Megumin Ep9

I know I said on like ep 5 or 6 that that coulda been the finale but this one felt even more like one since they actually arrived to axel. but no there's still 3 more. the ep wasn't bad tho, actually had some decent animation when arnes was making that death ball, big sad she died tho she was a baddie

Imas CG: U149 Ep8

very good ep, like usual, elevated even more cause it had so much kiryuu too tho I talked about that in another post. not much else to say, tho I want to give a shoutout to that one scene of character acting with just chie's hands around 12:30 (it's the 3rd one in this tweet, rest of the thread is good too tho)

Mashle Ep8

I forgot they mentioned I0 this early in the story (big final boss) but anyway. the 1v1s have finally started, up until now the animation has been serviceable but nothing to write home about. the fight with dot in this episode was not any different, perhaps slightly better than average, but now that the 1v1s are starting I'm hoping for at least a crumb of sakuga. from the next ep title it sounds like next episode it's gonna be mash vs razor which is the one fight out of these 3 I want to look good the most. I guess they're doing this fight first cause it'll end with mash fighting the puppet guy for the finale and they wouldn't want to have 2 mash fights back to back

Pokemon Horizons Ep9

good ep, we're finally in paldea and riko realized that despite this being their goal for a while it would've meant the end of her adventures with the crew. ofc that would never happen since she's the mc of the show, but it was nice seeing her come to terms with her desires and expressing herself to her dad and stuff. but forget all that cause next week is NEMONA DAY BABY LET'S GO

good ep, I already knew it had some sakuga but it was still nice to see, I was hoping the whole fight overall looked a bit better but the big that DID look good (I posted a clip of it) sated me enough. I liked the chanting they had for the prayer forest but I wish they kept it going in the background whenever someone was there and not only when gabimaru got there, felt like a waste when they could've had that extra flavour I think. next episode we're gonna start getting our first glimpses into tao tho iirc it won't get thouroughly explained until basically the end when the group is all together

very cool chap, considering the last one I thought it was just gonna be momo showing off but it was actually jiji and aira. it was cool seeing them apply the spiral stuff that okarun learned about but it's also exciting to know okarun is almost there. tho at this point I'm expecting that he won't even be able to show his power up since the baddies will be all beaten by then

good chap, I was curious to see what advice the guy was gonna give azemichi but it wasn't anything out of left field and was pretty sensible. I also really liked the analogy he used for how he makes jokes. anyway my buddy mega thinks it's gonna end after the competition coming next, since obata usually does short series, but we'll see. I wouldn't be surprised tho, it'd be a nice stopping point

I shoulda known that they weren't actually gonna kill anyone, series is too goofy for that. nue is cute tho, can't see it all there but she got a good design

I like ishida's work, I do, but it's hard to keep up when we've only been getting 1 chap like every 2 months. the chapter itself was nice, some cool action and seems like next we'll get the backstory for that noh guy. but again like I said, having such a long gap between chapters isn't good, ishida stories can already be hard to keep up with normally but this just makes it harder

damn mega said this was a very eventful chapter and he wasn't kidding. I didn't expect that twist at the end but I'm sure it's gonna be a fake out, there's no way they'd her off screen like this she's too important

?????????? I thought there had been some bad chaps but this one took the cake, like what? I guess it's so it can continue until the next serialization round, same as ichinose but that doesn't make it any less bad

Nue's Exorcist Ch4

ok chapter, the girl's exorcist outfit has a cool design and the action wasn't too bad, I was hoping there wasn't gonna be more fanservice in this chap but I shoulda known better, that's not gonna save your series kawae you gotta try something else

Kill Blue Ch7

ah yes the classic "elite students that the mc has to defeat in order to achieve is goal", it's a fine trope tho. having these powerful guys coming after noren should shake things up and create the opportunity for some cool action scenes. curious to see how fujimaki handles this

very good chap, it's crazy to see the difference in quality between this and nue when they debuted back to back. you can really tell kirarazaka learned a lot from his time under matsui, you can really tell in the art ofc like I mentioned before but also in the paneling. it's funny cause this is the series from this batch I had the lowest expectations for but it surprassed them a lot while nue is the complete opposite

Blue Box Ch103

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED LET'S GO miura you madwoman you actually did it god that was good, these last few chaps building up the tension for this and now this release were just so good. the confession being 3 spreads at the end was extremely good too, really giving you time to soak it in, also not as impressive but that page with the 4 panels of taiki and natsu running and it being like the continuation of each other looked really good too

Cipher Academy Ch26

very good chap, the return of the broken glass imagery from her battle with iroha was especially very cool I was hoping something like this would happen when tayu offered to fight instead but I didn't expect it to be over so soon

Tenmaku Cinema Ch8

good chap keeping the quality consistent, I guess that's the power of a veteran duo and as usual the information about filming terms and stuff is really neat to see I've said before but I don't think this series is gonna be long, which is a good thing mind you, tho I got no idea how long it could be, mayhaps a handful of vols? or just a bit more

good chap, the good ol "power of friendship" saves the day not like that's a bad thing this IS jump after all. the action was good and that panel with mash smiling was really good too. I'm hoping for a bit more out of this fight but it prob won't be happening at this point also if me and mega's prediction of the manga ending only when the anime does it'd line up perfectly since there's 5 more chaps left to fill a vol and there's 4 more eps of the anime left.

really good chap, as expected it was the backstory of the salesman but it was fast and straight to the point, well executed like always. I also really liked that the chapter started and ended with the exact same line ("This is so stupid.") but just in different contexts, it's neat

hi, long time no message but this is kr anon - i just saw that you recently finished all (?) of build and i wanted to say congrats!! 🎉 and gotta say i really love the gentoku fanart/redraw you posted lmao, that meme really is him to a t (esp. after ep. 20 and before his turning point in like ep. 40) 😭 ngl i did think you would enjoy his overall arc, but i didn't expect you'd be that much of a gentoku stan by the end hfkhjwrfhs good for you though!! (also remember when i brought up aa/build parallels or what aa characters, especially the canon toku fans, would think of build, and i felt like if not misora bc of the similarities they share (more on this another time, though i also think sento and his dad's relationship has shades of maya and mia's relationship with misty), maya would be a fan of [redacted]? yeah i was talking about gentoku lol) and maybe we'll be seeing some more build fanart/content from you soon, if you're up for it? 👀

