thank you!!
Sure thing, White Collar fic recs coming right up! I have more in the folder if you want more/different, but here’s a mixed selection. I also have more similar fics but the list is already quite long enough, and some of these have sequels.
Always A Surprise: Neal/Sara, 1.7k, explicit, dom/sub, femdom. Neal is good little sub for Sara, but also wants Peter to fuck him—she knows and encourages his fantasies.
It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year: Peter & Neal, Peter/Elizabeth, Elizabeth & Mozzie, 3.8k, general, post-canon, reunions. Neal gets back from Paris and meets baby Neal at Christmas, also feat Diana and Theo.
Perspective: Peter/Neal/El, can be read as friendship, 5.2k, mature, kidnapping, hurt/comfort. Neal gets kidnapped and develops ptsd related to restraints ie his anklet, but Peter and El are doing everything they can to make him feel safe again.
Once Upon Another Time: Neal/Sara, Neal & Mozzie, 25k, mature, mpreg (not mpreg from Sara). Neal is a government breeder with no choice in the matter, and Sara is looking for her art thief at the same as the FBI—Sara finds Neal before Peter does.
The Last Con: Neal/Sara, 33k, teen and up, post-canon. Neal gets to live his life after canon, moving to London to be with Sara and work as an insurance investigator, but then he doesn’t anymore.
L’art pour l’art: Neal/Gordon Taylor, 834 words, general, fluff. The soulmates being fluffy in Paris.
Blown Up: Neal/David Siegel, 5k, explicit, character death, grief, suicidal thoughts. Very angsty sad fic with briefly happy Neal because Neal never gets to be happy.
The Island: Neal/David, 5k, explicit, character death, emotional hurt/comfort. Neal gets to fall in love, but it’s in secret, and he can’t be okay when he has to pretend it never happened.
Built on sand: Neal & Diana, 4.3k, teen and up, undercover as a couple, MLM WLW solidarity. Neal saves Diana from having to flirt with a guy on a mission, and Diana doesn’t realise how okay with it Neal is.
The Way You Make Me Feel: Neal/OMC, 6.3k, teen and up, bisexual Neal. Neal was in a nude painting for an ex boyfriend, then said painting ends up in FBI’s white collar division.
This Isn’t Where I’d Choose to Be (But Maybe it’s Where I Should Be): Neal/Peter, Neal/Matthew Keller, 666 words, general, AU canon divergence, not canon compliant. Peter, Neal and Keller get stuck in an elevator, prompting discussion and reenactment of the last time Neal and Keller were stuck in an elevator.
Our Secret to Keep: Neal/Peter, 2.6k, mature, semi-public sex, exhibitionism. Neal is underneath Peter’s desk with a gift, the gift is himself.
Audio Drama: Neal/OMC, Neal/Peter, Peter/Elizabeth (mentioned), 2k, mature, exhibitionism, professional ethics re consent. Diana, Peter and Jones have to sit in the van listening to Neal get a blowjob and then Peter confronts him about it and it ends about as you’d expect.
Fox Among Hounds: Neal/Peter, 11k, teen and up, pre-relationship, escorts, protective Peter. Neal pretends to be an escort for an undercover mission, and when it starts to go pear shaped I guess Peter was the only possible person to get him out of it.
A Gentleman’s Guide to Suits, Ties and (White) Collars: Neal/Peter, Mike Ross/Harvey Spector, Donna Paulson/Clinton Jones, 29k, teen and up, matchmaking, first kiss. Mike is on a mission to make Peter and Neal realise that they love each other via the most crazy crossover dinner party.
The New Boss: gen, crossover with Chuck, 14k, general, Neal Caffrey and Bryce Larkin are the same person. Hughes still gets pushed out as ASAC but maybe the CIA replacement isn’t who they were expecting.
Never Recognised A Purer Face: Blaine Anderson/Sebastian Smythe, Cooper Anderson & Blaine Anderson, 3.3k, teen and up, Cooper Anderson and Neal Caffrey are the same person, Seblaine high school sweethearts. Cooper Anderson faked his death, but now he has to protect his little brother from said brother’s criminal boyfriend.

em i am delighted to learn you’ve watched glee and i must ask you a very important question that i’ve been thinking about recently. if there was a stranger things x glee crossover who do you think would be friends and who do you think would absolutely despise each other?? personally i think lucas and sam would be pals whereas nancy and rachel’s personalities would clash… would absolutely love to know your thoughts xx
this is such a huge question as both shows have giant casts but i LOVE it. first of all nancy and rachel are incredibly complicated and i think it depends entirely upon the situation they're in. like i do think they would clash in most situations but if they found themselves united in a common cause i could see them getting along bc i think nancy would also send her rival to a crack house and rachel would also point a gun at her boyfriend and bash someone's head in with a fire extinguisher in self defense. like if they did become friends they would kill somebody for sure. also i agree w ur lucas and sam pals assessment i think they would just have a swell time <3
now my strongest opinion here is that steve and santana would be insanely good friends. like they'd have a frenemies Vibe they'd be insanely mean to each other and outsiders would think they hated each other but they'd be besties. they're both like the same brand of slutty mean girl i think and as we know steve is a hit with the lesbians. they'd talk such mad shit about people probably with quinn as well. also i think steve and sebastian smythe would hook up. it would be very much hate fueled. also i think steve and puck would end up in a fist fight somehow and steve would beat puck's ass.
meanwhile i think robin would want to study brittany like a bug <3 brittany would want to be friends with robin and with el. el would like brittany but i think she'd also lose patience with her sometimes she'd just be like oh my god girl how are you this dumb. also el would be so excited to join a glee club and then be like why are we talking about rock salt slushies. i want to sing >:(.
speaking of brittany her and argyle would literally vibe so hard they would be best friends they'd adore each other. i think jonathan and mike chang could sit silently in a room together and be great friends.
speaking of mikes i think mike wheeler would find literally everybody in glee annoying he'd hate all of their asses so much. same goes for max dustin and erica all four of them would just be like 🤨🙄. MAYBE max could get along with santana quinn and brittany. through the power of cunt recognizing cunt.
i think will would also find everybody super annoying but he'd be like wow gay people... and overlook how annoying everybody is to hang out with blaine and kurt bc he's just that desperate for gay friends. and BRITTANY i think will would like brittany. also he and tina would probably get along!
unfortunately i do fear that murray and mr schue would get along. murray would be in his little old man singing club idk i don't remember that plot very well. joyce would maybe be friends w ms pillsbury but in that like "designated friend whose life is a mess" way. like they would Both look at each other and be like oh bless her heart.
eddie... ok hear me out i think eddie and mercedes could POTENTIALLY be pals depending on what season mercedes this is. if it's later in the show like yes they have a shot but if she's in her early-show crush on kurt era then absolutely not. anyway they both have this like innate sense of showmanship and independence and i think despite their differences they'd look at each other be like. respect. also eddie would bully finn So hard for being a football player but then they'd sing like a meat loaf song or something together and become besties.
lucas would perform a song for max btw. like if he were in an environment where he could serenade her he Absolutely would at every opportunity i know this for a fact.
also hopper would break mr schue's nose. possibly some fingers too.

“ you are enough. ”
It had been an interesting weekend. A Warbler reunion had Blaine reconnecting with some old friends, including, surprisingly, Sebastian Smythe. In some ways it was like no time had passed at all, even though they were older, and many things had. Sebastian still flirted with Blaine and when at the end of the night a late arriving Sebastian had discovered that his room reservation had disappeared, a tipsy, happy, nostalgic Blaine had offered to share his. His reservation was for a double queen and it wouldn’t be any different than if they’d been roommates at Dalton, he’d offered.
The first night they’d stayed up talking, each in their own beds, turned to face each other with one low lamp on. The next day they’d been almost inseparable during the reunion activities, despite the good humored teasing of their mutual friends. Blaine was onboard with the two of them exploring things, and he’d made his thoughts known when they returned to the room that evening. What he hadn’t expected, was Sebastian putting a stop to things at just making out.
Blaine had moved off Sebastian, went over to his own bed, and turned out the lights, feeling incredibly embarrassed. He’d turned his back to the other and the words were said so softly into the dark of the room that he almost hadn’t heard them. Except he had. He reached up with the heel of his hand and wiped at the wetness gathering on his lashes and let out a shuddering breath. Blaine turned around and looked at Sebastian.
“Don’t... don’t try to make me feel better,” Blaine whispered. “It doesn’t feel like it right now. I know we’re not the same young men we were back at Dalton, but I thought...” he trailed off. “It doesn’t matter. Obviously I was wrong.”

