Normally it’s Pettersson carrying his teammates; this time, it’s the other way around. No offence meant to Pettersson, but I’m pretty sure he already knows.
To Pettersson’s credit, he’s on-key when Bublé puts him on the spot to sign “to town” all on his own. He’s probably a far better singer than he realizes, because it seems like he can literally do anything he wants to. At some point he’ll dissect his singing voice down into 12 parts and practice each of them individually the way he did with his slap shot until he can go from Barry White’s bassy growl to Mariah Carey’s whistle tone.
The best moment of the entire video is when Bublé shows his true Canucks fan bona fides, interjecting a zinger into his rendition of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”
“All of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names (like Messier!),” shouts out Bublé, who always knows exactly how to bring the house down.
This isn’t the first time Bublé has teamed up with a Canuck. When the crooner hosted the 2018 Juno Awards, he tagged a then-injured Brock Boeser for a magic mirror gag in his intro: when Bublé looked in the mirror, he saw the preternaturally-handsome Boeser running his hands through his Prince Charming-esque hair instead of his own, slightly-less-preternaturally-handsome mug.
Now Bublé just needs to do some comedy improv with Quinn Hughes to complete the young Canucks stars collection.

Remember Us This Way - Brock Boeser
Synopsis: The anxiety of getting married can only be calmed by one person: your soon-to-be-husband, Brock
Warnings: mentions of anxiety, claustrophobia
Words: 2.5k
“y/n, you know you can’t go see him! It’s bad luck!” your sister and maid of honor scolds you.
“Well, Ella, right now all I can think about is how the only person on the planet that can slow down my breathing is Brock, and not some stupid, made-up tradition!” You cry. Nothing had gone wrong per-say, you just felt like you were stuck in this bridal suite with too many people talking to you all at the same time.
You take a deep breath, knowing nothing is going to get better if you suddenly pull a Bridzella on the group of people surrounding you.
“I just want to hear his voice, okay? Can you please call him?”
Somewhere on the other side of the house is your soon-to-be husband who’s sipping some expensive alcohol and laughing with his buddies. He’s sitting on the window ledge, careful not to crease his grey dress pants, the top few buttons on his crisp white dress shirt undone, and the rest of his three piece suit is laying out on the couch in the middle of the room. The small bluetooth speaker that’s playing music suddenly cuts out, and the sound is replaced by his ringtone. He sets his whiskey glass down on the ledge, walking over to answer his phone.
Brock pulls his phone to his ear, immediately pulling it back from his ear in shock.
“Ella, please start over and this time slowly and calmly.” Brock chuckles, a hint of nerves laced in this tone.”
“Can you please come talk to y/n? She’s kind of starting to feel claustrophobic and says you’re the only one that can help.” She rushes out, sighing at the end.
Brock nods his head as he listens, “yeah, I’ll be right over. Tell her I love her.” He hangs up the phone, sliding it into his pocket before telling the guys he’ll be right back.
Brock doesn’t think he’s ever walked so fast and with such long strides in his life as walks to his soon to be wife’s bridal suite. His large first heavily knocks on the wooden door in front of him, a light smile on his lips thinking of what you look like on the other side.
Ella opens the door, just enough for her to peak her head through, “One second.” The door is shut just as quickly as it was open and Brock wipes his clammy palms on his pants. Not even a moment later, the door swings back open and Ella leads Brock into the room.
“Okay, no funny funny business, mister. You’re here just to calm her down and that’s it. If it were my way, I wouldn’t even let you in.”
Brock follows Ella to the entryway of the bedroom, stopping him short and going in herself. Seconds later he hears your shaking voice and your hand reach out around the wall for him.
“Hey, I’m here, baby. I’m here.” He assures softly, grabbing your manicured hand and squeezing it.
“Is everyone still out there?” You sheepishly ask, a small hiccup coming out as you ask the question.
Brock knows what you’re asking of him so he turns his head to the room asking everyone to give them some space for a few minutes.
“Everyone’s gone, it’s just you and me baby. Just like it always is.” He affirmed, “You and me against the world.”
A light chuckle leaves your lips, “You and me against the world.” You repeat the small mantra the both of you had adapted fairly early into your relationship.
“Ella said you were getting anxious? What’s up?” Brock inquired.
You can visualize his lips forming a tight line and his eyebrows raising as he asks you how you feel. “There was just a lot going on and I needed a break. I’m not nervous or anything really, I’m just really overwhelmed. I don’t want to mess anything up.” You answered, letting out an uneven, heavy breath.
“Oh, baby, you couldn’t possibly mess anything up. I’ve been waiting for this day ever since I knew you were my person.” He affirms. “I remember that night in Minnesota like it was my draft day.”
You smile, looking back to the memory of the night two and a half years ago when Brock had told you he was going to marry you someday.
----
“You’re an idiot, you know that?” You laugh, pushing a sweaty Brock off of you. He had just spent the past ten minutes up on the stage with the band that was playing tonight, singing alongside them to the oldies they were playing. Being one that didn’t favor attention too much, you let him have his fun with all of his hometown friends.