sadly i don't have time rn to write/share my usual long responses to your commentary and stuff, though i actually started writing a reply to your answers from when i sent my last messages, back in march i think? 😅 i would have loved having more of episodic discussions/episode-by-episode breakdowns with you as you went along, but since you beat me to it by finishing the series on your own (which is totally understandable dw, esp. since i really didn't message you anything for the last several months), it won't be necessary anymore ig but i still want to eventually share that original reply i'd been writing so it won't feel wasted haha, and along with what i'd promised would be my overall review of everything i've seen so far, i'll do my best to send these messages to you by this weekend now 🫡 in the meantime, feel free to rant and ramble about build (like, ryusen truly is one brain chemistry-altering ship for the ages huh... makes me feel very 'go crazy go stupid' 😭) at me, even wrt the stuff i haven't seen yet bc i know the gist of them anyway, and i'll also be sharing some more links to build tumblr posts and tweets like before - though i see you've already started rbing more build fanart and edits (not sure if you based them on what i included in my original compilation though or if you've been combing through the build tumblr tags already?) so i'll have to make sure the ones i'll link rn aren't ones you've rbed already [2/?]

also when you say you think you've finished all of build, does that mean you've seen both hei gen final & forever + the specials/webseries + the build episodes of zi-o? or are you planning to only watch those at a later point, like the movies will be for after you've seen the other seasons they're crossing over with? but also no pressure if you just don't want to watch them rn for whatever reason, but just in case you do want to or you just want to keep the proper order in mind wrt at which point of the main show the specials or movies are situated in if you've seen all or most already (though i assume you've more or less checked the order from when you started watching the spin-offs after finishing the show): [3/?]

eps. 1-14 -> heisei generations final -> eps. 16-19 -> birth! kuma-televi!! vs. kr grease hyper battle dvd -> eps. 20-21 --> raising the hazard level with 7 best matches special & rogue miniseries -> eps. 22-41 -> kr prime rogue hyper battle dvd -> eps. 42-45 -> be the one movie -> eps. 46-49 -> final stage stageplay (though this was technically set during the actual finale, as you've seen) -> eps. 1-2 and eps. 1.5-2.5 of the succeeding season zi-o (since zi-o is basically an anniversary season celebrating 20 kr shows since 2000, thus basically being a giant crossover show like its spiritual predecessor decade and primarily consisting of arcs of like 2-3 episodes paying tribute to a certain season (sometimes actually featuring one or more actors from that season - not necessarily the actor for the mc though - and sometimes not if there are scheduling conflicts, etc.), and so is the 20th and final heisei kr show before zero-one marked the start of reiwa, though the timeline shenanigans here are so wonky and weird that you don't really have to consider these eps. canon if you want)

-> heisei generations forever (officially non-canon to the main timelines of both build and zi-o, though still a good enough homage to build's main story with a decent amount of ryusen) -> build new world: kr cross-z -> i heard the idol otaku is dating his fav special (basically just kazumi/misora nonsense from what i've heard, unfortunately) -> build new world: kr grease (i saw that you weren't keen on both new world movies as most build fans i know also weren't esp. bc of the het shenanigans (+ the weird evolt stuff that i've heard kinda feels like it's invalidating we already saw/learned in the main show, and it feels more like they just brought him back because they were milking his sheer popularity as a kr villain) that are apparently pretty typical of v-cine movies when compared to heavier gay coding in the main shows, sadly, so you can also take a page out of those other fans' book and not consider the nw movies canon or only cherrypicking the elements you like, but wrt the banjou stuff in cross-z specifically, i don't think him and yui are meant to be an unambiguously canon couple the way kazumi/misora and gentoku/sawa became in grease, as you can see a clear difference in how romantic both latter couples acted (even if i don't like both lmao, though i tolerate gentoku/sawa more than i do kazumi/misora simply bc i think g/s has funnier scenes than k/m, even with gentoku's unnecessary sexual proposition towards sawa in ep. 1 back when he was evil) vs. b/y, and also just the way banjou treated kasumi, his only 100% clearly canon girlfriend, vs. how he treated yui up to the end of the movie, and the girlfriend/date/best match comments in the movies seem to feel more like just jokes/trolling in hindsight (esp. since the b/y "date" at the end was literally just them selling stuff *sento* made, like something something sento is always somehow involved with banjou and his girlfriends, or 'girlfriend' in yui's case, so... lol. anyway), and also banjou appears to blatantly check out a shirtless killbas before they find out about him being the villain so ig the bi-coding was technically still going strong, plus the fact that yui just straight up disappears in grease which is supposed to be a direct sequel to cross-z and just isn't mentioned in any way (on which i have some bts info to spill btw, more on that in my next message) while sento and banjou continue to act like partners as usual, and in fact get paired up in a way that sets them alongside the pairing up of k/m and g/s in the same movie - so tl;dr: aside from the fact that we can just straight up ignore those movies, i don't think we have to worry about the yui stuff as a genuine invalidation of ryusen's romantic subtext-that's-practically-text, though it's still unfortunate they tried to pull this shit in the first place even if ultimately very half-assed and halfhearted, and you just kinda have to laugh at the audacity of doing all that *after* banjou made his little speech about sento being his hero, like you said)

-> kr jeanne and kr aguilera with girls remix (a revice spin-off included here on a technicality bc of sawa's presence, along with female characters from a few other kr seasons both in the heisei and reiwa eras alongside the titular female riders who i think i've told you before are the first major example of a lesbian-coded pairing in kr, though iirc they sadly also get hit with some plausible-deniability "they're like family/sisters" comments here though not really in the main show) -> kr outsiders (basically fanservice cash-grab slop from what i've been told that essentially is a suicide squad-esque project where various villains/evil riders from different seasons are assembled to battle a bigger bad guy, and evolt and misora are there in like a couple of episodes so 😔) [4/?]

