. Your favorite TV show of the year?
Oh god, I don't know? There was nothing I was obsessive over. New stuff that I liked: One Day at a Time, The Good Place, and...maybe that was it?
6. Your favorite online fandom community of the year?
idk. To be honest, I still don’t quite ~*~get~*~ tumblr (tho I had some nice conversations via the chat function, despite my general awkwardness as a human), LJ is dead, and while I connect with fandom friends and talk about fandom on Twitter, I don’t do that as much as I whine about my life. I guess AO3 has been great via comments received, but that also feels one-sided, as chatty cathy as I sometimes get when responding to people’s comments. Most of my fandom conversations this year have PROBABLY been over text?
^^^^ That's what I wrote last year and it probably remains true, except to say that I had a lot of gr8 conversations about my dumb fic with @lisapizza.
7. Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
I don't think I had one, unless you count Ghost Quartet.
8. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
Everything that happened around the end of Great Comet. I'm still angry and heartbroken over it.
9. Your fandom boyfriend of the year?
I'm changing this from "your TV bf" and "your TV gf" because I just don't watch a ton of teevee anymore. Still, even with that change, I'm not sure I have a fandom boyfriend right now. I have been pretty anti-dude this year. OH, I guess unless you count Lucas Steele getting all up in my biz on stage when I saw Comet in August XD
10. Your fandom girlfriend of the year?
Probably Brittain Ashford or Morgan Marcell.
11. Your biggest squee moment of the year?
My entire Chicago trip was pretty great, including seeing Karen as Angelica which was WOW. Seeing Malloy as Pierre. The final performance of Great Comet in a ferris wheel with @lisapizza @charmingpplincardigans and @chiasticbees
12. The most missed of your old fandoms?
Mostly I miss having close buddies in fandom. I miss texting @pearlo every dumb fic idea I have and planning trips and parties for people to come do fannish stuff together.
13. The fandom you haven’t tried yet, but want to?
I’m p mono-fannish, so I’m good for now.
14. Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
Oh god, I don't know? Heroes, probably. It's weird not doing DragonCon this year. Um, Hamilton in Boston. Whatever happens with Moby Dick. Black Panther and A Wrinkle in Time. The Simon vs. movie.
***
General 2017
What did you do in 2017 that you’d never done before?
Went on a non-con vacation with friends! Recorded a live podcast episode (twice!)! Uh...probably other things?
Did you keep your New Year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
+ Read more adult books
Aahahahaha, if I did that, it was by like...one. So no.
+ Keep track of good things that happen
I started this at the end of the year? But I did not start in January, so much of the year is lost to my shitty memory.
+ Make a writing schedule and try to stick to it for at least a month
This did not happen.
+ Be better with money–pay off half the credit card
This also did not happen.
+ Go on more dates
This also did not happen. I did go on some, but not as many as 2016 and I spent a large chunk of 2017 dragging my feet over asking someone out instead of just...asking.
Next year:
+ Come up with a better way to track reading/writing/finances + Set up some kind of writing schedule + Cook more often + Schedule at least a couple days a month that are designated "get nothing done" days, so I have at least a couple days where I'm not an anxious mess over not doing enough. + Go somewhere new + Go on more dates--there will be more kissing in 2018, I stfg.
Did anyone close to you give birth?
Caitlin had a baby! I still haven't met him :(
Did anyone close to you die?
The only person I can think of is Sara, a con friend who I know through several of my closer friends. It was weird being at con without her.
What countries did you visit?
Just the US. Hoping to change that in 2018. I did go to ATL, Charlotte, and Chicago, but even that feels like less travel than I normally do.
What would you like to have in 2018 that you lacked in 2017?
I’d like to feel more on top of things. I’d like more organization in my life. I’d like more sleep. I’d like a girlfriend.
^^^^ Keeping that answer from last year.
What dates from 2017 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
January 21 and the Women's March, which was amazing and energizing. June 13 when we saw Malloy as Pierre and that whole weird weekend. September 3 and having the final performance of Great Comet in a ferris wheel. (And also crying my cosplay make-up off all day like a nerd.)
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Staying alive? I feel like this was not a particularly strong year for achievements.
What was your biggest failure?
The whole year feels kind of like a fuzzy grey blur. I feel like I can come up with nine hundred failures, but none of them were particularly bad.
Did you suffer illness or injury?
I started the year off with a broken foot and also with a cold that lasted almost a week. The usual brain stuff was worse than usual thanks to the state of the world. I got glasses.