The off-season had just begun and the two of you were in his hometown, spending time with his friends before you headed back out to Vancouver. He had lost a bet to Shane, which led him to spending so much time up on the stage singing to songs he barely knew in front of strangers.
“Yeah, I may be, but you love me.” he sing-songs, putting emphasis on love.
You giggle as he sits down next to you to take a breather. The sun had set hours ago at this point, the only light coming from the dim bar lights and the street lamps shining outside. After everyone's calmed down from chirping your boyfriend, they all start making excuses to head out, the two of you electing to stay a little while longer.
Another hour or so passes and you can’t really remember when the music had stopped and when the once-crowded bar had become so empty. Brock comes back with the last round of drinks as the bartender lets them know it’s last call. Instead of sitting back down in the stool next to you, he opts to stand behind you.
Wrapping his arms around your neck, he rests his chin on your head, “You know, no matter what happens to us, I’ll always remember us this way. Two people insanely in love with another that won’t let anything get in the way. Like, it’s just you and me versus the world. It’ll always be like that.”
As he speaks, your heart feels like it’s about to burst in your chest and you have to stop taking small sips from your pint glass. The man behind you rarely used his words to show his love towards you and always insisted on showing it to you.
“I’m gonna marry you one day, you know. I promise.” He whispers, almost too quiet to hear. If he had said this not even 45 minutes earlier in the loud dive bar, you wouldn’t have even heard him, that’s how quiet he spoke.
“Yeah?” you ask, turning your head back to look back at him, a cheesy grin across your cheeks. His cheeks have a pink tint to them, the alcohol and heat of the bar getting to him, and his hair is a little messed up from playing with it throughout the night. “I like that idea.”
---
A lone tear escapes your eye and you pull your hand away from Brock’s to wipe it away. As you thought back to that memory, you hadn’t even noticed your breathing had become even.
Once your eyes dry back up, you grasp Brock’s hand once again. “I love you so much, even if you’re getting your pants wrinkled right now because I know how you’re sitting” You laugh, lightening the mood.
He laughs along with you, straightening out his legs against the floor, “I’ll get my mom to iron them when I get back to my room. I promise.”
“Thank you,” you whisper. “I’m sorry if I worried you at all when Ella called you earlier. I just knew talking to you would calm me down.”
“No worries, at all, y/n.” He reassures. The two of you sit in silence for a few more moments, Brock’s thumb rubbing over your hand in a calming manner.
“I love you, and I’ll see you in a little bit, okay? I’m gonna go now so you can get ready and have some fun with everyone before you’re a married woman.”
An hour or two later, you’re completely ready to walk down the aisle to meet Brock. The finishing touches on your hair and makeup had been complete about 30 minutes ago, the last of the time being spent taking photos with your bridesmaids and family.
You stand in front of the mirror, Ella handing you your flowers so you can get the full look at yourself. “You look gorgeous, y/n. Brock is going to lose it.”
Not too much longer later, you’re standing at the end of the pathway that leads to the garden your ceremony is being held in. Your dad tells you how happy he is for probably the fiftieth time that day alone, as the music starts for you to make your way down through the crowd towards Brock.
As you walk down the grassy, flower covered aisle, everything around you fades and the way he looks at you lights a fire in your soul. You can see him tense up before his best man gives him a handkerchief. He grabs the piece of cloth, wiping at the tears that are welling up in his eyes. Your smile widens as you see his emotions get the best of him, your own eyes starting to fill with tears.
What feels like hours, but was only seconds, later, your dad is giving you a hug and kiss before you step next to Brock, grabbing his outstretched hands. His thumbs brush over your hands, and he mouths a ‘you look beautiful’ to you as you both turn to the officiant.
The officiant runs through the ceremony before it’s time for you to say your vows to one another. “Brock, where do I even begin.” You sigh with a laugh. “You are the absolute love of my life to put it bluntly. If someone would've told me five years ago this is where I would be, I think I would’ve laughed. I mean, I’m literally standing in front of the real-world version of Prince Charming,” you laugh, knowing he hated being called that by anyone, including you. He lets out a little snort, tilting his head back at the nickname.
“I remember our first summer away from one another and how much I cried the week before and after you left. You went back home to train and see your family and I had dumbly taken a full semester’s worth of credits at school. It felt like my heart was taken back to Minnesota while my body was stuck in Vancouver. I thought you going away for road trips had prepared me for that, but boy was I wrong.” You laugh, the tears starting to flow from your eyes. Brock let go of your hand going to wipe them away, smiling fully at you.
“The biggest thing I learned that summer was that I would do everything in my power to always be fully with you when you were around. I promise to never to never come up short of fully loving you and to fully give you my heart and be the best partner I can be for the rest of our lives. I’ve loved you with all of my heart for awhile now, and I promise to never stop loving you with my whole being.” By the time you were done with your speech, the handkerchief Brock had once had is back in his hands as he wipes his own tears away from his cheeks.