as for the stuff ive watched, i finished the main eps first and then went for basically everything i could find that i knew had the build charas/story involved, so the only stuff from everything u mentioned that im missing are the 4 eps from zi-o, the revice spinoff, outsiders and the stageshows. i was thinking of leaving the crossover movies for later at first but then i also didnt wanna wait for if/when i watch ex-aid or zi-o so i just went for them (esp since u mentioned banjou chara development for one of them which i was Rlly curious about) and i enjoyed both, non-canon as they might be akfjdksf.. i think ill check out those zi-o eps but i probs wont watch the whole show (yet at least)

but yeah it rlly was a rollercoaster holy shit that entire final arc in the show was fucked up and evil?? in the best way possible??? i was crying literally the entire last three eps help ... the silly little rabbit w a death wish was too real...... i def saw what u meant by the end bit being weaker but honestly it didnt feel too bad to me, it probably wouldve been better executed if they had more eps to work w (which ik are strictly consistent for every season) + those actors that werent able to film, but i feel like for what they had to work with they did a rlly good job bc i was still hooked and Invested(tm)

also the rogue spinoff like i went in already liking gentokus chara a Lot after seeing the whole story so i was biased but i think they showed his desperation and spiral into insanity (? if it makes sense) rlly well there, it was def a lot more brutal but somehow i ended up liking the fight scenes in there more than the main story ones maybe bc they didnt have much of the cgi? either way it was a good insight into gentokus past/chara (and a little bit of takumis too who i always like seeing) and now i can Genuinely put him in the 'poor little meow meow who killed people' box so yay :) my silly shirt man i care him :)

then theres the new world movies which.....sigh......... Yeah............ those sure were movies ......... the comphet honestly didnt even bother me that much bc im so used to ignoring when writers pull shit like that (tho the whole banjou/yui thing did give me a fic idea in a way that i started outlining afkjdksgj) but the way they just undid the entire logic of the new world with the point of it being that its entire existence is only possible w evolt and the pandora box no longer existing is just. I think I posted abt this once before, but I like to watch supernatural when I'm high. when I get high I tend to overanalyze whatever I watch and go "THIS is the BEST THING ever made!" (I also do this with SpongeBob and Beavis and Butthead lmao)

Really? Jessi and Harry are just GONE? Became unwatchable shit.

Speaking of what if scenarios with the skrulls, do you know if there will definitely be a season 2 of what if where we might finally see Gamora's episode? I'm beyond glad she's not a skrull but I do hope for a tiny bit more content for her and I think What if would be the way to do it.

And since you posted about merch before do you know if there have been any updates or information released on Gamora getting more? I have mostly resigned myself to her never getting anything else but part of me is still not comfortable with this and I'm hurt they brought her back only to ignore her this badly. I know vol 3 should have done better but she was still there and had more of a role than some characters. They act like she didn't exist or was only in one scene. I think I remember seeing Taserface get a funko after vol 2 and he definitely had a smaller role than Gamora has in vol 3.

so it's been previously reported that what if was greenlit for a s2 and s3, and last year at sdcc marvel announced that we'd be getting what if s2 in "early 2023" (this announcement is still the pinned tweet on the what if twitter account, even), but it's kinda fallen to the wayside bc of disney/marvel re-evaluating their content output on disney+ this year. like you know how a bunch of streamers have just been randomly deleting shows and movies over the last couple months? the companies are trying to save money by reducing how much streaming content they're hosting, so i think that's what's been delaying what if s2. i wouldn't be surprised if s2 (and maybe even s3) is already completely finished and disney's just hoarding the files and biding their time, just to be fucking annoying, frankly

on the gamora front—yes, it's been confirmed since s1's release that there's an ep featuring her that was missing! the gamora we saw in the guardians of the multiverse was supposed to be in a tony-centric ep that had to be delayed due to covid:

that's likely part of why gamora still got what if merch in 2021, though i still maintain that if gamora being in what if of all things could warrant her getting merch, then she should've gotten merch for vol 3, 100%, straight fax no printer. like, there is no way that animated, non-mainline mcu, d+ series WHAT IF had more viewers who'd be interested in buying merch than a LITERAL THEATRICAL MAINLINE FILM ☠️ like...yo LMAO

i haven't personally seen any updates about gamora getting vol 3 merch on any of my social media feeds, but i've seen some of the funko collectors on reddit speculating abt another wave of vol 3 figures that she could be part of or something. but now that we're nearing 2 months post-vol 3, i honestly don't have high hopes for any new merch featuring her to come out :/// esp with marvel now seeming to have shifted focus to secret invasion (which just started releasing on d+ today), i'm not rly expecting any new anything in general on the gotg/vol 3 front tbh

i saw a tweet like "what if in the teaser pat's asking for a one last kiss when they break up" and it made me feel so ..?.. i really don't think that patpran breaking up would be a good storyline after all the scenes of them learning how to be stronger and trust each other. what was all that for? they faced friends, families and their own fears just to break up???????!?!*!*@(@ even when they were still "enemies" they respected and relied on each other... the episodes have shown that they are mature and aware that they have nothing to do with their parent's fight so 🤷 but pran still doesn't know about his mom's side of the story 😓 i am afraid that they might use this to provoke a conflict after he finds out... BUT I TRUST HIM (sorry for my english and if this is too messy)

first of all lovely anon your english is great and being multilingual is impressive enough in itself :))

and as for your ask, let me say this plain sand simple. any and all discussions of a possible patpran break up have only started bc we are aware of the ep 11 curse. bls have always followed this formula and therefore we are looking for something angsty that could happen. but what has p'aof taught us for this entire show?? that tropes are there to be subverted. thats why we got the angst and the parents story and the breakdown in ep 10, not ep 11. thats why countless other things have happened in the show that overtly subvert the established tropes of the drama. so patpran break up discussions should not be had just bc we are trying to find an angsty thing that could happen to uphold the ep 11 curse. what we should be doing is following the narrative of the story we have so far, looking back at the series as a whole and what it has to say, its trends and messages in order to predict what ep 11 might hold.

and all that you've said is exactly right. a patpran break up makes no narrative sense. they have shown time and time again that when faced with obstacles they will chose to stay together, they will stand as a joint front in solidarity. and they have come to far and grown too much to let it become nothing. bc back in earlier eps, i too wondered 'is pran the kind of person that would fight for his relationship with pat? does he have that strength?'. but i've been given my answer. he does. he stood with him when their friends found out, not just in the sense that they didnt break up. bc not only did he reject pat's proposal to say they broke up, literally in that moment chose him, but what was louder to me is that he refused to hide or let wai's hostility scare him out of his relationship. he was still there, out in the open, being with pat, flirting with him, playing with him, loving him, right in front of wai's face. thats more than strength, thats kind of rebellious.

