Carrot Top- 12: Silenced

Well, it’s here. I’ve been writing a lot more, I need to remember to edit so I can post stuff and not worry about it anymore. Also, woah. I didn’t expect this chapter to be as long as it turned out to be, but oh well I guess. Sorry not sorry.

CW: Restraints, defiant whumpee, possessive/controlling whumper, knives, non con touching (non sexual), dehumanization, blood, some mild gore? (idk I got kinda descriptive but not too bad I guess)

Howe tried his best to calm the young man down as his chest heaved uncontrollably. His body was wracked with sobs. His heart pumped faster and his lungs beat harder as the tears streamed down the sides of his face.

The Doctor grabbed a clean rag and began wiping the tears away as best as he could. He was trying to hold back tears of his own as he gently cleaned the boy’s face.

“Shhh, it’s okay, calm down. You can breathe, you can breathe, you’ll be okay. Just remember to breathe now, come on.”

He set the rag down and grabbed the anesthetic, beginning to insert it into the iv. Howe quickly turned back to the boy once it had entered into his system.

“Don’t worry, this’ll all be over soon. When you wake up you’ll feel a lot better. You’re gonna get sleepy now, but that’s okay. Just breathe and relax for me. It’s okay, it’ll be okay.”

Andrew’s eyes darted back to the small box that contained the chip and he tried to hold back another wave of tears- but he had no control over his body. He didn’t want that thing inside of him. That was far worse than a collar- than a beating, or a couple of scars. That was permanent it was- it was full and complete control.

A wave of sleepiness wafted over his body as his muscles ached and throbbed. He felt his eyelids getting heavier, spots coming into his vision as he was forced to relax.

Howe looked back towards the microchip and quickly moved it behind a pile of supplies on the cart next to him, hiding it from both of their views. He shook his head and wiped away the fresh tears that came, as Andrew’s eyes grew heavier.

“I’m just doing my job. I can’t- I-I have to, I-” He sighed, right as Andrew’s eyes fluttered closed.

“I’m sorry.”

When Andrew woke up he was still unable to move.

Not because he had the anesthesia or a paralytic or anything in his system, but because he was still strapped down to the table.

The band going across his forehead had been released, and his head was instead propped up on a small pillow. But the thick straps still wrapped around his arms and legs, his hips, and his shoulders.

Thick stitches and scars lined the front of his torso, a large line going from underneath his collarbone to his belly button. Instead of an intubation tube down his throat, a smaller one wrapped around his head hooking under his nose.

It was a gentle reminder to breathe as he tried not to panic.

Especially as he began to panic when the man that walked into the room was not Doctor Howe.

With the way that he was positioned, he was able to look down at his chest. He was able to see the scars that would stay there, able to feel the ache in his bones and the pressure that had been on his chest as he struggled to breathe.

And all that he could think as Splice approached the table was that this was all his fault.

And that anger rose throughout Andrew much stronger than the fear or the panic did.

For at least a moment.

“Go away.” Andrew croaked.

He didn’t realize how hoarse and tired his voice was going to sound. It made him instantly feel a lot weaker.

Splice ignored his words and pulled a stool over to sit down at the side of the table.

“The doctor fixed you up pretty nicely. How are you feeling?”

“Bothered.” He replied. “Leave me alone.” Andrew shut his eyes in an attempt to block out the man sitting next to him. That attempt failed as fingers locked into his hair.

Splice gripped the curls tightly and ran a hand through them, inspecting the strands before lifting them up and letting them fall back onto the table.

“Well look at that. Your hair is already starting to fade. I wonder how long I can continue to call you carrot top before it completely loses its color.”

“Don’t touch me.” He growled.

Andrew’s eyes stayed close while the man ran fingers through his hair. He knew that that was a side affect of his powers. Using them too much had a tendency to deplete the pigmentation of his hair, and his freckles as well. It was almost as if his body was drawing the energy he used from the vibrance of his natural colors. When he didn’t use his abilities, it had no affect on him and his hair stayed a bright orange-red. When he overexerted himself, his freckles would fade, and his hair would begin to turn a bleach blonde, almost a white.

He guessed that having his powers physically stripped from him through that device placed in his chest would have the same affect.

Splice traced a finger down the stitches along his chest. Goosebumps broke the boy’s skin and he couldn’t help but shiver. The man hooked another finger around the ring in his collar and tugged at it ever so slightly. Andrew jerked against his restraints but it sent a jolt of pain throughout his chest and he gasped at the shock.

The man laughed and shook his head.

“Good to know you’re awake enough to move about. Or at least to wiggled.” Splice laughed.

“Let’s see, should we have another grammar lesson? Surely you remember the first one.”

Andrew kept his eyes closed and his mouth silent as Splice asked him the five questions.

“Who do you belong to?”

Silence. Splice sighed and continued.

“What are you.”

As the man’s frustration built he turned to another tactic and created a clone of himself. Splice seemed to melt from the top of his head, the ooze spilling onto the floor and then rising up again. The second man took shape and moved to stand on the other side of the table.

Andrew’s eyes shot open as he felt two more hands on his body. Splice already had one on his collar and a grip in his hair, but now the clone placed a cold hand in the middle of his chest and a second one gripped his upper arm.

“Where, and when?”

Andrew’s breathing got a bit heavier but he continued to remain silent, clenching his teeth.

“Why?”

Splice gripped the collar tighter, lifting Andrew’s head slightly off the table as he forced him to look him in the eye. The boy hiccuped out a breath but didn’t speak.

“Why resist? It’ll just make it harder for you in the long run.”

The clone stepped back to grab something out of the corner of Andrew’s eye. He couldn’t make out what the object was as it was handed to Splice.

“Let’s try this again, shall we?” His fingers latched back into Andrew’s curls. “Who? Who do you belong to?”

The boy breathed deeply.

Himself. He didn’t belong to anyone.

He spoke the words carefully as he answered the question.

“Me. I belong to me.”

All of a sudden there was fire spreading around his leg in his left thigh. It was small but seemed to grow larger as the pain seemed to expand. It wasn’t until he had let out a gasp and a choked back sob that he realized it was a knife.

Just the tip poked into his thigh. It was barely half an inch deep but already he could see the blood wanting to seep out.

“Wrong answer.” Splice stated. “Let’s continue though shall we? What are you?”

Andrew knew what he needed to say, despite knowing he shouldn’t say it.

“A human with- with thoughts and feelings.”

He gasped and groaned through his teeth as the knife pushed into his leg deeper. Splice just shook his head.

“Where, and When?”

“Away from you.”

“You haven’t learned yet have you?”

As Splice spoke, the knife drove further into the flesh of his leg. Andrew stifled back a scream that soon erupted forth. After the initial pain had died down he felt able to breathe again.

“Lastly, Why?”

“Because I- because-” he took a deep breath, willing his voice to be steady before managing to get his answer out. “Because you’re cruel and inhuman.”

Andrew shrieked as the knife was pushed into his leg as far as it would go. There was a squelch and a thump as the hilt of the blade met his skin, blood pooling over the sides of his leg.

Splice melted apart to form a third clone.

“It looks like you didn’t learn anything from your last lesson. Shall we try again?”

The clone stood over Andrew, lifeless, emotionless. Just an empty shell of a physical body positioned to stand in one spot for the sake of intimidation.

Splice gripped the handle of the knife tightly, and Andrew could feel the cold metal of the blade inside of his leg, fighting against the throbbing muscles and bone.

Slowly, the man began to turn the knife inside of Andrew’s leg.

Andrew felt the knife tearing at the muscles, blood spurting out with every movement, and he howled.

