I'm really digging the stylistic choices for the Ranma 1/2 remake. They're very cute and dynamic which contributes a whole lot to the action and comedy of the story.

Watched the MLB movie and I just. I WANT to gush about it but the fact that Marinette’s regular voice actor and her singing voice actor sound SO different just took me out of it every time and left me feeling very disengaged;; At least Adrien’s singing voice kind of sounds like his speaking voice (and Gabriel’s is 👌 bc my king Keith Silverstein can actually sing and he can sing REALLY fucking well) but Marinette’s. The voices are COMPLETELY different and it threw me off every single time. Like obviously her singing voice is really good and I understand why they picked that person to do her songs but bro you could have at least TRIED to get someone that sounds similar to Cristina Vee. It drove me nuts every time she sang bc I was like “That is CLEARLY a different person entirely!!”
I’m realizing this might have been a dubbing issue but still 😭 I feel like I would have enjoyed the movie way more if it didn’t look like Marinette was lip syncing the entire time bc there was such a huge disconnect between her speaking and singing voice

december in movies [24/31]: the man who invented christmas (2017) dir. bharat nalluri "It is a Christmas book because Christmas is, or ought to be, the one time of year when men and women open their shut-up hearts and think of people below them as if they really were fellow passengers to the grave and not another race of creatures altogether."

I’m not saying I’ve never done it before, but the “pssshhhhttt that’s not very realistic” arguments in entertainment are so annoying.
No crap. I don’t want to watch a movie about you waking up and scratching your butt and going to sit in your cubicle and coming home and watching The Office reruns while you eat Mexican takeout.
I want stories that are funny, insane, grand. Compelling. It doesn’t have to be “realistic” it just has to make you believe by its own magic. That’s what I want. There’s a reason the oldest stories that have survived time are epics

Finally finished Goodbye My Princess and I was not expecting a happy ending—this show famously does not have a happy ending, and I knew it going in—but the ending still gutted me like a fish and had me openly weeping. (Normally when I say a piece of media made me cry, I mean, “I actually teared up a little”. Not this time! Full on ugly sobbing! A lingering sense of devastation even a couple of hours later!)
I assumed at first it was going to end on that shot of Li Chengyin’s face when Xiaofeng’s brother carries her lifeless body away, which would honestly have been bad enough. But somehow, what really pushed it over the edge for me was the coda, where LCY has, decades later, voluntarily abdicated to make way for his successor. It’s clearly the end of a lengthy tenure as emperor, and maybe even a good one, since they make a point of mentioning that it’s the first peaceful transfer of power in generations (a marked difference from the bloody succession struggle Chengyin and his brothers endured) and Pei Zhao is notably still hanging around.
But LCY is still pining for his lost Xiaofeng, and has either recent,y developed the delusion that she’s not dead, or has been clinging to that delusion ever since he watched her slit her throat in front of him and then die in his arms (straight up I do not know which is worse), and is now going to spend what remains of his life wandering in the desert searching for a woman who is forever lost to him. What was it all for, LCY? Was it worth it? (Maybe it was! I think it’s implied he was actually a decent emperor and he’s leaving the place in better condition than he found it.) But worth it or not, he’s never gotten over the price he paid for all this, never known true contentment, never stopped searching and waiting and longing for Xiaofeng in his heart. Oh my god.

the real dark urge is the desire to replay this expansive endlessly variable rp-rich experience with the exact same character and LI and decisions except they’re a durge now. the other real dark urge is to make my durge a gnome

Do you have a dream/nightmare that you often see?
Being chased by something, often it's zombies (which is why I stopped watching anything zombie related) but it can be just something and I don't know what, I just know that I have to run and hid.
I have also recurring nightmares of trying to consolidate my house to prepare for the attack of something. Every time my number one priority is to find and keep my cat safe.
I tried to look up dream signification years ago, apparently i feel guilt about something and running away from my guilt? Not sure how reliable that is though.

Jumping on the ask train, with an in-between question! From the medias you've watched so far, which one do you believe to be severely underrated, and/or deserving of much more attention/love? (Not necessarily something hated by the public, more like a piece of media that's completely ignored/ghosted for a reason or another)
I've already gushed about it in the past but- a little treasure of a piece of media I've discovered last year is the truly wonderful Excavation of Hob's Barrow, a horror themed classic point & click game. It's recent but perfectly mimicks the artistry of old LucasArts games and its atmosphere is incredible. Its genius is the setting - old england folk tales, the rainy moors, a backwater village wherein you're very much made to feel like the outsider that you are - the horror is slow, all-encompassing, it grows in intensity; and yet at the same time you learn to know this village and its people and feel a little less lost. You learn to know the land. And to respect its legends.
This game is very much underrated and I dearly wish more people would get to hear of it and give it a try.
I suppose it's held down by the fact it's horror AND classic point & click vibes, which are two factors that do not necessarily overlap in the average person's tastes. Personally it was right up my alley, and it's a huge favourite of mine from last year (and maybe beyond).