and this almost rebellious side of pran has been further validated to me in ep 10, in the way he spoke to his mother. he could've cowered, could've felt bad and let that affect him, could've rejected any association with pat, or could've admitted to it but said he would end it for her. but he didn't. and he didn't just stay resolute in his devotion to pat, but he called her out. and the things he said to her were above the situation with pat. they're things he would've wanted to say to her even if he never loved pat, even if there was nothing between them. she was still controlling, still pressuring, still manipulative. she still shouldered him with all her rage and desire for revenge and that isn't fair in any situation.

its that that makes me believe pat and pran will not break up. bc its almost like he's woken up now. he's reached the surface, he's ripped the band aid off. he's finally recognised all the pain he feels and he's said no more. and i don't think it would make any narrative sense for him to go back on that. it wouldn't make sense for him to crawl back to his mother on his hands and knees begging for forgiveness when he knows he's not the one that needs forgiving. even when he finds out the truth of the situation, its not enough to change anything. it might make him feel bad for some things he said and for thinking so ill of her, but it doesn't change the fact that the way she handled things hurt him, and i think pran is emotionally mature enough to see that. he always have been, but now he has the strength to say he deserves more than the treatment he's been given.

and i'm not talking a lot about pat here bc there's nothing that will change what his father did. yeah, we can become more understanding of the pressure he was under, but that will never condone his actions, and therefore pat wont see a reason to seek his approval anymore. the image of his father as a role model is well and truly broken and i dont think anything will fix that.

and finally, what i would really like for ep 11 and 12, just at some point, is for them to further subvert all the tropes of classic bl endings by just having the characters have hard but honest conversation. miscommunication is too commonly depended on to create drama, so i'd love for this show to display how through communication we can slowly rebuild relationships, we can get to a better place, we can start to make up for the mistakes that miscommunication caused. bad buddy has always been about spreading good, positive messages about how to deal with very human flaws and the ways they can hurt others, so i'd hope they end by reaffirming that notion.

(but then again, we've learnt not to trust previews, so maybe ep 11 isn't gonna be all fun in the sun. and even though i dont think that kiss is a goodbye kiss, not at all, nor do i think they'll be interrupted, that doesn't mean some kind of chaos cant go down)

Victor Creel Theories

(also includes ST movie DNA series: Star Wars)

Victor Creel is described as "a disturbed and intimidating man who is imprisoned in a psychiatric hospital for a gruesome murder in the 1950s." We know he will be institutionalized at Penthurst mental hospital, where Peter Ballard works, based on leaked on set pics.

There a few possibilities regarding his character:

He could be a former test subject with some kind of powers and a connection to the upside down (which would also follow the even/odd season pattern of a main character being directly involved with the upside down creatures) I think it's highly likely that Victor Creel will be involved with the mystery/danger in Hawkins in some way, and have a connection to the upside down. He could also be disturbed on top of this, and he could be involved in Eleven's storyline this season.

That he is not a test subject and is ONLY mentally disturbed.

He may be related to one of the already established characters. Most likely Joyce, and maybe Terry but it's a stretch.

Before I go any further into that last possibility, I just want to preface that this idea of an "evil father/grandfather with powers" could be a purposeful Star Wars parallel. The Duffer brothers have already paralleled and used Star Wars references a few times in the show:

In Star Wars, Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father, and Palpatine is Rey's grandfather (aka the literal worst guy in the universe). A common theme in ST is abusive/bad fathers - that post here. Interesting...

Palpatine is also Anakin Skywalker's father, so Luke and Leia are both the grandkids of Palpatine as well as Rey is, but it's unclear if they are just force midichlorian related or actually dna related as well but I won't get into that here!

Luke and Rey are both force sensitive (have powers), so are Darth Vader and Palpatine; their descendants (kid/grandkid) have powers, and so do they (father/grandfather) The descendants use their powers for good, while the ancestors use their power for evil. Who has powers in ST? Eleven and Will - and they both already have this idea of abusive/bad/evil fathers: Will has an abusive father Lonnie, and Eleven has an abusive father figure Dr. Brenner "Papa".

So... Victor Creel being the evil/bad grandfather to either Eleven or Will and the evil/bad father to Joyce or Terry, would make a FULL Star Wars parallel to people who are morally good and have powers (Will and El - Luke and Rey), discovering they are the descendant of an evil male figure who also has powers (Victor Creel - Darth Vader and Palpatine)

If Victor Creel turns out to be the father of anyone in the show my bets are it's either Joyce Byers or maybeee Terry Ives.

If he was a test subject, its likely he went "crazy" with some of his powers and the government couldn't cover it up so they declare him mentally insane to get him committed, and he probably goes insane being locked away as well. Personally, I think he may be 001 or an early test subject, when they were still working out the kinks of the program, and I think he does have a big connection to the upside down.

The Duffer Brother's on s4: "In Hawkins a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything"....

Now let's get into the possibilities for Creel's storyline/who he could be related to (split into 3 parts).

Part 1: Creel could be Joyce's father

Based on Victor Creel's description as "disturbed" and that he is "in a psychiatric hospital", it could connect him to Joyce's bloodline.

There are several comments in the show hinting to this idea of mental instability in Joyce's family:

s1 ep.5: When Lonnie comes to visit in s1 after Will goes missing, Joyce says to Lonnie "No, don't look at me like that, like how everyone is looking at me, like I'm out of my damn mind" He responds saying "I think you need to consider the possibility that this is all in your head. Remember your Aunt Darlene?" Joyce quickly replies, "No, this is not that."

That conversation, although quick, is very telling. Lonnie is implying that Joyce had an aunt who was mentally unstable - and Joyce clearly knows about her aunt being unstable because she responds to his comment by saying what's she's experiencing is not that (the mental instability of her aunt)

s2 ep.2: Joyce says to Bob, "this is not a normal family", when he suggest moving out of Hawkins.

I used to think Joyce was always was referring to the whole 'my son got stuck in an alternate dimension with supernatural monsters and is now traumatized, and we were sworn to secrecy by the government' thing but maybe she is also referring to her biological family.

s1 ep.2: When they are searching for Will, one of the other police officers, says "Joyce is one step from the edge" and the other officer responds "She has been several steps for quite a while now".

