Has anyone noticed how they are closer to each other this season?!

Let's hope they won't have turned their backs on each other for season 3!

I want to see a pose where they face each other really closely and are wrapped in each other's wings as if beneath a canopy. Bonus points if it's raining.

comics as an art form make me insane. they’re so difficult to do well. there’s so many different ways to make sequential art work and most of them are deeply unintuitive. onomatopoeia that feels completely ridiculous to put down often reads seamlessly. panels on a page become a fractally nested image composition challenge that’s only possible to lose because if you do a good job no one will notice. you have to direct the readers’ eyes on a specific path across the page but also account for the fact that they won’t follow it. comic time isn’t linear. if the order of events isn’t crystal clear the story becomes incomprehensible. sometimes you need to do this on purpose. all this for a medium almost universally considered less effective than animation and less respectable than plain text. even its own name doesn’t take it seriously

#don’t mind me just chewing on drywall #some of the absolute best comics don’t look remotely impressive until you try to make one yourself #and some absolutely beautiful panel layouts and art combine to make a stunning visual that barely manages to get any meaning across #you have to emulate cinematography by cultural necessity at this point #but if you lean too hard in that direction your comics just become Worse Movies #there’s barely any standard practices for anything because people are just barely starting to look at comics seriously #mumbling

it’s so interesting how gloreth is seen not only as some great noble hero, a warrior who bravely slayed the monster, but also as an adult. a grown-up knight who knew what she was going. when in reality she was just a little kid. a kid who didn’t know what she was doing, not really. a kid with a wooden sword. a kid under her parents’ influence. a kid who only started seeing nimona as a monster because that’s what she was told. and yet she ended up depicted as an adult in the statue, in the storybooks, in the scroll used to justify trying to kill nimona again.

at the beginning of the movie when she’s being introduced via storybook, she says “go back to the shadows from whence you came” in a courageous, commanding voice, even though that’s not quite what happened! in reality her voice was scared, and a little bit uncertain. the narrative was always twisted in her favor because she was seen as the hero.

i will say that even with the nitpicks i have, i do appreciate the visual imagery of these couple of panels. it does a good job of conveying the trapped and terrified state of mind persephone was in because of apollo.

ALBERT BOOM!!!! Ophelia ref was supposed to be up next but the universe decided it hated me actually and killed the file for that :(

more in depth info about my goofy guy below the cut!!!!!

probably the core of Albert's everything is how lonely he is :(. he's definitely built a shell of hostility around himself. cause people can't push him away if he does it first!!!! right!!!!!! he puts a LOT of his (dwindling) energy into keeping up this "too cool for you! bitter! angry!" persona.

beneath the insults that sounded cooler in his head, Albert's a goober who likes cheesy old comics and videogames and cargo shorts and his bike. when he first meets Jinny and Ophelia, he's just as prickly to them as he is to everyone else. but over time and many goofy shenanigans later, he learns that he doesn't have to deal with everything alone. maybe. :)