Ella hands you the wedding band, which you take gracefully once you wipe the tears from your eyes. “I love you, and I promise to always remember us like this, completely and 100% in love with one another, even when you leave a pile of your shoes in the entryway even though I always tell you how big of a pet peeve of mine that is.” You concluded, sliding the thick, steel wedding band onto Brock’s left ring finger with shaky hands.
Brock takes a deep breath before starting, trying to calm his racing heartbeat, “I’m no poet, I think we all know that,” Brock starts, getting a chuckle from both you and the crowd around you. “But what I do know is that I love you and that I couldn’t imagine doing this with anyone else. Through the years of wins and losses, being by your side every night and every morning has shown me what true love really is, which is being there through thick and thin and for being my home away from home, and I thank you for that.”
He lets go of your hand for a brief second to fish in his inner-suit-pocket for your wedding band before starting again, “My whole life, all I’ve known is hockey and and life on the lake, then you came along and changed my perspective on a lot of things and taught me so much. Now, all I know is that you’re where I wanna go, and there’s a part of me that’s you and it’ll never die. When I look at you the whole world fades, and I am so thankful to have love like this with you. I am forever grateful for the life you've given me over the past few years and I can’t wait to continue to grow alongside you. Like I’ve been saying since that night in the bar by ourselves a few years ago, it’s just you and me, baby, forever. I promise to always remember us this way. When times get tough, I’ll always remember the good and the love between us, and I promise to never forget what brought us here today.”
Once his vows come to a close, there’s not a dry eye in the house. Brock, one never being one to fully express his emotions with words has small tears flowing down his cheeks, and you couldn't believe he was standing in front of you at your wedding. He grabs your shaking hands and slides the wedding band onto your finger where it meets the engagement ring. You whisper another quick ‘I love you’ before the officiant continues on with the ceremony.
“I now present to you, for the very first time, Mr. and Mrs. Brock Boeser!” The officiant exclaims as the crowd begins to cheer, “you may now kiss your bride.”
Before the officiant is even done speaking, Brock has your face in his hands and is pulling your face to his. The kiss is full of passion and feelings and feels like one you've only been waiting your whole life to experience. You pull away slightly, only to look into his pale blue eyes, a wide smile covering your face before he leans back in to give you another quick kiss.
Pulling apart Brock grabs your hand and leads you down the aisle away from the altar. As the cheering around you continues, the both of you join in, Brock lifting your clasped hands in the air.

Date Night
So like, some really exciting news, but I got accepted into UPenn for my masters this morning! I was holding office hours for my students when I got the email and had to do everything in my power to not freak out over it.
But this is another request (I LOVE GETTING REQUESTS) so thank you to the angel human who sent it in!
Here is the original request!
_________________________
Vancouver was still completely foreign to you; you moved there about two months ago because of a new job. Luckily, one of your friends from college was looking for a roommate at the same time, so you swooped in and had a place to live.
“Are you gonna go out with that hockey player?” Your roommate asks you one night.
“Who, Brock?” your roommate had a friend who was friends with some of the guys who played for the Canucks. You were a Blue Jackets girl yourself, but, they insisted on setting you up with Brock Boeser. He wanted to start dating, and you knew exactly five people outside of your roommate and your work friends and needed a bigger friend group.
“Uh, yeah. The literal Prince Charming of the NHL,” she yells.
“Yeah, tomorrow night.” Prince Charming? He was hot in photos, but you don’t see the Prince Charming aspect of him.
“Oh thank god!”
Brock had texted you to meet at the Granville Island Public Market.
“What do you want to get? Have you ever been here before?
“Uh, I don’t even know what’s here, I’ve never been here.”
“Alright, then do you want me to pick, or do we want to do a lap and then you can pick?”
If this was how the rest of the night was going to go, then you didn’t see a second date happening.
“Uh, how about you pick? You’ve been here longer than I have, you know the good stuff, right?” you say, giving him a smile that was trying to not be too awkward.
It took a solid five minutes to weave through the crowded market, him taking you to what he kept saying was ‘his favorite place.’ You could feel the eyes of the other people fall on you as you walked around with one of the area’s biggest athletes. Because of the crowd, at one point he grabbed your hand. With his fingers intertwined in yours, all the awkwardness seemed to melt away. It felt right.
You finally found your way to Gourmet Wok. “Is this alright?”
The smell of lemon chicken, sweet and sour pork, wontons and sticky rice hit your nose, “Yeah, I’m down.”
He insisted on ordering for you since he wanted you to have something great your first time going. After that, you were on your own to figure out the rest of that restaurant. “If you need help with the others, you just have to call me,” he winked, flashing a cheeky grin and walked away to go order while you found a place to sit.
You finally understood the Prince Charming reference. He literally looked like an actual Disney prince. And he was as charming as any man you’ve ever met.