Why I personally don’t like that abusive parent trope in regards to Sebastian Smythe:
For context, although if you’ve been following my blog for longer than 24 hours you should know who this idiot is, but if not, this is Sebastian Smythe. He’s a 16-18 year old gay teenaged character from the musical-drama show, Glee. He attends the also fictional private school, Dalton Academy in Ohio, where he is the captain of their show choir, the warblers, and also on the lacrosse team. Let’s be real here, for those of you who know his character you’ll know that he’s a bit of a menace with a cocky attitude, and we love that for him. He starts out as one of the minor antagonists in Season 3, and after having a character arc segment midway through his time on the show, he becomes more of a sidelined grey-character, or even an anti-hero at a push.
Now just as a disclaimer I’d like to say that if you do hc his parents as neglectfully abusive, homophobic, assholes, that’s alright. It does make for an interesting story sometimes, and just as I am free to dislike the idea, you are all very much free to enjoy it. (I always love when people can enjoy things that I don’t because it means that the talent and potential poured into fics that use these tropes don’t go to waste!). And if you do really like this hc, and are suddenly worried about interacting with me because we differ in opinion, please don’t be. The topic of parents can be cut all together during personal interactions, and you only have to enjoy whatever content it is you actually follow me for that doesn’t involve them. And finally if you agree with this post you are more than welcome to reblog it, but I’m not personally looking for a debate here. I know how I feel about this hc and I’m not willing to change my mind, so if you don’t happen to agree with me, which is absolutely within your right, it would be better for everyone if you carried on scrolling. I’m not expecting this to get a lot of attention, the post is more just a way of informing my mutuals, readers and followers as to where I stand here, because my fics are very Sebastian centric and will involve his folks from time to time. Absolutely no hate meant to anyone who uses this trope either, I’m sure you’re wonderfully talented, I’m just trying to explain why it’s not my thing.
I also just wanted to say that I know the term abuse is a huge spectrum and can be executed in very different ways and at highly different levels, but the main categories I’ll be arguing my disagreement for in this post are physical and verbal abuse, despite the fact I don’t personally think Sebastian was being abused at all. I mean absolutely no disrespect when I talk about these subjects, and can completely rationalise that every case is different, both fictionally and in person, this is not meant to demean anyone who may have been in a situation like this in any way, shape or form.
But with that all established, let’s move on as to why I really dislike this trope, for a character like Sebastian at least:
1) The excuses.
In a huge majority of the abusive Mr/s Smythe fics I’ve read over my time in the glee fandom, the neglect and abuse is more often than not used as a scapegoat for Sebastian’s terrible actions at the beginning of the show, brushing them aside to “he acts the way he does because his parents hit him/hate him. It’s not actually his fault.” It’s used as a way of clearing Sebastian’s messy history to make the character seem more victimised, and as a result, likeable. To me, it feels like an easy way out of his behaviour, and doesn’t tend to hit the desired effect.
As a person who likes delving into the gritty dynamic of a complex character, which Sebastian has the potential to be, I feel this trope is just too easy and almost paints actual abusive situations in a lighter, more…not so serious matter as a result, (which I’m sure is nobody’s intention of course!) mainly because it’s never addressed in proper context. Holding characters like Sebastian accountable for their actions, no matter what is going on that we or other characters cannot see, is extremely important, both morally and creatively, and I find this is done best with internal struggles over external situations. Not only does it aide his development by not letting excuses take the fall for his bratty actions, but I’ve found that situating a more personal ‘reason’ for his behaviour does a better job at humanising (not victimising) him rather than if we were to pull out an overused hc, it pushes home how ‘normal’ (by the standard of your average mentally ill queer /lh) he has the potential to be, which indirectly makes it easier to coerce this alongside other plot lines, especially in ship-fics. We are all human, we all make mistakes and have done awful things, Sebastian’s actions got out of control in comparison to your average teenager, yes, but we can see from circumstantial evidence that he admits to it, both positively and negatively in the end. (I have more to say on this but it’s straying from the topic at hand.) However I say again, when such a big event like child abuse is used in a similar sense, it’s much harder to push that redeeming narrative because where is the personal development?
(I agree that getting over an abusive situation is usually packed full of development both irl and fictionally, but when I say personal development here what I’m suggesting towards is the growth of a character getting over something either self inflicting, internal, something that while linked to other people isn’t life threatening, or just something similar along those lines. Something that, in a physical principle, they’ve never been able to walk away from because it’s tied to them at their very core, it’s them. Narratives like this are easier to root up growth for Sebastian because it is up to him specifically to want improvement. But when the toxicity comes from an outside source on a grand scale, faults and improvements are elsewhere and not directly on him, leaving may be a struggle but he himself is no longer the root of the ‘issue’, which pulls away his own development to an extent.)
Now, I’m sure it’s obvious that I think Sebastian was having his own issues at this point in his life, especially because we see how genuine he actually can be in ‘On My Way’, which leads me to believe that his mentality was a product of a source we weren’t made aware of in the show. But as an outsider, I just don’t think the matter at hand was hugely drastic in comparison to the likes of abuse. For those of you who have read or spoken to me about the beginnings of my fic, ‘A Glance Through The Hourglass’, you might see where I’m going with this. I think the drastic difference between some internal, unknown issues and “I’m being abused” sets up an extreme variety of reasons as to why Sebastian is the way he is. However, an intramural issue, something that due to his image and situation he wouldn’t want to share and would then cover with his behaviour, used as a somewhat disorderly coping mechanism that went overboard, opens up a field of malleable circumstances that can be used without excusing his actions, and this could be a myriad of things, maybe multiple at a time. I’m going to add on my own thoughts to the example here (so we’re straying from hardcore canon for a moment):
I’m not going to diminish how hard it is to pull yourself out of a dark place when you’re at such a difficult point in your life, and especially when we take into consideration Sebastian’s circumstances (new everything, school, country, friends, house, and operating under the fact his dad has just won the election for SA he is suddenly going to be very busy too, (see the point BP v AP for explanation there)), I’m sure that whatever was going on with him could’ve been extremely rough. But when these issues are internal to you alone, and as stern as this is about to sound as a sufferer myself I know this must be heard to push for growth, it is up to you and professionals to help get you out of that mental position. It doesn’t come from an outside source that you can eliminate, you have to work for it yourself. Although you feel lost, you can regain that control, and it is easier (as a writer) to manipulate the situation to fit both a compelling issue for Sebastian as a character, which would give reason for his awful behaviour and change of heart, while still having him take responsibility for his actions in the show. In comparison to the likes of him being abused, that is very much out of his hands, and getting out of that situation can be extremely difficult and debilitating, it also takes the responsibility of his behaviour off of his shoulders due to extremities and the fact he isn’t the ‘problem’ himself. Which leads me on to my next point.
2) Injustices and overpowering.
(Just to say here, I am generalising in this section. Out there I have come across a few fics that use this storyline and manage to do it well, but I’m speaking for the likelihood majority backed up by probability as a writer.)
I think these storylines can work well when they’re done right, with the perfect amount of attention on each section and how they all fit together in the end, and I also think they can be done right when it’s the focal point of the conflict, ie: “partner falls in love with Sebastian while helping him escape an abusive situation,” because it’s the bonding climax. Unfortunately it’s very rarely that this happens, and that has nothing to do with the writers (you’re all very talented!!) and more to do with the huge amounts of mindfulness both storylines need. Here are my reasonings:
Managing a ship-based fic with the side story of an abusive home life always equals out to one story not receiving it’s justice, something is always overshadowed because both events are such huge issues, especially if the story is developing the relationship from the beginning. (so for me as a kurtbastian shipper, it takes a lot to develop their relationship because it’s an enemies to lovers situation, it needs a lot of time and consideration which is hard to divide between an abusive parents storyline.)
If you focus on the Smythe half of the story, you’ll get a really well fleshed out overcoming fic, with a not so great development between Sebastian and his love interest, and if you focus on the ship, you’ll have a beautifully executed love story, with a sideline plot that feels underdeveloped and therefore, not done it’s justice as a circumstance or a story. Situations like this have to be done justice out of respect, and that can be difficult to manage. But even when they are managed correctly, there are still a few issues, such as:
3) The cliches.
Here’s not to say that the ‘rich children having borderline no relationship with their parents’ issue doesn’t happen, because I believe this can be common in all economical societies (look at Puck and Quinn to name a few examples,) but especially in fiction, I personally feel it’s gotten to a point where the desired effect this storyline intends to have with somebody like Sebastian (the antagonist) almost has no meaning anymore because it’s expected and even anticipated, which can sometimes make for a drab plot.
I’m not saying it can’t be used just because it’s been done before, but I am saying it becomes less and less valuable the more it happens. Before I developed my own ideas for the Smythe’s and started using my own version of how I see them in my head whenever I read fics, it became such a repetitive notion that it quickly grew stale. Once again I’m not saying this is a reason why these tropes shouldn’t be used, if this is what you like I’m sure you’re having a wonderful time with all of this media, I just think turning the tables slightly and giving a character like Sebastian a different home life to what you’d expect seems much more compelling, and would help readers engage better with a fic because they’re being kept of their toes for new information.
But with the statistical and writers approach points out of the way, here are a few research based points/my own gathered knowledge in co-existence with the show as to why I dislike this trope. Tiny disclaimer, a lot of my arguments here are backed up by fact, and I suppose you guys could immediately debunk me and say “well it’s a fictional show so I don’t have to listen to that.” And you’re absolutely right, it is a fictional show and I am the type of person who will define her characters to a shiny edge just to make sure everything fits as it should in the ‘real world’, not everybody is like that and that’s absolutely okay, I recognise that, but as I said before this is why I don’t like this trope, and as an analytical-soon-to-be pysch student with a taste for the idiocy of the American Supreme Court, these issues are justified to me, and mayhaps me alone. Alongside this I’m hoping to clear up some common misconceptions deprived from the show, which also relate as to why I don’t believe this trope to be too likely.
4) Busy parents VS abuse parents.
(First of all, I love this photo so much. Anyone who knows me will tell you it’s probably my favourite Sebastian photo. He looks so mad and for what 👏 god it makes me chuckle.)
Now right off the bat we have to recognise that we don’t actually know what Sebastian’s mother does for work. We don’t actually know if she works, or if she is even alive. My personal go-to is surgeon, I may explain why in my conclusion, but again, overall we don’t know anything about her so I’m working solely with Mr Smythe’s canon job in this regard.
(This point is simply law rambling, please skip if you’re not interested, it’s just to add context). Since Sebastian doesn’t say his Dad is the ‘State’s Attorney General’ and simply ‘A State’s Attorney’ (which are different jobs,) we can only presume this means he is the southern Ohioan District Attorney, which is also quite commonly known as the State’s Attorney. These types of attorneys represent a group of counties, usually divided into northern and southern of the state, in high legal cases committed in their areas, they have huge amounts of influential decisions to make, and are responsible for handling many prosecutions. (Fun little fact, they’re also the only broad attorneys able to participate in grand jury proceedings, which I think is kinda cool.) The State’s Attorney is also the leader of a group of prosecutors, who are known as Deputy District Attorneys, and SA holds overall responsibility for what happens amongst their firms and these groups of DDAs in court. In Ohio they are elected in throughout the local voters, and they serve for four years. For more information on this occupation I suggest a quick Google search or you could drop me a dm/ask where I’d go into more detail, as I don’t want to drag on about my law knowledge when frankly no one asked.
But anyways, after a bit of extra research on the jobs these people usually have before they’re elected, how many hours they work a week in both occupations, and reading through a few personal experiences actual lawyers themselves have posted about, I discovered that while they are extremely busy, work-centric and persevering people, they do still have time to sit down with the family for dinner most nights, one particular experience from a lawyer I read said that he still managed to tuck his kids into bed whenever he could, and had enough time a month to put a weekend or two aside strictly for the family. Yes, sometimes work got in the way, he said there were many days where he worked over, he may have missed a soccer game every once in a while, and sometimes weekly, potentially monthly, long business trips would take him away from the family, but if we take this experience, alongside many others, it’s very rarely that a lawyer or attorney occupation leads to a point of neglect, which is something I see used all of the time between Sebastian and his father in fics. Making Mr Smythe’s entire personality ‘I am too busy with work for my child’ doesn’t quite correlate because while his job does keep him extremely occupied, especially after winning the election for SA, his occupation alone isn’t enough for him to become neglectful, realistically at least. If this is a narrative you really want to push, I’d suggest have him spend his extra time elsewhere, but overall, it just doesn’t fit with the logistics of his job.
Personally, I can absolutely see Mr Smythe’s schedule growing busier after becoming the State’s Attorney, especially for the first few months, which would have a negative affect on Sebastian. This correlates well with his behavioural issues when he is first brought into the show, but I seriously don’t believe it would be driven to a point of neglect. Whether he is still accounting for a certain amount of family time or not, his ‘promotion’ still leads to a big step up in court. But being a busy parent, especially to a teenager, does not make you neglectful or abusive. It can be insanely hard, on both parties I’d like to assume, but at the end of the day why should he have to decline an insane job opportunity because he has a son? That’s the story that I’ve seen pushed on more than one occasion.
Not to mention, the idea of his mother and father suddenly becoming busier than he’s used to supports the idea that Sebastian’s parents aren’t going to notice him sneaking out over the weekend to go underage drinking, it’s a new ledge of confidence for him that he wouldn’t have been able to explore beforehand, and I think that’s how he gets in way over his head, but again that’s not what this post is about.
5) The evidence
As I said above we don’t actually hear much about Sebastian’s parents in the show at all, we get one line that gives us an occupation, and overall it’s an insinuated concept that they’re an extremely wealthy family, and he’s very use to getting his own way. I’m working with the very thin evidence I can, and most of this is speculation, not completely set in stone.
So first of all I want to address the occupational line “You see, my Dad is sorta what you’d call a State’s Attorney.” Maybe the boy is just an incredible actor, but here I see no reason to suspect he’s living in an abusive household, no quiver, no apprehension, just pure confidence. You’re probably thinking ‘you can’t assume all that from one throw away, taunting, threat line, especially when Seb’s surface level personality is cocky confidence,’ and you’re right, I can’t, especially because he was using it to threaten someone and, frankly be a bit of a jerk, but pulling together the info I do know and can work with its very unlikely that he would be willing to use such an intense place of power as a safety net if he knew his dad wasn’t actually going to provide that security for him, joke or not. What if Santana did go ‘all Lima heights’ and attempt to beat the crap out of him? What would be the plan of action if he didn’t actually have that underlying safety? Not to mention the following line is “I bet he could make sure that (a piñata) got to them,” again shows us no indication of resentment or ‘fear’. If anything, it shows that Sebastian’s parents, maybe his father specifically, would do anything if he so much as asked. Yes I’m still aware this line was meant more to taunt Santana instead of giving us a Sebastian backstory but I’m working with what I can, and this line aides the confirmed notion that Sebastian is very use to getting his own way, which is disclosed in his constant attempts to pursue Blaine, even after being turned down, and his desperation to win regionals. Traits like that are very much often a product of one’s childhood, which then correlates well to his Dalton tuition, the car he must have to travel from Westerville to Lima and to Scandals all the damn time, and the gas he’s got to be putting into said car for these journeys. Parents with a lot of money and child who’s use to getting whatever he wants? Screams spoiled to me, not abused.
(This is unrelated but one of my favourite hc’s is that Sebastian was so bummed out about the move from Paris to Ohio, which honestly even I’d be the same, that his dad notices and feels really bad because this change is inevitable due to his job, so he’s like “…if I got you a car in America, would it cheer you up? Any car you want, I’ll get it for you.” And Sebastian is just like “😔 a Porsche would maybe help.” Like idk why that’s pure gold to me, but it is.)
We also know that while Sebastian didn’t get into trouble with the authorities for what he did to Blaine’s eye, I’d say it’s pretty safe to assume the Anderson’s must’ve complained to someone on behalf of their son, whether that be Dalton or Sebastian’s parents directly. We know that McKinley did nothing, (because when do they ever) but Blaine never once discloses that their wasn’t an attempt of his parents part, and realistically I don’t think that’s much of a stretch to make. Now whether the situation was covered well by Mr Smythe himself or not, or if he was involved did he do it because he loves his son and knows he’s better than that, or because he just wants to salvage his name, that’s all up to the reader in question and their opinions. However, the fact that we see Sebastian still up to his usual antics when it comes to the photoshopped Finn pictures would suggest he hasn’t been scared or beaten into behaving. My personal go to is that an argument must’ve broken out amongst father and son, which would’ve left Sebastian annoyed because he’s essentially not use to being told ‘no’ or rightfully punished by his parents, and then that would’ve escalated into a further act of rebellion, equalling out to the Finn photos and him making that offhanded comment at Karofsky. I have more to say on this, but again that’s for another time.
6) Money.
Here’s a little bit of context concerning the differences between New Money and Old Money before I get into it’s relation with the Smythe’s. Old money is the type of wealth that has been passed down for generations amongst well-off families, it’s an inheritance of luxury rather than a self-earned income, and more often than not it defines a family as an instant upper class. Whereas new money is a type of income that comes from self earnings, their millions are very much due to their own hard work. Although a common example of new money earners are the likes of movie stars and entrepreneurs, it can be anyone who has made a harsh hand of wealth on their own skill and grinding within their occupation. While families who come from old money tend to not see their wealth as ‘just for them’, but for their family as a whole because they tend to pass this inheritance to the next generation, new money ascenders seem to be the opposite, choosing to spend their hard earned cash frivolously in the here and now. It is also a common practice for new money owners to be quite loud about their earnings, buying on whims and flaunting their extravagances, whereas people who come from old money know their fortune will speak for itself, even if they don’t shy away from prowling in their upper class status from time to time. And now you must be wondering, where do the Smythe’s fit on this scale of old money to new money? Well, from what we can gather from canon, we actually have no physical evidence that Sebastian’s family originates from old money at all. Is it insanely likely? Oh absolutely, I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest, but while we don’t have anything to back that claim up, we do have circumstantial proof that Sebastian’s main income of wealth stems from his parents jobs, making their currency a type of new money, and here is why I think that is influential:
A District Attorneys salary is averaged up to around $76k a year, but they can make up to as much as $178k, now when we think about it, this is just Sebastian’s dads earnings and we have no idea what kind of bank his mom is bringing to the table. How does this link to abuse/lack there of? A lot of speculation surrounding the Smythe’s often originates from the typical view that ‘they must come from old money, and are therefore awfully privileged people who come from generations of assholes, which also makes them assholes’, and like I said earlier, while I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Mr Smythe did come from an old money family, but based alone upon the job we know he has, and therefore the income we know he earns, if this is the case he actually has his feet in both pools, he’s working smart and circulating each world. Like I said, is it likely that he comes from a wealthy family? Yeah, look at where Sebastian goes to school and look at where they’ve lived, and do I hc it too? Yeah I do, (without the ‘asshole’ connotation, at least on Mr/s Smythe’s part,) but we actually don’t have any canon proof that this is the case, we have no evidence they actually come from an old money background full of snobby rich Thomas-Jefferson like poeple. However just from Mr Smythe’s job title alone we know he is bringing in a huge income, which means he’s definitely circulating the new money systems at least, and it’s overtones. What are new money earners? Rich little flaunters. Who is a rich little flaunter? Sebastian. Who wouldn’t be able to flaunt his fathers rich earnings if he was being unfairly punished and abused, therefore having little to no access to these funds? Also Sebastian.
7) LGBT rights.
Can confirm, here I’m just listing a lot of dates, and from those dates I’ve made some probable assumptions, this doesn’t really have much to do with the post at hand other than proving that throughout these time periods progression was upon us, and people were changing for the better despite all of the hatred in the world. There is nothing mentioned in canon about Mr/s Smythe’s thoughts on Sebastian’s sexuality, we don’t even know if they know (I think it’s pretty obvious, but I also think it’s pretty dang obvious that I’m queer and my parents have only just started speculating, so who’s to say really?), so I really am just laying down some dates and making some comparisons to the canon approach in glee.
First of all some confirmed supportive adult allies to the LGBT+ community in glee are: Burt (actual icon), Carole, Sue, Will, Emma, Beiste, Roz, Pam, Leroy and Hiram, Isabelle, Unique’s parents, Paul Karofsky, Figgins (?), and Santana’s parents. Some confirmed not so supportive adults are Santana’s Abuela, Karofsky’s mother, and Blaine’s Dad. I know Abuela eventually comes around (not necessarily to supporting gays but wanting to be there for Santana), and Blaine’s Dad isn’t a confirmed homophobe, we just know he’s not exactly thrilled about the situation. This is just proof that at this point in time it wasn’t uncommon for people to be supportive, and those who weren’t were very susceptible to change and/or still made room to love their children despite differing opinions in sexuality. I also know that the world was and still is full of hatred, like I said this point really means nothing in my debate because as much as I could say “look, statistics good,” you can’t put a number on hate. But I will say that:
Being gay was legalised in 1974 in Ohio, and in 1980 in New York. In Paris, it was 1971, and France was actually labelled one of the most progressive countries in regards to LGBT+ support. If Sebastian’s parents had him around their late twenties/early thirties as most people did in the 90s, they would’ve been in their preteens-early teens at best when these things were going on. We don’t know how this relates to their opinion, as we don’t have any canon context, but young people of a higher privilege are much more impressionable to change because they have less ground to stand due to already established protection. In most cases they don’t quite care, as long as a spectacle isn’t made before the tide has changed. I’m not saying that that mentality is okay, it’s also not exactly how I picture his parents to think, but I’m saying it’s inherently better than a homophobic bigot who throws around slurs. Again, not much can be said here, it’s just an observation to think about.
8) My thoughts.
So by now you must be wondering “alright summer, we got it, you don’t like the abusive parent trope, you can stop shoving it down our throats. But if so, what exactly do you hc?” (I’m kidding, no one’s thinking that last bit, but am I still going to tell you? I absolutely am.)
Family is and always will be very important to me as a person and a writer, whether I’m writing for a romantic ship, a platonic friendship, or even just a childhood fic, the main character(s)’s family means a lot to me, both for the development and for my own background knowledge. This is why as soon as I took an interest in Sebastian I got to work exploring his parental relationships and their potential dynamics, (which is actually how I gathered the majority of the research for this post, although I’m also just a loser who knows a lot about lawyers). I have a Google doc dedicated to how I planned Sebastian’s life pre-Dalton, all the way back to his parents first meeting in college, and if anybody would be interested in looking at that please feel free to ask me because I would absolutely love to discuss exactly how I see the two of them. But, until then, to keep this short and sweet, I see Sebastian’s parents as busy, very work centric, but still loving and extremely spoiling people, especially towards their son. I think they try and make as much time for Sebastian as they possibly can, but when they find themselves overrun with work they fill the gap with material gifts, like (in his childhood) toys, expensive clothes, gadgets, and eventually a car. It’s a simple means of ‘we have the money to give him whatever he wants, so we’re going to do exactly that.’ I have many different reasons as to why I think he is as spoiled as he is, ranging from Sebastian being what is known as a ‘miracle child’ to the differentiation in how his parents were raised, but I won’t go on about it too much here, so once again, if you’re interested, drop me a DM. Individually though, this is how I see both Mr and Mrs Smythe.
Sebastian’s father: I picture him to be the type of person to be quite family oriented, but still extremely work dedicated and a determined lawyer, which is why he’s a role model to his son. His job doesn’t allow him too much flexibility in regards to when he works, so while he puts in as much effort as he can in his free time, sometimes work can be a hinderance (but again, not to the point of neglect). Equally, between him and his wife, I see Sebastian actually having his dad wrapped up around his finger in comparison to his mom, who I picture to be a little sterner. (maybe that “I bet he could make sure that got to them” line stuck with me a little too much, considering it’s context.) And overall I see him as the slow-burner parent, one it takes a lot to anger, Sebastian has to really push his luck in order to disappoint his dad, but if he does happen to get mad (ie: after the slushy incident) he’s going to simmer in it for a little while, which I think would cause healthy conflict between father and son. They’re close, so when somethings gotten between them, you know its no joke.
Whereas in regards to Sebastian’s mother, as I previously said I see her as the more hotheaded, ‘sparky’ parent, the type of person who can be quite argumentative and headstrong (which is where Sebastian gets it from), but tends to come down easier, which resolves problems quicker. While her husband is reluctant to punish Sebastian unless it’s something serious, she is quick to reprimand his bratty quips and bad attitude. As a person I see her as very work motivated and not at all fussed about family life, that is until she actually has Sebastian, and despite the fact that I see them as very similar in regards to personality, which means they happen to clash quite often, she adores him with her whole heart. I think they both do.
However, no matter how spoiled I picture Sebastian to be, his parents are not pushovers. He is not getting away with extremities, like the slushy ordeal, and even though I am forcefully set in my ideas about these people not being abusive, I still think there’s going to be arguments and disagreements, especially when it comes to these sorts of things. Not only are arguments common in all families, but when it comes to appropriately punishing a child who is so use to getting away with everything, it’s going to spark a conflict. Which is one of the few reasons I feel Sebastian continued pushing his luck when it came to the New Directions, things were cracking at the seams due to his own actions, and his determination to come out on top dug him a hole he couldn’t climb out of without admitting he was in the wrong and apologising.
I have developed a lot of ideas as to why I think Sebastian Smythe is the way he is, varying from the likes of internal mental issues, rebellious freedom, his parents getting busier, and in general just his over confidence in himself and determination to win. But you know what? No reason will ever be ‘reason’ enough for the crap he was pulling back then, nothing he was facing makes blinding Blaine or being rude to Karofsky or the Finn photos acceptable. I just like to think these side stories make his redemption- something that he had to learn to deal with instead of taking out his losses elsewhere- all the more sweeter, because at the end of the day, he has to want it. (Shameless plug but my fic ‘The Family I Found At Dalton.’ starts to explain the surface of this relationship despite the fact chapter one is about Nick Duval, and chapter two will delve much deeper into Seb when I get around to finishing it.)
I’ve made the in-depths of the Parisian move and Sebastian’s coming out far too complex to discuss in this already huge post, so again I say, if you wanted to see a different opinionated take on how that would work without abusive plots, please ask, because I have a lot to say.
Also I have dubbed Sebastian’s parents as Nathaniel and Gabrielle because them having long, French names you can shorten just like Sebastian makes my heart do the flips. It has been actual hell not referring to them by those names this entire essay by the way.
9) Conclusion.
At the end of the day, we know nothing about these two people as individuals, canonically we don’t know their names or their personalities, or their relationships with Sebastian, and as Glee is a fictional show with awfully inconsistent storylines and correlations to the real world, if we went back in time and gave the writing team this post, they would most likely just ignore every point I made in favour of doing their own thing, which yknow what? They’re entitled to do so, just like you guys are. Every point I’ve made today can be ignored simply because you like the trope, and that’s awesome for you. I don’t want it to seem like I’m trying to sway anyone or be inconsiderate to those who like this hc, that’s the beauty of fanfic, you can make and enjoy whatever you like and avoid the stuff you don’t. This was simply a way for me to express why I’m not a fan of this ‘popular’ idea, why I don’t think it personally works in context of the occupational knowledge I have and the impact it has on Sebastian’s development, and that be all. I’m very set in my ways about this personally, and I’m exceptionally attached to my version of Seb’s parents (Jamie and Hannah will tell you,) because like I said, family and originality mean everything to me as a writer, and as my discord friends know, I spent and still am spending a lot of time fleshing them out with original flaws and highlights of their own.
But with that, if you managed to make it through my nonsense, I hope you enjoyed the read and can understand, or at least respect, where I’m coming from. And if not, I at least hope you liked the random sprinkle of Sebastian photos/gifs throughout the post. This was both a joy and a nightmare to write, I kept wanting to disclaim my intentions out of fear of upsetting someone while still analysing my points to the best of my ability in hopes of doing them the justice I believe they deserve, so I do hope I’ve managed to accomplish that. I’m sorry it’s quite an off-putting chunk of text, I talk way too much for my own good.

