i see your point about him being naked but I raise you: he lives in the jungle. with snakes. and poisonous toads. and sharp things that can so easily puncture human skin, leathery and sun-hardened as it may be. and he has so very chompable genitals according to literally every carnivore in Africa.
he has opposable thumbs and steve is always the smartest man in the room (unless he decides to be a ditzy dumb blonde for fun), and we did see tarzan use simple tools like a spear in the disney movie, so it's not like steve can't discover tool use. i think he would have figured out how to make basic clothing to protect his body -- like probably just crude shoes and leg and arm wraps and the aforementioned loincloth out of probably just strips of animal hide, which would be even more crudely prepared. otherwise his skin would get all cut up by thorns and branches and shit and anything with teeth and a hankering for the other other white meat can see it is nibble-able. there's definitely no reason for him to be modest about his body tho, basic coverings would just be practical.
i had an almost identical conversation to this once upon a time when I was writing big god and working with a friend to make art for it; they initially drew steve as being naked and I had to go "well actually have you considered sharp rocks and thorns being everywhere" so they gave him crude pants and shoes
okay hear me out
stucky in a tarzan story.
okay but wait wait hold on!! starring as jane whatever her last name is, we have bucky. complete palette and genderswap. he's got his fragile old granny with him bc she wants to die on a safari. he is also too old and additionally too fat to be on a safari but there he is sweating his ass off in the African jungle. and then steve is tarzan.
but he's pre-serum.
ehh? ehh??!!

Marvel on the Big (and Small) Screen
2021 was the year Marvel tried its hand at television in a way we hadn’t really seen before. The first few episodes of WandaVision seemed a little dicey, but that silly sitcom eventually transformed into something lore-filled and foreboding that would pave the way for MCU TV shows and films to come. Speculation is Tumblr’s bread and butter, but the miniseries turned regular fans with theories and text posts into full-blown detectives. You knew Agnes was Agatha Harkness before she even knew herself, but you loved her anyway. She was Tumblr’s third favorite WandaVision character, right behind the titular characters. Pretty impressive for an ancient, morally grey sorceress.
The dust had barely settled before The Falcon and the Winter Soldier dropped. The return of Bucky lit Tumblr up in the way only James Buchanan Barnes can. This time, his Captain America was an entirely different man but no less a best friend or lover, depending on which Sambucky fics you’re reading. But Sam Wilson’s transition to his new role as the first Black Captain America wasn’t a smooth one. This series tackled a lot of real-world issues like racism and morality, but the discussion wasn’t limited to plot alone. When hatred for temporary Cap John Walker became real-world hatred for actor Wyatt Russell, fans took to the tags to combat the harassment, urging each other to remember that fiction is fiction. A text post by @thecinematicalgorithm says it best: John Walker is a good soldier, but Sam Wilson is a good man, and that’s why the shield was always meant to be his.
Then came Loki and his Nexus Event. Loki Laufeyson has and always will be an enigma, and his miniseries was no different. Anticipation started last December after we got our first glimpse of the series and it was so strong, the #loki series made its first appearance in Week in Review. In June, the first episode finally dropped, and the sleuthing began. You came together to decipher a very complicated title sequence and ponder the repercussions of tampering with time. The show’s impact is still rippling all around us, its effects already taking shape in upcoming Marvel projects. Chatter around Loki’s love life also grew to an all-time high, and the confirmation of bisexual Loki as canon was a huge win for us all. His affection for Mobius and Sylvie leaped off the screen and into chapters of fanfiction. Lokius went on to become the 6th most popular ship on Tumblr this year with a stunning 411% more engagements than Sylki. Loki ended this year as Tumblr’s favorite Marvel series with 78.8% more engagements than runner-up The Falcon and the Winter Soldier—it was so popular, in fact, that you made TOMBLR happen, calling the God of Mischief himself to answer your questions.
If Loki and the multiverse tore us apart, then Shang-Chi pieced us back together again. The release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was an incredible piece of history we all got to be a part of, but important to none more than the Asian-American community. Fans felt seen—their family traditions and cultures were reflected on screen in a way we don’t often see in Hollywood. Shang-Chi also gave us our first taste of Tony Leung in American cinema after decades of legendary performances in Asia. But fans also noticed the film’s shortcomings. The English subtitles often failed to do the translations justice in situations where their actual sentiment held more meaning to native Mandarin speakers. Those conversations took shape in a really meaningful way and in high volume—Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings topped our Movies list three weeks in a row and would continue to be a major topic of discussion in the weeks following. Some of you even got the chance to ask Simu Liu about his own connections to the film and his character during his Answer Time—portraying a fully-fleshed out, three-dimensional Asian-American character straddling the line between two vastly different cultures is something he’s really proud of, and something that resonated with so many of us.
In an age of instant gratification, Marvel reminded a lot of us of how TV used to work and gave us something new to look forward to every week. They introduced an inclusive, new wave of childhood heroes and pushed the boundaries of your typical box office hit. In this post, we focused on the Marvel releases you engaged with the most here on Tumblr, but this is in no way an exhaustive list of the MCU timeline in 2021. You loved Black Widow—probably Yelena more than the rest—and reimagined the Marvel Universe each week with What If…? We can’t even begin to imagine what next year will bring, but we know we’re not ready.

Upcoming Marvel Movie Releases: Complete MCU Phase 4 Schedule
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
We’ve got everything you need to know about the upcoming Marvel movie(and TV!) schedule all in one place! The Marvel Cinematic Universe plan now stretches all the way to 2023 (and beyond). The amazing thing is, it’s even more ambitious than we anticipated, with new movies getting announced all the time. It looks like even something on the massive scale of Avengers: Endgame was only the beginning. How can anything ever be bigger than that crazy Avengers: Endgame finale?
