it's not just places with 3-digit populations, it's cities too. i lived in the biggest city in montana and the buses did not run after 5pm. so if you had a normal 8-5 job you certainly couldn't take them to and from work because commuting happens outside of work hours, not during. and forget about having any kind of transit-based social life, much less the ability to run errands via bus! it was walk or nothing. i walked where i could, including in the snow, but mostly i just stayed the fuck home.

Nobody talks about how damaging being a reader AND a writer is. Like I can't read a book normally without either: a) mentally criticizing every poorly constructed sentence and analyzing it or b) comparing an EDITED AND PROFESSIONALLY PROOFREAD piece of published work to my MEANT-TO-BE-BAD-FIRST DRAFT and proceeding to gaslight myself into thinking I'm shit and being thrust into a week-long writing hiatus.