"The male Santana": the unholy trinity of gay bullies (no, not that one)
[This was originally a post on r/glee but posting on here as well]
So we pretty much all know that Ryan Murphy famously described Sebastian as "the male Santana", right? I can't cite this because Glee Wiki almost never cites sources but if you can provide a link, please do. For now, let's just work with this quote without that definitive proof of its existence. Now, I have a bone to pick with this, not just because it's further proof to me that Mr. Murphy didn't, fundamentally, understand his own characters but because I sometimes see fans draw this same conclusion. Sebastian is basically a male Santana. Look, they're both sassy and gay and love to insult or outright bully people! And it's like, whatever, it's a surface-level read but not invalid, as such. What does bother me a bit is that Glee does actually have a "male Santana" who appeared way before Sebastian did and had an actual arc that thematically paralleled Santana's so perfectly in so many ways.
Sebastian Smythe isn't the male Santana; Dave Karofsky is. Here's why.
Karofsky's and Santana's stories run parallel throughout season 2 and they even reach the same crossroads as they become each other's beards. Consider Dave's journey: he begins as your typical jock and bully, his insults feeling very homophobic and targeted from the getgo. He spends all his screentime in season 1 bullying Finn with Azimio for being in Glee and we see a glimpse of how the two treat Kurt in "Theatricality". Karofsky is deliberate and cruel in his treatment of anything he perceives to be different from the norm. In season 2, this becomes even more targeted as he now focuses much if not all of his energy on Kurt, even as Azimio has chilled out a little bit. But not Karofsky; it seems as if Kurt's mere existence as an out gay guy is enough to set him off and escalate his already horrid behaviour. What we find out when Kurt stands up to him is that Karofsky himself is gay, and from there come all the implications. From there, we can clearly see where all that anger towards the non-conforming, the queer was coming from.
Let's switch to Santana for a second, to catch her up to mid-season 2 and also to establish something. To be clear, I'm not saying Dave and Santana both being bullies hold equal weight or both should be condemned, or even forgiven equally. You see, while Santana is very much also a bully, it's a different category altogether and I don't see much value in comparing the two. Except for establishing that while it comes from the same basic place for both of them, Dave's behaviour has always been targeted and specific, and notably extreme, while Santana's bullying tendencies aren't specifically homophobic or even against the non-conforming, and she certainly isn't picky about her targets. Like I said, different behaviours, both because of their differing personalities and importantly because of their gender and circumstances. All that said I do want to make a distinction between Santana's mean, at times even cruel comments and petty actions, and Karofsky's particular brand of abuse of Kurt which included a threat on Kurt's life. Pretending that even at her worst Santana was Dave in early season 2 levels bad would be pretty disingenuous.
So that out of the way, Santana. Santana's journey in the first two seasons is about navigating the high school social hierarchy while negotiating her own identity as a lesbian within that. At first, it's all about hooking up with boys and only being with Brittany for the male gaze, or as something that doesn't mean anything. (More on Santana and her comphet another day.) As the series goes on and she's not only confronted with what her relationship with Brittany really means but also her facade of being with men crumbling, she grows desperate and even more angry than she's been so far. Because she has been angry, she's been so at odds with herself ever since she first appeared.
Both Dave and Santana are so angry to have grown up in a world where being gay is not okay. Where their true feelings have been repressed from early on and where they learned how to conform. Dave put up this super macho front and lashed out at anyone who dared to strain from that, reaffirming his own standing as a straight guy both to the outside world and himself. Santana started getting with guys to reaffirm the same, while also earning herself a high social status in the process as the hot cheerleader who "never says no" and makes out with another hot cheerleader. And her anger about not being her true self, like with Karofsky, was externalized in a way that hurt anyone and everyone, especially those who dared to question this illusion she created - for example, her lashing out at Brittany when Britt wants to talk about what they have going on.
All of this takes them to late season 2, where Santana is doing mental gymnastics trying to figure out a way to be with Brittany without having to be vulnerable and open about her identity, and where Dave has been so taken aback by Kurt's bravery and his new relationship with Blaine. The Santofsky ~relationship~ is obviously fake and comes about in a really messed up way, with Santana blackmailing Dave, but it's still a narrative crossroads where these two finally meet and enable each other to hide themselves. One could argue that they at least stop their cruel treatment of others, with Santana getting Dave to apologize to Kurt and they even form the Bully Whips - ironic, of course, what with the two of them being a major part of McKinley's bullying problem.
But still, the fake relationship stops both of them from having to confront reality. Santana has the opportunity to be with Brittany, openly, but she can't. Even though the whole Karofsky beard thing was a convoluted plan supposedly about getting with Brittany, here Santana is continuing the lie instead. And it's not like it isn't a comfortable lie for Dave, that is until he's elected as the Prom King to Kurt's Prom Queen and runs away out of the same fear that made Santana run earlier.
One could argue their similarities extend beyond season 2. In season 3, both are outed under different circumstances and both their lives change drastically because of that. Neither were ready; neither deserved what happened to them. It's one of the many Glee things I'm forever sad about that we never got to see Santana react to the Karofsky situation in season 3. But regardless of the fact that their paths never again cross, we do eventually see both grow into their own identities and lead much happier, calmer lives.
After all that it almost feels redundant to point out that Sebastian has none of that. He's a cocky, very openly (homo)sexual guy who's flirting with Blaine so unabashedly. Meanwhile, Santana is melting into puddles when pretty girls stare at her for too long and stutters with underboob sweat when she's being flirted with. Yes, they're both confident in their insults and stand their ground against each other, "one bitch to another", but their clever quips and willingness to be dramatic is where the similarities begin and end. Sebastian never struggles with his identity nor does he go through meaningful change. Thematically he doesn't even begin to compare to Dave.
And look, there's nothing wrong with liking Sebastian and Santana's dynamic and thinking their scenes are good, or that Sebastian has a similar energy to Santana in his confidence during verbal takedowns. But is he the male Santana? Or is he the more conventionally attractive guy who had a charged duet with her during a brief rivalry, while Dave Karofsky's journey actually paralleled and crossed hers?
(Obligatory disclaimer that just because I think Santana's and Dave's struggles are understandable given the internalized homophobia they struggle with, their actions aren't justified or excused because of this. Their stories are compelling because we can empathize with them while also acknowledging their actions as wrong and harmful, and root for them to get better and get to a point where they don't take their anger out on others but can instead find happiness, comfortable in their identities.)

Only Seventeen
i wrote this three days ago but am just now proofreading and publishing. fic takes place around season 4, but i used a song not released until 2020 (oops) but i am keeping it this way anyway because it is a perfect fit. song is taylor swift’s “betty” and gave me major seblaine vibes when i was listening to it the other day. so bare with me on that aspect! :)
summary: blaine hosts a holiday party and invites friends from both schools (season 4 era). still unable to forgive himself, sebastian chooses to not go. that is, until he hears “betty” on the radio and drives to blaine’s before he can stop himself.
pairing: blaine anderson x sebastian smythe
word count: ~3.3k
warnings: none; fluffy :)
The last class of the day draws to a close and the Dalton Academy choir room is soon filled with boys eager to start practice. Still planning songs for Regionals, several are on their phones or MP3s looking for the perfect setlist. Hunter sits at the head of the table, a white cat on his lap, admiring the crowd. Before he can address the bunch and propose an idea of what to sing, Wes comes strolling in, letter in hand.
“Is that the competition?” Someone pipes up.
“Nope, it’s from Blaine. He handed it to me while I was on a coffee run this afternoon.”
Curiosity is sparked all around the room.
“Well, what does it say?” Another asks.
Surrounded by his teammates, Wes opens the letter. “It reads, ‘the Warblers are invited to a house party at the Anderson home this Saturday night. Arrive at 7 p.m. I want to celebrate the approaching holiday with friends, new and old’”
Trent is the first to respond, “nothing is keeping me from going! I miss seeing Blaine.” His comment receives several nods in agreement.
Then, Hunter says what many of them were thinking, but were afraid to mention, “do you think the New Directions will be there? New and old sounds like we may be in the company of public schoolers.”
“I think you’re right. But it’s Blaine.” Jeff responds.
The nodding returns; the boys still want to see their friend.
“So should I text Blaine and say we’ll all be there?” Wes asks the group, pulling out his phone.
A clamor of ‘yes’, ‘definitely’ and ‘anything for Blaine’ erupts throughout the room. However a small voice of “I don’t think I should” interrupts the excitement.
Heads turn in the direction of where they heard the rejection. Sitting awkwardly, half on a desk, was Sebastian. He wore a sad look on his face, like it was killing him to say that.
There was a stunned silence as his fellow Warblers tried to come up with a way to reassure or counteract his comment. Nick finally stepped forward, telling him, “I’m sure it’s okay you go. Blaine’s forgiven you.”
The taller boy shakes his head, “I can’t. Even if Blaine has, I still can’t face him. And I don’t think his friends will appreciate my appearance, either.”
“I’ll tell him you’re unsure.”
“Wes, don’t, just…” He can’t come up with anything. He doesn’t want to say ‘no’ and break his own heart, but he can’t say ‘yes’ and show up like he didn’t hurt the boy he loves. “Can we just start practice?”
The text is sent anyway. “We’ll be there. Sebastian is a maybe.” Wes sets down his phone without reading his reply aloud. The boys shuffle around uncomfortably until Hunter tosses his cat to the ground and claps, signaling to get in places. Setlist ideas are discussed, then the Warblers spring into action. A few numbers are performed, trying out new dance moves and deciding which songs are right for the competition. The boys are dismissed an hour later, and disappear in different directions for the rest of the day.
At nearly five o’clock, Sebastian heads to the Lima Bean for coffee before a long study session that will last until the late hours of the night. He had just finished Warblers and lacrosse practice and was feeling super tired, but needed to get his work done. The song playing immediately catches his attention when he enters,
Betty, I won't make assumptions About why you switched your homeroom but I think it's 'cause of me Betty, one time I was riding on my skateboard When I passed your house It's like I couldn't breathe
He stands in the line to order, checking his watch and debating in his head what he should study first. The singer’s melodic voice floats in his head and makes him feel both nervous and nostalgic. When he gets to the counter, he stutters on his first word before getting out his order to the worker. She doesn’t seem to care, nor mind, and he’s grateful for that. She only gives him a smile, takes his card, and calls out his order to the girls behind her. Sebastian smiles in response after receiving his card back, then goes to wait in the corner.
With the short interaction over, his mind is brought back to the lyrics carried throughout the speakers,
Betty, I know where it all went wrong Your favorite song was playing From the far side of the gym I was nowhere to be found I hate the crowds, you know that Plus, I saw you dance with him
Concentrated on the lyrics, he lets himself imagine what the singer could be referencing. Maybe she was remembering her first high school dance, or an evening she had she spent with someone she loved deeply. It seemed she was recalling old memories of people from her past. He thinks about his own life – memories he shared with his oldest friends who he had left behind in Paris, more recent ones with those he made at Dalton. He has a tendency to lose people, too. He lost his friends when he moved to the States, and he had lost his first true love in the worst possible way.
You heard the rumors from Inez You can't believe a word she says Most times, but this time it was true The worst thing that I ever did Was what I did to you
Suddenly, he feels sick. It was as if the universe knew he made an unforgivable mistake and was trying to remind him. He needs no reminder, though, and felt the pain of his poor decision every day. When he hears his name called, his feet move fast to grab the cup and leave the café. He fumbles with his keys once he reaches his car, dropping them on the ground. Sebastian sighs and finally takes a minute to breath. He stares at the keys on the asphalt and runs his hands through his hair, still messy from his after-practice shower.
By the time he gets his bearings, his fingers are red from the cold November air. He shivers, hair still slightly wet and neck bare of any insulation. A chill that runs through his body is enough to shock him back into the present moment. The boy leans down to grab his keys, then finally start up the car and drive away. The ride back is silent. His fingers are too cold to worry about the buttons and his mind is preoccupied with the day’s events.
A deep breath is released when Sebastian finds a parking spot not too far from his dorm and makes it up to his room without being noticed. The lights are off inside, meaning he would be alone. His roommate, Nick, was probably in Jeff’s room again, watching another movie together like they did almost every night. Sebastian sets his coffee down on his nightstand, then changes into a pair of sweatpants with a loose t-shirt. He moves his textbooks from under the bed to on top of it, and takes a notebook and pen out from his bag. For the next five hours, the young boy studies until too tired to comprehend anything else. He took a break to grab a snack from the cafeteria around seven thirty, and was interrupted by a yelling down the hall at ten, but was otherwise completely focused. He was glad for this. It wasn’t always easy for him to block out his thoughts, especially when they were running rampant and wild. Tonight, though, he was able, despite the anxiety filling his head. At some point around eleven, he passed out, still surrounded by textbooks and with a pen in his hand.
~ © ~
It had been two days since the invitation was received. The boys were excited that Saturday had finally come, and have been in a good mood all day. Sebastian was trying his best not to seem down; he didn’t want to ruin his friends’ joy. However, he also tried avoiding them as much as he could to not have one of them make another attempt at convincing him to go. Truthfully, it was taking everything in him to not join them. He thought about going, donning on his usual confidence, and taking the opposing glee club’s comments like he did every day last year. But he knows one look into Blaine’s eyes would break him. His confidence would shatter or he’d be begging the boy for a chance with his heart, promising he’d be gentle. It was too risky either way. So instead, he planned to sit in his room and continue his studying as he had been for days now.
Moments later, his door swung open.
“There’s no way I can convince you?” His roommate asks, hopeful.
Sebastian checks the clock. Six thirty. “No, sorry. Homework.” He says, lifting his notebook.
Nick rolls his eyes, “yeah. Cause that’s ever stopped you from partying. Well, have fun I guess, then.”
The other boy grimaces, “I’ll try. And you too. And, stay out of trouble.”
“I’m the least trouble-making one here, what are you talking about?” He defends himself.
Sebastian is able to respond with a half-smile, flashing it at Nick as he leaves the room. Alone again, he re-opens his textbook and begins reading.
By the next time Sebastian looks at the clock, it’s close to nine. How the–, he wonders to himself. The boy checks around the room, subconsciously playing with the collar of his shirt as he does so. For the first time that night, his eyes feel heavy. Can’t sleep, need to focus. He tells himself, reaching for a cup sitting by his nightstand. It is before he can remember the cup was yesterday’s coffee that he brings it to his lips and takes a sip. The cold, stale taste travels through his body and he gags.
“That’s not fresh,” he speaks out loud, finally remembering.
The boy then ponders for a minute what he should do. He could go to sleep early and hopefully wake up rested or he could make a late night coffee run. Sure Lima Bean would be closed, but there should be plenty of other places he could find a cup. Maybe it will be fun to drive around and find a shop he’s never visited.
Sebastian has convinced himself it would be a fun late night adventure before he could think of any bad reasons to do it. He laces up his shoes and grabs a winter coat, unlike he did the last time he went out, and heads over to his car. He then turns on the radio and begins to drive down to the main road where he’ll begin his coffee expedition.
Four minutes into his traveling, shops start to appear. There are several Tim Hortons, but all look closed. There is Wawa, but Sebastian sees that as a last resort. One because he is a little picky about his coffee; two because he doesn’t want to leave his sports car in a place frequented by truckers and stoners. Finally, a shop called Spicy Cup Bakery catches his eye. The lights are still on inside so he pulls up in the parking lot. He takes a minute to read the selections, then orders, and leaves with a hot cup five minutes later. The boy is thrilled to have more fuel to carry him throughout the rest of the night. Before he drives away, however, he sits in the parking lot to enjoy the cinnamon flavored caffeine in his hands. The radio is still on, taking him to a headspace of comfort in his current situation. Though it doesn’t last long when a familiar voice sweeps him off his feet,
Betty, I'm here on your doorstep And I planned it out for weeks now But it's finally sinkin' in Betty, right now is the last time I can dream about what happens when You see my face again
He takes a deep breath, frozen in fear that all his worries will come back to haunt him and free him from his state of bliss. The song continues,
The only thing I wanna do Is make it up to you So I showed up at your party
Yeah, I showed up at your party
Yeah, I showed up at your party Will you have me? Will you love me? Will you kiss me on the porch In front of all your stupid friends? If you kiss me, will it be just like I dreamed it? Will it patch your broken wings? I'm only 17, I don't know anything But I know I miss you
Standing in your cardigan Kissin' in my car again Stopped at a streetlight You know I miss you
Gradually, the song fades into silence. A moment later, the radio begins playing a new song, but Sebastian can’t hear it at all. He is still focused on the lyrics that still dance around his head. Without thinking, Sebastian throws his car into drive and starts on the main road. He’s on autopilot, not in control of his own thoughts and actions. He goes down roads he’s had memorized for months. His mind replays the memories in his head – him driving past the address locked in his mind, trying to get the confidence to approach the door. He never did, but would wonder when he would ever get the courage to knock. Weeks went by and turned into months that he never would, and would eventually stop driving by, but the address never left him.
Now, at nine at night, he was making the drive he remembers all too well. Around the bend and up the slight hill, take a left, then a right. The house with the bright red door. It stands out to its neighbors, much like the boy who occupies it that is hard to forget. Sebastian’s head is still empty, with no thoughts coming to interrupt his mission. His coffee had even been set down into the cup holder as he tightened his grip on the steering wheel.
Pulling into the street, he parks and quickly turns off the car’s headlights. The other cars littering the driveway and street proves he is at the right house. A gust of air hits him immediately as he comes out of the car. He has a second to think: is this a moment of bravery or a moment of stupidity? The boy isn’t sure, but he’s made it this far and doesn’t want to turn back now. Coffee in hand, because he’s still freezing, Sebastian makes his way onto the porch and finally knocks on the door. His breath hitches in his throat as he listens to the sound of footsteps approach. The knob turns, his anticipation increases.
None other than Blaine himself opens the door, “Sebastian?!” He exclaims.
Sebastian looks around nervously. Blaine had never really seen him nervous, so he checks behind his shoulder if anyone is looking. As no one is, he grabs a coat off the rack and joins him outside, shutting the door behind him.
“Hey, I thought you weren’t coming? What changed your mind? Oh, and we still have plenty of snacks inside. It’s not a super loud party where everyone’s drinking, but it’s still been a lot of fun.”
Sebastian doesn’t know how to respond to that, but doesn’t want to keep either of them in the cold any longer than he has to, so he suddenly delves into his thoughts, releasing them to the boy before him, “Blaine, have you heard that song?” He asks, looking into his eyes.
The other boy squints.
“It keeps playing on the radio and I wanted coffee tonight while I was studying so I drove and drove until I found the only shop still open. I wanted to enjoy my cup, it’s a cinnamon latte,” he adds, lifting it, “but the song I heard two days prior came on again. It makes me think of you, and me, and how I fucked up and I’m sorry. I’m only seventeen, and I don’t know anything,” a pause, “but I know I miss you.” He says, ending his rant with lyrics from the song in question.
Blaine stares in a stunned silence. Sebastian’s heart is racing. The boy’s quietness starts to freak him out. Thoughts finally return to his head. Oh my god, you made it worse. You drove here, should’ve just gone home, but instead you poured your silly little heart out to this boy, and now look. Sebastian wants to run away but can’t. Either he’s so frozen in fear he can’t move or his feet have become stuck to the icy ground. He looks down at them, wondering why they won’t let him escape. He doesn’t see Blaine move forward, but then he feels his hand resting on his cheek.
The boy looks up to see the other less than an inch away from him. The hand on his cheek brushes along his face, as if wiping away an invisible tear. Sebastian can only gasp at the sudden closeness, and that’s when Blaine closes the gap between the two. His lips capture the other’s in a sweet, sensual manner. When Sebastian finally realizes what’s happening, he kisses the boy back strongly, yet remains gentle. He fumbles to set down his coffee, smiling into the kiss as he does so, and then holds the other boy into him by the back of his neck. Blaine’s hands travel up his face to bury into his soft hair. He bites the boy’s lip, causing Sebastian to pull himself even closer. Blaine then draws back in need of air. The two make eye contact, foreheads resting against each other’s. Both smiling and a little out of breath.
The panting subsides, reminding them they are outside, exposed to the elements. Blaine takes a step back and makes a grab for Sebastian’s coffee.
“Ooh, this is really good. Where’d it come from?”
The taller boy laughs, “somewhere called Spicy Cup Bakery, on Dublin Granville Road.”
“I’ve heard of that, it’s near here. Never been, but definitely a place we should go.”
Sebastian goes to take another step towards Blaine, but catches movement out of the corner of his eye. Peeking out of the sidelights, he sees members of the Warblers and New Directions alike, staring out at them. Some snickering, others completely shocked. Blaine follows his gaze and spots them too, then waves his hand for them to go away.
Under normal circumstances, Sebastian would be embarrassed and reactive. But finally kissing Blaine was not an every day thing and he was too happy for anything to get in the way of that. Instead, he reaches for the boy again, grabbing him by the elbow and bringing him close. Blaine raises an eyebrow, surprised the boy hadn’t acted out or yelled.
Sebastian, now having a grip on the boy he loves so dearly, begins to sing to him. He covers the last stanza that stuck in his head before arriving at Blaine’s in the first place.
“Yeah, I showed up at your party Will you have me? Will you love me? Will you kiss me on the porch In front of all your stupid friends? If you kiss me, will it be just like I dreamed it? Will it patch your broken wings? I'm only 17, I don't know anything But I know I miss you”
Another smile is shared between the boys, then another kiss. The second just as treasured as the first. As they break apart, Blaine blushes,
“I do know that song. And, I’ll be honest. The first time I heard it, I thought of you. Now, let’s go inside, okay. It’s chilly out here.”
Blaine then turns his head in the direction of the door. Sebastian nods, his hair falling in front of his face, making Blaine giggle. He takes his coffee in one hand and the boy’s hand in the other. For the first time in a while, both are genuinely happy.