Well, it looks like we’re going to find out…eventually.
We’ve compiled as much information as we can find on every Marvel movie coming out in the next few years in a handy release calendar for you. This is where you can check out all the details on Marvel Phase 4 and beyond. You probably want to know a little more about the future of the MCU and all the other Marvel movies in development. Well, we’ve got you covered! However, be advised, almost every single MCU Phase 4 date has recently shifted because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic which is wreaking havoc with every industry in the world, so update your calendars accordingly!
These dates have already shifted several times recently, and the most recent changes affect Black Widow, Eternals, and Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Don’t be surprised if they continue to move as things develop with the pandemic, but hopefully by the time Black Widow is ready to come out, we’ll have reached the end of this nonsense.
WandaVision
release date: Jan. 15, 2021
Yes, technically this isn’t a movie release, but with all of the release date changes, and the fact that it has been over a year since the last actual MCU release, we’ll take the good stuff where we can get it. And make no mistake, WandaVision very much appears to be the good stuff.
Ever wonder what happened to Wanda after she went all Scarlet Witch on Thanos in Avengers: Endgame? Well, you’re gonna find out in WandaVision, which appears to depict a grief-riddled Wanda dealing with the death of Vision in less than healthy ways.
Elizabeth Olsen is, of course, back as Wanda, and so is Paul Bettany as the Vision. This show is going to have serious ties to the MCU, with elements that will be important for Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness and Captain Marvel 2 having prominent roles. The trailer is packed with MCU strangeness, which we wrote about here.
WandaVision is the first of a number of MCU focused shows coming to Disney+ over the next year. 2021 will then (hopefully) bring us Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki. Since these will also be vital to the future of the MCU, we’ll add them to this calendar as they get release windows and/or trailers get released.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
release date: March 19, 2021
“The legacy of that shield is complicated.”
Yes, it is. And we’re going to find out just how complicated when Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes reckon with the legacy of Captain America in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+. Here’s the official synopsis for the series…
“Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) team up in a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patiencein Marvel Studios’ The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”
Yes, like WandaVision, this isn’t a theatrical release, but also like that show, this is far too important to the future of the MCU to ignore.
Morbius
Release Date: March 19, 2021
Spider-Man spinoff Morbius is Sony’s next big Marvel release, and it’ll officially be the first spinoff to properly connect to the MCU.
Safe House‘s Daniel Espinosa directs from a script by Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway, as former Joker Jared Leto plays the anti-hero biochemist who finds a cure for his rare blood disease by using vampire bat blood. As you can imagine, there are consequences: he turns into a living vampire, for one.
Um…don’t be surprised if this one ends up moving off this date at some point at the rate we’re going.
Read more about the character of Michael Morbius here, and find everything you need to know about his upcoming movie, right here.
Black Widow
Release Date: May 7, 2021
The Black Widow movie was heading for a May 1, 2020 release before the coronavirus outbreak, but Disney and Marvel have decided to delay it until the industry’s infrastructure is back to some semblance of normal. First they bumped it to November, but now we have to wait almost a full year from that originally scheduled date before we see Natasha and friends. Disney and Marvel Studios seem absolutely committed to keeping Natasha on a theatrical release rather than sending her to Disney+.
Cate Shortland directed the film, and Scarlett Johansson stars, with Florence Pugh and David Harbour alongside her. One of the movie’s villains is Taskmaster, and we wrote a little bit more about him right here.
Natasha Romanoff will get a prequel movie of sorts here, as we catch up with Widow around the events of Captain America: Civil War. Will the plot affect her character’s ultimate fate in Endgame? Do not count on it.
We have more information on the Black Widow movie right here.
Loki
release date: May 2021
Tom Hiddleston will reprise his most famous role, as Loki finds himself on a heist through time and space after the events of Avengers: Endgame! Oh, and based on this trailer, there’s all kinds of weirdness awaiting, including the return of Heimdall, some other Asgardian hijinks, and…Loki running for President!
Look, he couldn’t possibly do a worse job than the guy who’s been there for the last four years so…Vote Loki!
Venom: Let There Be Carnage
Release Date: June 25, 2021
Andy Serkis (Mowgli) steps behind the camera for Venom 2, which now boasts the catchy title of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, replacing Ruben Fleischer as director this time around. The first film, buoyed by a terrific showing at the Chinese box office, made an absolute ton of money, despite being released to mostly scathing reviews.
Venom 2 will follow up Sony’s 2018 Spider-Man-less spinoff film, but will likely be more connected to the MCU this time around, thanks to a renewed deal between the company and its Marvel Studios partners. Tom Hardy will return as Eddie Brock, of course, and as you can probably guess from that title, he’ll be facing off against Woody Harrelson’s villain, Cletus Kasady aka Carnage!
This one was originally tentatively scheduled for October, 2020, but has been shuffled away for the moment as studios continue to move release dates around because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Read everything else you need to know about Venom 2.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
Release date: July 9, 2021
Simu Liu has been cast as the titular Shang-Chi and Tony Leung as The Mandarin (hey, that name sounds familiar! But this time, we’re getting the real Mandarin on screen). Destin Daniel Cretton is directing from a script by Dave Callaham. Given its “Ten Rings” title, Shang-Chi should be steeped in Marvel lore!
This has been delayed twice. Let’s hope that’s the end of it. At least it has resumed production!
We have more info on the Shang-Chi movie right here.
The Eternals
Release Date: Nov. 5, 2021
The Eternals has completed principal photography and is on post-production. Chloe Zhao is directing from a script by Matthew and Ryan Firpo.