If Joyce is related to Victor Creel biologically, and he did also happen to be a test subject, has powers, or has some other relation to the upside down, this could possibly have contributed to whatever kind of abilities Will has, because he would be a descendant of Creel. But Joyce does not seem to have any powers and neither does Jonathan. If they were related to Creel, it's odd that they both didn't get powers, but Will did. I've always thought Will was born with his powers, like El.

We know almost nothing about Joyce's past, it's never discussed in the slightest in the show, which I feel like is purposeful. We don't know Joyce's maiden name; she doesn't change it back after she and Lonnie divorce. Maybe the Duffers are saving Joyce's backstory for s4 (and possibly s5), like I think they are doing with Will and El's connection. Will, El, Hopper, and Joyce were pictured in a series of 4 tweets posted by the stranger writers, hinting to the main 4 storylines for season 4. My analyzation of this tweet here.

I think it's possible that Joyce's storyline this season could also have to do with her past- not just her searching for Hopper- but also more personal information about her. Perhaps we will see flashbacks of younger Joyce and maybe learn about her biological relatives.

Noah also said this would be the darkest season for Will, so this idea of being the grandkid of someone evil or disturbed could fit into that.

Part 2: Creel could be Terry's father/Eleven's grandfather

The only other person I could see potentially having a biological; relation to Victor Creel could be Terry Ives and Eleven, (because it would complete the Star Wars parallel mentioned earlier) but it's a stretch for several reasons, the main one being that Terry and Becky's father Bill Ives, died in a car crash (year unknown).

So for Victor Creel to be Terry's father that either has to be:

Her adoptive father OR

Her mother cheated and led Mr. Ives to believe Terry was his kid but her father is really Victor Creel, and Becky is actually Bill Ives son (which would explain why Becky has no powers)

Right of the bat it's interesting Terry's father's name is Bill. Bill is a nickname for William (Will Byers full name is William), and Billy's a nickname also for William... Hmmm....

Immediately after El is born, Terry is adamant that Brenner stole her child to use as a weapon to fight the commies BECAUSE SHE HAD SPECIAL ABILITIES - and she's completely right about everything. How does Terry know El had powers immediately after she was born? Because she knows she has developed some kind of special abilities from the experiments as well. When El goes to visit her mother in s2, THE LIGHTS FLICKER, just like they do when the upside down is near, but it's not Eleven controlling it. Her Aunt Becky says it's just the wiring, and Eleven responds: "IT'S MAMA. She wants to talk." And then we see Terry's NOSE BLEED, just like El's does when she uses her powers.

Quick side note about El's biological father is Andrew Rich: (It's revealed in the canon novel Suspicious Minds that Andrew Rich is El's father) He was a college student who got expelled from school due to protesting the Nixon address, making him eligible to be drafted in the Vietnam war, and he died in battle. Terry was involved in the Project MKUltra experiments at Hawkins National Laboratory in College, under the direction of Dr. Martin Brenner, but didn't know she was pregnant at the time. Andrew never even knew Terry was pregnant, meaning she was extremely early on in her pregancy at the time he was sent away, not even Terry was aware yet. It's also stated in this book that BRENNER HAD A HAND IN GETTING ANDREW EXPELLED SO HE COULD SEND ANDREW AWAY. The novel states that Brenner has Andrew drafted because he wants to SCARE Terry, to show her how much power he has over her life. There's definitely some history between Terry and Brenner that we don't know about yet.

If Victor Creel is in fact Joyce's father it's interesting that the powers seem to have skipped a generation with Joyce, and also one kid with the Byers, but if Victor Creel is Terry's father, no generations were skipped in passing down powers. ANYWAYS, this is all just theories and speculation since we have no actual concrete reasons to believe he will be related to Joyce or Terry.

Part 3: The possibility that Creel could be involved in Eleven's storyline this season does not rely on them being biologically related.

**One of the filming locations for this season is the Claremont House, which is RUMORED to be Creel's house and also "Vecna's lair" the new monster for s4 (unconfirmed) This is the house the Hawkins group goes into in the ST4 sneak peek, where they see the grandfather clock striking midnight. If that's true, there's a connection between Creel and the upside down and having powers, which could connect Creel to Eleven. The Duffers: "In Hawkins a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything". This thing "that connects everything", could be Creel's storyline (his possible connection to the lab/upside down/person in the show), because Creel's storyline also spans all the way back to the 1950's and before that, so there's our "long buried" part most likely.

Robert Englund recently revealed in *an interview* that his character Victor Creel gouges his eyes out, making him unable to see. Englund also mentions what it's like working with Millie Bobby Brown and talks about the first time her met her, he doesn't mention any other cast members in detail like he does Millie.

He's clearly working closely with Millie's character Eleven.

But why? I think Creel could be involved with Eleven getting her powers back, and her reliving her past. Once the government baddies realize El has no powers, they're gonna want them back. If Creel was in fact a test subject, maybe there is some kind of connection between them, Such as Eleven revisiting what happened to her in her past and how that could relate to her getting her powers back.

Another thought I had was that perhaps the gruesome murder he committed is somehow related to something that ends up impacting in Eleven's life.

Whatever Victor Creel's storyline is, it will be an important one, and it will carry somewhat into s5, since he will be a returning character. He is not signed as a series regular, but as a recurring character, which means we don't really know to what capacity he will be in s5. It could be flashbacks mostly, or he could have just as big or small of a role.

That detail about eyes being gouged out reminds me of fear street 1666 when the townsmen who was sacrificed to the devil becomes possessed and gouges the kids eyes out. Leigh Janick, director of fear street, is married to Ross Duffer. They both direct and make horror/sci-fi themed series about kids in a small town set in the 80's, who fight supernatural evil with a heavy undertone of queer themes, that are even filmed in a lot of the same locations (the mall, the town streets, etc.) I'm not saying it's the same thing, it definitely won't be. But there's so many similarities between ST and Fear Street, I thought I would mention this as another.

a/n: as you can see by the title, there are some implications that you fit into kenma’s (slightly oversized) hoodie in this chapter. it’s not really a warning, i just felt like i should add it :P

you frowned at the tweet on your phone screen.

kenma canceled his stream. because of the storm, or because of you?

you looked up, already forming some sort of inconspicuous way to ask him, when you realize no one was there. the place the streamer had been sitting mere seconds ago was empty.

you didn't even hear him leave.

you cautiously brought yourself up to your feet. "kenma?" vivid white lightning illuminated the room for a split second, an ominous boom of window-rattling thunder following seconds after. an unsettling feeling washed over you. "kenma..." you said again, more cautiously.