“Alright, I got you curry chicken and veggies on rice.” He says, finally coming back after what felt like ages.
“Oh my god, this smells so good. What did you get?”
“Shanghai noodle with meat.”
“What kind of meat?”
“Beef? I don’t know. Something amazing.” he says, laughing, pushing his food toward you. “Here, try it.”
While you take his food, he reaches over to take some of yours. “Hey, hey, hey! What gives?” you tease, throwing some rice from your plate at him.
He dodges it, pretending to throw a much messier vegetable at you. “I paid for it! I can steal a little if I want, it’s only fair.” he grins again, making you melt and smile back at him.
“Fine, that just means next time I’m buying the food.” You didn’t even know you wanted ‘a next time,’ but something about him made you think there would be more than just this.
“Oh, no. I already have our next date planned, and it does not involve buying food, it involves a picnic of prepared foods, by me.”
“You already have it planned?” you feel yourself blushing as you try to take a bite of some of your food to distract him from your cheeks that were obviously turning bright red.
“Well, I have two ideas, especially since you seem to never go out of your home or your office.” he teases.
“I’m an accountant for RYU, calm down. I do a lot of stuff every day!”
Brock rolls his eyes, the smile still plastering his face. “Anyway, I was thinking we could either go to Stanley Park given that it’s not too cold, and have a picnic there. But that’s just one option for us to do at some point. Or we could drive along BC-99 and find a place to stop there and just look out at the scenery. Your friend also said you work out, which is great because my favorite place to go work out is the Cleveland Dam, so we could go there. Or we could...”
He keeps going on about all the dates he has planned out. He actually has at least ten more dates for you two all planned out. You’re sure he does this with any girl, but he looks so cute getting all excited about the stuff he wants to do with you.
“So which one sounds good to you? When’s the next time you’re free? I don’t have anything going on Saturday.”
“Do you want to do BC-99? Let me pack the picnic but you’re driving on Saturday.”
The rest of the night was you two talking about your lives; his life before playing for the Canucks, your life before moving to another country for work. The conversation seemed to never end as you jumped from subject to subject, laughing at each other opening up about dumb stuff you’ve done in past, talking about your favorite memories growing up, crazy hypotheticals like if you had the ability to time travel, where would you go. You said you would go back to the flapper era in New York, right before the depression; he would want to go one hundred years into the future to Los Angeles to see how the movie industry changed.
Before the market closes, he takes you by the hand to lead you to A La Mode for some dessert. Running his free hand through his hair, he says, “The lemon meringue pie is to die for.”
“Lemon meringue is my favorite!”
He orders for you, again paying. “I said I’m paying tonight, I don’t know what you want from me.”
“That just means I’m bringing more food for Saturday.” “Oh, no. What ever will we do with more food?”
You couldn’t wait to see.

My 10 Favorite WWE Matches of All Time (updated)
10: The 2001 Royal Rumble No matter how daft and stupid the product gets, I will never not stoke my head in around January. The Royal Rumble is my favorite match, but this one is my favorite favorite instance of that match. The pacing, the beautiful endurance of Kane, the hardcore interval (which Kane just decides to destroy), the Big Show returning after 4 months just to get shit-canned a minute into his run. There is so much to love about this mess. The preview of Rock and Austin that year for their Wrestlemania showdown. The fact that 4 or 5 of them (Rock, Austin, Kane, Undertaker, even Rikishi) could have been main event contenders. The best midcard in WWE history. Scotty 2 Hotty having the worst night of his life. Drew Carey just showing up. Bradshaw just cliffing everyone, because he's gotta get his shit in. Good Rumbles are like a 3 course meal, and this one is like all your courses at once, and then dessert is a treat you could die on. 9. Tyler Bate vs. WALTER - Takeover Cardiff Crowds make a lot of matches for me (thanks, 2020) but this crowd is especially electric, and for 24-year-old Tyler Bate, who is taking on a TANK, and that tank's name is WALTER, a TANK. But I will never not be a sucker for a David vs. Goliath story, and it was never better told than the boy made of thighs vs. the destroyer made of shattering palms. It is SO CARNY, so many feats of strength, so many OOOOOFS AND UUUUUURGHS that make this so great. Tyler was a hero on this night, but everyone knew he wasn't ready to win. Every feat is a magnificent reach. And it all means something to everyone. Make them what they know SHOULD happen and still surprise them with it. His "refusing to quit!" only to get shut down by a fucking chop. HE STANDS but is immediately ruined. It makes me. This shit fucking makes me. 8. Sasha Banks vs. Bayley, 30-Minute Iron Woman Match - Takeover Respect Most of this is just a remix of their epic and warranted classic in Brooklyn. but then Sasha takes the headband off of Izzy. And then they both stepped it up and were *amazing*. We somehow lost Bayley's "RAAAAAH'S and that's sad for me. But then they RAMP IT UP. NOBODY LIKES YOU. FUCK YOU. WE'RE HAPPIER NOW. (WE'RE NOT.) But seriously, Sasha taking Izzy's headband and then THROWING IT AT HER started something special, something grand. THE OUTRAGE. The bastion of heel heat. And then the match got better. They hugged at the end of their encounter in Brooklyn, but then they started poisoning one another. And it all started with this amazing match. (Also, Bayley's amazing red and gold robot tights.) 