He bucked against the table, thrashing as best as he could despite the restraints. He felt desperate to get away from the pain that was flaring up and down his leg. That fiery pain seemed to spread to his chest, making it tighter and harder to breathe. He sobbed as tears poured down his face.

“I hope you’ll finally learn something this time, hmm?”

Andrew clenched his eyes shut.

“Who do you belong to?”

The boy choked back a sob. He didn’t want to answer. He didn’t want to give in, but more than anything he wanted to be away from the pain. And he knew that the only one to be free from pain, was compliance and obedience.

Splice asked once more.

“Who do you belong to?”

“I- I’m yours. I belong to- to you.”

Splice smiled and pulled the knife out a few inches. Andrew gasped, throwing his head back as it the blade moved in his leg.

“What are you?”

Andrew heaved out a breath, the tears streaming down his face.

“A- a tool. Used how- how you see fit.”

“Good, you’re catching on. Now where, and when.”

Andrew couldn’t breathe. Once more, he struggled for the breath that seemed to never come. But he had to answer. Answering meant less pain. Less struggle.

“Here. And for-” he hiccuped through a sob as he tried to form the words that he didn’t want to say. “And,- and for forever.”

The knife came almost the full way out of his leg that time. Just the tip remaining inside his flesh.

“And lastly, why? Why am I doing this Andy?”

The boy choked back a sob at the nickname.

That was something only his mom was allowed to call him. He’d lived without her for a few years now, but at this moment he wished for nothing more than to be curled up on her couch with his sisters- eating her home cooked food, laughing and smiling.

“Why?”

“Because I-” He could barely form the words throughout the sobs and wails that wracked his body. “Because I- I deserve it. I’m worthless.”

The knife left his body and clattered to the ground as Splice chucked it aside. Blood began to gush heavily from the open gash in his thigh, soaking his pants and pooling around the table.

Andrew was right. He felt worthless. He believed that he was.

Otherwise he would have been stronger. He wouldn’t have been so weak and given in to Splice so easily. The last time he’d seen his friends was in an argument. They were mad at him because he was so selfish. Because he didn’t care about that, because he was a terrible friend.

No wonder they hadn’t come for him.

And they weren’t ever going to come for him.

Because he was worthless.

Splice smiled, clearly satisfied.

“What did you say?”

Andrew moaned through his despair. The tears ran down his face.

“I- I’m worthless.”

“That’s right.” Splice stated. He melted into another clone that took a spot around the table. “You are only what I say you are. Nothing more. This is no longer your life, but mine.”

Beads of sweat dripped down the man’s forehead as he split into another clone, and then another.

There were six of them now. They surrounded Andrew on all sides, leaning over him, blocking his vision.

Splice was all he could see, and then it was all he could feel.

Cold, unfeeling hands grabbed at his limbs, invading his space. They gripped his legs, around his arms and neck, resting on his head, chest, or shoulders. The hands didn’t squeeze, or pinch, or inflict pain.

They just marked their ownership.

And Andrew was helpless to do anything about it.

He wished to be able to push them off. To throw himself off of that table and at Splice, tackling him to the ground, picking up the knife, to-

But he couldn’t.

He instead laid there.

No longer himself, but an obedient mind inside of a useless body.

Splice had claimed him.

He’d marked him with a collar and a whip. The man had broken him- literally, and left him as an empty shell of the funny, charming and energetic self that he used to be.

“I. Own. You.” Splice stated. “Do you understand?”

Andrew nodded. He was willing to do anything at this point to get the man’s hands off of him. To get Splice to leave him alone, to let him shrink into himself and hide.

“I- I understand. I’m sorry. Pl- please don’t-, please- I understand, I do. I’m sorry, please just- just, don’t I- I’ll-” His words were cut off by his own choked back sobs as he tried to plead and beg. For what, he wasn’t sure. Maybe for a relief of the pain and despair that he felt. Maybe for some satisfaction in hoping that if Splice listened to his pleas, he would still feel some semblance of control.

“Shh, I have plenty of time to hear you grovel later.” Splice stated. “For now, you have to be punished for speaking back earlier. For being defiant and arguing with me.”

At the sound of a punishment the boy’s heart began to beat faster, and he started to panic again.

“No!” He cried. “Please! Don’t I’ll- I’m, I’m sorry. Please, don’t just don’t I’ll be good, I promise, -let- let me be good please- please… just don’t- don’t punish me, please-”

Splice seemed amused and a little satisfied as the boy pleaded with him, but he remained stern.

“This punishment is for speaking out, so don’t you think you might want to shut your mouth?”

Andrew’s pleas stopped nearly immediately. Instead dying down to a small whimper and a cry, as the man sent off one of his clones to retrieve what was needed for the boy’s punishment.

Andrew couldn’t see what was happening as large hands came near his face. The oxygen tube around his nose was removed and tossed carelessly aside. His eyes were swelled with tears, and blurry without his glasses. He couldn’t make out what was happening until something cold and hard was being pressed up against his lips.

Instinctively he opened his mouth and the foreign item was shoved inside. It pressed up against his tongue and his teeth as he discovered it was made of rubber. As it was forced further into his mouth behind his teeth, thick fabric followed to wrap around his nose and under his jaw. The same cold hands lifted up his head, wrapping thick straps behind his neck and tightening them behind his ears.

The material was a soft leather, but to Andrew it felt like the toughest substance in the world. It restricted all movement to his mouth, and the bit inside muffled any sounds he tried to make.

A muzzle.

Out of instinct, he attempted to move his mouth to make any noise, form any word, but he couldn’t. He knew the efforts were futile. The leather was trapped too tightly around his face for anything to come out.

A whimper died out quickly as Splice chuckled, letting the boy’s head fall back onto the table.

“That should do it.” He stated.

Each clone melted one by one as Splice gave up the controls he had on them. They dissolved quickly, releasing their grips on Andrew’s limbs and body as the puddles evaporated.

Each of Andrew’s abilities to communicate had been stripped away. It had been nearly two days since he could move on his own, he had lost all control over his own body, and now, he couldn’t speak.

All he had left was his eyes.

The boy’s emotions were clear just by looking at them. Tears welled up uncontrollably and flooded out, streaming down his cheeks and landing in his hair.

Splice chuckled, satisfied with his results as he left the boy alone.

Broken, and silenced.

NOTICE FROM THE CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE COORDINATION

AND PROJECTS OPERATION COMMAND OFFICE

There is nothing new to report regarding SPC-001 at this time.

Test subject displaying the results of his exposure to SPC-001.

Project #: SPC-001

Selachian Pugnātorial Capabilities: Individuals enhanced with SPC-001 display a dramatic improvement in pugilistic prowess and have consistently proven capable of easily dispatching 90% of squaloid entities in simulations, even with no prior training. Furthermore, SPC-001 subjects have reported a radical elevation in coastal requiescence position retention, even when under assault from extragranular sedimentary weaponry.

Project Components: SPC-001 is a manmade chemical substance which augments the biological strength and dexterity of human beings. After initial exposure to SPC-001, subjects will undergo a steady increase in muscle mass over the following 72 hours, accompanied by heightened energy levels and adroit perception of their surroundings. Increased lung capacity and resistance to deep-sea hydrostatic pressure are common side effects.

Following the DREAD PORPOISE COMMUNION and the subsequent activation of the ALL HANDS ON DECK PROTOCOL, SPC agents embedded in the food industry began introducing discreet amounts of SPC-001 into numerous products intended for public consumption. Centre researchers have projected a full global saturation of SPC-001 to be achieved by the year ████. In the event that the DREAD PORPOISE COMMUNION ends before global saturation can be achieved, more aggressive means of SPC-001 dispersal may be undertaken to prevent a complete End-of-World K/O Failure Scenario.