What was the best thing you bought?
Tickets to Great Comet and Hamilton and Ghost Quartet and Ghost Light and all the other shows and things I saw. My trip to Chicago. My skeleton onesie.
Whose behavior merited celebration?
My friends. A lot of excellent activists.
Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The American people as a whole and everything associated with our clusterfuck election outcome.
Where did most of your money go?
Grown-up type stuff (rent, utilities, groceries), cons, and travel.
What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Chicago, HeroesCon, DragonCon, Hamilton, Great Comet, Ghost Quartet. Galentine's Day and my Great Comet wake and my Halloween party.
What song will always remind you of 2017?
I feel like this question is more aimed towards people who listen to the radio. My answer is going to be Ghost Quartet because I listened to that a lot.
Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? I would say that, overall, 2017 has been a sadder year for me than 2016, because up until November, my 2016 was pretty great. But this very moment right now, I think I'm probably slightly happier than I was in December 2016 because everything seemed SO bleak at that point, and at least now there's been some hope.
b) thinner or fatter? Same.
c) richer or poorer? Same.
What do you wish you’d done more of?
Writing. Sleeping. Going on dates. Hanging out with people.
What do you wish you’d done less of?
Being depressed. Obsessing over stupid shit people said on the internet.
Did you fall in love in 2017?
Nope.
What was your favorite TV program?
For new stuff, probably The Good Place.
Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Many, many people. THANKS, POLITICS.
What was the best book you read?
See above for more details on this one.
What was your greatest musical discovery?
Ghost Quartet.
What did you want and get?
Cons, brunch, travel, various tickets to things, my skeleton onesie.
What did you want and not get?
Impeachment. A girlfriend. More sleep.
What was your favorite film of this year?
Get Out
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 32! I had a party and we played Drawful and @lisapizza made me a beautiful cake!
What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Any sort of fix to our current political mess.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2017?
Retro-y dresses.
What kept you sane?
@ginthusiastic @pearlo @caphairdadbeard @isjustprogress @intrikate88 @lisapizza @charmingpplincardigans @anachronistique @chiasticbees @brilligspoons and the rest of the Boston crew whose tumblrs I don’t know/remember, and the DCon crew and Great Comet and Hamilton and GBBO and social media breaks.
Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Brittain Ashford, Morgan Marcell, the entire cast of The Last Jedi.
What political issue stirred you the most?
It's hard to pick just one when the whole country is on fire.
Who did you miss?
Pretty much everyone when they are not right next to me. Sarah Bay, a lot, but I feel weird singling one person out. [This is exactly what I wrote for the last three years, but I’m keeping it because it’s still true.]
Who was the best new person you met?
I’m trying to think of actualfax new people I met? I can't think of anyone?
Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2017:
No one cares about facts.
Quote a song that sums up your year:
I will try to forgive myself for living in the dark for my loss of wonder for forgetting how to play
I will try to forgive myself for being absent in public and bored before stars
for not remembering for not being in my body for not starting right now I will try to see myself as I am

#PRFOCUS INTERVIEW: ANDREA HAMILTON (CEO THEORY COMMUNICATIONS)
Hi Andrea, thank you for taking the time to speak to The Female Hustler today. You are originally from Cleveland, what was it like growing up there and what made you decide to make the move to Atlanta where you are currently based?
Cleveland is a tough place to grow up in. There aren't many opportunities, its much poorer, a lot of crime, but that type of environment births a city of hungry people who are go-getters. I had a great family life, I grew up with my mother who is an educator and my father who is an artist/photographer. By having the best of both worlds, I had a lot of great knowledge, characteristics and skills instilled in me from birth. When it came time to select a university/college to attend, I wanted to move to Atlanta BAD. Atlanta seemed to be the hot and popping place for African Americans and millennials. I knew that Atlanta was the place to be, if you wanted to be somebody.
You went to college for Fashion Design, how did you end up working in PR?
I took a slew of odd internships while in fashion school, because I was desperately trying to find myself. I stumbled across a fashion PR internship and applied. Luckily, due to my quick wit and knowledge I landed an interview and was hired. It was then that I realized PR was my true calling. I went out a lot as a young adult and would meet all kinds of people, head music execs, athletes, tastemakers, artists and more. I used those relationships to develop a strong a core network. So when I got into PR, those contacts I had finally were beneficial to my career. I grew to love public relations fast because I was naturally great at it.
You are the head publicist at your company Theory Communications which you run with your sister, how is it working so closely with family?
