[22 April, Age 850. Toki Toki City.]
Toki Toki City was a special place. Constructed outside of the flow of normal time, it served as the stronghold of the Supreme Kai of Time and her most trusted allies, the Time Patrol. Despite the divine mission of the Time Patrol, the city still functioned much like any other population center, and featured many of the same mundane infrastructure and services. There were a variety of dining facilities, including a cafeteria, which normally served breakfast to the Time Patrol every morning. But this time, the cafeteria had been taken over for a private occasion, as two Patrollers sought to celebrate their recent victory.
"How much longer is this gonna take?"
"Quit whining, Kakarot," Luffa said. "We're not doing this half-assed. I don't want you making excuses about stomach pangs when I beat you."
The man sitting at the counter grinned. "Heh. You won't have to worry about that. I just don't see why you're takin' so long to fix breakfast. We could grab something out of the fridge and bring it with us."
Luffa started chopping leeks with a calm precision that belied her expression. "This is special, Kakarot. You really don't get it, then? They told me you were brought up by aliens--Earthlings like Trunks' mother--but you really don't remember our people at all, do you?"
He crossed his muscular arms and rolled his eyes thoughtfully, as though looking up to his brain to locate an answer. "I only know you keep callin' me 'Kakarot', just like Vegeta always does. Every Saiyan I meet tells me that's my real name, but as far as I'm concerned, my name's always been Son Goku."
Luffa gave him a concerned look as she dumped the leeks into a bowl. "You don't mind, do you?" she asked. "I mean, I don't want to get off on the wrong foot here. I meant no disrespect."
"Nah, it's fine," Goku shrugged. "But it sure is weird havin' people call you two names."
"I… I didn't realize you never understood that," Luffa said. "Your mother named you 'Kakarot'. At least, I assume she did. Believe it or not, you wouldn't be the only Saiyan to grow up among aliens, or to take an alien name. But among our own kind, we Saiyans address each other by our birth names, to honor the Saiyans who gave them to us. I suppose you never knew your Saiyan name, so you wouldn't understand, but it means a lot to us. It's a sign of respect. Even if we were bitter enemies, I'd still do you the honor of acknowledging you as a fellow Saiyan."
Goku scratched his chin. "Well I'll be," he said.
Luffa switched to a crate of eggs and began cracking them expertly on the side of a large beaker. "Besides," she added, "I don't get to hang out with a lot of pure-blooded Saiyans. I… like using the name. It's less lonely that way, if that makes any sense."
"Yeah, it does," Goku said. He was still upbeat and carefree, but there was something somber about his tone. "When my grandpa died--the man who raised me on Earth, I mean--I kept his Dragon Ball. I started calling it 'grandpa', like he was in there somehow. It just made me feel better. I still call it 'grandpa' sometimes, even though I know it's not really him."
Luffa nearly asked how his adoptive grandfather died, but suddenly decided she didn't want to know. Saiyan children were a handful, even for Saiyan parents. And the Earth had a very large moon with a very frequent orbital period. Perhaps the old Earthman had simply died peacefully in his sleep, perhaps not.
"Well, Kakarot," Luffa said, "It's customary for two Saiyans to share a meal before a friendly contest. Sure, we could grab some field rations or slap some flour in water and call it done, but I want to savor this occasion, and I'm betting you've never had any Saiyan cooking before."
"I guess not," Goku said. "Is there something special to it?"
Luffa paused just long enough to point her knife at herself. "Just me, really. The original Saiyan homeworld was a distant legend even in my day. Our ancestors wandered the universe, sometimes establishing new home planets, but mostly roaming the stars in search of adventure. So the ingredients vary with the circumstances. It's more about resourcefulness, cobbbling together a good meal with whatever you have on hand. Of course, Toki Toki City has a really impressive pantry, so I can do pretty much anything I want. Potatoes, sausage, ketchup, they really know how to live on Earth."
"Well whatever you've got going on over there, it sure smells good," Goku said. "I used to cook fish when I lived alone, but Chi-Chi said I wasn't allowed in the kitchen anymore after I caused that fire."
"Hah. Typical," Luffa scoffed. "I've never met a Saiyan man who wasn't all thumbs over a stovetop. Oh, they like to brag about how good they are with their hands, but it never seems to pan out where it counts, if you know what I mean."
Goku laughed. "I know. One time Chi-Chi got this bookshelf for Gohan's room, and I tried to put it together for her and hoo-boy! That was a disaster."
Luffa stared at him incredulously. "No, I was talking about… never mind. You like pineapples, Kakarot?"
"Do I?!" Goku exclaimed.
"Thattaboy," Luffa said, grabbing a can of diced pinapples from the countertop. "So how much do you know about me, exactly? I'm kind of surprised you knew what Chronoa meant when she told you who I was."
"Hmm? Oh, you mean the Super Saiyan Legend." Goku said. "Vegeta told me about it, but he didn't say a lot about you personally. Just that you died a thousand years ago. Nobody said anything about you being a girl, either."
Luffa shrugged. She had already learned this from a Time Patrol mission on Namek, but the Goku she spoke to now was several years older, and she had hoped he would have heard more. It now seemed clear that his only source on Saiyan history was Vegeta, who only had so much information to share. "Better than nothing, I suppose," she finally said.
"I hope it didn't hurt too much," Goku added.
"What?" Luffa asked.
"I mean when you turned into a Super Saiyan for the first time. Things were pretty rough when it happened to me," he explained. "I was in really bad shape and Frieza was killing my friends. Later, when I thought about it, I realized the last Super Saiyan must have gone through the same thing. My boys had an easier time of it, but they're half-Earthling, and that seems to help 'em somehow. But with you and me and Vegeta, well, I think you have to get pushed pretty far to transform like that. I just hope you didn't suffer a lot when it happened."
"I did."
"Oh."
"I made them regret it, though," she said darkly.
"Yeah, I'll bet," Goku said with a knowing smile. "You're no pushover, Luffa. I can tell that just watchin' you chop that tomato. You're holdin' back a ton of power. You must have worked hard to keep it under control."
"I could say the same about you, Kakarot," she replied. "The way you sit there you'd think you were just some ordinary guy. You're not like any Saiyan I ever met before. Most of us wear it on our sleeves, but you, you're totally relaxed. Something tells me you're gonna stay that way right up until we're ready to start."
Goku simply chuckled.
"You must have kept it together a lot better than I did," Luffa said. "When you first transformed, I mean. All that Earth-style martial arts must have helped you regulate the form."
"Nah, it was pretty touch-and-go for a while. I was so mad at Frieza that I didn’t really want to rein it in, you know?"
"Heh. Yeah, tell me about it," Luffa said. "I didn’t mind until I ran out of things to fight, and then I realized I couldn’t turn it off. Fortunately I had some friends there to talk me down." She looked up from the eggs she was whisking. "I wouldn’t tell anyone else, Kakarot, but it scared the hell out of me. I thought I’d go crazy, or blow myself up, or…"
"Really?" Goku asked. "I thought you old-timer Saiyans knew all about that stuff."
She shook her head. "I guess the transformation itself never made it into the legends," Luffa said. "I knew about Chanisp and old Darbock and the other great heroes, but I never had any idea that they might have turned blonde to do the things they did. And none of those guys were women, so I don’t think anyone would have bothered filling me in. I had no idea what was happening to me."
"Wow, that must have been rough," Goku said.
"Well, like I said, I had someone there to help me. Same as you, I guess."
"No, I was mostly on my own," Goku said. "I mean, King Kai was keepin’ tabs on me from Otherworld, but I sent everyone else to get off the planet. After that, I spent a while in space before I made it to Planet Yardrat."
"I’ve heard of it," Luffa said. "In my era, it was said they developed some interesting techniques. Always wanted to go there… So they must have helped you get your powers under control."
Goku shook his head. "No, they showed me some things, but they weren’t very strong, so they didn’t know where to begin with that."
"Then how’d you--?"
There was a faraway look in his eye as he answered. "I was pretty scared myself at first, just like you were. But I remembered what Vegeta had said, about how scared Frieza was of a Super Saiyan showing up. And then Frieza asked me what I was, and I just knew. The story was true, and that meant that I wasn't the only one. There had to be another Saiyan, a long time ago, with the same power."
He locked eyes with Luffa and smiled. "And I knew if that old-timer Saiyan could handle it, then I could control it too. That was what kept me goin’. I had a couple of close calls on my way to Yardrat, and I almost wrecked my ship a few times. I probably would've lost control out in space and kicked the bucket, but I didn’t give up, because I knew he didn’t give up. Well, ’she’, I guess. Oops! Sorry, I guess I mean you, huh?"
"Are you saying… I helped you?" she asked. Suddenly she caught a whiff of something burning, and she darted over to save one of her pans.
"Yeah, I guess so!" Goku said. "Boy this time travel stuff sure is funny, huh? Even though the Supreme Kai of Time told me who you were, I guess I didn’t think it through. I never imagined I’d get to thank you in person. And look at you! You must have been younger than me when you became a Super Saiyan, and you didn’t even have someone like Vegeta to tell you about it. Hey, what’s wrong? You okay over there?"
"N-Nothing," Luffa said with a sniffle. "It's fine. I just… hey, you like onions, right?"
"Sure! They’re great on chili dogs and all sorts of other things! Chi-Chi doesn’t like what they do to my breath, but I guess she doesn’t have to know…"
"Fine, because…" Luffa paused to wipe something from her face. "I’m chopping a whole bunch of onions. Yeah. Like, all of them. I won’t tell her if you don’t."
"You bet!" He suddenly had a very coy look on his face. "We’ll keep it between us Legendary Super Saiyans, right?"
"Right, Kakarot," she said with a stifled sob.
After eating, Luffa escorted Goku to the Time Plaza, where they were greeted by the Supreme Kai of Time, and Trunks. The rest of the Time Patrol was still hard at work on repairing the city, and there were construction details all around them. Trunks was usually very serious about his duty, but for once he was in very good humor. Chronoa, on the other hand, seemed mildly annoyed with them.
"You’re late," she said to Goku and Luffa when they arrived. "You know, it’s not polite to keep a Supreme Kai of Time waiting. Ironic, sure, but not very professional."
"Sorry, ma’am," Luffa said. "We would have been here sooner if someone had helped me with the dishes."
Goku simply rubbed the back of his scalp and laughed sheepishly. It was enough to charm Chronoa into a better mood, and Luffa began to wonder if this was his technique for getting out of chores. It seemed very likely that Son Goku had never washed a dish in his life.
"It’s all right," Chronoa said. "Without you two, Tokitoki City wouldn’t even be here. You’ve earned some downtime. How was breakfast?"
"Well I’ve had better omelets," Goku said, as he patted his belly, "but I sure can’t complain about the portions!"
"I’m standing right here, you insensitive oaf," Luffa said frostily. "And I don’t remember seeing you in the Crack of Time while I killed Demigra."
"Hey we had our hands full in the Time Nest," Goku said with a giggle.
As Luffa turned to Chronoa to discuss the logistics of their time-jump, and Trunks took Goku aside.
"Listen, Goku," he said, "I’m pretty busy right now, so I might not get a chance to say this before you head back to your own time, but could you--?"
Goku took his hand and shook it firmly. "When I get back, I’ll make sure to send Vegeta and Bulma your regards," he said. "You’ve accomplished a lot here, Trunks. Your father will be proud of everything you've built here. I know I sure am."
Trunks smiled. "It was good to see you again, Goku. Good luck with your fight."
"Hey, about that," Goku said, tugging his sleeve before Trunks could turn to leave. He leaned in and held his hand over one side of his face. "You’ve sparred with her before, right? Do you got any advice for me?"
"Did you bring a cup?" Trunks asked. His face suddenly bore an uncomfortable expression.
"What? No, we already ate, Trunks," Goku said. "What do I need a cup for? I’m not thirsty."
Trunks became even more anxious, and then he closed his eyes, as though resigned to the situation. "Never mind," he said. "You two have fun out there, okay?"
"Kakarot, are we doing this or not?!" Luffa demanded. "The door’s open, let’s go!"
"I’ll be right there!" Goku said. "Well, I gotta go, Trunks. Take care!"
Trunks watched him run off, then turned and shook his head. "It'll be fine," he said to himself as he walked off to attend to other matters. "They'll be just fine."
[9 May, Age 791. The Tuffle Planet.]
The Parallel Quest system in Toki Toki City relied upon a fleet of time machines, each modified to travel to various time fragments that had been preserved by Chronoa for research and training purposes. Time Patrollers would visit these fragments to experience moments in history, or to simulate mission scenarios they would encounter in the field. The main advantage of the fragments was that they each replicated a short span of time in the genuine universe, complete with many of the same events in the true history, but the fragments were completely isolated from the timeline. This meant that a Patroller could take almost any action in a PQ mission without altering history. The fragment would simply reset and return to its original state.
And so, this made the PQ system the ideal venue for two Super Saiyans to do battle. Any collateral damage would be of no consequence, and Goku and Luffa could fight as hard as they pleased. The only detail left would be to choose a proper setting for their battle, and Trunks had arranged this the night before. He had explained his choice to Luffa, but for Goku, this would be a surprise.
"Wow. So where are we anyway?" Goku asked as he peeked out of the dome-shaped canopy of the time machine.
"Planet Vegeta," Luffa said. "Or Plant, depending on who you ask. There’s a divergent timeline where a Tuffle machine mutant asked Shenron to recreate the whole planet inside Earth's solar system. He was planning to repopulate it with Earthlings infested with Tuffle spores, or something like that, but it didn’t pan out. Anyway, in this time frame, the planet we're on is deserted, so you and I can duke it out without any distractions."
They had both jumped out of the time machine as Luffa explained this, but Goku's attention was focused more on the horizon than on her words. The sky was crimson, with thin wispy clouds overhead. It almost looked like Earth around sunset, but the sun was still high above them, along with a large blue crescent. For a moment, Goku wondered if this was the moon, but then he sensed the ki from the living energy of the body, and recognized it as Earth.
The gravity was higher than on Earth, though it did not bother Goku at all. He had heard long ago that the Saiyan homeworld had a higher gravity, similar to that of King Kai's planet. Long ago, those conditions had given Goku some difficulty, but by now he was so acclimated to high-gravity environments that he barely noticed the difference. What truly made the planet look strange to him was the architecture. In the distance lay a city centered around a crater. A butte rose out of the middle of the crater, and on top of this stood a massive tower, with flying buttresses extending from all sides and reaching out to the city below like great steel tentacles. Goku had never seen anything like it in his travels. It was all quite strange to him.
And yet, there was something familiar about it at the same time.
"Say, I was born here, wasn’t I?" Goku asked.
"Yeah," Luffa said. "Trunks thought it would make a good neutral battlefield for us. It’s a Saiyan home-world, so we know it can take a pounding, but it’s new to both of us. You were sent away as a baby, and I've never been here before. I can see why Saiyans would want to live here, though. It is kind of pleasant to look at, don’t you think?"