The cast features Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Angelina Jolie as Thena, Gemma Chan as Sersi, and Kit Harrington as Dane Whitman, the Black Knight.
This one was another victim of the release date shuffle, having moved from February of 2021 to November of that year. We’ll get to see Jack Kirby‘s wildest creations eventually!
You can read more about The Eternals movie right here.
Spider-Man 3
Release Date: Dec. 17, 2021
While the next Spider-Man movie doesn’t have a title yet, it’s happening, and the best news of all is that it’s happening in the MCU! Marvel and Sony solved their differences, good sense prevailed, and Tom Holland’s Peter Parker will remain a vital part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This one, well…this might be a live action Spider-Verse movie from the sound of it. Jamie Foxx will reprise his role as Electro from the maligned Amazing Spider-Man films and Alfred Molina will return from the Raimi era as Doctor Octopus. Wait. Are they trying to make this a multiversal Sinister Six movie? Because…we could be down for that.
Thor: Love and Thunder
Release Date: Feb. 11, 2022
Taika Waititi, who gave us the delightful Thor: Ragnarok, will return to write and direct. Chris Hemsworth will be back, but will it be as Thor? Natalie Portman is your new Thor (yes, you read that right, Jane Foster will wield the hammer…just as she did in the comics!). Christian Bale has also joined the cast as the terrifying Gorr the God Butcher.
We have more info on Thor: Love and Thunder right here.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Release Date: March 25, 2022
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness looks like it will open up the storytelling possibilities in the MCU like never before. And that’s just based on the name alone. Scott Derrickson was scheduled to direct, but has bowed out because of “creative differences” with Marvel. But the good news is that Marvel found a suitable replacement in none other than Sam Raimi, who of course has plenty of superhero experience thanks to his Spider-Man trilogy in the early 2000s!
This one has loads of connections to the wider MCU. Elizabeth Olsen will be here as Scarlet Witch, and the film will also connect to the untitled Spider-Man 3 and its own multiversal ambitions. There are also a few rumors doing the rounds that Jericho Drumm aka Brother Voodoo could be introduced in this sequel. We’ll keep an eye on that and update this if there’s any substance to them.
We have more information on Doctor Strange 2 right here.
Black Panther 2
Release Date: July 8, 2022
Black Panther 2 is still on Disney’s release schedule, despite the tragic, untimely death of star Chadwick Boseman. Marvel has made it official that they have no intention of recasting the role of T’Challa, which is absolutely the right move.
Ryan Coogler will return as director, but there are no other details currently available. We have more information on Black Panther 2 right here.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Sequel
Release Date: October 7, 2022
Is it technically an MCU movie? Nope. But with all the legal weirdness going on between Marvel and Sony, and this franchise’s very multiversal concept, who’s really to say that it ISN’T an MCU movie either, right? In any case, the sequel to the best Spider-Man movie of all time is coming in 2022 with Avatar: The Last Airbender mastermind Joaquim Dos Santos directing and David Callaham writing.
There’s also an “untitled Marvel movie” still technically scheduled for this date but…that is almost certainly not gonna happen now. Expect whatever that project was to move to one of these below dates or to some other currently unspecified date on the calendar.
Captain Marvel 2
Release date: November 11, 2022
WandaVision writer Megan McDonnell has been tapped to write the screenplay for Captain Marvel 2. You know what else is really cool? Candyman‘s Nia DaCosta will direct!
We have no idea where we’ll find Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) in the sequel to her hugely successful first standalone MCU entry. Will she be fighting to loosen her former Kree pals’ iron grip on a pre-Avengers galaxy? Or will the follow up film see her fighting for justice in the present?
Read more about Captain Marvel 2 here.
And then there are still some dates that Marvel has announced that they have yet to match projects to. Those dates are…
Feb. 17, 2023
May 5, 2023
July 28, 2023
Nov. 3, 2023
Some of those dates could very well be good fits for the following films…
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Peyton Reed will return to direct the third installment of the Ant-Man saga, perhaps the most unlikely trilogy in Marvel’s entire arsenal. Paul Rudd will return as Scott Lang, and you can almost certainly expect Evangeline Lilly to return as The Wasp and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
The villain of the film? That will be Kang the Conqueror, who will be played by Lovecraft Country‘s Jonathan Majors. The inclusion of Kang opens up all kinds of interesting possibilities for the MCU, and may even tease the arrival of the Fantastic Four down the line! We wrote more about those possibilities right here.
We’re also going to need fast confirmation on Michael Pena’s return as Luis, though. Luis is key…
This will probably slide in to one of those 2023 release dates above.
Blade
Well this one was a surprise. In 2019, Marvel announced that they will be rebooting the Blade franchise with Mahershala Ali playing the titular daywalker. Ali’s True Detective co-star – and former Blade villain – Stephen Dorff is excited to see what he can do with the character, and so are we.
We have more info on Blade here.
Deadpool 3
Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin will be the writing team tasked with bringing the Merc with a Mouth to the MCU. What a Deadpool 3 could look like in the interconnected Marvel Cinematic Universe is, of course, anybody’s guess, but if anyone can crack wise about the follies of this kind of corporate synergy, it’s Ryan Reynolds.
Fantastic Four
The MCU Fantastic Four movie is finally happening! Marvel’s first family will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a film directed by Jon Watts, who did such a wonderful job with the first two MCU Spider-Man movies. That’s all the information that’s out there at the moment, but as soon as we have more, we’ll update this.
We have our own theories on why Marvel went with the Fantastic Four before the X-Men, but that’s another story.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Avengers: Endgame left the team in an interesting place. We broke down some of the story possibilities right here.