"y/n?"

a sigh escaped your lips as kenma poked his head back into the room. "i didn't even notice you left," you said sheepishly.

kenma's lips curved into a light smile. quickly, his gaze dropped to a bundle in his hands. you followed his gaze, frowning. clothes? when you made eye contact with him again, there was the faintest hint of pink on his cheeks. "i brought you a hoodie," kenma mumbled. "'cause it gets cold."

your heart skipped. a hoodie? "oh. um, thanks."

he entered the room and awkwardly handed you a dark grey hoodie with a small logo on it. "Bouncing Ball," you murmured. "you have your own merch?"

"huh? oh, yeah." kenma's voice sounded meek (though, it always did). "is that weird or something?"

"no, not at all!" you smiled down at the grey hoodie, running your thumbs over the downy fabric. "it's soft."

you looked up and met kenma's gaze. he gave you a small smile, a little wider this time, sending the subtlest of flutters through your heart. "thanks," kenma said.

"but he does have a crush on you. the question is, do you?" you furrowed your eyebrows as kuroo’s text came to mind.

do you?

when someone's laugh makes your heart soar, or when someone's smile makes you want to cover the flustered smile on your own face, that means you like them, right?

so what if you did like him? what happens after that?

the blinding flicker of lightning and another deafening boom of thunder startled you out of your thoughts. "do you want to continue playing?" kenma asked, holding his switch.

the canceled stream. you nodded and reached for the switch sitting a little ways away from you, your mind churning. do you ask him outright? lead up to it?

"uhm, y/n?"

you blinked and turned your sheepish gaze on kenma. "sorry, i was just thinking."

"oh." a slightly uncomfortable veil of silence hung between the two of you. you mustered the last of your courage and decided to spit the question outright.

unfortunately, kenma also chose that second to speak.

"why'd you cancel the stream?" you asked as kenma said "i'm sorry that this turned out so bad" at the same time.

kenma's eyes widened and he immediately looked down at his switch. "i'm sorry," he mumbled. "go fir-"

"what do you mean, this turned out bad?" you asked, your voice incredulous. "this has been amazing!"

the sky, ironically, seems to agree, a bolt of lightning and the boom of thunder following seconds after the words left your mouth.

"but the rain," kenma mumbled. he glanced over to where punchy and ankha huddled under the couch, hiding from the storm, "and punchy escaped and we wasted a lot of time trying to find him."

"that's fine," you laughed. "that was fun!"

"still..." kenma sighed. he fiddled with the buttons on his switch for a second before looking up at you. "now what were you going to say?"

"oh." you laughed nervously. "i was just curious, you know, but i saw you canceled your stream."

kenma shrugged. "i don't want to stream with you still here, isn't that rude? plus, the storm could mess with the... y'know, connection and... stuff."

"oh." your gaze flickered from the hoodie to him. "i guess i just feel guilty that i took time away from the stream."

kenma gave you the faintest of smiles. "it's no big deal." your vision is interrupted by another flash of lightning and crash of thunder, causing ankha to meowl in fear. "we should bring them to the studio," kenma mused. "there's no windows and it's pretty cut off from outside noise as well."

you tried your best to give him what you could call an indifferent shrug, but the thought of seeing his studio was sending your heart into hysterics.

it didn't take long to get settled in the surprisingly spacious room. punchy and ankha were considerably more relaxed, even brushing your leg from time to time as they prowled around the room. you and kenma were collapsed in beanbag chairs (kenma didn't seem like he was open to conversation about why he had them) leaning over to check the other's screen as you played. you felt your breath catch every time kenma's head came inches away from yours as he bent over to observe your screen, and kuroo's daunting question would creep back into your mind, bringing a wave of anxiety that you somehow managed to quell. "worry about that later," you told yourself. "focus on this moment."

the lack of windows—or maybe the sheer fact that you were enjoying yourself—must have made it easy to lose track of time because it only seemed like minutes had passed when you saw the "2:16 AM" plastered on your phone screen.

"i'm sorry for keeping you up for so long," kenma apologized meekly as he led you to one of the guest bedrooms. "i'm a bad host."

"you shouldn’t be so quick to bring yourself down" you comment as you walk into the open bedroom. "this was great. you're really fun to hang out with, kenma."

it wasn't a lie. in fact, it was extremely far from one. you told yourself it was the lack of windows that caused you to lose track of time, but maybe it was because of how comfortable you felt with him. no matter how much your blood roared in your ears whenever he leaned in closer, no matter how much your heart would burst when you'd see a rare smile or a small chuckle. you felt content with him. you might even go as far as to say that you felt at home with him. everything he did just flooded your veins with a feeling of calm.

you wrinkled your nose. oikawa would get a kick out of that.

the light smile that rarely showed up on kenma's face made its appearance. "i’m glad to hear that. well, uh, good night. there should be blankets there and stuff but if you need anything my room is at the end of the hallway."

you nodded. "good night!"

kenma gave you a small wave before heading down the hallway. you slowly clicked the door shut and headed over to the bed, your eyes floating to the window. faint moonlight filtered in through the half-shuttered blinds, faintly distorted by the raindrops that still lingered on the window after the storm.

you smiled. you didn't even realize the storm stopped.

because of that storm, you spent almost an entire day playing animal crossing and talking with kenma, the streamer you weren't exactly sure if you had a crush on. because of that storm, you were able to meet his cats, see his gaming setup, get one of his hoodies, and play on his switch. because of that storm, you were able to see the real kenma, instead of the one you saw behind a computer screen.

the urge to check your phone suddenly overtook your mind. your hands floated to your back pocket, freezing when you felt soft fabric instead of denim.

that's right, you had put the hood of kenma's hoodie over your head while you were gaming together. you removed the sweatshirt, your fingers tracing over the white imprinted logo on the front. slowly you hugged it to your chest, breathing in the faint smell of cat fur and laundry detergent, bleach powder and newly bought electronics. you give in to the urge and take off the blouse you'd been wearing, replacing it with the slightly oversized hoodie. the sleeves flowed a bit past your wrists and the hem of the sweatshirt hung below your waist, but it was comfortable.

you took off your stiff jeans and climbed into the bed, falling asleep with kenma's scent filling your nose and his small smile engraved in your memory.

