It…. It did take too long for his narrator to notice he was not by his side. And even longer for the narrator to realize he wasn’t in the Parable. One wonders if he even noticed this other Narrator ruining his perfect story, he was so busy trying to get more acclaim with its sequel.

He chose distant and cold parasocial love over real human love. For that, the Narrator pities him, but thinks he should live with the consequences. For all anyone knows—maybe he’s just fine.

(He’s not. But it take way too long for him to realize that.)

Stanley x Bucket. The Bucket is untrustworthy and hasn't really done much for Stanley. Stanley is settling in that ship and there is absolutely no chemistry whatsoever.

Stanley, having gotten special permission from the Author to visit the Story in light of April Fool's Day, comes strutting straight over to An while dressed like Rocky from Rocky Horror Picture Show.

He is very proud of this get-up, although Cyrus is somewhere in the office stammering and refusing to come out of hiding.

"Howdy, ladies. Someone here order a stripper?" he smirks, striking a pose.

Obviously there isn't much left to strip.

Stanley is neither scrawny or exceedingly fit. He's decently built but does have a little bit of a stomach and not a lot of obvious muscle. And while An is towering over him, he doesn't appear to be the least bit intimidated or shy.

Doomsday remains as a puddle on the floor, while up in the control booth Thisday begins laughing his ass off.

Anastasia was watching the puddle on the floor and giggling to herself when Stanley shows up dressed like Rocky. Well…perhaps dressed isn't the right word.

Her eyes light up and she barely supresses another fit of laughter as she straightens up and studies him. She admits he's attractive - especially because he's so confident about himself. She admires his body for a moment, eyes lingering on his stomach, before she smirks.

"Well, I was going to give our dear Doomy a lap dance but she seems a little preoccupied right now." An points to the floor and laughs. She's delighted that she was able to fluster her so much she literally melted.

"Do you think she'll reform if we both give her a little show? I can also strip." The last part is directed downwards with a cheeky wink.

"Ezra!!" Curley beams from ear to ear, and his excitement he also signs his friend's name.

"He is the first person I told and he immediately called me Stanley. He even came with me to the principal's office later that day to let the teachers know about my name and pronoun change."

Doomsday sighs and sags and looks utterly crestfallen for a moment. She genuinely wants to scare the shit out of somebody but it doesn’t seem to be in the cards. Everybody in these offices is attracted to scary things.

Suppose that explains why everyone likes being stabbed.

“Alas,” she sighs, “I tried my best, but I guess being a spook just wasn’t meant to be for me. Maybe I should start trying to give everyone the Care Bear Stare instead - that’ll probably be more terrifying around here, eh?”

It takes a moment for the rest of what An said to catch up to her and when it does she’s a bit more sheepish than put out. Being dead and therefore having no blood means she cannot blush - so in lieu of that her eyes glow a bit brighter.

“Well- I mean, of course you can trust me, I’d never lead you into flames, you’re still alive and all, ahaha. The moon thing, well, I have no idea what that could mean, unless it means I’m full of it.”

Doom thinks for a moment about telling An that doesn’t dream anymore - she can’t, because she literally cannot sleep. The only kind of dreaming she can do is daydream, and a lot of times that does involve fire too - including setting them with friends.

What she does say is, “So, ah, guess that means I’m the ghoul of your dreams, eh? Ehehehehehe.”

"Sorry, Doomy." Anastasia leans over and pats her on the shoulder. "I mean, I won't deny part of it is because I'm a Spencer and we love scary shit. But also, I've seen the worst the world has to offer, experienced it too. And I've been to Hell! Literal, actual Hell! Lilith is quite nice, maybe I should introduce you two sometime. I think she'd like your fiery passion, heh. Point is, I'm sure you can scare the living daylights out of someone else, but not me~"

She notices the bright glow in Doomsday's eyes and makes a note about it, a bit of smugness seeping into her smile. She loves flustering Doom, something about causing the bold, self assured ghost to blush (or the equivalent of it) is so satisfying. Plus she simply enjoys flustering people with compliments, it's fun, and it makes them feel good about themselves.

Speaking of...

"Oh hell yes. You're definitely the ghoul of my dreams." Anastasia pounces on the opportunity. "You like puns, you like fucking things up, you can appreciate some really shitty humor - emphasis on the shit haha - and you're an honest, genuine person. Something that's always a plus in my book. Besides..."

