Marble statue depicting the religious encounter of Saint Teresa, displayed at the Santa Maria della Vittoria, Rome. Upon the creation of this famous baroque statue, there was an argument between Bernini and the church, where the church insisted it was too sexual of an image of the saint, but Bernini countered with insisting that sexual ecstasy was the closest the everyday man could get to godliness.

One of my favorite bits of Rome, a small plaza with a fantastic sculpture and bordered by the Pantheon (upper right) and Rome's only true gothic church Santa Maria sopra Minerva from the steps of which the photo was taken. The piazza was even more attractive, even though it was a coldish January day, with busking by an accomplished string bass player. [A step-nephew is a professional string bass player, so I am always on the listen for that rather cumbersome instrument being well-played].