After a tumultuous period which saw James Gunn fired and then rehired as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director, he will become the first Marvel director to ever complete a trilogy for the studio. However, Gunn can’t even begin filming Guardians 3 until he finishes production on The Suicide Squad for DC, as well as an HBO Max Peacemaker prequel. Once those projects are finished, he’s free to return to the MCU.
We have everything else you need to know about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 right here.
And as for those others? Well, we’re still waiting on word on where Deadpool 3 will fit since that is (finally) official, as well as movies to bring the X-Men into the MCU. Could any of those 2023 dates do the trick? It’s very possible! And this doesn’t even account for all of the other MCU Disney+ TV shows that don’t have release dates yet like She-Hulk, Moon Knight, Ironheart, Secret Invasion, Armor Wars, and more!
We’ll keep updating this with new information as it becomes available.

An up-to-date look at the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Tumblr media
Photo by Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images for Disney
Expect a lot of sequels.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe closed out its “Infinity Saga” last summer with the releases of Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home, which ended a 23-film cycle of big, ambitious, and thrilling storytelling. Despite what felt like a logical beginning, middle and end to its first few phases of films, Disney and Marvel have no plans to slow down anytime soon.
Captain America, Iron Man, and some of the other key Avengers from the last decade-plus are now set aside for characters stepping forward into bigger roles — such as Black Panther and Captain Marvel — and characters we have not seen in this iteration of films yet. With Disney’s merger with Fox, characters like the X-Men and Fantastic Four are on the way with Marvel Studios now having the rights to the majority of the storied comic company’s intellectual property. This comes after decades of heroes’ film rights being divided among several studios.
Here is the full list of projects that are currently in development for the next phases of the MCU.
Theatrical Releases
Black Widow (November 6, 2020)
There had been rumors for years that Scarlett Johansson would get her own solo film and now it is set to lead Marvel’s “Phase Four” as the first-post Infinity Saga movie. However, this film is set to take place between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. Other cast members include David Harbour, Rachel Weisz and Florence Pugh, among others. Taskmaster will be the villain in this movie, who is known for his ability to copy the powers of the heroes he is facing.
The Eternals (February 12, 2021)
Marvel is never afraid to throw something new and weird at its audience, and did so with massive success with the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. The Eternals is set to tell the story of a race of human-god aliens created by beings called Celestials that have lived on Earth for 7,000 years among us. The cast includes Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Angeline Jolie, Gemma Chan, Lauren Ridloff, Salma Hayek, Brian Tyree Henry, Lia McHugh, and Kit Harington, to name a few from the massive lineup. Chloé Zhao will helm the film.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (May 7, 2021)
The MCU has a way of existing as genre films inside of a superhero film packaging. To name a few examples, we have seen political thrillers (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) and heist films (Ant-Man), but now Marvel steps into its first kung fu-inspired take. Shang-Chi is a master of the martial arts and will be played by relative newcomer Simu Liu. We have actually heard of the Ten Rings before, as they were the terrorist organization introduced when Tony Stark was kidnapped in Iron Man. Then, we met its leader, The Mandarin, in Iron Man 3. Except we didn’t because that was a fake out. Tony Leung is set to play the “real” Mandarin and Awkwafina is also set for a role in the film, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton.
Untitled Spider-Man Sequel (November 5, 2021)
Things were dicey here for a bit with Disney and Sony, who owns Spider-Man’s film rights, having a contract dispute in the summer of 2019. However, both sides came to an agreement and Tom Holland’s Spidey is back on track with Zendaya also set to return and Jon Watts directing once again.
Thor: Love and Thunder (February 11, 2022)
Thor is one of the only original Avengers set to play a role in the next phase of films and both Chris Hemsworth and director Taika Waititi are set to return. Tessa Thompson will also return as Valkyrie and Natalie Portman is making her return to the role of Jane Foster in the film. Foster is set to become the female version of Thor in this next installment with Christian Bale making his MCU debut as the film’s villain, though we do not yet know who he is playing.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (March 25, 2022)
Doctor Strange’s solo outing was solid, but did not do a ton to movie the needle among MCU fans. That changed with the key role that he played in both Infinity War and Endgame and now he is back for another film centered around him. This time, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Strange will be joined by another Marvel hero in the form of Scarlet Witch, played by Elizabeth Olsen. Benedict Wong is set to return as Wong with Chiwetel Ejiofor also back to play Karl Mordo. The events of this film will be tied into the Scarlet Witch Disney+ series WandaVision (which we will discuss here a bit later). The film will be directed by Sam Raimi of the Evil Dead franchise and the 2000s Spider-Man films.
Black Panther II (May 6, 2022)
When Black Panther became the cultural phenomenon it was after coming out in February of 2018 — eventually earning a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars — it was only a matter of time before we got a sequel. Not much is known about the project other than Ryan Coogler returning to direct and the expectation is that the majority of the cast from the last film should return, as well. The rumor is that the sequel may feature Namor, who actually preceded Aquaman as the Atlantean/human hybrid character in pop culture.
Untitled Captain Marvel Sequel (July 8, 2022)
The only thing that is known about this film is that Brie Larson is set to reprise her role as the titular hero. Seeing as her solo film took place in the 90s and Endgame brought her into the present day, there is no shortage of possibilities for what her next outing might look like.
Unscheduled theatrical projects
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
After a brief brush with controversy over old tweets that saw James Gunn fired from the job of directing this movie, all sides came to an agreement and he was brought back. This is expected to close out the story thread of his iteration of the Guardians, but it is going to have to wait until he finishes work on DC’s The Suicide Squad, which he signed on to direct when he was originally fired by Marvel.