She bats her eyelids at her innocently.

"You're hella cute. Just adorable. So pleasing on the eyes. Did I mention how much I love seeing them glow brighter? They're just so fascinating, like everything else about you. Yeah, you're the real deal, Doomy. Funny, cute, witty, entertaining...oh, I'm glad I decided to check out the toilets of the 7/11 that fateful day..."

thank you @willtheweaver for the tag!! the rule is to share some inspirations for the name/personality/design of a character! (originally it said to do more than 1, but i wanted to give all the attention to one new character)

i'll share some stuff about sunny from my new wip, school rules!

i didn’t take sunny’s name from any etymological concept, in fact it originally was planned to be a pseudonym since i didn’t want to come up with a surname haha (she has one now, it’s sunny finch). to get her name, i considered the name at face value, if that makes sense. a sunny day brings forth the image of happiness, brightness, and is generally a good thing.

but the sunny of school rules is anything but unassumingly bright and happy. while she is fairly cheerful and playful, the topics she discusses are violent and dark, and her casual (borderline aloof) demeanour towards those topics subvert the image that the word/name ‘sunny’ evokes.

her personality is similar to this idea. sunny is upbeat, she cracks jokes, and is hopelessly obsessed with famous nepo baby darcy spencer. i wanted to have fun designing her character, because so many of my other mcs from other wips are in dreary situations and react accordingly. i wanted a change of pace, so i wrote a character in an undeniably horrible situation, left to broadcast all the competition and suffering in her school for profit, but she’s able to have fun regardless.

i want her to have a kind of humour similar to mine to contrast the macabre setting and genre she’s in. i guess in that way she’s mostly inspired by me, with some tonal inspirations from characters like cecil palmer from wtnv (his vibes), the narrator from the stanley parable (his humour/delivery), and alastor from hazbin hotel (his sass).

since i don’t really describe character’s appearances (not intentionally, just a habit), and that wouldn’t fit in the first-person radio narration, sunny doesn’t have a concrete character design. i can’t describe exactly how i visualise her, but i picture her with dark hair and brown eyes, and kind of improper in presentation; think wearing the fancy, high society uniform incorrectly, awful posture, ‘hasn’t slept in three days but still energetic as ever’ energy, that kind of thing (@millipede333 i think you’d do a good job drawing her!).

For Spencer, hmm. Before the Brigade, it would've been behind the bar he worked at. He knew where everything was, knew what was expected of him, knew his place. It was routine. It was familiarity, in that it was completely unfamiliar to anything he'd known before, but he'd made it familiar. Post RAWTS, it becomes anywhere Gidget is comfortable, or anywhere Gidget is. That's his boy!

Spencer: "I'm not totally useless. I can be used as a bad example." I'M KIDDING I'M KIDDING. "Great, I'd like your $8-est bottle of wine, please."

Nancy: "The English language cannot fully capture the depth and complexity of my thoughts, so I'm incorporating emojis into my speech to better express myself. Winky face."

What would be one item that they would hate to lose most?

Oh this is a tough one. Cop out answer for Spence is Gidget- that's his BOY, if anything happened to him he'd kill everyone in the room and then himself. Second cop out is Percy, his dog, but. As for non-living things he'd hate to lose, I'd have to say… really anything Gidj gives him. Fuck. Another cop out. Okay well Nick's started making friendship bracelets for the Brigade and Spencer absolutely wears his until it wears right off. When that happens, he's devastated.

As for Nancy, well. He's kind of grown attached to that stupid scarf, he managed to hold onto it after leaving his Parable and throughout RTAOS and after. He almost lost it a couple times on his backpacking trip with Oliver- I can see it maybe getting stolen at one of the hostels, and he refused to leave until he tracked down the fucker that stole it and stole it back (that was a close one- the person was minutes away from leaving the country). Despite his whole (gestures) everything, Nance doesn't feel all that materialistic to me? At least not for like. Idk. Things.