My sister and I are 17-months a part and have always been raised like "Irish twins." Nobody knows me like my sister does, and vice versa. We argue and bicker all the time, but we always make amends and never let that get in-between the work that needs to be done. We've spent our entire lives together so we know each others strengths and weaknesses as if they are our own.
Tell us a bit more about your company Theory Communications and what services you offer
Theory Communications is an integrative communications agency, fusing traditional PR and marketing tools. Founded in 2014, our team consists of professionals with combined experience serving a number of high-profile clients in areas including Atlanta, Los Angeles and New York City.
Theory Communications specializes in public relations, digital marketing, social media marketing, event planning and branding for lifestyle, sports and entertainment clients. We also have in-house web design, graphic and intellectual property teams. We pride ourselves on creating informative, fresh and innovative brand awareness for our clients through extensive relations with national and local media, state-of-the-art marketing tools and strategic planning skills.
One of your current big clients is Hustle Gang, how did that opportunity to work with them come about and what has been a highlight so far?
I was introduced to Grand Hustle through a referral. Once myself and some of their executive staff met we immediately had a great vibe. I'm a family ran business so all of my clients are like family. I have to really have great vibes and energy with each client as well as they need to have that for myself and our team. So we immediately hit it off, which led to us working with each other.
Since working as a publicist what has been one of your favourite campaigns so far?
One of my very first gigs was the VH1 Rock Doc - ATL Rise: The Untold Story of Atlanta's Rap Game. We were the talent liaisons for the show, as well as curated the big red carpet premiere in Atlanta. I will never forget this because it was such a huge gig and we landed it within 30 days of launching our company. It also was the first time I had received TV/Film credits, so to reach that goal in the very beginning has always been memorable.
With your job you are always travelling around, where has been your favourite place you have got to visit with your work so far?
I travelled to Hong Kong, China with one of my beauty clients, Ming Lee. I love experiencing different cultures, so being in China was always a bucket list destination for me. I had a great time and learned a lot about their way of life, food, culture and more.
As you know we are a UK based blog, have you ever been to the UK? Any plans to come to London anytime soon?
I have not been to the UK yet, but I cannot wait to have the opportunity to come there. I've heard so many great things and funnily whenever I pretend to have an alter-ego I am from West London, Hammersmith, lol. So I probably need to visit there to learn more facts when I pretend next time.
Are you familiar with any UK artists?
I'm familiar with Stefflon Don, she's super dope. She's signed with Quality Control - an AMAZING independent label. They put on heavy for their artists so I've been watching her movement... she's going to blow.
Who would be your dream client if you could work with anybody that you haven't already?
I don't per say have "dream clients" I just love working with athletes and dope/creative artists with open mind sets. But if I had to choose, I would love to work with someone such as Travis Scott because he's just dope all around. Rihanna of course because she has so many different things going on in several industry categories, so we would stay busy and get creative.
When a potential new client approaches you about working together, what do you already expect them to have in place?
They need to have a product and somewhat of a local following.
What struggles did you face when launching your own company and how did you overcome them? Do you have any advice you could share with someone who is getting ready to take that leap into launching their own company?
The main struggle is organization. We kind of hit the ground running, so we were stuck trying to organize the back end of the business while taking on new clients. It's important to organize and manage your business operations first and foremost. Understand the business your in, do research, read articles, know the top 5 CEO's in your field and their story. There's no such thing as too much knowledge. You should study your craft every day so you can understand how to operate your business the best way.
You are also a full time mum, how do you manage juggling motherhood and running your own company? Do you have any advice for any mums out there who may be wanting to start their own company?
My advice for Moms are NEVER GIVE UP. My daughter is my biggest motivation. She comes with me everywhere thankfully because I have the luxury to do that. But for the Moms who may have to put their kids in school/day-care, just always set aside time for your kid as well as time to recharge yourself. It's very difficult finding time for you when you are juggling the weight of the world and a child(ren) on your shoulders. I usually pick a day of the week that I will just hang with my daughter and then possibly just go home, cook (which I love to do), watch TV or go get a massage. It's been life changing.
As you know we are 'The Female Hustler' what is your definition of a 'Female Hustler'?
A female hustler is a woman who knows what she wants and is relentless to reach that goal. You may not necessarily be at your "goal" yet, but as long as you are taking strides to reach your goals in life you are a hustler. Never be discouraged by the hustle and never compare your grind to another because we all have different roads to take to reach our goals.
Finally what is coming up for you, your company and clients that you are able to share with us?