Nascency Impetus: On May 16, ████, all observed selachian entities across the globe simultaneously demanifested, including those in SPC captivity. No selachian entities or evidence of the continued presence of selachian entities have been observed since. A Maximum State of Emergency was declared soon after by the Executive Pugilist Assembly and the phenomenon was codified as the DREAD PORPOISE COMMUNION. It is the belief of the Assembly that the selachians are congregating in preparation for the FINAL CONFLICT, an event foretold by Elder Pugilord Azmanititas in the Centre's original constitutional documents in 1451.

[08:23] DrTsega: No? Okay, I'll break it down for you.

[08:26] DrTsega: I was part of a group known as the Selachian Punching Centre. An organization dedicated to fighting the menace that plagued our oceans. "We punch underwater so you can live on the land." That's what we used to say.

[08:27] DrTsega: I know what you're thinking.

[08:29] DrTsega: Yes. It was us keeping you safe the entire time. The Centre safeguarded mankind for centuries. Civilization as we knew it wouldn't have been possible if we weren't around. Our influence was unparalleled, extending to every level of every government, changing the course of world events, yet remaining a complete secret from everybody, which was really quite tricky.

Then, one day, the selachian menace disappeared. Our immediate reaction was one of disbelief, followed by euphoria, followed by raucous celebration. We danced. We drank ourselves stupid. We sang the songs of our forefathers. The orgies weren't officially sanctioned, of course, but boy howdy-doo were they tremendous.

Sadly, our revelry wasn't meant to last.

"DREAD PORPOISE COMMUNION", the Assembly called it. The prophesied gathering of every selachian, big or small. Every sharp, slimy, putrid horror that haunted our dreams, coming together in one place to bring about the end of all other life on our beautiful, green planet.

"But fear not," said our trusted Assembly. They told us that the human race would fight back. They said that when the selachians returned with their armies and squaloid murder-drones, we would be ready.

And they were right. We were ready. Thanks to SPC-001, we managed to get the entire human race fighting fit. At first people were alarmed when everyone started getting super ripped for no apparent reason, but then they realized it was awesome and the panic died down. Within a few months, every man, woman, and child was a lean, mean, punching machine. Even babies had abs you could wash your clothes on. It seemed like everything was going fine.

And that's how it went for the first couple of years: fine. Sure, boxing had to be outlawed once folks could punch with the same Newtonian force as your average car crash, and there were a few riots now and then over tank top shortages, but for the most part everything felt normal.

Year three, people started getting antsy. We had kept ourselves busy at the Centre by devising new weapons for selachian warfare, but every innovation felt hollow with a lack of anything to use them on. We grew listless. Surely the assault would begin any day, right?

Year four. There was an aura of dread hanging over the whole organization. I remember sitting in the Site-71 cafeteria, eating pickled cabbage and creamed corn salads with my comrades, when I finally heard someone ask aloud what we'd all wondered in the dark corners of our heads.

"What if they don't come back?"

It was Simmons who said that, of course. Of course. I kicked him in the face—a punch would have really hurt him—but the damage was done. It's a scary thought, losing your purpose in life. Faced with that kind of existential ennui, it's no wonder that everyone responded by flipping their shit. Hersberger screamed and started smearing her salad all over her face. Gertzler stabbed his fork tines into his cheek with no visible emotion. Bühler just broke down and cried until his tears turned to blood.

But Schwartzentruber was downright fuming. Started shouting all sorts of obscenities. Said he'd shove his fist down Simmons' throat and rip out his toenails from the inside. And Simmons was all defensive, "you all were thinking it" and that kind of stuff. The two kept going at it. We shouldn't have just sat there and watched, but no one thought fists would ever get involved. How could we have known?

I remember the entire cafeteria going silent. One moment, the two colleagues had been arguing. Next thing we knew, Schwartzentruber was wearing Simmons' face around his arm like a bracelet. Fist went straight through. Nobody knew what to say. Hersberger just picked the brain matter from her hair. There was no finishing our dinner after something like that.

We all tried to write it off as an isolated incident, an unhinged employee who forgot his own strength in a moment of pure emotion. That illusion was shattered when reports started coming in from the other sites. Similar incidents were happening all over the world, and within a few weeks it wasn't just limited to SPC personnel. These arms were made for punching, and that's just what they did.

As time went on, it became harder for us to fight the itch. Punching bags were laughable at that point, so instead we invented punching blocks out of a titanium-concrete composite. Even fashioned them into the shape of selachians to help take the pain away, but it still wasn’t enough. Whenever we came close to a cure, someone would end up atomizing the equipment with a flick of the wrist and we'd have to start over.

Eventually, one day I walked into the cafeteria and found the floor covered in what must have been two inches of blood. I thought maybe a pipe had burst until I saw Bühler sitting on a table in the corner. Guy was slathered in viscera from top to bottom, and he was wearing human heads around his arms like they were snap bracelets. I asked if he wanted to talk, but he didn't answer. He just stared at his fists and trembled. Then, in the blink of an eye, he was dead, hole in his beefy chest so big I coulda driven my Grampy's Volvo through it.

That was what broke me, I think. I had never seen someone self-pugilate before. I didn't know how many people were still alive in Site-71, but I knew that I would not perpetuate the carnage. I gathered some medical supplies from the surgical augmentations lab and tied a tourniquet around my burgeoning, well-defined bicep. Carefully, I injected myself with the nearest substance that resembled an anesthetic and bid my guns goodbye.

Screaming, writhing, I hacked off my arm using only a pair of rusty toenail clippers. Needless to say, I was dizzy from pain, blood loss, and the 5 CCs of green apple daiquiri I'd injected myself with, but somehow I managed to drag myself back to the cafeteria to cauterize my stump in the kitchen's oven. Barely clinging to consciousness, I set the oven to preheat, wrapped my stump in a tent of foil, and stuck it inside, turning regularly to promote an even cauter and applying a light baste to keep it moist.

When the bleeding stopped, I went back and repeated the process with my other arm. The second time was harder, I think. With no free hands remaining, I was forced to grip the toenail clippers with my teeth. I also ran out of baste. It was the most agonizing experience I could ever possibly fathom, but here I am. Alive. My cannonball deltoids still ripple with pugilistic vigor now and then, but the stubs are too short to be lethal.

And that's it. That's my story. That's how I ended up here, barricaded alone in an underground facility, typing on a keyboard with my tongue. I haven't been able to get in touch with any other Centre sites, and I can't leave the building. Every day I lose a little more hope. My personal hygiene has suffered, too—partly because I can't look at a pair of clippers without bursting into tears. My toenails are getting really long now. I'll probably have to use a pair of scissors or something. I could even use that electric carving knife I got for my birthday. Hell, I think there's a chainsaw in the supply closet. No shortage of options, really.

Even if I'm alive now, there's no telling how long that will last. Sometimes I hear people punching on the reinforced doors, desperate to break in and claim another victim to slake their drunken punchlust. Someday they may succeed. There's enough food left around to keep me going a while, though just for a while. I've kept my mind occupied and my spirits up by watching Dr. Cavender's Walking Dead box sets, but I can feel that post-Season-Six quality drop looming just around the corner.

Maybe this was their plan all along. Maybe they just left the planet, knowing full well we'd destroy ourselves. Maybe when the last human has passed their final breath, the selachians will return from wherever they went and feast on our tight, sculpted corpses. Or maybe they're happier where they are now. Maybe they're not coming back. I hope that's not the case. As much as it pains me to say it: I miss them.