"I guess," Goku said. "But it seems kind of creepy with all these buildings and no one else around. Besides, we ain’t here to admire the view."
"Damn straight," Luffa said. "Listen, before we get down to business, I have a request."
"Huh? A request? Okay, shoot."
"I don't know about you, but I've wanted something like this for years," Luffa said. "I never imagined I'd actually get to meet one of the old Super Saiyans, or that I'd live long enough to see the next guy… well, you. So just getting to fight you is a big deal for me."
"I'm pretty excited about it too," Goku said.
"Well, the thing is, there's no guarantee that we're evenly matched," Luffa said. "The fight will settle that, but we're from different eras. If Chronoa had contacted the Kakarot from five years earlier, you'd be five years weaker than you are today."
"I think I follow you," Goku said, though his expression suggested otherwise. "
"Look, there's a chance one of us could overwhelm the other," Luffa said. "I'm a lot stronger than I was when I first transformed, and I know you've come a long way yourself, but what are the odds that were dead even in this moment?"
"I guess we'll just have to find out," Goku said as he started rotating his shoulders to limber up.
"Of course, but what I'm getting at is that we shouldn't be in a hurry to settle things," Luffa said. "Even if this turns out to be a mismatch, it's still special to me. So let's take our time and savor the moment. It's a special occasion, you know? I bet every Super Saiyan before us wishes they could be doing what we're about to do."
"All right, that works for me," Goku said. "I'll ramp things up if it gets too dull, but otherwise… yeah, we oughta drag this out as long as we can."
"Good," Luffa said as she adjusted her gloves. "Now that that's settled, we ought to start out as Super Saiyans, right? Seems kind of appropriate."
Goku nodded. "Ladies first," he said.
Luffa nodded curtly and threw her head back as she transformed. Golden flames flickered around her as her hair glowed with a harsh yellow light.
"Incredible," Goku said. "From the feel of it, you’re more used to this form than your normal state."
"Let’s get on with this," Luffa said. "Or are you going to make me wait another thousand years?"
Goku balled his fists and widened his stance. He made a sort of humming noise as he gathered his energy, and then he cried out as he unleashed it into his transformation. His hair now glowed just like Luffa’s, and their fiery auras mingled together.
"A lot like Trunks," Luffa said. "I should have noticed it before. He said it was your son who trained him. But I couldn’t sense any of this in you over breakfast. It’s like you’re a whole other person now." She bent her knees and settled into a defensive posture. "Ready?"
Goku crouched and angled his body to one side, pointing his right knee towards Luffa. He lowered his hands just below his chest, and kept them slightly open, as though ready to grab or punch at a moment’s notice.
"Yeah! Let’s do this!" he said. But neither of them moved. Anxious as they were to begin, neither wanted to open with a mistake.
And then suddenly, without warning, they both rushed towards each other. Luffa landed the first blow, but it was only a glancing strike, as Goku had twisted his upper body to avoid it. He tried to bring his knee up to Luffa’s midsection, but she somersaulted out of range. Once she landed, she leaped towards him to hit him from behind, but Goku spun around and caught her in the face with his forearm. She toppled over, but just as her body had reached a certain angle, she swung up her leg and kicked at Goku’s face. He blocked this, but not the second kick she threw with her other leg a split second later. Then she broke her fall and launched herself into the air, where she held out her arms, expecting to exchange ki blasts from a distance
Then suddenly Goku was behind her. She had sensed his movement, but her position had left her ill-prepared to react. He grabbed her arm and started swinging her around. Then, to his surprise, she grabbed hold with her other arm, and started applying her own power to spin him. To an outside observer, it would have looked like a mid-air figure-skating routine, sped up to an absurd degree.
At last, they separated, and Goku went crashing to the ground, his body carving a trench as he slid into the ruddy earth of his birthworld. He scrambled to get back to his feet, but found Luffa was already standing over him.
"You like to toy with your opponents, too," she said. The she kicked him in the chest and sent him flying. An instant later she was beside Goku, flying under her own power to match Goku’s trajectory.
"We’ve got a lot in common," she added.
She raised her hands and gave him a double axehandle to his back, sending him back down to the ground. This time Goku landed on his hands and knees, but Luffa was once again right there to meet him.
"It’s weird, right?" she asked. "Like having a brother--wulp!!"
This time Goku was ready for her. When she tried to kick him in the ribs, he leaped up into a handstand to avoid it, then swung out one of his legs for a kick to her jaw. She barely managed to duck this, but not the palm strike which followed. For a moment, she stumbled backward, clutching her face, and Goku used the opening to flip himself upright again.
"I had a brother," Goku said. He was as cheerful as ever, but there was an edge to his voice as he said: "I was hopin’ you’d be more of a challenge than he was."
When she recovered and turned to face him again, she looked like she had been chopping onions again. She looked furious for a moment, then she made a vicious smile. "Bored already?" she asked. "If you want to turn it up, Kakarot, go right ahead. I can handle anything you want to throw at me."
"Is that so?" Goku asked. "You’re wide open, Luffa. You’re bein’ way too sloppy for you to be talkin’ like that. You must be up to something."
"I’m just used to giving other Saiyans a handicap, that’s all," she said. "Especially the men. I know how hard it is for your egos when you can’t even land a little offense."
"It is kinda frustratin’, I won’t argue with that," Goku said. "But I’ve tagged you a few times already, so you don’t need to worry about me anymore."
Suddenly he vanished, and before Luffa could react he was directly in front of her, his right hand closing in on her trapezius. She managed to tilt to one side to avoid it, but this was only a feint. She realized this only when Goku’s other hand had collided with her gut, knocking the wind out of her.
"You'd better start blocking my hits from now on," he said ominously. "You won't last long like this."
"Why not?" She gasped. She recovered and looked him dead in the eye. "If that’s all you’ve got, I can play with you all day!"
Goku was impressed, but not so surprised that he forgot to prepare another strike. He raised his hand for a punch to her face, but she foiled this by swinging her own arm across to deflect it, slapping him across the cheeks in the process.
The attack stung Goku’s pride more than anything else.
Instinctively, he retaliated in kind, slapping Luffa with his own open palm. Her head recoiled from the blow, but she immediately responded with an even harder slap. They went on like this for several seconds, until Luffa went for a punch instead. Goku blocked it and returned fire.
From here, their fight descended into a stalemate, as both Super Saiyans threw punches at close quarters, with neither landing a direct hit. The rhythm of punches, blocks, and dodges was almost soothing in its way. It was almost too soothing for Luffa, as Goku angled his body to avoid her fist and then kept turning, setting up a spin kick. His boot connected with her right flank, but she was able to roll with it enough to dampen the impact.
For a moment, it seemed the stalemate was broken, as Goku relied on his kicks to keep Luffa at a safe distance. He was taller, which gave him an advantage in reach. As long as he kept up his momentum and moved his legs to where they needed to be, Luffa couldn't get close enough to strike back. Ki blasts were always an option, but neither of them were ready to go there. In the moment, it meant more to Luffa to overcome him without changing the terms of battle. And so she continued to play along, flying around Goku and searching for an opening to strike. Likewise, Goku continued to keep up his game, daring Luffa to find a solution instead of shifting to a new tactic.
The answer was simple enough. Goku had longer limbs, but there was one reach Luffa possessed that he did not. She goaded Goku into throwing kicks that extended his leg as far as possible. Each time she avoided his feet, but sometimes he would graze her skin with the soles of his boots. Then, at last, she moved in close enough for him to land a strike, and she caught his leg in her arms. This left her wide open, and Goku went for a punch, but then Luffa flipped around and caught him on the jaw with the tip of her tail.
The strike wasn't hard enough to knock Goku back, but it did rattle him enough to break his guard, allowing Luffa to release his leg and deliver a heavy knee to his abdomen. This sent him flying backward through the air until he managed to recover and stop himself.
Luffa was already on top of him to press her attack. Earlier, she had kept her tail out of the fight, lulling Goku into a false sense that she would not, or could not use it offensively. Now, she used it along with her arms and legs, battering Goku on all sides, whirling around like a top.
She had inspired him! This thought continued to percolate through Luffa's mind as she pressured him. Despite the centuries between them, despite her story being lost to time and suppressed by her enemies, some small part of Luffa's example had still managed to find its way to her successor. It had brought her to tears in the cafeteria, and now that they were fighting in earnest, she could pour her emotions into combat. It was more than she dared to hope for, and now she could show him what she truly was, and inspire him to achieve even greater things.
To his credit, Goku continued to block and dodge her attacks without giving up any ground. Now it was his turn to find a solution without escalating the battle or shifting to a different scenario. She expected him to grab her tail, much the same way she had foiled his kicks by targeting his leg. It only made sense for him to try this, since she would have to face away from him to attack with her tail, and if he managed to get a good grip on her, he would have a free shot. But this was not what happened.
Instead, as she spun around, she found Goku holding his hands in front of his face. For an instant, she wondered why he had left his guard down and moved in to capitalize. In the next instant, she regretted falling for his trap, as Goku suddenly cried out "Taiyo-ken!"
Suddenly, the world went white around Luffa, and she found herself unable to see anything. Even her ki senses were dazzled by the brilliance. She had encountered this technique before during Time Patrol missions, but she hadn't expected Goku to employ such a maneuver, and not in this situation. Now that it had happened, Luffa was forced to back off, and she anticipated a heavy strike.
Instead, when the blow came, it was far lighter than she had anticipated. Luffa barely managed to block it, having detected Goku's approach with her other senses. She did not, however, manage to deflect the second strike, or the third, and so on. By now, her vision was returning, but she found herself too imperiled to actually make any use of it. Goku was all over her, hitting her from all sides.
At last, Luffa became frustrated enough to put a stop to it. Raising her power, she suddenly caught each of Goku's hands as he struck, and used her knees to deflect his kicks. Soon, their melee battle had ended, and was now a test of strength. They each pushed against the other, with their fingers interlocked together.
"Impressive, Kakarot," Luffa grunted to him as they struggled. "You don't seem quite as strong as you were when you fought… Lord Beerus… but it seems like some of that god power must have rubbed off on you."
"Thanks," Goku said. "Lord Beerus told me that my body must have 'memorized' the god form somehow. I can't turn into a Super Saiyan God on my own, but I can still use some of that power in my regular Super Saiyan form."
"You're… going… to need it!" Luffa growled as she pushed harder. Their struggle had begun in the air, but the two of them slowly floated to the ground, as each of them sought something solid to stand on to improve their position.
"I can't… argue with that!" Goku replied. "You're really… urrgh… really something, Luffa. To think… you got this far… in such a short time…"
"I got a lot farther than this," Luffa said with a smirk. "Let me show you."
"Huh?" Goku began to ask, but before he could say anything else, Luffa increased her ki, and began to force Goku backward. Unable to resist her, all he could do was take a step back, and then another, and another. He tried to pull free of her, only to find that Luffa wouldn't let go.
"Confused?" Luffa asked. "Let me make it simple for you."
With a loud yelp, she pushed him harder and faster, causing Goku to lose his footing altogether. She now shoved him backward, driving him faster and faster until they crashed into something. When the dust settled, Goku realized they had plowed through a mesa and caused it to collapse. But Luffa still wouldn't let go, and she swung him around and smashed him into one of the largest portions of the mesa that was still standing.
Her grip seemed to be inescapable, but as Luffa prepared to fling him into something else, Goku brought up his legs and slipped them between their arms. Once he had threaded the space between them, Goku bent his knees around Luffa's arms, and applied enough pressure to force her to let go of his hands. With his arms freed, Goku could then take advantage of the position, and while he had Luffa's arms caught in his legs, he brought his hands together and drove them down on her head with tremendous force.
Luffa stumbled backward as they separated, and Goku followed up with an elbow smash aimed between her neck and left shoulder. She seemed dazed, but just before he could connect, she recovered and dropped to the ground. This threw Goku off-balance just enough for her to slide between his ankles and get behind him. Before he could turn around, she was back on her feet and wrapping her arms around his belly.
"What the--?" Goku asked. The answer was: back suplex.
With a savage grunt, Luffa threw herself backward and pulled Goku along with her, driving him head-first to the ground. That was her plan, anyway. What she hadn't counted on was Goku's reversal. He made a grunt of his own on the way down, and his golden aura flashed more intensely as he applied his power. He raised his hands so that they would hit the ground first, and when they made contact he generated a force through his legs that propelled his body forward, adding to the momentum of Luffa's throw. This allowed him to perform something like a handstand, but with Luffa still hanging onto his waist.
It was an awkward position, but more awkward for Luffa, who now had to decide whether to release her grip or take her chances on whatever Goku would do next. Before she could choose, Goku took flight, and grabbed hold of her wrists, trapping her. He then flew backwards, angling towards a large rock formation in the distance. But just as they reached it, Luffa's hands began to glow…
The planet was deserted, but if an observer had been there to witness the battle, they would have seen the two Super Saiyans collide with the hillside while simultaneously blasting it apart with an explosive wave of golden ki energy. The entire hill was blanketed with a cloud of dust and debris, which all glowed red from the residual energy of the blast. And when the color faded, and the dust cleared, this hypothetical observer would have found both Super Saiyans floating over what was left of the hill, completely unscathed.
"You managed to dodge that?" Luffa asked. "I'm impressed."
"I could say the same to you, Luffa," Goku said with a smirk. "You're no slouch, that's for sure."
"All right, maybe it's time we picked up the pace," Luffa said. "I was a little worried that the planet might get damaged, but from what I've seen, it looks like it'll be tough enough to handle this."
"Yeah," Goku said. "As long as nobody shoots straight down, I think we'll be all right. We are using blasts from here on, right?"
"Of course," Luffa replied. "As far as I'm concerned, everything's on the table. Oh, I get it… you were waiting for me to do it first, just to prove you didn't need to resort to that."
"Heh… Something like that," Goku said.
"Games within games, huh?" Luffa said. "There's more to you than meets the eye, Kakarot. Well, I'd say we're done with the warm up. Let's move on to the next stage."
As they circled each other in the air, both of them raised their arms and prepared to continue.