We did see what would Peggy's childhood look like but what would Jack Thompson and Daniel Sousa's childhood look like according to you?? Do they have both their parents or just one of em?? Do they have any siblings?? And is their childhood normal or traumatic???
I have to preface this by saying that I know absolutely nothing about the socioeconomic history in interwar America, or even that much about the political structure, so a lot of the following is just general impressions.
For Daniel, I agree with fanon that he comes from a more working class background. It’s probably not a stretch to imagine that he has a somewhat similar background to Bucky—oldest in the family, or at least the oldest son. Have sisters that are decidedly less rambunctious than Peggy, i.e. girls that do not regularly throw hands with people as a pastime. He is not snarky enough to suggest being a little brother to me; at the same time, the way he is around women suggests he grew up with plenty around him, in the familial kind of way.
(Actually now that I think about it, I’m just describing the Sousas as per Quo Vadis.)
I can’t really picture if he has both his parents, but it’s probably safe to assume that he is somewhat close to them. I don’t think he is necessarily particularly close to any parental figures, or if anyone particularly spoils him, but the relationship is...fine. Normal. Functional.
He is definitely booksmart—we can see how much he knows and how quickly he takes to complex scientific concepts in the show. He seems like someone who would be good at history and sciences. I don’t know how athletic he would’ve been in school, but I like the AOS suggestion that he was a boy scout—that he is not just into physical activities for the sake of it; rather, it’s outdoor activities combined with learning new skills, with preparedness, with a sense of adventure.
If I have to compare Daniel’s background to any other fictional characters, I’ll say... BBC John Watson but without the abusive father undertones and generally less troubled.
As for Jack, I base a lot of his characterisation on Sebastian Smythe from Glee and Logan Wright from Dalton, so I’m of the opinion that their childhoods share some similarities too. He seems to be from a somewhat well-off, at least comfortable family. I imagine his father, if not someone close to his father, has some political-adjacent powers. If they are in the establishment, I think it goes as far as, say, state attorney (or whatever state-based role that still gives them a little bit of spotlight on the federal stage). If they are only political-adjacent, I can see the Thompson family being involved in lobbying, or the more behind-the-scenes part of politics, say, some background and semi-important roles in the RNC? You don’t get to just meet people like Vernon Masters willy nilly without some connections to the establishment. But either way, the main takeaway is that the Thompsons are either in power and want to hold on to it, or close enough to it that they constantly have an appetite for more.
Jack is very likely the youngest, or one of the youngest, of several. I don’t imagine he has sisters; if he has, they probably led very separate lives—say, separate boarding schools and only see each other briefly during Christmas and in the summer. Even then, they have vastly different hobbies and social circles. He is enough of a little shit to suggest he is definitely one of those little brothers who will be all up in your face and is like ‘no, I’m not touching you, bleugh, I’m not touching.’
I can see Jack’s childhood being one of those where...we don’t generally think of it when we think of “child abuse”, but is definitely not a healthy childhood. Very stifling childhoods, for example. Strict but negligent households where no one really cares what your day was like, but you’ll be damned if you show up to dinner with your tie askew. His gam gam is the only one who really cares about him, or gives him the kind of care and attention that he needs. (I can imagine his dad telling gam gam that she is spoiling Jack.)
I imagine he does well in school, but not necessarily top of the class; just above average. He seems like one of those kids who don’t have to try too hard to get good enough grades, and/or the areas he excel in are not the ones that matter the most to his parents. For example, I can see him maybe getting good grades in art, PE, and English, but just ok in history and science. (There’s a Jackdaniels fic out there where Jack is an aspiring poet while his father wants him to go to law school, which is exactly how I imagine his academic situation to be.)
#daniel sousa#jack thompson#character study#ac meta#my meta#i swear i'm not trying to set them up as opposites it just came out that way#but honestly when the show is setting them up as foils at every turn#answers#anonymous#agent carter

Blaine’s hands land a bit too roughly against the grey granite for his taste, rather put off by the masked stanger’s manhandling.
He supposes being kidnapped by Willaim Schuester, then having the Dread Pirate Roberts kidnap him from his kidnapper wasn’t quite the delightful way he’d expected to end his evening ride, either.
“Rest, your Highness,” the man in black commands, the strands of tattered fabric that secure his mask tied behind his head billowing in the wind. Blaine refuses to shiver at the cool air of the highland whipping across his face, not wanting to show this man any signs of weakness. “You’re going to need it.”
“You’re the one who’s going to need rest,” Blaine spits, turning to face the man and take a proper seat on the stone. “My betrothed will come for me. Prince Smythe is an excellent tracker. He could track a falcon on a cloudy day, and he and his infantry will have me back in the castle and you in shackles by dusk.”
He should not make such bold claims at a time like this, and certainly not to someone as deadly as the Dread Pirate Roberts. Well, Blaine is only mostly sure he’s speaking to the infamous Pirate known for his murderous voyages on his ship, “Revenge”, but he’s certain enough.
“Ah, yes,” the man says bitterly back, fingers drumming ansty along the handle of his sheathed sword. “Prince Smythe. You have much faith in your most beloved, don’t you?”
Having his daily outing interrupted by that faux-philosopher Schuester from earlier and his two henchmen was unpleasant enough, but of all the things he’s heard come out of someone’s mouth this was the foulest. The law of the land gives Smythe the right to choose his spouse, and he chose Blaine. Despite this, Blaine knows he could never love Sebastian back. Now when he’s really known and lost his true love.
“I never said he was my most beloved,” Blaine snarls.
No. That title belongs to a name too precious to be uttered in front of the likes of a cheating, stealing, slaying pirate.
It’s been five long and lonely years since his dearest Kurt left him to venture out to sea, but Blaine can still feel Kurt’s hand in his sometimes, can still feel the residual warmth, as if it were yesterday. When he closes his eyes, it’s Kurt’s beautiful blue ones that are waiting for him when he falls asleep. Every round that his heart beats, it beats for the long dead Kurt Hummel.
Kurt had been Blaine’s family’s farm boy, and Blaine, in his infantile arrogance, loved nothing more than to boss him around. Whether it was “Farmboy, shine my saddle. I want to see my face shining in it by morning,” or “Farmboy, take these jugs down by the river to wash,” Kurt always responded with the same simple sentence that sent Blaine’s heart aflutter.
“As you wish.”
Blaine didn’t understand it at first—how could he, when he’d never been in love—the quickening of his pulse when he was near Kurt, how his knees seemed to careen and fail when hazel met piercing blue.
He didn’t understand why, when he’d asked Kurt to clean the stables, Kurt had looked at him with electricity in his eyes like a thunderstorm, and Blaine felt compelled to add a meek, “Please?” to the end of his request. He didn’t understand why when Kurt so softly answered him with those three little words— “As you wish” —Blaine would light like a lantern from the inside out.
He didn’t understand why he asked Kurt to fetch him a pitcher hanging right by his own head, just so he could be graced with having him in such close proximity, chest to chest.
“As you wish,” Kurt had said, and Blaine didn’t understand the magnetic force drawing them closer and closer.
And then Kurt’s lips were on his, and oh, how Blaine finally understood. He understood why wars were waged over Helen of Troy, and why lutists serenaded the public with foolish tunes of love that were actually the least foolish things in their nature.
He understood that every time Kurt said, “As you wish,” what he truly was saying was “I love you.”
He understood so clearly, and everything that wasn’t Kurt was reduced to complete and utter nonsense.
For a short year, they lived on borrowed time. Kurt’s family wasn’t from money, so he left the farm—and with it, Blaine—to seek wealth enough to ask for Blaine’s hand in marriage. It wasn’t long until the news came back to him that Kurt had encountered the Dread Pirate Roberts on the high seas.
There are three things Blaine knows to be true. Kurt Hummel was his one true love, death takes everyone and does not discriminate, and the Dread Pirate Roberts never takes prisoners.
Kurt never returned to him after that.
“No, I suppose he’s not your one true love,” the Dread Pirate responds, unimpressed. “I wonder whether a royal-to-be like yourself has ever truly loved.”
“I’ve loved and been loved deeper than you will ever know!” Blaine counters. “He was stolen from me, his blood on your sword. I know who you are. You’re the Dread Pirate Roberts, admit it.”
The Dread Pirate gives a little flourish, his night black outfit a stark contrast to the verdant grass of the highlands. “With pride.”
“You killed my love.”
“Quite possible. I’ve killed many of noble blood aboard my ship.”
“You know nothing,” Blaine says. “He was poor. Poor and perfect and with eyes like the sea after a storm. I received notice that he’d crossed your path on the high seas, and as we all know, you never take prisoners.”
Roberts shrugs, displaying such upsetting nonchalance at Kurt’s demise. “Can’t afford to make any exceptions. Once word leaks out that a pirate has gone soft, people begin to disobey you, and then it's nothing but work, work, work, all the time.”
Being held hostage by Schuester while the Dread Pirate fought off Michael Chang, one of the best swordsman ever to walk the earth, was nerve wracking. Hearing how he then proceeded to physically conquer who is probably the tallest man Blaine has ever seen, and then listening as he sat blindfolded to this man outwit William into drinking from a poisoned cup was a hellish enough adventure on its own, but it was not as dreadful as hearing his anguish ridiculed by this stranger.
“You mock my pain!”
“Life is pain, Highness.” The pirate gives Blaine a look that he would consider hurt, if he did not hate him so. “Anyone who says different is selling something… I think I remember this farmboy of yours. This would be about what, five years ago?”
Five years, three months, and sixteen days, Blaine refuses to say. His silence doesn’t deter Roberts from continuing.
“He died well, if it pleases you to hear that much.”
“With all due respect—which is little to none—nothing you can say will please me. Likewise, nothing you can say will harm me.”
“He made no attempts at either bribery or blubbering. He simply said Please. I need to live. It was the please that caught my attention. I need to live for him.” The pirate’s eyes grow misty and distant and so painfully reminiscent of his love’s that Blaine is forced to look away for a moment. “He spoke of a boy so lovely, and of enduring faithfulness. Sad to see he died for nothing. Tell me, Highness, when you heard news of his death, did you immediately become engaged, or did you wait a week out of respect for the dead?”
“Had I a choice in this matter I would join him among the realm of the dead!” Blaine yells back, surprised to see a bit of shock in the thief’s eyes. “You mocked my pain once, do not do it again. I died that day!”
The unmistakable sound of hooves pounding into the ground of the hillside opposite them causes Blaine to sigh in relief. He never thought he would be so elated to see his fiance. Still... elated may be too strong of a word.
The Dread Pirate turns to scout the incoming commotion, and Blaine acts before he has time to second guess himself.
“And you can die, too, for all I care,” he grits out, and shoves hard on the Dread Pirate’s back, sending the murderer tumbling down the hillside.
Blaine’s expecting to hear shouts of terror coming from the pirate, but what he hears next makes his stomach pool with dread.
“Aaaaaas yoooouuuuu wiiiiiiish!” echoes through the hillside, coming from the Dread Pirate Roberts and Blaine’s jaw drops.
“Kurt,” he gasps. “Oh God, what have I done?”
“Over there!” he hears Sebastian’s familiar and grating voice call out from just beyond the hillside. One glance behind his shoulder and Blaine knows they will come for him, and when they do, he will never see Kurt again.
So he jumps forward and follows Kurt rolling down along the slope of the hill.
Small rocks and flowers swirl past him in a blur, dirt kicked up every time his boots collide with the ground, and after falling for what feels like ages, his body finally comes to a halt, right next to Kurt’s warm one.
Blaine shifts to see Kurt better, body bruised from the fall, but soul absolutely jubilant.
Kurt scrambles over to him, black mask having been knocked off in the tumble. “Are you alright? Can you stand?”
Blaine laughs and reaches out to grab Kurt’s— Kurt’s —hand on top of his chest. as if to keep them physically tethered this time. “Stand? You’re alive. If you want, I could fly.” He buries his head deep into Kurt’s shoulder, inhaling the scent of him mixed with the grass and the dirt and the absolute joy of him being alive.
Kurt holds him back just as tight. “I told you I’d always come for you.”
“I thought you were dead.”
“My sweet Blaine,” Kurt murmurs, hand warm against Blaine’s cheek. “Death cannot stop true love. All it can do is delay it for a while.”
Blaine barely has time to smile before Kurt’s lips are on his again, back in their rightful place.

Kurtbastian - “Always and Forever” Chapter 2
After the death of their daughter Grace, Kurt and Sebastian drift apart. Kurt wraps himself up in his grief so tightly he starts to push Sebastian away, and Sebastian, feeling himself shoved aside when he needs Kurt most, cheats. They make the decision to start over, to leave New York City and their pain behind, and start over again in a house Upstate. Sebastian buys Kurt a "fixer upper" and gives him free reign. While redecorating the room that will be his studio, Kurt comes across something interesting underneath the wallpaper. It starts to become an obsession for Kurt - an obsession that begins to replace Kurt's love for his husband, which Sebastian is holding on to by a thread. Can Kurt and Sebastian break through the pain and the hurt and find a way to fall in love again?