I miss sharks.

oh my gosh, of course, thatd be so awesome!! i think ive gone into pretty good depth about ry already (but def feel free to ask more questions abt them! u can find all the info abt him that ive posted so far under the “kens ocs” tag on my blog!) so ill talk abt their partner, shaun diaz, and a bit abt their relationship!

she’s got 14 siblings! almost all of which are adopted!

shes the 9th oldest of them and was adopted when she was around 13!

she has a twin sister named max, who she was separated from at birth

max was put into the foster care system n was adopted by their dads veryvery young while shaun was taken in by a woman named raven. they lived in a very small apartment and were pretty poor, but they were both happy

shaun was eventually taken in by the diaz family after raven died

she was born and raised in new york, in the bronx area!

her accent is thick af, there have been multiple occasions where ry could not understand a goddamn word she was saying

shes a lil punkass skateboarder!

shes also supersuper social. she can make friends with just about anybody!

(she has so many friends that whenever she runs into someone she knows at the store or smth, if shes with ry, they just sit down on the floor bc they Know shes gonna be talking to her friend forever)

she rly enjoys going out to clubs n parties n stuff! she goes out pretty regularly

she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when she was 16!

shes really into boxing! her parents started teaching her self defense n stuff like that when they first adopted her, n she fell in love with boxing n still practices pretty regularly

shes veryvery protective over her siblings and the people she loves. 10/10 would kick someones ass for them

same as ry, she got into drugs pretty young and eventually got sober a little while before he did

she needs glasses but she Never wears them, shes Always wearing her contacts and almost always refuses to take them out

shes rly into hippie/witchy ish stuff, specifically auras and reincarnation and tarot and she very strongly believes that the energy you put out into the world comes back to you

shes four years younger than ry! they met when she was 20 and he was 24 but didnt initially get together until the next year

they were fwb for a couple years before shaun realized she had caught feelings n she freaked out n broke things off between them

a couple years after That, when she was 24 and they were 28, they met up again at shauns older sisters wedding (shauns sister and ry were roommates for a long time) and they made up n started dating officially :)

gotta finish tuning a vocaloid cover for a certain vocaloid who’s 10th anniversary is coming up :D! I’ve also been working on some drawings, including 1(one) last minute one for pride, and also crying because I broke one of my fav doll’s foot joints and haven’t tackled a repair yet :’(

🐝 four f*ndoms that have piqued your interest right now?

err I don’t really do fandom culture all too much LOL. As for communities I DO create content for and interact with: Vocaloid/vocal synth. I make covers, videos, and art and all that! I Also pop into the doll world once in a while, but i find it generally difficult to interact with people there, so most of the time i keep my doll Endeavours to myself (which isn't a bad thing!! I like having something i can relax and and have for just me 😏)

That's not 4, so here's some media I've been enjoying lately:

Animal Crossing! I honestly don't play video games often but im hooked! I've maxed out over half of my islander's friendship and got most of their picture frames. Kevin is my husband.

I went back to "Do Vocaloids Dream of Doomsday Bird" by Sasakure.uk again. One of my fav albums of all time. Its 2010 baybee!! The track Wanderlast ft. Megurine Luka has always had an impact on me so I'll say that 💕

Also been listening to "John Frustrated" by ippo.tsk feat. Cyber Diva and Eleanor Forte on repeat. I'm not the biggest fan of Eleanor's unenthusiastic sounding voice in most uses of her, but the song itself is a bop. Go girl give us nothing (@ eleanor)! funny that she was one of the first vocal synths i used.

🐝 recommend a movie. The Descent 2005 dir. Neil Marshall. One of the few horror movies to actually scare me. Plus the practical effects are rlly good!

Not to be a weeb, but I've been drawn to kuudere personality types ever since i was little. I think it started with Kanade Tachibana. I rewatched Angel Beats bc it was put back on netflix and relived my youth, and I liked her character just as much as i did back then. Rei, Lain (although she's not technically kuudere since you need that hidden affection to qualify) etc. Ive always been interested in this character dynamic.

okay sorry it took so long for me to write and post this, but im home now and in the silence to be able to gather my thoughts and the peace to be able to write them down. a lot of this is me working through my own thoughts as i write it so im sorry its so long, but im still a little bit confused on how to feel about this, largely, i think, due to shock.

i had no clue about almost any of the stuff julie did or said to people. i knew of the miles thing to some extent (i didnt know why miles was uncomfortable with him, i only knew about the aftereffects) and i knew about the vague story surrounding why maddy, jay and marina didnt like him, although i had never actually spoken to them before.

my initial reaction to the callout was to get defensive, because that was someone i considered my friend and although somewhere i think i knew or had some inkling that he was like this, i chalked it up to mistakes and people jealous of his popularity because i wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. but the more i read the callout (i never finished it, partially because i had to take screencaps of the posts and painstakingly slowly read through them because the nature of my work makes it very difficult to focus on things for more than a few seconds at a time and partially because by the time i stopped, i had already made my decision regarding him) the more i realized that defending his actions isnt something i can, should, or would do.

and regarding the “sc/hool sho/oter” post, i live in america. in fact, i lived about 5-15 minutes away from where one of these sc/hool sho/otings happened (i lived for several years in roseburg, oregon, and the sh/ooting at u.c.c. happened a year or two after i moved to where i live now). i knew people who went there. i knew one person who died. the day it happened i broke down in the middle of marching band because i had no idea whether or not the friends i knew for three years were alive or dead and that fucking terrified me. and when it happened, i told julie over discord (because i was working when i heard about it) that i did not condone his actions or words and that it was wrong of him to say, but (and i still stand by this), it is not the place of anyone who was not even indirectly affected by a shooting to decide whether or not someone is worthy of redemption. no, julie should not have reblogged that post and while it is totally fine for you to be uncomfortable to interact with him because of it, i think only people who have been directly affected by sc/hool shoo/tings have the right to decide if he is worthy of forgiveness - for that. the rest of it is a different matter.

a few months ago i actually went through this with someone else. i wrote a callout post for daisy, a mercy blog in the overwatch fandom who deleted shortly after i wrote it. (if any of you want to see that callout, let me know and ill send it to you. i will admit here and now that there was something i shouldnt have added in there, but it was added with good intentions, but regardless, daisy’s callout really has nothing to do with the situation with julie and nothing to do with what is happening now. shes gone. im just making a connection to this situation.) it was a very similar situation; manipulation, hypocrisy, turning people against others, saving face and caring more about reputation than anything else. and while i was absolutely terrified of daisy’s situation happening again, where i get really really close with someone and then find out they manipulated the fuck out of me, i was also scared to lose friends, and i think thats a big part of why i wanted so badly to match or whatever, because i really really really wanted a place to belong, where i felt special and unique and yet part of a group and in the end that really fucked me over and made me blind to what was happening. i defended him (albeit not for long, ive only spoken to him for a few months now) for things i shouldnt have defended him for because i was terrified of losing people and im so sorry about that.

as for the callout itself: i will say that i do think there are two sides to every story. im not saying julie is a victim in this or that he is to be sympathized with, because at the end of the day, he hurt a lot of people and its good that the word was spread before more people got hurt. i dont agree that it is “a cis persons responsibility to make sure people know they are cis” because that kind of mindset will only lead to a witch hunt, but im not going to make a fuss about this because i know some other genderqueer people are more uncomfortable about cis people than i am and at the end of the day that is a personal opinion. i think some of the callout was worded with bias which probably, in some situations, did slightly twist the truth, ONLY because it is a callout and it is really difficult not to twist the truth in them even when they are written as formally as possible, HOWEVER while most of the time i disregard callouts (because a lot of them are written entirely based on personal bias because someone doesnt like someone else rather than on an actual need for people to be warned), this one was written very eloquently and very well. as someone who has been on that side of things, im really really proud of the people who contributed to it, especially those that werent afraid of giving their names out, because that is a really really hard thing to do, especially when its for someone really popular. i remember when i wrote one for daisy, i was almost sick to my stomach with the anxiety, and really pleasantly surprised when it was received much better than i expected. i am really proud of you guys, and thank you for letting me and everyone else know the truth of what happened.