Sometimes, you might find yourself thinking "what if I write DBZ fanfiction? I think that might be fun. I mean, it's Dragon Ball so the stakes are low."
And that, I'm learning, is the devil talking, because DBZ has the single most outlandish and horrible case of 'what is canon, too many conflicting texts to decide' I have ever encountered. And I've read the History of the Middle Earth.
(the problem is that Toei are not loving lorekeepers like Christopher Tolkien was, and Toriyama was not going into this with the intentionality that Tolkien did with trying to refine his canon)

King Vegeta Headcanons (AU)
Tumblr media
King Vegeta was great Father to Vegeta. Held him, a higher him and even played with him when he could.
He was a good kind and fair ruler and hated when Frieza named the planet after him as a gawker sense of “respect” but also he thought it was obnoxious and disrespected the fallen Tuffles.
He loved both of his sons and sent tarble away to save his life (based on another Headcanon I have)
He would often hold and snuggled Vegeta at night not because Vegeta was scared but because he knew under Frieza anything could happen and he wanted to hold onto his son as much as possible and even cry holding him.
He fell in love with a Tuffle before the saiyan/Tuffle war (in my headcanon their normal sized ) Tonna (OC) . She was a scientist he helped save form a beast near the mountain where she was out camping . She unfortunately died against the rouge saiyans attempting to destroy the Tuffles (based on anther au Headcanon I have )
He feel in love again with Riitta (“lettuce in Japanese she’s not my OC but an existing one in the fandom idk who form but she’s got fanart of her out there)
He attempted to teach Vegeta about honor and respect and their saiyan heritage but their new oppression by and the cast system of strength imposed by Freida had its influence on him as well, but he was never bratty or mean around his father.
He personally chosen Napa to be Vegeta body guard because he as good with kids and very strong and a skilled fighter.
He felt such guilt after Frieza came into power and many saiyan lives lost under his leadership and unable to do anything and scared his son would be taken away from him., but it only made him more determined to end Frieza reign of terror on them.

Henlo! Could I request some headcanons where Cooler, Frieza, Android 17, and Gohan get the "If anything happens, I love you" message from their S/O? Maybe S/O was away for a little while before getting into a dangerous situation, but is found injured but alive.
Their S/O Gets Severely Injured
Characters: Cooler, Frieza, Android 17 and Gohan Requester: ❤️‍🩹Anon A/N: I now nickname you ❤️‍🩹Anon, since your prompt is about y’know… healing and whatnot. Anyways, this is my first Dragon Ball piece so I do not guarantee that they are all in character, so warning there I guess. By the way, in Gohan's piece, the reader is female since y'know... Pan and all. Now, enjoy, I guess!