If he ever lost his collar he'd go fucking bonkers distraught. Good thing that thing's locked on tight lmao

Spender was made by @birdybirdnerd so some of this is from them eheh. The oldest Stanley so far (even older than Stan in his late thirties, this fella's in his early forties) he had tried to cope from escaping the parable with alcoholism--BUT he managed to kick the issue before it got too bad, before he found the fellas.

he tries to be a kind of paternal figure for them before Stan finally finds them all, and when he does Spencer pretty immediately goes "thank god" and pulls back to an uncle friend. listen, it's really exhausting trying to keep these boys from developing bad coping habits, most of them are in their 20s. he has his own shit to sort.

he's unambiguously gay I think. he's kinda a bear. not like, full bear, but god damn. solidly mlm and exhausted because he doesn't have great taste and he knows it.

So, I'm going to aim to get the ball rolling, let's say October 14th. I'll start with Men's Round 1, then the following week do Women's Round 1, and so on. I will post the actual brackets a bit closer to that date.

Inherit the Wind is a 1960 American film based on the 1955 play of the same name written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee. The film was directed by Stanley Kramer. It stars Spencer Tracy as lawyer Henry Drummond and Fredric March as his friend and rival Matthew Harrison Brady.

It also features Gene Kelly, Dick York, Harry Morgan, Donna Anderson, Claude Akins, Noah Beery Jr., Florence Eldridge, and Jimmy Boyd.

The script was adapted by Nedrick Young (originally as Nathan E. Douglas) and Harold Jacob Smith. Stanley Kramer was commended for bringing in writer Nedrick Young, as the latter was blacklisted and forced to use the pseudonym Nathan E. Douglas.

Inherit the Wind is a parable that fictionalizes the 1925 Scopes "Monkey" Trial as a means to discuss McCarthyism. Written in response to the chilling effect of the McCarthy era investigations on intellectual discourse, the film (like the play) is critical of creationism.

Gidget peeks out from under the table. A small crowd has formed in front of the escape pod as everyone clambers out of the Parable. He stumbles over, barely upright and carried by momentum. 

“Where-“ his desperate voice cuts out and he clears his throat. “Where’s Spencer?”

Suddenly the ceiling and the walls and the floor are much more interesting, because everyone turns their gaze away from him as soon as they hear the words. His heart stutters. 

“Uncle Stan? Where’s Spencer?” 

The man in question makes a horrible face that makes his stomach churn. Sympathy? Discomfort? Regret? All three? Gidget doesn’t see the expression on him often enough to know. It kind of scares him. 

“Uncle Stan?” He asks again, softer. Why won’t anyone tell him what happened? Can’t they just get it over with and spit it out? If he’s in trouble, they can go back for him, he just wants to apologize for-

“I’m sorry,” Stan finally murmurs. 

What? He does a double-take. Sorry for what? That he’s not here right now? Well, that’s okay, he can wait a little while. Spencer’s gotta come back eventually. It’s not safe in the Parable, so he has to. He can’t possibly be gone gone, right? 

Could he?

Is he?

Stan’s expression worsens when the realization finally clicks. 

“Gone?” He barely whispers. He barely sees the nod before Stanford sweeps him into a smothering hug that he clings to. 

Spencer is gone. 

It’s his fault, isn’t it? Gidget was the one who held him back, distracted him from the group. He didn’t even get to apologize. He barely got the chance to say goodbye. 

He’s never going to see Spencer again. 

“I want my Bubba,” he begs into Stanford’s shirt, feeling wholly undeserving. “Want my Bubba, please, please.”

A few broken sobs spill out, but he’s still in too much shock to properly cry. 

Another pair of arms wraps around him. “Want my Bubba!” He feels the strain in his throat from the desperate cry and he cringes a little. Somebody starts shushing him gently and it only makes him cry harder at the reminder. Spencer always did that for him when he cried, a reminder that he was there. But Spencer’s not here anymore. 

When he’s pulled away from Stanford, his head is pounding and everything is dark. There’s pressure under and behind his eyes and he can’t breathe through his nose, leaving him to take ragged breaths through his dehydrated mouth. 

“Want my Bubba.” The phrase is much more slurred and painful. 

[We hear you, sweetheart. You’re hurting yourself.] His hands are pulled along to read the signs. [Spencer’s not here right now.]

It feels like the world comes crashing down on him and he wails loudly. He misses his Bubba so, so much. Where is Bubba? Does Bubba not love Gidget anymore? Did he do something to deserve this? 

Something uncomfortably cold is pressed to his ear right as he begins to gag. He fumbles with the bin that appears in his lap. 