however, that callout was not an attack, nor was it intended to be, and by people sending julie hate, youre just making the situation worse. i believe, in my personal opinion, that the best thing to do is to block and move on. we can come together as a community, and while julies actions wont go away, hopefully we can heal and understand from them. and i really want to thank manny for that post, because similarly to daisy, it is the people closest to the person in question who are left most in the dark. as julies friend, i had no idea about almost anything that was there and honestly, im glad now that i do. thank you for understanding that the people who associated with him are not always aware of what he did.

anyway this is really disorganized and im sorry, thats just my thoughts on the matter (as much as i can think anyway), and i hope it makes some sort of sense. i will be hardblocking julie on all of my blogs and changing the urls to both my izuku blog and my ouma blog and my icon for this blog. if you choose to continue to interact with julie, thats on you and i wont reprimand you, block you or unfollow you for it. please do not associate me with him anymore, though, add me to any groups anywhere with him, or tag me and him in the same posts.

and, as i said before, because i really want to get this point across, if you are uncomfortable with me because i interacted with him so much and so intimately and wish to hard or softblock or unfollow me, that is perfectly fine and i understand completely. i only ask if you softblock me that you let me know so that i dont accidentally follow you again, because i dont want to make anyone uncomfortable with my presence.

Summary: Two top CIA operatives wage an epic battle against one another after they discover they are dating the same woman (heavily based on the movie)

A/N: A/N: hey guys! How's it going? Yes two posts in one week, isn't it marvelous. I'm currently thinking in a British accent. God I love these men.

The next morning you wake up and quietly get out of bed careful not to wake a snoring Bucky. You pull on a dress and quickly gather your things around the room.

"Hey." A raspy voice calls out.

"Oh my god!" You jump surprised by his voice.

Bucky grinned up at you with messy bed hair.

"Oh gosh, okay." You laughed a bit embarrassed.

"Morning." He grinned sitting up.

"Good morning." You chuckled.

"You're dressed, where are you going?" He chuckled.

"I have to go to work. " You grab your shoes pulling them on.

"I- oh I though maybe we could make pancakes or something." He smiled sitting up fully. "Do you like pancakes?" He asked.

"Oh I love pancakes." You stood up grabbing your purse. "I want nothing more than to have pancakes. Who doesn't like pancakes? Crazy people that's who." You rambled.

"Crazy people." He chuckled.

"But I have to go to work, because I have a meeting really super early, so I got to go." You nodded.

"Yeah, Yeah." He cleared his throat. "No, that's- Uh that's cool." He looked away. "I have a.. Ive got a meeting too, so... okay."

"But last night, was like..." you took a deep breath trying to find a word worthy. "Like Uh..." you grinned.

He looked at you a smile on his face, "Was it incredible?" He asked hopeful.

"That was crazy." You nodded.

"Yeah.."

"Um, thank you, for the..."

"T-thank you for... for that." He nodded back.

"So, I'm gonna go." You said. "But, um, lock up behind you, or don't... I don't know. You're not gonna steal anything, are you?" You chuckled. "Wow I don't know why I said that." You shook your head. "Okay bye." You looked away and walked out of your bedroom.

"Goodbye!" Bucky groaned covering his face. "I totally sucked didn't I?"

You called daisy as soon as you stepped out of the house. "Daisy! I slept with him." You whispered.

"Which one?" She asked.

"Bucky." You grinned.

"Oh my god that's awesome!" She grinned. "How do you feel? Can you walk?" She teased.

"Oh my god, ew." You laughed. "But lets just say, small hands... not an issue."

"I knew it!" She laughed. "Told you! So how was it?"

"Amazing- five times amazing but I don't know what to do! I'm supposed to go meet Steve this afternoon, but after last night, I can't see Steve now!" You walked down the steps of your house toward the car.

"What no, they do this all the time. Why can't we?"

"Okay Okay fine, but I'm going to hell." You shook your head.

"You're not going to hell, and if you do I'll be there to pick you up." She chuckled.

"Okay save me a drink." You said and hung up.

"Okay men, last nights surveillance please." Steve walked into the surveillance room.

"Oh hey!" Peter quickly stood up. "Uh we didn't get anything." He shook his head. "Got nothing... the tape jammed so..." he chuckled nervously.

"Parker, it's digital." Steve gave him a look.

"Mm, it... yeah." He scratched the back of his neck.

"Right. So can I have the disk?" He asked.

Peter pulled it from his jacket. "Seriously, you.. you don't want to see it." He held it out reluctantly.

"I'll be the judge of that, thank you." He pulled it from his tight grasp.

"Now, did you see this?" Steve asked.

"Uh, only once." He nods.

Peter took a nervous breath. "Uh, agent Barnes entered the premises."

"Right, and?" Steve asked but he didn't answer. "Parker?"

"Then He.."

"Peter I swear- what happened next?"

"Then He... entered the premises..."

Steve's eyes widened. "I got it, bud. Yeah, I totally understand."

"Yeah, o-okay."

Steve turns and throws the disk in the trash and walks out.

Peter kneels over holding his chest and lets out a breath.

Bucky sat in his apartment watching titanic on the couch. He mouthed along until the doorbell rang. He furrowed his brows and walked over to the door.

When he opened it he saw the pretty flight attendant he had "dated" before.

"Hey." He smiled.

"Hi." She grinned.

"Mya..." He said.

"So, it's Tuesday." She said.

"Mm-hmm." He nods.

"My layover day." She said.

"Yeah." He nods. "Right, um... it's just, Uh.. look, I can't really.. really do this. Um, i met somebody. Sorry."

She looked surprised but nodded, "okay."

He sighed and nodded before the door closed. He walked over to the couch feeling weird. "What's happening to me?"

"You have absolutely no self control man!" Steve walked along side Bucky.

"Steve, look, I didn't plan on this happening. Okay? She's the one that initiated it in the first place."

"Yeah well of course she did, you had her meet your family. What girl doesn't love that?" He asked. "You broke the rules, man."

"Forget about the rules! This is not a game anymore. I really care about (Y/N)!" Bucky sighed.

"Oh great, you actually have feeling. It only took you thirty years."

"Steve."

"What?"

"I slept with her." Bucky stopped walking.

"Yeah, well obviously." Steve gave Bucky a look before continuing his walk.

"No, slept. As in like fall asleep... in the same bed. That's never happened to me before!" He follows steve.

Later You stood alongside Steve waiting for James to get out of school.

"Hey buddy how are you doing?" Steve kneeled down to hug his kid.

"Hello." He said softly.

"This is my friend (Y/N)." He smiled.

You smiled softly.

"I thought uncle James was your only friend." He said.

"Who's uncle James?" You asked furrowing your brows.

"Yes." Steve's eye's widened and he laughed nervously. "Um, he's right. He is my only friend. From work..."

Bucky watched nervously from the surveillance room.

"But this is my new friend (Y/N)."

"Hi." You smiled.

"Hi." He grinned and gave Steve a knowing look.

"Hey, What are you two doing this afternoon?" You asked. "Cause I need some help with work and I think you two could be the men for the job." You grinned.