»»————————————- Cooler ————————————-««
🧊 When Cooler first inherited his portion of his family's army, he wasn't amused with how small it was. But, when comparing his power to his younger brother's, it was understandable why it was so differentiating when it comes to size
🧊 Thankfully, his father, King Cold, was kind enough to give him the district that you, his darling S/O of many years, lead with a high amount of nobility and pride
🧊 Cooler has been away for a while when you were sent out by Frieza to cover a nearby planet and either gain their trust or completely annihilate them without any mercy. It was truly your call there
🧊 But, when he returned to see that you and your band of armored warriors were missing and have been for a few hours, Cooler began to become nervous. You were never gone this long when taking care of some minor business on Frieza, King Cold, or even Cooler's orders
" Lord Frieza! There seems to be a misreading! "
" What do you mean by a misreading? " Frieza questioned, a sense of annoyance and a very small amount of curiosity laced him his already pissy tone.
" It seems that the planet we sent Section 213 to is full of powerful fire-demons, much like us! "
" What?! "
🧊 After hearing this, your lover demanded to see your coordinates and send out another section, Section 89, out to find you and your teammates. And while his younger sibling attempted to reassure him of your team's power, Cooler merely pushed him aside and began to descend with Section 89 right behind him
🧊 Once landed, Cooler began to fight with the team following suite, knocking each beast aside with relative average stats. While it took on average two or three members per monster, they were taking care of them relatively quick
" Y/N? Y/N, where the hell are you?! "
" She's over here, Master Cooler! "
🧊 Running at a high-speed that could be compared to the super-saiyan's, Cooler stopped in his tracks when seeing your bruised and cut-up body. You had a large gash on the side of your stomach, and he could tell from a mere few feet away that you needed immediate medical assistance
🧊 Once returned, Cooler yelled for the healers to fix you. Though, it was hard for them to focus with both Frieza and Cooler glaring at them from behind. Frieza was only there because he couldn't afford to lose a powerful warrior and by-far one of the most talented fighters he had left after the battle on Namek
🧊 At some point, the doctor had to push the two outside, which was where Cooler stayed while tyrannical emperor left to sort out the rest of his ship from the chaos
" Master Cooler. Your S/O is all patched up. "
" And? "
" They will make it perfectly well. They'll just need a few days of healing. They're quite lucky. If they were a mere Yardrat or Tuffle they'd most likely be beyond any kind of help. "
" Good. Now, leave. I must see them for myself. "
" Understood. "
🧊 While he sat down in a seat right beside your medical bed, Cooler just sighed and ran a hand across your cheek, which had multiple cuts and bruises, not to mention a slight burn that reached from your chin to your forehead in a straight line. Oh, how awful was it on that damned planet?
🧊 You'll tell him when you wake up. Yes you will. But for now, Cooler can lay his head down on your bed and rest for a bit before you awaken form your long-overdue power-nap

»»————————————- Frieza ————————————-««
🏔️ Frieza has hated being in Hell for the many years he was wrapped up like a larvae becoming a butterfly or moth and sung to like a baby by cutesy-bears and fairies. Due to this, he had a ton of pent-up anger. Which, while he did not mean it, he had accidentally taken out on a small fraction of his army
🏔️ From this lose in members, Frieza had no choice but to send out one of his best teams; Team Y/N. Which just so happened to be led by his favorite soldier and his one and only spouse, Y/N
🏔️ Before you and your team evacuated to check for any signs of life on the now-destroyed and bare wasteland that was once a prosperous land, you had left a solid message for your husband. One that he would forever regret not telling you in person
" If anything happens, I love you? That cheesy moron... "
" As if you are any better, brother. "
" Shut it, Cooler! "
🏔️ You and your team had just barely landed when one of them was snatched away with stupendous speed. This kind of speed was alarming to you and your underlings, causing a couple of them to panic and get snatched themselves
🏔️ Meanwhile on the ship, a fairly-rounded serving demon was observing the life-monitors that laid within each Frieza's Force member's body. And once he noticed the way they were immediately falling like flies, his tail feathers erupting and knocking his chair back, alarming his Highness
" What is going on down there?! " Frieza barked.
" Team Y/N is getting pummeled, killed even! We need to send people down there- now! "
🏔️ Frieza stood abruptly and ordered for the guards to follow him, after all, backup is necessary almost wherever the dangerous man went. Especially when it came to the safety of his lover
🏔️ Once landed, the sight of four out of the seven members of your team being impaled on the elongated tongues of horrifying and demonic-appearing beasts caused the Emperor of the Universe's heart to start racing. You better not have been harmed!
🏔️ The male raised his hand and sent a large beam of energy soaring at the monster, causing it's tongue to come flying off of it's mouth. The smell from it's blood was rancid, but if smelling this meant that you would be safe, then so be it
🏔️ You were located a mere few feet away, hiding behind a large boulder structure by Frieza. And once he picked you up, he rushed back to the ship, his men and yours following as they sent many beams at the creatures as they attempted to follow suit
🏔️ Back on the ship, Frieza sat in his room as the doctor healed you up. While he would love to be there for his dearest, the sight of their beaten and bloody body was by-far the only thing keeping him away from the Cui-copy's work
🏔️ The sound of his door being knocked on made him stand and ready himself, putting on his cool and composed facial expression before opening the door, ready to scold and possibly punish the soldier for daring to interrupt the most powerful being in the ship. How he would do so was already pulsating through his mind
" What is it you want? I am clearly in the middle of business. "
" Wow, you're seeming extra nice today. Are you sad I was hurt by that behemoth of a beast? "
🏔️ A small crack of his voice was heard as Frieza opened his eyes to see you standing there with a highly-functional mechanical cast around your leg, a small amount of pre-obtained energy holding your leg up and behind you in a position as if you were kneeling on one side
" Y/N... Why aren't you healing in the medbay?! I was about to come visit you! "
" Uh-huh. C'mon, the doctor said I needed to fix up my other leg's walking anyways! " Sarcasm was highly detecatble in your tone, causing Frieza to be slightly annoyed. Why are you being so calm?!
" That doesn't matter- "
" Yeah, yeah. Anyways, you got any wine back there? "
" W-what?! By what I remember, taking in alcohol, no matter the kind, with medication could cause someone to... overdose, if I remember correctly. "
" Aw~ Are you still worried about me?~ "
" S-shut it! Just- get in here already... you're a pain. "

»»——————————- Android 17 ——————————-««
🐈‍⬛ This guy knew how dangerous this Tournament was, so why was he now just wondering why the enemy was being so tough on you, it was obvious that you were beaten, so why was he continuing?!
" Hey! He's going to far! "
" Y/N, hang in there! "
🐈‍⬛ Everyone's calls were only enraging your husband even farther as he fought against another Universe 5 fighter while you dealt with the other two dogs
🐈‍⬛ The yellow one, Lavender, has thrown so much of his poisonous energy at you that it was beginning to make your joints slow down, which alarmed the rest of your teammates. Hell, even Frieza was nervous at the sight- you had the amount of power that could level up to defeat him!
" Why you damned wolf! "
🐈‍⬛ Holding your hand up as you canceled out every sound around you, the slight movements of feet with fur and claws was the only thing you would allow through. This meant you would be able to both dodge and hit the remaining beast-men back with ease
" Take this! "
🐈‍⬛ Gripping his hand in yours, you could feel the poison rush through your body, but the feeling was numb to you, the amount of venom in your system seemingly muted out anymore seeping through your thick-skin
" Wait, what the hell?! "
🐈‍⬛ Android 17 smirked and jumped up before kicking the blue wolf, Bergamo, in your direction while you powered a whip of energy before wrapping Basil and Lavender up as you twirled them around and threw them away, grabbing Bergamo on the way as they soared back and off the edge of the field, resulting in a Universe 7 win
🐈‍⬛ 17 ran up to you and wrapped his arms around you before you were teleported back up to your teammates for a small intermission granted by Zeno upon Goku's request
" What were you thinking? "
" About the survival of our home, and our family. "
" And while I appreciate that, Y/N, you must be more careful with your limits. I don't need another Goku around. "
" Hey! "
🐈‍⬛ Hearing you chuckle as Whis laid his staff on your forehead before booping you and releasing your body of the poison's affects made your husband smile gently and hold you close as Universe 7's angel chanted with an 'all better now!'
" Don't you ever scare me like that again, you hear? "
" Nope, you forgot a couple of things in that sentence there, mister. "
" Why you... alright. Please don't ever scared me like that again. I love you to much for that to happen. "
" That's better. "
🐈‍⬛ While you laid your foreheads upon one another's, the sound of Goku and Frieza gagging in the back caused you to laugh as 17 just sighed like a disappointed father

»»————————————- Gohan ————————————-««
📚 Unlike his father, Gohan was primarily focused on his work and studies growing up. Putting his training behind for helping his family of his wife, Y/N, and his young daughter, Pan, prosper in life
📚 You on the other hand, adored to fight. As you were raised by your favorite person on Earth, who also just so happened to be a fellow descendant of the Three-Eyed People, Tien Shinhan
📚 As Pan grew older, you would help Piccolo and others train her, teaching her valuable lessons in minor training for her human-side while Piccolo handled her more alien side, which came from your husband
📚 Gohan knew that sometimes you would go out and about with his father's old friends in order to handle some ordeals, and with you being one of the strongest human fighters in their current time, you were practically required to attend
📚 As you kissed your daughter's forehead and gave your husband the tightest hug known to the half-blooded Saiyan, you gave him a final message until you returned a few days later
" If anything happens, I love you. "
📚 If anything happens? How far away were you going this time?
📚 While it was quite a hassle balancing his job and caring for Pan by himself, Gohan was grateful to have both his mother, Chi-Chi, his sensei, Piccolo, and his childhood friend, Videl, all there to help out once and a while
📚 He couldn't wait for when you would come home. Counting down the days with fun dinners for him and his daughter as the calendar was decorated with cute little stickers from Videl
" Hey Papa? Why does Mama look so beaten up? "
" She probably- wait she looks what?! "
" She has a big cut on the side of her face. It looks like it's bleeding a lot! "
📚 Gohan opened the front door of your home and picked you up quickly before rushing inside and running towards the bathroom to find your first-aid kit. Well, one of the many you had around the house
📚 Pan looked worried as you picked her up and laid her on your lap, brushing your hand through her hair as she sniffed and began to allow tears to bulge up in her eyes. You never liked to see your daughter in any kind of distress, especially emotionally. Physical scars can heal, but emotions are far harder to fix
" Mama, where did you get the cut...? "
" Let's just say... Mama got into a fight with some bad people and Mama kicked their butts. "
" Really? What were they like? Were they s... sai... "
" Saiyans? "
" Yeah! Were they Saiyans like Papa? "
📚 As Gohan walked back into the room with gauze being prepared in his hands, he saw just how comfortable Pan asked you questions while you avoided the topic of exactly who you fought and what happened on that planet miles away
" Y/N, can you please lift your headpiece up? "
📚 You did as your husband asked as you laid your thick head piece on the side, it was cracked from some force coming from your now deceased enemy, but it was nothing that Bulma couldn't fix!
📚 While Gohan bandaged up your head and arms, Pan asked both you and him questions of the days back when you both fought side-by-side. And whenever you mentioned him singing with the old dragon, Icarus, his face erupted in a mix of pink and red
📚 Why was your memory so damn good...
" Can I hear the song? "
" I don't think Piccolo would like to be reminded of that... again... "
" All the more reason to do it! "