7. Kurt Angle vs. Shawn Michaels, Wrestlemania 21 Listen. HBK's 'Mania outings with the Undertaker are solid "match of the decade" contenders, piss-easy. They are peerless, they are in a league of their own. But saying they're your favorite? Unless you are an actual wrestler, that's like saying "UH, MY FAVE BAND IS THE BEATLES." Ya boring, ya basic, and we can all do better. And seeing how I'm in my late 30s, I understand wrestling a little different than I did when I made this list in...2016??? Christ. I bet AJ Styles vs. John Cena was on it that year. Two of the best performers, both in their prime, and looking back on it, I just prefer the mix of character dynamics at play. Angle is easily one of the best in the world, but he has such an inferiority complex, because he's an Olympic gold medalist who is told *nightly* that he sucks, and he CAN'T best Michaels. He keeps coming back, and he's so charming, so effortlessly good at this whole "wrestling" thing, and it's slowly making Angle, who SHOULD be all of those things, absolutely *spare.* And that informs so many spots and story moments in the match itself, specifically when Angle LOSES it and starts shouting at him, only to have a superkick partied under his face. Angle is one of the best ever because his wrestling acumen served his character, never once defined it. 6. Vince McMahon vs. Shane McMahon, Wrestlemania 17 I haven't gone back to watch the whole of Vince vs. Shane THAT many times. What I have done is watch the finish about 65 times. There is something so addictive and magical about that one pop, when Linda stands up from her chair, and the ENTIRE crowd stands with her. And I'll 100% agree that Vince's comeuppance - one slap, one hoof to the balls, a Mandible Claw and a Coast-To-Coast dropkick - is not NEAR the actual comeuppance he should have gotten for some of the deplorable shit his character got up to from around the Rumble to this match (two of which they've done their very best to scrub from history, they're THAT bad.) But it's the purest example I can think of, of that pantomime aspect of wrestling. Vince McMahon is a deranged bastard. He likes dumb, cruel, crude things, but his commitment to being the world's 2nd-worst lizard man makes some of the stuff that happens to him more richly rewarding than almost any retribution in any medium, ever. The final 4 minutes of that match, the crowd is a fireworks display. They rise, they explode, they rise and explode, over and over. And again, shoutout to my boy 2020 for making me miss a crowd THAT big having THAT good a time. 5. Adam Cole vs. Johnny Gargano - 2 out of 3 falls - TakeOver New York Now look, I'm not saying that NXT is essentially perfect for me, in terms for what I look for in wrestling. What I will say is that when it cooks, it combines the very best of indie stamina, choreography and stunt work with something WWE sometimes gets VERY right, and that is unabashed, unironic emotion. And it's not even that the intimacy of NXT being a smaller promotion has a denser, more specifically passionate fanbase. It's just the fact that NXT understands that so often, nuance and drama in wrestling doesn't come from promos, or swerves, or endless escalations of said drama, but from getting the FUCK out of the way and letting two of the best in the world *wrestle.* NXT is so good for providing context for the acts of jealousy, pride and entitlement, and then laying out a match that touches on all of these emotions throughout. This main event, built in two weeks, after a terribly-timed Ciampa injury, is actually VERRRY clever booking...disguised to look really simple. Cole starts the match as the crowd favorite, because he's the cool tweener everyone likes (with a catchphrase) to Gargano's unironic Disney prince. Over the course of Cole going all out, making subtle references to Johnny's feud with Ciampa, Gargano fighting from underneath, total fuck-off bastardry from the Undisputed Era (making poor Mauro Ranallo yell "YOU SNAKES!!") Maybe Cole WAS the better choice, but by the end of it, you didn't care. On that night, Johnny refused to lose, and the constant, exciting, *involving* wrestling dragged you to that emotional place. Damn right, you deserve it. 4. CM Punk vs. John Cena, Money In the Bank 2011 It might be a simple choice, but also, sometimes, it's really really gratifying to see a crowd who wants something get what they fucking want for once. A hot crowd makes a good match great, and a great match THIS. A crowd united, either for one guy, and against another, and in this case, BOTH. It makes every. Move. Matter. Trying to find a new angle on this match is like trying to find a new way to say fire is warm. And this crowd created a CAUSE. The no-sold pinfall, the attempted rehash of the Screwjob. Point out the botches if you must. The angle, the promo...it got my friends back into wrestling, a reason to care until the Shield. It's not the best, but it deserves to be. There is no wrestling crowd I wish I was more a part of. And I was at King of the Ring 1998. 3. Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar, 60-Minute Iron Man match, Smackdown of September 18, 2003 It MAYBE was a bit of a "hipster" choice to name this my number 1 in 2016. But you know what? Bloody holds up. Two performers who feel "destined to do this forever," like a Triple H/Shawn Michaels, or a Kevin Owens/Sami Zayn. Possessed of freakish physical charisma, could go for days if pressed. Brock Lesnar, literally at the time ONE OF THE BEST ATHLETES in the WORLD being a lazy fucker and taking DQ points, laying the foundation of what Brock Lesnar would come to be known as. And Angle, in that rare position of everyone knowing he's the best thing going. Brilliant Lazy Asshole Brock and Certified Wrestling Machine Angle are two of my unironic favorite characters in all of wrestling, and it's a buffet of THAT. Like a Royal Rumble, only it's just two dudes, being the best they've ever been. 2. DIY vs. the Revival - 2 out of 3 falls - TakeOver Toronto "Tag team wrestling?" says main roster WWE. "What is this...tag team wrestling?" Well, this is it, at its absolute best. It's up there with Rey Mysterio and Edge vs. Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle from No Mercy 2002 for just brilliant, rock-solid tag team psychology. There are more story opportunities when there are more rules to break, how can WWE *not get behind that?* In terms of chemistry, both between opponents and between teams, in terms of callbacks like Johnny muscling through the exact same inverted figure four that lost them the belts in Brooklyn. It is a perfect match. Not an ounce of fat on it. And that closing sequence, of each member of DIY locking the Revival in their signature holds, and the men now known as FTR clinging to one another. It's probably the best tag match in the history of the WWE, and considering the caliber of tag matches on TakeOvers, is FUCKING saying something. 1. Daniel Bryan vs. Brock Lesnar, Survivor Series 2018 This match is everything I always hoped for. For the longest time, after the 2015 Royal Rumble debacle, when Reigns won, when simply everything we knew about storytelling said "no, of course it should be Bryan," I wondered what that 'Mania match would look like. If it were anything like this, I would have died a happy man. But then again, what makes this match so GOOD is that Bryan had just come back from an early retirement caused by head and neck surgery, and here he is, being dropped on his head and neck by Brock Fucking Lesnar, aka what would happen if the concept of "not giving a shit" gained corporeal form and starting shilling for Jimmy John's. The match gets really ugly, really fast, and Bryan takes us to uncomfortable places with his selling. It wasn't just the retirement angle, it was also the fact that Brock had turned out some REALLY lazy shit by that point in his career, so we had all mentally prepared for another finish-spamming early night. And then. AND THEN... Bryan hoofs him in the walnuts, hits the running knee, gives us the absolute closest 2-count of the decade, and then the fight is fucking on. Bryan went, over the course of 2 minutes, from never having a chance against Brock Lesnar to it being an *absolute certainty* that he was going to BEAT BROCK LESNAR. Anytime you visibly leave your seat every few seconds during a match, you know it's a special one. Again, it took me away, had me absolutely *screaming* at my monitor, elated, invested, and I don't know what more your favorite match can ask of you. But what happens when your favorite match isn't a match at all? No. 0: The Firefly Funhouse - Wrestlemania 36 I'm not kidding, it actually might be my favorite thing. It could be just my brain latching onto the Cult of the New, but I don't think so. It's not a match, I get it. It exists in a weird null-void outside of time and space, but mostly I am floored that they would broadcast something so virulently anti-WWE. Like, we talk of CM Punk and how WWE let him get away with all his little jokes and cut his little Pipebomb promo. But then WWE signed off on Bray Wyatt tearing the soul out of their business. Burying the biggest star of this generation, skewering and laying bare all of terrible WWE's terrible priorities, and also celebrating insider knowledge, wrestling history, and I just...love it. Right now, it's my favorite thing WWE have ever put out, because it did something they've never done before, told a story I didn't think they were capable of telling. And sure, it was Bray who told it, but I still can't believe it aired. But I am endlessly thankful that it did.

Misty Playlist for Misty Day
A Character Study in Insecurity and Self-Love
Green Eyes, Red Hair - Gaelic Storm
She's a cup of tea, she's a Jaegerbomb She's an angel, she's an Amazon She's a poem, she's an alphabet She's a violin with a bayonet She's a revolution, she's a peace accord She's a grain of sand, she's the Cliffs of Moher She's Friday night, she's Sunday Morning She's a fair wind, she's a sailor's warning
I think one of the main reasons I love Misty so much is she’s a bit of an oxymoron. She has so many contradicting personality traits which fleshes her character out. She’s tough but she’s vulnerable, she’s romantic but she’s abrasive, she’s outspoken but she’s insecure. Oftentimes characters and people are put into boxes, if you act one way all the others traits should act accordingly. But Misty represents how that’s not how people work, you can have completely opposite traits existing in you and that’s ok.