Chapter 2 (5061 words)
The first evening in their new house becomes a long, exhaustive dance of unpacking and cleaning in preparation for the movers to arrive in the morning. What, in the past, would have been an upbeat two-step of flirting in the hallways while lugging in suitcases, punctuated by the occasional stop, dip, and smooch, is now a formal, boxy waltz, with Sebastian giving Kurt a wide-berth whenever he hears his husband coming, and Kurt pausing in doorways, eyes darting elsewhere when Sebastian passes by.
The rush to clear the dirt away and make things suitable for the furniture they chose to bring with them affords Kurt ample opportunities to send Sebastian on a host of errands, ensuring him stretches of time that he can spend alone to reflect and think.
Consider the past and plan for the future.
Even after the furniture arrives, they should have tons of space left. They had decided not to bring everything they own with them. They aren’t selling their penthouse. Keeping it furnished for the odd trip back seems like the practical thing to do. So, they only packed those things that they absolutely could not live without.
They didn’t bring any of the furniture from Grace's room. That Kurt donated to the Salvation Army with the exception of one item – a Winnie the Pooh lamp that he had found in mint condition, ironically, at the Salvation Army, on the day he and Sebastian found out their surrogate was pregnant. It's ceramic, hand-painted, with Christopher Robin and Winnie the Pooh sitting back to back as the base, each holding a handful of balloons. One red balloon, larger than the rest, contains the bulb, the colored plastic lending a rosy tint to its glow. Along the bottom edge are written the words: “If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart, I’ll stay there forever.”
Kurt’s mother had read him Winnie the Pooh books his entire childhood. He could recite most of A. A. Milne’s writings by the time he turned eight.
The year his mother passed away.
He'd read those same books to his daughter. She’d had them mostly memorized, too.
Seven hours of scrubbing, sanitizing, and (for Sebastian) racing around town wipe the two of them out, to the point where falling asleep is simply a matter of inflating an air mattress and putting heads down on pillows. They had picked up a Queen size one at a JCPenney along the way. It’s nowhere near as luxurious as the custom-made King size bed currently stuck in the back of an Allied Moving Truck, waiting to take a journey on the 495. This mattress is a tighter fit than they’re used to. It doesn’t help that the thing sinks in the middle whenever one of them rolls over. With the both of them measuring six-foot-plus tall, they have to lie in the fetal position to fit comfortably, which would require them to spoon. But Kurt finds a way to keep himself out of his husband’s arms.
The material the mattress is made out of seems perpetually ice-cold, not warming up a touch with their combined body heat, which Kurt didn’t anticipate. They have the gas and electricity switched on, but there’s something wrong with the central heating. They don’t have the requisite amount of blankets to keep from freezing, which adds to the misery. Despite being pissed at Sebastian, Kurt doesn’t have the heart to send him out at one a.m. to the 24-hour Walmart, so he closes his eyes and resigns himself to suffering until dawn.
For the next five hours, Kurt’s mind stays blank. No noise, no dreams, and no flashbacks, thank God. It’s not restful, but it’s the best he could have hoped for. The last half a year has not been conducive to dreaming. The nightmares keep coming, one after the other, the next one worse than the last, shaking him to his core until he jars awake with a pain in his chest like someone had tried, in steel boots, to stomp him into the dirt. But waking up doesn’t solve the problem. He doesn’t know what he hates worse – waking up weeping in his husband’s arms or waking up weeping alone.
Kurt’s feelings for Sebastian are complicated when he thinks they shouldn’t be. Kurt should either love him and forgive him or hate him and move on. But he loves him and hates him. His hands itch to hold him, but a second later, he wants to shove him away. He wants to go, but he can’t imagine leaving.
As much as it sucks, Kurt can’t imagine living without him.
He would prefer to go back to being shamelessly and hopelessly in love with him. Hating him has become a crutch. But it’s enough to get him through. Regardless of that fact, which should tie up the loose ends, mend the hurts and cool the hate, it doesn’t, because Kurt can’t find a way to forgive him.
A well-meaning Facebook friend had told Kurt over Messenger that the problem was Kurt’s pride had been hurt by Sebastian cheating. Push the pride aside and get over it. Ultimately, the marriage is more important. Then he said something about Kurt putting on his “big boy” pants, mentioned God, and quoted the Bible.
A minute later, Kurt blocked him.
That’s another blessing of moving - leaving behind the get over it already crowd. He hates them more than the forever sorry folks. The people who tell him to move on, to get over it, to put it behind him, don’t really care about him. They want him to stop complaining, as if they’re obligated to follow him on social media, and that puts the burden on him, in turn, to make them feel comfortable.
Maybe some of them do care, but not enough to put themselves in his shoes and understand that it’s just not that easy. Being on the outside of the swamp and looking in at a man who’s drowning, yelling at him to grab a branch and pull himself free, is different than being the man stuck hip-deep in mud that feels like cement and losing a fight that’s beyond his control.
Sometimes, as a matter of self-preservation, you simply give up.
Kurt doesn’t know who Sebastian slept with. He has his suspicions, but he doesn’t know for sure, and Sebastian won’t confirm. He says it’s because he wants to put it behind him, forget it ever happened, and that infuriates Kurt. If sleeping with another man was something Sebastian would need to put behind him, why even do it? Or (and Kurt hates himself for thinking like this), if Sebastian didn’t want Kurt to dwell on it, why not take steps to ensure that Kurt wouldn’t find out? Sebastian, of all people, should have known that this would eat Kurt up inside. It’s the kind of thing he’d never let go of. Yes, Kurt would be devastated if he discovered the cheating and the cover-up years after the fact, but he’d be in a better place to mourn his marriage apart from mourning his daughter.
What Sebastian did was selfish on so many levels.
Kurt knows that sex isn’t love, but he can't help wondering – was there a moment in the middle of all of it, caught up in the kissing and the fucking, where it felt like love?
Kurt met Sebastian in high school. Kurt wasn’t just a virgin back then. Oh, no. He had created his own category of virgin for which he could have had a cape and costume custom made – Captain Super Prude. Sex was a taboo topic for him, so much so that his high school’s chastity club hated him.
Apparently, he set the bar too high, made them look loose in comparison.
As much as he had fantasized about finding a special someone who would sweep him off his feet, gently usher him into manhood by making soulful but passionate love to him, he preferred not to think about it too often or too in-depth. The "talk” between him and his father was a mortifying experience.
There were pamphlets involved.
He still has some of them.
When it came to finding a boyfriend, Sebastian wasn’t what Kurt had planned on at all. Where Kurt was attracted to debonair, old-school, gentlemanly types a few years older than himself, Sebastian was crass, rude, explicit, and a year younger. On top of that, he was (to coin a phrase stolen from one of Kurt’s best friends, Quinn) the biggest French whore of them all. Sebastian didn’t care for romance and he didn’t attach emotions to sex, but he definitely had a way of making men fall in love with him. Kurt Hummel and Sebastian Smythe were the two people in the world least likely to fall in love with one another. But according to Sebastian, he fell in love with Kurt long before Kurt fell in love with him.
Sebastian claimed that Kurt was the first man he had ever fallen in love with, and at first sight, no less.
He whispered those words in Kurt’s ear the first time they made love.
He said those exact words during his toast at their wedding.
He wrote them in every birthday, Christmas, and anniversary card he ever gave to Kurt.
He said them over Grace’s crib the night they brought her home.
“Look at this little thing, Kurt,” Sebastian had sighed, reaching out to stroke Grace’s cheek. “Our daughter. Is it ridiculous that I’ve only known her for two days and I’m already in love with her?
“Technically, nine months and two days. But, no. It’s not ridiculous.”
“I never thought I could fall so fast in love with another human being before I met you.”
“Really?”
“A-ha.” Sebastian smiled when Grace yawned, her whole mouth moving in a complete circle before she settled down again. “I fell in love with you the second I laid eyes on you. And then, well, it was all over for me.”
Those words, the memory of that happiness, breaks Kurt’s heart. Could it be possible that, after close to twenty years of marriage, after reciting those words so many times, they didn’t mean anything anymore? Had Sebastian found someone else he could fall in love with?
Kurt has asked, but Sebastian won’t answer that question. He says it’s insulting.
Whatever the answer, he probably thinks he’s doing his husband a kindness. What he’s really doing is prolonging the torture, not giving Kurt the information he needs to make a decision that he can stand behind. Every time Kurt looks at his husband, he sees touches on his skin that don’t belong to him, kisses on his lips that he didn’t put there.
Kurt doesn’t know how to make himself see past them.
Instead, he looks away.
The second Kurt feels sunlight on his face, he’s out of bed. He grabs his messenger bag and pads down the hall to his studio before Sebastian can stir.
The room looks different with blurry morning sunlight bleeding through the windows. Kurt didn’t put black-out curtains up, and the sheer curtains that came with the house let fingers of light poke through, bouncing off the wallpaper and brightening the floor.
Yikes.
Kurt examines the floor now that he sees it clearly. It’s a mess - the wood warped as if someone had paced it incessantly. It had been varnished at one time. Spots of resin dot the boards like oily puddles. The wood itself (some variety of walnut, Kurt suspects) has blackened to a morbid pitch with age. It sucks up the light and gives little back.
“Oh, yeah,” Kurt murmurs, pressing around the brittle edge of one spot with his toe, watching it crackle into shards. “This has to be completely redone.”
He gets stuck on the idea that this room could have been his daughter’s if she were still alive. He and Sebastian had talked about raising Grace in a suburban environment, and as much as he regrets not giving her a house with a yard and room to grow, Kurt leaned heavily on the side of staying in the city. Some of his motives were selfish. He loved Manhattan. It had been his lifelong dream to end up there. He wanted his daughter to grow up with all of the things he didn’t – culture, diversity, theaters and libraries and museums a train ride away. He didn’t want her raised around the closed, narrow minds of small-town folk. He wanted her to be an independent thinker – liberated, rational, intelligent. But he also wanted her to be compassionate and kind. He wanted her to know the world, its wonders and its failings, the way it truly was, not the way it looked on a movie screen, and long to change it for the better. They participated in fundraisers, gathered donations for the homeless, and volunteered in soup kitchens.
Grace was a pure light, a driving force that, at her age, Kurt didn’t get the chance to be.
So in honor of her, he wants his workroom to be bright and colorful - a mixture of his vintage aesthetic and her fun-loving personality. He’ll paint the walls her favorite colors, put homages to her in the details, choose the furnishings she would have preferred.
Since this will be the room he spends most of his time in, he wants it to be everything about his daughter that he adored.
He opens his bag and pulls out his phone, checking the time. 6:08. The movers are supposed to arrive between eight a.m. and ten. But movers, electricians, plumbers, and cable guys never arrive on time. He fishes out his sketchbook, sits on the floor, and gets to work jotting down a layout. First things first, he decides where his drafting table will go, where he’ll store his bolts, where he’ll put his sewing machine, a spot for a work chair, marking places here and there for personal touches like his mother’s vanity, his first-ever dress form, a few of his awards...
And photographs. Lots and lots of photographs.
He didn’t keep photographs in his studio at Vogue. He had an obsession with keeping his private life private, which he doesn’t apologize for. Since he met clients there, he liked to keep that space impersonal. Nothing to get in the way, spark a conversation that might derail the job at hand.
Unlike Sebastian, who hung candids galore. He stuffed the most Godawful photographs from their high school and college years into collage frames and nailed them to every wall of his office, squeezing things like his degrees and diplomas into far corners so that those pictures could be prominently displayed. He said that people knew the Smythes by name and reputation. If anyone wanted to see his credentials, they could Google them. But when people walked into his office, he wanted them to know that first and foremost, he was a family man.
Sebastian knew from childhood that he would become a lawyer. He never dreamed he would be a father.
Or a husband.
Those were the two accomplishments he seemed the proudest of.
Kurt regrets not having more pictures of Grace hanging on his studio walls, her smiling face to look at every hour of every day, watching his meetings, overseeing his layouts. She was his good-luck charm, his missing puzzle piece. She deserved a place of honor.
Now, he’ll give her one.
His stomach growls as he works. A smell from somewhere tickles his nose, and he groans. Just a few more seconds of sketching on the hard ground, and he’ll grab a bite to eat… maybe. With his ass numb, he doesn’t see a reason to get up, and bedsides, he’s on a roll. Car doors closing and constant banging echo in, and he winces, his head throbbing from lack of sleep. Dammit! If it would just stop till he finishes! It’s hard enough to concentrate as is! He hopes this is a one-time-only thing. He’d hate to wake up to that cacophony every morning. If he ever decides to go outside and meet the neighbors, he’ll have to find a polite way of asking them not to do whatever that is before he has his morning coffee.
Of course, soundproofing is also an option.
“Kurt? Kurt, are you… ?”
Kurt shifts his legs underneath him. He lifts a hand to massage his shoulders. That mattress must have killed his back. His arms ache something fierce. Sitting on this floor doesn’t help, the uneven boards digging into his legs, but it’s not an impetus for him to stop.
Just one more minute.
One more minute of sketching out this room, and he’ll join the world. One more minute to get his thoughts straight. One more minute to brush aside the things that like to torture him. Forget that his mother died when he was eight, his stepbrother when he was eighteen. Forget that his father passed away three years ago and his daughter six months ago.
Not too long after, his husband cheated.
Five.
That’s how many things he had loved in this world more than himself.
Those are the things that he’d lost.
They were the things he needed to forget in order to make it through till the evening.
He’ll replace the insulation and the drywall, smother everything in a noise-proofing compound, then paint the walls in swirls of pink and gold. He’ll do the ceiling in shades of blue, indigo, and violet, like the sky at night, and cover it in crystals to represent stars the way Grace had wanted to do with her bedroom. Kurt had promised her he would the second everything was over, when they could risk her being around the debris and the fumes.
He has never broken a promise to Grace. He isn’t about to start.
He scribbles those notes in sloppy script in the margin of his paper, wipes tears with the back of his shaking hand. He tries to focus on specifics to bring himself back from the brink of a breakdown. He needs a good cry, but he doesn’t want the comforting that will go with it if Sebastian hears him. He can’t right now. Sebastian comforting Kurt turns into Kurt comforting him back, and Kurt only has the strength to handle one outburst.
“Kurt? Did you want to… ?”
Kurt waves a hand to shoo away the buzzing beside his ear, relieved when it doesn’t take much more than that.
In order to paint the walls, he’ll have to take the wallpaper down.
That brings to mind the corner of torn paper over by the window and the word written underneath.
Darling.
That corner offends him. Kurt keeps entertaining the thought that that word has nothing to do with Sebastian, that there is another layer of wallpaper underneath festooned with line art of flowers, along with quotes from various love poems sprinkled throughout, circa 1800s. But then that would make that one tear and that one word an incredible coincidence since darling is the pet name Sebastian has called Kurt since day one. When he started doing it, every time he said it, Kurt had an urge to sock him on the jaw.
He was a pain in the ass, even back then.
Did Sebastian actually think Kurt would fall for writing darling on the wall? After the things he said? After what he did?
Kurt’s hand trembles so badly, he smudges the ink on his page. He stops writing, takes a deep breath, and counts to ten. He closes his eyes and concentrates on the sun warming his face. It’s gone now when it was there a second ago, which is disconcerting, but he has to ignore that and calm down.
He has to relax.
He promised he’d give this marriage a chance, that he’d try to make this work. Sebastian, so far, has held up his part of the bargain. He’s given Kurt space. He’s listened to him vent uncontested. He’s let Kurt keep tabs on him – where he goes, when he’ll be back, with photo texts in between to prove that he is where he said he would be. Kurt has to give him the benefit of the doubt. If Sebastian extends an olive branch, Kurt should take it.
But did he want to?
“I didn’t hear you when you got up this morning.” Sebastian’s voice starts Kurt’s hand up again. He wants to look busy. He doesn’t want to be caught in a position where he has to give his husband his full attention.
He hasn’t forgotten everything yet.
“Well, you were dead to the world,” Kurt replies, distracted.
“I’m just saying, see? You won’t disturb me. You don’t need to put a bed in here.”
Kurt bobs his head back and forth, adding a place in his layout for a foldout out of spite. “We’ll see. It’s only been the one day.”
“That’s true.” The way Sebastian says it, it sounds like a challenge. A tired challenge. Like Sebastian knows he’s already lost. “So, you like the room?”
“Yeah. I think I do.”
“And what about the rest of the house?”
He doesn’t know why Sebastian sounds like he’s asking. It’s a done deal. They both agreed on a new house. Sebastian found one he thought Kurt would like and bought it. What? Are they going to back out now and magically move somewhere else?
Will moving around from house to house solve what’s wrong between them?
“It’s fine, I guess. I don’t know. I think it’s hard for me to visualize without taking the grand tour. I’ll be able to tell better when I get started decorating.”
“Are you gonna hire that guru guy to help you with the yin and yang stuff?” Sebastian jokes cautiously. “That Kung Fu guy… what’s his name… ?” Sebastian snaps his fingers as if he’s seriously trying to remember.
“He’s a Feng shui practitioner, and his name is Carl.”
“His name's Carl?” Sebastian laughs. “No no no, his name is not Carl. Carl is the name of a dentist. He’s not a guy you call to Wang Chung your house.”
“Feng shui,” Kurt corrects again. “I hired him to help me create balance in our home.” He chuckles despite the fact he doesn’t want to find Sebastian funny. He doesn’t want Sebastian to affect him. But he’s right. The man’s name irked Kurt, too, when Isabelle referred him. “Ridiculous name or not, he seemed like a knowledgeable guy.”
“Do you think that Shaolin stuff could work here?”
Kurt pauses to give the matter some thought, and that kills the moment. The levity becomes saturated by the pain hanging in the room, and Kurt coils further into his sketch.
“That remains to be seen. But I think I’m going to try doing it for myself this time. Of course, the overall effect is going to be completely thrown to heck when you hire whoever never to decorate your office.” Kurt throws a derisive scowl over his shoulder. It misses its mark when Kurt won’t look Sebastian in the eyes.
Sebastian swallows Kurt’s scowl without thinking of a comeback. They’ve had that argument before when Kurt redecorated their penthouse. Kurt felt the need to redecorate whenever something big happened in their lives, but Sebastian’s office was off-limits, so it stayed the same. Kurt tried to find one or two things to put into his design scheme that would bring a theme from Sebastian’s office out so that the penthouse would blend, but whatever the thing he chose was – a print, a vase, an ottoman, or a coffee table – it stuck out like a sore thumb, until Kurt tried less and less.
“Can’t fight City Hall,” he’d say, returning to the business of finishing the rest of the space. Things changed around them, and yet, in Sebastian’s carefully curated world, life stood still. The last time Kurt redecorated was before Grace was born. Nothing in the penthouse matched Sebastian’s office after that.
“I want you to do it.”
Kurt stops scribbling. “Me?”
“Yeah.”
Kurt almost looks back to see if Sebastian is serious. He stares at the paper in front of him, the surface more ink than white. “Are you… are you sure? You always said that we need our separate spaces.”
“That’s only because you’re a little heavy-handed with the pastels. I trust you. Just don’t go making it all shabby chic.”
Kurt is speechless. This is the opportunity he has been waiting for their entire marriage – to decorate Sebastian’s office. Once upon a time, he saw it as the ultimate gesture of trust.
Back when he was naïve and fairly stupid.
“Don’t worry. I won’t.” Kurt debates standing up and giving Sebastian a hug or a handshake. This seems like a time that would warrant it. But when he rolls an inch to his knees, his entire body screams with pain. God, he feels old. How can he be this stiff after just half an hour?
Kurt returns to his planning. Even though he doesn’t feel prepared to leave his sanctuary, he fixes on that solid mask he’s been wearing for weeks around Sebastian. Just one more minute. One more minute, and he’ll go downstairs. He thinks he says it out loud. He expects Sebastian to go back to their room and get ready for the day, but he stays in place like a statue, watching Kurt draw, huddled over his sketchbook with his back turned to him and the door.
Kurt waits to hear the sound of footsteps retreat the way they came, but they don’t. His pencil stops above a square drawn in the corner meant to represent his stereo. He can’t continue his drawing with his husband watching, so he bites the bullet.
“Was there something else you needed?” he asks.
“They’ve… uh… got the bed in,” Sebastian says. “And the TV.”
Kurt scrunches his nose and lifts his head. What does he mean? The bed and the TV are on the moving truck. Kurt looks at his phone, resting on the floor by his knee.
“What are you talking about?” Kurt scoffs. “The movers haven’t even arrived yet. It’s only 7:15.”
“That’s right.” Sebastian speaks slowly, the way he does when he’s explaining something to Kurt that he thinks Kurt might explode over. He leans forward like he wants to come in but doesn’t without an invitation. “It is 7:15. In the evening.”
Kurt's head snaps up, eyes rolling because Sebastian is crazy.
There’s no way.
He's ready to object, but with his gaze away from his page, he notices something different about the light in the room. Instead of a soft, diffused blue, it has become a thicker yellow. Shadows stretch across the floor that weren’t there before. The room is warmer than he remembers, and the skin of his left shin, folded over his right, feels hot and irritated, like he might have gotten a sunburn.
“Evening?” Kurt shakes his head. “How can it… ? But… why didn’t you tell me? Why didn’t you come get me?”
“I tried. I told you when the movers arrived. I asked you what you wanted for lunch. I brought you the portable heater and put a lamp in here when it started to get dark.”
Kurt looks around. In the emptiness of the room, they’re easy to see - a plug-in heater behind him, and, in the corner of the room to the left of the door, standing straight and tall like a structural support beam, a brass lamp without a shade, filling the room with artificial light.
The first two pieces of furniture in his new studio, and Sebastian put them there.
Kurt doesn’t want them. He’d rather be cold and alone in the dark.
“We don’t have WiFi or cable yet, but I set up the Blu-ray player,” Sebastian continues. “I thought I could go get some take-out, and we could have a picnic dinner on the bed. Maybe watch a movie?”
Kurt does a 180 on his sore ass and looks at his husband (which is to say he looks at a spot over Sebastian’s head) with a mildly confused expression. He’s not really thinking about the bed or the movie or dinner at all. Even though he was hungry earlier, apparently hours earlier, he’s not hungry now. He couldn’t be less hungry. His desire to eat simply evaporated. It's been waning for weeks. Sometimes he forgets to eat until Sebastian sticks a sandwich in his face. Sebastian has become devoted to keeping Kurt's stomach full. He knows better than to comment on his weight loss, but he keeps a stock of temptable foods on hand.
He’s keeping Kurt on life support.
Sebastian stuck a spear into the heart of what they had together. Now he’s keeping Kurt alive to help him fix it.
Kurt hates that he didn’t see it that way until just now.
“Kurt? Please?”
Here’s the olive branch, Kurt thinks. He has to decide whether he’s going to take it or toss it aside.
He had promised Sebastian he’d try, and Kurt has never broken a promise to Sebastian.
No matter how much he hurts, he’s not going to start tonight.
His father always said that a man is only as good as his word.
Kurt closes his sketchbook. “Alright. I’m coming.” He tries to unfold his legs, but his knees lock up on him, and he rushes to massage the beginnings of a cramp. Sebastian looks like he’s about to spring in and help, but Kurt puts up a hand. “I’ll be a minute.”
Nodding, Sebastian takes a step back. Even with that rejection, he looks happier, more hopeful. He takes his phone out of his pocket and leaves the room. The grateful smile on his lips should fill Kurt with warmth. It used to.
But it doesn’t.
After a meal of Szechuan from a questionable establishment (not questionably clean, just questionably Chinese) and The Devil Wears Prada (a movie Sebastian swore up and down he’d never watch again), Sebastian falls asleep with his head on Kurt’s chest. And Kurt lets him, even if he himself barely gets a minute of peace.