Untitled Ant-Man and The Wasp Sequel
A more recent addition to the upcoming slate of films with news of its development dropping in April 2020. Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly are expected to be back in their roles, and Peyton Reed will be back to direct after doing the last two films.
Blade
This was the surprise of all surprises when its development was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2019. Mahershala Ali will be playing the role after lobbying Marvel to bring back the character, and the Oscar winner reaching out was too good for the studio to pass up. That is all we know about this film for now, but it has fans of the vampire hunter excited to see what Ali and the studio can come up with.
Fantastic Four
It is only a matter of time before we get to see Marvel’s iconic foursome of heroes hit the screen again after the Disney-Fox merger went through. After a few “meh” outings in the mid-2000s and a putrid reboot attempt in 2015, the characters are back where they belong. All we know so far is that the studio is developing the project with no other details available at this time. Fans have been clamoring for the real-life couple of John Krasinski and Emily Blunt to play Reed Richards and Sue Storm, respectively. You can add my name to the list of people who would love to see that casting.
X-Men
We are probably far away from the X-Men making their debut in the MCU, which is not the worst thing in the world. Fox’s franchise ran for almost 20 years and it is going to take some time for people to cleanse their pallets of the Hugh Jackman/Patrick Stewart-era of characters. They are on the way, but it is going to take some time and they might be the last of these projects that we see on the screen.
Disney+ Shows
These will appear exclusively on the Disney+ streaming platform, but Marvel maintains they will have cinematic budgets and that everything will connect to the theatrical releases, so this is a brand new layer to the MCU.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (August 2020)
Now that Black Widow has been pushed to the fall, this is the next MCU property we are set to see. This series is set to follow Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) after the events of Endgame, where an old Captain America passed his shield and mantle on to Wilson. Daniel Brühl is set to return as Helmut Zemo of Civil War fame and Emily VanCamp returning as Sharon Carter. Wyatt Russell joins the cast as John Walker, the U.S. government created successor to Steve Rogers.
WandaVision (December 2020)
As we mentioned before, this series is set to lead into the events of the Doctor Strange sequel with Wanda Maximoff involved in a big way. Paul Bettany is also set to return as Vision, as it appears that Wanda has created an alternate reality where they can live together among the backdrop of sitcom-style settings from multiple decades (yeah, it’s going to get really dang weird). An adult version of Monica Rambeau, who was a child in Captain Marvel, is set to debut and be played by Teyonah Parris. Randall Park and Kat Dennings are going to return to the MCU in their roles of Jimmy Woo and Darcy Lewis, respectively.
Loki (Early 2021)
Loki stealing the Tesseract in an alternate timeline in Endgame screamed Disney+ series, and now Marvel is doing just that. The series will see Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as the God of Mischief as an alternate version of his 2012 self traveling back in time and altering history. Owen Wilson and Richard E. Grant are also set to join in some form or fashion.
What If...? (Mid-2021)
This is going to be an animated anthology series that explores how events of the MCU would have happened by changing different variables, a la if Peggy Carter was given the super soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers. The original actors from MCU films will return to reprise their roles in a voice acting capacity for the series, which will star Jeffrey Wright as The Watcher. A second season has already been greenlit, as well.
Hawkeye (2022)
A limited series is set to come for the bow-and-arrow wielder with Jeremy Renner reprising his role as Clint Barton, which would see him pass on his mantle of Hawkeye to Kate Bishop (reportedly to be portrayed by Hailee Steinfeld).
Ms. Marvel (2022)
Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel has been a recent character in the comics with rapidly growing popularity among fans. Not a whole lot is out there on the series other than Bisha K. Ali being hired as the head writer. It is also possible Ms. Marvel is introduced in Captain Marvel’s sequel.
Moon Knight (2022)
Moon Knight is Marvel’s answer to Batman, except he has a dissociative identity disorder. So ... that’s an interesting concept. In addition to his Disney+ series, Moon Knight will be appearing in future MCU films, as well.
She-Hulk (2022)
She-Hulk is set to revolve around Jennifer Walters, the cousin of Bruce Banner/Hulk who gains powers after receiving a blood transfusion from him. Walters is a skilled lawyer and has often appeared as representation to heroes and other enhanced beings over the years. Another ... interesting concept. Marvel is reportedly looking for an “Alison Brie-type” to play this character. The lead writer on the series is set to be Jessica Gao of Rick and Morty fame.

Every Marvel TV Series Coming To Disney+ | Screen Rant
Tumblr media
Here's every Marvel TV series coming to Disney+. While Avengers: Endgame was the end for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we'd come to know it, the MCU is going to get even bigger in Phase 4, at least in terms of its television output. Disney is launching its own streaming service, and Marvel is at the very heart of it.
Disney+ is the Mouse House's weapon in the streaming wars, designed to topple the competition with a mix of Disney (and now Fox's) enviable back catalog and big-budget original content, with TV shows from some of the biggest franchises like Star Wars and Pixar in the works. Key to this plan is the MCU. While Marvel has made TV shows before now, these will be under the banner of Marvel Studios, and as such are going to be more closely linked to Marvel movies.
Related: How Disney+ Will Make Money (Eventually)
Disney and Marvel clearly have big, long-term plans for the MCU Disney+ TV shows and how they can connect with the big screen offerings, and while they'll likely be making many more, these are the Marvel TV shows already confirmed for Disney+ so far.
Tumblr media
Set to be the first Disney+ MCU TV show, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will reunite its two titular characters - a.k.a. Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes - for a new mission, with both Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan onboard to reprise their roles from the MCU movies. Also returning are Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter and Daniel Brühl as Helmut Zemo, while Wyatt Russell is joining the cast as US Agent. Avengers: Endgame concluded with Falcon becoming the new Captain America, but it seems like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be playing around with that concept, hence them still having those names, and seeing Sam growing into the role. Kari Skogland will direct the six-episode series, which is slated for release in fall 2020.