“Gidget, it’s me. Hi, baby. You’re okay, I’m okay.”

He can’t even force anything out in response besides ragged whining through the loss of his stomach contents. He’s so disoriented and dizzy��was he dreaming earlier? Is this real? Is he still dreaming? 

“Shhh, don’t strain yourself. Bubba’s not going anywhere. Stanford and his Narrator are gonna take care of you right now, alright?”

“Want Bubba,” he finally croaks out. He feels like he’s gonna faint, his hands and feet are getting tingly. The bin is taken from him and his face is wiped with a damp cloth. It makes him shiver and sweat at the same time. 

“I know, baby, I wanna be with you too. Bubba’s sorry.”

“Lay down, dear,” a Narrator whispers to him. A pillow is pressed to his head and he’s guided onto his back. Where did Stanford go, wasn’t he holding him up? 

He shakes the distraction off. “No!” He protests, sounding much quieter than he was hoping. “No sorry! Sorry!” He breaks into a coughing fit that feels just as awful as it sounds. His throat feels torn up like when he scrapes his knees on the concrete. 

“Shh, shhh,” the sound makes him shiver. “You’re pushing yourself too hard. What do ya mean, baby?”

Gidget sobs from the pain and the reminder. “Sorry, ‘m sorry, Bubba. Was dumb, my fault.” 

“No, baby, no. None of that, no more. Accidents happen and you already said sorry. Don’t think about that right now. Focus on feeling better, alright?”

Gidget can only whimper in response. He’s already run out of tears and exhausted himself. 

“Yeah, just relax. Get some rest, baby. I know you don’t feel good.”

He feels the spout of a water bottle nudge at his cheek so he turns his head to accept it. It feels so good, soothing his raw throat and tastes addicting. It gets pulled away several times while he’s still drinking, which he protests and whines about. 

Spencer just shushes him over the phone. It makes his eyelids feel extra heavy, and he paws at the blankets for something to hold. A warm hand stops him and tucks a familiar stuffed animal into his arm. 

“Fishie,” he mumbles, shaking it lightly to hear the rattle inside. A wobbly smile finally arrives. 

“That’s right, you have all your stuffies. They told me they wanted to go with you so you wouldn’t be lonely.”

Gidget feels himself tear up again. “T’ank you,” he bleats. “Miss you.” 

“I miss you too, baby. Go to sleep now, I’ll see you soon, alright?”

A damp cloth is tied to his forehead with a headband. He curls up on his side, phone tucked under his ear, and listens to Spencer’s voice and shushing until he can’t stay awake any longer.

Ghostday sees An walking by one of the shards in the In Between and decides to go into it to mess with her, just for fun. She likes An, An seems to like scary things (or, at the very least, to not be put off by her pallor, crazy teeth, ghostly hair, and glowing eyes), and she's out looking for a bit of fun to ease her own boredom, and hopefully An's if she is also bored.

As soon as she's through the shard, she ducks into a wall and waits to make sure An didn't spot her before advancing. Once her back is turned, Ghostday slips back out of the wall and changes her get-up to her new favorite - the pinstriped suit, the black one with silver pinstripes, the black hooded cloak with the rabbit ears on top, the big heavy black boots, and her scythe... also black, except for the blade which glows with the silvery blue of her energy's color.

She sets the blade end of the scythe down on the ground with the non-bladed tip side of it actually touching the floor (so the carpet doesn't get torn up), and starts to walk forward, allowing it to drag noisily on the ground.

"Hello, An," she says, deliberately keeping her voice low and mysterious. "I'm afraid your time... is up. Ehehehehe..."

Anastasia is none the wiser when Doomsday sneaks up on her, busy leaning against the wall and checking her makeup. Her right ring finger is missing up to the first knuckle, flesh(?) and bone replaced by lipstick which she is applying right now. At the sound of something dragging up behind her, she stops and quickly puts her things away.

She doesn't immediately recognize Doomsday and so she stands there, eyeing her with interest and a bit of confusion - hell, why is a reaper coming after her now? And since when are there reapers in the Office?

Nevertheless, she plays along. She's not scared of this stranger or their scythe.

"Oh, but I'm so young!" Anastasia puts a hand to her forehead. "I haven't even found my one true love. Please, dear Reaper. How about you reconsider? I can find something much more fun for us to do than you taking my soul."