On a whim Fu decided to pull the strongest variants of beings across the multiverse. The most powerful and unique forms of the warriors of universe 6,7,ETC. Why? To “gather data” on these new forms.
THE SHOWCASE!
FU:
Your lovely host! The great prince of darkness with large hips and the ability to mess with anything he wants.
GOKU:
The Guardian:A Goku that took the role of Kami when he was younger. Due to this he now lives upon the look out and has several magical techniques. Due to all this divine training his lowest forms rank near the realm of the Gods.
The Dragon:After vanishing with Shenron this Goku was transported to the land of eternal Dragons. Now featuring small reptilian traits and the dragon balls lodged into his massive pecs.
The Lord in Black:A Goku Black who was taken over by Fu. His violent urges contained by a mask but his power able to mostly flow freely bulking up as he’s able to grow to to high levels of SSR or turn into a SSR oozaru
VEGETA:
The Immortal:Due to getting his immorality on Namek Vegeta was able to become stronger than ever. Abusing Zenkai boosts and winning most battles with ease. Basically invincible as he has replaced Beerus as U7s destroyer.
The Monkey King:After Kakarot left Vegeta tuned and perfected SSJ4. Now walking around in the form as his mostly causal appearance. Except when Bulma tells him to return.
The Parasite:A Baby Vegeta who defeated Goku and created his tuffle empire. Served a spoiled by his people he’s become a permanent fat gorilla.
GOHAN:
The Beast:A Gohan who suffers from a mutation where when he’s angry his body grows into a great ape. Usually trying to suppress his anger it grows harder as his forms grow stronger.
The Professor:A Gohan who achieved Super Saiyan 4 but only uses it under very particular circumstances as his body wildly bulks up when he activated the form.
The Hope:A future Gohan who was assisted by the Supreme Kais. His body filled with Godly power ups with his remaining arm greatly bulking up.
TRUNKS:
The Noble Son:A Trunks who lived a soft cushy life of peace growing rather feminine. His lady like charms being a benefit in many situations.
The Time Patroller:The Trunks usually trying to stop Fu only to be expanded in random ways.
PICCOLO:
The Grand Elder:Due to being held under water by Freeza during their battle this Piccolos body bloated up rapidly. Now he’s a large sloshy blob of his old self living on Namek.
The Demon King:A Piccolo who had his potential unlocked early and successfully subjugated Earth. He keeps the other warriors of earth trapped within his bountiful muscle.
FRIEZA:
The Universal Emperor:Thanks to training much eariler Friezas power has soared but with a side effect. His true form is a blob of blimped out muscle that he needs his lower forms to contain. If he reaches his Black form one pec is the size of Earth.
COOLER:
The Living Black Hole:As he and the Big Getty Star became one Cooler is now a gigantic metallic Kaiju who gulps down planets do keep himself powered.
ANDROID 17:
The Ranger:Due to living so quietly and comfortably 17 has gained a large flabby dad bod. With his butt being able to bounce away damage.
The Super Battery:When Super 17 was battled by Goku he took all the energy without blowing. Now packed with large muscle he struggles to keep in control.
CELL:
The Ultimate Life Form:After a victory against Gohan, Cell gathered the powers and techniques of every mortal and Godly being he can. But at the cost of his figure rapidly expanding.
VEGITO:
The Eternal Master:Due to the potara being permanent and permanently absorbing Buu. This Vegitos body has rapidly expanded muscles and power so overwhelming he breezed by most battles with ease. Now training the strongest of his timeline.
BUU:
Zen Buu:”A very strong Buu from a DIFFERENT series but you don’t need to know much. Just know I’m basically a God. Just can’t use Hakai….can I? Meh I’ll just make cookies.”
JANEMBA:
The Super Demon:After being purged by Gogeta, Saike wasnt fully cured of Janembas power. His body randomly expanding in the big fat yellows of base Janemba and the red muscular bulk of Super Janemba.
BEERUS:
The BIG brother:The large cocked God of destruction usually bugged by his brother on @bigchampa When he’s angry his muscles bloat up and he’s constantly hungry.
WHIS:
The Divine Servant:The Whis from the same timeline as the previous Beerus. Able to expand his large rump across universes to appease his horny master.
MORO:
The Universe Eater:Having devoured the very multiverse this variant of Moro can rewrite his very own story. But suffers from his body growing very fat anytime he uses said powers.
ANDROID 21:
The Monkey Queen:Thanks to awakening during the Tuffle invasion. This 21 was able to devour both her variant of Baby and Goku in their great apes form. Leading her to become a great ape at will.
Broly
SSJ4- After a lengthy power up, Broly obtained the form and has the ability to revert to a giant oozaru. Normally has a muscular strongfat built.
GOTEN:
The Chosen Son:A Goten who was the final line of defense against his timelines Cell. Despite his young age he’s trained nearly non stop with a surviving Krillin.
CHI-CHI:
The Ox Queen:Thanks to wanting to grow stronger to protect her family. An ancient power has awaken in Chi-Chi causing her to become a giant of muscle and fat.
BULMA:
The Queen of Saiyans:In another world Bulma was able to help revive the Saiyan race. A mixture of the dragon balls and machinery allowing for a new planet vegeta. With her being the first queen in generations.
ANDROID 18:
The Spoiled Housewife:After settling down and Bulma undoing a power block. 18 has become a lazy obese housewife who can with ease still beat around Super Saiyan Gods.
The Queen of Earth:After devouring the Z-fighters and the future warriors. This 18 has pressed her fat ass in the throne of the old king of earth. Commanding an army of servants less they become her food.
VIDEL:
The Strongest Hero:Thanks to more rigorous training Videl or The Great Saiyawoman is a real world super person. But her identity is hard to keep secret as only one woman has such a build.
GINE:
The Survivor:Thanks to leaving planet Vegeta before its destruction. With the mother of Goku landing on yardrat becoming a wise master of dozens of abilities. Has a skinny voluptuous build and able to an oozaru along with some super saiyan forms.
FASHA:
The Admiral:A Fasha viewed as valuable by Freiza and kept alive. Eventually taking over his empire after the death of his family and publicly devouring him. With her recruiting every Saiyan she could. Has a tall bulky build. Her oozaru form is bigger abs more muscular than most.
PAN:
The Berserker:A mutation in Pan refuses her the ability to become Super Saiyan. But in truth her hybrid DNA causes her to become an unstoppable disastrous monster similar to Broly.
BRA:
The Strongest:Born with comically high potential and a pride only a Saiyan could have. This Bra values only a good battle and becoming unbeatable. A young adult with a very muscular build.

What do you think about the Tuffles/Tsufurujins? Do you have any headcanons about them?
Finally getting around to answering asks! (Work has been something else.)
I don't actually have any specific headcanons about them!
I do generally subscribe to the basic lore that the saiyans did not originate from Vegeta-sei/Planet Vegeta, though. That they conquered it after coming from somewhere else.
I made up...a ton of lore concerning this, but to go in-depth about it would involve a lot of spoilers for my pre-DBZ fic, so...
But! There's a lot to wonder about: If saiyans didn't come from Vegeta-sei and had to conquer another planet, why did they do so? Did something happen to their original home? Were they abused or enslaved by someone else like they were by Freeza? Were they just greedy and bloodthirsty and liked another planet more? Lots of interesting things to play with here!
In my own head, I like to think that, wherever they originally came from, the first Super Saiyan helped them defeat their enemies and establish a home of their own. Maybe this has happened a few times throughout history, even! Perhaps saiyans evolved from a small population that was taken from one planet and wandered space, adapting to become strong, until one of them transformed and helped them find a planet of their own.
I'd love to hear other people's headcanons!

Been getting back into dbz lately (partially thanks to the dbz fandom being alive and well and kicking my ass on artfight with my one oc) and as a result i've been thinking of lots of aus and what-ifs regarding dbz and such
Had a late night can't sleep thought of 'what if Tarble had married a Tuffle instead of Gure'/'what if Gure was a Tuffle' and this lovely lady was born!
Her name is Princess Furu (from Furūtsu/Fruit). She is the last 'pure'/non-Baby-like Tuffle and daughter of King Tuffle who was sent to another planet as a small child early in the Saiyan-Tuffle war. When the Tuffles lost contact with the experimental ship it was presumed destroyed but in reality it had in fact managed to land safely on another planet. The very same planet that Tarble would be sent to many years later by his father! Initially there was some tension between the two but eventually Furu began to accept the Prince. After learning of the destruction of Planet Vegeta the two bonded with another over the loss of the planet and, now, the loss of both of their peoples.
Eventually Tarble and Furu seek out Vegeta for help dealing with Abo and Kado just like in canon, however, this time they choose to stay on Earth. The reason being that they have a daughter in this AU and they would like her to grow up around other Saiyans.
The daughter is gonna be a reworked version of my ancient tuffle-saiyan hybrid oc Elppa!
Anyway here is the Princess herself!
Tumblr media
She's basically her own oc at this point I guess? Just heavily inspired by Gure :D She's also stylistically inspired by various tuffle outfits seen throughout the series!

thread wishlist // tbu
a small collection of plots & threads i'd love to explore here - ofc, these can be written with anybody willing / interested - please let me know if any stand out for you either via ims, comment, asks or wherever~ many thank c:
possession // baby actually posessing your muse and by this i mean, he nestles in there and taunts them or TRIES to take control // i feel this could be fun to do as a horror-themed thread which could introduce a dynamic that focuses on both characters wrestling in a more mental sort of battle. they could be aware of baby trying to possess them but they're fighting OR hell, maybe they welcome it? it could even dip into comedy or drama if we decided to take other routes with it. for example, one idea could be - your muse wrestling with baby's voice trying to talk them into evil. another idea could be baby hitching a ride and having them go somewhere / do somewhere he, himself can't do. however, they have enough control to make for some fun, silly situations. horror or comedy hell maybe even black comedy - either way, it'd be fun !
AUs // alt universe where baby stops being a big ( lil ) bitch and actually turns good or toward some kind of good and tagging alongside your muse to aid them or for them to aid him. i am a big sucker for adventure stories - i love characters going on a journey and i am open for any verse in this respect. imagine them travelling across universe in search of the other tuffle specimens OR finding themselves trapped on a planet and having to work their way out of the planet TOGETHER. that kinda stuff, i absolutely adore !
AUs 2 // other verses in general - i have very basic set ups for final fantasy, baldurs gate 3, elden ring etc. but i'd love to write some more. i'd love to explore other universes like berserk, resident evil, silent hill, alien, horror etc. baby's a pretty versatile character i think, and it'd be awesome to explore some more verses with him - !
romance ? // is it self indulgence to look toward some kind of romantic ship maybe? but maybe something more complex, like - baby took the body of a character's ex-lover and in doing so, he learned their old feelings for your muse. as a result, he has this weird pining / interest in your muse that he ( and your muse ) don't entirely understand / can place. but like soul mates, they're weirdly drawn to each other or something. this kinda thing could go down the route of super sweet or borderline-horror and i think i'd be dope !