Frankly, I thought we were over this kind of abhorrent behavior, but I’ve been woken up with a new mess to clean up so here we are. @cartersvillerpg has been condemned for transphobic behavior and a poor response to said transphobic behavior. I would avoid them at all costs, I see members are jumping ship by the dozen, so good on them. This just makes me highly uncomfortable, and the way the admin team responded to this makes me even more uncomfortable. But of course, “that’s stupid” so I should just get over it nd say nothing. Wrong. The admin team can try the pity party routine, but Sebastian Smythe is rock solid and untouchble. If Big Hero 6 didn’t catch me crying, this kind of thing isn’t going to remove my voice or the voices of the trans people this admin team hurt. I’ll be really honest here and say that the biggest reason I’m writing all of this up is because they not only excluded someone for being transgender, but now they’re out here gaslighting, pity partying, and telling everyone to get over it because it’s stupid. This is pitch perfect abusive behavior.
Here’s the rundown:
Someone applied to Cartersville as Kurt Hummel, a trans man. The bio fully explained how Kurt grew up in a small town, not Cartersville, and he came out as trans while his mother was still alive. But after she died, the bullying from town was too much for them so they moved. That was why Kurt was hesitant to come out as gay, because he already knew what it was like. It was also why he was alone in season one and needed to be pushed into socializing, because he was scared. It was explained how his canon facts line up with being trans, including Kurt telling the girls he has his own period. All of this was in the app.
The admins got back to them and said they didn’t see Kurt as trans, accused the player of stealing representation for the poor, underprivileged cis, white men, threw a bunch of excuses out for why they won’t accept a trans character especially a canon character, then restated that he didn’t look trans.
When told that what they had said was transphobic and that it was transphobic to not accept a character because they’re trans, the admins gaslit the player by saying they never said that, they just won’t accept him because he doesn’t look trans to them. But they never said that. But also, they said it again.
The player politely tried to explain, got spoken over by two cis women on transgender topics, and then politely said to rescind his app because he was tired of being told that it was “too au” for a character to be transgender. The exact words were, “This is an au rp we know but we just don’t think it’s right to change the canon so much as to make him trans because he doesn’t fit what a trans person is to us as a character.” WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN? It’s too au to be trans? Doesn’t fit as a character if he’s trans? The excuses continued and continued to change until the player gave up because of the rude, transphobic admin team.
The admin team then began to try to smear him, when people got rightfully upset about it, even going so far as to say that “all they wanted was to have an open conversation about it” when the player already tried that in their app and in DMs-- though they should have never had to defend their right to play a trans character. The character should have just been accepted just as easily as any cis character. It’s that simple. It’s transphobic to make trans people jump through hoops just to exist, if those hoops do not exist for cis people. Do you ask every applicant to defend their choice in gender or just the trans ones? That’s transphobic. Treating trans people differently than cis people is transphobic. AND YOU DON’T GET TO FOLLOW ALL OF THIS UP BY TELLING SOMEONE YOU’VE OFFENDED THAT THEY SHOULDN’T BE GETTING OFFENDED! TO SAY THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE JUST TALKED TO YOU WHEN THEY WERE, IN FACT, TRYING TO TALK TO YOU THE WHOLE TIME IS ALMOST EVIL, IT’S SO GASLIGHTY. And a final reminder, there was nothing to explain or argue to you in the first place! This character should have just been accepted as transgender instead of being ridiculed and told “he didn’t have the right look to be trans” and “you don’t want to take away the cis white rep.” The amount of excuses just tells the truth of the matter- they were just that, excuses.
You don’t bend over backwards so hard to exclude trans characters if you’re not transphobic. This action is transphobic, which isn’t always indicative of a fully transphobic person, but THESE ACTIONS are definitely indicative of a fully transphobic admin team. YIKES.
Just a tip, when more than one person is mad, you probably want to look inward. This might “seem stupid to you” as an admin team, but you’ve squashed equal representation and hurt a whole community. So what is really stupid here is the fact that you think you can post about how you’re in the hospital and this is so stupid so wah baby wah, nobody should hold them accountable. You’re gaslighting the people involved and trying to shove the situation under the rug. Oh it’s fine, just forget this because it didn’t even happen that way. We didn’t not accept him because he’s trans we just don’t see him as trans! It’s perfectly okay to make it harder to join an rp if you want to app trans! NO. THAT IS TRANSPHOBIC.
Even your post defending why you aren’t transphobic on your main is full of transphobic rhetoric! All you had to do was say, “my bad, we didn’t realize that was transphobic. Thank you for educating us and welcome to the rp! We’d love to have a trans character here!”
What I really don’t get is the admin team is now trying to cover their ass by saying he can’t be trans because he isn’t “canonically trans,” but it’s okay to bend the LGBT umbrella to make the admin’s Mercedes bisexual even though she only ever dated men on the show? That’s not canon! LE GASP! But you sure can post the app count update for the character you excluded from your rp to make sure people see that there was interest in your group!
AND LET’S NOT FORGET, THERE ARE OTHER ANONS IN THE TAGS TALKING ABOUT BEING DENIED ACCESS TO RPS IN THE GLEE RPC FOR WANTING TO PLAY TRANS CHARACTERS. SO THIS ISN’T THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. Why are we excluding trans muses? Why? And was that you too? Have you been denying trans characters this whole time? You can’t seriously NOT see how trans exclusionary it is to exclude trans muses from your rp. You can’t seriously NOT see how trans exclusionary it is to say that anyone that “wants the honor of bringing in a trans character” has to do it a certain way but cis muses can run wild and free. You can’t seriously NOT see how trans exclusionary it is to assume all canon characters are cis and therefore can’t even be played in an au as transgender. YOU LEGIT RUN AN RP THAT’S 100% AU AND BASED AROUND A TOWN THAT NOBODY ON GLEE EVER WENT TO, NONE OF GLEE IS ACTUALLY CANON ANYMORE BECAUSE THE CAST DIDN’T GROW UP TOGETHER BUT IT’S TOO AU FOR A CHARACTER TO BE TRANS? AND YOU’RE NOT TRANSPHOBIC?????????????????
What in the gluten-free, low carb, sugar-free alternate universe is this privileged bullshittery under the cut?:
Here they are incorrectly assuming someone else’s gender, cis-cesexist and heteronormatively assuming and ruling the law of the land by their assumptions. Here they are also saying that Kurt isn’t the right fit for a trans character, and telling the person that if they want to play a trans character that they have to app as an oc? What? But remember, they never said he didn’t look trans! “Not the right fit as a trans person” is “he doesn’t look trans.”
And here the player is very politely trying to explain himself! Which is what the admin team is now claiming was “all they ever wanted.” Hmmm, I smell fish and I don’t see an ocean. He was even kind enough to explain to them why what they were doing and saying is hurtful. But do they show compassion?
No! Of course not! They lie! “We didn’t say he can’t be trans because he doesn’t look trans” but they just said in DM one that they weren’t accepting him as trans because “they didn’t think he fit the look.” And now that they’ve been called out for it, now they’re saying they know Kurt’s canon gender. I would really like to know when they sat down with the fictional character Kurt Hummel and asked him what genitals he was born with because that’s the only way to really know gender. Anyone can be trans. Anyone can be nonbinary. It is absolutely abhorrently cis-sexist and heteronormative to say this.
Don’t forget how terrible it is to take away the cis white representation! It’s much more diverse and welcoming to MAKE SURE you protect those cis white roles! There just really aren’t enough of them out there! Protect the fragile ego of the cis whites!
The applicant makes a very valid point. The admin team wants to stand up for the rights of the poor, downtrodden cis white to make sure they get their representation because it’s swo twerribwe to “erase a cis white for all the great representation they give to the cis whites” but you’re legitimately erasing a trans person’s narrative here??????????????? That’s how you know they’re just transphobic and don’t want trans characters in their rp, because they put so much effort into fighting it that they even went the erasure route WHILE erasing the opinions and representation of a trans person.
Then you think it’s over, right? Wrong. They still harass the player.
As you can see, they denied an app because the player and character are trans. We didn’t say he couldn’t be trans because he doesn’t look trans, he just doesn’t look trans so he can’t be trans! DUH! Seriously?

Written for @nightbirdssidekick as part of the Seblaine Gift Exchange!! ✨🏳️🌈💕
A/N:
In this story, Sebastian is a Senior at Dalton, and he’s recently confessed his feelings for Blaine, but he is yet to come out to his family. At first, both Sebastian and Blaine are devastated, but at his final Show Choir Nationals Competition, Sebastian decides to change things last minute when he finds out that not only is Blaine in the audience, but his family is too. This is pretty much a complete AU Oneshot that kind of came to life on its own! Lisa, you pretty much gave me free rein to write almost anything, and I really hope you enjoy reading this! ❤️
Summary: To make Sebastian's final Nationals Show Choir Competition with the Warblers even more memorable, not only has he been given a solo, but he also spots a familiar face in the audience. But with his family in the audience, does he have it in him to show them what he's made of, or will the one thing stopping him from falling in love find a way to stop him from reaching his happiness all over again? @seblainegiftexchange
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Wes asked as he followed behind his friend, a concerned look etched on his face as they entered McKinley's auditorium for Nationals of the Show Choir Competition and made their way to their seats. "What? No- Yes! Yes, I'm sure." Blaine assured, along with a feeble attempt of a reassuring smile, turning his attention away from the older male as they took their seats. Scanning through the programme to see how many more choirs were on before The Warblers.
"Sebastian and I's most recent conversation may not have ended on the best of terms, but I promised him that I would be here for his final competition no matter what," Blaine exclaimed with a soft sigh, anxiously biting down on his bottom lip as he turned to look at Wes. "You think I'm making a mistake, don't you?" He questioned, the man he considered his best friend letting out a soft chuckle as he shook his head in response before speaking, "no, I don't think you're making a mistake, I just– it's still a raw situation. You're at the point in your life where you're out and proud, and you want to settle down eventually with the man of your dreams, whereas Sebastian– Sebastian hasn't even come out to his parents yet... I think you're both at such different points in your life, and coming here fresh from an argument may not be the best idea right now. But you're my friend, and if this is where you want to be, you know I'll be right by your side to support you through it."
As much as the truth hurt to hear, it was the one thing Blaine had always been able to rely on Wes for. No matter what, Wes was the type of person who never hid from the truth.
As much as the truth hurt to hear, it was the one thing Blaine could always rely on when it came to getting advice from Wes. No matter what, Wes was the type of person who never hid from the truth. "Thank you, Wes." The younger man said softly, feeling himself suddenly become anxious as he spotted Nick and Jeff walking up one of the seating isles; Blaine finding himself forcing on his best attempt of a smile as the two Seniors gave him a small wave of greeting as they went past.
"Oh my God, Blaine's here!" In a whisper to his boyfriend, Jeff exclaimed, Nick, nodding in response before stopping in his tracks. "Oh my God, we've got to tell Sebastian!" Without another word, the two quickly rushed backstage to find their friend.
––––––
Sebastian had been replaying the argument around in his head since it happened, at a crossroads between the man he loved more than his own life and his family. While he knew the pain of losing Blaine would be the worst pain he would experience in his entire lifetime, he also knew the type of repercussions that could arise if his family were to take the news of his sexuality negatively.
"Concentrez-vous, Sébastien..." The brunette mumbled to himself, pacing the school hallway as he tried to get out of his mind, suddenly being snapped out of his thoughts as he heard two frantic voices calling out his name and running towards him as if they needed rescuing from a rabid dog.
"Sebastian! Seb! Oh- Oh my sides..." Jeff groaned breathlessly once he came to a halt, grabbing onto his friend's shoulder as he rested his other hand on his boyfriend's back. "Seb- I- We-" He mumbled, Sebastian, beginning to lose his patience as both his curiosity and concern started to grow- either Jeff was stalling, or something had happened that both teens were afraid to tell him. "What?!" Sebastian finally snapped, both Nick and Jeff suddenly catching their breaths as they looked at each other before back towards their friend. "Blaine's here..." Nick confessed, the sadness instantly becoming evident in Sebastian's eyes.
He remembered.
"I- your parents, too. Blaine and Wes are sat right behind them." Jeff confessed, suddenly becoming unnerved as Sebastian turned away from them and went quiet.
"I- your parents, too. Blaine and Wes are sat right behind them." Jeff confessed, suddenly becoming unnerved as Sebastian turned away from them and went quiet.
"Go get the others... I've made my decision."
––––––
“Please put your hands together for the Dalton Academy Warblers!”
Taking a deep breath, Sebastian forced on his confident exterior as he made his way onto the stage with his fellow Warblers, the group performing an Acapella rendition of Ariana Grande’s One Last Time without a hitch. But as the audience came down from their high after the first song, it was safe to say that there were more than few puzzled looks in the crowd as the group took a step back into the darkness while the spotlight shone down on Sebastian.
Unlike their typical performances, this was unlike anything the Warblers had ever done before; a single piano beginning to play with subtle sounds of accompanying violins, Sebastian started to sing.
“My feet are aching And your back is pretty tired And we've drunk a couple bottles, babe”
Seeing the man he was so deeply in love with step forward for the solo Sebastian had told him so much about during their Skype Calls, Blaine found himself looking down at the ground as he struggled to look up at Sebastian as he sang. The aching of his heart almost becoming unbearable as he struggled to keep his composure. But something was telling him to look up, so he did. Tears instantly welling up in his eyes as the two locked eyes with one another.
“And here it is, our final night alive And as the earth runs to the ground Oh boy it's you that I lie with As the atom bomb locks in Oh it's you I watch TV with As the world, as the world caves in”
"Oh my God..." Blaine whispered to himself, realising Sebastian had changed the original line from girl to boy. It was at that point that Blaine started to truly sob, not once breaking his eyes from Sebastian's as he savoured a moment that he had always dreamt of. For so long, all Blaine wanted was to be enough for someone, and now, despite every obstacle that once stood in their way, Sebastian Smythe was that someone.
“And here it is, our final night alive And as the earth runs to the ground Oh boy it's you that I lie with As the atom bomb locks in Oh it's you I watch TV with As the world, as the world caves Oh it's you that I lie with As the atom bomb locks in Yes it's you I welcome death with As the world, as the world caves in.”
By the end of his performance, Sebastian's tears were cascading down his face, a genuine smile growing as he looked out to his soulmate. He could see his parents talking and looking at him, but right before he was about to walk off stage, his mother and father stood up to applaud him along with the rest of the crowd; they knew what he had meant with the song, and they accepted him unconditionally.
As Nationals came to an end, The Warblers were crowned with a first-place victory, but there was no denying that Blaine and Sebastian were the true winners that night. As soon as the competition had officially come to an end, Sebastian ran down the steps at the side of the stage and ran up to Blaine; the two instantly embracing one another before finally pressing their lips together for a passionate kiss.
Pulling back after a moment, they both blushed before saying in unison.
"I love you."