Tumblr media
Although Vision was killed in Avengers: Infinity War, and didn't return in Avengers: Endgame, the character is still coming to Disney+ in the series WandaVision, which will once again pair up Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch with Paul Bettany's Vision. Other returning faces include Kat Dennings' Darcy Lewis and Randall Park's Jimmy Woo, while Teyonah Parris will play an adult version of Captain Marvel's Monica Rambeau. It takes place post-Endgame and also in the 1950s, with the biggest question right now about how exactly Vision is going to return (although the clue is likely in the title). With six episodes to be directed by Matt Shakman, WandaVision is going to be "half classic sitcom, half MCU spectacular." WandaVision is coming to Disney+ in spring 2021, curiously just before Scarlet Witch appears in Doctor Strange 2.
Tumblr media
Loki was the first TV series to be announced for Disney+, although it won't arrive until spring 2021. Loki has undergone a major transformation in the MCU, moving from being an outright villain to a more complex and at times heroic character, but the one we're getting in the Disney+ series is the Loki of old. The God of Mischief stole the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame, disappearing into his own branched reality, and that's where the Loki Disney+ series is going to be set, meaning it follows the version of the character who hasn't had such growth, and is instead still a fun bad guy. Kate Herron is directing the six-episode series, which is expected to follow the God of Mischief across a number of different time periods, with Tom Hiddleston the only confirmed cast member right now.

Tumblr media
An animated Marvel series that will put a different spin on the MCU we know, What If...? is based on the comic book series of the same name, and will depict alternate reality versions of some of the biggest MCU moments. There'll be a different scenario for each of the 23 movies that make up the Infinity Saga, including one where Hayley Atwell's Peggy Carter is given the Super Soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers, who instead gets the Marvel Zombies treatment. Just about every major MCU actor is returning for What If...?, from Samuel L. Jackson to Josh Brolin, while Jeffrey Wright has been cast as Uatu the Watcher, meaning he'll be the one collecting and telling all of these different stories. What If...? is slated to hit Disney+ in summer 2021.
Tumblr media
After Avengers: Endgame, Hawkeye is one of the few original Avengers with a viable future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, something that's going to be explored in his Disney+ series - although it's also going to be an opportunity for him to hang up the bow for good. Hawkeye will see Jeremy Renner reprise his role as Clint Barton, but he's going to have some company in the form of Kate Bishop, who he'll take under his wing and train up to be his replacement and, in Renner's words, "ultimately a better version" of Hawkeye. Bishop has yet to be cast, although there's plenty of time for that yet, with Hawkeye not set to land on Disney+ until fall 2021.
Tumblr media
As part of the many major Disney reveals at D23 Expo, Kevin Feige added more TV shows to the growing list of Disney+ series, including one based on Kamala Khan, a.k.a. Ms Marvel. Khan is a Pakistani American teenager who gains superpowers via Terrigenesis, granting her the ability to stretch and change shape, and who is, as the name suggests, a huge fan of Captain Marvel. Ms Marvel is a widely popular character who has been on the horizon for the MCU for some time now, and with Spider-Man leaving Marvel behind, Ms Marvel's introduction in Phase 4 is going to be well-timed. Bisha K. Ali will serve as showrunner on Ms Marvel, with the character also confirmed to be appearing in MCU movies at some point too (likely meaning Captain Marvel 2).
Tumblr media
Like with Ms Marvel, Moon Knight is another character Marvel fans have been wanting to see adapted to screen for a long time. Because he's a much darker, more violent character than most we've seen in the MCU movies, there had been a lot of talk about a Netflix series, before the Netflix MCU collapsed. It remains to be seen just how true to the source a Disney+ Moon Knight series is, given it'll have to be more family-friendly, but it's nonetheless exciting. Moon Knight is a vigilante with dissociative identity disorder, who can struggle to tell the difference between what's real and what isn't, and it'll be interesting to see how Disney tackles that.
Related: How Marvel Television Is Evolving & Improving In The 2020s
Tumblr media
The final Marvel series currently in the works for Disney+ is She-Hulk, which will revolve around Jennifer Walters. Walters was a highly skilled lawyer who, after an injury, received a blood transfusion from her cousin Bruce Banner, and in the process acquired a mild version of his Hulk condition. This gave her the ability to become just like the Hulk, except her intelligence remains intact. Given that Marvel has just done that with the actual Hulk in Avengers: Endgame, it'll be interesting to see how they approach She-Hulk on Disney+, but with Hulk's complicated rights issues then introducing She-Hulk makes it easier for them to tell Hulk solo stories, except using Walters instead of Banner. As with Ms. Marvel and Moon Knight, there's no word yet on when She-Hulk will be released on Disney+.

Here's how 'Black Panther' fits into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (no spoilers)
Tumblr media

Black Panther pushes the Marvel Cinematic Universe into exciting new territory — specifically the vibranium-rich African nation of Wakanda, whose existence was first hinted at way back in Iron Man 2, but haven’t spent extensive time in until now. Even though the film takes place in a fresh corner of the MCU, it’s still very much a part of the single timeline that the studio has been building since the first Iron Man hit theaters a decade ago, and which will come to an end, of sorts, with the release of Avengers: Infinity War on May 4, and the still-untitled fourth and final Avengers movie set for release on May 3, 2019. And Black Panther doesn’t just continue the larger MCU story in the present day — it fills in some pieces of history as well. Here’s our speculative, and spoiler-free, take on where the events of this movie fall in the existing MCU movie timeline.