Honestly, we will just be working, growing larger with clients and our team. We have a lot of great projects upcoming for some of our existing clients such as Lou Williams (Clippers), Hustle Gang, Stephen Jackson (NBA Veteran), The Gathering Spot (Private Membership Club) and more. This year (2018) is going to be crazy!

Another Tag Thing
Tagged by @hyrulehearts1123 - am I supposed to be doing things?
...Yes actually. But screw that.
Rules: Answer all questions and tag 20 people.
1. What is your nickname?

Yes, but it’s less likely someone deserves them after a long period of time of repeated actions.
93. Do you believe that people are capable of change?
Yeah, people can change. But people can also change back.
94. Are you ticklish?
I used to be... thanks friends.
95. Have you ever been on a plane?
Yeah, a bunch. Is that a new thing?
96. Do you have any piercings?
Nope, I hate needles. Hate them.
97. What fictional character do you wish was real?
idk. All fictional characters have pros and cons to bringing them to the real world.
I’m too analytical aren’t I? Let’s just go with Calvin and Hobbes. They’re harmless.
98. Do you have any tattoos?
Nope. I’ve only thought about one, but, once again, NEEDLES.
99. What is the best decision that you’ve made in your life so far?
When I switched from a public school to a private school.
100. Do you believe in karma?
Eh, not really. People make choices that affect them in the long run, that doesn’t mean it’s a supernatural thing.
101. Do you wear glasses or contacts?
Nope. I’m the only one with perfect vision in my somewhat extended family, until you hit some of my cousins.
102. Do you want children?
I couldn’t handle more than one kid. Maybe a dog will work instead.
103. Who is the smartest person you know?
My dad, personally.
104. What is your most embarrassing memory?
I can’t think of anything ultra-embarrassing right now, but I have a tendency to screw up the english language in strange and creative ways.
105. Have you ever pulled an all-nighter?
Only once, a while back. I need my beauty rest.
106. What color are most of you clothes?
Solid colors, mostly T-shirts. I look like a middle school boy most days. Not fun.
107. Do you like adventures?
Sure! I’m up for failing miserably.
108. Have you ever been on TV?
I was almost an extra in a Netflix movie - my family was up in New York City and we stumbled onto a set, and got to take part in it. I don’t think the scene was in the actual film though.
109. How old are you?
18.
110. What is your favorite quote?
“Do not let anyone define you because of where you come from. Your only limit is your soul.”
-My senior quote, from Ratatouille
111. Do you prefer sweet or savory foods?
Savory. Sweet isn’t bad though.
112. Have your friends ever badly disapponted you?
Most of them have (not too badly though) at some point, but I love them anyways.
113. What is your favorite scent?
Home sweet home. Too bad you can’t bottle that one up.
114. Random fact you know?
Banging your head against the wall burns 150 calories an hour. Go try it.
115. What is your opinion on long distance relationships?
They’re painful and tedious, and don’t always work out, but if the relationship is strong enough you’ll perservere. Why do you ask?
PS screw tagging people. Just screw it

1L Class Represents At Harvard Law School — And It’s Picture Perfect
Harvard Law School Class of 2021 Representing (Photo by Armani Madison, Daniel Oyolu, and Shane Fowler)
“When you bring my name up to the judge, just tell him facts / Tell him how we funding all these kids to go to college / Tell him how we ceasing all these wars, stopping violence / Trying to fix the system and the way that they designed it / I think they want me silenced (Shush) / Oh, say you can see, I don’t feel like I’m free / Locked down in my cell, shackled from ankle to feet / Judge banging that gavel, turned me to slave from a king / Another day in the bing, I got to hang from a string.” — Meek Mill
This week, David Casey, Chief Diversity Officer at CVS Health, shared a picture on his LinkedIn of 60 first-year Harvard Law School students (1Ls) from the African Diaspora. As of today, it has over 600 likes. My friend Van Ann Bui, SEO Law Director, brought this picture-perfect moment to ATL’s attention.
I couldn’t help but be reminded of another recent viral picture that originated from a neighborhood I lived in a few years back, Deep Ellum in Dallas, Texas. My former U.S. Department of Health and Human Services colleague Erica Broussard and the creative behind the photo, her husband NeAndre Broussard, have been the highlights of my social media feeds as of late.
As highlighted by NBC DFW earlier this month:
The photo shows about 100 men of color, dressed in suits, surrounding 6-year old Harper Anthony, of Chicago. The boy also wore a suit, and without direction, put his fist in the air. ‘It’s a great capture,’ said NeAndre Broussard. ‘It shows that while you’re up next, we’re all behind you and pushing you where you need to go.’