Seblaine || Saturday Experimenting
Who: Sebastian Smythe & Blaine Anderson @switchseb
When: Saturday 5.15.21
Where: Blaine’s Room
What: Blaine tries blindfolding and teasing Sebastian.
Warnings: NSFW
Blaine Anderson
Blaine led Sebastian into his bedroom, pushing the door closed behind them and locking it. He was a little anxious about today, but for the most part he was excited. He'd never really had this much control during sex before, and it led to him using the extra time he was granted to really think about what he wanted to do with it. Lots of things had crossed his mind, but the one he'd landed on that particularly interested him (that he wrote off as just being a basic vanilla interest) was a blindfold. The thought intrigued him. Being able to touch Sebastian, and have the other man's focus strictly on where his fingers might land next, or the way his hands felt on his body. The thought even turned Blaine on, probably more than it should. "So, just... one more time. Everything except limits, right Monsieur? Because... and if you're not comfortable with this, we don't have to do it... but, I was thinking about a blindfold?"
Sebastian Smythe
There wasn't anyone Sebastian trusted like this. Of course he trusted Frannie with his whole life, but that wasn't the same as this. And of course, he was a slut for commanding Dominants, but there was something that felt different about this. He could sense the anxiety coming off of Blaine and he was determined to do all he could to help with that. So when they were on the bed and Blaine was sitting across from him, he took his hand and pressed his lips to the bracelet like he so often did. He did say that nothing but his limits were on the table and he wondered how Blaine would take advantage of that. What was proposed wasn't expected and Sebastian cocked his head to the side. "That's what you want, sweetheart? Just a blindfold?" He asked, the surprise evident in his voice. "I think I'm okay with that." Sebastian leaned in to kiss Blaine. "Like I said, I trust you."
Blaine Anderson
Blaine watched Sebastian lift his arm and press a kiss to his bracelet, his shoulders instantly relaxing as a soft smile formed on his face. Sebastian made him feel so confident and happy, even when he wasn't sure he could be and he loved it. " Yes, Monsieur. It is," He said, reaching behind the other man with his free hand, pulling a black silk blindfold from under his pillow. "I put quite a bit of thought into it. I did a lot of researching on it too. I just... wanted to be safe," He quickly added, pressing another kiss to Sebastian's lips. And he had. He'd spent a long period of time reading about potential risks, and other things he wanted to know before even seriously considering suggesting it. "I was thinking... you undress to your boxers, I put this on you, and then... well, I want to touch you. All over. Kiss you too." He brought the hand up with the blindfold wrapped around it, brushing the fabric over the Switch's cheek, then his jaw line. "What's your safeword again?"
Sebastian Smythe
Sebastian was going to keep his work and let Blaine do what he wanted regardless of what it was, but the fact that Blaine took the extra step research made him see how serious this was to the submissive. “I think I can handle a blindfold,” he assured him, pressing his hand to that back of Blaine’s neck to keep him there for just a little longer to keep kissing him. “I think all of that sounds good, sweetheart.” Sebastian leaned into the touch, his eyes scanning Blaine’s face as it always did. It wasn’t an alarming question, but his body did react by his heat-beat accelerating and his breathing growing ragged. A simple way to turn casual fun into a scene. “Red,” he responded easily then kissed Blaine’s knuckles before getting up from the bed and undressing down to his boxers. As instructed.
Blaine Anderson
Blaine smiled softly as he watched Sebastian stand up and start undressing, leaning back on his palms as he took in every new inch of exposed skin. He told Sebastian all the time how handsome he was, but he didn't think the Switch understood how true that actually was. "On your stomach," Blaine instructed when the other man was back on the bed. He could feel his own heartbeat rising as he moved to straddle Sebastian's hips, but he quickly refocused himself as he leaned down to press his chest to the other man's back, pressing kisses along his shoulder. "Ready for it to go on, Monsieur?"May 24, 2021
Sebastian Smythe
Sebastian's stomach flipped at the small order. It only lasted for a moment but there was something different in Blaine's tone of voice as it was delivered. He was a little taken aback but decided not to address it. Instead, he did what he was told, smirking slightly as he got onto his stomach and waited for Blaine's next move. The body weight that was draped across his back was comforting and he closed his eyes on instinct as he turned his head to the side and just relaxed. "Ready, sweetheart," he offered. "I trust you," he reiterated.
Blaine Anderson
Blaine couldn't help but smile at the affirmation while carefully placing the blindfold over Sebastian's eyes. Something about holding this much trust felt special and also a little strange, but he didn't let himself dwell on that fact. He tied the blindfold with his fingers between the other man's hair and the knot to prevent it from catching, and also to make sure it wasn't too tight. Once it was on, Blaine began trailing his fingers down both sides of Sebastian's neck, then along his shoulders and down his arms.(edited)June 8, 2021
Sebastian Smythe
It was odd being in this situation with Blaine. It wasn't as if it was their first time with Blaine topping Sebastian in some way, but it felt like it was significant. The Switch didn't dwell on it for too long. Ultimately, Sebastian knew Blaine wasn't going to do anything that would make him uncomfortable, so he just focused on the exciting part of it. With his eyes covered, he could immediately feel the difference in Blaine's touches. It was as if he could visualize Blaine's fingers going down his body. He shivered at the feeling, but leaned into it. He shifted, turning his head to the other side, to give Blaine access to the other side of his neck as well.
HC:
Blaine's going to be lightly touching and kissing all over Sebastian's body, with the intent of convincing Sebastian to let him top. Starting with his shoulders and jaw line, then slowly moving down his spine. When he reaches the waistband of his boxers, he's going to sit up and press his erection right against Sebastian's ass while gliding his fingers right under the waistband. Just far enough in to tease him with them coming off. Sebastian would not be able to keep still, pressing back against Blaine to get as much contact as he could, but he would not object at all.
Then once he sees Seb is enjoying it, he'd playfully slap Sebastian's ass, because it's been done to him before. But then he's going to take Sebastian's boxers off, keeping everything as slow and teasing as he can, before moving down again to trail kisses along his lower back, then upper thighs. After a little more of that, tells him he wants to prep him with his tongue. Sebastian would kind of be surprised, looking back even though he couldn't see anything and kind of smirk and moan. His skin would have goosebumps and he would just be trying to anticipate Blaine's next move. It doesn't take long for him to agree, especially when he starts using his tongue on him to prep. "You've convinced me, sweetheart. Fuck me."
Blaine getting all excited immediately, taking the blindfold off and moving up to kiss him while getting undressed. Then fucks him into the mattress. After they both get off he'd flip into cuddle mode, probably putting a movie on he knows Sebastian likes. Sebastian enjoys the way they've flipped the script and lets Blaine have complete control. He doesn't think about it, just gives in and thoroughly enjoys himself, especially how unforgiving Blaine is with him. Falls asleep for a nice nap to the movie.
Blaine ends up staying awake for a while, not really thinking about what happened but just playing with Sebastian's hair absentmindedly while watching the movie, eventually ends up falling asleep with him.

What are your favourite Sebastian ships?
My favourite, and most consumed Sebastian ship will always be Kurtbastian, no doubt about that, but if I had to put all of his (common?) ships into a list from favourite to least favourite, this is what it’d look like!
1: Kurtbastian
Kurt Hummel and Sebastian Smythe.
I don’t quite think I can fathom just how much I dearly love these two, both separately and together. The potential they bring to one another for growth, redemption, explanation and development is practically palpable. The chemistry, courtesy of Chris and Grant, in the show is so entertaining to watch, and the direction of their relationship can really take a turn at any point. Do they start off with hate sex? Is it Kurt learning that Sebastian is an actual person with a family, hobbies and aspirations? Is it Sebastian personally reaching out to apologise to Kurt and something blossoming from that? Do they run into one another again in New York? It could be any of these options, alongside many more, and yet they all bring us a beautiful outcome in this pairing. They’re not so cookie cutter, they’re unique and compatible in so many different ways. Their wit and humour is so easy to intertwine that I sometimes forget they aren’t a canon couple. I just absolutely adore them.
2: I need to distinguish how much I love Kurtbas by stating that nothing even compares to them.
Like seriously none of the ships below even remotely compare. That’s how much I adore these two.
3: Warbler Ships.
Sebastian Smythe and Jeff, Nick, Thad, Wes, David and Trent.
These are the type of ships that I’ll read and I have no problems with, I just don’t actively ship them in my own glee universe. I read a beautiful fanfic a few years ago about Thad and Wes helping Sebastian overcome some self infliction habits, as well as a similar one with Nick where they’d write letters to one another. They were lovely and I thoroughly enjoyed them, I just don’t ship any of them religiously like I do with kurtbastian. KB are my endgame, I don’t even see these couples as midgame.
(That being said, I do think Jeff and Sebastian have most likely made out before. Not in a midgame type of way, more of a heated fling, I picture it to be a situation where Nick and jeff were on a break, and the boys kinda just got caught up in the moment while watching movies. It was something they just needed to try and get out of their system, and it’s followed by Jeff realising that Nick’s lips are the only ones he ever wants to kiss, and Seb understanding that maybe the idea of being romantically exclusive to somebody wouldn’t be a bad thing, and it would actually make him feel special. It doesn’t affect their friendship negatively, they’re still best buds, but Nick definitely gives Sebastian some side eyes when Niff are on the mend and he learns what happened.)
I think a good summary of how I feel about these ships is that when I’m reading their fics, I’m reading for Sebastian and Warbler characterisation separately, not Sebastian and Warbler romantically together, but they’re still cute fics!
4: Huntbastian
Hunter Clarington and Sebastian Smythe.
For me Huntbastian is kinda mid tier. I don’t actually like Hunter very much as a character, and I think Seb is far too good for him (I’m also very persistent when it comes to reminding people that the steroids scandal was all Hunter’s doing). However, there are definitely a few fics that I’ve read where this ship is quite cute. I suppose because we don’t know a lot about Hunter, nor do we know if the stuff we do know is even true, I think this ship is completely dependent on how the former is portrayed by each fic writer/artist. They have fanon potential, but I don’t appreciate Hunter enough to delve into that myself, despite the fact I have enjoyed little bits of media between these two every now and again.
That being said, I personally think these two actually have some very dark potential considering the power dynamic established in the show, and you know me, I love putting Sebastian in tough situations.
5/6: Starsmythe and Coopbastian
Elliott ‘Starchild’ Gilbert/Cooper Anderson and Sebastian Smythe.
First of all, idk if Elliott and Seb have a ship name, I just came up with Starsmythe on the spot, but if they don’t I think that should be the new one.
Much like with number three on my list, these are the kinds of ships that I don’t really see together in general, and I don’t see them happening in canon at all (well maybe Starsmythe could’ve if they’d actually met, but they didn’t), they’re just fun for experimenting with stories and ideas, or sometimes they’re a catalyst for other ships (Elliott with Kurtbas and Cooper with Huntbas from what I’ve read). I did read a really sweet KB fic where Sebastian got sick in New York, and Elliott helped Kurt look after him, so although they weren’t romantically involved, I thought it was just so sweet and had potential.
So again for these guys, I read more so for separate characterisation, and to get my Sebastian fix after I devour everything in his tag excluding seblaine, but they have possible fanon potential!
(And personally I’m a sucker for the whole ‘Cooper dates one of Sebastian’s family members’ trope that so many of us use. That never gets old.)
7: Sebklaine
Sebastian Smythe, Kurt Hummel and Blaine Anderson.
(Does it annoy anyone else that in both sebklaine and klaine Kurt is only the K? Like mmm it’s not a vibe.)
I don’t really know what to say about this ship. Do I hate it as much as Seblaine? No I don’t, but do I actively love it or consume it’s media on my own? Also no. The only time I’ll read Sebklaine fics is if the title and/or summary really grab my attention, or it’s primary focused on Kurtbas with only a smidge of Blaine, otherwise I’m not overly interested myself.
I personally don’t think this trio would work very well at all, I actually don’t think Blaine could be in a polyamorous relationship with anybody for that matter. As we see in the show, he’s incredible insecure and very jealous, imagine how he’d behave if he had to share his partner with somebody else? And I’m not putting my Bastian through that :(.
8: Sebofsky:
Sebastian Smythe and Dave Karofsky.
I think Sebofsky is such a neutral ship to me. I don’t dislike it, but I don’t actively ship it either. I’ve read a few fics of this pairing, nothing that particularly stuck out to me, but that’s not to say they were necessarily bad, just not my personal cup of tea. Something I actually would’ve liked to have seen from the show between these two was an apology from Seb to Dave after his attempt, but since we never got to see that I just like to assume it happened off screen. Now had we have seen a scene similar to that, maybe I would feel differently towards this ship, both positively or negatively, but we shall never know.
Not a bad ship, not an amazing ship, just a ship to me!
9: Seblaine:
Sebastian Smythe and Blaine Anderson.
I’ll just let Redditor Bea explain this one
This might be a hot take, and I’m probably going to get shit for it, but I think Sebastian deserves better than Blaine. I think everyone deserves better than Blaine, I do not like Blaine :).
Seblaine’s only redeeming quality, at least in my opinion, is that at least Blaine is a gay male and not a girl, or god forbid a lesbian girl.
10/11: Sebtana and Smytheberry.
Sebastian Smythe and Santana Lopez/Rachel Berry.
I will not touch these two ships with a ten foot pole. I’m all for personal expression, and at the end of the day you can headcanon characters as whatever sexuality you want to, there is nothing we can actually do to stop you, but I personally think there’s a huge difference between hc-ing a straight person as another sexuality, and hc-ing a canon gay character as straight. It’s reductive, you’re taking away their minority, you’re removing with a snap of your fingers the oppression people have been fighting again for years, these characters are iconic for what they represent, Santana especially: canon gays in modern media who aren’t totally defined by their sexuality. And I know some of y’all are looking at this with a side eye because it’s “not that deep”, but it is to me. If Sebastian and Santana had both been canon bisexual in the show, I actually think Sebtana is a ship I could get behind, but they aren’t, and therefore it’ll never be okay with me. They are both gay, a homosexual and a lesbian, so I will never see them romantically involved.
And as for Rachel, the compatibility between them isn’t very strong in my opinion, Rachel would be too much for him, I think it takes a certain type of guy to handle her, especially pre-S4. He’d lose his patience pretty quickly over her behaviour anyway, excluding the fact Sebastian likes men.

If you don’t do Huntbastian or Coopbastian I am suing
Have BOTH.
It seemed that Sebastian Smythe had it all.
He had money (although almost every student at Dalton did), he was the former captain of the Warblers and current co-captain (but if anyone asked, Hunter was the captain, Sebastian was more of an assistant; he stepped down from his position, but Hunter insisted he at least helped out), he was still the lead at any competitions, and he had a famous boyfriend. And Hunter was jealous.
When Sebastian heard Cooper was in town, he invited him to visit Dalton and watch the Warblers, and maybe offer some help. Cooper accepted immediately. Hunter didn't like the idea of it, but he agreed anyway. If Sebastian wanted it, he wouldn't say no. And everyone else seemed to like the idea. After all, Cooper had been a Warbler as well, and despite leaving before most of the current ones joined, they all knew him. And even if they didn't, they all knew Blaine, his younger brother, who was apparently much less cool.
Hunter watched as Sebastian led Cooper through the halls of Dalton Academy. He wanted to tell them that Sebastian giving a tour was pointless, Cooper already knew where everything was. "You know, I used to hate this school and everyone in it," Cooper said. "But if you had been here, I would've hated everyone but one person."
"I feel the same way," Sebastian said, kissing Cooper's cheek. Again, Hunter wanted to say something. Did Sebastian forget about him, was he just agreeing with whatever Cooper said, or did Sebastian actually hate him? Hunter didn't think he was likeable and he wouldn't be surprised if any other Warbler had said that, but he and Sebastian had always been best friends. But instead of saying something, he just rolled his eyes. God, love could turn people into such idiots... "Come on, Coop. Let's go to the practice room. Everyone's waiting." Sebastian grabbed Cooper's hand and ran down the hall with him. Hunter watched, not caring if he was late.
When Hunter did come in, Cooper was in the middle of his speech to the Warblers. Sebastian was watching him with a huge smile. Hunter sighed loudly and sat in the open seat closest to where Sebastian was. They weren't beside each other like he would have wanted, but it was the best he could do. Sebastian looked over when he saw Hunter come in. "You're late, Hunt."
"I couldn't care less," Hunter said.
Sebastian turned back to Cooper. "He's weird sometimes. I guess now is one of those times..."
"I'm weird sometimes?" Hunter asked. "Cooper turned you into a whole different person!"
"Have you ever considered that maybe, just maybe, you don't actually know Sebastian as well as you thought?" Cooper asked.
"Have you ever thought that you're not good for him?!"
"Do I have two guys fighting over me?" Sebastian asked. "That's kind of hot." Nick and Jeff both laughed at that. "I'm being completely serious."
"I'd fight for you any day," Cooper replied, winking.
"Gross," Hunter said.
"You're gross."
"I know I'm irresistible, but you don't have to fight," Sebastian said.
"No offense, Seb, but I have no interest in you," Hunter said.
"Sure you don't," Sebastian said sarcastically. Then he went to sit in Cooper's lap. "Anyway, you were saying?"
Cooper continued his speech as Hunter glared at him and Sebastian. He hated Cooper, he hated the fact that they were together. And he didn't want to be with Sebastian, he only wanted him happy. He wasn't with Cooper, no matter what he thought. Hunter could see that the relationship wasn't good. He knew how Cooper was, that everyone that actually knew him hated him. He was loved by the public, but it was all an act. Hunter found it ironic that Cooper was a horrible actor onscreen, but he was constantly acting and everyone believed it. Even now, hearing Cooper speak, Hunter wondered how anyone could like him. His advice was terrible and anyone should know that. Most of the Warblers seemed to be confused by what he was saying, but some of them, including Sebastian, were listening to and believing every word he said.
Hunter didn't want to be with Sebastian, but he could treat him better than Cooper did. Anyone could treat him better than Cooper did. Sebastian deserved the world, and he could probably get any guy he wanted. Why would he settle for Cooper? Either Cooper had Sebastian under his spell, or Sebastian was severely underestimating himself.
After Cooper's speech, he kissed Sebastian and picked him up, carrying him out of the room. And Hunter didn't see them again for the rest of the night. He hoped that Cooper wasn't hurting Sebastian in any way, although Hunter was sure Sebastian wouldn't allow that.
The next day, Hunter was happy to see Sebastian by himself. "Hey, Seb. Where's Cooper? Did he leave already?"
"No, not yet," Sebastian replied. Disappointing. "He'll be back soon. He went out to lunch with Blaine and their parents. He didn't want to, but apparently he had no choice."
Hunter nodded and sat beside Sebastian. "Can we talk? And don't try to argue. Just hear me out."
"Yeah, sure," Sebastian replied. "Is this something important? I've never seen you so serious."
"It is, actually. It's about you and Cooper," Hunter explained. "I don't think he's good for you. You're a completely different person around him. And I know love can change a person, but it shouldn't be to this extent. I care about you, Sebastian, and I don't want to see you hurt. And you know how Cooper is. He'll lure you in with his charm, then turn on you. You know how he is with Blaine, so why would you want to be with someone like that? You can have anyone you want. You don't have to settle."
"I'm not settling," Sebastian replied. "And how he is with Blaine, that doesn't count. They're brothers. He's a good person, really."
"I just want you happy. I care about you, okay?"
"I didn't realize you had a soft side," Sebastian said, smiling. "But really, I care about you too. And I get it, you're worried... But you know what? I think you'd feel this way no matter who I was with. When I was with... I don't remember his name, the guy from Scandals, you had a problem with that. When I told you how I felt about Blaine, you had a problem with that. So Cooper isn't the issue. What is?"
"It's Cooper," Hunter said. "First of all, the fact that you can't remember that guy's name shows what that problem was. And I don't have a problem with Blaine, I just didn't think it was a good idea because you had no chance with him."
"Hunter, please... You can talk to me. We're best friends, aren't we supposed to tell each other everything?"
Hunter sighed. "I don't know, Sebastian. I can't tell you because I don't know." He looked down. "Maybe the problem is seeing you with someone that isn't me. Which sounds incredibly stupid, especially since I wasn't aware I had feelings before right now..."
"Really? That's adorable, Hunt. Really. And I hate to break your heart, but seeing as that's what I'm known for... I don't plan on leaving Cooper any time soon. But if I do, you'll be the first person I go to. Okay?"
"Okay. I'm wait-listed. Got it."
Sebastian laughed. "At least you're next in line!"
"Lucky me," Hunter said sarcastically, laughing as well.
"I love you, Hunt."
"I love you too. As a friend, of course."
"If you say so." Sebastian smiled and pulled Hunter into a tight hug.