One day we'll be posting about how hard it was to be a destiel shipper when then the (last episodes especially) were airing because Misha would say Cas was dead in 15x18 and then there's a video from a con where he completely told us what happened in 15x18 but we didn't believe him when he told us and not long after saying that he said they all lived happily ever after and you'd start seeing hints of what happened in 15x18 in his old tweets but its like "what it the truth" meanwhile CW pr is trying to convince us Misha's not in the last ep and we'd have people completely analyzing everything mishas done or said in the last year and having evidence about why he and the cw pr team are definitely lying. Then Misha'd be at the con after practically refusing to say "that was my last scene in the series." Then, because we just realized how long the writers have been working on this and lying to us, we couldn't get a grip on reality. And then the CW pr team would have someone post something about that being Cas' last episode and the "ants" (the people who didn't know whether to believe Misha was in the last ep or not) would go scattering in a panic. The constant emotional torment is why we have things like... Why lamp... and Moth!Dean.

oh ro, here we go ig

so idk how much context you have so for our own sake, let's go back to the beginning of the end lol. jensen ackles, playing dean, said a few times even before the last episode was shown that he had to be convinced because he didn't really like the ending for his character. after it aired, jensen never acknowledged it again, but made a few references to 15x18. jared paladecki on the other end was thrilled about the ending, saying it was his favourite ep. which. yeah understandable bc it's like the first ep since the first few seasons that is centred around his character, sam. but also dude the show hasn't been about sam in a long long time. anyway here we begin to see some differences between the two actors. people laughed around about the two falling out.

then jared announced he was rebooting the texas ranger thing, walker, with the cw and. how to put it in a nice way. it appeals more to republicans? the dude saw ice put kids in a cage and went "what about the ice agent?" which. yeah. i know he talked about inviting jensen on that project and jensen refusing. nevertheless jared was still talking about letting him direct an ep or something. ngl, i had completely forgotten about walker.

in the meantime, jensen and his wife danneel bought the rights to spn and built his own company, chaos machine production (what a fitting name). if he had to say something about spn, he never talked about anything after 15x18, and basically disappeared from social media, only to post a selfie every two months so people knew he was still alive. he also got casted in the boys, a superhero series.

and today, the bomb dropped: jensen, danneel, and robbie thompson (the spn writer who actually knows how to write women and who wrote the destiel confession and tried to include other queer characters and to do a spin-off with the ladies that got refused) are discussing about the script for a spn prequel about the winchester parents, john and mary, and that it would be narrated by dean. (now i have my own opinion concerning the parents' story and it was already explored in spn itself, so i'm not sure where the fuck do they want to go?)

jared found out through twitter and was not very happy about it. i'm gonna link posts about the tweets he posted. he did not take it very well that he and his character weren't involved, and that jensen did not even tell him about it. some people highlight that nowadays you cannot talk about what you are doing for fear to spoil or have your project spoiled, so it would be reasonable for jensen not to say anything about it. and it was just. a script. there's no pilot, they are only talking about the script rn.

so jared had his little public meltdown on twitter, jensen stayed silent, danneel did not respond to jared but she did reply to people on instagram, and robbie thompson retweeted one of his old tweets saying "i <3 spn family" after jared literally told him "et tu brute." misha collins, who played cas my beloved, and old cast members joked about returning in that prequel (as their characters, angels and a nearly immortal witch, have existed before sam's and dean's births. also technically speaking dean and cas have time-travelled twice to that time already in the series. i do not remember about sam but if he did it in his parents' timeline it was only once? i'm not even sure? but please do not make me rewatch just for that)

in conclusion jared's pr team has had work to do, twitter is a PUBLIC plateform and one should not go there to pick bones with one's former staff and co-star, and jensen is silent. also for once the whole fandom is united to say: what the fucking hell is that idea jensen. not for the same reasons but hey. beggars can't be choosers etc. my friend who watched spn too plans to watch the prequel in the sole goal that it lasts longer than walker. i just want to be free and for spn to end. but spn looks like it's entering its 17th season </3

Same anon about the tags, sorry I didn't meant to imply that snb will change storylines altogher (especially this late as you say ^^') what I said was in line with anime series changing tone, saving/killing characters (pmmm), or just not really knowing where they're going until mid-way of airing (klk) etc. and something that I've felt in VS was that the tone/focus of the story changed in between episodes too much (something that many people seen to have niticed too), which *could*... (1/2)

I see what you mean, which reminds me: just last week an animator for vs said they just *finished* wrapping things up, which is surprising? if he meant they actually did finish the actual last ep, tho he could mean anything by it honestly ^^; dir sato did tweet about doing re-recording of certain eps when just a month before, he actually tweeted about *wrapping things up*. well.

snb:vs so far already has 3 advance viewing events, 1) ep1-4, 2) re-viewing of ep 1-14 and adv 15, 3) ep18-19. for the first one, it was at least two months before airing, but for the rest it was maybe only 2-3 weeks before actual airdate. I understand in the west advanced viewing is usually used to gauge the viewers’ reaction and a chance to fix what felt lacking, but for snb:vs case, the viewing seems to be only used for promotion and nothing else lulz since from some reports, there did seem to be nothing that changed between pre-viewed eps and actual aired eps.

for the story itself, re: change of tone/focus of the story in vs, I was a bit prepared for this since the mappa guy and director sato did say the first cour of vs would be lead by azazel, implying after that the focus character would change. they also said that the show would be darker compared to first cour.

I was prepared for a change of tone, but i was at all not prepared for a change of *show*.

entering 2nd cour, it was not only the tone, it’s everything; the pacing, the tone/focus, the characterization that felt out of place and couldn’t keep up with the change, just - everything. according to the creator, the show was supposed to be darker, but if you watched nina’s scenes, who was supposed to lead the show in this cour, and just took her reactions at face value, it felt even more humorous and lighthearted than the first cour.