In the beginning…
Black Panther opens with an origin story, not for the titular hero, but for the country he protects. Centuries ago, we’re told, a large meteorite full of vibranium fell from the heavens and landed in Africa, sparking a war amongst five regional tribes that ended with the emergence of the Black Panther and the establishment of Wakanda. Since the tribes were fighting each other — and not the Dark Elves — this landing likely happened long after the 2988 B.C. Convergence, when all Nine Realms are aligned, and the subsequent First Battle of Svartalfheim, when Malekith led the doomed uprising glimpsed at the beginning of Thor: The Dark World.
Tumblr media

Similarly, since Hela and Odin don’t appear to be currently engaged in their Seventh Century B.C. realm-by-realm conquest discussed in Thor: Ragnarok, Wakanda’s founding most likely takes place in the Anno Domini epoch, possibly even around the mighty Thunder God’s birth circa 964 or even when Odin tangled with the Frost Giants and discovered Baby Loki the following year.
Back in the ’90s
After that bit of pre-history, Black Panther leaps ahead to 1992-era Oakland for a crucial sequence that the film revisits several times, revealing new facets of a pivotal decision made by T’Chaka, father of the current Black Panther and Wakanda’s king, T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman). The late ’80s/early ’90s were a busy time for the MCU. Four years earlier, for example, future Guardian of the Galaxy, Peter Quill, lost his mother and gained an adoptive alien father. In 1989, normal-sized scientist (and ant-sized superhero) Hank Pym said sayonara to S.H.I.E.L.D. and set up his own outfit, Pym Technologies. Meanwhile, T’Chaka’s Oakland mission takes place mere months after the Dec. 16, 1991 assassination of Howard and Maria Stark by a brainwashed Bucky Barnes, a.k.a. the Winter Soldier, as shown in Captain America: Civil War. (In that movie, of course, T’Challa eventually joined Team Iron Man in the hopes of capturing Bucky after T’Chaka perished in a bombing that Barnes is believed to have orchestrated.) With the revelation that the upcoming Captain Marvel movie will be set in the early ’90s, we’re wondering if word of the Black Panther’s presence in Oakland may have filtered through to Carol Danvers.
Here and now
According to a news report heard early on in Black Panther, the movie proper begins one week after the bombing that killed King T’Chaka in Civil War, thus leaving Wakanda’s throne — and the mantle of the Panther — to his son. No specific time frame is given for the duration of the film’s events, but it’s safe to assume that T’Challa’s journey from a wary, untested leader to a more confident commander-in-chief takes upwards of at least a month.
Tumblr media
Black Panther is on the side of Team Iron Man in the pivotal battle from Captain America: Civil War (Photo: Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures/courtesy Everett Collection)
That means Black Panther is chasing the tail of Spider-Man: Homecoming, which establishes that it’s been eight years since the Battle of Manhattan in The Avengers. After sending Peter Parker off to his Civil War debut in Tony Stark-made underoos, Homecoming then jumps ahead two months to when he’s just a high-school hero looking for his big break. And both movies are lapped by the events of Doctor Strange — which places surgeon Stephen Strange’s career altering-accident just before T’Chaka’s killing, and his emergence as the Sorcerer Supreme nearly a year later — as well as Thor: Ragnarok, where Thor visits a more poised and confident Dr. Strange in his New York Sanctum while searching for the missing Odin in the hopes of preventing Asgard’s looming apocalypse. Ragnarok also ends with Thor coming face-to-face (or, at least, ship-to-ship) with Thanos’s Earth-bound forces making it the direct prelude to Infinity War. After all this build-up, it’s time to bring on the main event!
Black Panther opens in theaters on Friday.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 5 Shows That John Walker Isn’t Shield-Worthy
https://ift.tt/3ah91jn
This Falcon and the Winter Soldier review contains spoilers.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 5
When we last left our patriotic heroes, Captain America’s replacement, John Walker, had just publicly chopped a man to death with his shield. Between this and the way Mysterio edited footage to make Spider-Man look like a mass murderer, it’s a really bad time for Avengers replacements. There’s probably footage of Valkyrie biting someone’s face off to fulfill the trifecta.
Recently, Marvel released a trailer to hype up the last two episodes, and the long-awaited fight between our titular protagonists and the unhinged Walker came off as some kind of climactic final battle. Instead, as a curve ball, that’s exactly where the penultimate episode begins. Before there can be any international fallout over Captain America publicly slaughtering a defeated enemy in front of dozens of recording cell phones, Falcon and Bucky track Walker down and insist he hand over the shield or else.
Much like the first episode, “Truth” starts strong with a major action sequence, and then takes it easy for the rest of the episode. Granted, the 2-on-1 slugfest has far more weight to it than Falcon taking on Batroc in the skies because, by this point, we care more about everyone involved. We also care more for what’s next and where the story will take this trio.
Walker himself is fascinating throughout the episode. He refuses to accept any responsibility for his actions and only points fingers at others. To give the devil his due, there is some truth in his anger. It’s easy to be pissed at Falcon for refusing to cooperate and work together when Walker tried to make peace with him early on, even if it means dismissing Falcon’s issues with the situation.
The panel of old government guys dressing Walker down for his actions is the best representation of how cold, cruel, and emotionless the United States government can be, personifying the decisions to turn Isaiah Bradley’s life into a nightmare or betray Sam Wilson’s trust. When Walker calls them out for creating him – a man who played by their rules and did what they wanted until it didn’t suit them anymore – it’s understandable. He’s just the latest in a line of Captain Americas who have grown disillusioned with their handlers.
