Recently had a blast in London with some lovely Strikophiles. Took lots of pictures and thought I would share here the ones where I can remember why I took them. 😂 I will add book quotes as time permits. Please correct me if you think I am wrong because it was a full day.

The Red Lion, Duke of York Street

This is the pub where Strike asks Robin to meet him after he's seen Jasper Chiswell and accepted his case. Robin gets showered in orange juice as Sarah Shadlock looks on.

"If he had stuck out in his suit at the White House in East Ham, be was perfectly dressed for Mayfair, and two minutes later he entered the Red Lion in Duke of of York Street, a snug Victorian pub whose brass fittings and etched glass reminded him of the Tottenham." Lethal White, Chapter 10

as a native chinese, i feel like some of yall are taking the gods in lego monkie kid a bit too seriously. i understand why it feels iffy to ship / make silly content of deities that people worship irl (eg. nezha, sun wukong) but it’s a phenomenon on chinese social media too. c-netizens ship the fictionalized versions of these gods, which the gods of lego monkie kid are. they aren’t the actual gods people worship; they’re slightly tweaked versions of the book characters, just like any other chinese adaptation or retelling of jttw (and such stories like fsyy) also, no, nezha isn’t a child, in lmk or jttw or sometimes irl. just because he’s often depicted in child form doesn’t make him an immortal child. eros / cupid is often depicted as a winged baby, and he has a wife and kids. it’s basically the same thing here. nothing in lmk suggests that nezha is a child (his voice, his appearance, his personality etc. all imply he is an adult), and while he’s described as youthful in jttw, he’s already 1700+ years old by then and gods can shapeshift. people only think he’s an immortal baby because that’s a popular depiction of him, since one of his prominent myths is set during his childhood. but as long as you’re talking about the god nezha (fictionalized or the religious figure) and not the human child nezha, then that’s an adult [edit: the last sentence couldve been worded better. i would summarize it as “immortal youth nezha is a valid depiction and is popularized by mythology, but adult god nezha exists too and they are NOT mutually exclusive”]

The Criterion Bar

The site where we meet our narrator, John Watson, and where John runs into Stamford leading to his meeting with Sherlock Holmes, The Criterion Restaurant and Bar has been around since 1873. It was conceived as a restaurant with ancillary rooms for events. The original building has a theater in the basement, a long bar on the ground floor, dining on the 1st and 2nd floors, and a ballroom on the third floor.

The restaurant and bar has been a favorite among the rich, famous, the everyday populous, and the literary stop for many characters over the years. It's an opulent place and quite deserved of it's reputation as a place of fine food and even finer wines.

Currently, it has been reimagined as the fourth restaurant in a series of mid-market fine dining Indian food establishments serving delicious, reasonably priced, authentic Indian food.

Below are some images of The Criterion over the years down to the current interior and what we can imagine it was like inside when John ran into 'Stamo'.

Also here's the travel time from 221B Baker Street to Masala Zone (The Criterion Restaurant and Bar).

And the plaque commemorating John's meeting with Stamford that hung over one of the tables (I believe it has been removed since the current owners took over.)

That young werebear strength is put to use; rearranging tables, chairs, and even carrying shipments across town for the bar.