Insecurities - LOVA
Meet my insecurities Let’s count in one two three Not smart, not pretty like a star Not weak, not tough, not nearly good enough Meet my insecurities Let’s count in one two three Not small, not skinny like a doll Not sleak, not rough, not nearly good enough
Misty’s childhood has shaped her into an insecure young girl. From what we know, her older sisters constantly tell her how she isn’t pretty, calling her a runt. This would be reinforced as everyone in Cerulean City would come to see them perform leaving Misty to be ignored and alone. We don’t have any information about her parents, but Misty’s sisters would be given gifts that she would later get on as hand-me-downs. It could be assumed those presents were given by their parents, so not only would Misty be left out of playing with her sisters, but her parents probably never bought her a gift of her own. All of this reinforces the negative message that Misty is not worth anything. She feels she isn’t pretty and she’s not as good as her sisters. So when anyone like Ash brings up how she isn’t pretty, it obviously brings up those insecurities that she already has.
How Far I’ll Go - Auli’i Cravalho
I’ve been staring at the edge of the water Long as I can remember, never really knowing why I wish I could be the perfect daughter But I come back to the water, no matter how hard I try Every turn I take, every trail I track Every path I make, every road leads back To the place I know, where I can not go, where I long to be
As Misty grows up, she has this longing to go out and explore the world. Part of it comes from her insecurities, perhaps she thought she can’t be as pretty as her sisters but maybe she could become a stronger trainer. She wants to be able to prove to them and to herself that she can be worth something. Deep down, she has a genuine love for water and Pokemon and a desire to travel.
Oh No! - Marina and the Diamonds
I know exactly what I want and who I wanna be I know exactly why I walk and talk like a machine I’m now becoming my own self-fulfilled prophecy Oh, oh no, oh no, oh no, oh! One track mind, one track heart If I fail, I’ll fall apartMaybe it is all a test Cause I feel like I’m the worst, so I always act like I’m the best
Misty’s insecurity begins to take form in a superiority complex. Throughout her entire life, no one has told Misty she is good enough, so she gathers that if no one else will talk her up then she will. Of course, just because she says how great and beautiful she is, does not mean she actually believes it. In fact, just the opposite. Because she receives no outside validation, all of her confidence has no real meaning, her self-compliments just leave her empty.
Dear Future Husband - Meghan Trainer
Dear future husband Here’s a few things You’ll need to know if you wanna be My one and only all my life Dear future husband If you wanna get that special loving Tell me I’m beautiful each and every night
This next portion of the playlist focuses on Misty’s outlook on romance. Misty is a huge romantic, she loves love and wants her own happily ever after. Misty’s ideal romance is full of cliches, she wants a knight in shining armor, a prince charming who will sweep her off her feet with extravagant gifts and big romantic gestures. Misty’s ideal romantic partner is just that though, he has no name or personality, he’s just someone she wants to have shower her with affection. Again this could stem from her lack of affection in her childhood, she wants someone who will tell her she’s pretty and give her the love she never got as a kid.
Use Somebody - Laura Jansen
I’ve been roaming around Always looking down at all I see Painted faces, fill the places I can’t reach You know that I could use somebody You know that I could use somebody Someone like you, and all you know, and how you speak
The switch in Misty’s feelings, she no longer is looking for love, love has found her. We see this change when Misty could have the romantic ideal with Rudy, he’s charming, suave, and definitely would be the one to fill the role of her dream guy showering her with gifts and compliments- but that’s not what she wants anymore. Instead, she wants someone like Ash, who Misty absolutely did not picture as her ideal at all. However, she accepts and wants him because of who he is, and isn’t that what love is all about?
Tangled Up In Me - Skye Sweetnam
You wanna know more, more, more about me Gotta know reverse psychology I’m the reason why you can’t get to sleep I’m the girl you never get just quite what you see
For all the sentimental songs on this playlist, there still is Misty’s harsh attitude towards Ash. Misty has always acted this way around him, even before realizing her feelings. Misty’s rude behavior definitely isn’t going to go away, especially when Ash is just as guilty insulting her any chance he gets. While Misty could be trying to push his buttons to get under his skin for fun, or to see how he’d react, maybe it’s just from being scared. She’s acted horribly to him, and now that she feels something more, she doesn’t want him to know. So she decides she’ll keep up appearances by just being the hot-tempered friend following him for her bike.
Things I’ll Never Say - Avril Lavigne
It don’t do me any good It’s just a waste of time What use is it to you What’s on my mind If it ain’t coming out We’re not going anywhere So why can’t I just tell you that I care
Following that same theme, this is Misty’s more vulnerable side that she’d never voice (the “Misty’s Song” of the playlist). Misty might feel like she could tell Ash how she feels about him but of course does not. Part of her feels angry and annoyed that he doesn’t seem as concerned about her as she is with him, but because of that insecurity she has it makes sense she’d think it’s no use, she has no chance. After all, he pokes fun at her appearance a lot, she feels like she already knows how he feels about her, and it’s not positive.