King Cold Has A Thing For Saiyans
。°⚠︎°。 Disclaimer: Please understand that I am aware this is most likely not true and is simply a collection of fan ideas and headcanons. It also provides an opportunity for open discussion in the comments section for those who wish to share their thoughts.
I know what you're probably thinking. Wtf? ಠ_ಠ
As much as the fanbase is aware, Icejins (or Arcosians, but it's a preference) are asexual. In this context, 'asexual' refers to their ability to reproduce without the involvement of a second parent, meaning a partner is not required for reproduction. In terms of human sexuality, asexuality means having no sexual feelings or desires or not being sexually attracted to anyone or anything. We all know that Icejins' consistent appearances, such as Frieza, Cold, and Cooler, resemble those of Earth's lizards. Therefore, I'm inclined to say that their reproduction habits are similar.
And yes, there are certain reptilian lizards that have the ability to reproduce asexually through a process called parthenogenesis. In parthenogenesis, an unfertilized egg is able to develop into an offspring without the need for sperm to fertilize it. As a result, the offspring produced through parthenogenesis are essentially genetic clones of the "mother" lizard (putting quotations into consideration that from what we've seen, there are no female Icejins that exist). But that doesn't mean that these lizards will not engage in mating behavior when potential and suitable mates are available. Of course, while Icejins have an uncanny resemblance to lizards, they have sentience outside their basic needs.
Based on this information, this also means that the idea of the Icejins being asexual can be subjective.
So, I believe that Icejins can reproduce asexually, but it is purely a choice based on their sexual preference.
Frieza is honestly an excellent example of an Icejin who chooses to be asexual regarding reproduction and sexuality. I mean, we've seen this character appear in Dragon Ball so many times that we can conclude he is too discriminatory and supremacist to find anyone desirable. He honestly reminds me of Cersei Lannister from Game of Thrones in terms of extreme narcissism, the only difference being that Frieza actually does possess intelligence.
King Cold, on the other hand, reproduces asexually, which is evidenced by the existence of his offspring Frieza and Cooler. In terms of sexual orientation, King Cold's preferences are not entirely fixed and may fluctuate between asexual and non-asexual.
And I know that Dragon Ball GT isn't really considered canon, but since there's usually a lack of storytelling that opens the history of Saiyans and their background, I like to consider that the Saiyan-Tuffle War really did happen. It also does provide some expansion of King Vegeta as a character as well.
Quick Note for those who need a refresher on the Saiyan-Tuffle War:
The Tuffles, a peaceful and technologically advanced race, shared their planet, Planet Plant, with a primitive and warlike race known as the Saiyans. The Saiyans were not native to Planet Plant; they arrived there after their homeworld, Planet Salada, was devastated by a civil war. Initially, the Tuffles and Saiyans agreed to coexist peacefully. However, due to the Tuffles' advanced technology, they prospered and lived in large, thriving cities, while the Saiyans were relegated to the outskirts and Badlands, areas that were largely deserts and barren, unprofitable land. Over time, the Saiyans felt increasingly oppressed, allegedly treated as lower-class citizens and even slaves by the Tuffle populace, which eventually led to the outbreak of war between the two races. The war between the Saiyans and Tuffles continued for about ten years, with both sides evenly matched— the Saiyans relying on their raw power and the Tuffles on their technological advancements. The turning point came when Planet Plant experienced a rare full moon, which occurs only once every 100 years (or every 7-8 years, according to the English dub). The Saiyans took advantage of this opportunity, transforming into Great Apes under the full moon's light, dramatically increasing their strength. In this form, they were able to overwhelm the Tuffles, ultimately eradicating them and bringing an end to the war. With the Tuffles defeated, the Saiyans renamed the planet to Planet Vegeta in honor of their leader.
Returning to the idea that King Cold has a particular interest in Saiyans, as explained in the Dragon Ball GT storyline about the Saiyan-Tuffle War, it wasn't long after the war ended that Planet Vegeta and its warrior inhabitants were annexed under King Cold's rule. It's also plausible for me to think that King Cold is referred to as a "king" rather than an "emperor" because his sovereignty wasn't yet vast during most of his reign. He was still in the process of expanding his empire by annexing other worlds, including Planet Vegeta, under his control.
I wouldn't say that Cold is an overtly hypersexual person. His attraction to Saiyans stems more from a fascination with something new and different. Icejins, as we've seen, are often portrayed as cold, collected people with great intelligence. On the other hand, Saiyans prioritize battle prowess and are usually arrogant and prideful in their abilities, although they definitely have some geniuses among them.
It's new. It's different. And it's not what Cold is used to. Do you see where I'm going?
Of course, I have this feeling that Cold does not see them as equals but more as entertaining pets that he now has a 'right' to do as he pleases since they're under his rule. And considering an Icejin's long life span, this is more regarded as 'a phase' than anything else.
And I'm not saying he went and dicked down King Vegeta! No, no, no, no! Because of this supposed phase, King Vegeta and King Cold had a more amicable relationship than Frieza. Still, there totally have to be some Saiyans out there who got adventurous and tried their hand at sharing a bed with the papa lizard.
Like, I can definitely imagine that a Saiyan was crazy enough to go, "Alright, I'm drunk enough to see how fucking a sentient lizard would go." And then bam! King Cold is immediately hooked on the more aggressive nature of sexual intercourse of a Saiyan.
Not that the Saiyan would be the one in control, but there's a way to be the 'bottom' and have this aggressive confidence when having sex.
King Cold is over here with his asexual ass going like, "Yooo, I like these feisty monkeys!" But he does not go to Planet Vegeta to get his scores. He likes to stalk Cold Force ships when he knows Saiyans are hanging and making pit stops on their missions.
I, unfortunately, can picture him spiking drinks. He's a tyrant leader. Not every Saiyan he encounters will want to engage intimately with him, so he will resort to other methods to ensure he gets what he desires in the end. He gives signals to bartenders or food workers to drug their drinks and meals and whisk them away to 'take care of them.' But I can't really think of him ever acting aggressively toward rejection. He's not happy about it, frowns, and broods, and will turn to the method mentioned instead. Or he will simply walk away because there happens to be more than one Saiyan aboard (which there usually is since they often group up into teams and troops).
Eventually, with this repetition of behavior from Cold, the Saiyans know what he's doing and avoid him as much as possible when on Cold Force ships and territories. And if that's not an option, they end up going along with him because they do not want to get drugged up by him.
King Vegeta is aware of Cold's lustfulness toward his subjects, but due to Cold's higher authority, he can do little except provide minimal compensation. And while you would think that would want to make the Saiyans want to get down with him to earn that reimbursement for their troubles, they are too prideful and patriotic to consider doing the hanky panky with a race that's not their own.
Frieza is totally a hater of his father's sexual interest in the Saiyans. I am a firm believer that Cold plays a part in his racism and discrimination towards them.
What do you guys think?