1st cour w/ azazel as lead: doom and gloom fantasy,

2nd cour w/ nina as lead: happy doki doki love story

the demons struggle and all the important issues took a backseat to nina’s love story, and while i want to believe the writer really meant nina as an unreliable narrator who would set things right in the end, her ignorance and self-centric attitude can’t be anything but genuinely meant at this point.

tl;dr

idk if it’s really poor planning and/or miscommunication among staff, but one thing is clear: there’s a discrepancy between what the staff *thought* they were showing in the show, and what actually got shown to viewers.

I don't mind fans calling Yoi revolutionary since shows that hit big get called revolutionary by their fans, but it bothers me when people call it fujobait. Madoka is called a magical girl anime for males tho the author said he didn't have a target audience, it was a show for everyone. Yoi has all the usuals of a Yamamoto anime: the eros story, nudity, sexiness, pole dancing, etc. IMO, Yoi is for female figure skating fans rather than fujoshi since they focus more on skating than anything else.

Does it though anon? Personally, I don’t think it does. I’m a female figure skating fan and YOI’s coverage of skating has been disappointing. The animation budget seems to have gone to Viktor/Yuuri scenes rather than the skating scenes, meaning the competitions have been tedious to watch what with their mediocre animation making all the routines seem the same. Other sports animes like Haikyuu, Cross Game, Kuroko no Basket, Slam Dunk, Hajime no Ippon spend their budget making sure the sports scenes look good so as to engage the viewers. The only skating scenes that look nice in yoi are the viktor/yuuri stay with me in the first and last episodes and again, the reason for that seems to be more for viktor/yuuri than for skating. You can argue about budget but in that case the staff should’ve been smart about it instead of biting off more than they could chew.

The story also suffers narratively, because although Kubo/Yamamoto have tried to fit in 4 min backstories for the other competitors, they’re not really integral to the story and don’t do anything to raise the tension of the competition. YOI never makes it quite clear why skaters get the scores they do, you’re just supposed to accept it because “technicals? Yuuri skated with more love?? So and so skated with more artistry??” But like how are we supposed to know when their routines all seem the same and we never go into the details? Most of the time the results just seem to be whatever the creators need to move the story along. As a figure skating fan I was looking forward to them explaining the technical elements (the differences between jumps, spins, step sequences, program requirements, etc) but they never really did. Were they required? No, but again it would’ve helped viewers to follow along with the competition if they had some couch figure internally commenting on the different programs (like other sports animes do).

Of course, I’m only one person with only my own opinion, and you’re entitled to your own but I just wanted to explain why I find the figure skating in this anime disappointing. In addition, certain things the staff have done, such as incorporate choreography from Virtue/Moir into the ice dance routine in ep 12 without giving credit, and Kubo’s inappropriate tweets regarding male skaters, have turned me off yoi overall. it’s possible to enjoy a piece of work on its own while acknowledging the creator’s faults, but so much of yoi fandom behavior is worshipping the creators and I’m just not about that…

Pushing that aside for now, I’d say that the anime was targeted towards fujoshis and female skating fans. Because why only aim for one? But yoi definitely derives a lot from BL works (http://saotome-michi.tumblr.com/post/155242878489/is-yoi-bl-though-like-what-is-bl-even-and-when)and women who enjoy BL works definitely make up most of the fandom so… saying YOI is for fujoshis really isn’t wrong? I can understand why ppl get bothered by “fujobait” since it’s usually used as a derogatory term but to me it’s more of a marketing thing. Like, do you think the sparkling pretty men and shiny lip gloss moments are intended for the enjoyment of gay/bi Japanese men? Hell no, it’s for the women who enjoy seeing that kind of stuff.

As for this being a Yamamoto Sayo anime, you’re right that Michiko to Hatchin and The Woman known as Mine Fujiko both featured sexual elements, nudity, etc. and tbh I’ll have to do some more analyzing to get to the heart of why YOI’s sexual elements bother me and those two show’s don’t. But I think it has to do with the sexual/seductive elements in MtoH and Fujiko not coming across as fanservice. Because those elements fit their setting - Michiko to Hatchin takes place in the seedy parts of a fictional country based on brazil. Mine Fujiko hops around the world as a criminal who uses her attractiveness to achieve her goals. Their sexual elements had a purpose in establishing setting or character, and weren’t heavily focused on in a way that made it clear they were for the audience’s enjoyment. On the other hand, the sexual elements in YOI aren’t necessary and are clearly intended to stir the target audience up.

Also if we’re going to talk about Yamamoto then we also have to talk about Kubo. Most ppl only know about her manga Moteki, but she drew several doujinshi in the late 90s involving RL Japanese soccer players (http://www.mandarake.co.jp/information/2009/01/23/21sby05/index.html). There’s nothing wrong about that in itself, but it suggests Kubo is familiar with the BL audience and knows what she’s doing when she writes Viktor/Yuuri enacting traditionally romantic gestures.

Finally it’s funny that you mention Madoka. I don’t know if you’re aware of this anon, but this is something that happened maybe two years ago. The blog fandomsandfeminism posted a presentation they’d made called “Anime and Feminism 101”, which went into what was feminist and not in anime. Because of course a non-Japanese person unfamiliar with Japanese culture thought that they could be an authority on this. Tumblr user hisanakagami, a Japanese trans woman, commented on this post and basically tore it apart. You can read her arguments here (http://cancerously.tumblr.com/post/77750279190/hisanakagami-hisanakagami). hisanakagami later got so much hate for her comments that she ended up leaving tumblr. (A downright shame and an example of how western fandom trying to use anime in their ideas of social justice can turn out fucked up).

One of the things hisanakagami stated was how the magical girl trope was a major contributing factor to the popularization of moe. She touches a bit on how Madoka can hardly be considered a “feminist” series when you look at the historical context and it’s position within the market.

I understand anon that you are not calling Madoka feminist. I am not trying to put words into your mouth. What I’m trying to get at is that your disagreement on Madoka being an anime for males disregards the things hisanakagami talks about and it’s a similar situation with your stance on yoi. Can Madoka and YOI appeal to wider audiences? Yes, but the cultural history behind their tropes/etc and the markets they tap into, are what make this whole “___ is progressive” argument over-simplistic and frankly baffling.

One last note before I sign off on this ridiculously long reply - all popular shows might get called revolutionary, but yoi is probably the one where we get bashed on the head with that word over and over again. Just try googling “yuri on ice revolutionary”.