Better Place - Rachael Platten
But it feels like I’ve opened my eyes again And the colors are golden and bright again There’s a song in my heart, I feel like I belong It’s a better place since you came along It’s a better place since you came along
Switching from romance, Misty does feel like she’s found a family with Ash and Brock. After a childhood of not fitting in, she finally has people who love her for who she is. She can finally be herself, she doesn’t feel like she needs to measure up to anyone, she finally feels like she belongs.
“So you’ve been traveling with Ash and Brock for a long time?" “They’re like my new family.”
Black Hole - She & Him
And it just gets so foggy It’s nowhere in here And it’s everywhere else That I don’t want to be But I’m stuck here Getting misty over you I’m alone, on a bicycle for two
The journey has to come to an end, though. Misty’s family feels like it’s breaking up, and is understandably upset when Ash seems unfazed by her upcoming departure. She doesn’t want to leave, she wants to stay with the people she’s grown to love, the people who were more like family to her than her own sisters. She rides off on her bike, alone.
Head Above Water - Avril Lavigne
And I can’t see in the stormy weather I can’t seem to keep it all together And I can’t swim the ocean like this forever And I can’t breathe God, keep my head above water I lose my breath at the bottom Come rescue me, I’ll be waiting I’m too young to fall asleep
Misty finds herself in over her head as she takes over the Cerulean Gym. Not only does she struggle with her fear of Gyarados and the possibility of the gym being shut down, but she’s also still struggling with her own insecurities. Without Ash and Brock, she doesn’t think she can be the Cerulean Gym Leader, she’s terrified of not being good enough. She nearly dies twice trying to keep the gym afloat, she literally and figuratively is drowning.
Woman - Kesha
I do what I want, say what you say I work real hard every day I’m a motherfucking woman, baby, alright I don’t need a man to be holding me too tight I’m just having fun with my ladies here tonight I’m a motherfucker
After Misty is able to handle the issues at the Cerulean Gym, she finally has a sense of validation that came from her. She was able to save the gym, not her sisters, not Ash and Brock, her. Her insecurities will never go away, but she has a sense of self-confidence that she never had. Now when she talks about herself being beautiful and strong, she means it. She doesn’t need anyone to tell her that she's worthy of love, she knows it. She’s worked hard and sees she has value, whether others see it or not.

Our heroes seem to arrive in Viridian City without any further distraction. While there Misty notices Horsea doesn’t look so good. This means they leave the city and go back to Cerulean City to get it some good water. Of course following the story can’t be that easy.
When they get to Cerulean City our gang sees there’s an underwater ballet and pokemon show happening. This is actually a ploy by Misty’s sisters. They’re using Misty to star in their show and get more attention for them since their shows aren’t selling as well anymore. Naturally Misty’s super unhappy about this turn of events. She ends up reluctantly agreeing to their plans and rehearsals begin.
Team Rocket finds out about the show and starts scheming a way to get some water pokemon. The next day the show starts. Misty makes a great little mermaid, but the nice performance is interrupted by Team Rocket. Team Rocket takes Violet and Lily’s place as the terrible villains. They start stealing all the water pokemon while the audience thinks they’re part of the show.
Ash and Brock literally jump in to help Misty. Arbok and Horsea have an underwater with some help from Seaking. Ash has Squirtle join the fight with Starmie. In the end it’s Seel that defeats Team Rocket mostly by evolving into Dewgong. Pikachu sends Team Rocket blasting off and the day is saved. The audience loved the “show” and now all the shows for six months are sold out. Misty’s sisters aren’t content though, they keep Horsea and Starmie. Now they head back to Viridian City for Ash’s Earth Badge.
Any Surprises?
Misty’s Horsea gets use
Misty’s sisters are still awful
Daisy’s the prince
Brock likes that charming prince
Arbok can breath underwater
Weezing floats to the top of the pool and dies instantly
Psyduck can’t swim or breath underwater
Ash can use the pokedex underwater
Misty loses two pokemon!
The water ballet scene was really adorable. Misty actually looks great interacting with all the water pokemon in her little costume. The whole ballet is pretty fun to watch. The underwater battle is pretty cool. Team Rocket felt very natural in this episode even though they were just barging in on an event. I liked that Weezing was useless and floated to the top. I didn’t expect logic that that. It was also great seeing some of Misty’s underused pokemon. Everyone including Seel working together to defeat Arbok was pretty impressive. It’s too bad Misty’s sisters had to be in this episode.
Misty’s sisters are still completely awful. They are so demanding of Misty and it’s awful to watch. Especially since even when Misty does exactly what they ask at least one of them make some sort of catty remark about it. They were so useless and only served to start the plot. They couldn’t even help in the battle when Seel was their own pokemon! They didn’t even know the little pokemon could battle. It also sucks that they take Horsea and Starmie. This is more on the creators, but those pokemon have gotten like no use and now they’re just being dropped. Misty better get a new pokemon soon for her trouble.
Don't mind us we're just taking a quick break in Cerulean City Our heroes seem to arrive in Viridian City without any further distraction. While there Misty notices Horsea doesn't look so good.