"Oh no." Bucky mumbled.

"Yeah? That sounds great."Steve grinned.

At work you had let James break a toy fire truck, played around with a popcorn machine, manage to soak Steve with a water hose, to which of course he fought back. But ultimately had the best day with them.

Later you went with Steve to drop off James with his mother.

"Bye (Y/N)!" He grinned waving before hugging his dad.

You chuckled and waved back.

Peggy walked out and smiled.

"Hello." Steve smiled.

She grinned and took James inside.

"He just used the kid! He used the kid!" Bucky shook his head. "Unbelievable."

"Maybe we could get you a kid sir, for a day." Hunter suggested.

"You know a guy?" Bucky asked intrigued.

"I know a guy." He nods.

"Ye- nah." He shook his head looking back at the monitors.

Steve pulled up at your house. "I had a really fantastic day today."

"So did I." You smiled.

"Goodnight." You both leaned over and kissed each others cheeks before slowly pulling away but stopping and kissing eachother for real.

Bucky sighed and looked away.

Steve picked you up and carried you inside the house with lips still connected.

"Go inside." Bucky Told Hunter.

"Sir, I don't think you wanna see this- oh my god." Steve continues to kiss you and move you around the whole room as he secretly takes out all of Bucky's bugs and cameras.

"Dammit, go to 5." Bucky groaned just as the feed went out.

"Okay, two two!"

"It's out too sir."

"Dammit!"

"Steve we need to talk." You whispered. "In a little bit..." you mumbled kissing him again.

"This is so bad." You mumbled as Steve stepped on the last camera bug in the room.

"We're dead sir." Hunter said.

"Yeah, we are." He sighed.

"At least we have audio ." Hunter said.

Bucky gave him a look.

You and Steve sat on the couch kissing but you pulled away. "Okay, Steve, I'm sorry. I'm not this kind of girl."

"I know exactly the kind of girl you are." Steve said. "And that's why I've completely fallen in love with you."

"Damn." Hunter sighed. "he used the secret weapon."

Bucky looked away defeated. "turn it off."

PARENTS: i mean, duh, but not that shes in contact with. her mom’s name is arista welvox and she’s from a really rich and important coruscanti family. she was like 45 or so to kiri’s dad’s 24 when they got married and had her. her dad’s name is tama etiscalko and he’s an architect. also DONT ask me how kiris mom could have kids so late...its SPACE bro

Is Mortal Kombat 11’s EVO 2020 Absence Actually Surprising?

With Mortal Kombat 11 being absent from Evo 2020, I was pretty shocked. However, maybe it isn’t as shocking as I initially thought.

Last night, the Evo 2020 game lineup was announced bringing eight modern games and one classic to the biggest fighting game tournament of the year. Just as a reminder, here are the nine games that will be on the big stage:

Street Fighter V: Championship Edition

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Dragon Ball FighterZ

Tekken 7

Soul Calibur 6

GranBlue Fantasy Versus

Samurai Shodown

Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late[cl-r]

Marvel vs. Capcom 2

While there are many games that did not make the cut, there is one standout title that has surprised both the FGC (fighting game community) and the general gaming community. No, it is not Super Smash Bros. Melee. NetherRealm Studios’ 2019 release Mortal Kombat 11 did not make the cut this year for Evo 2020.

Considering how well the game has been doing in terms of sales, critical acclaim, and garnering entries for Evo last year, it seemed like a lock for Evo 2020. But as Evo co-founder Joey Cuellar was revealing the games, with the first four being the shoo-in games for the tournament, it became clear Mortal Kombat 11 wasn’t going to be making the cut. Initially, this was a surprise to me. Mostly because this is the fighting game I’ve followed the most since its release. In my eyes, this community seemed rather active with a presence at every major fighting game tournament. But is Mortal Kombat 11‘s absence really a surprise?

To begin, let’s look at the numbers Mortal Kombat 11 brought in at Evo 2019. Last year, Cuellar posted the final entrant numbers for each game. There were a total of 14,321 entrants split between nine games. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate had the largest pool garnering 3,492 entrants, while BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle had the smallest pool, with 640 entrants. Mortal Kombat 11 had a total of 1,567 entrants, which was roughly 10% of all entrants at Evo 2019.

Assuming bringing in entrants for the event is important for Evo since it makes money from players registering, I do not believe Mortal Kombat 11 was cut because it wasn’t bringing in enough people to the actual event. If that were the case, Soul Calibur VI would have been cut as it only brought in 742 players. Outside of Evo, Mortal Kombat 11 has brought in plenty of entrants to the events that showcase it. It had the second-largest pool with 531 entrants at CEO 2019 and the larget pool at Combo Breaker with 758 entrants.

Since it seems like Mortal Kombat 11 was bringing in people physically to the venue, maybe it wasn’t bringing in enough people to its Twitch stream. Using TwitchTracker.com for the metrics, it seems like the NRS fighter did pretty well. It wasn’t the best out of the bunch, but it certainly was not the worst. At Evo 2019, Mortal Kombat 11 had an average of 51,719 viewers with its peak being 74,987 viewers during its slot on August 3, 2019. There were a total of 466k viewers that popped in during the tournament, with the Evo Twitch channel garnering 3.7K followers during its 4.6-hour duration.

Dragon Ball FighterZ was the other big game that day and actually had an earlier slot. It had over 60k viewers on average, with over 96k viewers at its peak during the Sonic Fox and Go1 final. It did have a lower viewership with 222k viewers in total but garnered more followers for the channel. Depending on one what determines “success” either one of the two could be considered good draws for the tournament.

Even though those aren’t bad numbers, Mortal Kombat 11 certainly did not keep up with Sunday’s competition. Tekken 7 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate brought in the most viewers and followers overall. But it did do better (in regards to these stats) than Samurai Shodown, UNIST (Under Night In-Birth) and Soul Calibur IV, all of which are present at Evo 2020. So, it couldn’t be that Mortal Kombat 11 doesn’t draw in an online audience.

I did want to see how well Mortal Kombat 11 has done on Twitch in general since it launched last year. It does take a substantial dip between April 2019 (launch month) and July 2019. Since then it has been pretty steady, albeit lower on viewers. In comparison to another fighter that came out last year, Samurai Shodown seems to be maintaining its popularity among its fanbase while Mortal Kombat 11 has dipped pretty substantially. Those probably aren’t the best comparisons considering how much more popular Mortal Kombat 11 was last year, but there is definitely a dip in interest.

But again, that is just looking at it overall. In a tournament setting, people (like myself) start to get hyped and carve out time to watch their favorite games. That being said, I don’t think Mortal Kombat 11‘s absence is a numbers issue. Clearly, there are less popular games that made it on that list.

When the news broke that Mortal Kombat 11, I started seeing a bit of a pattern in regards to how players were treated at Evo 2019 and how it isn’t really all that surprising that the game isn’t going to be there. A sort of separation between the MK players and the rest of the FGC. Here are a few tweets from some of the top Mortal Kombat players suggesting it’s not just because of numbers.

I got a few ideas about why MK11 didn’t make the lineup this year, but hey it is what it is….the community wasn’t happy with being there in the first place & tons said we got treated like shit there, so why y’all acting so surprised now? We got what we wanted lol.

Also can we please stop with blaming the game on the timeline.

Most entrants ever at CB-CEO-EVO for an NRS game. Non pro tour events have been getting 100+ entrants where as other nrs games would get like 30-40. MK11 isn’t my favorite NRS game but it’s clearly politics.