In his interview with ABC WJLA, Broussard stated that he was “trying to make a change, trying to change the narrative.” He started the Black Menswear social media national campaign following several police shootings of minority males. Broussard told ABC “Every time a victim was portrayed in the media, it was always the worst picture.” But time and time again, we witness how unconscious bias, implicit bias, and social narratives paint a much brighter picture of white perpetrators.
On Monday, Us Director Jordan Peele told Ian Roberts, in front of the audience at Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre: “I don’t see myself casting a white dude as the lead in my movie. Not that I don’t like white dudes, but I’ve seen that movie. It really is one of the best, greatest pieces of this story, is feeling like we are in this time — a renaissance has happened and proved the myths about representation in the industry are false,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Peele’s comments will no doubt rile a few feathers. And it will likely offend those same birds who were offended by Brie Larson’s position, which was published in Marie Claire, of wanting to increase diversity in the film and press industries. As the saying goes, “when you’re accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression.”
This week, I had the opportunity to catch up with the organizers of the Harvard 1L photograph shoot — Armani Madison, Daniel Oyolu, and Shane Fowler. Their journeys to law school and motivations for organizing a picture of one of the largest classes of black students in HLS’s history are truly remarkable. I found their stories inspirational and learned quite a bit from them. I believe you will as well. Here is a (lightly edited and condensed) write-up of our conversation:
Renwei Chung (RC): How did you choose your undergraduate school and then Harvard Law School?
Armani Madison
Armani Madison (AM): As a low-income student, I received the opportunity to learn about and to apply free-of-charge to Brown University as a QuestBridge Scholar. For law school, I wanted an institution with a strong community of students of color, and which would provide the resources that would best support me in my education, such as a robust offering of clinics, empowering students to make real-world impact as they learn. The generosity of Harvard’s financial aid program also enabled me to make this decision.
Daniel Oyolu (DO): As much as I loved growing up in Texas, I wanted to explore another part of the country in college. After learning about liberal arts schools, I selected Bates College because of its scholarly reputation, down to Earth and collegial culture, location in the Northeast, and a generous financial aid package. For law school, I chose Harvard because it affords students the freedom and resources to fully pursue any intellectual or professional interests.
Shane Fowler (SF): Growing up in a working-class family, the financial benefits of attending an in-state public institution were very attractive. With that being said, I was a Wildcat at birth. I couldn’t imagine attending any other undergrad school than the University of Kentucky. For law school, I wanted to attend the school that gave me the most flexibility after graduation. OCS and OPIA at HLS really work hard to give students the widest range of opportunities.
RC: What motivated you to organize the photo?
AM: We wanted to find a way to celebrate the beauty and brilliance of our class and to inspire other students across the country with positive images of Black students succeeding in higher education.
We knew that our class was among the largest classes of black students in Harvard Law’s history, and we wanted to visually tell that story. Within this one photo are many incredible narratives and ambitions, and we wanted to share this with others.
RC: What do you hope people take away from this picture?
AM: Although these pictures celebrate our class, the message goes beyond this. We intended for these pictures to inspire young people of color, and to impress upon them that people who look like them and have similar beginnings are surviving and thriving in the arena of higher education.
Regardless of where students matriculate, we want to encourage students to dream big, show them that success is possible, and let them know that we are rooting for them.
RC: What does representation mean to you?
Daniel Oyolu
DO: Our identities are shaped by history, our families and communities, lived experiences, and other circumstances. Representation is seeing the richness and complexity of your own identity in every part of society.
We want all students to think, “I can see myself there.” Sometimes, seeing the possibility is all you need to take the next step. Representation offers that possibility.
RC: Can you tell us a little bit about your background, life journey, and what originally interested you in law school?
AM: I’m from Stockbridge, Georgia. I attended Brown University for undergrad, where I studied Political Science. I was involved in campus activism and became particularly interested in causes impacting young people of color. The limited access to invested legal representation experienced by marginalized communities, particularly young people, is a grave injustice, and I hope to tackle the problem as a lawyer. I am interested in civil rights law.
DO: I was born in Toronto, Canada as the son of Nigerian immigrants and grew up in a very diverse Houston, Texas. Later, I attended Bates College in Maine, studied Spanish, and spent semesters abroad in Cuba, Spain, and Brazil. My experiences around the world showed me firsthand how individuals can live under the same legal system but not have equal opportunity to exercise their rights. I wanted to tackle these phenomena via law school.