Continuity Note: This story This story takes place about 66 years after the events of Dragon Ball Z.
[9 May, Age 791. The Tuffle Planet.]
In a millennium-spanning alliance, the Super Saiyans Goku and Luffa had joined forces to help the Time Patrol defeat the evil Demon God Demigra. To celebrate their victory, they agreed to do battle on an uninhabited world in an isolated time fragment.
Now, Son Goku flew across that empty planet, searching in vain for his opponent. Their battle had been truly incredible, forcing Goku to resort to his most powerful transformation, Super Saiyan 3. In this state, he had managed to overpower Luffa and hurt her left leg, but the ancient heroine was too tough and too resourceful to be defeated that easily.
In their last exchange, she had managed to escape him by hitching a ride on his Kamehameha wave while distracting him with a decoy. By the time Goku realized what she had done, she was long gone.
Their battle had become a game of seconds. Goku had been reluctant to use Super Saiyan 3 because its immense power put a serious strain on his body. His only hope of winning was to overwhelm Luffa before he succumbed to exhaustion. At the same time, each passing moment allowed Luffa's unique Super Saiyan form to gather greater strength. As long as she didn't drop back to her base form, the gap between their powers would grow narrower and narrower.
And so, the current situation favored Luffa, as Goku was forced to waste his remaining stamina on hunting for Luffa instead of fighting her. They had been playing similar cat-and-mouse games throughout the battle, as Luffa's gradual rise in power and Goku's transformations kept turning the tide back and forth. But now, they were both running out of time, and the stakes were getting higher. Goku had no more transformations left to rely upon, and he could not power down to rest, since Super Saiyan 3 was so difficult to use. As for Luffa, she was bound to be nearing her own limits.
"Her power keeps rising, but it can't rise forever," he said to himself as he followed the trajectory of his Kamehameha wave. "Even if it could, she only made it this far by staying in the Super Saiyan form for this entire fight. And maybe she's trained herself to handle that kind of strain, but she's taken a lot of damage, especially that left leg of hers. That's got to be wearing her down."
As he scanned the terrain for any telltale ki signatures, or any craters to mark where she might have fallen, Goku could not help but recall the sight of her after he had finished transforming into a Super Saiyan 3. Luffa had been disturbed enough by the notion of a Super Saiyan 2. The next level had left her visibly shaken, and he almost wondered if she had gone into shock. Physically, the form wasn't so different from the regular Super Saiyan. His hair was longer, and his eyebrow hair mysteriously vanished, but that was about it. He had taken some satisfaction in being able to show it off to her. It was nice to know that he had developed a variation that the ancient Super Saiyans never imagined. In Super Saiyan 3 Goku had truly innovated something unique. But her reaction wasn't quite what he had expected.
His first move at Super Saiyan 3 was to use the Dragon Fist to shut her down quickly, but Luffa had somehow managed to escape the worst of the attack. Her left leg had been badly hurt, but she considered this acceptable losses and continued to fight on.
Goku couldn't help but be impressed with his ancestor. She had been everything he could have hoped for in an opponent. But the longer it took for him to find her, the more concerned he became. He pictured her lying in wait, with some dangerous new trap laid for him. Or perhaps she had passed out from her injuries, and needed help.
He forced himself to dismiss these anxieties and focused his attention on the present. He would find her first and worry about what happened next when the time came.
He just hoped that he would find her soon…
Taking cover in what she assumed to be a Tuffle culvert, Luffa tore off what was left of her baggy yellow pants and began ripping the fabric into strips. She then started wrapping them around her left leg as crude bandages.
Since joining the Time Patrol, Luffa had done her best to use their clothing stores to replicate her usual fashion: yellow pants with a black top, boots, and fingerless gloves. She preferred sleeveless shirts and occasionally used black swimwear to achieve the same look, but the Time Patrol offered a variety of form-fitting clothing that was more comfortable and less restrictive than the materials from her own era. She had settled on what they called the "Pilot Suit", a skin-tight bodysuit with short sleeves and no legs. She was worried about the tight sleeves, but the material seemed to move with her body like a second skin, and it was durable enough to withstand the rigors of combat. The yellow piping on the torso also gave it some character, and wedgies never seemed to be an issue.
"I should really spend some more time in the shops," Luffa said to herself as she secured the next bandage. "Maybe rethink my whole look. They had some cute jackets. The Frieza uniforms aren't so great, but Kakarot's brother looked pretty sharp in his, so that might be worth a try. Mmmph…"
The next sore she covered stung as she tightened the knot, and she paused to wince at the pain.
"Let's be honest with ourselves," she said, gasping for breath as she gathered herself up to lean on the inside of the culvert. "I'm only talking about clothes because I feel like I'm gonna pass out if I don't keep active. And I'm really, really tired of being a Super Saiyan right now, but I can't turn it off or I'll lose this fight for sure."
She punched the inside of the culvert in frustration, but not with anything close to her full strength, for fear of giving away her presence to Goku.
"And I have to keep hiding my power, which would be a lot easier if I wasn't putting out so much of it right now, but I can't power down, so this is where we're at."
Carefully, Luffa steadied herself on her good leg, then gently eased her weight onto the bad one. She screwed her eyes shut and stifled a yelp. Undaunted, she started bending her left knee to test its flexibility, and began to regret that decision as well.
"Kakarot's out there looking for me, and he's going to find me, so I need to be ready for him when he does, but I have no idea how to deal with him, which is why I'm talking to myself about clothes shopping instead. How about a black jacket and yellow tights? Should I get a hat? Hah! What am I saying? I'm not a hat kind of lady."
Part of her just wanted to power up, reveal her position and take her chances. It was becoming clear that the next exchange would decide the outcome of the fight, and she was too frazzled to think of a way to secure a victory. Maybe it was better to just slug it out with Goku and let the chips fall where they may.
And yet, she couldn't feel entirely satisfied, not unless she had done everything she could to improve her chances. Her body was still getting stronger, although the gains were beginning to level off. Luffa didn't know if she was approaching her limit or if the damage she had sustained was weakening the effect. Still, she was certain her next encounter with Goku would be more productive than the last.
It still wouldn't matter, though, unless she had something special to use against him. It needed to be a close-range ki attack. Trading blows with a Super Saiyan 3 was too dangerous, and her signature attack, the Vengeance Cannon, was difficult to deploy in close quarters. The intensity and precision of the Vengeance Cannon was terrific, but Goku's speed and power made it too easy for him to dodge or deflect.
"I need something quick," Luffa said, "but it also has to be strong enough to hurt him… dammit, I'd need something I can charge up, but without him figuring out where it'll come from."
She tried shifting her weight to her left leg, and the pain reminded her of another key detail. "It's gotta be something I can do without exposing my leg to a counterattack," she added. "Hell… why don't I just make it knock Kakarot unconscious and cook me a steak dinner while I'm at it? This is hopeless…"
It was not hopeless, she reminded herself. She looked at the end of her tail, which she had always done in times of trouble, to remind herself of the great effort she had gone to as a childhood in order to overcome its innate weakness. It meant more to her when she was younger; by now it was more a reflex in response to hardship. And yet, this time, Luffa found it very reassuring. The fur on her tail, normally brown, now glowed a harsh yellow as she held it in her hand. It was the most vulnerable part of a Saiyan's body, and such a liability that it was imperative for every Saiyan to address it. Some trained their tails as Luffa had done, while others simply protected them, and most simply removed the tails altogether.
But Luffa had done more than overcome her weakness. She had turned her tail into a dangerous weapon. The best strike she had landed on Super Saiyan 3 Goku was when she whipped her tail against his right shoulder. He might have recovered by now, but the last time she saw him, he was still favoring that arm, even performing the Kamehameha with one hand just to avoid relying on it.
"He'd see it coming if I tried that again," Luffa muttered as she contemplated the golden fur. "But so what? The point is, I nailed him with that and I was just making it up as I went along. He's not invincible. I don't care how jacked up he can make himself. I can still beat him."
And with that settled, Luffa calmed herself and concentrated herself to the problem.
The trail was faint, but Goku had still managed to follow it. The traces of his one-handed Kamehameha still hung in the air, carving a straight line through the sky at a tangent to the planet's curvature. At a certain point, Luffa would have had to drop clear of the beam or she would be carried into the vacuum of space. As Goku approached this point of no return, he found what he was looking for directly below.
The ground looked like farmland. Goku didn't know much about the Tuffle Planet except that it was wished into existence using the Dragon Balls. Someone in this time fragment had asked for a recreation of Planet Vegeta in the Earth's Solar System, and so it came to pass. Only the planet was wished for, not the people, and so it was like a snapshot of the real Planet Vegeta in some moment of time.
"Hnnh. I never figured the Saiyans for farmers," Goku said as he looked over the rows of crops. He saw what looked like a futuristic tractor nearby, and was reminded of his own tractor back home. "King Kai said they took this planet from the Tuffles, so maybe this was a Tuffle farm instead."
There was a sharp, high-pitched hiss in the air as Goku approached the tractor at super speed. An observer might have mistaken this for his Instant Transmission, but he had simply moved faster than most eyes could follow. The seat behind the controls looked similar to his own tractor back home, but there was a gap in the middle of the seat back, the sort of thing an Earthling tractor wouldn't necessarily have, but it would be very handy for someone with a tail.
The thought of it reassured him. Maybe it was still a Tuffle's tractor after all, but he liked the idea of a Saiyan tilling the soil on Planet Vegeta. For all the evil things his people had done, perhaps they hadn't all been as wicked as his brother Raditz had insisted. Luffa had proven it. The Saiyans weren't cruel by nature. Some, like Raditz, had simply embraced cruelty as an inescapable condition. But that didn't make it an absolute truth.
Luffa had been here a short time ago. She had taken great effort to conceal her ki, but she needed to use at least some of it to land without hurting herself or leaving a crater in the ground. And so there was a faint trace of her presence, but not enough to indicate a direction to follow.
He envied the technique she had used against him earlier. She had called it "Golden Duster", and it involved scattering tiny ki particles around like dust or smoke, and letting them get everywhere. The idea had confused Goku at first, but it slowly dawned on him that it could be used to track down an opponent who was suppressing their own power. It was almost like the opposite of his Instant Transmission. Instead of locking on to his opponent's ki and teleporting to where they were, Luffa's Golden Duster allowed her to find her opponent by locking on to the one place her own ki was not.
"It probably took her a while to master that ability, though," Goku said. "And I just don't have time for that!"
Frustration was beginning to set in, and Goku calmed himself and tried to focus on the skills he had, rather than the ones he didn't. The restless feeling of Super Saiyan 3 was a problem, but it didn't interfere with his memory. He thought back, and found himself reminded of one of his first exercises while training with Master Roshi.
The Turtle Hermit had marked a stone and threw it into the forest. He then instructed Goku and Krillin to search for the stone, and warned them that only the boy who found the stone would get dinner that night.
The task had seemed completely arbitrary. Later in life, Krillin had told Goku that he had tried to cheat by marking a second stone and trying to pass it off as the first, but Master Roshi was too shrewd to accept the forgery. Indeed, even the stakes of the contest were unfair. Goku had gone to bed hungry that night, but Krillin caught food poisoning from the meal.
"Besides," Goku said to himself with a chuckle, "Actually finding the stone was pretty easy for me. Krillin tricked me out of it, but all I had to do was track Master Roshi's scent from where he'd touched it. I guess the old timer hadn't counted on having a Saiyan student, but I didn't know it myself. Hey… wait a minute…"
Goku's sense of smell was as sharp today as it had been as a child. He didn't use it as much because his ki senses we so much sharper, and much more useful in battle. Even when it was difficult to sense ki, Goku relied on the subtle shifts in air currents for guidance.
But all of Luffa's tricks to hide her energy were useless when it came to scent. And unless she had found a shower and a change of clothes on the Tuffle Planet, then she still reeked of blood and sweat. And on a planet with no people, the odor was bound to stand out.
Goku sniffed at the air, and caught her scent. It wasn't strong, but it gave him a start. He floated through the air, continuing to sniff around until he had a general sense of which way she had gone. Then he noticed another scent that narrowed things down even more.
Water.
With a confident smirk, he launched himself into the air, his aura knocking over the tractor in the process.
Luffa sensed his approach, but what she did not expect was the dramatic entrance. From the cover of the culvert, she could see him floating there. The sun had set over this part of the planet, and Goku glowed like a yellow star against the darkening scarlet. He had found her, but he wasn't attacking.
"What the hell is he waiting for?" Luffa started to ask, and then the answer suddenly presented itself.
"Kiai!" Goku shouted, loud enough for her to hear it from below. He threw out his hands, and suddenly a tremendous wind picked up, one strong enough to strip topsoil from the ground.
Luffa withdrew into the culvert and waited for the wind to die down. Was he trying to flush her out? She wasn't sure she was ready to face him, but there was little use in stalling… unless it kept him guessing.
But as she weighed her options, Luffa soon found that she had none. She sensed him firing a ki blast into the ground, and before she could wonder why, she felt its energy spreading out across the area, growing more and more volatile until--
The explosion tore the entire landscape apart. Dirt, water, the culvert, roads, unoccupied vehicles, they all went flying into the air in a blast of golden light. And as Luffa emerged from the chaos, she found Son Goku there waiting for her.
"I didn't think you'd find me this quickly," Luffa said.
"You didn't make it easy," Goku said. "But while I was sniffing you out, I found a freshwater source, and I figured you might have found it too. Looks like I was right."
"Sniff? But how--? Of course, the whole planet's deserted!" Luffa grumbled. "You're something else, Kakarot. Too bad it has to end here."
"You've got nowhere left to run, Luffa," Goku said. "You seem stronger than before, but it's not enough to tip the scales, and this time I made sure to clear any traps you might have had waiting for me around here."
"So that's why you made all that ruckus down there," Luffa said as she glanced down at the destruction below. "You were trying to kick up enough debris to detonate any of my ki ghosts. I can still make more, you know."
Goku nodded. "Sure, and you can make more of that dust to throw off my Instant Transmission too." His eyes narrowed as he smiled confidently. "But you know, I think you'll be a little too busy for any of that. Here. Let me show you."
He was attacking her before she even realized he had moved. One moment he was talking, and in the next she saw his fist headed straight for her. She couldn't dodge it, so instead she rolled with it, backing away just quickly enough to lessen the impact as it connected. It was still enough to send her reeling through the air, and this was only the beginning of her problems.
Goku followed up with a heavy barrage of ki blasts, and Luffa could only avoid a few of them. The rest knocked her around as she fell from the sky. She could not recover until she reached the ground, where she managed a three-point landing. She looked up to find him, only to discover that he was only a short distance away, descending upon her with a divekick.
With barely enough time to react, Luffa leaped away, leaving Goku to drive his foot into the ground, shattering the sod beneath his boot. Luffa fired on him as she backed away, but he easily swatted her ki blasts aside, and flew after her.
He was even more aggressive than Luffa had expected, and she suspected that he was pushing his Super Saiyan 3 form even harder than before in an attempt to finish her off before it was too late. The tactical situation was the same, just more time-sensitive than ever before.
Her ki attacks were completely useless, so Luffa stopped using them and focused on charging her power for the inevitable finale. Goku would catch up to her sooner or later, and then she needed to put everything she could into that close-quarters fighting. Everything else was irrelevant.
As Goku pursued her, she flew in erratic patterns to frustrate his efforts to shoot her down. When he caught up to her, she would seem to indulge him in hand-to-hand combat, but instead grab at his arms and legs to go for jointlocks, only to move away before she could truly lock them in. It was far less aggressive than her usual style, but it bought her time and threw Goku off his game.
When he caught up to her next, he had gotten wise to her tactics, and it was harder to escape. This time, when he went for a heavy punch, she countered it with a double-axehandle to deflect his arm. He managed to hit her in the back with his right arm, but he couldn't put as much force into it as Luffa had expected. The attack she had landed earlier was still bothering him, it seemed.
She swung out her tail, hoping to startle him with it, and he kicked her in the side to keep her away. It hurt, but she smiled anyway. He was worried about taking another hit with her tail. Good, she thought. He should be.
Luffa was running out of tricks, so she did the unexpected and flew straight at him to attack. This puzzled Goku enough that he side-stepped her charge and let her pass by. He probably knew it was a bluff, but decided it wasn't worth the risk. He may have been right. Luffa had bought herself a few more moments, but she didn't know that it gained her enough to matter.
Then, at last, the moment of truth. Unable to return fire, Luffa found herself boxed in between two large rock formations, with Goku coming from above. She couldn't move to the sides and her back was against the planet itself, so there was nothing left to do but slug it out with him.
Finally.
Luffa stood her ground and was satisfied to find that Goku's right elbow didn't hurt as much as she expected. He was saving his left for the final blow, and that meant she could hold out a little longer. His Super Saiyan 3 form was as strong as ever, but the strength she had gained up to this point was helping her bear up to it. She could only avoid some of his strikes, but she did what she could to protect her left leg, and kept threatening to target his left arm with her tail, so as to keep that weapon at bay.
She could see it in his eyes. The fatigue, the weariness, but only at the edges of a fiery determination. He wanted to fight on, but he knew he was close the end of his rope.
She saw her own reflection in his eyes, and recognized the same weariness in her own expression.
His boots touched the ground and she resented him for the luxury. Luffa had to levitate just to stay mobile, and it was a careful balancing act to keep her bad leg from dragging along the ground. A chop from Goku to her ribs made her lose focus and she cried out when she accidentally put her weight on her left side. She let the pain fuel her, and retaliated with a rapid series of blows to his chest. It barely slowed him down, but it surprised him a little, and the look on his face was enough to salve her pride for a moment.
Luffa tried to circle around him, away from the left arm that she knew would eventually come down hard upon her. But Goku wouldn't allow it, and he had the sheer might to keep her in the center of his advance. There was nothing else to be done. Resigning herself to the end, she faked him out by gesturing to his right, then moving toward his left instead. As she did this, she raised her tail, and prepared to strike.
There was nothing subtle about her improvised technique. A green glow began to appear all over her body, tinging the golden light of her aura. The end of her tail, however, shone a brilliant crimson, and while she was able to keep it concealed behind her back, she was under no illusions about keeping Goku from noticing it. As he turned to defend his left flank, she brought up the tip of her tail, and drove it toward his chest like a scorpion stinging its prey.
Goku caught it in both hands, less than a centimeter from his heart. Luffa struggled, but to no avail. He had secured his grip, and there was nothing she could do to pull free.
It was just as she had planned it.
Luffa threw out her hands and shut her eyes.
"Lunatic Pulse!" she screamed, and the green glow in the rest of her body suddenly intensified. It moved out ahead of her, like a spectre floating out in front of her body, and then it suddenly exploded, like a shaped charge designed to direct its entire force in one direction.
Goku released her tail with his left hand in an effort to block this, but the attack was too widespread for him to dodge or avoid. Luffa had only been inches away from him, and this was no localized ki blast. It had fired from her entire body all at once. The only part she hadn't applied to the attack was her tail, which she had used as a diversion.
In principle, the Lunatic Pulse was supposed to direct all its offensive power at the target, sparing the user. In practice, Luffa had only invented the thing a few minutes ago, and she discovered the recoil of the technique was substantial. She had charged the ki into her own circulatory system to make it launch from her entire body all at once. The drawbacks of such a stunt were now very apparent. As the Lunatic Pulse engulfed Goku in green fire, she felt like her blood had turned into hot magma. When Goku staggered back, his right hand let go of her tail, and she stumbled away from him in a dazed stupor.
For a moment, both Super Saiyans were held at bay. Luffa watched Goku with a detached satisfaction. Gradually, she recovered from the shock of it all, but found that she couldn't capitalize on her advantage. The effects of the Pulse began to fade, and Goku was still reeling from it, but he was still on his feet, and still in his Super Saiyan 3 form. She had to attack him now, but she couldn't get to him in time. She was on the ground now, her levitation broken from the effort of deploying the Lunatic Pulse, and she could only stand on her right leg. And just as she managed to get herself airborne again, she saw Goku moving toward her.
He was still a Super Saiyan 3.
Despite everything, he still had enough stamina left to maintain the form. He wasn't moving as quickly, but then again, he really didn't need to. As he advanced toward Luffa, he raised his left hand and curled it into a fist.
Luffa winced as she brought up her own arms to fight back. She put her right leg forward, and raised her tail just below her right elbow. That was when she finally noticed it.
The fur on her tail was still glowing yellow, but not steadily. Instead, it flashed and faded, turning dark brown and then flaring up again like a defective light fixture.
Her Super Saiyan form was failing.
She began to panic, desperately trying to force her body to cooperate, but there was nothing to be done. She felt like a drowning rat struggling in vain for air that was simply not available. And Goku still moved toward her.
With labored breath, he drew back his fist, and punched her as hard as he could.