All of these tweets refer to some sort of politics behind the scenes. They also touch on how the Mortal Kombat 11 community was treated while at Evo. None of them really explicitly say how they were mistreated or what sort of politics would be behind the game’s absence at Evo 2020, but it doesn’t come as a big surprise to these players.

Neither NRS or Evo have not yet commented on why Mortal Kombat 11 is being left out this year. And I’m not quite sure if they will. NRS has its own plans for esports, which will probably be announced at the Final Kombat event in March. Maybe NRS wants its competition to be more online-focused like Tweedy mentioned. There could even be some sort of dispute between NRS and Evo that we don’t know about.

Regardless, Evo isn’t the only stage fighting games are played on competitively. It is almost certain Mortal Kombat 11 will be present at other events like Combo Breaker and CES, but I would be lying if I said I’m not a bit bewildered. Evestared at the name on her phone’s screen, her finger hovering over the callbutton. Her hand was shaking slightly,despite the fact that she had called this particular number many times beforewith little problem. But this time…thistime was different.

Afterall, she was going to finally ask Espella on a date.

Sure,they had hung out a lot together in the past – they were best friends, after all! Hell, those hangouts were how Eve came to the realization that herfeelings for Espella were not exactly familial or platonic anymore. But they were just hangouts in the end. Therewas nothing more to them, and so therewas no pressure.

Evetook a deep breath. She could handlethis! She was the Great Witch, theleader of the Shades! She was the HighInquisitor of Labyrinthia! Surely shecould handle just asking Espella on adate…right?

Apparentlyher finger decided to act on its own because all of a sudden she heard a faintringing sound coming from her phone. Hersurprise turned into a soft panic and she was more than slightly tempted tohang up before anyone answered, but Espella didn’t give her thatopportunity.

“HiEve,” Espella’s voice greeted, and Eve felt her chest tighten a bit at howexcited and nervous she was to hear that lovely sound. “How are you?”

“I…uh…I’mdoing well, Espella,” Eve stammered, knowing immediately that Espella was goingto catch onto her anxiety if she continued like this. “Actually, I was…wondering something.”

“Yes?”

“Wouldyou…um…are you doing anything tonight? Iwas thinking we could get together,” Eve said. Originally her plan was to actually ask for a date in those words, but she chickenedout, and she cursed herself for doing so.

“Actually,yes, I am! Rogue is having a band ofsome sort play at her tavern and asked if I could stop by for support! I’m sure she’d love to see you too.” Espella sounded excited and happy, but Eve’sstomach dropped. Rogue’s tavern was notunpopular on Friday evenings, and with a band coming in…there was bound to beeven more people around than usual. Notexactly the crowd that Eve did so well in.

“Iwas…”

“Ihope you don’t think I’m pressuring you, Eve! I know how you are with crowds,” Espella said. “I just thought that-”

“No! I’d love to go, Espella. Should I…come get you?”

“Well,Rogue asked if I could help set up, so I’m going to be there early, and I knowyou still need to work, so-”

“Oh,okay then, I’ll…meet you there,” Eve said; as much as she wanted to take Espella out, she did need to stay in the office, and adate was not exactly an acceptable excuse for having to leave early.

“Great! Can’t wait to see you!”

Evesaid goodbye and hung up, wishing that conversation had turned outdifferently. Her and Espella in acrowded group of people was not thenight she had originally planned out in her head.

Shespent much of her day nervously bouncing her leg up and down while she wassitting, or pacing while she was standing. Some people asked her if she was feeling alright, and she just respondedthat she was fine and went about her business. Thinking about everyone’s eyes on her and on Espella…all that chattersurrounding them and muffling their conversation…

Laterthat evening, she willed her legs to travel her to Rogue’s tavern. The band wasn’t playing just yet, but they had set up, and there were already adecent amount of people sitting inside. Eve could make out the blonde hair of Espella, who was speaking with oneof the band members. She was always soeasygoing with everyone…how did she do that? In a way, it was a magic that Eve still could not entirely figureout.

Except…perhapsshe did still have some magic of herown.

Ratherthan go inside, she rushed back home…for the time being.

Espellasat at a table near the door as she listened to the band and watched as peoplehappily found partners to dance with. Drink and food were aplenty, and practically everyone seemed to behaving a good time. Even Mr. Barnhamshowed up, though after having some light conversation with Espella, he spentmost of his time at the bar speaking with Rogue.

Onceagain, Espella looked at her phone to see the time and to see if Eve hadcontacted her. It was past eight…shouldn’tshe have been here by now? Maybe shebecame too anxious and decided not to come…but then why wouldn’t she answerEspella’s calls?

Didsomething happen to her, maybe?

Espellawas about to get up and leave when the door dramatically flew open. It almost seemed as though a gust of windtraveled in with the newcomer…

TheGreat Witch.

Thecrowd and even the band stopped and turned as the Witch spoke, her hand pointedin Espella’s direction. Of course theyall knew who it was, but it was unusual to see her in this sort of setting,which she usually avoided.

“…Heedmy words…” The Witch’s voice was notoverly loud, but seemed to travel. “…Thosewho listen to the sounds of these instruments…will find themselves unable toplacate their bodies’ need to move…”

Despitethe words sounding like a threat,Espella knew Eve and the Great Witch well enough to decipher what she wassaying. She stood up, smiling playfullyas she approached the masked woman. “Noteven by dancing?”

“…No,not even then…” The Great Witch seemed –as always – imposing and intimidating, but under that giant mask and hat, Evefelt uncomfortably warm and embarrassed. “…Though perhaps…there is a way…”

“How? How can we break such a spell?” Only Espella would truly play along with herlike this.

“…Withthe right…partner…perhaps…”

Espellaheld out her hand.

“Willyou be my partner, then?”

TheWitch’s gauntlet hovered over Espella’s hand, but Eve made the mistake oflooking past Espella…

Alleyes were on them. They werecenter-stage, and everyone was staring. Some even whispering.

TheWitch pulled her hand back slowly, earning a confused look from Espella.

“…No…toomany eyes…too many voices…” Eve felt herthroat beginning to close up. “…I mustdepart…”

Quickly,Eve spun on her heels and retreated back outside through the door, holding herdress up a bit as she tried to put more distance between her and thetavern.

“Wait! Eve!”

No,she couldn’t face Espella right now. What was she thinking, comingto the tavern as the Great Witch and asking for a dance like that? And in front of practically the whole town? Everyone was going to be talking about thisfor weeks…how humiliating…

Shefelt someone grab her wrist; Espella had caught up to her.

“…Youdare try to stop m-”

“Eve,it’s just me now! You can be yourself!” Espella was panting softly, and her hair hadgotten slightly messy from her sprinting, but she was smiling and Eve found italmost difficult to look at her loveliness while already feeling so embarrassed.

“…I…”

Sheturned her face away and bit down on her lip. But Espella bent her knees and moved in Eve’s line of sight.

“Iwould much rather dance under the stars with Eve than the Great Witch.”

Evestared at her for a moment before nodding. Before she could move her hands up to remove her hat and mask, however,Espella was doing it for her – Eve had to hold her breath as Espella unveiledher purple hair and eyes.

Withoutthe mask distorting her vision, Eve felt even more breathless when she gazed onEspella’s face, smiling warmly in the dim lights of the streetlamps and themoon.

“That’sbetter,” she said. Espella then removedEve’s gauntlets slowly, before taking her hands and maneuvering their bodies sothey were in a dancing position. DespiteEve’s hand being around Espella’s waist, Espella took the lead, beginning toslowly move her feet and sway as she hummed a soft tune that Eve recognizedfrom their shared childhood. It relaxedher only a little bit…after all, she andEspella were extremely close, and Eve couldn’t help but wonder if her heart wasbeating so loudly that Espella would be able to hear it.