Bad History
Masterlist
Summary:Sebastian Smythe x reader. You're Hunter Clarington's little, he's really over protective of you. You went to visit him the one day and Sebastian (he's straight in this) starts to flirt with you.
WARNINGS: Hella Swearing
"Why are you here?" One of the teachers ask you as you tried to get to the Warblers' practice room.
"I'm here to see my brother Hunter Clarington." You say. "Why should I believe you?" She asks.
"Look lady, you don't have to but last time I checked there are other people coming in and out of here who also do not go to school here, and you're not being a bitch to them. So good day." You say and walk away leaving her totally shocked and at a loss of words.
You finally get to the office (I dont know what else to call it) and open the doors.
As soon as you walk in all eyes are on you, "Are you going to stare at me or are you going to tell me where Hunter is?" You ask.
"Y/n?" You hear your brothers voice. "Hunter!" You say and give him a hug as he submerges from the group of boys.
"Oh look another one of Hunter's play things." Someone says. You let go of Hunter, "I'm his sister you cunt." You say making all their jaws drop and Hunter chuckles.
"That's why I love you." Hunter says and you smile, "So what brings you to Dalton? Or more like Ohio?"
"I missed you, what else?" You say. "I'm not buying it." He says. "Whatever. I could leave. Actually I can't my flight home leaves next week, so you're stuck with me." You say and smile.
"Fuck." He says. "Whatever." You say and roll your eyes.
Someone then clears their throat to get your attention. "Right, uh I'll be right back. You boys can leave. Sebastian stay here and look after her make sure she doesn't get in trouble." Hunter says.
"Fuck off." You say and flip him off as he leaves along with the other boys. You then turn to the so called Sebastian.
'Goddamn he's hot.'
"You like what you see?" Sebastian asks smirking when he realized that you're staring. "Loving it actually." You say and smirk making Sebastian's smirk grow.
"Well I can say the same although, you're much more hotter than I am." He says. "I beg to differ." You say.
You plop down on the sofa and Sebastian sits next to you. "How come Hunter never told us about you." He asks, "Probably cause I embarrass him." You say.
"Why?" He asks, "I only tell my sad stories on a date." You say and smirk. "I'll pick you up tonight then at 7, wear something nice." Sebastian says and winks.
"Okay I'm back, thanks Sebastian. I'll see you tomorrow." Hunter says coming into the office.
"Okay, cheers dude. See you later Y/n." Sebastian says and winks at you before leaving the room.
You smile, "No way, you're not going on a date." Hunter says. "You're just being over protective!" You say and giggle.
"I'm your big brother, it's my job to be over protective." He says.
"Yeah you've done a great job so far." You say and sigh. "Hey, I'm sorry for what happened. I didn't know they would go that far." He says.
"Do you know what hell I've had these last few years?! No you don't, they love you. You can never do anything wrong! I do one thing wrong and they send me off! I've been in and out of schools these last few years." You say.
"God, Y/n, I'm so sorry." Hunter says and pulls you in for a hug. "It's fine. I'm used to it." You say and hug him back.
"Where will you be staying?" Hunter asks. "With Blaine, he told me I could live with him until I find my own place." You say, "hey I have to go, i have a date tonight." You say.
"I'm not liking that idea." He says. "I don't care. Let's go." You say.
---
"You look great Y/n, dont worry Sebastian's not going to be able to take his eyes off of you." Kurt says as he sees how you keep checking every inch of your body for a flaw that could be showing.
"He's here!" Blaine yells. "I'm coming." You say and grab your purse and then head to the door and see Sebastian in a nice tux.
"Hey there," you say and smile. "Hey there, you look beautiful as always." Sebastian says.
"Oh stop it," you say and smile. "Nope, leave your purse, I'm paying." Sebastian says.
"We shall see." You say and walk out the door, "Bye guys." You say and hear a "bye" from both Blaine and Kurt.
---
"Then I told her that there are other people who don't go Dalton who just waltz in and she isnt a bitch to them and then I walked away." You say and Sebastian laughs.
"That's gold." He says and his laughter dies down.
For a moment it's silent, "So are you going to tell me your sad story?" He asks and takes a sip from his drink.
"How do I know I can trust you? How do i know you're not only doing this to get dirt on me so that you can expose me to everyone?" You ask.
Sebastian grabs your hands, "I would never do that to you." He says. You look at him for a few seconds more just to make sure he isn't lying.
"When I was 13 so 3 years ago, I got into a fight with this guy who was being a smart ass. I used to have a short temper, still do actually, but anyway I got into a fight and it landed him into the hospital. That was an accident, we were on the first floor, it wasn't that high. The rails were loose and it broke making him fall." You take a shaky breath and Sebastian rubs his thumb on your knuckles reassuring you.
"He landed in the hospital, a few days after that he died. Since then I was called a murderer. My parents kicked me out. Refusing to give me money for school, for a house or even food. They didn't believe the judge who said it wasn't my fault but the school's for not making sure the rails were secure." You say.
"They sent me away, my aunt and uncle had to look after me. Got me into a good school, then the school called my parents and they told the school everything and I got expelled. Happened a lot after that, I lost count after the 7th school. McKinley is my last hope. " you say and heave out a heavy sigh.
"I understand if you want to leave, call me a murderer it's fine." You say and remove your hands from his and grab your purse and stand up.
"No y/n." Sebastian says and grabs your wrist and pulls you down next to him. "I dont think you're a murderer. It was an accident, it wasn't your fault. Look at me." Sebastian says and puts a finger under your chin and lifts it up making you look at him.
"Nothing you say can make me think different of you. You're a beautiful, nice and amazing girl." He says, you blush.
"Thanks." You say. "Anytime." He says and smiles.
You two sit there staring into each other's eyes for a few more seconds and then he plants his lips onto yours.
You wrap your arms around his neck to deepen the kiss. You lips move in sync and soon enough you had to breath.
'Fucking lungs, needing fucking oxygen.'

Blaine Anderson
Um, hi Sir. I made you jambon beurre and coffee this morning, to hopefully help with the hangover. Could we meet before first class? Maybe in the parking lot? Or... we could do somewhere hidden if you'd prefer that.
Sebastian Smythe
I'll be in the gray BMW parked in the back corner of the parking lot. Meet me there before class.
Blaine Anderson
Yeah, okay. Will do, Sir.

Blaine Anderson
Sir? Are you still awake?
Sebastian Smythe
Yes. Are you okay?
Blaine Anderson
Yes, Sir. I just can't sleep. Are you okay?
Sebastian Smythe
Why wouldn't I be?
Blaine Anderson
I just wanted to make sure, since we're both up late. Can you call me sweetheart pl Can you sing to me? Even if just a voice clip, Sir?
Sebastian Smythe
I'm as fine as I always am.
[ VOICE MESSAGE ]: ⏯️All I wanna do, is come running home to you... come running home to you...
Blaine Anderson
Told you. Chills. Your voice is beautiful, Sir.
I know what it's like, and I am here for you because of that. For anything you need. Could we make plans? Maybe off campus, to keep people from seeing. Like, lunch or something one day next week? Or, maybe this weekend if you have the time?
---
March 6, 2021
Sebastian Smythe
You don't have to do that.
Blaine Anderson
But... maybe I want to, Sir.
I'm sorry for being so impulsive and... returning what happened. It won't happen again. But I do care for you.
Sebastian Smythe
What are you talking about, sweetheart?
Blaine Anderson
I missed you calling me that so bad oh my god I'm not sure which part you mean, so I'll just clarify all of it. I'm sorry for kissing you back, but I like you. A lot. So I don't mind chilling out and just... give you someone safe to talk to when you need it, Sir. I'd still like to scene with you sometimes, and hang out if you want though.
Sebastian Smythe
You don't have to apologize for that.
And if I want more from you? Just tell me when you want to have lunch and I'll make myself available.
Blaine Anderson
I feel like I need to, because... you just stopped talking to me. I missed you, and I don't want it to happen again. Does Monday or Tuesday lunch sound okay?
Sebastian Smythe
None of that was on you. It was all on me.
Let's do Monday.
Blaine Anderson
Would you be upset if it happened again?
Monday, cool. I can do that. Can I hug you when we're not on campus?
Sebastian Smythe
Yes.
Blaine Anderson
Okay. Prepare for a big one. 🙂
Sebastian Smythe
Will do, sweetheart.
Blaine Anderson
I'm gonna go jump back in the ocean, but... thank you. For talking to me again. I hope you have a good day, Sir.
Sebastian Smythe
Have fun.
Blaine Anderson
Is your sweet tooth still in tact, Sir?
Sebastian Smythe
Are you baking again?
Blaine Anderson
Maybe. 😬 I blame Pinterest.
You can't just show a guy oreo brownie pizza at 1am and not expect him to make it.
Sebastian Smythe
What are you doing up so late, sweetheart?
Blaine Anderson
I couldn't sleep Training to beat Gordon Ramsay in a cookoff one day. 😁 What about you, Sir?
Wait, this is baking. Make that Buddy Valastro.
Sebastian Smythe
Is that right? I actually know who Gordon Ramsay is, I have never heard of this Buddy Valastro.
I just couldn't sleep. But I think that's okay, it's the weekend. Plus I'm halfway into this bottle of cognac.
Blaine Anderson
I thought you said you know Gordon Ramsay for a second and... well, that would make your fancy private jet seem boring in comparison. I want to meet him one day and find out what qualifies someone to be a "donut." Have you really never seen Cake Boss before, Sir? We need to fix that. He makes all kinds of crazy cakes. Like dragons, and giant castles. It's actually kind of crazy. He owns a bakery in New Jersey.
Are you okay, Sir? Do you need anything? Or, maybe to let anything out?
Sebastian Smythe
You're rambling, sweetheart. I'm fine.
Blaine Anderson
Oh. Sorry. I got a little too excited, I think. I still like it. When you call me sweetheart. Well, Sir, I guess I'm just worried. That's a lot of alcohol content. I wish you lived on campus so I could hug y
Sebastian Smythe
You don't need to apologize. I already told you how adorable I think it is. I have a high alcohol tolerance, it's really not as much as it sounds.
Though it is horrible for my filter.
Blaine Anderson
Oh. Sure. Right. Adorable. Got it. That's me. Adorable. 😎👉👉 What do you think qualifies someone to be a donut? Horrible for your filter, and for your liver. Can I ask you something?
Sebastian Smythe
I'm sorry, I have no idea what qualifies someone to be a donut.
Blaine Anderson
That's okay. I guess the more important question is... what was it like for you? The kiss. The piano one.
Sebastian Smythe
That's a dangerous topic.
[...]
Why? What was it like for you?
Blaine Anderson
No, I know I just I still think about it, a lot. It didn't feel like just a kiss. To me, at least. But I guess I'm a little biased. I just wanted to see if maybe... you felt it too. It was dumb. Sorry.
Sebastian Smythe
[...]
Why do you think I reacted the way I did? Walking out and ignoring you?
[...]
It was too much.
Blaine Anderson
I just thought it was because we went to the same school, or maybe because of Queen Max. I had no idea you felt it too. Too much by who's standards?
Sebastian Smythe
What does Max have to do with this?
Too much by my standards. I can't afford to feel like this.
[...]
Now I've said to much.
Blaine Anderson
Just that we scene together, and she's a friend of mine. I wouldn't ever say anything just to reiterate, but... I thought that was why you left. I guess I was wrong.
For me?
Like... for guys?
It's okay, Sir. I swore I wouldn't talk to anyone, and I stand by that. But I also don't want to make you uncomfortable.
Sebastian Smythe
No, I left because you made me feel something I never felt before it wasn't that.
I'm not uncomfortable. I'm just not accustomed to sharing these thoughts with anyone but Frannie.
Blaine Anderson
Well, at least we know we were on the same page with how the kiss felt. I won't... ask for exclusivity, but... I'd like to do it again sometime. If you want. I want to. But... you know, if you wanted to.
For steam reasons.
I understand. But... I am here for you, Sir. Both of you, even. If the need ever arose. Closeting is... awful, and I just wish you didn't have to go through it.
Sebastian Smythe
You don't want to know what I want to do to you, sweetheart.
I don't want to talk about that anymore.
Blaine Anderson
Oh Well... what if I do, Sir?
That's okay, we don't have to. Consider it dropped, Sir. 🙂
Sebastian Smythe
Before or after I put you on your knees?
Good boy.
Blaine Anderson
Sir. Both? Please?
Sebastian Smythe
Are you whining already, sweetheart? I haven’t even started yet.
Blaine Anderson
Maybe if you started, I wouldn't have to whine 😇 you try going a month and a half withou
Sebastian Smythe
Well after I kiss you until you’re lips are swollen and tease relentlessly, I would gag that sassy mouth of yours. Make you strip and kneel and just admire you for a little bit.
Should I keep going?
---
March 7, 2021
Blaine Anderson
Oh God I... yes, Sir. Please. Please keep going.
Sebastian Smythe
Then I would replace the gag with my cock. Fuck your mouth and choke you with it until you cry.
Blaine Anderson
I'm free tonight? 🙂 please get me off campus Sir I
Sebastian Smythe
Are you sure?
Blaine Anderson
Yeah. I have dinner with my family at 5 but right after that I'm free. I want to see you.
Sebastian Smythe
I can meet you at your dorm at 7pm.
Blaine Anderson
Sounds good, Sir. Thank you.
I don't want to wear these uniforms. I'm not even sure Carter and Princess get the blue ones? I have to see. I don't want any status symbols. And now my friend is getting punished and I just... God.
Sebastian Smythe
I was born in bred in uniforms, so I suppose they don't bother me too much. It's just an outer layer. But why don't you breathe for me sweetheart. Stop whatever you're doing, and take five seconds to just breathe.
Blaine Anderson
Yes, Sir.
[...]
I... okay. Thank you. I forgot, you're super fancy. I guess I just need you here. And I'm happy you're coming later. Looks like we get that hug sooner than tomorrow. Would you be okay to stay and cuddle for a while? I'll give you oreo pizza in exchange?
Sebastian Smythe
You don't have to give me anything in exchange.
Blaine Anderson
If you're sure. I also kind of want to delve into what we talked about earlier, if that's something you'd want, Sir. Kind of wanting you to be the first person to make me cry and choke while I'm here.
Sebastian Smythe
What if I want to be the only person to do that to you? Fuck. I want it, yes.
Blaine Anderson
I can't wait, Sir. You're going to look even more handsome from my place on the floor.
Sebastian Smythe
Do you have any idea how your words are affecting me right now?
Blaine Anderson
Maybe just a little? 😊and I haven't even really tried yet, Sir.
Sebastian Smythe
We're going to chalk it off to weeks of build up.
Blaine Anderson
That's fair. I can't wait to end the dry spell for you, Sir. If you think that's bad, try a little over two months.
Sebastian Smythe
Well I haven't exactly had a dry spell, I meant more in regards to a build up with you.
Blaine Anderson
Oh. Oh. Well... that's awesome. Good. So, other people know about you then? Let's pretend I said "Blaine Dry Spell" then. Either way, I really can't wait for tonight.
Sebastian Smythe
Do other people know that I fuck men? Yes. Do they know that I'm in the closet and in a sham of a claim/engagement? No.
Blaine Anderson
Ahhh got it. So, what I'm hearing is... I'm special? 😊 Also if you hold off on eating dinner tonight, we could eat together? Have you ever had Filipino food?
Sebastian Smythe
It's possible.
Is that like Mexican food?
Blaine Anderson
I dunno, do you like unseasoned food, Sir?
🙂
Sebastian Smythe
Um... no?
Blaine Anderson
There you go. ❤️
They're two completely different places.
Just come try it. You'll like it. ❤️
Sebastian Smythe
Okay. I'll try it. I'm leaving my place now, is your place cleared out?
Blaine Anderson
Yes, Sir! It is. I can't wait to see you. I'll leave the door unlocked.

[ Fantasies Come True ]
Blaine Anderson
That was fun, Sir. I wouldn't mind doing it again sometime. 😊
Sebastian Smythe
I'm sorry I couldn't stay the night. I wanted to.
Blaine Anderson
I wanted you to too, Sir. I almost fell asleep on your chest like five times. Just my luck everything gets revealed when I can't even fall asleep with you.
Your chest is comfortable.
Sebastian Smythe
I know. We'll be able to fall asleep together one day soon.
Blaine Anderson
Just a few more weeks. You make it home okay?
Sebastian Smythe
Yeah, and it smells like bleach. I think Frannie stress cleaned.
Blaine Anderson
Is she doing okay, Sir?
Sebastian Smythe
She must be stressed about her father having a hand in this.
Blaine Anderson
I heard about that, actually. Why can't he just leave them alone?
Sebastian Smythe
Because he's an egotistical narcissist? I wish there was something I could do.
Blaine Anderson
You're a really good person, Sir. I hope you know that. The fact that you wish you could says a lot.
But you should also know that... he's unfortunately a miserable, terrible person. Unfortunately. So just... don't be hard on yourself, if you are. Please?
Sebastian Smythe
No one likes Russell, that doesn't make me a good person.
I'm not being hard on myself, I promise.
Blaine Anderson
That's true. But you want to help Miss Frannie. That's what makes you a good person. You're a good person for the people you care about, but still a good person.
Yes, Sir. Good. I don't want you to.
Sebastian Smythe
I suppose I just have to take your word for it, hm?
Are you still wearing my hoodie?
Blaine Anderson
You will. 🙂 because it's true.
I haven't taken it off. I like how big it is.
Sebastian Smythe
It looks good on you, sweetheart. So fucking good.
Blaine Anderson
You think? Good, because it's mine now. 😁
Still smells like your cologne and everything. I love it.
Sebastian Smythe
Is that right? And if I wanted it back? It's a very comfortable sweater.
Blaine Anderson
🥺🥺🥺
Sebastian Smythe
That's not fair for you to use against me, sweetheart.
Blaine Anderson
Well, what if I used them while on my knees for you? Does that sweeten the deal at all? 😁
Sebastian Smythe
That will only make me want to rip it off of you even more.
Blaine Anderson
Holy hell As hot as that sounds, I like it too much to knowingly get it ripped. Is there any way I can keep it, Sir? 🥺 I'll give you one of mine? It might fit, but even if not... you could put it on a pillow?
Sebastian Smythe
I suppose the image of you wearing it is far better than actually having it. Though now that you mentioned it, I would like a shirt of yours. For my pillow.
Blaine Anderson
Does that mean I can keep it, Sir? Perfect. I'll give it to you when we meet for lunch tomorrow. I'll give you one of the ones I wear most often.
Sebastian Smythe
Yes, as far as I'm concerned, it's yours. I would like that very much.