i'm ngl i will be honest. i think one of the most disappointing developments in modern db lore/super is the whitewashing of the saiyans. lemme explain
like if you dont know, dragon ball as a whole is a parody of the chinese epic journey to the west, with son goku BEING sun wukong, but other saiyan characters being given sun wukong's characteristics—such as z broly, whose gold crown is a direct reference to sun wukong's golden headband, which also suppressed his power. the iconic saiyan battle armor is abstracted from samurai armor. so like, it’s pretty safe to say that goku & the rest of the saiyans are coded to be east asian.
it's also important to point out their cultural origin backstory as it was introduced in og dbz filler & how it's presented. in the manga you don't really see any depiction, but you actually get to see the story of the saiyans recounted, and to me, the kind of "uncivilized, barbaric society (the saiyans) invades & destroys peaceful, technologically advanced society (the tuffles)" narrative told alongside the literally racist treatment vegeta, nappa, & raditz received from freeza & other freeza force members in paralleled a lot of the irl historical racist rhetoric perpetuated against a majority of indigenous groups around the world. and there could have been something really interesting done with that, because a lot of what you heard about the saiyans came from word of mouth decades after their planet's destruction!
unfortunately, that potential for nuance wasn't explored much further by both the franchise and mainstream fanon, which was fine ig. though when i was first getting into DB and looking at a lot of fanmade content, i would encounter stuff like "spartan saiyan AUs!!" or saiyans drawn in roman armor, which even back then would make me roll my eyes considering... yknow, lmao. like c'mon, other 'war-like' societies exist, especially outside of europe. the battle armor is based off of samurai armor for a reason.
but i guess that perception of the saiyans became so popular that when super began to be produced, they not only doubled-down on saiyans being an inherently 'evil' race, but with the introduction of the universe 6 saiyans, started kinda.... revising the cultural inspiration of the saiyans?? like cabba's saiyan armor really is essentially inspired by roman leather armor, and so is the armor the main character, Shallot, from DB Legends, as well as saiyan royalty adopting european royal naming conventions... which is literally so strange to me. what do you mean vegeta the fourth
idk it's just something so strange to do as a japanese franchise inspired by a chinese folk epic, but it is what it is at this point 😔

You mentioned Sweipers in at least one previous post as wolf thieves, do you have any more info on them? I know the main focus is the sento saiyans, (and I do adore the sento saiyans, I’m so glad someone is exploring the animal side of Saiyans that is so frequently ignored) but I always find myself fascinated by side groups that aren’t focused on much in media, and I especially like animal people and thieves
I appreciate that, thanks!
I'll take what I wrote in my doc that's still cooking and paste it here. Sweipers you can say are like this universe's "Tuffles" but I put this in quotations because Sweipers were on Planet Sento first as the only sentient beings before the Ancestor Saiyans were warped there.
Sweipers are very territorial so they don't like for another species to just come and roam about. There's a side-story with them too and how the Sweiper Chief initiates the generational feud between Sentos and Sweipers.
In this case, Sento Saiyans aren't the aggressors but they hold their defense to any attack and don't fight unless provoked or under circumstances where they have no choice. Outside of Orran however who does elect on fully killing them vs knocking them out like the rest do. But no one sees him do it, he's just that good at cleanup work. The Sweiper Chief's granddaughter has an undying hatred for the Sento Saiyans that's inherited. She doesn't like the fact that her people still somewhat rely on Sentos for materials, goods, and food in abundance but thats IF they can pull off their ambush raids well. She also hates Orran because she knows he's the one who kills the Sweipers he encounters but she can't figure out how he always knows where they are all the time. She thinks it's a sixth sense when it's really his vision.

GT Spoilers
nah but if i can be real the thing(s) i find so compelling about Baby is that a) i can’t even be mad at him about his motivation, the Tuffles are entirely right to want vengeance upon Saiyans and to make a super weapon to enact that vengeance b) obviously we get him in the end but if not for DB-typical hijinks i am so sure that Baby would have just been ruler of Earth + Planet Vegeta c) like…. He basically has won for a good little while there in a way that doesn’t involve destroying everyone but rather making them mind slaves and in a lot of ways that’s far worse
i also just really like the idea of a body snatching entity controlling an entire world full of people and, in the event of succeeding, being left to go… now what? I got what I wanted. What’s left to do? And then maybe a host body or several die and they’re all worthless meat puppets anyway but maybe he particularly liked that one and is frustrated that while he can control many things he can’t control frangible mortal bodies’ annoying habit of expiring and
yeah in conclusion i like Baby

Okay an AU where Yōji's a twin of Vegeta though still technically an advanced parasitic being with knowledge of the Tuffles
An AU where Yōji is STILL a parasitic being but was made well before the destruction of planet Vegeta and was introduced as the Tuffle prince who's very clearly half Tuffle half Sayin and (keeping in line with some headcanons) is deemed "malleable" by Cold and ia conveniently off the planet in essence as a bargain chip to keep the remaining Tuffles and half Tuffles loyal. (Loads of head cannons here)
Another AU where Yōji just rocks up on earth and is shocked and impressed at how tamed the remaining Sayians are and after having a little go at Vegeta just... Casually settles down being more reasonable than he canonically is and grows himself a clone of Vegeta to inhabit (I WANT MY SUPER BABY 2 CAKE AND TO EAT IT TO DAMNIT) and is rather willing to participate in the shenanigans of Super
All of those are ideas I'm throwing around to write some Cooler/Yōji and some Yōji/Gammas
I SWEAR I WANT TO WRITE SOME YŌJI/GAMMAS BECAUSE I CAN SEE A FUN DYNAMIC WITH A LESS INHERENTLY HOSTILE YŌJI INTERACTION WITH THEM OKAY?!