“Whyare you so nervous? Right now, I mean,”Espella eventually asked, staring into Eve’s eyes as if she was the only personin this world that mattered. “On thephone before, too, you seemed nervous. Why?”

Eveswallowed – by the way Espella was looking at her, Eve could tell that Espellawas not asking because she had no idea. No, that was a – dare she say – hopeful look. As if she was silently asking Eve to make amove…

Withher hands visibly trembling, Eve stopped their dance so she could bring them toEspella’s face. She cupped her cheeksand took in a shaky breath before leaning in and closing the gap between theirmouths. Although the initial feeling ofEspella’s lips on hers was wonderful,it did little to relax Eve, who had – if anything – tensed up once they madecontact. But Espella – always knowingwhat to do – brought her hands over Eve’s shoulders to pull her in tighter,even deepening the kiss as if she had also been aching for this for some time.

And –as if Espella herself had some sort of magic touch – Eve found herself calmingdown. She allowed her nervousness andher embarrassment to give way to just happiness,even smiling as she refused to break apart from the woman that she had sodeeply fallen in love with.

Whenthey finally broke from each other, they remained in an embrace, laughingsoftly as they each processed what had just happened.

“Howdo you always know what to do, Espella?”

“Ididn’t really…I was hoping you would. And…you did.”

Evefelt her face warm up as Espella once again closed any distance between themand began to gently sway.

Aftermath (wip)

//This is gonna be a long one (because im like halfway through writing it i think? If even that?), and i was gonna hold off and keep it as a total surprise, but my brain literally wont shut off unless i share every last fucking writing apparently, so take this as it is, and ill post the completed and edited one later today probably, with a real summary :P

TWs: character death, grieving, mourning, suicidal thoughts, mentions of Lucky and Cam (disappearing), survivor’s guilt, general guilt. So much guilt.

Renee couldn't handle sleeping in the same room Sam had been in not 4 days ago. She had spent a lot of time with Eli and Sofia and Kat, trying to ignore the emptiness in her head. Sam was the more dominant of the two of them, and now with her gone, Ren didnt know what to do with herself; for being the more confident of the two, she didnt have the will to do much of anything.

By the fourth day though, she figured she couldnt sit and cry on Sofia's couch, finally dragging her ass back to her own cabin. She slowly looked around, remembering every blanket fort and hug that Sam had made and shared, every movie they had watched, and every bowl of popcorn she had eaten. The room felt.. empty now. Grey and dull and lifeless. Or maybe it was Ren feeling that way..? She couldn't tell the difference anymore.

She slowly idled around the room, eventually ending up in her room. She picked up Sam's teddy bear, her favorite that had gotten her through so many bad days. Ren hugged it tight, feeling almost as if she was hugging Sam. She found herself crying again, her knees giving out as a sob broke through her pursed lips. She clutched the bear -- Peter? -- to her chest, biting his ear to muffle herself.

She didnt know when exactly she had fallen asleep, but Ren found herself opening her eyes groggily, pushing herself up from the floor. As she stood, she saw the bag Sam had brought with them originally sitting next to the wardrobe, almost completely empty, save a sketchbook and a small fox plushie with a ribbon and a handmade tag that read "Auburn". Reading Sam's handwriting caused her to tear up further, so she set aside the small fox and grabbed the sketchbook.

She flipped through, seeing so many sketches, through various states of completion, the last two causing her breath to catch. On the left of the page was a half finished sketch of Sam holding her hand up to a mirror, her reflection clearly being Renee, smiling back so happily. She lifted a hand to her mouth, trying to hold back a dry sob, lowering her fingertips to the page after a moment. The right page was a half finished Renee in a dress, holding a blue rose, with a roughly-sketched Genesis in a beautiful black dress, almost holding Ren's hand. Across the top in Sam's best cursive was the phrase "For Good."

Ren found herself tearing up once again, the song immediately playing in her head. She couldnt remember all of the words, but the parts she could hear were distinctly in Sam's voice, "So now its up to you, for both of us.. i know im who i am today, because i knew you.. i do believe i have been changed for the better, and because i knew you, i have been changed for good..." Ren sobbed as the words repeated and replayed, what she thought Gen sounding like filling in some of the other half, "just to clear the air, i ask forgiveness, for the things ive done you blame me for.. whatever way our stories end, i know you have rewritten mine, by being my friend..."

She couldn’t hold back the tears, quickly setting the book aside so she didnt fuck with the pages further, bringing her hands up to her face so she didnt have to see anything but the darkness.

Finally, Ren had packed up her bag fully. She didnt know where she was going, but she knew she couldnt stay in the cabin anymore; there were so many memories everywhere here, and she couldnt stop replaying all of them. She left Auburn and Peter on the bed, with a short note saying that Eli and Jackie could have them respectively, before leaving out the front door. She considered just walking off the property until she collapsed somewhere, but decided that was a horrible train of thought that she didnt wanna follow, so instead she headed towards the road, caught between borrowing someone else's car and calling a ride.

Ren nodded to his question, glancing down at the bag that was still clutched in her too-tight grip. This was a mistake. She shouldnt-- she couldnt leave all of this behind. This was.. well, she was happy here. Everyone she cared about was here, well.. almost everyone..

She lifts a shaky hand to run through her hair, habitually sticking her thumbnail in her mouth and gnawing at it afterwards.

"'m fine, but Renren..." Eli trailed off, and Ren felt a pang hit her chest; the first emotion to break her numbness, and it was guilt, how fitting.. These two shouldnt have to walk on eggshells, its not like she was a ticking time bomb..

But as she looked down at her white knuckles, as she chewed her nail down to the pink, as she remembered the voice telling her to join Sam and Cam and Lucky, she wasnt so sure of that anymore.

"Renren, stop," Eli pulled her hand from her mouth, and only then did she notice she had bitten down hard enough to draw blood. Her eyes followed Eli's hand back up to his face, tracing over every worried and distressed and upset mark, and she wished for nothing more than to hold him until they all faded.

Logically, she knew it wouldnt work like that, but she couldnt help but drop her bag and pull him into a hug anyway. It was the first one she had initiated and the first she had reciprocated, and that realization made her heart pang again. Eli was suffering and mourning just as much, and now it was like he lost both sisters.. She squeezed him a little, resting a hand on the back of his head.

Eli hugged her back quickly, his arms around her waist. She could feel the fabric of her shirt becoming damp near his face, but she didnt mind. It was just a shirt, and he was so much more important. She gently brushed through his hair with one hand, the other releasing him and holding a welcoming hand out to Jinx.

He stepped closer, his body tense, but he joined the hug anyway, one hand resting on Eli's shoulder and the other on Ren's back. She rested her hand on his back, just below his shoulder so he could easily duck out when he got uncomfortable.

Her legs were shaking by the time they all finally parted, Eli softly sniffling and Jinx looking a little awkward. Ren rubbed her arm, her hand feeling oddly empty without the bag, her arms feeling oddly empty without them, but her heart feeling a little more full. She pointed up to the house, waiting for both boys to acknowledge the gesture before she picked up her bag and stepped forward, wanting one of them to lead the way. In truth, she didnt want to be alone, and didnt know how to confidently lead anymore, even if it was just inside a big fucking house. She didnt know how to hold herself anymore, and her legs felt like weak cement, both too unstable but too heavy to move.

Eli grabbed Ren's hand, wrapping it round his shoulders, Jinx coming around to take her bag, and the three slowly made their way inside. They were so patient and understanding, and they were so strong.. they shouldnt have to be strong, and another guilty pang flashed through Ren's chest.