SF: I’m from Cynthiana, Kentucky. It’s a blue-collar town with some of the most caring people you’ll ever meet. I went to the University of Kentucky, where I majored in Communications and minored in Biology. My interest in law school is rooted in my upbringing in Rural America. I hope to one day reduce the barriers on education, employment and healthcare that currently plague the region.
RC: What activities are you involved with outside the classroom?
AM: I am involved as a student attorney for the Harvard Prison Legal Assistance Project and the Harvard Defenders, an organization which represents low-income clients in criminal show-cause hearings. I am also a proctor (basically a super-RA) for first-year undergraduates at Harvard College. Outside of Harvard, I am involved as an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
DO: I am a member of the Harvard Mediation Program where I co-mediate various types of disputes in small claims court in the city. Also, I am part of the Community Outreach Initiative of the Harvard Immigration Project where we advise recent immigrants on options for immigration relief. Additionally, I’m an active member of the Black Law Students Association, Harvard African Law Association, and the Texas Club.
SF: I joined the Mississippi Delta Project. It is a student organization that provides policy and legal services to clients in the Mississippi Delta region. Aside from that, I am a member of the Community Outreach committee for the Black Law Student Association here at Harvard.
RC: What advice do you have for others who are thinking about applying to law school?
AM: Reach out to current students and graduates doing what you want to do and ask questions. More likely than not, any of us would be thrilled to talk to you. As students of color, we are less likely to have close connections with people with professional degrees. Neither the law school website nor a law school blog will give you an accurate sense of what it is like to be a student of color at a given institution.
DO: Law school is a significant investment so take your time and assess why you want to attend. Take advantage of the pre-law resources at your undergraduate institution and reach out to current and past law school students to learn more about the process and how to navigate it. Lastly, law school admission counselors are people just like you who are captivated by compelling stories. There is only one YOU in the world. Share that story.
Shane Fowler
SF: Be confident in your story. Let that prospective school really know who you are because you matter, and your background, your upbringing, your perspective is powerful. Also, understand that you can excel at numerous institutions around this country. The “T-14” schools don’t have a monopoly on producing amazing lawyers. You can do great things anywhere.
RC: What is something they don’t tell you about law school?
AM: Just how intense it is. I was definitely not prepared for how much work law school is, from the nights spent at the library to the experience of having to change entirely how you have been used to writing for your entire life. My suggestion is to ask questions where you have them, to build relationships, to stay active with a hobby, and to maintain a way to remind yourself why you came here when motivation is low.
DO: Call me crazy but it is possible to enjoy your time in law school. Is law school hard? Absolutely! However, lots of things in life are hard and for many students of color, life presents obstacles that are harder than law school itself. Do not shortchange or underestimate your ability to thrive. Find your community of friends, engage that inspirational professor, pursue hobbies outside of school, and don’t forget the passion that drove you to law school.
SF: The self-doubt it may bring. Personally, my first month at Harvard Law was plagued with insecurity. I convinced myself that I didn’t belong here. Thankfully, the black community at HLS, my section classmates, and my Professors were incredibly supportive and helped me reaffirm that my spot at this school was deserved. So, I want to reaffirm to anyone who may be experiencing similar doubt – you belong!
RC: What would you change about our society if you could?
AM: Having worked in education before law school, I would love to see our educational system transformed into one of equity and intention as it relates to serving marginalized students. I would love to see free higher education and vastly improved infrastructure to serve students of color. While we’re at it, let’s remove school resource officers and reform the ways that we evaluate academic performance and handle student discipline in the K-12 system. Can we also abolish standardized testing?
DO: I wish all individuals in our society had adequate resources to live the lives they choose to live and not the lives they have to live. I don’t consider myself to be a special person. I was simply fortunate enough to have access to a great education, extracurricular activities, strong support system, healthcare, economic security, and safe neighborhood. If more students growing up had access to these same resources, our society would dramatically change for the better.
SF: The economic inequality and wealth disparity in this country presents unique, and alarming challenges for the future of our society. I would change how our society views those at the bottom of the socio-economic ladder. Viewing the poor with compassion would lead to policy decisions that promote affordable healthcare, adequate working wages, and educational opportunities without the crippling student loan debt.
RC: If you could put anything on a billboard outside of HLS, what would it be?
AM: “Bring your full self and let your authenticity shine.”
DO: “Live Your Renaissance.”
SF: “The future belongs to those who prepare for it today.”