But he’s still not the good guy here. Part of his refusal to let things go is that Walker catches himself lying. He spends so much time claiming his victim was responsible for Battlestar’s death and that killing him was the right thing to do. Then why can’t he move on? Because he comes to realize it’s bullshit. The actual killer is out there and until Karli pays, his mission is unfinished.

Karli and the Flag-Smashers take a breather in this episode, allowing various plots to roll on while they plot for later. That’s part of what truly makes “Truth” feel so weird. Even though there is one more episode after this, “Truth” feels like the season finale for a show that’s getting at least one more season. There’s an overall feeling of quiet resolution that spreads through all of this, and most of the dangers feel like something that will be dealt with down the line.
Sam and Bucky work through their beef. Sam has a less tense meeting with Bradley. Zemo’s role in the story reaches a satisfying conclusion. The down-to-earth subplot about the Wilson family and their boat reaches a resolution that works well enough. Yes, Walker is still a ticking time bomb, the Flag-Smashers are licking their wounds, and Sharon Carter is…well, who knows, but we’re seeing the catharsis of Sam accepting his destiny. The looming terrors are merely looming.
Even the episode’s big cameo is reminiscent of one of the MCU’s most iconic post-credits scenes. That it happens so early in this episode just makes everything feel so out of whack.
This all just makes me look forward to next week’s episode more. There’s a lot left in the air and we’ll see it all come to a head in the finale. But we got through so much of the non-action stuff this time around that the finale not only shouldn’t feel overstuffed but will probably allow for a lot more action.
Anyway, the real MVP of this episode is Anthony Mackie’s face whenever Bucky was in any way polite to Sarah Wilson. Good God, that said it all.

Marvel Reveals Dark Hulk Future with New Trailer
https://ift.tt/2LvD220
The basic premise of the Incredible Hulk is that his greatest enemy is himself. Usually, it means that Bruce Banner is at odds with his big, green alter ego or that the Hulk’s rampages and bad luck tend to destroy any semblance of happiness in his life. In 1992, the team of Peter David and George Perez went more literal by having the Hulk’s greatest enemy be an evil version of the Hulk. The Incredible Hulk: Future Imperfect #1 introduced the Maestro, a version of Hulk from a possible dystopian future based on one question:
What if the Hulk had the mind of Banner…but became a full-on megalomaniac?
The basic idea of what happened was that lots of heroes were wiped out in nuclear war, Hulk absorbed more radiation and became stronger, his distaste for humanity drove him insane, and he became a world-ruling monster. There’s even a famous two-page spread of his trophy room that shows the remains of weapons and costume pieces belonging to various Marvel characters. Lots of crazy shit went down, but the details are vague.
While we have a decent idea of what brought the Maestro into existence, we’re finally going to get the full story 28 years after his debut. This August, we’ll be getting Maestro #1 by Peter David and artists German Peralta and Dale Keown. Naturally, Future Imperfect artist George Perez will be doing the variant cover.
“I had no idea that when I first created the Maestro for Future Imperfect, that he would have the kind of popularity and staying power he has now,” Peter David said in a statement. “Until now, I’ve only been able to allude to his origins, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to explore them in this series, and I can’t wait for fans to see all the artwork that’s been coming in!”
Now Marvel is hyping up the story with a new trailer full of animated stills. While we don’t have all the answers, there are a few familiar faces to help keep us guessing.
Notably, we see the return of Professor Hulk and his black undershirt as he punches the head off of a Sentinel. Probably more about establishing Hulk’s heroism before everything went wrong. We also see a roster of Avengers made up of Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, Wolverine, Giant Man, Scarlet Witch, and Vision.
More importantly, Hulk appears to be tangling with AIM and an elderly version of MODOK. AIM also appears to have Hulk’s rival the Abomination in some kind of stasis. Considering the shot of Hulk tackling MODOK and this being an origin story of Hulk’s turn to megalomania, I don’t like AIM’s chances.
On the dire side, the trailer shows Washington DC getting nuked and Hulk coming across the destroyed remains of a city. What’s interesting in this is how there’s one still that very much looks like Hulk from the alternate future Hulk: The End, where he’s the last man alive and he’s constantly feasted on by cockroaches on a daily basis. More on that in a second.

Marvel’s Avengers Game: Who is MODOK?

Future Imperfect was about the Professor Hulk persona (also with Banner’s intellect) being pulled into the future by rebels to defeat his evil future self. In the initial physical contest, he didn’t stand a chance, but he ultimately destroyed Maestro by sending him back in time to Hulk’s explosive origin at the bomb testing site. The gamma blast killed Maestro and he…proceeded to come back in really contrived ways that aren’t really all that memorable.
He still became a staple for alternate Marvel Earths and their futures. His canon self fought the Exiles prior to Future Imperfect‘s events. He was one of the bigger threats to God Doom’s reign in Secret Wars. A version of him appeared as an antagonist in the Contest of Champions series. A version of Maestro ended up in the Old Man Logan universe and got killed by the titular hero. One time the Avengers found a future where Maestro was a benevolent member of the team, but had a secret grudge against Bucky Barnes (which I don’t think was ever really explained).
More than anything else, Maestro exists as something for Banner and Hulk to fear becoming. Going on rampages is one thing, but to be a sadistic villain is too far for both the scientist and the brute. In Hulk: The End, even being the very last man on Earth, Banner still shaved regularly because he didn’t want to see Maestro staring back at him. When Hulk became the intelligent Dr. Green and was bent on curing all the gamma-powered supporting characters, he ultimately stopped because he realized he was going down Maestro’s path. There’s even a What If based on modern Banner evolving into Maestro instead of Professor Hulk and being so freaked out that he tricked the Thing into killing him.
Once August comes around, we’ll see how the big, green nightmare truly begins.
